Got an interesting mailing/survey today from the Howard Dean and the DNC title “2008 Presidential Campaign Survey.” It starts “To Fellow Democrat” which is funny because I’m a registered Independent. Not that I mind letting them know what I think. There were some decent questions.

Sadly but typically, the survey ended with this question: “To help our Party win the WH and score victories up and down the ballot in 2008, will you join the DNC as a contributing member today?” I checked “no” and wrote in:
“I can’t rejoin your party until you: 1.) impeach Bush/Cheney; 2.) purge Joe Lieberman, and 3.) start protecting our Constitution.”

Disruption at T5 enters third day

Passengers unable to find accommodation slept in the airport
Passengers at Heathrow’s new Terminal 5 face disruption for the third day running, with flight cancellations due to continue through the weekend.

British Airways said it expects another 37 short-haul flights will be cancelled on Saturday, falling to 21 on Sunday.

More than 100 flights at the new £4.3bn terminal were called off on Thursday and Friday because of earlier glitches with the baggage-handling systems.

An airline spokeswoman said the situation was “improving steadily”.

She said all long-haul services departing from the terminal on Saturday would go ahead as planned and advised customers to check on www.ba.com for a full list of flight cancellations.

“The airline will continue to closely monitor the situation as it works towards restoring a full operation as soon as possible,” she added.

‘Disrupted journeys’

Passengers on cancelled services will be able to rebook or apply for a refund.

US Democratic Party chairman Howard Dean has said he would like the party’s presidential nominating contest decided by 1 July to avoid bitter in-fighting.

Mr Dean told US network ABC he did not want rivalry between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton to “degenerate into a big fight at the convention” in August.

Mr Obama has begun a six-day tour of Pennsylvania, which votes on 22 April.

Meanwhile the Republican contender John McCain has aired his first advert aimed at November’s general election.

The Arizona senator is effectively guaranteed to pick up his party’s nomination to run for president at the Republican National Convention in September.

In the Democratic contest, Senator Obama is ahead of Senator Clinton in terms of the number of delegates won in the party’s primary elections.

But the battle for the presidential nomination seems set to continue all the way to the party’s national convention in late August.

Speaking on ABC’s Good Morning America show on Friday, Mr Dean urged the two Democratic rivals to focus on the general election battle rather than attacks on each other.

I feel that the only solution is for Clinton to surrender, and the only way to move that along is to:

a) Educate the remaining primary voters to understand the situation

b) Urge enough superdelegates to grow some backbone

Another factor will be the growing shrillness of the Clinton campaign as it feels its oxygen being cut off.

I can’t really think of anything for the Obama side to do except ignore her and run against McCain. Outside of surrendering the campaign and just letting Clinton have the nomination. He’s in a rather blameless position in that all he did to create the situation was defeat her in all those primaries.

Yeah, I spent 4 hours today educating myself on who the delegates/superdelegates were. I figure by the end of next week, if I apply myself, I’ll know what the fuck it all means.
In the meantime, I’m calling ALL our state congress Monday to find out what the young staffers think. And give feed back.
I called all the congress critters who re-evaluated their vote on FISA to thank them. The young staffers were so thankful and happy to be praised that it kind of broke my heart. What a shitty day they must have sometimes.Of course, my first reaction to their surprise was ” oh,shit, do I have the wrong list?”.

openhope, that carrot is just as important as the stick. especially when it comes to congress-critters. i do feel for the poor staffers who bear the brunt of our calls to action (as opposed to being able to speak directly with the congresscritter) but it is good for those thinking of a life in political service to learn how important it is to listen to we the people.

His “machine” is not that big a deal, and has no enthusiasm. 25 state legislators (of about 70 total demos) endorsed Obama today. The organization is actually split, with the loyal half not really caring. The only poll taken showed Obama 40% Clinton 25%. People like Bayh, they’re just not interested in this boondoggle.

i won’t know if i can make the cd release party until it gets closer to that date, thatguy. she is still booking me up and i figure i should know by the end of april or so if i am free or not.

It’s like he’s popular,just like his dad was. He is seen as a quite intelligent guy and a good senator, not that I always agree with him. Clinton, on the other hand, was so hated by our Reppublican neighbors, almost maniacally, that it kinda bleeds over to the democratts as well. Add to that the current behavior that fulfills all of those stereotypes, and I think her approval rating here is even lower than the national number. Then throw in that McCain beats her 53-36 while he beats Obama 50-41. It might be nice for Bayh to get a shot at VP, but for everyone else its a big sh*t sandwich.

Oh I only heard (months ago) Bayh mentioned/rumored to be a potential VP for Hillary.
