We will be years in the reparation of these wrongs. Including the long road back to restoring the DOJ to a more just and less politicized department. As David said, the attempt to return the Presidency to the Nixon Doctrine — “if the President does it, it’s not illegal” — is a failed experiment for which we will all be paying for generations to come.

Unfortunately, I do not consider the attempt to return the Presidency to the Nixon Doctrine as a failed experiment at all. It has been remarkably successful, as a matter of fact! And if Conyers and those presently in government do not take to task the current administration for their abuses of power, their obstructions of justice, their utter contempt for our closest representatives in government, that is, the Congress of the United States, it will become the accepted law of the land by default. The Congress becomes complicit by not acting to defend their position in the balance of power, but instead creating new precedents. I wish that we had thought to print out Hugh’s list and hand it in bound book form to Conyers while Christy had the chance. He should be told that somewhere within the pages the Congress should be able to find enough to constitute high crimes and misdemeanors. What we have for an Administration today is the result of the offenses of the Reagan/Bush I era, the Iran/contra situation, being ignored. If you don’t hold their feet to the fire, they will not feel any burn at all.

I ask these questions of every candidate whom I meet on Blue America. We need to get the message to Obama and Clinton, too, that we’re mad as hell and we’re not going to take it anymore.
