I hate Joe Lieberman with the best of them, but I think he might have meant (or even said, it’s hard to tell) “Al-Qaeda AND Iran” not “Al-Qaeda IN Iran”. It’s still bullshit because if we left Iraq, “Al-Qaeda in Mesopotamia” would disappear. Iran’s influence however would remain, but it’s influence is never going to disappear whether we stay or not (see the recent ceasefire negotiations).
