I’m pondering whether the Republicans really have a clue about who they really think is more dangerous for them. I suspect that since they are attacking Obama unrepentantly, while asserting that he’d be the easier candidate for McCain…that he’s actually the stronger candidate. But given what they have to overcome in terms of the economic disaster on the ground, upward spiralling oil prices, the foreboding threat that the Fed may have opened the door for inflation…and the fact that they are failures in national security…has me rubbing my hands in anticipation.

And McCain lobs out these softballs that he thinks are “reality”.

Also wondering about the reliability of three different polls in Pennsylvania that show a big increase for Obama. Some have suggested these are somehow being manipulated by the Clinton campaign (how?) so that “expectations are lowered” and it appears that any win will be a “victory”. Hate to say it but that sort of thing may work earlier in a campaign…but now she needs lots of delegates. And if she doesn’t pick them up in something like 60%-40% fashion she’s not gonna get them.

But I noticed today she said something about “None of the delegates are committed, and that includes those that were the product of Primaries and Caucuses.” Well, while technically true…they aren’t called “Delegates” for nothing. People expect those that were assigned to represent those that voted for a candidate to keep their word. Of course, maybe Hillary is saying that those pledges are “just words”. But if she really thinks that it’s perfectly acceptable for delegates to void the results of the Primaries and Caucuses then why doesn’t she just come out and say that she doesn’t give a damn about Democracy and what people voted?

I think you’re right. How many alumni will be sending in checks so long as a war criminal is on the faculty?

The Clash was already spiralling down by that time. They were much better in smaller venues and before the highly commercial “Rock The Casbah” album. Strummer had begun to make some really stupid personnel changes…I think Topper and Jones were out by then.

Did you see this in the NYTimes today? Hillary’s entry onto Leno’s show is dreadfully reminiscent of Bush at the press club joking about weapons of mass destruction. “I was pinned down by sniper fire at the Burbank airport.” It was stupid when Bush did it and it’s __________ when Hillary does it.

In the poll, 81 percent of respondents said they believed “things have pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track,” up from 69 percent a year ago and 35 percent in early 2002.

Elizabeth Edwards has cancer. John McCain has had cancer in the past. Last weekend, Mrs. Edwards bluntly pointed out that neither of them would be able to get insurance under Mr. McCain’s health care plan.

It’s about time someone said that and, more generally, made the case that Mr. McCain’s approach to health care is based on voodoo economics — not the supply-side voodoo that claims that cutting taxes increases revenues (though Mr. McCain says that, too), but the equally foolish claim, refuted by all available evidence, that the magic of the marketplace can produce cheap health care for everyone.

As Mrs. Edwards pointed out, the McCain health plan would do nothing to prevent insurance companies from denying coverage to those, like her and Mr. McCain, who have pre-existing medical conditions.

It took me all day yesterday to get through the Yoo memo. [pdf’s] I kept tearing up. My law partner asked me if someone close to me had died. It’s going to take more research and analysis than I can do in a day to demonstrate even a tiny fraction of the misstatements, misapplications of law, and outright lies in this, ahem, document (I’d like to call it something else, but if I let my temper get the better of me, the research and analysis will never get done).

i tried gettin in here for over a half hour . I finally brought up my Task Manager and saw my processor was running 100%, all the time, the whole thing locked up,
I started shutting things down and still, 100% CPU.
I finally got a low virtual memory message and decided to see how much available memory I had.
Get this, 500KB.
I did clean disk and got a bunch back but it took forever, like fifteen more minutes and I finally ran a program I bought called Memory Turbo, it scours the physical memory and cleans it out. Now I have like 117 MB.
Not great but much, much better!,
