BTW On the Obama passport issue…why would a firm whose sole job is to print-up and send passports have the access to the “passport file”? Wouldn’t they only, legitimately, have information that is contained on the actual passport? One’s SS#, and even permanent address is not actually ON the passport…unless it is encrypted.

So what is in the encrypted strip? Shouldn’t we be told what information might be accessed by foreign gov’ts that have scanners, or the prying eyes of contract companies, or people that have those bar code readers?

And why should any contractor have access to the complete file, shouldn’t information about visa applications and travel to other countries, and movements on expired passports, be firewalled. The information on the passport itself should be all that is accessible to the contractor.

Otherwise there is room for tremendous mischief and abuse. Wish the names of those fired were released.

Here’s the Financial Contributions of the CEO of Stanley, Inc.

The Associated Press later identified Stanley, Inc. as the Virginia-based contractor whose two employees were terminated. One prescient blogger who guessed correctly that Stanley was the contractor in question noted that its CEO is a GOP donor:
…[O]ne thing that would add to the appearance of impropriety is that CEO Nolan has, according to the Open Secrets database, been a campaign contributor to Sen. Joe Lieberman, a leading supporter of Obama’s Republican adversary John McCain. In March 2005 Nolan gave $1,000 to Lieberman’s reelection campaign.

The NBC News ‘Deep Background’ blog has more on Stanley, Inc.

Passport scandal leads to Virginia contractor, Stanley 21 Mar 2008 Two of the government contractors who allegedly took a peek at Sen. Barack Obama’s passport records worked for a Virginia-based firm called Stanley, Inc., according to U.S. government officials with knowledge of the State Department passport controversy. Stanley, Inc., is headquartered in Arlington, Va. The State Department awarded it a contract for $164 million in 2006. The contract called for Stanley to print and mail millions of new U.S. passports.

2 Fired in Passport Case With Va. Firm 21 Mar 2008 The Associated Press has learned [CLG reported it first] that the two contractors fired for snooping into Barack Obama’s passport records worked for a Virginia-based company called Stanley Inc. Earlier this week, the 3,500-person company won a five-year, $570-million contract to support passport services at the State Department.

Stanley Awarded $570 Million Contract to Continue Support of Passport Program –Over 15-Year History of Providing Passport Services Continues 17 Mar 2008 Stanley, Inc., a leading provider of systems integration and professional services to the U.S. federal government, today announced that it was awarded a five-year, $570 million contract to continue support of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Consular Affairs/Passport Services Directorate. Services include production, operational and business process support training, procurement, administration and evaluation of critical supplies, and facilities management support at the four Passport Centers and 14 Passport Agencies nationwide along with the Headquarters’ support offices.

What does Stanley do for the Government? (justiceatstanley.org) All of Stanley’s revenue (sales) comes from contracting with various agencies within the federal government. As of March 31, 2007, Stanley had two-hundred contracts with forty federal agencies, including Defense, State, Homeland Security, Health & Human Services, Treasury, NASA, and Justice. The Department of Defense is Stanley’s largest customer overall, but its single biggest contract is with the State Department for the provision of passport processing and support services.

This doesn’t sound simply like a “curiosity…they peeked” thing. It sounds as if they had to make a volitional effort to penetrate into the files.

George W. Bush has kept his passport files secret for decades. He wouldn’t reveal the fact that he flew into Central America in the mid-1970’s using his suspended Air Force flying license to pick-up and deliver “specialty horticultural products”. He has successfully blocked any curiosity into this, or his trip to the Far East. This was done so successfully that the myth that Bush had never travelled abroad until he was governor was perpetuated and fostered.

OT-Blackwater also has Greystone.

Unlike Blackwater, Greystone has managed to stay almost entirely out of public view, and it remains a mystery even to industry insiders. Doug Brooks, president of the International Peace Operations Association, a trade group of which Greystone was a member until late last year, couldn’t say what the company does. (Blackwater pulled out of the group last October after the ipoa launched an investigation into its conduct; Greystone followed suit in November.) Neither could R.J. Hillhouse, a political scientist and private-security expert who follows the industry closely. Even a spokesman for the State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security, which has issued contracts to Blackwater on which Greystone works as a subcontractor, admits he has never heard of the company.

Despite—or perhaps because of—its close-to-the-vest MO, the company has built up a certain mystique. One contractor we spoke to said he was present when Greystone managers arrived to claim their office space at Blackwater’s Baghdad headquarters. They were a different breed from the “yee-haw cowboys” that filled Blackwater’s ranks, and their tattoos indicated backgrounds in elite military units like Marine Recon, the Navy seals, and the Green Berets. “They didn’t talk to the other Americans,” he said, let alone foreigners. “They had different bodies, different mentalities, and used different language. They had a different professional attitude.”

After 8 years of Bush hacking the English Language to bits, no one will make fun of you

Yeah, lowest common denominator. I wouldn’t mind somebody laughing at me that much. However, i’m sure it irks a few to bits, I never use a spellcheck, in fact, I don’t even have one.

wobbly at 103-i eat nuts and fruit when i feel like that……

did you get the recipe i left you a few days ago?

was from when i used to eat raw foods.

raw banana pie–

bananas, mashed

little bit of rice milk (liquid)

crust is finely chopped dates or figs and finely chopped nuts

put date mixture in pie plate or dish, moosh it across bottom and up the sides, pat it down FIRMLY.

pour in bananas

freeze

cut when half-frozen.

really gotta lean on it hard to cut through the crust.

if you use oils, oil the bottom of the dish.

On Yahoo

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi slammed Chinese “oppression” in Tibet on Friday as thousands of Tibetan exiles cheered her arrival in this Indian hill town to meet the Dalai Lama

Why can’t she consistently say anything newsworthy about Bush/Cheney here?
