But you know what, I don’t think the American Public -as a whole- has the stomach for this crap.

In recent weeks, too often, some people have cheered MSNBC, even when they seriously breached journalistic standards, because it was done at the expense of a candidate they did not favor.
I have tried, perhaps, without sufficient clarity, to warn that in time the bad journalism practiced by MSNBC would be employed against Obama. It didn’t take as long to materialize as I thought.

So do people actually buy this racist crap, or are these tactics going to backfire on them?

I live in Pa and got a call yesterday afternoon from a woman supporting Hillary Clinton. It was a very interesting exercise on her part as I (thanks to FDL and Glenn Greenwald and the rest) am up to date on the latest correct information. She threw in all the right wing dog whistles. It was obvious to me that she had been primed to send everyone she called to that clip of Rev Wright. She saw no reason to be offended by Geraldine Ferraro. I finally said that I was offended by her(the womans)remarks. One of her interesting points was that I was better informed than most. I am grateful to you all that I am current on my facts. In my opinion the woman represented the narrow minded closet biggots that are being targated now by such calls. She was calling from a toll free number.

I have been loathe to critique the Clinton campaign, but while I expect this sort of nonsense from Fox–a widely repudiated news source–the positions and subtle innuendos of Clinton’s surrogates and advertisers (that black boy is not the one, America, to protect your sleeping blonde little girl at 3 AM from the (Muslim–I have no reason to believe he is one) evil doers (”Shame on you Barack Obama,”)–have opened the door for these disgusting and mendacious hounds to validate themselves. What’s more the worst of this is that it defuses what should be right now a hard hitting and in your face detailed critique of our Iraq policy by both Dem candidates, in that the promotion by others of brown man and islamo phobia memes are the very bait and switch John Mc Cain must base his campaign on. I hope you are right, but in the sixty minutes interview they acted like McCain’s temperament was one of his great attributes. Kind of like Bush’s cowboy image early in the 2000 campaign.

I was just watching hardball and Mathews is really trying to smear Obama with his pastor’s words. Apparently when they taped the show Sissy was unaware that Obama has denounced his pastor. It seems to me there are certain things missing from this narrative-1) We don’t even know if Barack was even present for some of these sermons. 2)The pastor has given a sermon a week for 20 years, and they have excerpted a few lines from what could be thousands of sermons. Are there other sermons that put all this in another light? 3) Did Barack ever say anything like this? If not how is it that he has it hung around his neck when he didn’t say it? 4)I thought he was a Muslim last week in which case this Christian stuff shouldn’t have anything to do to with him.

I look at persons, I see full human beings. Only when I have allowed fear the upper hand have I seen a “half-breed.”

Rather like how I try to explain some of the discrimination against women in the previous generation to my daughters. You could go to a certain college but only boys could get in early decision, you couldn’t enter a particular library or be in the marching band if you were female. And they just look at me like I’m speaking from the planet Mars.

Needless to say *they* don’t feel we should elect a female president just because of her gender, or to make up for past discrimination, or because it’s our turn, or it’s time, or any other foolishness. We have succeeded, and the younger generation looks at merit alone.

Yes. And we’ll soon be angry street dogs, if they aren’t careful. Obama has never hidden his mixed ancestry, so it is perfectly appropriate to note it…respectfully. But to create terms like “Halfrican” is clearly designed to demean and mock people who are of mixed race. Most Mexican-Americans are of Mixed ancestry…and increasingly proud of their Mestizo origins. Genetic studies have shown that up to 10-15% of the self-identifying white population has an African ancestor in their past within the last two centuries. It’s more if you consider groups like Native Americans.

If Fox and MSNBC want to play this game then let them face the consequences. The vast majority of people under 30 don’t carry this racist baggage…especially about miscenegenation…and will react against the efforts to win elections using this putrid history.

BTW These are the same sorts of tactics that the Serbs used in Yugoslavia, and the Hutus used in Rwanda to foment genocidal war.

I happened to see a few minutes of The View on Monday, March 3. I saw Elizabeth (whatever her name is) spewing on “black values, black community,” etc. from Rev. Wright.

I went on-line to check it out for a 6-8th grade class I am working with, and I googled around and found that Wright had appeared on Hannity some time prior.

Elizabeth was spewing the exact same spew as Hannity. So another example of the virus is on ABC, The View. Of course Whoopi and the other African American woman tried to set Eliz straight, to no avail.

The 6-8th graders had no problem understanding what Wright was talking about. They totally could call Elizabeth on her shit. So, while the spew may work for the older generations, it don’t pass with the younger gen.

Fox is running the media pool at the convention? Are you serious? It will be a whole week of people picking their noses or dozing off or looking as ugly as possible. And close ups of all lapels without a flag pin.

Have what man step down? Rev. Wright is retired, and no longer pastor of the chruch.

And make no mistake, people. When Geraldine Ferraro opened her pie hole it was with the consent of the Clinton Campaign. None of these “accidental statements” from people close to the campaign are accidents. These are all skilled politicians, people who have been in the game for years, they ALWAYS know exactly what they are saying. They are simply people who are willing to take the fall to get a talking point injected into the narrative that they know will be effective with a certain segment of the electorate.

It’s a calculation, put it out there, distance the candidate from it, hope it takes root. The calculus is that by distancing the candidate they lose less votes than they gain by having the poison in the pool.

HRC is ‘a monster.’ She’s a vicious storm of ego, and she won’t bat an eye at costing the Democratic party the election if it gives her a chance to be the nominee. Just ask Rush, he’ll tell you – she’s the most conservative candidate in the race at this point. That may actually be true, and don’t doubt for a minute that she’s just as owned by the corporate lobby as McCain.

I wonder. I really do – if in her heart of hearts, she wouldn’t rather see McCain win than Obama? She and John certainly have a lot of the same friends.
