Awesome post, Christy. Thanks! And it IS something I do, in one way or another, each and every day. What I’m discouraged about is that although I DO something daily, and have now for just years!, this criminal bunch is still in power and the Iraq war still rages on. Voting democrats into Congress in ‘06 didn’t help. Maybe that’s changing now, finally, but what about the signing statements, appointees, and deaths that have occurred since those elections. THAT was what I was trying to stop, and it marched right on anyway. I won’t stop being a patriot and DOING something daily. But this has been just disheartening as well as frightening to me.
When I LAST was a patriot every single day, it was during the Nixon administration and we got the bum thrown out. It’s not like that anymore.
and I STILL WANT MY COUNTRY BACK!

We will be years in the reparation of these wrongs. Including the long road back to restoring the DOJ to a more just and less politicized department. As David said, the attempt to return the Presidency to the Nixon Doctrine — “if the President does it, it’s not illegal” — is a failed experiment for which we will all be paying for generations to come.

Unfortunately, I do not consider the attempt to return the Presidency to the Nixon Doctrine as a failed experiment at all. It has been remarkably successful, as a matter of fact! And if Conyers and those presently in government do not take to task the current administration for their abuses of power, their obstructions of justice, their utter contempt for our closest representatives in government, that is, the Congress of the United States, it will become the accepted law of the land by default. The Congress becomes complicit by not acting to defend their position in the balance of power, but instead creating new precedents. I wish that we had thought to print out Hugh’s list and hand it in bound book form to Conyers while Christy had the chance. He should be told that somewhere within the pages the Congress should be able to find enough to constitute high crimes and misdemeanors. What we have for an Administration today is the result of the offenses of the Reagan/Bush I era, the Iran/contra situation, being ignored. If you don’t hold their feet to the fire, they will not feel any burn at all.

Great post, Christy. It is essential that we restore Constitutional government in our country. We need to raise the issue with Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama at every opportunity, so one of them doesn’t get into office and become enamored with the Bushian notion of unlimited government power. We need to get them committed NOW to restoring habeas corpus, ending torture, doing away with signing statements and acknowledging the legitimacy of Congressional oversight over the Executive branch of government.

I ask these questions of every candidate whom I meet on Blue America. We need to get the message to Obama and Clinton, too, that we’re mad as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore.

I believe you are talking about Roger Clemens and his recent appearance before Congress. His arrogance in thinking he is above everything may make him this generation’s Pete Rose. Pete was eventually busted for gambling and Tax problems. He didn’t have to appear befroe Congress though.

“For it is the governed — we, voters — who provide the ultimate check and balance on how our nation’s government operates — and we must continue to demand more transparency, more accountability, and more answers to the growing list of questions on what is being done in all of our names.”

“Citizenship is not just something that you have and are born with — it must also be something that you DO.”

Well stated citizen Smith!!!
