Carney took our money and support, and he said he’d vote for the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Bill when asked. Then, after being elected to Congress, he voted against the bill and made noises about “creating special classes” of Americans.

I wish you are right, Teddy, but I can’t tell you how many people I’ve personally heard say that they don’t care if the government eavesdrops on their conversations or whatever. How I think the money should be spent: we want to inflict fear, and we want to either get them to change or be replaced.

If the person with the most points gets the ads in his/her district, then:
Points for anyone who has a viable primary challenger. Points for anyone who’s clearly to the right of his/her district. Negative points for someone in such a secure position that he/she’ll laugh it off.

I don’t really know these guys, but since you say Boswell’s got a primary challenger, I picked him. That way the money goes double: it makes the point that he’s kowtowing to the telecoms, and it helps his opponent.

I have known Scott for several years, he comes to Phoenix frequently and when I was stationed in Greece, Scott was stationed in Turkey with the best man from my wedding. Not all military should be gaged by the Colin Powell standard.

Foster, a Democratic scientist/businessman, won a special election Saturday to replace retired former Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) in the House. He was sworn into his seat representing the exurban 14th Congressional District on Tuesday afternoon. By evening, he was casting what was arguably the deciding vote on a white-hot ethics bill.

The bill, pushed aggressively by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), creates an independent, outside panel to investigate ethics complaints against House members. The House approved it last night, 229-182, with most Democrats in favor and most Republicans opposed. That margin is deceptive: Before final passage, the bill first had to clear a much closer procedural vote, which gave House members a chance to kill the idea without, technically, voting against it.

The bill survived that test by a single vote, with Foster voting in favor.

The Cushing Spot price for crude oil (the American benchmark price) closed today at $109.92/bbl, this despite the fact that the weekly EIA report out today shows that stocks of crude oil increased by 6.2 million bbls last week and are now in the upper levels of the average range. Gasoline inventories also increased by 1.7 million bbls. What this says is that the price is out of wack with the market fundamentals. No surprise really since this is all about speculation driven by hedge funds and abetted by a compliant Bush Administration.

Actually, I thought I would, but I didn’t so much. I think when we had one I used it only about twice a year. My ex and I worked different shifts; me on days; he on nights. When I got off work, I didn’t much feel like making dinner, feeding the animals and then going in the pool. It was expensive and time and energy consuming in cleaning. I much prefer a computer and bubble baths.

Providing for consideration of the Senate amendment to the bill (H.R. 3773) to amend the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 to establish a procedure for authorizing certain acquisitions of foreign intelligence, and for other purposes

Provides for consideration of the Senate amendment to H.R. 3773.

Makes in order a motion by the chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary to concur in the Senate amendment with the amendment printed in the report of the Rules Committee accompanying the resolution.

Waives all points of order against the motion except those arising under clause 10 of rule XXI.

Provides that the Senate amendment and the motion shall be considered as read.

Provides one hour of debate on the motion, with 40 minutes equally divided and controlled by the chairman and ranking minority member of the Committee on the Judiciary and 20 minutes equally divided and controlled by the chairman and ranking minority member of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.

Provides that, notwithstanding the operation of the previous question, the Chair may postpone further consideration of the motion to a time designated by the Speaker.

if i read this correctly, the house will be considering the senate bill? telecom immunity and all? not the proposed fisa legislation that glenn has been reporting on?

I was stationed in Greece when Iran fell and during the embassy hostage situation. My ex was part of the middle east listening post (spy guys) for the USAF. I saw the political situation up close and personal…. had many American workers who were in Iran sleeping on my floor after the airlift evacuation.

The whole middle east situation is because the good old USA cannot keep their big fat nose out of their business.

They have to snatch some of the leverage (borrowing power) away from these hedge funds that are gaming the system.

Our economy is either teetering on or currently in recession. To allow this to continue is mind boggling.

I think you should have been doing this when there was a chance to elect a better dem for the primary. Now that some of these folks have won their primaries, the only thing you are doing is making it easier for them to be defeated by the republican in the GE. And if you think that they are no better than what the republican could be, I don’t agree.

I’m late to this thread, and these days it’s pretty clear that very few people on any progressive blogs give a shit about questions like what’s possible, but I just vote for whoever we can unseat. Better still, whoever we can unseat and replace with a progressive. Come up with progressive alternatives to Carney and Shuler, and I’d be for opposing them. If they’re not, then pick the one we can win. That appears to be Boswell.

Be smart. Pick your battles. The more you win, the more the other retrogrades will start watching behind them.

why isn’t Sylvester Reyes on the list? if not, got to get rid of Shuler. Imagine someone that has had their head beaten up so many times voluntarily. It is like McStrayCoque trying to make sense of reality. He just doesn’t have the cognitive ability any longer

I don’t really know enough about the reps on your list to make an informed decision on who to vote for. I assume you know something about these people and I trust your judgement, so which one would you vote for? And, why not target them all?
