I know of a disbarred lawyer here in Phoenix who kited checks, co-mingled money, in fact, used her client’s trust account money as her own personal piggy bank. Her offenses included many counts of fraud and misappropriation of funds. But she is currently working in some capacity for some major corporation here in Phoenix (I can’t remember which one.) I believe she oversees contracts for their legality. She does not necessarily do the work of an attorney, per se, but legal assistants of all kinds do not have law degrees and they can still do research, etc.

Given the record of the Bush administration why would any conservative think tank want a Bushie working for them except to get access? Accesss he gained by by not ratting out his bosses.
After all who would want to hire a Bushie to accomplish anything let alone come up with a plan.
The Bush administration has failed to come up with a plan let alone get Ossama, Win the war in Iraq, lower gas prices, save the economy, save Bear Stearns, leave more kids left behind etc.

When I read the papers this morning on LibbyBoy’s disbarment, I reflected on other possibilities that would reward him. I’m glad to see he’s been disgraced, publicly.
So, if he indeed has been invited to joint the Hudson Institute (much like Manhattan Institute, AEI and other NeoCon think(less) tanks, he can be a consultant using his legal background in some other capacity other than with the legal department.

The Hudson Institute is quite a piece of work. Here is their Mission Statement:

Hudson Institute is a non-partisan policy research organization dedicated to innovative research and analysis that promotes global security, prosperity, and freedom.

Try and make sense out of that Mission Statement. We call such statements gobbligook. The Hudson Institute has no purpose. I think that is very stranger. But their Mission statement sounds a little like a Purpose Statement so if that’s the case, what’s their mission? Damned if I can figure it out.

Here, take a stab at it. It reminds me of all those dotcom companies with the quasi purposes and missions that said nothing. Why don’t they just say their purpose is to promote NeoCon ideology so there is clarity? Ha! Never from NeoCons.

Suspensions are for a term of years. Disbarments are usually permanent, though is some extraordinary circumstances, I believe some individuals have been permitted to re-apply.

The best example is someone who has a chemical dependency problem, screws up their fiduciary responsibilities, get disbarred and later gets clean and sober and re-applies.

The duration and severity of the penalty of disbarment depends on which Court/Bar it is that is handing it down. In some states, it is effectively a suspension of at least X years (X varying between states, too), while in other states it is a permanent “barred for life” penalty.
A suspension carries within it the idea that the attorney is still an attorney, and may apply to reactivate their license at some future date (after the end of the suspension). A disbarment, OTOH, strips the attorney of his/her status as such.

The “interesting” aspect comes up in the whole area of reciprocal discipline. If an attorney were to be admitted in 2 jurisdictions, one “A” which has a “death penalty” disbarment and the other “B” not, and is disbarred in “B” for conduct in “B”, it is entirely conceivable (and, IIRC, has happened) that even though his conduct in “B” might not have earned him the death penalty disbarment in “A”, by virtue of reciprocal discipline “A” would give him a disbarment and the career death penalty, which could then be translated into a similar career death penalty in “B”. All that through reciprocity.

IIRC, Scooter’s admitted in Pa. and was in DC. I don’t know whether Pa. has a death penalty disbarment, but I think they might.

So, I think we can add Scooter’s to the list of “Banned for Life Action Figures”.
