What we’re seeing here from John McCain is the beginning stages of early onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Let’s keep an eye on its progression over this year.

I know, we’re not supposed to make this particular attack.

But what about option 4 — he forgot. After all, people forget things. Americans forget things. Even great Americans forget things. And ahem, octogenarian Americans forget more things.

No, no, he’s not old! I mean, there’s nothing wrong with being old. Really really old. That’s normal. Heck, most presidents have to keep their pills in boxes with the days of the week on them so they don’t forget. To take their pills. Their many, many pills.

But in many ways, he’s still pretty hearty. For his age. I mean, not that his age matters, and he hardly has any liver spots for a guy that old. No, he can still remember every vivid detail of all his old stories. I’ve heard him tell them. And then tell them again. In the course of the same conversation. Sometimes just a few minutes after he told it the first time. But that doesn’t happen often. Yet.

Really, as the public ages, it’s only natural that our Presidents would be older too. It’s only natural that we’d have our second president in a couple decades to suffer Alzheimer’s while he’s in office. That’s not a bad thing. In fact, people who say I’m attacking McCain need to look in the mirror. Maybe they just have a problem with old, forgetful people who can’t seem to adapt to the world around them.
