I found a couple of decent recordings of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring on Youtube, but his Firebird is also very “springy,” and contains some of the most hopeful music ever written by a human.

IMO, Rite of Spring works only if you have a partner with whom you can have vigorous sex.

Poodles are in very good spirits pretty consistently. They always make me smile.

Virginia executions on hold

RICHMOND, April 1 — Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine announced Tuesday that he is halting all executions until the Supreme Court decides whether lethal injection violates the constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment.

Kaine’s announcement came as he stayed the April 8 execution of Edward N. Bell, who killed a police officer in Winchester in 1999. Along with the reprieve, Kaine said future executions will be put on hold until the Supreme Court rules in the case of Baze v. Rees. The case was argued in January, and a decision could come before the court adjourns in June.

“In order to provide guidance to courts, litigants and the public, it is my intention . . . to grant a temporary delay of any execution date in Virginia that has been set,” Kaine (D) said in a statement.

The decision prompted concern from Republicans that Kaine, who opposes the death penalty, is trying to work toward a permanent moratorium, a contention that administration officials deny.

ACLU: Military Skirting Law to Spy

NEW YORK (AP) - The military is using the FBI to skirt legal restrictions on domestic surveillance to obtain private records of Americans’ Internet service providers, financial institutions and telephone companies, the ACLU said Tuesday.

The American Civil Liberties Union based its conclusion on a review of more than 1,000 documents turned over by the Defense Department after it sued the agency last year for documents related to national security letters. The lawsuit was filed in Manhattan federal court.

The letters are investigative tools used to compel businesses to turn over customer information without a judge’s order or grand jury subpoena.

This was posted and passed onto me today from a reader of Marketwatch.com a blogger commented…just passin’ it on…interesting:

“UBS plans further $19 bln in write-downs, seeks capital boost… to issue $18 bln in stock… The mortgage bankers “took their money (after reselling the loan to a thrid party) and ran”. Don’t these people who are losing their homes wish someone would invest in them so that they could keep their home. UBS said there will be a maximum of 1.25 billion new shares issued and the capital raising has been fully underwritten by a syndicate of banks including J.P. Morgan Chase (JPM:JPMorgan Chase %26 Co) , Morgan Stanley, BNP Paribas, and Goldman Sachs (GS:Goldman Sachs Group, Inc) . Which means that the BIG GUYS and underwriters have set the minimum price… don’t you wish you could do that when the correction occurs… ?

The writing is on the wall, this market is going “no where but down”, and the big guys want you to “buy THEIR stock”, along with your taxes, and have you “fund the bail-out of THEIR disaster”… don’t you see where this is all going… you can’t even invest in innovative companys that don’t outsource any more becase even their stock is being victimized by this “MELT DOWN”… these “fat cats” have torpedoed this entire market.

These guys are driven by nothing more than GREED and are destined to “MELT the market”. The BIG GUYS can issue stock in a bad market when their investments go bad (and hope someone will buy what they are selling)… you however can not…

The only “MELTING” you are going to see in this market is when “the Stock Market goes LIQUID”, all of those holding stock will see their holdings “LIQUIFY” as the bottom falls out of their “PORTFOLIO WEALTH”, those holding stock will watching everything they have slipping through their fingers and there will be nothing they can do about it… those that don’t get out fast enough while there are still buyers in queue will be left holding nothing at all (you saw what happened to Bear Stearns on a recent Friday and the weekend deal that followed, otherwise they would not have been able to open the market for business at all the following Monday).

If you are still invested in this market… Sell your stocks NOW “for whatever you can get” (better than $2 per share I’ll bet), and wait for the correction. You will be GLAD that YOU DID… and RICHER for it. There is no stock or sector that is not going to be affected by the coming correction, you will look back on today and say why didn’t I get out at today’s comparitivly high prices… $2 or $10 will feel the same later compared to what you could have gotten today. Get out NOW and buy back in “after the correction” or “crash” as the case may be.”

I’m going to look into just how ’spensive one of them Maine Coon Cats is, That looks like my kinda cat after reading up on ‘em!
