Sure, I’m a little early, but who can hold back with President Rose-Colored Legacy touting his supreme fabulosity in the latest PR offensive:
…With the fifth anniversary of his invasion of Iraq coming next week, and a decision on troop cuts in Iraq on his plate, Mr. Bush used a 30-minute speech before an enthusiastic audience — the National Religious Broadcasters association — to make the case that liberty is on the march, so long as the United States does not lose its nerve.
“The decision to remove Saddam Hussein was the right decision early in my presidency,” he said, to rousing applause and a standing ovation. “It is the right decision at this point in my presidency, and it will forever be the right decision.”
The speech was the first in a series of three talks that Mr. Bush will deliver to “set the table,” in the words of one senior White House official, for the upcoming Congressional testimony of General David H. Petraeus, the top American commander in Iraq, and Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker, the top diplomat there….
Oh…it’s offensive, alright.
Greg Mitchell’s new book, So Wrong For So Long, chronicles the ineptitude and outright fabricated nonsense, pageantry, and theme music that passed for news coverage in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq and afterward. Greg will be our Book Salon guest on Sunday, and he gives a little preview of some of the media lowlights. Via Mother Jones:
Here is a list of 18 of those nearly forgotten episodes, in roughly chronological order.
1) The day before the invasion, Bill O’Reilly said, "If the Americans go in and overthrow Saddam Hussein and it’s clean, he has nothing, I will apologize to the nation; I will not trust the Bush administration again, all right?"
2) Phil Donahue lost his show at MSNBC, he later claimed, because he did not wave the flag enough. A leaked NBC memo confirmed Donahue’s suspicion, noting that the host "presents a difficult public face for NBC in a time of war…. At the same time our competitors are waving the flag at every opportunity."
3) After the fall of Baghdad, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews declared, "We’re all neocons now."
4) The same day, Joe Scarborough, also on MSNBC, said, "I’m waiting to hear the words ‘I was wrong’ from some of the world’s most elite journalists, politicians, and Hollywood types."
5) The New York Times’ Thomas Friedman wrote, "As far as I am concerned, we do not need to find any weapons of mass destruction to justify this war…. Mr. Bush doesn’t owe the world any explanation for missing chemical weapons."
6) President Bush’s comedy routine during the Radio and Television Correspondents Dinner in Washington, D.C., on March 24, 2004, included a bit about the still-missing WMD. While a slide show of the president scouring the White House was projected on the wall behind him, he joked, "Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be somewhere…Nope, no weapons over there…Maybe under here?" Most of the crowd roared, and there was little criticism in the media in following days. Mother Jones’ David Corn, then Washington editor of The Nation, was one of the few attendees to criticize the routine. Corn wondered if they would have laughed if Ronald Reagan had, following the truck bombing of our Marine barracks in Beirut, which killed 241, said at a similar dinner, "Guess we forgot to put in a stoplight."…
Yeah, I’m sure that O’Reilly apology will be coming along any day now. Especially now that there is definitive proof from the Pentagon that there was no connection whatsoever between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda. *whistles*
So Wrong For So Long — ought to be engraved over the Bush Presidential Library, don’t you think? With neon letters for nighttime. Maybe they can add a wing for exceptional press corp ass puckery…

‘morning, Redd – coffee is perking…
can I just say I am endlessly sick of George Bush?
gah!
Impeach!
I, second that, OldCoastie.
yeah Christy, a little early…*g* I take it everything is hunk-dory in the Redd household, including The Peanut and all..
…hunky-dory…
Good morning, pups!
Greetz!
tommy yum! howya doing?
Good Morning Christy!
tears for fears!
Morning all — had to run The Peanut to preschool this morning. Damn daylight savings time has thrown all of us off and we overslept for the first time all year…and she missed the bus. Can I just say, early morning parental parking lot navigation without sufficient coffee is not fun?
An illegal occupation all for nothing which is exactly what the neocons in the White House wanted from Day 1 in January 2001.
Yep, everything is going well. The Peanut got her lovely long hair trimmed into a stylish bob yesterday, and she’s very excited to go and show it off to all her pals. She picked out a haircut picture and took it with her to the stylist…very cute.
We’re building up in Philly towards the anniversary of that monumental crime by putting on about 48 (If I’ve counted correctly) vigils and observances and actions, besides which we’re advocating a Moratorium at http://www.ufpj-dvn.org/
The idea on the Moratorium is two-fold. One, take as much time off from contributing to th ecnmy as you can possibly spare on the 19th and Two, tell everybody why you’re not at your usual post, performing your usual duties.
Did you see the footage this morning on CNN showing a guy blowing through a red light and narrowly squeezing through the cars who had the green light and who proceeded like nothing unusual had happened? No? It made me think of you right now. LOL
I say never do anything without a proper coffee dose… sorry you did not have that chance!
Words to live by!
I almost got into a wreck this morning — someone trying to pull out into traffic and not really looking. In case anyone is wondering, the CR-V? It has excellent maneuverability. Had I been in my old, clunky tank-like 1996 Chevy van? I would have been filling out an accident form about being broadsided. All hail the new car…first brand new one I’ve ever owned in my whole life, and this morning, I’m awfully glad we bought it!
Yeah, waking up late suxors.
Morning all :)
I must have missed this in Feb..
‘SAN ANTONIO, Texas — U.S. Air Force Gen. Gene Renuart, commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command, and Canadian Air Force Lt.-Gen. Marc Dumais, commander of Canada Command, have signed a Civil Assistance Plan that allows the military from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation during a civil emergency.’
http://www.northcom.mil/News/2008/021408.html
yup – many of the new cars are really terrific that way… I bought a little one in 2005 that has the anti-lock brakes… came in handy more than once… a huge improvement over the old fashioned vehicles…
glad you aren’t filling out accident forms too.
How long will it be before Fallon tells all?
The front page graphic on MoJo. Just the opposite of patriot blogger CHS!
I will say, though, that it was definite wake up shot of adrenaline, even without the caffeine…
Good driving Christy, glad your safe!
Watch out mom, the next the you know, it’s shaving legs, car keys and prom dresses. I know, you’ve some years for all that, but,
as I was reading your post, I couldn’t help thinking (snarkily), my, my how time flies when you’re having fun.
(But, I’m not getting older as fast as everyone else – oh, man, am I in denial.)
Total luck — all hail peripheral vision, long may it work. *g*
Tears for Fears . . .
Quite apt.
Primal Scream Therapy for all.
Relief for the past 8 years.
And now, 5 years later we have…
O’Liely, Scar & Tweety making more money & getting more air time than ever.
The 6 month mustache getting over 50 grand per speaking engagement.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, has anyone even seen Phil Donahue lately?
And don’t forget nice, speedy reflexes! Glad you’re okay, with no fender-bender.
If you had seen her primping her new hair-do this morning, you’d think the prom dresses were just around the corner. She’ll be five next week — how is it possible that my tiny baby girl has gotten so big so quickly? After the years of fertility work we had to do to get her, I want her to stay this small forever…but watching her grow and get more confident and gain independence is awfully fun, too.
Or how about Aaron Brown?
Listening to Sinatra here this morning. What’s everyone else got on today?
Good Morning, Christy…et al…
Feeling nostalgic for the Phil Donahue show. I learned so much from him–and the generation after us has really missed a show that actually taught them to think…
Oh.my.God.
“Or how about Aaron Brown?“
He and Phil are probably sharing the same cell in Darth’s basement.
Yeah — the Friedman quote was really a classic. I may have to just randomly use it in posts for the next month. *g*
It’s so poignant, especially in today’s political climate. Now, I’m sitting here with tears. Truly. But, as one of my kids called them when they were little, they’re happy tears.
God bless all of our children.
Have a great day all. Time for me to hit the LA freeways.
Ta.
and the democrats BETTER be ready;
“are you saying that you would have gone to war even if you knew as a fact the information you were using to begin your invasion was false?
“you used information that you knew was forged, you would have taken this country into war even if you saw it being forged yourself?
“you promised a short war, greated with candy and flowers, you promised a few billion in treasure at the most, you promised lower fuel costs, you promised a more stable middle east
all of your promises were worthless, if you knew they would be worthless, would you still take us into war?
are you really saying you would have gone into war even if you knew every thing you said are the reasons were false?
and you are now saying that you are proud of these false promises, you are proud of your decision?
is it possible at all for you to be wrong about anything?”
man, I could type for days how the democats BETTER respond to this morons statments concerning the war

Don Fagen’s ‘Morph the Cat’ on the way to work.
Here’s another of Greg’s bits that long-time readers will know and loathe:
8) When the New York Times carried its now-famous editors’ note on May 26, 2004, admitting some errors in its WMD coverage, it appeared on page A10 and Judith Miller’s name was nowhere to be found. The note is often described today as an “apology,” but it was no such thing. On the day it ran, Executive Editor Bill Keller, not exactly chastened, called criticism of the Times’ coverage “overwrought” and said that the main reason it even published the note was because the controversy had become a “distraction.”
I know the source is a bit dubious, but there is so much that doesn’t add up about the Spitzer thing/timing etc..
Was Spitzer going after Larry Silverstein/Carlyle/9/11?
Was that why he was targeted?
http://inpursuitofhappiness.wo…..destroyed/
have a good one, Demi.
Hooray for our side! The ActBlue effort started just yesterday to raise funds to run ads against BlueDog Democrats on the FISA issue is only a few hundred dollars short of $40,000. Great work, everyone.
Raising my cuppa to ya, OC.
Teach them children well today. I know you will. :)
Some 5-year anniversry. From the Beeb:
drive carefully! its still awful damn dark out there…
(we get up too early!)
Yes, demi, God bless the children.
got your comment last thread…LOL!! I just assumed..mea culpa…
Here’s another classic from Greg — this one about the WaPo:
9) Likewise, it’s often said that the Washington Post also issued an apology. But the criticism of its prewar coverage came not in an editors’ statement but in an article by the paper’s media critic, Howard Kurtz. Post editors offered several defenses for the coverage and top editor Len Downie argued that it didn’t make much difference anyway, because tougher coverage would not have stopped the war.
Cool, i had wanted an update. Which bluedog is most disliked from the vote count?
Dark, pitch black, but, pulling in to work in Malibu Canyon while the sun is rising is a pretty cool way to start the day. Gorgeous.
Morning Christy and the Push backers on the lake.

yup. I actually like this time of day… masochistic as it is.
We need the Fairness Doctrine reinstated. Now.
MSNBC…and some Lucky Dube (raggae) and Salif Keita…Senegal. SanderO would know who they are…
Especially the little ones suffering directly from that awful, damn war.
Oh, fine, how can I put my make up on with all these tears?
I haven’t been able to find the results. Maybe Christie can give us a report.
Here’s a horror story about an Alabama county and its economic woes:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03…..2bama.html
Haven’t Googled this guy Langford but, based on the last paragraph, would assume (and hope) he’s got an “R” after his name. Maybe one of the AL pups will know.
Yes, Virginia, it does matter who gets elected downstream.
Nope — you don’t want me touching anything tech — trust me. Jane will likely have an update later. I’m not even sure where I’d look to check it, frankly. *g* And I’d need at least one more cuppa coffee to go looking…
Bless your heart…and all the hearts of the peacemakers everywhere…
bom dia, pups
I hope all had a pleasant night of sleep. Mr wobbs has made his coffee and I’m off for a walk/run with the furry baby (dog). See you all in a bit.
I don’t know enough about the layout of the SMU campus, but perhaps the SMU faculty who are upset that they will be hosting the library could put the sign on the building OPPOSITE the new Bush PL, so that the patrons of the library could see the neon flashing in at them through the windows.
Maybe engrave it in all the sidewalks leading up to the library.
Perhaps put up a pedestal in the quad, with a statue of GWB that’s halfway pulled down.
Or they could put up a statue with Keith Olbermann, facing the Bush PL (to keep an eye on things) engraved with the words “Good night, and good luck.”
“got your comment last thread…LOL!! I just assumed..mea culpa…”
Just another “lucky” brougham in the heezy!
(With no apology to Mrs. Ferraro)
No problem. I think I’ll finish off the pot here.
That’s what Mary Ann said.
Hola Amigos!
And so it begins. 5-6 weeks of fuckery from the MSM and their agents regarding the PA primary.
I began adjusting my meds after the WY caucuses.
Sorry to hear you’re under the weather, Bio.
Christy, I am smiling as I envision the newly-coifed Peanut. :)
Oh, spit! According to wiki he’s a “D”.
LOL!
But a “D” in Alabama is an “R” in the real world.
If there is a ‘Catastrophe’ just Who would be in charge and for how long?
‘No longer do Capitol Hill legislators need a quorum to do the people’s business. Now under a piece of hotly contested legislation passed without media attention on Jan. 5, only a few members of Congress are needed to do official business in the event of a catastrophe instead of the usual 218.
Critics claim H. Res. 5 paves the way for tyranny, allowing “only a few to decide for so many.”’
http://www.americanfreepress.n…..msday.html
Another childhood crush up in smoke.
Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip . . .
So many snarky lines, so little time… *g*
Back in the autumn of 2002, I turned on CNN to see them running promos touting their new ‘war specialists’ — many of them retired generals and so on. Spiffy new graphics, theme songs, and catch-phrases.
I turned to my partner and said, “That’s it. Bush is gonna have his war, no matter what.”
“Why?” she asked.
“Because the media believes it’ll be great for ratings. They’ve got no reason not to beat the war drums for everything they’re worth. And they don’t give a damn how many people get killed as a result.”
I think that the George Walker Bush Presidential Library needs something to make it stand out, not just from all the other buildings at SMU, but from the other presidential libraries. For instance, the Reagan library has the old Air Force One airplane inside it. Bush needs something at his library that people would look at and say, “Gosh, that really sums up the presidency of GWB.”
How about Rose Colored Windows?
Rare Earth’s 20th Century Masters.
Thanks–am feeling much better today…the cough’s still nasty…though…
For real? Six weeks of fuckery indeed. And there will be aplenty…for “lucky” African-American males…or for women of all races…according to…an ethnic Italian-American woman from Queens, NY, my aunt’s hometown, where circa 45 different languages are spoken.
Look: Ms. Ferraro knowsof what she speaks…
OT, but I just can’t help it.
Chuck Todd (who, for some reason I remember as former Rethug shill) just offered up this sterling example of contrived MSM “balance.”
“So you have Ferraro saying that Obama’s only where he is because he’s African American, and then you’re gonna potentially have supporters of Obama’s say ‘You know what? Hillary Clinton wouldn’t be where she is if it wasn’t for her last name or who she’s married to which some would say is a sexist thing to say…..’”
WTF is this? Potentially?
There’s no balance here, she said something stupid and that’s that.
She needs to remove herself from the campaign.
Ok, another suicide?
‘A senior bodyguard to the Duchess of Cornwall has been found dead after apparently shooting himself.’

Good Morning People, I am a long time “lurker” first time commenter. I just want to say thank you to the community here for being the most civilized site on the “internets” This site makes for a pleasant morning read before heading off to the fray. Intelligent reporting and analysis, great comments and a noticeable lack of trolls. Thank you again. Peace to you all on your journeys. PaytonsOpa
…methinks most of this morning, Mika at MSNBC will alternate between writing a hapless Eliot Spitzer’s obit to replaying a clueless tape of said Ms Ferraro’s clueless comments about lucky members of certain races…
So coffee? Or prescribed meds? Or both?
Well thanks Payton, I do what I can!
And since I’ve already gone OT, could someone point me to where Mrs. Ferraro’s remarks were commented on here at the Lake?
I’m sure she got “lathered up” somewhere, but I seemed to have missed it.
Welcome, PaytonsOpa!
Don’t be a stranger on the threads — feel free to toss in your own two cents as well!
Correx: She’s actually not officially part of the campaign, but sits on its finance committee, which then makes her part of the campaign? I dunno…
Peace to you as well. And let’s hope the efforts here spread peace a bit further.
Hi :)
The commenting thing becomes a habit really quickly…:)
Actually I am Paytons Opa, Opa is I believe, a Dutch term for Grandpa. Payton is my beautiful ( month old granddaughter.
Good grief! What is that, three now?
Good Morning PaytonsOpa, nice to meet you.
and congratulations on the weePayton!
no exclusive FDL thread on this one…so you have comb through every post after Ms Ferraro held forth, press the Control key and then the F key. Then type in Ferraro in the box, and then press Find next….
You know the whole ‘big brother thing’ is getting really scary..
‘The United States and Germany will share some biometric information in their respective fingerprint databases, officials from both countries announced today.’

BREAKING–from MSNBC
hapless Eliot to resign at 11 AM ET—
Yeah, it took Geraldine Ferraro to remind me just how lucky you AA guys are in this country. :( Apparently, her hatred and bigotry hasn’t been limited to Senator Obama. She spewed the same filth toward Jackson during his failed run. Her claim of reverse-discrimination is deplorable.
ot – Even though I hit “remember login” on the computer, I have to log in each time. Is that my computer doing that? Also, how does one change the password?
Geraldine Ferraro still has some muscle?
Sheesh.
The political equivalent of a leisure suit.
Adult ADD..Too many things pop up and I’ve always shared easily..Of course maybe I should stop and have more coffee, it slows me down…
I think you need to enable cookies for the site for it to remember you.
..and oh, just in case there’s any doubt: I feel extremely lucky to be a black male in good ol’ US of A….
On Hard Ball last night, Andrea Mitchell said that Ferarro’s first comment was actually made after Obama won the Iowa caucuses. I wondered why we didn’t hear of them until two days ago.
Anyway, I’m really getting worried about the racial and gender divisions in this campaign. To the extent someone is using them as a tactic, they are playing around with our party, our country, and our children’s lives.
Well congrats on the little Payton and welcome to the lake!
So where’s the pay-off for the American people?
— Are we now safer?
— Are we wealthier?
— Are we freer?
— Are we more respected throughout the Word?
— Are there fewer terrorists out to get us?
— Are our roads and bridges in better shape?
Opps, were you talking about the latest ’suicide’?
Going to indulge myself in some I-told-you-sos. (Wasn’t hanging out on FDL in 02, so these are directed to the ether, not to the folks here.)
I knew, almost to a certainty, that there were no WMDs in Iraq and no AQ connection. Mainly because I read the (laughingly-referred-to-as) evidence, on which there were only about 4 stories (e.g., yellowcake, AL tubes, meeting in Prague), and it all crumbled to dust when you touched it. It was amazing how difficult it was to convince people who I used to think were smart and sensible. For example, the person who I respect the most, used to email me every time Judith Miller reported finding a rusty container after the invasion, with “They found it.” Furthermore, did anyone think the hot-and-cold-running inspectors went to the 200 (or 400, or whatever it was) places LEAST likely to have WMDs first? It was so obvious, just couldn’t figure out how anyone could be fooled.
Also was appalled that the U.S. govt would perpetrate such a fraud on us. Never thought I’d live to see that day.
Then there was the (”inevitable”) war. I also knew that the invasion would be a cakewalk and the aftermath a nightmare. The cakewalk part was disputed by a high school classmate of mine who had been arrested in the Dr. Spock flap during Vietnam. I thought he was nuts, but in respect for his anti-war credentials, didn’t join the issue.
The nightmare aftermath was just as foreseeable as the disaster that awaits that associated with the bombing of Iran. Though I could barely find Iraq on a map in the summer of 02, my quick study taught me that it consisted out some groups held together by dictatorship. According to Sandra Mackey, it was too old (70 years) to fly apart, and too disparate to stay together.
I couldn’t figure out how the insurgency would play out in a desert rather than a jungle, but I felt it somehow would.
My only hope was that it would turn out badly enough soon enough that W wouldn’t get reelected. That was the part of the forecast I missed, because I didn’t know about Rove’s voter fraud back then. I did know it would have to be an anyone-but-Bush election, and Kerry’s campaign proved that one out.
…and Hillary needs to distance herself from Ferraro’s pronouncements immediately, which she hasn’t quite done yet, as far as I’m concerned…
So where’s the pay-off for the American people?
Dunno.
What corporate board to you sit on?
Glad your feeling better, Biodun. As for Ms. Ferraro’s statement about lucky folks (be they black men or women of color) and I being part of that lot, I may head for the sake bottle with a nyqil chaser
seriously.
Is Iraq or Iraqis even better off?
do you sit on?
escusa.
IIRC, “Gilligan” had the same problem a while back.
No wonder they screwed up a “three hour tour”
I’d love to see Keith Olbermann do a list like Greg’s to
celebratecommemorate the fifth anniversary of Teh Invasion.Keith does the “I told you so” thing very, very well.
yeah, and the one black senator and black governor are lucky too!! don’t your forget it *rolls eyes*
lmao!
Anyway, I’m really getting worried about the racial and gender divisions in this campaign.
Yep. Some of us predicted this, and warned about it a while back. The Third Rail of Identity Politics in the US. And if this keeps up it ain’t gonna be pretty. Play identity politics at your own peril, I say…
NO, NO, NO, darlin’. I wasn’t referring to the number of times you were posting….b/c of *my* adult dementia, was just trying to remember how many articles there have been recently about Brit law officers who have *died* in a similar manner.
One of the reasons I love the Lake so much is b/c of all the linkys people share that I would never have seen otherwise.
The pay-off for the Bush family is that their trust accounts have grown fantastically. Real Mission Accomplished.
Thanks…
LOL! You said it first. Actually, there’s a Japanese restaurant about three blocks from my building in the Warehouse District…
We are going to be in Iraq until our economy and the Federal Budget are busted. I don’t see any other way out, even given the substantial majority of Americans who want out. Unless the MSM turn against the war — of which there is as yet no sign — too many politicians will be afraid of the ‘who lost Iraq’ backlash that is sure to come. Better to lose it fair and square by humiliating defeat.
We are not the first nation to screw up on this scale. The Spaniards did when they intervened in the 30 Years War; the French did when they tried to conquer the Netherlands and impose their will on the Palatinate in the second half of the seventeenth century. Those were long-running energy and will-sapping conflicts that had no exit.
The overriding concern is to keep our defeat from going nuclear. The United States are not used to losing wars, and they are not used to negotiating armistices or truces. Since the Mexican War, for us it’s been all or nothing, and except for Korea and Vietnam, we always got our all.
The young people have reason to think that my generation screwed up. That’s why they are supporting Obama. Mrs Clinton is part of the screw-up.
It’s breaking my heart but mr wobs pointed out something to me last night as I was cuddling with the pup trying to get rid of my sour mood. This is a bigger fight over the future of the party; between the old democratic party and the one that has been trying to imerge for some time now. The old democratic machine versus the grassroots. Exclusion vs inclusion
My objections were slightly different. Primarily, I agreed with the earlier Bush/Powell/Cheney rationale for not occupying Iraq after the Gulf War. I didn’t think we needed our own Gaza. Clinton Administration had maintained No-fly zones and fired missiles anytime our aircraft were locked onto. I didn’t know what research they might be doing on nukes, but knew there was no like to 9/11 or Ossama Bin Laden. Saddam Hussein wouldn’t have risked losing control to anyone.
At one point, when the arms inspectors were let in again, I thought begrudgingly that Bush and the Congressional approval may have pulled off a successful bluff. When the threats and ultimata continued, it was reminsicent of Hitler’s toward Czechoslovakia and Poland, it became apparent that we were going to war regardless. I couldn’t believe it. Even our entry into Vietnam was consistent with the then policy of containment. For the first time, I thought, we’re becomming the bad guys, the threat to other countries that we used to think the USSR was.
Imus..I should switch to your choice. He is BORING now!!
Pam Spaulding had a great run-down on the Ferraro issue yesterday — missed it while I was getting The Peanut enrolled in kindergarten, but just catching up on it now…for whomever up thread was looking for it.
HRC distance herself??? Not gonna happen. In fact, HRC and her handlers more than likely gave Geraldine a push in that direction, just a gentle push cuz it doesn’t appear from her previous comments that she needed much help.
The ever-widening racial divide in this competition is testament to the limited social advances this country has made. Very sad indeed.
Now that Fallon is gone, will there be anyone at the Pentagon with enough guts to prevent Bush from bombing Iran in the 313 days he has left in office? That would be a hell of a way to “celebrate” the 5th anniversary of such as success – start another war. Scary.
Good morning. This is early for me. I am fortified with two cups of strong tea so I’m ready for the day.
The DNC machine fray seems to be torn up. The status quo just isn’t working. I think gender vs. race is a straw dog argument. The grassroots underground, now above ground, has come into its own and will not be submerged and compromised again. I find Hillary and Obama would be better labeled as “then vs. now”. “DNC machine vs. grassroots”. People just don’t give up and go backwards without a serious fight.
Hillary really is out of touch with the grassroots if she thinks using the “boxed” tactic is a way to convince a movement that their choice of Obama is wrong. The people learned a lot from Karl Rove. She can keep calling Obama veep until the cows come home and it will just fuel the movement that is the force behind Obama.
Her tactics are really amateurish and rather adolescent. If she thinks that by suggestion I’ll follow her blindly, man, she needs to get a whole new team around.
In summary, they are really desperate. The good side is, this is nothing compared to what the RNC is planning.
but sits on its finance committee, which then makes her part of the campaign? I dunno…
How can you be on the finance cmte. and not be part of the campaign?
Christy -
I’m sorry to hear about your near miss this morning. You don’t have to be in first gear to get creamed. Yesterday, I spent the day working on a settlement with an insurance company from an accident last year. I, along with other cars next to me, was sitting at a red light at a major intersection. The drug driver of a pickup plowed into the rear of my car because he didn’t see the red light (red for at least half a minute), the cross traffic moving, others cars slowing as they approached the light. $14,000 in damages and all the hassles dealing with an insurance company, I’m still dealing with it. Did I mention he was speeding when my car became his breaks? At this age, my body just can’t be a battering ram.
And Spitzer is resigning. Announcement will be made this morning.
Surely these guys realize international treaties aren’t for military commanders to forge.
Last year Helen Thomas asked George W. Bush why, after all the other reasons given for the war were proven to be wrong or lies, we were in Iraq. Bush simply said, next question and ignored her.
They have no answer for why we’re in perpetual war mode.
Maybe a little political tin ear-ish, but ‘clueless’? I don’t think so. This whole question of sexism & racism and identity politics is important.
Of course, the perhaps more important question is whether Obama’s Republican “supporters” will vote for him in the general election or return to being loyal Republicans and vote for McCain. Does Obama really have the majority of Dems in his corner or should Hillary be the real nominee?
The more they argue over sexism and racism the more I wonder what that has to do with being a Democrat and what policies they’re supposedly going to offer those supporters which they wouldn’t offer to the entire nation.
John Edwards for President — Leadership for everybody!
I didn’t see any ‘hatred and bigotry’. All I read was that he was getting the Black vote and he was lucky that this year there was enough of a split White vote that this Black support was making him competetive. Isn’t the same basically true of Hillary and the female voters?
All this name-calling towards Ferraro isn’t good. I thought we Democrats weren’t afraid of words.
There’s an SNL skit in there somewhere. Heh!
And, won’t we all be surprised when advisers from both campaigns talk privately to journalists about their growing doubts that we should leave Iraq (after all).
Progressives they aren’t.
Yeah, you can label them that way, but once you get past gender and race and labels you might see they really aren’t that different. Even the pundits now are saying there’s hardly any difference in their policies.
I wonder which will be first to publicly say we’re going to have to reconsider leaving Iraq. That would certainly make it more clear which, if either, is the “now”.
