Dire Straits – Water of Love
The greater metro area of Eureka Springs, AR (Population 2278) received 11 inches of flooding rains yesterday. So it’s been a day filled with wet barefoot walks and afternoon rescue missions on the roaring Kings River below my house. Some kayakers, like yours truly, will never learn.
What’s on your mind tonight?

Hiya!
eureka!
That can’t be possible
ohmystars, eurkea, that is a lot of rain. were you rescuing folks with your kayak?
Two threads ago, we were relating our famous person encounters. Not sure that can be topped on the same day (meaning period of time when one is awake, not a literal day, as it is already tomorrow here on the East Coast), but we’ll give it a try.
ES!
Sister, can you spare a dry towel? *g*
Suz!
This story of Clinton’s Capitol Hill Bible study group really got me thinking, I feel that it is the final piece of the puzzle in understanding her contradictions.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…..92361.html
Well I tried.
got a fresh batch, still warm from the dryer for ya es.
i’m gonna call it a night and get some reading done. but before i go, i wanted to leave you an interesting link that might explain why Wright’s view of the gov’t infecting its own people with a disease (AIDS). As the gov’t has done this before and the black community was the guinea pig for 40 years, it is understandable why some would feel the same way as Wright (mind you, i’m not validating or invalidating his statement)
were folks out on the river in that rain or was it from the flooding?
g’nite wobbly
Well, I’ve never had a first response. Guidance?
i was reading that earlier and creepy isn’t strong enough word. a book is set for publishing in may entitled, the family.
but it is a good explanation as to why she and her camp have been quiet on the whole wright thing
doing a drive thru *g* Seems like my work hours have shifted nightward again the last few months, sure cuts into commenting time. *ndfg waves to all the pups*
ooooh, one of my favorite DS songs! Thanks.
I was just thinking about how much I revile Dick Cheney. I recall that I posted a cynical reply to someone a while back who was bemoaning the war etc as all soulfilled human beings would. My reply was that Cheney would only say: so?
I truly despise everything he stands for.
So I’m thankful that I have a place to express those feelings and I going to take Water of Love to rock me to sleep tonight.
Peace pups, dosido.
Evening ES, I’m looking at google earth, trying to find the king river in ES, can you help out ?
or it could all be an R smear
hi/g’nite ndfg
Yeah. For me it’s like the final piece of the puzzle. I’ll be so glad when it’s over.
g’nite dosido
just a driveby, folks. work is crushing these days, ’specially for we guys of a certain age.
besure and checkout Glenn’s post about the latest ABC News sleaze. he links to Brian Ross’s
email address. take a few minutes and go over there and send Brain a love letter. he needs
our attention. carry on pilgrims. i gotta get down to the office.
I think this fellow was out trying to save lost canoes. I just check a few other AR blogs and it’s really bad in a lot of places.. Casualties and missing persons. Some say the water is higher than the enormous floods of ‘82. The Kings River is a half a mile wide were normally I can throw a rock across it.
anyone know the author very well? due diligence on this story? creeps me out too but want to wait to see what develops.
Yes, person on Wash Journal a day or so ago drew that link. So important to both know history & put yourself in the other person’s shoes.
But that applies to Wright too. He had some responsibility for trying to tell how whites looked at it instead of just rabble rousing. The point is to create understanding, not tio rally the troops in the interest of short run accomplishments.
JMO
We all live in our own worlds and I won’t fault Wright on that. Just disappointed that he never considered that his words would have wider reach, in which case he might have expressed himself differently.
Liked how Obama is able to see different sides & articulate them.
Don’t necessarily think that will translate into accomplishments, but it’s a start.
Carroll County.. NW corner ..two counties east.
nite.
risking his life for property? those are the ones who make the most mistakes and cause the most misery when being rescued. risk life to save life – not risk life to save property.
ES..11 inches? Was the Crescent Hotel damaged? Eureka Springs is all hills, where is the bottom of the drainage? Sounds like it might be close to your house.
Near Elk ranch, route 262?
exactly, it needs to be vetted – who is publishing, who wrote, what is their history (regenery press, wingnut welfare queen, RNC pioneer are the kinda of questions and suspected answers that i come up with immediately)
No, it is one of those pieces of information that inter-relates with all of the other pieces to well. It gives insight into her personality and actions as Senator and presidential candidate. I don’t feel that the quasi-Nazi threads are relevant after so much time, but it shows a connection to the consrvatives and neocons and how the conversation between her and them is conducted.
Think that means you’re co-dependent with the front pager, but you must confer with ES to determine the Emily Post aspect. You know, manners in this new medium are pretty fluid.
sorry, 62
could be, we’ll have to see what turns up
nite
instead of devoting time and energy into a smear of a d candidate, i choose to focus on making sure the r candidate does not get the win.
Crescent is on a hilltop, so it should be in good shape. I haven’t been to town yet. White River and Kings are the bottom around here. I wonder if it was enough rain to flood over Beaver Dam.. That’s rare but fantastic viewing. Beaver Dam is over 1100 feet, iirc.
Elk Ranch, is the western side of the county. near beaver lake. I am about 20 miles east and a couple miles south of ER.
Love Eureka Springs, used to spend a lot of time there as a kid, family owned some property and boats on the Lake of the Ozarks and we’d venture down there a lot … think it’s the basis of my love with the french quarter.
hey Eureka Springs!!!
am here, to respect your thread brother… someone else might think am here to diss you…
OK, RGB, mea culpa…am really asking for it tonite ain’t I? I’ll quit while am ahead…
i agree but if anything it certainly shows (at least in part) why there is a distrust of the gov’t (add lynchings, etc. and i can certainly understand the hurt, distrust and anger of that generation)
” i choose to focus on making sure the r candidate does not get the win.”
In the spirit of that remark, I would just point out that John McCain supports torture of human beings by the United States of America.
Good nite, folks.
Follow 62, through Eureka Sprs. and it will cross the Kings about five miles east. Share a link if you find a good view please.
g’nite neuro
me too
Sounds good to me. But I am completely incapable of seeing how someone could vote for McShame. I’m going to Savannah with someone whose choices are: Hillary, McCain, Obama. So I’ll have plenty of time to probe that issue. I suspect he hasn’t vetted McCain as thoroughly as some of the posts have here, so I’ll be curious if I have acquired enuf info to convince him. He’s hyperrational, like me.
Then there was the flood of ‘27..a little before my time:
link
I tend to disregard HuffPo with regard to Hillary. (Same as I disregard Taylor Marsh with regard to Obama.) My private joke is to see (every time I click there) how unflattering a picture they can have of Hillary in the headline. Arianna is jealous.
Has anyone else noticed that the headlines at HuffPo rarely have much to do with the story? Any story. Really poor press, imo.
i worry about those so wrapped up in their hatred of hrc that they would vote for anyone, even st john the torturer, rather than her.
i honestly can’t see the goldwater/rockafeller repubs voting for him … he’s got no business sense at all and has admited as much
so good to see you, ndfg;)
And if you consider the condition of the inner cities (read Juan Cole today about Detroit), it not just earlier generations. Today’s middle aged black adults lived in & saw the Bronx when Jimmy Carter did his photo op there at the absolute bottom. It’s still very much with us. Maybe not quite as bad, but certainly not good.
Hi, Steve-AR! Have you been gone for a while, or have we just been on opposite threads?
hey there—
you started something ’bout Twin Cities FDL studs.Just kidding!!!
Steve, were you in Little Rock in the late 70’s when we got 13″ in a single morning? Now that was a flood!
Well, I can understand that, but don’t in any way feel that our remaining candidates are of equal standing. Turnabout is fair play, but I don’t think this is the type of story that will gain traction outside of the blogosphere anyway. I don’t put much stock in PPP( D) polls either. For Obama supporters it has been an interesting storm but we are still standing and strong as ever. In no way do we feel that the poison pill offered by the opponent’s impossible ascendancy is any danger.
I think this story is of huge importance to the progressive blogosphere.
But I’ll calm down, I’m so ashamed of being banned by the MyDD playpen.
That would be on the plains, closer to Berryville. Only way I can link this, from what I can see is through email. I’ll try to work this out.
And the other way also..The GF has obliquely asked around at work and the “boomer” women are really pissed and say they will vote for McCain. I am watching the DNC in a slow motion train wreck and it is giving me stomach pains.
I’ve heard the same thing the GF has … and it’s more of a circular firing squad
Ah, but you describe my friend to a T. He is historically a R, family owned mfg bus. 82 years old. He simply thinks Obama’s too naive to run the country. I share his opinion on that. However, what I have learned in the last couple of days is that McCain knows nothing. That’s what I hope to convey.
No..late ‘81.just in time for Bill’s second go at being Governor and Hillary’s dad having chest pain.
You probably cannot tell, but the interesting thing about the Kings is it runs due north.
Oh,yes. Not unlike the basic premise behind the Army Corps of Engineers.
” Nature is NOT going to fucking dominate ME .”
Love the song, though I can only listen to it from memory…!!
Dial-up teaches us that patience is a virtue. Dial-up teaches us that we don’t need intellectual candy. Or awesome media on the March 19th events.
Well good luck … i share the opinion too, i keep telling myself no more rightwing appointments to the supreme court and muddle forward.
as long as you don’t engage in personal attacks on fellow comments, no assassination fantasies or wishes for any kind of death to anyone, no walking into jane’s place and wiping the dogshit off your boots on her drapes kinda stuff and you should be fine.
civil discourse is encouraged – emphasis on civil.
I know this comes from a biased source, but I seriously feel that the Clinton supporters will get over it. I seriously doubt that the Obama supporters will, if denied the nomination with the pledged delegate lead.
But politics ain’t beanball, as HRC has demonstrated quite effectively from a position of weakness.
jumped back in to drop the original link to the huffpo story on Hillary over at mother jones
Understood that it is still a problem but i was referring to Wright’s generation and as to why the mistrust and anger are still there, that was all (honest) *g*
Anyways, it looks to be real nice terrain all around, can’t link it though. Good luck with the floods, keep dry.
Safe wishes, ES.
What’s important to your girlfriend’s co-workers that might be threatened by a McCain win?
Do they have grandchildren that would possibly go to war?
Do they have children/grandchildren who don’t have health care, because we’re at war, endless war?
Which candidate is more likely to put their kids in a horrible war?
Which one is more likely to use money for helping get affordable medical care and not try to mess with their SS?
I think your point has been made, several times tonight in fact.
And I would hazard to you that Senator Clinton’s supporters skin thickness isn’t the measure of whether repeated postings of the same link is germane.
We got your drift.
That is unusual, the only other that I can think of is the Red River in Mn that drains into Canada.
I did not engage in personal attacks. I did not use bad language. I did not receive an email as to the fact that I was banned or to the reason I was banned. I did not receive a reply to my email inquiring as to the reason of the banning.
Like I said, it’s a playpen, but they can’t throw the bad children out of it fast enough to keep up with the anti-HRC posts.
Thanks to you both.
See 75.
IIRC, the White, Kings, and Buffalo all begin on Mount Magazine.
I agree, McCain will take the country over the cliff.
Like I said, we got your point, several times tonight.
There are few fools here. We all read pretty well.
i was not talking about over mydd and how they do things there – we discourage bashing other blogs policies here- i was talking about how the lake likes things here.
Dont think it’ll be that diffucult. He voted for Clinton twice, not sure about Gore v. Bush but am sure he voted for Kerrey in 04. He’s a military history nut, so has affinity for McCain from that POV. But when I tell him about McCain’s narrowly focused military tactical approach to foreign policy, McCain’s bomb bomb bomb Iran, McCain’s five crashed U.S. planes & history of acting out, don’t think I’ll have a hard time to convince him to vote for anyone but. And that’s before we even get to the economic issues, like McCain thinks spending $100+ billion per year in Iraq is just fine as long as no US soldiers get killed. My friend is a big believer in spending on infrastructure, especially trains (esp freight) for economic efficiency, and that just ain’t on the R agenda.
Yes, I know.
Did anyone see the Martha Radditz interview with Cheney today? A snippet was on ABC news world reports tonight and really…I had to immediately shut off the tube before I blew a gasket.
wow, I drove thru Eureka Springs once, back in 1987
well, twice, actually, coming and going, as it was (Granddaddy lived near Bergman)
the Ozarks are great, the scenery is beautiful, but your weather sucks
I flew outta Springfield Missouri once (and BOY were my arms tired), the sky was clear, there was no wind, and it was 17 degrees, at noon. Arrived at SFO at 5 pm, it was cloudy, raining, and 64 degrees outside
I’ll never leave Cali againjust wanted to say HIGH
and I hope things get better for you
if not, it was about 75 degrees and SUNNY today in my part of Cali, jus sayin, is all
well, good luck, i’m off for the night
Plenty of rivers run north. Nile is best know. Right on my property line is Wallkill, a tributary of the Hudson. Ditto Roundout creek. St Lawrence. You get the drift.
I have been out drinking rum and coke and other ignighted thangs so I cannot claim to be sober or unbiased but . . . . . what was I talking about . . .oh yea… I loves me some Nweton er whatevah
hi spidey
It’s generally fairly high humidity around these parts, but I do like the fact all four seasons are about three months in duration.
Eel in CA?
Dearest Mary – what I wouldn’t give to feel like that right now!
Kisses back!
hey mary (laughing)
Ugh. ABC was on a particularly bad roll today.
hey kirk
I am self employed and can call in “I ain’t coming ta work taday cause I don’t wanna.” That is why I am poor.
i’m proud to say i have blocked ABC on my comcast cable box since the spocko’s brain mess. i checked and comcast does in fact report back statistics indicating to each channel owner how many households block via parental controls.
geez…I thought Brian Ross had more class than that…but did anyone see that clip of cheney flipping off Martha Radditz ’s question? It must be on youtube, you gotta see it.
his ’so and no’ comment? saw it on KO tonight, spidey
Way cool. How do I block the religious channels & report back. Sounds delicious.
Good to know. Wish I was using a cable box.
**Applause** Now if we could just elect enough congress critters with the cahones to help us not be forced to pay for those we choose not to watch.
i was down paying my bill and just innocently happened to ask ‘if i block all abc and disney and espn channels is it reported back to abc (who owes em) – clerk said yes, all parental control blocks are reported back to the channels.
i happy danced out of the office.
You are right..foot meet mouth..I have been on the Nile several times, watching the boat fight the current going South.
cheney is aggressively arrogant…can’t wait to see him walk out the door…if indeed he can still walk by then
Good for you. Hopefully the next administration will install an FCC that forces ala carte service.
I suspect there’s some sort of Northerm Hemisphere cultural bias going on against northbound rivers. Suspect that if you catalogued rivers by size & direction, no pattern would emerge. (Amazon runs east.) But it’s just a thought.
Here’s a clip of that:
http://rawstory.com/news/2008/….._0319.html
Without a re-vote in Michigan and Florida, and perhaps his speech yesterday in Philadelphia, it looks like it’s over for Hillary. I was emailing a friend of mine that Obama has a vision of moving forward as a country which means dealing with the issue of race that he spoke eloquently about in his speech yesterday. The question is is the country ready to move forward? Is it “our time” as he says in his stump speeches? If the answer is “yes,” to both questions, then I believe he will be the 44th President of the United States. But if the answer is “no,” then he won’t. Also, if not, then I think we’ll have a transformational president in 2012 and by then the country will be shaken to its foundations.
I absolutely should have mentioned it’s unusual in North America. SOrry, I am a bit waterlogged
Now don’t go inviting everyone to move here to California :>)
outta staters can be invited – but only if they are cash buyers for my place (laughing)
OK I give special dispensation for Suz’s place selling to an outsider!
You are right, but 4 years is such a long time. I really believe that the DLC is going to be forced to yield and allow the party to flourish. How they can’t get out of their 2002-2004 mindset is a mystery. The overriding factor is the pain in the country now. I can’t imagine that many people voting against self-interest in the current climate. I have full faith in Obama’s ability to heal the wounds of the current crisis as well. Most HRC supporters I meet outside of blogs would be content with Obama agter the fight is over and say so. Many of Obama people I meet outside of the blogs promise either to leave the ballot blank or write-in his name unless he were to lose the pledged delegate vote. If things are left until 2012 the shift of both the party and the country would be that much more enormous. But it’s 4 more years of pain.
the old bumper sticker:
Imagine living in Oregon!
Evening nahant
Hi Newt how ya doing tonight?? Ya couldn’t get me to move to Oregon for anything…. not with all that Oregon Sunshine most of the year. Besides they get snow on the ground there. Two of my kids live up in Portland so I have a good idea most of the time as to just how much rain they really get :>(… I like to see the Sun:>)
good thing i like rain since i’m thinking nor oregon or so washington
My friends in Oregon host CA friends frequently.
The neighbors and townfolk can’t wait for us to GTFO, fearing we’ll love it and migrate.
Don’t worry Suz the rain will just roll off of you just like off a duck’s back….
ES, I’m so sorry you’re having flooding. And I apologize for not mentioning it earlier. I’m afraid I got distracted.
judas forking priest – an hour and a half later and no one has dugg this post?
Cripes!!! OT
We spent the day in Seattle protesting the 5th year anniversay of the war the United States of America waged illegally on the nation of Iraq. We stood at the offices of our local media. We stood at a hot recruiter station.
Top stories ? 80 year old woman murdered
We have 2 major local channels, Kiro 7 and Komo 4.
Both lead into ” event ” days with bullshit top stories. However, Kiro 4 adds another element to the story. They cover the protests in a 3 minute story. They actually mention the cost of the war, profile the issues in testamonials and almost show the intensity of convictions of the participants [ though sensational death got a much bigger time slot].
Kiro 5, on the other hand, skims over the nasty rabble and goes straight to an unknown returning veteran’s opinion of the non-supportive protesters.
I give them credit for showing his young wife breast feeding their baby on TV. [ Never thought that our society would accept THAT as a family value !
I had to hid my babies under a huge scarf to avoid offending America.]
So this obviously -shocked young man has to be the spokesman for the pro-war effort ?
Will they be there to help when the shit hits the fan during the trying 2-3 year old toddler years ? When the most stable adult finally gets it that child abuse is one anger moment away ? Who will be there then ?
We need to support these young people. We need to remember that there is no slogan big enough to shelter the hard times. Only community can do that.
*hangs head in shame…*
DUGG Suz.
how many people were there openhope?
http://www.reuters.com/article…..8420080320
Over half were in San Fran, alone… What is it with them…? Bwhahaha…
wonder if kirk got arrested or had to provide medical care to wounded protesters…
It was sadly few. Though people were pulling shifts at the inner city recruiting station, and the majority of military age, it was dismal. The protest at the media plaza was barely a blimp. The gathering of all the diverse protests was maybe a few hundred.
To slide into old timey language…fuck me to tears!!!!!!
On the bright side, none of us would have NOT been there. And our youths met up with other impassioned youths. So we build bridges, just much slower than I anticipated.
BTW, don’t lose hope for 2008, that speech will work, I think he can take Pennsylvania, actually, given the time involved. North Carolina is not a problem, and Indiana will be one nasty surprise for HRC.
oh that so forking sucks – and building bridges is a good thing. a mixed day for sure….
I do like visiting up there as the fishing is great and my son has a drift boat for the rivers. Nothing like seeing a nice steelie or salmon jumping on the end of your line:>) What a rush even if you have to put it back. No native just hatchery fish until enough have been counted going up the fish ladders!
Bonneville Dam Fish ladder Check it out…. they also measure the fish with the lines on the screen.
Military.com had an article from yesterday saying that Chevron and several Defense Contractors in the Bay Area were targeted by Code Pink and other activists yesterday… They chained themselves to doors and even pelted employees with rotten fruit…! What’s in the water…?
Carlo, may I suggest that it helps to have a long view. From the point of view of archetypal cycles that play out in history, and using this as my reference point, the DLC is becoming increasingly irrelevant, as well as conservatism. The country will become increasingly more aligned with a progressive agenda in the years ahead. We’re already seeing this happening. But, it looks like national security will be a significant issue in this election and during the next presidency. So, if, for example, there is an attack and people are frightened, we tend to vote for security, even if it is self-defeating, as we’ve seen during the Bush presidency. The fascinating thing to me observing these cycles and the people who personify them like national figures such as Obama is that he was born in the 1960’s during the civil rights movement when a particularly potent archetypal configuration was operative. He has emerged on the national scene when that same configuration is again operative. And, he is manifesting the next phase of the cycle in his speech yesterday dealing with the race issue. It looks to me that he’s in tune with the spirit of the times, but it may take a few years for the whole country, the more conservative and traditional that is, to come along with him. *g*
A federal judge has ok’d the killing of sea lions to preserve the fish populations, at that Dam site… 8-(
i posted that last nite in the box… totally pissed me off
Saw that!! My son hates the sea lions as they are helping to destroy the run of several species of salmon… but they are just one piece of the puzzle as to why the salmon population has plummeted so precipitously here on the west coast…. no local salmon this year:>(
Heh, that’s where I read it then… 8-)
it totally pissed me off – its like when ‘the experts’ brought in the cane toad down under to take care of another problem… now cane toads are the problem. alien species introduction is just forking wrong – as is shooting sea lions to protect salmon.
Sure, blame the animals when you can’t blame the humans… Sad tale indeed…!
I guess the difference in my calculus is that I am sure, in a very short time, certainly long before November, economic conditions will deteriorate to the point that security will not feel as important as economic deprivation. For example, there were truck drivers interviewed on CNBC today that were ready to go on strike because they figured that their rigs were all going to get repossessed anyway, so why not. They were angry and basically felt that economic collapse has already happened. It is hard to sell security to people with nothing left to lose. These truck drivers are not alone in this feeling. I think the Repugs have made a serious miscalculation. I also think that the economic collapse is not over by a long shot. We are in 1932
and 1968 at the same time.
hi suz! (sorry for late response)
nope, spent my day free and had no patients. some arrestees were clubbed by SFPD (per KPFA eyewitness reports). Many arrestees have been released already, and I wasn’t at the jail for “aftercare” – those meidcs will know about casualties.
indybay will probably have lots of details/postings re today’s protests/arrests
good night, pups – sleep well
(and suz, when I’m awake I gotta ask you how to digg – the damn site keeps just asking for my loging info – but I’m too tired to undersatnd how to fix is)
be well, folks!
Mongoose has decimated the native bird population virtually to the point of extinction, and, indeed extinction for some… Most of Hawaii’s birds were ground layers, as there were no natural predators around… They were brought in to kill the cane rats, which was also inadvertently introduced…
call me tomorrow kirk and i’ll walk ya through it – in the late afternoon is good
allergy to war criminals and megacorp criminals – best damn water in any US city!
yeap, i was watching national geographics strange days on planet earth series on pbs this week – all about how nature is all fucked up. this is after watching that show last week on what would the earth do if people suddenly disappeared – how long it would take certain things to heal
A most vocal lot, eh? Aloha, Doc! ;-)
oh shit – just re-rerad – CT, I was at today’s protest in front of Chevron another MSD i completley trust was at the sat Chevron protest. I also know core legal observers. No one mentioned assault with thrown object.
I believe the military site is full of shit – establishingthe ussual spin after protests – but I’ll make very specific enquiries in the AM.
I love the smell of roasting winger lies in the morning.
but Ct- this is not to suggest I think you are decievng us iin any way -and I b eleive you’re accurately reporting what the military site alleges. my point is teir allegations don’t pass teh smell test. violent activities at the bay area protests makes instant news in te prtoest community 00 strictly forbidden by organizers.
sorry for typos – i’m really sleepy..and again, no crticism of you implied/intended, ct.
Aloha, CT always good to hear from you!
now off to bed – sleep well inthe blessed isles.

Citizen peony:
“The question is is the country ready to move forward.”
If you take the view that movements are not created by leaders but leaders are advanced on the tide of popular will then I think you are right that Obama will be able to “lead” the country beyond the muck of the last 150years. I have lived in this country for well over 60 years and served in the last great patriotic imperial excursion in VietNam and I am here to tell you that this country is ready. Fear will not prevail today, to quote Obama’s speech: “NOT THIS TIME!”
KEEP THE FAITH, FEAR IS JEST A WORD AND IT’S ALL THEY GOT!!!
Here’s the offending slur…
hey norske – in case i have not said so, thank you for your service
Bravo.
Insomnia keeping ya up, Norske? I agree that ‘We the People’ are sick and tired of the crap and will rise up if the shit don’t change soon…!
time for me to head out, pups. g’nite all.

Citizen Suzanne:
The best way to thank any veteran is to work for a country that will never again send our kids or grandkids to fight for profit and power…anyways, military service is not a choice made in pursuit of thanks or recognition…no matter what anyone tries ta tell ya.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, FEAR IS NOT ENOUGH…NOT THIS TIME!!!
Aloha, Suz!
Well, ciao from Indiana, gotta get some sleep, lotsa work ahead. Got some opposition to run rings around.
Evening norske
Tell us why.
Yeah. So, I’m thinking of going over to Venezuala and asking Hugo Chavez if he needs a good American cook. Maybe cook for all the people he’s been taking care of that we don’t hear so much about. Fantasy….yet.
As the incredible ” young bloods” have been teaching me – socialism isn’t dead. We can envision taking care of our own.Why not that vision, with strength. Why not.
As I tell them …Remember what the Black Panther guy at that rally said…Our generation has fought the battles. We can’t do it anymore. Now it is your time. We can support you and aid you but it is your time now.
That’s a constant humor point in our house.” Well,in my time.”….because there is an attitude among some newly-aged protesters to be so painfully holier-than-thou while asking 4 youths ” WHY There Are NO Young People….?”
“Why are you hiding your face?”
“There’s ALWAYS been surveillance, get used to it.”
“In MY DAY we weren’t afraid to show our faces.”
In the words of Bart Simpson ” It’s not your day. “
It’s tough being a homeschool mother trying to figure out the best way to approach living in historic times. Government, Constitution,Civics. Bring bail money.
So we protest and build little bridges in our community .
Norske, I’m proud of my 20 yrs of service, fortunately, I never had to fire a shot in anger! I fervently pray that my kids(I’d shoot’em if they did join) and future grandkids can say that…
Aloha, Carlo!
Well, I’ll bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
Time to stop those rain dances. Some medicine man been dancin to hard. Next thing you know it will be a drought.

I listened to my parents and my grampa (yes, I had a “Gampa Ole”) speak about the “great Depression” and the terrible grindin’ pain of the people brought on by constant struggle and existential fear. I was born in 1946 so my education and socialization included heavy doses of WWI and WWII and the history of workin people through study of the union movement. The last great change happened in the 30’s and 40’s and the leader that sheparded folks thru it was born into office on the tide of fear and hope I mentioned above. In 1968, the country again experienced the fear and anger brought on by the slow realization that the promise and hope given to the children since the end of WWII were bein slowly bled out into the rice paddies on SE Asia. But the country had not yet experienced the reality of deprivatrion and the loss and threat to existance of economic collapse so we didn’t get the full measure of change we were jest able to painfully pull ourselves outta VietNam but not without terrible social wounds. Toay people are faced with the extistential threat posed by emminent economic collapse…yes, the country is more than ready!
KEEP THE FAITH AND DON’T LET FEAR TAKE THE REST OF YOUR FUTURE!!
thank you norske
nite all
“I also think that the economic collapse is not over by a long shot. We are in 1932 and 1968 at the same time.”
I agree with your short term assessment re the economy vs. security. And I have been thinking the same thing about the link you’ve seen between 1932, the ’60s and now. Excellent.
Thanks, NorskeFlamethrower. Well, we’ll see soon enough.
Actually, I think we’re more like 1929 than 1932, but close enough.
