I’m on the watchlist, but I don’t remember exactly when I got put on — I’m a labor activist (and was a student activist until I graduated recently), but have never really spent time with any groups more than remotely connected to the most banal of terrorism. I’ve been meaning to see if I can FoI Act my records anyway, and I’ll let you know if I do and, if so, what they tell me.

No, LHP, that’s the warehouse from Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

I’m amazed you could confuse the two. ;-)

And I thought it was bad when the FBI threw away more than a billion on a new computer system that didn’t, um, adequately meet any of their needs. I’ve seen operations blow it like that before, but not law enforcement, not given the obvious visibility, interest, oversight and budget that was alloted here. That process at the FBI, and the “terrorism” watch list described above, bespeak a terribly flawed process where users and service providers aren’t speaking to each other and hiding the defects that they do know about. If that were a Six Sigma graph, I’d say it was flatlined.

More threateningly, the “process” (it’s really hard to call it that) at DHS seems as flawed as Brownie’s management at FEMA. Which leads to the supposition that much of DHS’s purported integration and efficiency is equally flawed.

I hope we don’t find that true of Bush’s administration of the entire federal government, but that would be my guess. As Carl Sagan used to say about stars, “billions and billions”.

for the protests to recognize the 5th anniversary of the invasion of iraq.

i’m not a pagan - more like a friend of the pagans. spent a week with the pagan cluster (a group of pagan-activists including starhawk) in miami for the ftaa protests in 2003 and in nyc for the rnc protests in 2004. would have loved to be with them in dc this week.

Starhawk is in DC this week? Was there some kind of convention?

WHen did Nacy Griles go from being a stand up comic to a “social commentator”? Am I the only one shaking my head while watching Dan Abrams show?

Abrams seems to need a fight, and taking Obama at his word gives him… nothing. No show.

You can wear a flag pin as big as the state of Texas, but that doesn’t mean you’re more patriotic than the guy standing next to you who isn’t wearing one.

I think it’s terrific you have a flag pin and wear it. My grandmother wore a fake-jeweled red/white/blue earrings & heart shaped pin on other days besides 4th of July. She always got weird looks by people when she wore them in the winter or spring or what have you. She didn’t care. She experienced her patriotism in her own individual way. No way would she yell at someone, “Hey! Where’s your flag pin!! Don’t you love your country!?!!”. No way would she ever say something like that. She walked with a skip in her stride too. Great woman.
