I don’t know what’s more offensive, McHenry’s sense of entitlement, his disregard for the very people who are protecting him in a dangerous situation, or his disrespect for those he sends to die in a war he’s not willing to fight himself.

Watch the video. It’s repellent on so many levels, it’s hard to know where to start.

About Firedoglake
Two-bit Congressman.
GOP: No class 24/7
Cowardly little rat.
Phew. That’s bad.
I want to know who that woman to his left is. You know the one who thinks the little pissant chickenhawk is funny.
Alarms went off…”I didn’t know what to do”…
“The gym had been hit” boo, hoo.
Flak jackets and kevlar helmets, out of Blackhawk helicopters, why did he need those if he felt so safe?
This is a guy who doesn’t know when to leave well enough alone. He survived involvement with a gay hustler/murderer scandal. God knows how. I would think he’d want to lay low. Hope this hypocrite gets ousted.
Sorry, you’ll have to tell me how it ends. I had to stop it midway through. Blergh.
“Support them troops! Wear them lapel pins! And git TF outta my way; I want my bourbon and bicycle ’cause I’m bored sittin’ in a palace in the only part of Eyerack where I won’t git my hed blowed off.”
Yep. That’s what our men and women are fighting, dying and being raped to protect: the right of a CongressCritter to live off the taxpayers’ payola, and be so stupid that he not only thinks that way, he says it in public, then brags about it. Apart from Eyerack and a host of debacles, Mr. Bush will be best remembered for plunging the tyranny of low expectations to new depths.
Not worth a red cent if you ask me.
‘and the reason i tell this story — it’s not because of my bravery’
delusional and an asshole.
too bad he wan’t in there.
It’s the how dare you interfere with my prerogatives that galls me. Entitlement doesn’t even begin to describe it. It is evident that he considers himself one of masters of the universe.
This moron would be a perfect vice president when the gop steals the next election…:-0
Are we sure that the security guard was a soldier and not a contractor?
Jane:
Maybe you should point people to Howie’s posts on McHenry. They are very enlightening.
Per one of the Dems running in the primary to unseat McHenry (via Pat Go Bye-Bye), the story about someone dying in the rocket attack isn’t true, either:
Those pesky facts. They keep getting in the way.
I’m betting further investigation into his story will either show embellishment or just bullshit from a wimpy, lame ass, Republican puke of a Represntative. He is puffing out his chest too much for a chickenhawk. He wants to give the impression he was “in” the war. North Carolina must be “so” proud.

The security guard was a contractor from Triple Canopy, not a soldier. They’re not allowed to let anyone in anywhere w/o the proper ID. They are not allowed to recognize faces as proof of entry because those rights can get revoked. That is the main gym and no exception. Besides, hes nothing more than a glorytourist acting like a primadonna. He wasted tax money by going there. He didnt actually do anything other than travel. He’s a nobody in the green zone. Why should a security contractor care?
bom dia, pups
words fail me on this one
Republican. Asshole. They’re not just closely related–they’re virtually isomorphic.
That would matter all that much?
The fetishistic detail he gives that description. “I was THERE, man!”
I guess Mr. Rove was so busy devising ” the historical record” of Bush’s years that he didn’t have time to rearrange those pesky facts in their proper order. The problem with inventing your own reality is that you have to keep doing it day after day. Let’s hope that, with Mr. Rove having taken his finger out of the leaking hole in Mr. Bush’s dike, reality will come pouring in on them.
Sorry, I can’t help myself. I feel compelled to point out that we have a former President that also seems to have a large sense of entitlement. Different circumstances, same personality flaw.
Shouldn’t really, but if you accuse him of belittling a soldier and the guard turns out not to be then you look less honest and it greatly lessens the impact. If the guard is a contractor it’s best attack McHenry with the truth.
I agree, the parallels are getting a bit hard to ignore.
Wasn’t it Patrick McHenry who said, “I’ll take the liberties and you can have the death”?
Seriously, I can understand his plight. It has probably happened to us all to find ourselves in a war zone at 5 o’clock in the morning, no jacuzzi in the room, no masseur on call, and some guy I use for a talking point in my speeches telling me I can’t use the gym. It’s really more than human flesh can bear. I’m sure you agree.
I imagine if it was the main gym that it’s primary purpose is so that our fighting forces can keep in shape for their daily work, and for them to work off steam from the stress of combat. Moving off the equipment or being falsely cheery for some Congressional hack, probably bored out of his gourd, was not an added stress they needed.
More importantly, all the spaces where our team assembles must be primary targets for “disruption”, making tight security procedures necessary and routine. I guess this CongressCritter didn’t know that about Eyerack, either.
Absolutely. And you never argue with a guy who has a gun – soldier or Blackwater. Wonder if he had the courage to call the person that to his face. Bet not.
It does seem worth noting the GZ folks apparent incompetence. A congressman should not have to ask for the proper credentials. But this in no way should skew the telling moment in McHenry speak.. His demeanor always fits this description when he appears on the floor of the US House. After all he had plenty of time to calm down before telling his version of the story. This kind of talk demonstrates exactly what kind of cretin he is at all times.
He’s the bully from the trailer park.
you hippies can write a Letter to the Editor of his hometown newspaper here
mine included the fact 94 “two bit security guards” from North Carolina, including a local kid have sacrificed their lives so this pusillanimous shithead is free to brag about his insults
FWIW, I believe large swaths of the population includes people who have developed a sense of entitlement. Most ALL politicians have this sense that they are owed their position through divine right. It also includes long time professional athletes, corporate executives, celebrities, etc.
Point taken. The use of the word “soldier” rather than “guard” is presumptive.
I don’t see why the impact is any less depending on whether the guard insulted was a contractor or US military. It’s his work and what and who he was on guard to protect that this CongressCritter belittled.
Never, never get between a hog and its trough or a congressman and his perks!
The impact isn’t any less, especially since we’re constantly being asked to blur that line anyway. It’s just a matter of getting things right.
Asshole. Please tell me that he has a primary challenger.
4013 Americans dead in the Iraq Occupation as of this morning.
To me it’s the same, but many people would think it worse that he treated a member of the US military that way. So if you say “soldier” and it turns out “contractor” you seem to be over-hyping. It gives them something to strike back at you with. They say you weren’t being truthful, instead of defending his own indefensible deed.
Just got off the phone with Daniel Johnson 08 – they are aware of the story and are working local and national media now
Hope we have someone good running against this asshole this year.
Why are we letting assholes like this guy use resources that should be dedicated to troops? He should have been told to piss off.
And the duck-and-cover bit? Jeebus. If you’re too stupid to understand that, expecting somebody to hold your hand in a war zone, WTF are you doing there at all??
Bush does not care. There are zero Bush family members dead. There are zero Bush family members wounded. There are zero Bush family members serving in Bush’s war. In the discussion of numbers, these numbers never even make the news.
Yep, this guy could be good-nothing “two-bit” about him at all. Maybe Howie can give us the scoop at some point.
http://www.danieljohnson08.org……asp?id=45
I’ll start with AARRGGGHHHH! I think he’s auditioning to take Don Young’s part in congress as “Sleaziest loudmouth Congrressman.”
Patrick Henry – “Give me liberty of give me death!”
Patrick McHenry – “Give me YOUR death for MY liberty, you two-bit security guard!”
Bite your tongue. Nobody suffers more than W. The Vice-President said so.
If there were a single Democratic tactician on Capitol Hill–which there isn’t—they would introduce a motion to censor/condem/disavow McHenry and turn this thing into a big chest-thumping moment, and give the Rs some of their own indignant medicine.
But they won’t do that, because there isn’t a single Democrat in DC who knows how to think tactically. Not one.
The sense of entitlement alone might not be quite so obnoxious without the sense of disdain and disrespect for all the little people who dedicated their lives to helping them get there.
btw – listed Daniel Johnson instead of other Dem challengers bec he’s projected to win – Navy, amputee, most $$$ raised, etc.
and so did Pickles.
Although McHenry is in one of the safest gooper seats, he is beatable this year.
http://www.ncdp.org/patrick-mchenry-vulnerable
And I think there is a decent Democratic candidate too.
There are a number of good tacticians among the dems….the question is WHY won’t they act. IMO Pelosi has been bought and paid for, I wonder if she’s quietly blocking moves like that.
Boxturtle (She’s worse than the GOP. I hate traitors)
Pelosi and Reid “plead” with Bush to end the war…WTF?
http://ap.google.com/article/A…..QD8VR4HL80
This looks like a “Macacca Moment,” for McHenry. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. No really, it wouldn’t have.
A couple of interesting items from Rep. McHenry vis Wiki:
After earning a B.A. in history in 1999, McHenry worked for a media consulting firm DCI/New Media, overseeing Rick Lazio’s campaign against Hillary Clinton during her 2000 Senate bid. His main project there was running a Web site, NotHillary.com.
And, I’d like to know how someone who is literally the youngest member of the House can achieve this: McHenry occupies two House Republican leadership positions, serving as a Deputy Whip and as Vice Chairman of Finance for the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Executive Committee.
Additionally, the only major piece of legislation that McHenry has NOT toed the line with the GOP on was HR1, which would have implemented the recommendations of the 9/11 commission. He’s voted against any troop reductions, any deadlines or or schedules for troop reduction, any reduction in rates for student loans. He’s voted FOR more power for the president, the NSA, and for spying every. single. time.
Does this guy have his head in the Bushco trough or what?
Let me go out on a limb here, could this guy be echoing the pecking order that exists there, between CO’s/enlisted GIs and contractors?
I actually would have guessed that a security job in the GZ would be reserved for a GI, and that more dangerous assignments (guarding supply convoys, etc) would be left for contractors. This to keep down the mortality rate of soldiers, you know, to keep it out of the news, public opinions and all that…
“Often a noble face hides filthy ways”.
-Euripides
He stood there for half an hour, like an idiot… He actually said that.
What?! What?! as Dave Chapelle would say.
WTF pretty much covers my reaction as well. 5 years into this conflict you would think that they would have a gotten a clue by now but apparently not.
Amazing. This isn’t just a statement about McHenry, but a condemnation of our entire government.
We’ve arrived at the point where we are governed by the lowest common denominator, governed by default. This is what you get when only the stupidest will run for office.
Some people claim that domestic turkeys are very stupid animals, will drown if left out in the rain because they’ll simply look up at the pouring water instead of finding shelter.
I think we’ve found an elected official stupider than that. Sheesh.
I bet Issa and McHenry are close personal friends.
bleek.
I wonder if Pelosi and Reid are into domination and humilation.
Now that put a very bad image in my brain! I’ll be scrubbing that for weeks.
And I can’t believe that when an elected tourist comes in the green zone, there’s no directive given to the gasbags about procedures for actions to be taken when a security announcement is broadcasted. This guy is the king of morons…
They have the power to stop it, but they choose not to use it. Pleading with Bush?!? They should have articles of impeachment in their hands and be telling him “Stop it or we stop you”.
Boxturtle (I know this isn’t the morning grump thread, but *GRUMP*)
oy, I read about Issa’s coments this morning. *sigh* well couldn’t have happened to a bigger jackass
i’m sure president bush will give the same serious consideration to speaker pelosi and majority leader reid’s plea to end the war as pelosi and reid have given my pleas to them to end the war.
a youtube commenter states the chickenhawk made the remark to a Triple Canopy employer – no verification – and I’m thinking if that were the case he’d probably issue a statement on his site, finesse it, etc. but nuthin’ yet
employee, not “employer”
That’s what I thought.
I knew when I was in first grade that duck and cover meant…um, duck and cover. It’s not a hard concept to grasp.
Pelosi and Reid are ducking and covering under that proverbial table…
Ducking and covering from a lame duck, no less…
Pweez mr. Bush pweez wif a chewwy on top…pweety pweez…
Okay sure kids, since ya asked so pwetty, I’ll stop the war…just for you….now watch this swing….
let’s face it, Reid and Pelosi have attained the same idiocy level that McHenry has showed in that vid.
I called him, and a spokesperson said it was “a foreign contractor.” I guess that makes it all right. End of story…not. That jackanapes, fool, and court jester, along with his compadres Jack Kingston and Lynn Westmoreland, needs to be booted out.
I have but a lowly high school education, I’m a francophone who writes okay french. I barely can write good english. I sure as hell can structure my thoughts like all you amazing writers.
I look at your elected officials, and I can proudly shake my head in disgust. Something is so wrong with this picture. Rayne is so right. Lowest common denominator rules!
When the mortars went off, I’ll be the little chickensh*t was lookin’ for that two-bit security guard to save his sorry *ss.
soory, I cannot structure…
“bet”
“sorry”
What the hell is with those two? They act as if they are dealing with honorable people in this administration. They can’t still believe that, can they?
prove it !
ah come on now, Adam Putnam’s gonna feel left out :D
i’m sure there was. i’m equally sure he was busy on his blackberry ignoring all. he’s a Very Important Person with much more important things to do than listen to some stinking security talk.
Kingston.
Westmoreland.
Putnam.
McHenry…
I used to think these nimrod’s idiot-show was a put-up job for their districts. But I am certain now that I was wrong. They are as illustriously stupid as they appear.
Dawg bless the United States Congress.
I agree with you, Rosalind. They live in a fantasy world bourne out of priviledge and bullyism…
You’re so right, but I was afraid the list would get too long. Consider him added.
Do we in fact know that it was a soldier? He just says “guard”. Just asking. Is it known that only US service men guard Sadam’s palace, or more specifically, that a US soldier was involved in this incident?
Not that out representatives (little r) should go around antagonizing Iraqis if it turns out that it was an Iraqi guard. After all aren’t we suposed to be there to help “stabilize” their civil war, er, I mean, country?
Oops…sent to rosalind in error.
You’re so right, but I was afraid the list would get too long. Consider him added.
This twerp is a pathetic partisan pimp poised to plunder in the name of protection, while protecting nothing at all except irresponsible silver spooned in ass corpo-aristocrats……………….
See, if these guys (repuks) were smart, they would really be dangerous!!
repugs have no respect for soldiers….. they only pay lip service – these remarks show their contempt for military service – who’s shocked?? i hope he gets booted out and where’s the wingers calls for HIS ouster?? hmmmmmmm
That “two-bit security guard” was doing his J.O.B.
What a jerk.
Make the calls, faxes, e-mails and letters all the more memorable–tell the staff you’ll be donating to his Democratic challenger, or to his primary opponent, with the amount increasing daily until he does apologize. Since he’s not liekly to get aorund to it, $1/day until the primary would buy quite a few yard signs by–and if you go until November with a donation to the Democrat, we’re talking $200+.
Give the Congressman a flak jacket and drop him into Basra.
Republicans only appreciate courtesans, sycophants, flunkies, neer-do-wells and incompetents. If not one of these you are merely just the little people, objects of scorn, derision and ridicule. When will the nation be rid of this plague of Republiklans?
Hey, have a little understanding here. The gym is primarily for those big, rugged, sweaty, masculine servicemen to pump iron and smell like men and then get naked in the showers together. The mere anticipation of it all had this closet case´s Boehner raging in anticipation and he was not willing to let anything jeopardize his fantasies.
