Sometimes they're just so insane, rational discussion becomes impossible:
"The president carries the biggest burden, obviously," Cheney said. "He's the one who has to make the decision to commit young Americans, but we are fortunate to have a group of men and women, the all-volunteer force, who voluntarily put on the uniform and go in harm's way for the rest of us."
That kind of narcissistic callousness is really difficult to comprehend.
Bob Fertik at democrats.com is trying to arrange Iraq Town Halls in 435 congressional districts demanding that representatives vote "no" for $102 billion more for Iraq. If you're of a mind to take part, you can get the information here.

ok, siedem
in other words,
(]///////////> you, America
yeah, f*ck you, D*ck …
when does dick appoint himself mcsame’s running mate? after all that vp-for-life slot is not a temporary gig.
“5 Years, 5 Deferments. Dick Cheney: “I had other priorities.””
No, sorry. Leadership from Nancy and Harry is off the table.
These stats are from “Dr. Hussein Matt” a commenter at C&L. I’ll come back with the links. Hope he doesn’t mind:
Link for stats above.
“voluntarily put on the uniform and go in harm’s way for the rest of us.”
He should be impeached for that phrase alone.
They don’t voluntarily put on the uniform and go in harm’s way for people who bald-face lie to them.
4,000 died because Cheney lied.
Or maybe “vp-forever” thru the magic of animatronics.
President Bush today said U.S. deaths in Iraq had “laid the foundations for peace for generations to come,” one day after the military announced its 4,000th death since the war started.
There’s several Bush family members and relatives that are of the right age to serve. Yet no one in the MSM every mentions that. It’s outrageous both that they won’t serve and that they get a pass on it.
This is a comment from C&L (blog blast re Michael O’Hanlon) as well. I think it deserves to be repeated here. If I am breaking some protocol, please let me know.
From Fubar at C&L:
No body gives a fuck, they are shopping.
Cheney sounds like he’s saying Volunteers = Suckers.
In researching The Three Trillion Dollar War, Stiglitz/Bilmes had to make estimates of how many US civilians (mostly contractors) have been killed in Iraq. There are at least 100,000 contractors, and estimate of deaths is approximately 1000. Not all of these were Americans.
Oh, but they really really want to…it’s so…romantic! yeah, that’s it. I think Bush might help Barney Frank legalize marijuana after all.
Someone should ask Bush or his Administration if these statistics are right.
Someone should ask Bush or his Administration why this is ok.
It’s not just the sound, it’s the smirk when he says it.
When Cheney famously said “So?” in response to the reporter’s statement that most Americans want the war to end now, was accompanied by his sinister lopsided sneer.
every one who voted for the war should be required to send one of their kids to one front or the other in the army
Well, that democrats.com site doesn’t work for me at all. I’d love to help with this too.
The very first “raise your hand” business doesn’t work.
Digg it!
Typically for him, Mr. Cheney omits the half of the contract that he’s supposed to fulfill.
Military personnel agree to do one of the world’s hardest jobs; it could easily involve their deaths in training, much less combat. In exchange, their government commits to use military force only to protect vital national interests, in as limited a manner as possible and only for as long as necessary, and only where every other credible option has been tried and failed.
Military force is inherently brutal and inherently deadly. It is a loaded gun. In deciding to use, a politician is pulling the trigger. It’s his and his government’s job to make sure it’s the right weapon aimed at the right target.
Mr. Cheney conflates the military half of that bargain, and how well the military does its job, with how well he does his. Naturally, since that absolves him of having pulled the trigger just because he had his finger on it.
The only problem I have with stopping the funding is that Little Boots and Darth have both shown themselves psychotic enough to let the troops run out of ALL supplies including food and ammo and leave them as sitting ducks over there just to be able to claim “See, it’s all the cowardly Dems fault and those (fill in the blanks) in Congress who caused this to happen.”
Actually, Barney is not for ‘legalizing’ it, he’s advocating ‘decriminalizing’ it, there is a difference between the two…!
Well, I know you are asking rhetorically, right?
And I know we would get some BS like “we wouldn’t want to endanger the troops they would serve with. It’d be like putting a bull’s eye on their backs” like they’d be doing anyone a favor by not serving, you know.
more puke.
I’m for mandatory
Very true! They’d even f*ck that up…! ;-)
OK, man. Sorry, man. *g*
They could try to say that, but Prince Harry served. That makes that argument moot.
That’s why the generals need to conduct their own Caine Mutiny. Please.
Dick Cheney treats our military as hired help.
That would certainly mellow a lot of ‘em out…! ;-)
Why do you think Drudge leaked his location?
So they can say “see?”.
But, point taken BW.
And the problem I have with that thought is the idea that we can get used to having Military Coups. NOT a good idea. IMNSVHO.
I couldn’t work it either, but I think that’s cuz I didn’t log in…I also wonder if Jackie Speier will lead a town hall meeting even though she is not elected yet!
Hmmm. good point.
I’m just so sick of this. So I think I’ve run out of anything constructive or insightful to say. GTG.
Peace for firepups and troops!!
How do you spell the word for the emotion I have regarding the Neocons? I don’t think such a word even exists that really gets at it.
I don’t think his behavior is hard to comprehend. he is an elitist self serving SOB who could care less about anyone else except his hunting buds and his drinking buds and his fucking bank balance. Totally consistent with someone who shows those traits.
“The president carries the biggest burden, obviously.”
The president carries no burden, for that you would need a conscience, Mr. Vice-President.
Bush treats his country like the hired help; one reason the two of them get along so well.
Today, when Bush regurgitated the line that those who have died in Iraq will not have died in vain, so he will keep the troops there, I remembered when we hit 3,000 sacrificed. The same was said about their sacrifice. We sacrificed a thousand more and destroyed the lives of thousands more wounded.
When will there be enough sacrifices? The sacrifices go on and on and on. I can only conclude that human sacrifice entertains Bush/Cheney and their supporters.
If you want to know why the MSM sucks big time there is an article on the 4000 threshold at the NYT.
http://www.nytimes.com/aponlin.....ref=slogin
The writer says at 3 different points that many more soldiers have been killed in other wars. The article begins:
and then lays the schmaltz on heavy repeating the not in vain quote again:
It is only after this that Reid and Pelosi are briefly quoted. Then more Bush. The only “outside” expert is the neocon Max Boot. Then finally Clinton and Obama are breifly quoted followed by a longer quote by Cheney. Another repetition of the more Americans have been killed in other wars and the article finishes.
Looks like the AP and the Times volunteered too like Cheney was saying at the head of this post, only they volunteered for propaganda duty.
One word: fuckingasshole
Isn’t it a crime to send the troops of the United States into harm’s way based on lies?…And then be flippant about it, and be flippant to the families who have lost their family members in that war, by saying that what they think doesn’t count….as if you believe you are getting away with the perfect crime???? Isn’t there a crime in there somewhere?
It’s never exactly been a secret that Vice President Cheney operates by his own rules and thinks he knows better than the American public. But yesterday, he made it official.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....tml?sub=AR
thanks for posting that. Sums up the rage a lot of us feel.
I did log in. Actually, registered!
Sorry, no crimes. Just ask Nancy. There’s not even a reason to look into things.
One would think so, huh? I mean so many lost lives and for what? I am simulatenously looking forward to but also dreading watching, Bush’s War, on PBS this evening.
Not surprisingly, FOX made no mention what so ever of the 4000 military deaths on TV or the main website until after Bush made his statement at today’s briefing.
MSNBC or CNN had a ticker thingy running saying that 4,000 is only 7% of the troops lost during Vietnam…or something to that effect this morning…
Oh, so it’s okay then.
Tom Toles nails it again…
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....inionsbox1
they hid that on our pbs at 3 am yesterday morning …
No matter what Bush and Cheney say the 4000 Americans dead in Iraq did die in vain. They died because Bush and Cheney didn’t care whether they died or not, just like neither of them cared whether they told the truth or not.
Amen.
Well, isn’t it a breach of the oath of office…Nancy!!!
a picture’s worth 4,000 words
Your willingness to keep tabs on Fox is commendable and quite a sacrifice.
Serious? Wait, why am I asking, of course your serious. I forgot for a moment that information, even when it is not favorable, would be freely aired.
This is amazing rationale. The Administration reports never mention the thousands who have serious wounds that altered their lives because of improved battlefield medical treatment.
It will be interesting to see Bush and Cheney’s polls next week. Oh, I forgot, sooo, we don’t matter.
your preaching to the choir. he should have been impeached years ago
I posted a comment earlier today as did someone else that 40 fuel tankers were destroyed yesterday in Northern Pakistan on their way to the American and NATO troops…destroyed!!! 40!!!
MSM…*crickets*
It wasn’t on FOX, I don’t watch FOX…it was either MSNBC or CNN, because I flip back and forth..
Isn’t that brilliant? I love that it’s McCain/Bush.
oh god that’s horrible. Sad and horrible.
RE previous thread: Richardson is on LKL on CNN in 10 minutes
I know, but it can’t be repeated enough…I could just move on to war crimes..
I miss having a media
I’m with you. Hell, I’d make them build their own prison (would be the first legitimate work they have ever done)
I meant that for Hugh @ 50
LOL
Bill Kristol - KO’s 2nd worst person in the world
McCain and Brit Humes 3rd worst persons in the world.
Actually, Hugh @ 58
I’m not drinking….yet.
They have not fessed up to lying.
Are the delusional. In denial?
They don’t admit mistakes EVER.
Manson hasn’t either.
they live in an alternate reality
Jane: This is old news–Darth said this yesterday…
Rawstory has it that the Pentagon has found no proof of a Sadaam plot to assassinate Bush’ father. There goes another pillar in Bush’s house of cards justifications.
Has anybody seen Bustedknuckles today?
No matter how hard this administration and their cohorts try to erase records, e-mails, destroy computers, their deeds are well recorded through many voices. We will speak and write of their deeds over and over.
…so how was the first day of school/classes?
Actually, the comparison between Manson’s justifications for his actions and the actions of those who “volunteered” to do his bidding are very similar to the justifications that Bush and Cheney use for their actions….think about it….eery if you look into it…
no..he’s been AWOl for a few days…He lives in Portland, OR, yes? Which other FDLers live there? Maybe they can look him up…
eerie.
As will the rest of the world. I wonder what high school history texts in, say, France, will look like ten years from now with regard to Bush/Cheney.
and can’t you just see big dick with his head shaved and a cross dug into his forehead, trying to give the scary eye to the jury?
Fairly certain I saw Bustedknuckles here earlier today.
Yup, I can…
okay, just gave a test, doing midterm grades right now
I’m worried because his niece was in the green zone during the rocket attack.
I never could figure this one out. It’s like an urban legend. It was put out there over and over, by the same cast of characters, the press picks up the rumor, unsubstantiated, and away we go.
W made it up.
Well, Cheney says that there is a clear purpose and and plan, so that must be so and we should simply trust. Only problem is that no one can say what that purpose or plan is exactly.
Let us assume that some national causes are worth dying for. OK, then we can do the heartless cost benefit analysis: Y lives lost / X gained from effort.
If ‘X gained’ is equal to zero or is negative, then additional lives lost to the war are a waste. I would never say that that the lives already lost are wasted or in vain. They died in the belief that they were doing their patriotic duty for a worthy cause, and that is worth something. The waste comes from the the soldiers’ betrayel by the leaders of the nation. But any additional lives lost if ‘X gained’ is zero or negative -that is a waste and a moral equivalent of homicide.
So, what is this ‘X gained’ we are gaining from continuing the war with this mystery goal and mystery plan? Some one needs to tell us asap. Otherwise it is murder.
So what is with this grown up dependable daddy CEO leadership we have? I thought they could do this kind of math. Maybe they have their own math that works out, but for some reason we are not worthy of hearing it.
a rather large blow up of that image is going up on our front lawn !
QuakerGirl - and they sure as hell are not going to count the 12 electrocuted by KBR
Isn’t that good news. Wait until they and their families see their legacy as recorded by history.
I’ve heard the number is much higher since the 4000 figure doesn’t count soldiers that die on the way to the hospital.
Fuck cheney. I hope that son of a bitch rots in hell.
I’m with you, tbsa.
Cheney. The undead, not alive guy. He just won’t go away.
When does finally leave us I will have one thing to say.
So.
Cheney volunteered to be vice-president. He isn’t entitled to our sympathy. The guys he had shipped to Iraq and Afghanistan, and their families, are.
I keep leaving letters and words out of my comments lately.
I just listened to Wes Clark’s interview and subsequent repudiation of Cheney’s assertions. His point, and well made, none of the “volunteers” volunteered for stop gap measures, which in my humble opinion should be made illegal via legislation.
It is gonna take a lot more than town halls to end this fucking mess, but it is a start.
“I keep leaving letters and words out of my comments lately.”
Try putting the bong down once in awhile. Works for me.
The incompetency exhibited by these chickenhawks is just staggering. Watching the Frontline episode on Bush’s War on how they fabricated the rationale for the war and how poorly they planned the aftermath was mind-numbing. There is a special circle in hell for Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Perle, Tenet, Feith, Libby, and the rest of this incompetent administration for callously sacrificing 4,000 “volunteers”, and countless other “collateral” deaths. RIP brave “volunteers”.
