Look who just got indicted:
Greenberg Traurig is in hot water in the tropical U.S. territory of Guam.
The ginormous firm – 1,750 lawyers and counting — was indicted Tuesday in connection with alleged lobbying activities by former employee Jack Abramoff, who pleaded guilty in 2006 to a conspiracy to bribe public officials.
The indictment was reported yesterday by the ABA Journal, which links to the indictment.
According to the indictment, Abramoff and Greenberg Traurig received $324,000 in lobbying fees from a Guam court administrator in alleged circumvention of Guam procurement rules. Abramoff and the firm were charged with theft by deception, among other charges.
Given how long things have been held up on this investigation — including alleged prior blocking of indictments by Jack’s pals Karl Rove and Tom DeLay — I have to wonder what it was that broke the indictment dam on this matter. Especially given the DeLay and Buckham two-step on keeping money operations going in Guam and other US territories and on KStreet, I really have to wonder if there is much, much more to follow.
Especially since Jack Abramoff himself is also named in the indictment. That can’t sit well with Mr. Supposedly Cooperating With Federal Authorities, now can it?
Is Jack finding his federal prison digs not to his liking, and spilling even more beans? Has Mukasey lifted the Alice Fisher stranglehold on GOP prosecutions in these matters? Did several of Abramoff’s underlings at Greenberg Traurig spill some tidbits about internal deliberations on using Abramoff’s connections to boost firm profits in less-than-savory ways (especially given that a number of the firm’s Abramoff pals were cast out in 2005 in the wake of the Abramoff revelations)? Or is this just the natural course of a slow-moving investigation team connecting enough dots to bring a grand jury indictment in the natural course of things? I’d sure love to know the details.
Especially given the intertwined legacies of Abramoff and Rove pals Grover Norquist and Ralph Reed in this as well.
I’m sure you all recall the details of the kickback and pass-through payday scheme in which they all allegedly participated from John Anderson’s Follow the Money, don’t you? Does this mean that more indictments could be in the offing? Or that we’ll finally get to dig through all those thousands of pages of documents and e-mails regarding potential misconduct by Republicans that St. John McCain held back from public scrutiny to protect his donor base pals? Inquiring minds and all…
ABC has indictment details, and more background on the 2002 squelching of the Guam investigation. This all ties into the USAtty firings questions as well, so the fact that an indictment on this has been obtained is quite intriguing at this point. Popcorn, anyone?

Redd!
Evening CTuttle — how goes life in paradise?
Interesting! Can Bush pardon away these legal problems in Guam for this collection of pals?
Fabulous news and song.
Where’s my handkerchief?
Abramoff! The Scandae that keeps giving and giving and giving! Bet McCain will be reaching for the heartburn bottle.
wow just corrupt to the core. so the repug walk of shame continues
The links above are a veritable who’s who of GOP values, too. Enjoy…
Feeling shame disqualifies a person from being a member of the Republic Party.
I won’t be happy until Rove is dealt with. And if Rove falls, so will two other vip pols. Neat.
There’s a HuffPo link above discussion McCain’s link-in with all of this…and another link or two about the document hold-back from Indian Affairs. Still lots of questions there…
Whew, a lot of links, Redd! I did find the one I was looking for, the Marianas and Delay…!
Steady kiddo.
L.
I love Christy’s linkfests!
It’s amazing just how much information you can append with well-linked goodies. *g*
Finally getting some much needed rain, all our lawns were turning brown, particularly, when this is the rainiest month of the year, typically… Global warming is for real…! 8-(
Make the popcorn gourmet Christy. This is indeed an interesting day.
I saw Janis at the Sound Factory in Sacramento when she was with Big Brother. Seems like light years ago. Sometimes I feel old.
Justice Dept. appeals NH phone jamming acquittal.

There was alot left unsaid by the McCain Indian Affairs Committee. The “Family Values” Party has a great deal to explain in the area of their involvement with Indian gaming especially in Mississippi and Texas. I am still pissed about how the Tiguas near El Paso were treated.
man that is one incredibly sourced read, thanx christy
I am wondering what is going on with Don Siegelman
Christy, Christy, Christy,
You have just made me tear up a little.
BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA.
Scumbags are finally going to get a little disinfectant spread their way?
Oh yeah, I LOVE it!
I can’t imagine why you feel old!
Good God, I love Janis.
Nothing that a good soak in the hot tub couldn’t take care of, Okk! ;-)
Oh, and the “Family Values” Party loves prostitution if they are the PIMPS!!!
I don’t know if everyone remembers Gus boulis of abramoff fame but I worked for the man and a bigger heart us hard to find among big business’s men
Gus was really loved by the community and his staff
linkalicious, Redd.
The GOPs can’t keep the lid on this forever, it’s gotta come out. Alice Fisher, maybe, is too busy with her own problems in Alabama to pay attention to Guam?
Why is Ralph Reed not in jail? Seems to me the evidence points to fraud.
my name is cbl, and I’m a jackaholic . . .
dayum ! am staring at one of 50 post it’s on the desk wherein I scribbled – Guam ??? as a reminder to see what had transpired in my 8 months of radio silence
but, but, they were absolved of any of Jack’s slime, oh god, the schaden-o-matic lies in pieces on the FDL Wheelhouse floor
Christy ,
my obsessive ass will eventually get through all your fabulous links – but are we gonna find treasure on the fired Guam USAA ?
guess I’m gonna have to give back this lovely token :D
Why aren’t ALL of them in jail?
Freaking mafia protection racket they got goin on from the inside.
Looks like something finally broke loose!
From the ABC link…
Hmmm… Can anyone say SAR’s and Eliot…?
I want. No… I demand, parity under the law for offenders.
I think Christy is busy sharpening the edge on her shovel so she can dig even farther into this.
AH, the good old days are back again.
This had kind of fallen off my radar, what with so many outrages coming from Mafia central all the time.
This is never, ever off my radar… *g*
XO XO
Nothing is off kiddo’s radar. Trust me.
L.
mean ol Mr Cbl is making me go to dinner – catch y’all in a bit
hope someone answers my question about the fired Guam USAA Black -
Christy – sent lots of faxed love to those who flipped in favor of the Consitution today
mad progressive love to all
I am just squealing, The Bugman! Lord how I have wanted to see that smug jerk get himself some time behind bars.
IOKIYAR
I turn my eyes to the prosecuters to save us. Where else can I turn?
If you guys were here, you could all have a big mug of gumbo…rainy weather food at our house this evening.
President Obama. Please give us a very good AG.
I am amazed that the WSJ blog stylebook allows the use of “ginormous.”
Gumbo, please !
*holds out bowl*
SCOTUS is critical. Mr. McCain must be devalued.
btw, for folks who haven’t yet read it — John Anderson’s book does a great walk-through of the Abramoff/DeLay/K Street/Reed/Norquist/Rove connection loop up.
What’s the timing on this in terms of a new administration? What kinds of tricks can be played for the 10 months? Can they file mickey mouse charges to which double jeopardy can attach, for example?
Does this mean Hillary has to return the $185,000 she took from Greenberg Traurig? Or was that a down-payment on a pardon?
Or, better still for the Rs, do mickey mouse plea bargains?
OOOh, Gumbo, I was just yesterday perusing some Cajun recipe sites. I have my mouth set on some Jumbalaya.
I am reading the Three Trillion Dollar War, and it occurred to me I could just rip out each page while handing them out individually to folks on the street as an informative warning. One page to outrage.
I think both candidates have taken Greenberg money, if I remember correctly. Read something about that today, as a matter of fact. Greenberg’s a pretty big firm with offices all over the country — and their lawyers were not all connected to Abramoff — not by a long shot. So were I advising any of the candidates, I wouldn’t tell them to return anything that wasn’t Jack-connected. Having owned my own firm — and being married to someone who is also a lawyer, I can tell you quite honestly that we enjoy exercising our freedom of speech and political participation just like everyone else. *g*
That was from an ancient post of Jane’s, wow, Redd, the links have further links…!
why not?
Yep, they do. There are so many twisted layers in this story, it is unbelievable once you start digging them out how far down they go…
Gumbo? You got to have okra.
Maybe when the paperback edition comes out. *g*
Jambalaya Jambo(ham) ala (with) Laya (rice) I’m planning to make it for 100 in a couple of weeks.
Rove is key.
Here it is — I thought I’d seen something on both Clinton and Obama taking money from Greenberg…so they’d both have to look at the donations and answer from where they came and what, if any, Abramoff ties there might be.
Only if you make okra gumbo, if you make file gumbo you leave the okra out.
‘What a tangled web they weave…!’ *g*
I want to see an extremely strong AG under President Obama.
Yup — and since Mr. ReddHedd is NOT an okra fan, I make file gumbo here.
sorry to break O/T, here,

i have updated my post, of
earlier today — to include a new
full-sized image of page 142
of the DoJ’s OIG 2006 NSL report,
which details egregious negligence
in turning over the wrong person’s
records, in some cases, in turning
over the full-text of emails, in
others, and turning over the wrong
person’s phone records, in still others,
all due entirely to the failure of
the telecoms to carefully read the

FISA Section 215 records request.

fax the full image to your congress-

I always make gumbo with okra. With or without file. Cooking is of course a matter of taste.
There is also the lenten gumbo gumbo z’herbes
my anti-virus program just informed me that it has down-loaded new info to the database. any bets on it having to do with all the evil Christy has just presented us?
I can’t imagine a world without okra. Fried with salt, pepper, cornmeal or with stewed tomatoes.
Matt – could you refresh my memory on McCain vulnerability regarding Abramoff?
Folks that don’t appreciate okra? Well, for the time being I won’t be judgemental on this issue. ;0)
I need to go off-topic. I was at work following the FISA vote today. Couldn’t really comment like I would have liked, felt lucky that I could, at least, keep checking the progress.
Anyway what I need to say is a big ‘Thank You’ to all the people that host liberal blogs. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Our country has been going steadily toward fascism for the last 7 yrs. If not for the internet, I’m sure Bush/Cheney would have succeeded in shredding the constitution and changing the U.S. into something few would recognize.
So, to all who manage this website and all the others out there fighting the good fight, you should be proud. We won one today and it wouldn’t have been possible without your dedication.
Sher goes on to explain how her family loves Seafood File Gumbo, not okra gumbo, and I realized immediately that my gumbo knowledge was pretty limited. Apparently gumbo made with file powder (pronounced fee-lay) is a Cajun dish while gumbo made with okra is Creole. Most gumbos get a lot of their rich flavor from a combination of flour and oil called a roux. Apparently there are a few different types of gumbo, all of which have their fans, and Sher isn’t the only food blogger who thinks gumbo is holiday fare.
If McCain wins, I will blame the Democratic Party. My party.
It’s a labor of love…but thanks much. Fight switches back to the Senate, again, and we’re working on steps we can take to push something that upholds the rule of law through as much as we possibly can.
If anyone has thoughts or ideas on that, let me know…
I strongly maintain my confidence in okra.
McCain was the Chair of the Senate Indian Affairs sub-committee during much of Abramoff’s shenanigans…
A lot of the taste comes from the roux — I’m a medium-brown roux person myself. Some people like theirs more blonde for a milder taste, and some like it almost burnt in a deep brown color. There’s also the holy trinity of onions, peppers and celery that gets softened up and browned a bit in the roux before the broth, rice, meats, veggies, etc.go in to stew for a while.
I think it’s a personal taste thing, really…but for me, it’s a rainy day Friday kinda food. *g*
I went to the New Orleans School of cooking in the early 80’s. Through that and reading literally hundreds of books about cajun (Acadian) and creole (from crillo or “of the colonies” in Spanish there is an absolute difference between the two kinds of Gumbo. That being said, after the school I stayed with a friend who was new Orleans born and bred and, in there home, Gumbo was nothing but vegetable soup. Of course there are people that put beans and tomatoes in chili to, it ain’t chili but it may taste good.
aren’t there like 600,00 documents still being suppressed?
I’m just gonna wait until Grover Norquist gets his wise ass indicted. Very smart guy in an evil sort of way. His little operation has probably been a funnel for so much dirty money they’ll need a semi to haul all the bank records to court. I wonder how many Norquist lookalikes will shave that obnoxious little goatee if he’s indicted. So many of them sport that thing I was beginning to think it’s part of the wingnut uniform. First ya gotta drink the Kool-Aid, then grow the Norquist-style facial hair. Assholes.
Yes. I am acutely aware of this fact.
The holy trinity is also useful when cooking the roux becaUse you can arrest the cooking process immediately by adding it. As we ALL know, if we burn it just a bit we throw it away and go back jack and do it again.
Sounds accurate to me, maybe, Christy has another linky on tap…! 8-)
KO Time…!
that’s a great blog entry you have up there, I wish I could cut and paste the screenshot, will type by hand;
sorry if there are typos, I transcribed that but I TOLD YOU, THEY ARE STEALING FROM US, it is clear as friggin day
Gumbo, yum. Chicken or seafood? You make a roux?
Ooh, Obama will be on with KO!
YAY!!!!
FINALLY!
5:00 on Friday.
I had the week from hell and today was no different.
See Ya’s !
Any day for gumbo is right for me. It can be a hot Oklahoma afternoon or a snowy night. Makes no difference. Not where gumbo is concerened. Be it chicken, shrimp, sausage, turkey, ham gumbo or whatever. And for us in this house, without okra, it’s not gumbo. It’s a matter of taste i suppose.
Obama now on with Keith…
Keith playing the Jeremiah Wright tape now once again…among other tapes…
umm, nevermind. jest catchin’ up.
Wright no longer on Obama Campaign Spiritual Advisory Committee…
swift boat treasurer embezzles million bucks from gop
oh, how sweet it is
Just now paid attention to the video. In the day Janis with Big Brother was just awesome. Awesome.
Some of what Pastor Wright says I cannot disagree with.
I’ve heard Wright speak. He came to our denominational conference last summer and was quite measured and gifted.
As someone said on a TPM thread, I wouldn’t imagine anyone in my congregation who ran for public office measured by what I said or didn’t say. The double standard in the media over this and McCain’s reich wing very angry and evil pastors is painful.
The Palestinians are oppressed. Is this not a valid statement?
I’m so lucky, my friend put her phone up to her TV so I could hear Keith. I’m cable impaired.
I agree! I might disagree with his vitriolic delivery, but, the message is true…!
Wright has actually retired from his congregation…looks like Obama is appearing momentarily on Keith to do damage control…
Very good.
Good news about Greenberg Traurig!
May Jack shadow McCain throughout the general.
Lets perhaps examine Mr. McCain’s message.
Jonathan Alter said that Obama needs the support of Jewish groups in Chicago who have known him for quite some time to come to his defense
BTW, Keith put this show on tonight at last minute…
Obama’s on…
And what has the message from George W. Bush been over the last seven plus years?
It’s funny how the right wing just assumes that you agree with everything your pastor says. They don’t have three synapses to jump start in the critical thinking area. Morons.
Please Keith, don’t play that video again!
Obama claims ignorance. Weak.
Obama: Jeremiah Wright’s a former Marine…
So sorry to hear the Reverend has stepped down.
Obama: I would not repudiate the man. He brought me to Jesus. He’s like …
What are the issues that you disagree with Pastor Wright on?
Mainly because in right wing churches you are expected to believe what your authoritarian pastors say. It’s the way it works.
But Obama belongs to a UCC church which is almost as liberal as mine is and folks in the pews are expected to question and challenge what we say.
…like an uncle to me.
??
If he wasn’t there he wasn’t there, how is that weak?
I’m glad he got rid of him, it’s just going to continue to come up
Obama: This will be viewed as political fodder (he’s right on that…)
What sin has Pastor Wright committed?
How long will it take Clinton and McCain to use the Wright issue?
Because Obama should have thoroughly done his own oppo research.
OT Pelosi backing the dem challengers in So FL where our former shero Debby Wasserman Schultz is proving to be a BFF to the repigs. What a disappointment she has become!
Obama: The Pastor has had a bitter life experience….
Keith now brings up Rezko…oh by, here we go…
He was a preacher.
You are kidding, right? You heard this and aren’t offended?
How about we discuss John McCain and Hagee.
they don’t have to. The librul media is doing it for them.
Obama’s done with Keith…
Keith now back with Jonathan Alter (an Obama supporter, BTW…in case anyone’s wondering…)
If Obama is responsible for what his pastor says then the republics are responsible for everything bush says.
No.
BTW, wobbly, Alter makes the point that BO must have heard some imflamatory sermons, so these could not have come as a surprise.
KO brought up Rezko! I guess all those charges of KO being biased in favor of Obama just went out the window!
could have fooled me.
What part of the vid offends you?
D: Indeed, I had higher hopes for Schultz and Meeks.
That’s why I only lasted 2 years at Baylor, the largest southern Baptist school in the world. It was stifling.
and Falwell and Robertson and Hagee and Parsley . . . . and on and on.
How many Republican pastors, let me count the …
I am not pleased with Olbermann tonight. Thus far.
That’s right.
Well he may have viewed it as Kiddo and some others, what is so wrong with what he said? Is it not true?
This Wright stuff is not a story worth reporting.
God, you guys are so dense. He’s running for prez of the U.S., not friend of lefty blogs. Get out of your own skin and look at it from the opponents POV.
Before I am beat to a pulp here, I want reiterate that I do not believe Obama should be held accountable for Reverend Wright’s obnoxious remarks.
..not necessarily…Keith is an Obama supporter, in the eyes of some of us cognoscenti…
I am pleased with it, he asked the tough questions that Obama is going to have to deal with and he has acted somewhat quickly (to appease those that would find fault with it) and now he has to talk about this as much as possible to essentially kill it as a topic/issue
she’s right here…
not only the opponent’s pov but low information voter Joe Public with a magnetic yellow ribbon on his SUV gas guzzler. But then again Joe wouldn’t have voted for him anyway. How about the soccer moms. . . NASCAR dads? Not looking good.
You don’t know me well enough to call me dense so address me as an adult with a modicum of respect that has a different opinion than you as I have.
Vitually every damn word he uttered.
If some of you think a good defense to this is that it isn’t offensive, you are very wrong.
Two entire years in Waco? Was that when they still banned dancing? Let alone having to attend Baylor…
Get it out now rather than in October.
…and you’re right as well…
This is why all this is quite complicated. This election cycle is quite unlike any other in US history…(I’m not kidding..)
Aargh… WTF?
Some forty nominees for 5 dem nominees… 8-(
Boy have I been waiting for some of the Abramoff related shoes to start falling. Thanks for the post.
I just got through listening to Martha Raddatz on Washington Week defend the sacking of Admiral Fallon. Needless to say, Raddatz is a complete and total idiot. Every once in a great while she will say something or ask a question that shows a spark of intelligence and then it’s gone. Apparently it’s bad for Fallon to question going to war with Iran but OK for Petraeus to say he thinks the political process in Iraq isn’t working. What does she have for brains? OK, trick question I know she doesn’t have any.
Vitually every damn word he uttered.
An example, please.
chill out…eCAHN wasn’t addressing you personally…
Your comment indicated an inability to look at this issue the way many others would. So I called you dense. I fail to see how that is disrespectful.
Let’s just say, I remain an Olbermann supporter. But I think Mr. Olbermann could have re-phrased some of his questions put to Obama about this Wright thing.
Wow, I sure hope Barack Obama wasn’t in church on 9/16/2001 when the Reverend Wright said “God damn America.” Because if he was, after saying he was not, it is all over for him, I think.
These distractions — Ferraro, Hagee, Parsley, Power, and now Wright — sure don’t leave a lot of time on teevee to talk about what’s important: the economic meltdown, the deadliest week of the war in months, Cheney’s trip to see the Saudi bosses, Bill Foster’s victory, and the House standing up on its hind legs today.
i said that above, get it out now. i don’t appreciate being called dense
I am of course glad I have folks like you around to tell me when I am wrong.
It indicated an opinion which is capable of changing as any opinion is (not made of concrete) that would imply that you might be intolerant, no?
one of the fisa whistleblowers is on ’now’ on pbs, right now
I don’t know that name calling memebers of our same team is helpful. And piling on is never that positive. In my view, of course.
Alison Stewart (who’s taken over for Keith) still has Alter on…
Keith’s under the weather, or so he says…but he has a hot date…(just kidding!)
I think the defense of obama is going to growing as tiresome as the hillary bashing.
mark klein, att, sanfrancisco, 2003
thanks
Kiddo are strong supporters of Senator Obama.
Lahoma
Robertson, Falwell and others blamed the gays and our lifestyle after 9/11 and they were not on the news 24/7. Doesn’t anyone read cnbc or cbsmarketwatch or bloomberg news?
going to grow*
Look, this is silly. I support Obama, but if you can’t hear that what Wright has said is going to be absolutely unacceptable to a vast majority of the American electorate, then……well……..nothing I can say is going to convince you.
nevermind, we are all fundraising here, all of the time right now.
but will look online, thanks
I agree.
Obama is getting on top of this right away. And it’s best for Keith to ask these questions to Obama directly, without soft-balling them.
We may know it’s rubbish, but if everything we knew was rubbish were treated so by the MSM and the so-called “low-info” voters, then we wouldn’t be in the mess we’re in, right?
And we all know how well it worked for Kerry to ignore the effect of the Swiftboaters on the mass media, yes?
I’m happy to see Sen. Obama step up to the plate quickly and swing.
I particularly found it a refreshing thing for him to discuss the historical, generation-specific effects of racism in the black community, and to state that his message of unity is only possible on the shoulders of the (much angrier) generation which came before him, who fought much bloodier battles than Obama has had to encounter.
[In this respect, it’s yet another similarity to the history of feminism — the older generation fights an astonishingly overwhelming battle so that the younger generations “take certain things for granted.” Of course, knowing that history is crucial for all — what’s happening in the economy is another example of what happens when current generations don’t know the messy details of what went on in the twenties and thirties.]
lol, good point, i had forgotten that idiocy.
That wasn’t the question. The question was what did you personally find offensive?
you’re right here…most Americans do welcome thee distractions…they (the distractions) seem so convenient…
Let me ask you this: if the United States over the years had been fair and even handed in dealing with the problems of the Middle East, do you think 9-11 would have happened?
What is it with short term memory?
..all this is known by techies as “speaking to oneself”…
I tend to forget the religious zealots asap.
Even if Obama was not there during the “God damn America” comment, scores of people will be coming forward to swear that he was. Even I could have come up with that strategy to keep the controversy going.
That should be read as kiddo and I are strong supporters of Senator Obama.
L.
You have failed to answer the question.
I’m just disgusted that the Dem’s ‘indiscretions’ always has legs, and, the repugs skate away…! Don’t ya just love our ‘Liberal’ MSM…?
The point is, or should be, that Obama did not say this – the minister did. Frankly, the minister may be just past his sell-by date and shouldn’t have been there at all. Who knows? I don’t want to be held responsible for anything that someone else says. It’s wrong and the ministers who have been mentioned certainly should be brought up by Obama. Disgusting creeps that they are.
American MSM doesn’t like to see agitated black ministers rile up their congregations cause it reminds them that black people should be pissed. It is ok for the white ministers to do it because it isn’t scary to them.
Keith was up late last night taking part in the follow-up diary he wrote on Daily Kos. Folks were teasing him about that, and about how he wasn’t going to be on his toes for the show tonight if he didn’t sign off and go to sleep.
I wonder if that’s why he’s “under the weather.”
Hey, Keith! Take care of yourself! You are a treasure to many of us, so what you do to take care of yourself has a positive effect on others, more than just yourself.
for all you Bushophiles, he’s yakking at ya on CSPAN from The Economic Club of New York City.
btw how did he get re-elected?
What I would like to see is Obama address this head on in every speech. Start off with have you ever walked out during a sermon that made you uncomfortable and go from there. We could all learn from that, IMO.
gah, i saw him snicker and turned to channel.
You said it.
They don’t like “agitated blacks,” ministers or not. The “angry black man” is a boogie man to frighten white demons of the subconscious.
heck it’s over all ready and you just missed the cheesy photo smile with Henry Kissinger.
I think it’s called bitch-slapping. I’m not sure I have the concept right (so corrections welcome), but as I understand it, you slap the bitch, and if she doesn’t fight, you do it again, only harder. This makes the bitch look weak, which is of course a prez-candidacy killer. And with the MSM so wedded to the right, it’s even more impt not to be put in the role of the bitch.
White people are scarier because they have lots of power.
I do wonder why Abramoff hasn’t “flipped”?
…oh Alison, Alison…you ain’t no Keith…and what is that dashiki you’re wearing?
I used to steal Kissinger’s blueberries when i lived in Conn. :D
He flips only to the extent he has to, which is not very much given that the prosecuters are Rs.
Lord. How I’d love to see Ralph Reed in jail.
you are naughty!
Blueberry war criminal.
Definitely OT but what did you think about todays downs and more downs on the market?
True perhaps. But he’s (Abramoff) is in jail, right?.
OT (and maybe already noted, but …)
anyone else going to watch Henry Waxman on PBS/Bill Moyers show tonight?
but she’s tons better than most of the other hosts on MSRNC. At least she’s not a rethug shill like pumpkinhead, JoeScar, Tucker and the rest.
you got that right, bitch-slapping that is. There’s also an element sadomasochism involved…the slapper loves to slap, and the bitch loves and craves being slapped…
Hey! They were orgainc! very tasty :)
I think he doesn’t want to imperil his impending pardon from Shrub, if he isn’t a good boy…!
Good news about Guam.
Marianas next? And what ever happened to the US Attorney [Black, I think] who was fired because he got too close to Abramoff in that case?
I am under the impression there’s a reason why Abramoff hasn’t flipped. And I’d like to get at that reason, presuming such a reason exists.
fund raising on ALL the Philly area PBS networks—that includes Jersey and DE. Nothing but crap on and no Moyers.
That is something new?
Americans Less Aware About Iraq
WASHINGTON – A new nationwide survey shows Americans are less aware about the number of military deaths in Iraq.
A survey by the Pew Research Center shows only 28% of people know the number of American fatalties.
Last summer nearly half of everyone interviewed knew the death tally.
As of Friday the number of military fatalities are 3,978.
March 19th will be the fifth anniversary of the U.S. moving into Iraq.
Nearly 4,000 dead American troops over five years, and people are forgetting. What the fuck happened?!
That sounds reasonable. As good a reason as perhaps as I can come up with. But are there other variables which I haven’t thought of.
Yes he’s in jail, and he has been flipped. But my comment addressed the issue of degree of flipping, which from Abramoff’s POV is the minimum he needs to do to get what he wants. Given that the “adversary” (i.e. the prosecution) is actually on the same side, they won’t demand very much info in exchange for a lot of leniency.
…on a personal note:
normally I’d be out partying on Friday night, but I love spending this evening with my FDL friends…of course this has absolutely nothing to do with the fact I’ve been sick and doc told me to take it easy…*G*…

was demoted because he got too close to some truly ugly stuff.
My guess is his pardon is guaran-damn-teed, simply because there’s SO much more he could spill. If ShrubCo, LLC, leave him in the federal country club then the floodgates would REALLY open. I don’t think they have a choice but to pardon him. He may be haggling for something else.
Masochist says to sadist: Hit me. Sadist says: No.
I’m afraid that Pastor Wright’s “god damn America” quote is going to be merged with Michelle Obama’s “first time I am proud to be American” quote.
Hannity has been all over Pastor Wright for the last two days.
What’s the diff between a Pastor and a Preacher? Obama used both terms.
hey egregious:
how’ya been? Long time no see–we haven’t been at the Lake at the same time for a while…
Does you have the flue?
the Frogmarch of DeLay will be especially delicious.
HiHo egregious!
Oh cool! I didn’t realize KO was commenting on his own diary. Regarding Rachel Maddow getting her own show he said:
“I’d be surprised if that didn’t happen eventually, in some fashion.”
Well, where better to spend time if you’re feeling poorly? You know we love you, and we won’t keep you up past your bedtime, and we won’t nag you if you decide to stay up late. Sorry you don’t feel well, but it’s almost a win-win situation! (((Biodun))) Feel better soon. That’s an order!
Alison on the Ides of March–which is tomorrow…
There seems to be various theories respective on the ultimate outcome of the Abramoff case.
Carlyle Capital is bankrupt, Bear Stearns is in pretty big trouble, and people on the street are nervous about who else will go down the tubes from overexposure to the mortgage ponzi scheme.
nah–viral infection of the worst kind…
Scootergate… De ja vu all over again…!
You want a specific? How about “God damn America.”
okay, i wanna know why it’s okay for some people to have ’opinions’ and not ok for others? is there a special pass we had to buy somewhere? it’s gettin’ old……and revealing a lot…..
a few that are getting supposed punches thrown at them are the same ones that threw a few a few threads back and many days i’ve read here, one even apologizes all the time for ’misspeaking, just an opinion, sorry’…pile-ons for no apparent reason…i don’t get it. maybe it’s the drugs in the water.
and something else i don’t ’get’…..obama says he’s a devoted christian……rev. wright is his spiritual advisor, he said that, obama i mean…….and he’s been going to his church for 20, twenty, years……..you mean to tell me that he had no clue of this man’s opinions and tactics and ways of communicating his views????????????
wake up. he’s a problem.
aw shucks…I love you all as well. FDL is defintely part of my family, even including kiddo….*G*
So, the day that the Dow jumped 400 pts, what was that about?
But today is pi-day, 3.14

It is a long term ponzi scheme. You lose your house. Have to rent a house from some investor who bought some other poor person’s lost house and charges you way high rent. Fuckery all around.
Janice is so unbelievably inspiring, even after all these years, after all the miles in between, even in death. Her performance here is breathtaking. Oh, and, by the way, Christie, I love your encyclopedic contextualization of today’s big news. I hope the burning oil and the chains are being readied to cook the whole lot of ‘em. Let it bleed.

I hope to see an add on teevee saying when bush had the opportunity to protect America, he turned it down because he couldn’t protect his buddies at the phone company. This is a prime opportunity to fry his ass on national security.
Some of, or perhaps all our speculation on Abramoff will be decided in, I belive a little less than eight months from now. Next December and the very early part of January may be critical in this aspect.
irrational hope that the feds would bail out part of the mess. Oh and arch enemy of Wall Street Spitzer being taken down I would think.
IANAG (I am not a geek). I plagarized the idea from someone who left a comment on Brian Lehrer’s (wnyc) page. But I did find the really obnoxious link myself.
not where I live. Fund raising crap.
Not every pastor is a preacher. I think the latter is a more colloquial term. Pastors can have a variety of responsibilities in addition to, or even instead of, preaching the sermon. For example, there can be a pastor whose sole responsibility is being the chaplain at the local hospital, or counseling people who are in various kinds of trouble.
Hey RevDeb, jump in here.
Wait, that’s all you got? Did you even watch the video? There are far more serious criticisms of our country’s deeds here at FDL every day. There is no way you are actually offended by that. It was a preacher (and former marine) using a play on words to criticize certain actions of our country.
Wow. I didn’t realize we all signed loyalty oaths that require us to be silent on the country’s shortcomings.
Nah, the timing of this Wright Stuff has nothing to do with Ferraro at all. Nuthin.
And of course the Clinton campaign had nuthin to do wit it either, just like in the NAFTA/Canada deal, the Obama-in-garb photo/Obama Muslim stuff, and many others.
What luck for Hillary that these things have come up at opportune times for her campaign to benefit. What coincidence(s)! Go figure…
I love pi day.
Eat some pi.
lol @ IANAG :)
sounds like g33k spirit to me!
We’re trained to do it all. Pastor is another title for a minister—usually one used in more evangelical kinds of churches. Some of us go by Rev. some by Pastor.
Kiddo can be so unruly.
L.
BTW, did you know that every measurement in the pyramids is a multiple of pi? That’s because they used a measuring wheel to mark distances.
Not to mention free speech. OK, I will mention it.
The Fed promised to make $280 billion in credit available to equity markets.
Thanks, RevDeb and egregious.
Barack Obama is coming on soon on Hannity and Colmes on FOX to discuss Wright ect.
Most offensive about Wright’s comments are that they are divisive. After listening to him the hate and resentment just grows (or festers). I’m not even black but I can tell you that hearing him made me angry at white people.
There may be truth in what he says but it doesn’t mean it’s a message that Obama wants associated with his candidacy. “yes, we can” is much better than “you’ve been screwed”. Paraphrased.
Three things I dearly love: Irrational numbers, prime numbers, and limits.
I’m particularly fond of different classes of infinity.
You got to be fucking kidding me !!!!
rev deb-waxman on moyers is a rerun-lorita doan.
fundraising here, too, and it gets worse every time. i get to go to our local pbs station and watch them do the ou newswatch show, soon..student newscast…..i watch it. will be fun.
Infinity is the most interesting thing I know of. I am incapable of really grasping the actual concept. Mathematics only gives me a faint taste for it. It is frustrating to me. To be sure.
Nope, not kidding. Obama live with Hannity on FOX minutes from now. They are playing an old interview they did with Wright from a year ago now. Obama probably next. They are showing alot more tape exerpts from Wright’s preaching as well.
Look, I have a lot more, but really what is the point? If you don’t hear it, you don’t hear it. Nothing I can say will ever convice you. But, I would guess 90% of all Americans that hear it will agree with me. Of couse, I could be wrong, but I very seriously doubt it.
I gather you’re UCC, RevDeb? So’s my family. Rev. Wright is a colleague of my (retired) father. Our congregation was one of several fosters, as it were, of young Trinity Church at it’s founding in 1961. It’s rather painful to us to see Rev. Wright presented as a caricature based on a few excerpted remarks from a long career. But he will survive it.
I know what a measuring wheel today is but just how did the Egyptian version work? Maybe I’ll go look it up before it drives me nuts trying to that one out.
Christy – If you happen to wander back to your thread here, I am not sure how much effect that Mukasey and the other DOJ misfits had on this because this indictment was handed up in the Guam state (territorial?) court, not the Federal court there. My guess is that the locals are rightfully pissed and got tired of the lack of activity by the DOJ so they decided to act on their own. That is just a wild guess though.
This is a great job Christy. Thanks. Sorry I’m so late to the thread. Was away from home until late and did not catch this until this AM.
Wanted to share a quick O/T…
Mr Klynn took me out to dinner last night. Nothing fancy — Bob Evans. The waiter looked at me and said, You look like I had had a great day.” I told him, “You are perceptive.” He asked, “Do you mind sharing what made your day?” I explained about FISA and the vote in the House. He was fascinated with the news and agreed it was good news. I shared where things will go next and he asked, “What can I do to help this?” I said, “Write letters to your Senator and to your local paper or just call and fax your Senator.” I referred him to FDL and EW.
Many overheard our conversation and many asked me questions. When I explained everything in a common sense manner of balancing security with individual rights, everyone agreed the amended legislation made sense. When I talked about how some have “couched the argument” in fear terms and explained how data was being collected and how rights were being violated, many said, “That’s just not right.”
I said I agreed and that when it comes to being a citizen in the United States of America, terror threats and all, we cannot act in a manner contra to the Constitution and fail to work for balance in security and rights. A response based in fear, that denies freedom is a slap in the face of all who fought to protect our freedoms.
Someone piped up with the ,”I have nothing to hide, they can look at all my records…” I then challenged that individual and asked if he had children. He said, “Yes, and I have grandchildren too.” I gave him some worse case scenarios of what could happen to his children or grandchildren with such illegal gathering of data. Then I shared my own story of identity theft which happened due to the Patriot Act’s invasive data gathering which made my health care information vulnerable and thus stolen and sold to a terrorist in India.
He was shocked. He was outraged. He said he was a lifelong Republican and that “that” should have never happened to me.
He then agreed, balance of security and individual rights is the best way to go. He realized no option makes us %100 safe but that an intrusive option opens doors to the government controlling us.
bmaz mentioned in an EW thread yesterday, the Dem candidates need to hit this message: that the House bill is a genuine effort to balance security and individual rights. No an attempt to manipulate with fear and invade privacy.
Bob Evans in Columbus, Ohio was an interesting spot for this to happen…
Just a story…
