We're at Take Back America, where earlier today I got a photo of the lovely Kagro X, and the equally lovely Christy Hardin Smith and Cliff Schecter. Beautiful people everywhere. (Facebook members can view more photos here).
Right now Marcy and I are listening to Naomi Klein talk about how the Left was ready for The Great Depression and responded with the New Deal, while we're not prepared with a progressive response to the economic crisis that seems to be looming.
Meanwhile, Stirling Newberry has some thoughts on the Bear-Stearns bailout. Warning: remove sharp objects from the vicinity before reading.

Jane,
You must be in firedog heaven surrounded by that crew! Have lots of fun for all of us at home by the water.
Bear SteArns
If Naomi does lay out a “New Deal”-type response, please let us know. A specific platform that would turn around the present direction would be very welcome.
Ahhhh. revolting heaven!
We desperately need to Take it Back, before it’s completely destroyed by the current crop of looters and cronys.
Nice picture! Yay team!

Joe Wilson’s 5/6/04 Washington Journal appearance now up on CSPAN.
Thank you for representing, and helping us take back America.
Why are the Democrats unable to articulate points like Stirling Newberry has? We are headed for an election based on who has the right pastor instead of things that are really important.
I hope we understand that within 4 years the baby boom will begin to hit retirement age; that is, the biggest generation with its huge productivity and taxable earning power will no longer be a positive side of the economy. The shameful inaction (as a result of that–my–generation’s inabilities) on health care and the environment lo these many years and the inevitably resultant economic crises both have been beginning to engender would be cause enough to pause as the compound chickens would becoming home to roost. We add to that an entrenched national mindset about the meaning of taxation, a exceedingly costly reality of being the world’s greatest military power, a position none of the candidates could even consider relinquishing. Now, the bubble of two booms based first on dead air–I am wondering if you the good folks at Firedog have made a killing as part of the dotcom phenomenon–and money no one could have ever expected to pay back on housing so inflated that only millionaires could realistically afford it (Reaganism to the max–charge it, let the usurers do their worst); I do not believe we can honestly say, especially given how Africa and the Middle East (let alone New Orleans) have reacted to the new world economy, Democrats or any other group of Americans are prepared.
Bullseye Jane, as per usual. I think FDL is extremely well positioned to cover large parts of this, if you so choose. You have always found a way to explain extremely complex issues in a way that the masses can understand.
Take Back America live on CSPAN.
Somebody needs to take the keys to the T-Bird away from the Neocons…pronto.
WOOHOO… more fun fotos to play with in Facebook!
JANE! Have a blast and hug everyone for us. BIG-ASS hugs; no cheerleader-fake ones, please.

Do not walk, run. You’ll find a great response for progressives to stand by and add to. Seriously, time stewardship is a necessity.
In fact Take Back America should invite TCC to do an Add-On presentation or just get some projectors and simocast their video and powerpoint of their The Fiscal Wake Up Tour from their website.
Just Do IT.
Such a cute ReddHead in that photo!
At the VERY LEAST, I would like to see Glass-Steagall and other vital regulatory reforms reinstituted.
The cure for bad government is good government - not private sector control of government services.
thanks eCAHN!
Can’t argue about that statement!
You flatterer, you. ;-)
Jane,
WRT The Concord Coalition…Here is their website:

I know TBA is on CSPAN, but is there anywhere it is being streamed live?

I think TBA is putting up some video of the conference and panels as well. Here’s the website for everyone…

Kristol Corrects False Assertion About Obama
By Greg Sargent - March 17, 2008, 1:03PM
In his latest column, Bill Kristol falsely claimed — based on reporting by Newsmax, of all things — that Obama had attended Trinity Church last July 22nd, when Wright blamed blamed the “arrogance” of the “United States of White America” for much global suffering.
I sent this to the NYTimes ombudsman:
”How is it possible that this column is still posted when the central fact in it admittedly false??
I was disgusted by the Bill Kristol column of today. But I don’t expect much from him.
However, I was truly disturbed to learn that the Times has become complicit in his fakery because a material statement in his column with regard to Sen. Barack Obama are demonstrably false.
This statement could easily have been fact checked and shown to be a lies. I know Kristol is a columnist, but surely accuracy extends to his efforts to defame Democrats and debase the democratic process.
The Times’ selection of him as a columnist was flawed and the paper went ahead regardless of warnings from wiser heads. You should rethink this or, at the least, subject his material to rigorous fact checking.
His tangential relationship with the truth, has earned him such special treatment. If he doesn’t like it, he can leave.
With regard to selecting him as a trenchant and valid spokesman for conservatives, the chickens have come home to roost.
‘You’ and the ‘Boys on the Blogz’ may not be ready for the New, New Deal but I’ve been reading and thinking and am almost ready to kick off the Real Deal®.
Whether the President is and aged, senile White Dude, a Black man or Sister Beezlebub aint’ gonna matter none when Peak Oil hits….which it may be doing right now.
‘We’ will need programs to get us off the oil addiction and ‘back to work’ fortunately they are all there waiting for us.
More later.
Heh, Tom Swan just thanked Jane and Marcy! 8-)
As if there’s not enough reasons….
Lieberman explains support for McCain
Thanks eCAHN and CHS
Darcy Burner on CSPAN 1 !
more and better Democrats
your funny MM
Our most dangerous terrorists are on Wall Street.
Take JPMorgan Bank, for instance, with 91$Trillion worth of derivatives based on underlying assets of 1$Trillion. This bank is broke. And still Bernanke hands them a 30$Billion bailout package.
These NYC Moneymen are crooks, criminals, and traitors, yet none of them have been convicted of anything.
Perp walks to Gitmo would stop the dollar collapse almost immediately.
Cagan, is right! Think Carney…! 8-(
Concord Coalition looks more like the DLC to me, with noted liberal thinkers such as Bob Kerrey.
I agree with Jane; we need a progressive economic agenda with a more progressive congress. Leaving the economy to Wall Street wizards and beltway insiders such as Obama and Clinton will bring more outsourcing of jobs and dollars.
Is Christy sitting in Schecter’s lap?

TBA: “How do we end the profit-motive in war?” “What do we do with the war profiteers?”
In many ways indeed. *g*
You can’t end the motive without ending the profit and good luck on that.
While Bush is only worried about the Big Boys, Speaker Pelosi has this comment up at the Gavel:
Loss of Trust on Main Street is as important as Wall Street.
Jacqrat, did you see the hat tip you got over at Think Progress?
TBA has gone off CSPAN, but I can’t find a video link at their website. Anyone have better luck than me?
Quote from some guy at TBA.
Love to see it, though.
Siun has live streaming on the next thread…at the bottom of the video screen there are two icons. If you hit the second from the right, it takes you to TBA live streaming and comments…
I’m getting a dark picture and no sound…but good luck.
There is a picture and sound now on the next thread.
To fix the economy will require an effort from all walks. At least progressives should talk to a group that has been working this this…
SHE’S DARLING! What a cute cute cute little redhead. wow. and THAT’S one of the heads I’ve “known” that has more going on inside it than most folks got goin’ on on the outside!
lol
I’m a HUGE FAN of Schecter too.
Question for Cliff Schecter…. Many Arizonians are looking for the planned book on McCain…. and Lenard Clark would like Cliff to contact him…
Will the book THE Real McCain come out soon?
what?????
Christy looks like a red headed Meryl Streep.
Christy,
That’s a great pic! Just the way I like to think of you! Thanks for sharing it.
reposted from the wrong thread:
Speaking of taking back America, it is high time for FDL to take a stand on the increasingly vile campaign tactics and outright lies of Hillary “clusterbomb” Clinton and her minions. Having been a reader, and sometime commenter on this site almost from its inception, the similarities between Mrs. Clinton and Joe “douchebag” Lieberman cannot be refuted, should sound a very loud alarm and be addressed aggressively without further delay. Too bad Joe Wilson backed the wrong horse. It doesn’t mean we have to. Enough is enough.
Christy,
we have a couple of bloggers from Idaho. nice folks. Give Cliff a smooch; I luv that guy!
How wonderful to hear Naomi Klein in person!
Christy,
Please ask Cliff if he graduated from GCS? If he did, there must have been something good in the water as it also spawned Matt Yglesias.
