The Darling Demaes – A Couple of Schizophrenics
On this beautiful Easter day, my schitzo-snarky brain has to ask, is it such a good idea to teach our kids to place all their eggs in one basket? Anyway, I thought this would be a good time to share a couple of new bands I’ve discovered during my musical Easter egg hunts in recent weeks. With the exception of The Darling Demaes above, the bands linked below are only available via MySpace.
From Doyelstown, Pennsylvania, a refreshing indie folk blend, Peasant.
From San Francisco, self described country, psychedelic, and folk, Moomaw.
From Duluth, Minnesota, folk and bluegrass, Trampled By Turtles.
Last but not least, nor really new, from Springfield, Missouri, an Ozark mountain favorite, folk rockers, Big Smith.
So shake off your straight jackets and tell me, what’s on your mind tonight?

ES!
even-ing ES
Hello everyone. I put together a jukebox full of Folk goodies.. Hope it’s not to much.
Eureka Springs!!!
am looking forward to heading out for Hong Kong later this week, possibly Thursday. I’m looking for tickets now. Am on assignment over there for a few days…Love dim sum, a specialty there…
have not listened yet but folks from Dalute suffer from brain-freeze!
Evening Eureka.
You just wanted to keep us busy while you ate or something?
Cool tunes!
evening
Oh TexB, I think Cassie, err, Snarkassandra would love Big Smith. I will send her the link later on tonight.
I saw Big Smith in Branson about two years ago while visiting my best friend who lives in Little Rock.
***Drool**** yer killin’ this Hillbilly, who is so far away from such tasty options.
I’ll bring you back some dim sum…*g* overnight UPS or DHL Express service….
Always a good show and everybody dances and sings. They were in Eureka Springs last week. We are one of their favorite places to play.
I’ll be spending some time in the “Trampled by Turtles” page, ES. They’re a hoot!
good night friends.
We definitely enjoyed the show.
hey, nite betsy
Good night, Betsy.
boa noite, betsy
Dugg your post, ES.
Nite Tex, sweet dreams and sound sleep
Thank you kind sir.
Found this in the NewsBox-
Brown, Sarkozy to urge banks to disclose write-offs
I wish Ian were here…
Sarkozy’s ex, Cecilia, just got hitched in NYC…
Buy me a jewel? *g* What is the assignment?
thanks y’all
hi eureka, you don’t know it, but you’re my soulmate, well, one of them……..explain later, dude.
have you discovered wolfgangsvault.com yet? of not, you will worship me for that information.
and furpeaceranch.com jorma kaukonen’s place…….hmmmmmmmmm blues…….all blues……
and i get to go there. it’s right down the road from here.
felix, are you still here? of so, i have a comment about glenwood springs that i posted the other day.
i’m soundin’ so cocky and soundin’ so right, cuz i finally got to express what pisses me off about the war/occupation on the 5 year thread……….so, if you love me, go read what i said, cuz it’s what i think is the greatest loss of the country, it’s art. it’s culture.
ok, eureka, take us to those heights that you manage to manifest from that lost land of arkansas…../s
oh it feels so good when you get to express the exact thing that matters to you, i got to do that on the last thread, thank you jane………….
that’s what this place used to be about, and i’m not above reminding people that that was the point of this place, and the rest of you can burn out eventually, or fuck off, whichever sounds more politically correct.
i know who you are.
yea, i’ve had a beer.
That randy fella has to have more out there waiting for suitors…
Good night, Texbetsy and anyone else off to hit the hay. dmac, if you’re here? Beautiful comment at the end of suin’s thread.
I like 3 out of the 3 groups I’ve listened to so far, ES.
Thanks for this, what a treat!
boa noite, pups
think i’ll go molest the hubby *g*
Good idea!
furpeaceranch.com is new to me. Thanks! I love Jorma.
Dagnabit.. I am out of beer.
Brown, Sarkozy, Bush, does anyone have a president who knows what the heck is going on?
It sounds a little like a move away from the US…
but like I said, I’d love Ian’s take.
to all-
and i didn’t mean to sound rude–one of those rare moments when you have an epiphany, and all else really doesn’t matter, and it’s fitting that it happened on easter………i spitted it out, about the arts and iraq, in a manner that was palitable, and that everyone should pay attention to that does art………
art is so taken for granted, and the affect on the culture of iraq is devastating.
and noone mentions it, ever.
that’s what i meant.
ok, radio silence.
cuz pauli girl beer has influenced my typing.;
dmac, I went back to siun’s thread and read your heartfelt comments. You make me proud.
Hey, ES — I read that your mayor hit back at Sally Kern today. Hurray for her!
the assignment?…interview some “dissident” Chinese officials about Tibet–for BBC World Service…Was in Lhasa in 2002, so know people in Tibet. BBC knows that…In fact, one of my colleagues in 2002 when I was teaching at Sichuan University in Chengdu was the one who introduced me to my now BBC boss…Chengdu isn’t that far from Lhasa…
I also have tons of friends in Hong Kong…
Please, has anyone seen Busted today?
boi noite…
You reminded us this earlier, and I’ve now been wondering all day…
thank you loo hoo, you are always in my heart.
wolfgangsvault.com
one word
layla
Wowie, Biodun! Good for you. Look forward to your reports. Do you feel safe?
you know he got hitched hisself in Europe–to the Italian model…who’s a fox…herself…(Jane would kill me if she knows I used this term…)
Why is that? Jane’s a fox!
Hey Teddy, you are on the tip! That’s news to me, but no surprise. I checked and it’s already on the front page of our local paper too. http://lovelycitizen.com/
safe? er, yeah. China’s safe these days…they love Americans over there. Not kidding…
Hey Eureka,
What’s on my mind tonight , actually for awhile, is how you’re managing the flood aftermath.
Hope things are dulling down to a small growl.
The initial onset is so spectacular that it’s almost an adventure. It’s the weeks afterward that are a bitch!!!!
Hope all is well.
i know she’s a fox–that’s why I’m so in love with her..*g*
A hard refresh for all will reveal the fixed comment. Thanks.
Is fox a negative term ? Bummer.
Suz is on vacation? (If so, she’s earned it!)
Can’t tell you how fortunate I am to be so close to the river, and yet high up on a mountain at the same time. The flood waters have long since disappeared in my neck of the woods. It’s all in east and southern Arkansas causing horrific damage now.
Well deserved is right!
Very big shoes…
eureka–i’m out of beer, too………right when i hit the flight zone…………
good food wil balance out the wings………
you in AR? or in CA? Eureka’s in Northern CA…
still wondering what happened to your email that disappeared in the toobz…
yeah mary at 44, you got it
I am in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.. Eureka, California, is one of my other favorite areas..)
Did you all see Barry to Barack?
It’s really a cool slideshow about Obama.
biodun–i sent it to your legitimate, as you said, email, but the last two days my server has been screwed up, so, have not tried again, knowing that.
That’s amazing. Thanks!
He is getting some really good run at times.
Did any of you just see the utter smackdown Michael Ware put on wingnut talker Martha Zoller, on CNN?
She was trying to say “Oh, things are better,” and Ware just sneered at her as another twinkie who takes a guided, guarded tour and then leaves, ala Ingraham and other wingnuts.
Michael Ware has been in Iraq all five years of the war and probably knows more than any correspondent and he doesn’t let DC spin or wingnuttery obscure the raw truth.
It was good TV.
Biodun,
Is FOX a bad word now? I’m of the generation that considered that not only a compliment, but as young women something to do on a slow Saturday night. Go fox-hunting. As young women something to BE – a fox.
Shit, I think my age is showing,…it’s SO not ” my day”….!
YEAH !!!
I have heard tell about it, but I have to go dig it out.
Ware has some perverse ideas about what “we” do from here, but I’ll give him credit – he’s been in the shit for the duration.
But at least Ware has the perspective of someone who’s been there, day after day. Martha Zoller did a “McCain” tour and thinks she knows something. God damn I hate wingnutters.
I don’t know if I WANT to have the country united if it means having to put up with dipshits like Zoller.
open hope at 66–as my now deceased brother said to me–
foxy lady
jimi
compliment, always.
I did not, ThatGuy. Is there a video of that? hee hee…
NewsBox-
McCarthyism remarks anger Democrats’ allies – The Boston Globe
Jeez! If Senator Obama wins the big job, there is going to be Hell to pay for stuff like this.
Agree. Foxy is a compliment! I remember when…
FOXY LADY!
I had it running live and rewound to watch it again on the DVR> To my knowledge, there is not, I haven’t set up my video box so I can’t get it into the computer, or I’d youtube it myself.
Thank ’s !!
I’d hate to see perfectly good terms be cast aside by some PC bullshit.
A fox is a fox is a fox….
Not just eye-candy, but an underlying spirit..
i think i’m goin’ to bed now–
eureka-my best regards, your eminence. sorry you’re out of beer, mee toooo, so, i’m eating blue diamond nut-crackers rice crackers and cheese and going to bed. i only eat when i am done drinking. p.s. don’t forget my comments on siun’s tread, i was able to articulate what i meant, which, as an artist, is a rare thing.
biodun-quit talkin’ smack. stop it. you don’t need to. spit it out, you can do it.
you’ll forgive me later.
I think we have a question to answer, I thought more about “re-uniting” the left and right in the US, and truthfully, I don’t think it’s possible any more. I’m going to begin looking into emigrating to New Zealand. I don’t really have enough skills, at least I don’t think so, but I don’t think I want to stay in the US any more. There are too many wingnuts and I’m sick of the lapdogs like that idiot Rick Sanchez on CNN and Tweety, Timmay, and all the rest.
I’d just as soon have the US be something I read about occasionally and be as isolated as possible from. New Zealand might just be far enough.
I think the US is about to fall, like when the Visigoths overran the Roman Empire.
…do what? Love Jane? Get her to love me back? Help me out here..*G*
not to worry…just kidding/playing/flirting around, you know, harmless fun…
openhope–i’m so glad you saw my point–
as i tell my friends–a thouroughbred doesn’t need to be told it’s a thouroughbred…….
it just knows………
Just worked my way through the CNN “More video” panel, no sign of the Ware interview with Raditz.
Germany, and she’s a woman …..
i think you mean leader, since Brown isn’t president.
another driveby, i have to be on the Vienna train in one hour …..
carry on pilgrims, i’ll try to catch up with you in some Austrian internet cafe.
You bet !!
And Jane’s a fox…!!
And I’m proud to stand behind her. I will always have her back.
If being repulsed by Chimpy were only enough…
biodun at 77– ”…do what? Love Jane? Get her to love me back? Help me out here..*G*
not to worry…just kidding/playing/flirting around, you know, harmless fun…”
the only thing keepin’ me from my very comfortable bed is this–
what i was tryin’ to say.
don’t get stuck in the present, biodun, embrace the future, and share it with your friends.
you are a person that shouldn’ t be left alone too long to stir in his own juices………you need the fuel of something, so, fly off and let us know what you find…….but, meanwhile, i was trying to get you to project and offer what you know to be true right now,…….that works , too………but it didn’t work, cuz you didn’t take the hint.
safe travels.
and i’ll try to iron out the email, i’ve never gotten international email……well, from israel, but that doesn’t count, cuz it’s kinda like america.
nite all, sweetest of dreams to you all.
I knew I was fuzzy on the presidential terminology, but I don’t know where I suggested gender one way or another..) *sigh* If only we could both discuss this in a Vienna coffee shop.
hmm…maybe we should meetup sometime..we might have lotsa things to talk about…
boa noite…
openhope at 81-=—yup, you got it girl…
i’m gonna sleep well tonight.
nite nite
G’nite dmac.
hiya, pups!
writing a kos post on the AK-AL house race. almost done, I hope…
biodun–i tried to email with my ramblings–memories of minneapolis, but the emails didn’t make it through, will try again after my server is cooperating, is down right now.
just have a safe trip, and be more of a writer than and editor, that’s all i’m sayin;
nite eureka, you’re my first fdl love.
sweet dreams fdl pups, i had a fine day today, i got to say what i wanted. happy easter.
Ah, just use New Zealand as a default position. I have Panama.
Is Costa Rica no longer “ex-pat” friendly?
Let us know when you publish.. we’ll recommend.
ET! Can’t wait.
indeed…Prof and Composer Edward Teller…an accomplished guy…
Yes, it is.
Almost wished our family didn’t love our country so much that we can’t migrate. We could financially, we could re-align our base.
But we can’t, because we’re Americans.
I don’t know how such a disaster can keep falling apart.. but todays Iraq news just keeps getting worse by the hour.
snip
Anbar: U.S. trophy for Iraq security losing its shine
snip
And every hour the death toll keeps rising.. up to 63 for the day so far.
so sorry , i forgot((((((((( (loo hoo))))))))))
outta here, my pillows and covers are really callin’ me…….
(eureka) just because….
Nite dmac, write me when your server is acting right!
Hey, guy! Costa Rica is entirely and wonderfully beautiful, with wonderful people. It is just not “with it” in terms of infrastructure yet. Lousy roads, less than lousy internet, and I just don’t want to give up the tubes. Panama is the hub of the Americas, doubling the width and depth of the canal as we speak. I’m so excited about Panama! Still have a piece of Costa Rica, but I don’t see living there in the next several years. **Visits are wonderful, though!***
I doubt you could find a more loving people on the planet than Costa Ricans. PuraVida.
come on, Biodun – “an accomplished guy….” I’m an accomplishing guy, like you.
Hugs and sweet dreams, dmac! Enjoy.
geeeesh, bed calling, but i scanned the comments, ’DO NOT SCAN AS YOU SIGN OFF’
newton–many people here own property in costa rica……
hocking college here has a relationship with the country, eco=tourism program.
known many who travel there, and own land there. they love it there.
nite
hey hey…composers are my heroes, no contest there, since I LOVE classical music!!!
and newton–forgot to add, friends of my parents are buying property there. and they are across the state, unrelated to the people i know here who have property.
nice place from all i have heard.
What about angry taxpayers! Like Meeeeee
dmac, I love Costa Rica! Did I piss you off? I’m just thinking reality. Don’t want to be without the internets!
OK, ES – listening to “Trouble” over at “Trampled by Turtles“…
I like this band!
Angry apparently doesn’t even go next door to how shareholders are feeling! I’ll get the article.
yeah, i saw that earlier..wanted to post that but didn’t…*g*
…not fair, since i get news feed all the time from BBC News here in Minneapolis on one of my workstations…BBC News (London Time as they call it) is 6 hours ahead of Minneapolis time-zone, so I’m ahead of the curve most of the time in the news cycle…
OK, truth in advertising, since I started this Costa Rica business
I’ve never been off the continent…
Here is is, Eureka. I’ll read the whole article right along with you.
As the Cheney plots:
Cheney Meets With Israeli Prime Minister
I’m all for holding stock, but really – angry stockholders?
Their votes and proxies put the now-enriched board in place, while the “commoners” whose pensions ride on the company’s solvency get flushed…
Enron times 30
Well, newtonusr, I was supposed to go read the NYT article. But I see your comment! What business do you have in Costa Rica?
so here’s one tidbit from BBC:
Trouble is an addicting song.. I must have listened to it half a dozen times today.
Business? None.
But between Florence and Costa Rica, I can’t hear enough about where to visit first.
But it’s going to be Florence…
here’s another tidbit from BBC:
to date in 2008, the agency adds.
Well… as I try to find the resistance….to explain the facts……
What’s an over-informed citizen to do ????
You know ?
What’s a homeschool mom to do ?
How the fuck can an over-informed parent teach the truth as they’ve been able to digest it [ given the truth is a non-entity in our main media ]and still present a shiny image of the United State of America?
And ES…
Moomaw
February.
I’ve heard something like this before somewhere…
I suspect within a few days we will see several older deaths added to the count of US soldiers killed in Iraq.. It’s what the DOD does in order to delay landmark numbers like the 4000 mark.
…pending notification of kin.
Likely they will either wait for the next celebrity meltdown and slip it in, or Friday late.
Sounds sort of like Donovan.
night gang…have to get up in two hours…to start my own special time-zone…
Our small community is lucky to have the friendship of some young soldiers from the IVAW. Actually, we have the relationships because we sought out young vets in our community project.
They are SO much braver than me. They are SO much more patriots then I could be in these horrific times.
Not because they’re stronger, but because they know more about what’s really going on.
When they inform me, as they will, because MY specialty is arranging ” time-outs”, time to be with family…..
When they tell mr what they need to survive in OUR world, I’m going to be there. I’m going to help make that happen.
Yeah, and some very early Byrds tracks.
I heard this sound from over my back fence when I lived near a city park that featured “hippie bands” in the late 60’s and 70’s.
“The Backyard Mama’s” come to mind.
Such a special thing you do.. Thank you openhope.
Watch “The Crucible” with your kid(s). Talk about what was going on at the time Arthur Miller wrote it, and so on. Bad times have come before, and will again.
I think it’s possible to love one’s country and still have a very critical, factual view of it.
Nice to know the music of the flower children still inspires some of the new generation.
For anyone experiencing duplicate comments, a hard refresh will solve it.
My american literature teacher in 10th grade made a point of studing Miller’s The Crucible in detail. I’m glad he did, now.
Was over looking at huffington a little while ago and ran across the video. it can be found at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/03…..92987.html
Hitting the wall here.. Think I will call it a night..
Be well firepups.. share the music
nite eureka
Well then, why no link?
Beautiful. Thank you, Margot.
Oh, it’s this band – Moomaw, from Eureka’s Smörgåsbord of music in the post…
I was listening to “February”
Yo, been there ,done that,
My kids were pictured in the anti-war pictures in our local non- media.
Education is a media event .If you believe really, believe in the the United States of America then you know we are in the same exact situation we were in during the original Revolution.
My kids were raised on Kenneth Robert’s historical novels of American history. As was I. Because my parents were basically socialists stuck in an ” Apollo World”. My father wrote the technical manuals for the projects.
Talk about a childhood full of ” Spooks “…!!!
No wonder I’m a protagonist.
ES that was good news to my ears
The websites with the foks were nice and “Don’t call me trash” was a blast with a knuckle sandwich. Nice variety definently not “To Much”. Seems like the 60’s might be making a come back. Humanist music if I may say with fun tossed in. Somethin fresh anyway.
openhope, could you please provide some links to your comment? thanks.
Just put my AK-AL race post up at DailyKos, pups…
Well now, I would have to be a savvy computer person to provide links with my comments. But, sadly no, I’m stuck in dial-up land.
Go to IVAW.org for our most wonderful young people.
Or Courage to Resist.org. for our most wonderful young people.
Or anti-war.org. for our most wonderful citizens.
Our community reached out to the IVAW soldiers to come and meet us. They came. We stand together now.
Oh, for heaven’s sake, openhope, lots of people here are on dial-up. Bet they’d help.
Sorry, but I have no expertise.
From the Alaska Report piece:
Some Governor you got there, ET. She does go toe-to-toe.
And are we to assume that Ruedrich was able to stay on despite his “problems” because the Goopers run (ran?) the show up there?
Nice piece on Parnell, and the monkey wrench he threw into the AK GOP.
There’s a “linking tutorial” that someone was circulating recently. I’ll see if I can dig it out.
And we can walk you through it, hope.
But it’s openhope. I’m not having a problem. Since they put American parts in my HP laptop, it’s working properly. The parts made in China apparently were inferior.
yes, Loo Hoo, I got that…
Now that edit is gone (clears throat), however, fixin’ mistaken quotes is in the wind.
Which parts were faulty? I have a run of clients with bad hard disks in their laptops, and the drives have all been of the same manufacturer – 4 of them in the last 2 months or so.
4,000……..
I hate this goddamn fucking war!
10-4 ET
nite all
