Neil Young and Talking Heads are still tied for first place.

I would really love it. I’ve tried, no luck.
too many snacks for one night. i’m off to bed. night all.
I wouldn’t mind being the snake in that video…! 8-)
Everytime I see Salma Hayek with next-to-no-clothes on, I think of the line from Dogma, that it doesn’t take talent to get a bunch of horny retards to part with their money, then she does that Home Alone imitation.
Love her, clothed or not!

Always dug this guy. And of course this was a huge, huge hit.
Over on my humble blog we are diggin’ the best in ant-consumerist punk….
Check it out!
it’s too bad ginger and jack couldn’t stand each other. e c was always missing something without those two.imho
Offenbach near Bankfurt?
Just home from qork. Showed one of my classes a youtube of Nijinksy’s famous choreography of Debussy’s “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun” at the conclusion of which in the original version, Nijinsky apparently jacked off on stage (1912). In the youtube I showed, the male dancer sort of does homage to the legend, but…
Class loved it, as we talked about differences between symbolism, impressionism and the sets on the youtube, which are somewhat art nouveau.
Frankfurt…! Yeppers!
Eric Clapton was born to play the blues – I wish that someone would just up and tell him that, ’cause his solo, self-written stuff is simplistic and monstrously boring.
When he plays the blues, however……..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4OXrmxDp44
Y’all are SO lucky that you can’t see me dancing………
Sorry Suz, I just saw your question.
I don’t know who does that song. I think it’s Jerry Garcia and assorted friends.
and they claimed jim morrison was a pervert and obscene instead of following in the footsteps of 1912’s trail blazing path
hey et – how’s alaska this spring?
I must say he was inspired when playing with the Dominos and with Duane!!
and tom Dowd was a master at mixing Layla.
okay, now please don’t hit me (or perpetrate other untoward violence on me) but back in the day Elton John released an albumn titled “11-17-70″ and it was recorded at WNEW in NYC. The intro was done by a famous old DJ named Dave Herman, and I did love that albumn. One of the great songs was “Take me to the Pilot”, there were others… actually the whole albumn was pretty damn good. And it was live. Wish it was out on the tubes…
Particularly when he teams up with another blues legend…

Old & In the Way
Old & In the Way by Clements, Vassar, Grisman, David, Rowan, Peter, and Garcia, Jerry (Audio CD – Jan 30, 1996)
I lived in that round hotel tower at the traffic circle for a couple of weeks testing the MP Bt. at BankFurt. the 716th or 719th. Can’t remember.
His live rock shows in the 70’s were truly inspired, even though his rock albums were equally uninspired.
Cow Palace, New Years Eve, ‘78 or ‘79 – nearly unmatched rock shows.
ha…
Dang. I didn’t realize how old those guys were on the old Creme songs. Great music, folks!
i like early elton…. and i admit having some disco tunes i enjoy too
have you heard his blueberry hill cover on the fats domino tribute cd?
Jim Morrison a Pervert? With music like this? Fuck no. The perversion is war, not the Lizard King.
thanks margot.. i’ll keep my eyes out for it
Got up to 92 F in my greenhoue yesterday. I wasn’t here to see how hot it got today, but the arugula is growing incredibly fast. This may be the first year we’ll have fresh greens in mid-April.
Ms. ET and I will be in the Sacramento area the last weekend in May, watching ETette competing in the Division 2 National Crew championship. Her team has won the last two, and she’s ready for #3! We’d love to meet some central CA firepups over the next few days after the races.
the last weekend in may is the wedding :( i’m all booked up from thursday until monday :( :(
I met a kid back in ‘77 who saw him at ASU? right after Ocean Blvd. came out. The aud. was almost empty when ec comw out on stage and he said “fuck it, let’s play the old stuff” and the few heard one hella show!
Disco? ssssshhhh… don’t tell anyone. After all, how were we supposed to enjoy our Saturday Night Fevers in the 70’s? 8-)
Hehehe, now that’s some over-the-top video…
you can tell by the way i walk
Hmmm… I only visited Offenbach to see Peter Gabriel in concert, not really familiar with the environs… I was in FRG from ‘86 to early ‘89…!
From BBC News World Service:
Low Rider is an absolute classic, along with Walking Spanish Down the Hall.
Peter Rowan on fiddle -
that was Excellent!!
Thank you – owe ya one…..
Woohoo… here’s a classic. You know, I was living in the Bay Area during the Summer of Love (I was like 12) and you know it took me years to figure out what the hell the Dormouse said. 707!
big scary effin traffic circle just after you crossed the bridge from frankfurt into O’bach. scaaary.
Andy Kuhlburg was also in Seatrain
Also from the Beeb:
The Bush Admin has been absolutely quiet about all this…implicit also in its backing of Uribe of Colombia…
grace was so forking stoned at that show….
i was in pleasant hill – forbidden to step foot in berkeley
is jj still alive? yes, it was Roy Buchanan what killed himself.
Sounds every bit as exciting as watching rowing. Maybe more so. We should stay in touch – we’d really like to meet you, Teddy, other SF and mid-CA firepups, before we head up for our Napa/St. Helena wine tour….
Heh, I’ve never met one I liked…! You can be trapped in the center lane and never get out! ;-)
CA pups are in ET!
gonna be a busy time but i would love to see ya. tis my oldest daughter getting married but hopefully, after the wedding is over and my eyes are not so red rimmed. perhaps we can hook up here at the little cottage by the creek et.
Yep, and he and Eric did a special highlighting both of their works, while collaborating on some new stuff!
you said it!! i recall a couple of monsters in Berlin also. eeek!
I was in Sunnyvale. My parents used to let me go into the SFO on the weekends by myself, as long as I promised not to buy any pot.
Any Asleep at the Wheel fans out here around The Lake? Ray Benson, who was once described as having a Pearl Beer face and and a Johnny Walker voice sings “Way Down Texas Way“… love some AATW. Met the band once after a show in Corpus Christi.
jj cale? oh yeah – in fact his piano player left a comment on a jj piece i had up at my place (it was a month or two ago)
You’re the first person to whom I’ve ever spoken that even knew that Roy Buchanan existed…….
your mind is on vacation
and your mouth is working overtime
love asleep at the wheel jofish.
another one that check out too soon.
aha.. found the utube
Hey Suzanne, I haven’t had this much fun in a long time… and I have to get up in four hours to catch a flight back to the east coast. Screw it. I might hang out here… LOL.
Asleep at the Wheel, Reba, and Johnny Cash, among others, played at a Country Fest in Frankfurt, it was an awesome concert!
a mose allison classic.
ya can always sleep on the plane.. assuming you are passenger and not flight crew. i’m just saying…
Sleep on the plane! ;-)
Dang, I owe ya another Coke…!
Not crew on this flight. LOL. Catch me out of JFK one day!
as long, of course, as there are no snakes on the mofo plane
ctuttle, when you were in FRG did you ever hear or hear of a blues singer called Queen Yahna?
laughing… one day i’ll visit ya and you can pay up
No, no snakes.
Thanx for the AATW. Great one!
love that snake farm video
Here’s something a bit different. A guy who has just gotten better, but his early stuff was great, as evidenced by this.
Try This
Yes!
I saw them with Emmylou Harris years ago. Love them.
Ha! Got one that y’all don’t – friend in England who is a “friend” of the band….
“Woke up This Mornin…”, Alabama 3……..
Couldn’t get it to play. Ray Wiley Hubbard… ha hah love it.
I’ll never forget sitting in a bar in Wyoming back in the 70s listening to “…it was not the perfect country western song, cause it didn’t say anything about momma or prison or getting drunk or pickup trucks….”
saw emmylou back when george strait was opening for her. her voice is so pure that it can not be accurately captured on the media available at the time… cassettes were the media of choice at the time iirc
!!
JFK–
Thanks! I really appreciate that.;)
sweet.. thanks smgumby
Not that I recall! Do you remember this song?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ect3VoEUJn8

Hey how about a little Jerry Jeff Walker.. LA Freeway
oops goin’ into seriously sleep-deprived mode here – forgot the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgoyXJiZqLk
jerry jeff does redneck wonderfully
No…? I remember Geronimos Cadillac from further down the list of vids but not sure if it was by the same band.
From the Beeb:
If you’d have heard how many times those Wyoming shit-kickers played that song in the jukebox it would have been all you could do to keep from crying. :-) But I still love it. I think RWH (among others) covered it.
David Allen Coe is some great C&W!
I love music threads………
nope, written by steve goodwin
hubbard did write redneck tho
Me 2!
me too :)
sorry for the typo.. it was steve goodman..not goodwin
Yeah, sleep deprivation is setting in. Must.Have.Caffeine. You’re right. I’m so embarrassed. :)
Yep, that’d be the same group, they were all the rage in the Discos in Germany, Louie, Louie was their No.1 song!
My sleep deprivation…. :)
jayt, i remember roy buchanan from a couple of records my BiL had. he’s a picker.

first time i was in eur. Lola was the rage-’71. german/euro discos crazy!
you know my BiL?
when a guitar plays the blues

Was that the right one? Cool. I am sooo hesitant to post Youtubes when I can’t watch ‘em first.
I have accidentally posted some youtubes that were REALLY NOT what I wanted.
Here’s anothre C&W classic. London Homesick Blues…

i think he is la ct
You have about 9-10 years on me…!

Coulda sworn he was a Bakersfield/Fresno product!
i remember those guys – and those crazy outfits that were all the rage back in the days of the british invastion
Biodun…I thought you had thrown us over for Hong Kong…did ya have a lightbulb moment?
Dangit Biodun! Didn’t you get the memo? The surge is a success, the civil war is over.
Nothing to see there….
(glad to see ya, btw!)
Okay, campiest music video on UTube… funny! But a good song, in fact a hit!
that’s where buck owens had his place – dwight would play there a lot but his ranch was in the la area.. i’m remembering something about his place burning during one of the big wildfires several years ago and that he almost was caught by the fire trying to get his horses out
in retrospect, waasn’t that pathetic?
what was pathetic is remembering the entire pe class ‘doing the freddy’
Spirit Lake? Wow. I put up the sheet rock in the Star Drug in ‘74. Danced at the Mogambo Club on Okiboji, and met a wonderful girl dancing to Brandi by Looking Glass.
i’m a small-town iowa boy, i don’t even know what the freddy is/was.:)
Speaking of them, and there… ;-)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVSeKnTzg6U
NO SHIT?
do the freddy
I poured concrete for eight days nostop east of S.L at a grain elevator and got wasted everywhere in Okiboji.
sigh… this song is always associated with my driving down I5 through the central valley down to the la basin
Yeah, no shit. Had a great summer, well part of it then I went to Wyoming to work for the rest of the summer for a geological firm, mapping sheep shit and rocks. Dated that girl for a few years.
actually that was in ‘73. faulty memory the result of all that getting wasted.:(
last time i was in that area all those great joints had been bulldozed and the Park was gone too.
standin’ up for the Homee….
John Hiatt, with Sonny Landreth……
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_CUzuitxSI
We, thank you very much, will be Riding only with The King………..
NP, easy mistake to make. :) No seeds, no stems. Mellow. 707!
Yeah, some developer probably bought it all and turned it into Wisteria Lane on Okoboji. That sucks!
Wasted?
Oh I hope that’s right…
Oh fine, thanks Suz, now I’m doing the Freddie… well, in my brain.
exactly…
Yesssss…. thanks for that pure bit of joy!
I’m so glad I wasn’t subjected to that, now the twist is another story…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..re=related
my first grown-up concert CSN&Y july 1970. wow!!
burn one down
My misspent youth… oh well, when I turn 65 I’ll make up for wasted time.
Edward Teller, couldn’t be more impressed by your Ballets Russes exposure to your students. Dance and film critics soundly panned the late Herbet Ross’s NIJINSKY! feature film – primarily because the late director Ross allowed some creative license during editing and didn’t adhere to a chronological time frame when recreating Nijinsky ballets in his epic portrayal of the immortal Russian dancer/choregrapher.
I served as curator of performance paintings of Nijinsky for the Stowitts Museum on the Monterey Peninsula, including his revolutionary Faun role. Here is a linky to a sampling, including Nijinsky in the final poetic moment as the Faun. http://www.stowitts.org/nd%20main.html
heeheeheehee
Mine was the Stones in Boulder for Tattoo You tour…!
hey npb *waving across monterey bay*
Fraternity of Man all you Easy Riders out there!
my first concert was beatles – candlestick

Nah, I was a transplant. Ended up at UofI for a while. Bummed around, drilled water wells finally finished college and flew airplanes. Had to give up my evil ways…. but I do love that part of the country.
That’s the unofficial state anthem here in the Isles…! *g*
Why doesn’t that surprise me? 707!
I really hesitate to share, but my first was Bon Jovi – Slippery When Wet.
1980’s butt-rock for you old farts. You may as well want to skip the link!
and santa cruz county (laughing)
i was enrolled at the UofI in ‘73, got my BA in alcohol and drug abuse there before the 1st semester was even over. definately a mis-spent youth.
Was that like around ‘66 or ‘67?
Holy crap, are you my not-so-evil twin?
hey, uncle sam
66 i think
man, am I having a stupendously stupid sleep deprived night
hopefully I didn’t already post this: standin’ up for my Homee:
John Hiatt, with Sonny Landreth (that guy can play….!!!!)
Okay, now here’s where we get to the “hard core” folks. Who was a Grand Funk fan? C’mon you can admit it… I used to sit behind my drum kit every day and try and get Don Brewer’s licks down… These guys were selling out stadiums when they were like 19.
jay, i have been sleeping in shifts for 2 days now. had a showing after 3 hours of sleep this morning and one afer 4 yesterday morning. those forking afernoon naps have been forking flipped again – night is day and day is night i fear. i blame it on all the years spent working nights at the pd.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_CUzuitxSI
(seem to have forgotten the link – again) My bad.
swoon
I saw this group in ‘90 at the Centrum in Worcester, MA…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9sEBBCIZ54
Yeah, I wanted to go, but could not get anyone to take me. Parent, not Beatles fans.
Were you a KYA or KFRC listener? Chris Edwards and Tom Campbell (KYA)… used to play Zappa. Now how cool was that?
Now KYA is like a wingnut talkradio isn’t it?
drums
used to blast this when i was ticked off at my parents. it was guaranteed to get a ‘turn that down now’ out of them.
ohmystars! emperor gene nelson. hey thar kemosabe. used to listen to them and the whole crew.
sweet sweet video jayt…
night is day and day is night …
yeah – I’m there.
Only stayed awake today because I was expecting some totally pissed-off phone calls from Da Judge, or Da Prosecutor.
Didn’t happen, either of them. Probably will tomorrow – at which point I plan to be soundly asleep. Fuck ‘em.
errr… sleep deprivation? LOL!!! Linky wrong, but the Crue is awesome too CT…
thanks – it’s what I’m known for.
Well that, and never-ending inanities during live-blogs….*g*
It’s what I do………..
i could be!
you will get a late friday afternoon call that you will not be able to respond to until monday morning
Iron Butterfly rocked!
you will get a late friday afternoon call that you will not be able to respond to until monday morning…
So?!!?
Here’s some of the teeny-tiny Zappa on You Tube, Peaches en Regalia with Terry Bozzio on drums. Man, he had a hot sister and she could sing too (Missing Persons).
they sure did ct. my dad’s jaw would start to clench when he heard those opening notes
they will have all weekend to really get good and mad, jayt
Hey, this is the longest I think I have been commenting on FDL in a while. Too much fun! Thanks Suz, you’re my heroine!!!
didn’t frank win a grammy for the album “hot rats”?
i found this one but its not live :(
glad you have been enjoying yourself, jofish
Inagaddavida reminded me of this classic…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqZmtq5LhFo
i saw frank at the fieldhouse at the UofI in ‘78. learned later that everything frank and the band did was choreographed down to the last detail. amazing!
sweet. thanks ct
with bad intent…
Holy shitskys… check this out. John Lennon, Yoko, and Frank & The Mothers at the Fillmore East in 1971. This must have been the same night that Zappa recorded the Live at the Fillmore East album (a classic with Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan aka “the Turtles”)
Yes, Yoko is screeching.
But other than that, how cool someone got this on film.
Suz has a reputation for being fun to hang out with…..
I probably oughta re-phrase that one, huh?
its amazing what they have on them there you tubes, jofish.
its ok, jayt. i let everyone slide with that fair and balanced bit last night
she ain’t on the force anymore:)
Yeah, I think so. He was an amazing musician who did a lot of pioneering work.
Okay so explain this to me… are they all connected together or how does this work? LOL :>)
iirc it was for best jazz album.
Who would say such a thing…? *g*
would be cool if they had one of them amazon ‘if you liked this you might like’ deals … of course, if they did, i would get totally lost and never come out.
coughctcough
there’s danger in them thar intertoobz!
what? – I can’t even get a hands-on-the-hips glare?

that band got a lot better when the finally took my advice and added a sax.
sing sing sing
My favorite radio station out of ontario played that song ALL the time. *grin* it was a mix of modern alternative and lotsa blues and classic rock. They still do that now, which is why i tune into it when i visit my parent’s house. That little canadian radio station is better than most anything in michigan i’ve heard in years. XD
are ya saying that things go better with sax? or that sax makes things better?
Wow… Bradrocket is after Jeralyn bigtime.
This is not a good thing…
d’s need to be saving their going after for the r’s and not other d’s.
Yup… this crap is getting so old.
yeap – no insult intended towards those who have not had a vote yet but can the never ending primary puh-leeze be over
are ya saying that things go better with sax? or that sax makes things better?

How about some other 70’s rock? Heart… saw them open in 76 for Fleetwood Mac in San Diego. Better than FM (well in my opinion that night)…
>no insult intended towards those who have not had a vote yet…..
HEY – I’ve never cast a meaningful ballot for the Presidency of The Unites States in my entire life. (course since I’m only, ummmm, 28, that may not seem like much)
On May 6, I get the chance to do just that – for the first time in my adult life, I have the opportunity to actually have a bit of a say as to who’s gonna be running this place.
I’m pretty damned happy about that (primary isn’t until May 6), but for the first, and almost certainly last time, I get to cast a vote which matters.
You deserting my all-nighter? Damn…
Have to ask you the musical question… ha ha ha… your thoughts?
saw fleetwood mac 6 weeks after my total knee relacement surgery. doc told me there was no way in hell i would be able to attend and to sell the tickets.
no forking way. i was there with icepacks, crutches, and jen was my designated driver (due to the heavy meds i was still on).
and yes, that is it for me tonight, folks. catch ya tomorrow night, when ES has late late nite, and then I’ve got a great cartoon for ya Saturday nite.
see ya then.
Nite, Suz…
And once again, thanks for staying up with me.
And it’s probably worth noting that this thread got between 350-400 comments.
Damn girl – nobody likes you, huh? *g*
Just made a fresh pot of coffee – but when I do go to sleep, it’ll most likely be a different month when I wake up.
Nite Suz, thanx for the pah-tay! See ya soon!!!
