ladders of opportunity that were unavailable for previous generations. It requires all Americans to realize that your dreams do not have to come at the expense of my dreams; that investing in the health, welfare, and education of black and brown and white children will ultimately help all of America prosper.

“ladders of opportunity” is a nice phrase which reflects a Liberal intent.

“realize that your dreams do not have to come at the expense of my dreams” really reflects the sentiment of all those who have worked for Civil Rights in the past 50 years and at the same time gets to the heart of what America has always been about.

“investing” in social benefits will help us all “prosper” nicely ties together the current situation where we need health care reform not just to have better health, but for economic sanity.

Nice stuff.

A masterful speech.

Marred only by the followup chatterati like Pat Buchanan who lives down to his image as on old white racist Eff.

Normally we expect a speech to make us feel good. Sometimes we hope for uplifting feelings. Rarely we get enlightening.

Whether by plan or accident, if he has achieved a speech which inspires the Republicans to reveal their dark nature with regard to race, then it is even better. It can help to change the dividing point on this political issue, so that the vast majority of Americans will side with Obama and the Democrats and not the hate-filled Republicans.

Good speech, nice setting, pretty good response from the chatterati press & pundits.

Okay, Obama made his move, now we see how everybody else responds for the months to come.

One of the best things about Obama is that he does not talk down to his audience. This mornings speech is history making and will be quoted for years to come regardless what happens in this election. If the media steamrolls him over Pastor Wright causing his defeat, race relations will be set back 50 years. This speech brought chills, tears and the hope for what might be.

My mentality is fine, thank you. How do I know that his speech is not a complete phoney? How do I know that it is honest? Why must I believe that he distances himself with the Rev. Wright all those years he was his mentor, his friend — his paster — but only publicly does it now when he is about to be nominated the Democratic candidate for the presidency. Does he go home after the service and tell his daughters not to pay attention to the reverend — that his hateful message are not the ones he wants them to learn? Why is it upon our white shoulders to acknowledge that WE have the problem with racial diversity — when it is the Rev. Wright who has been spewing hateful and hostile speech and adds to the division of hatred between the blacks and whites. Yes, very clever, it is a fine time in this campaign to finally talk about race in America. What I want to know is, How does BO and his wife really feel other than the fact that he is a great orator. He has that gift, give him that.
