It's been some time since anyone here asked directly for unrestricted support for FireDogLake -- not support for something special, or support for a Blue America candidate, or support for a Blue America initiative. Just plain old support. For the site itself, the server chow. The stuff that makes FDL go.
I don't know what you pay in your house for the things we've come to view as necessities in the twenty-first century, but I pay more than fifty bucks every month for basic mobile phone service and more than fifty bucks every month for basic cable television. Every single month. These things are as much necessities in my life as FireDogLake is. They may not be necessities in your life. But is FireDogLake?
Is FireDogLake important in your life? And do you think important things in your life are worth supporting?
Give it a whirl -- hit the button.
Use your credit card (or logon to PayPal) and make a donation. Or send a check to the snailmail address at the link. Large, small, in-between. You be the decider of how much you can give.
Not because this particular post tonight is extraordinarily worthwhile (ha!). Not because Sunday nights here at FDL are your destination never-miss blogtopia {h/t skippy}. Not because all of today's discussions exceeded your expectations. Not because you agreed with every front-pager today. Not because every comment elicited a head-nod from you. Not because you know you can come here to bathe in the warm jacuzzi of constant agreement and self-congratulation. Not because your candidate sucks and mine is Teh Awesome.
Just this: support this site because we're here every single day -- FireDogLake provides a thought-provoking forum for progressive views and progressive ideas. Provides a forum for you. And for me. And for our wide-ranging progressive community -- all of us.
Please.
Please support FireDogLake.

hi Teddy
hi Nolo. Long time no see.
thanks nolo!
thanks Steve!~
Hello dear!
judy garland? not my cup of tea but she seems happy
I already gave $100 to support my FDL family members “gittin’” to “Dinver”…
hello DrB
Yeah, there’ve been lotsa special requests, and the Blue America appeals, but I thought the server-hamsters looked a little peaked today. No particular reason….
greetings and salutations
judy garland! I feel like i’m in key west for new years!
I just sent in $100.08 for the FDL folks to cover the primary. I hadn’t sent any in quite a while, and now I feel better!
I donated (a little) to the FDL Denver Convention effort and a little more just now. Not much, as I don’t have much to toss around, but FDL is very important.
Hi Teddy!!! Chopped liver over here.
let me talk to mr and see what’s up. we just drppoed some cash on red crescent, islamic relief usa and IVAW. i’ll wait until he’s done eating his second red velvet cupcake, his resistance will be low…hehe
The FISA coverage alone is worth a contribution. Remind me though, what do I write in the “Item” line for Paypal?
Convention, I meant!
just because or perhaps for the servers
Donated $100. Hope it helps.
I’m trying to get my own finances ironed out. When i do, i want to give a bit to Doctors Without Borders. That’s one group that still amazes me in just how much they do. Once i can do that, i can give to FDL too.
The investment bank Bear Sterns was sold for 7% of its value in the dead of night to JP Morgan Chase. Uncle Sam bought all the bad paper.
Not Good
Yeah, alias. My finances are also a bit rocky now that I am paying the rent and groceries on my own.
Thanks Loo Hoo !
Hi Betsy!
It is important, isn’t it?
Thanks, RobZ
every little it counts but you have to take care of home first.
hey again…how’s tricks in Noo Orleans…
Thanks Cujo!
Thanks eCAHN!
sent my $$ last week - must have read your mind. :)

The Federal Reserve Cuts Its Lending Rate a Quarter Point
The Federal Reserve announced it was cutting its lending rate
to financial institutions to 3.25 percent from 3.50 percent
to help provide relief to a spreading credit crisis.
OK, done. As long as you promise no Suze Orman marathons.
judy garlaand i can stand, just no ethel merman, ok?
you should have not limited it to suze orman - there are other marathons available (ducking)
posted that in earlier thread…*g*
Hey, Suz - I’m getting a dog. Just may be cuter than Token !
sorry, twain, but token is the cutest dog in the world (9lb category) hoping your dog is the cutest in his/her/it’s weight class.
c’est impossible!
Actually, Token probably is the cutest. Mine is a Chihuahua and is right now only a week old.
No one could be cuter than my little Bucky. He’s 105 pounds of pure love.
LooHoo, isn’t cindy loohoo a chihuahua?
twain, your little one will be in a lesser weight class is my guess.
I love Summer Stock. Gene Kelly’s at his mellowest, Get Happy rocks, and my mom went on a date with Carlton Carpenter once.
I’ll take care of the donation on Monday after we’ve brainstormed the bills.
That is a lot of puppy to love. My baby is the cutest and at 70lbs is no lapdog (though that does not stop her from trying)
hiya Julia, that’s sweet.
This is unbelievable.
thanks! Did you see Rachel Wiig’s Suze Orman on SNL last nite?
Of course I’ll contribute but you’re timing might be a little off. I’m about to lose all my retirement money.
I’ve been blogging!
some stories you may have missed
and
Does the FISA legislation even matter?
hey julia
Texas Lottery is my retirement plan.
Yes, Cindy Loo Hoo is a chihuahua. Really intelligent, but what an awful bark she has!
Speaking of SNL, here was a funny SNL skit on McCain being old:

Former McGreevey Aide Claims Trysts With Ex-Governor And Wife
from Huff Po by The Huffington Post News Editors
The New York Post is reporting that the estranged wife of former New Jersey Gov. James McGreevey must have known he was gay, because they shared their bed with a handsome twenty-something aide:
Do you realize that all (at least as I understand it) lotteries are a scheme to steal from the poor to support the upper middle income?
I don’t know what just happened at 48. Sorry.
I read somewhere that almost 40% of Americans have exactly the same plan as you.
What? (((solai)))
Wish I could donate.
I just found out Friday that (a) I’m not getting a raise this year, and (b) my “retirement plan” (read: 401k through my company) lost $5 grand last quarter. That is more than 10 percent of my yearly salary gone in three months. Three months. Bye bye.
I did pony up some money for Christy’s computer last week. That’ll be the end of my giving much of anything to anyone for awhile. Because, honey, I don’t think things are gonna get any better for a long, long time.
Good thing I’m not middle-aged and have plenty of time to make up that lost “retirement”….Oh. Wait.
Never mind.
He is a pillow dog. When I get out of bed, he jumps in and puts his head on my pillow, right where I was laying. Now his father, who only weighs 75 pounds, thinks he is a lap dog.
ecahn, my cousin the math freak calls the lottery “a tax on people who are bad at math.”
No, I missed that. Once I get back to having a flashmedia-capable computer, I’ll have to look it up on YouTube.
Hey, you.
Just got back from dinner and of course HM doesn’t have a clean uniform for tomorrow (public school - just a polo and slacks, but preferably clean).
Thought I’d wile away away my dryer time in company…
Hi Gnome! Hope you and Mr. Gnome are well!
spent many a sunday nite that way until baby girl learned how to do her own laundry and get her school uniforms ready (also polo and slacks)
Buckle up, Pups, it’s gonna be a rough ride… The Nikkei is down 514 points already!
http://www.reuters.com/article.....9020080317
Fixed, Loo Hoo.
actually i do have a pension fund through the state and also a retirement account once belonging to the former Mr Tex.
I love big dogs but am just not able to handle one. At least I won’t have to fight for room in my own bed :)
I’m sure Sally Quinn will tell us how all this was Silda Wall Spitzer’s fault, too.
Hi Ron! I just saw your name and was going to give you a shout. We are doing pretty well. Just sitting around wondering whether tomorrow will be a St. Patrick’s Day Massacre in the financial markets.
just published that in the news box - thanks CT
Awww sweet. One of the best stress busters for me is to curl up with her and have a lovie session (lots of belly rubs and cuddling) When it’s over, I feel so much better. Pets are truly therapeutic
(( lisa ))
Thanks!!
Go to EW. They’re talking about this week being very bad.
Eh. I’m in New York. Most places that are open at this hour are much more expensive and the company’s not nearly as good.
Very sorry to hear that. I hope your situation improves.
And to think the Rethugs want to steal our Social Security money and put it into the market.
wow
lisa, I think there are a lot of us in that boat.
Heh, somebody mentioned this might be the St. Patrick’s Day massacre…! 8-(
Actually I lied, Mr. Gnome has gone to bed and I paused at the computer to say hi on my way to the kitchen and laundry room. Bucky says “woof!” I have to go put the chicken stock away before the buckmeister reaches into the stockpot and slurps it all out. He has been known to get food out of a large pot on the back of the stove without tipping over the pot. His brother steals food right out from under your nose and from the hands of small children. It is some weird gene. The females in the litter don’t do that.
Initial signs are pretty frightening…I think tomorrow is a lost cause, but Tuesday…interesting to see what happens. Bounce back, maybe not too bad, but a deflationary spiral? Very bad. I’m not an economist, but…damn, things don’t look good.
Not surprising, they’ve pretty much raided all the other money available to them. It’s the next logical step for them.
It’s worse than that. Empirical evidence shows that the poor buy latteery tickets, a bad bet, and the proceeds go to the upper middle classes which disprotionately attend state universities, the beneficiaires of lotteries in most states.
Good point on FISA, TexBetsy. I tried to leave a comment at your site, but it appears to have gotten lost.
dugg ya, teddy
Thanks, RobZ and Teddy. I know lots of people are in much worse straits than I am.
But sometimes you just gotta grab a bottle of wine and say, “This really frickin’ blows, dude.”
This should be a good talking point for the Dems - don’t let them get their hands on SS because look what’s happening to the market.
Dugg it, too.
Thanks Suzanne!
if I give ya 10 bucks, would that shut you up ???
I’ve been thinking about Bush’s master plan for the second term: privatizing Social Security. Do you think the plan was to bubble-up our privatized contributions, just in time to pick up the housing bubble’s slack? Seems to me that would be happening about NOW, had Nancy Pelosi not saved our bacon.
And the housing bubble might have gone away, taken over by the SS bubble. Thus we wouldn’t be in the mess we are right now, and for the rest of Bush’s term.
Of course, all bubbles burst, but the housing bubble softened the fall from the dotcom bubble. Maybe the SS bubble would have done the same for the housing bubble.
Of course, IANAE.
I just made a donation for the general good of the blog.
The other day I made a donation to buy Christy a computer, but I never heard the outcome of that fundraising effort. Was it successful?
Thanks! And probably.
That reminds me - how do we know that our money has actually gotten to FDL?
That was in reply to freepatriot at 93.
And thanks, neuro!
Cujo359, I rescued your comment. Good point! The radio network sends ALL comments to moderation. They prefer the chat room for back-and-forth conversation.
If a Bear took a shit on Wall St. would Ben Bernanke buy it?
-G
I don’t think they have any master plans other than to get their greedy hands on our Social Security money. And they knew Cheney wasn’t going to run in 2008, so no need to worry about re-election.
I know how much you all LOVE your dog, cat, iguana, etc. and how you think he or she is the cutest, smartest, most beautiful, bestest pet in the whole wide world. So make a donation here in the name of your pet to show him or her, and FDL, how proud you are!
Agreed. The scary thing is the folks who are going to vote republic are not going to change their minds no matter. Anyone who can’t look around and see what has become of our country and hasn’t been living under a rock for the last 7 years and will still vote for a republic should not be allowed to vote. They are too stupid to consume air.
he did, didn’t he?
Well, if you use your credit card, you will see an entry on your statement for The FireDogLake Company. If you write a check, you will get your cancelled check back, or see it in your statment. I’m not a PayPal account holder; do you have an account summary you can look at to determine where your money has gone?
With our money.
Teddy, you presuppose a strategy that is far beyond the smash and grab tactics of the Bush/Cheney knuckle draggers.
-G
Paypal e-mails you a receipt that you can print out.
I spent my last nickel on dog food . . . *g*
(that is because my dogs ate my credit cards)
I do, but just wondered how I would know that it actually went to FDL. Trying not to sound stupid but just don’t always trust things like this.
what kind of computer did she get ???
I’m in the market for an INEXPENSIVE* laptop
anybody got any ideas ???
*I ain’t cheap, but I ain’t rich either …
oh, an teddy, I addressed the envelope already, it’ll be in the mail tomorrow, ok
Oooh, bless you for still making your own stock. Before empty nest took over here, stock pot on the back of the stove was a weekly event.
see my comment above. i’m waiting for mr to go into his sugar plunge *g* before i talked to him about making more donations. if not today, next week
Japan down about 4%, could expect US market to be down about 4% tomorrow.
well, technically, he didn’t pay cash, he used the Mastercard
looks like he got ROBBED too
if that’s all it takes to run the fed, appoint ME to the fricken job. I could lose $200 billion a week in my sleep
pretty good, great weather, spring break !
Why wouldn’t the market be way UP tomorrow? Since everybody knows Ben will bail them out….
I’m watching the Asian markets right now … what a melt down!
Isn’t boosh’s “ownership society” wonderful?
I guess for some, that would depend on how the markets are doing…
I wasn’t going to mention this, but when I was scooping out the bones and stuff at the bottom, up came my digital timer! Evidently the steam had loosened the magnet from the hood and it fell in! The thing is electronic and made in China, so god knows what chemicals we ate. Mr. Gnome said it was extra good this time . . .
Who is going to bail Ben (or, more accurately, us) out?
