I noticed in the last few weeks that several people have expressed their opinions about former NYS Governor Eliot Spitzer. I even read a ton of stuff on selective prosecution. I was frustrated when I read it all, but figured NYS politics is inside baseball and I am not a regular blogger, (altho I like to read what America is blogging), so I kept out. Eliot Spitzer was not a good governor. He could not build consensus, which is essential to governing. Importantly, Eliot Spitzer was not a progressive Governor. He vehemently opposed a tax on millionaires that would have helped to fund health care and edcuation — most millionaires wouldn’t have even noticed the tax. Eliot Spitzer and his family are millionaires many times over, real estate moguls. I could care less about his sexual escapades. He was also a mean-spirited prosecutor and executive. See this link. I know it will be difficult for those outside of the Albany NY drama to catch on to all of it — but the nasty parts about scapegoating his communications director and visciously going after the Senate Majority leader and then covering it up may be clear. I enter this only because I can no longer stand reading about how others were out to get Governor Spitzer. If they were, he gave them good reason. I am sorry I will not have time to participate in further discussion. You all seem like a lively and educated bunch with healthy curiousity. Understand what really happened here in NY. It’s dirty stuff. Do some investigating. http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/dailypolitics/

I wonder if there’s video available of that 2003 speech? I’m sure CSpan has it.

i don’t think mccain actually made the statement from the senate floor - looks like it was inserted into the congressional record by mccain (if so, it’s still his statement - but a written one, NOT a spoken one).

we gone through this in several threads, (for example, here and here). if someone could get this info to jane, i’d be grateful. it would be a shame to have the effort in anyway undermined by getting the story wrong.

eureka at 52–

i like to keep an eye on them all……a little hobby of mine.

felipe sixto had no political contributions, strange for such a high position.

but, this guy has me interested-

”White House spokesman Scott Stanzel said on Friday.

The matter has been turned over to the Justice Department for investigation, Stanzel said. He said Bush was briefed on the case and felt that the approriate action was being taken.”

worked for microsoft. then bush.

http://www.newsmeat.com/fec/by.....irst=scott

omg

this next site is rich with info–is he microsoft or is he memorex? he is listed on above link as senior products manager, but in this article, he is public relations in seattle, yet he was in washington, dc for a couple of years. then into bush’s white house.

this is his family blog=he’s writing his thoughts, and it’s interesting. in a repub kind of way.
i like observing other species. this is rare, and very revealing in all kinds of ways.

kinda feel sorry for his naivete being wasted on repub thinking.

October 16, 2006

Washington, D.C. – An Iowa native was named deputy White House press secretary today, and will be a spokesman for President Bush on issues dealing with homeland security, education and agriculture.

Scott Stanzel, 33, a 1995 graduate of Iowa State University, will become one of the highest-ranking Iowans in the Bush administration.

“It’s an opportunity in the final two years of President Bush’s
administration to really work hard to communicate his vision, and what he’s trying to accomplish,” said Stanzel, currently working in public relations for Microsoft Corp. in Seattle.

Stanzel, who grew up on a Sac City farm, got his start in Republican politics working for former Sen. Robert Dole’s presidential campaign through the 1996 Iowa caucuses. more
