His Grandma Julia is a legend; unfortunately, she hung on to her seat a little too long, well after her health (and, frankly, some of her political judgment) started to fail her, thus alienating some of her rightful loyalists and probably diminishing the chances of a lasting family political legacy. Still, though, a Republican winning that seat, even in a special election, would have been a pretty big deal.</p> <p>I know several folks in the 7th who have confided to me that they voted for Andre in the special but have every intention of voting him out in the primary in May, but I think that that is more of a reflection of lingering resentment of Grandma and Andre’s relative lack of experience than anything nefarious.</p> <p>Should be an interesting election…</p> He is indeed black – hence the most excellent “lucky” snark.
