David Gregory is the journalist you've chosen to take over Tucker Carlson's slot at the network, just as Karl Rove's role in the Don Siegelman prosecution comes clear for America? Just as the House of Representatives moves to sue Harriet Miers and Josh Bolten for civil contempt in the USAttorney firings? Just as Karl Rove joins the Double Talk Express as an adviser?
Yup.
MSNBC said this afternoon that it was canceling “Tucker,” the low-rated, early evening program led by Tucker Carlson, and replacing it with a new, politically oriented program featuring David Gregory, chief White House correspondent of NBC News.
I suppose we have to be happy with three steps forward (firing Tucker) and two steps back (replacing him with David Gregory). Oh, wait --
MSNBC also said that Andrea Mitchell, a veteran political correspondent for both the cable channel and NBC News, would lead another new campaign-oriented program, this one to be shown beginning at 1 p.m. weekdays.
Another really smart move, showcasing Mrs Greenspan just as the American economy falls down to its knees around the housing bubble stoked by her own husband's Fed policies.
Doesn't anyone at MSNBC have Rachel Maddow's agent on speed dial? Is David Shuster still in the "Chelsea pimp" doghouse? David Gregory and Andrea Mitchell bring with them their own taint of current newsmaker.
Can't you do better?

zed!
David Gregory. I am seriously underwhelmed.
Cable news is consistent. Consistently unable to achieve journalistic integrity, that is.
Yawn.
they could do better but why bother
guess we should count ourselves lucky that we have KO
slowly but surely they will come around to the dark side *g*
I’m still hoping to see David Gregory lose on “Dancing with Stars”.
David Gregory is boring - he drones.
David Gregory is a puke.
WE WANT RACHEL!
“…the Stars”
I like David Gregory. . .so there.
Every time I see David Gregory, I think of MCRove.
Eh, the big can o “Tucker-b-gone” finally took, thank god.
Gregory won’t last for the same reason he was so easily punked by Howard Dean the other day. In a nutshell: Gregory is one of those special flavors of wunderkind who has come to believe his own bullshit on the one hand and, on the other hand, continues to think that everyone else does too.
You can’t call it “reporting,” Davey, when it is so blatantl petitio principii at best and poorly formed opinion at worst!
People would whine if they put St Francis of Assisi on!
Gee Teddy, now why would you think that MC Rove’s back-up singer might not be suitable in a supposed news slot?
I can’t imagine how such a thought would enter your mind. /s
I liked him till I saw him dancing with Karl Rove. I have never been able to lose that image.
Doesn’t anyone at MSNBC have Rachel Maddow’s agent on speed dial?
goddammit.
Though I must admit, I like Shuster right where he is, in the field getting the *real* stories, and occasionally making JoeScar’s head explode.
If Rachel had been given a slot, she would have been unrepentantly progressive - can’t have that, now can we?
But David Gregory, having shown his willingness to dance with “M.C. Rove”, now there’s a solid middle-of-the-road guy, right?
OT, Spew Warning;
Saxby…is a very courageous man. I know that because he’s one of my hunting buddies. Los Angeles Times blogs
-Dick Cheney, on Sen. Saxby Chambliss
Maybe it’s a senority thing, and management decided to give thema chance? They will both fail, imo.
WOULD NOT! You get me St. Franny and I promise to STFU
I have a lot of respect for David Gregory. Few announcers are permitted to say whatever they want, KO being an obvious exception.
What are the characteristics of St. Francis OA that would make people whine? *g*
Well, egregious, (and Raven), your opinion caries a lot of weight with me, so I’ll suspend judgement.
Rachel Maddow? The Obama shill? So much for wanting fair and balanced.
They will both fail, imo.
I think that Mrs. Greenspan has shown that that is no impediment at MSNBC.
Uh, earth to Marge, that “fair and balanced” crap is Fox.
Mr. Greenspan (Mr. Bubble) showed that failure was no impediment at the Federal Reserve.
I could care less about “balance”. I’m sick of “fair and balanced”.
Just the truth, please, UNBALANCED by anything else.
I’ve heard Rachel call out Obama when he got whiney about Clinton’s tax records.. she’s not all that “shill-ish”
Mr. Greenspan (Mr. Bubble) showed that failure was no impediment at the Federal Reserve.
Ain’t it wonderful to see the perfect couple? An ideal match in every way.
And as an added bonus, they cannot procreate.
It should be obvious that MSNBC should have replaced Tucker with me. It’s felt I would have brought a certain ambiance, savoir faire, sophistication and flavor.
kiddo, you would be gone after the first show, but nobody involved would ever forget the experience. *G*
Never underestimate the capabilities of modern science; but, I would agree the odds are slim, thankfully so.
Mr. Greenspan does seem to bring to the table the simple fact that she is really old. This appears to be really handy in waxing nostalgic about the reporting circumstances in the great days of Hoover and all, but mostly her opinions on current events seem to suck the big one pretty hard.
This pretty much sums up my impression of Mrs. and Mr. Clinton:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/.....90632.html
But if they could procreate, one must go to Shaw’s, “But madam, suppose the child had my looks and your brains?” Can you imagine a human with his looks and her brains?
I would love to see Amy Goodman on a major network.
brutal.
It should be obvious that MSNBC should have replaced Tucker with me. It’s felt I would have brought a certain ambiance, savoir faire, sophistication and flavor.
A massive write-in movement is most certainly called for… And Lahoma’s role would be?…
Great post
Gregory is a low rent loser who settled for the Shrubian nickname of
Stretch II…not even good enough for a unique same. Although there is a lot of similarity between Sammons and Gregory besides their height…right wing talking points have been their paycheck.
Mackrel Snapper
Can you imagine a human with his looks and her brains?
At that point, I question the use of the word “human”.
She’s replacing Andrea Mitchell.
Hey, I didn’t notice any dooms-dayers posting the stock market ticker today.
ah, well then. *Two* massive write-in campaigns…
Voter Fraud hearings:

Lahoma can replace kiddo after he gets fired after the first show.
CNN reporting Spitzer has stepped down.
dammit, now they’re waffling…hold on this…
I kinda see this as “3 steps forward, 2 back” as well.
Gregory sometimes comes up with a good question, but fails to do any follow up. It’s almost like he’s out to get the “street cred” for being tough but not do anything that would damage his prospects for those State Dinner invitations.
Now that he’s gonna have time to follow up if he cares to, we’ll soon see what bag he’s in.
“Bag he’s in.” If the name “Sly & The Family Stone” means anything to you, you’ll get the reference.
If not, well, ya just had to be there.
This is exactly my perception, worded better than I could have. Thanks.
…but not do anything that would damage his prospects for those State Dinner invitations.
And right there, you have identified why, any time I see a shot of a reporter speaking while standing in front of the White House, I immediately discount - no, ignore actually, whatever it is that he or she may be saying.
The more I read about the Spitzer thing, the more I think he should stick it out and personally try to get to the bottom of who, how, and why they really spied on him, and who leaked his name to the media. On his personal note, that is between him and his family.
Though I firmly believe that what consenting adults do sexually beyond the view of the public, is a right of privacy, I just as firmly think my party needs to put Spitzer behind us. The sooner the better.
“I could care less about “balance”. I’m sick of “fair and balanced”.
Just the truth, please, UNBALANCED by anything else.”
What a truly novel concept.
That is so far, far away from what we have to endure from the MSM.
I love’s everday people
yea yea
My daughter (21) and I heard “Pappa’s Got a Brand New Bag” on the radio about a month ago. She asked me what that meant, and I knew, but couldn’t really explain it well. You really did have to be there!
Well, it does help when the Fed leaps into coporate welfare mode and exchanges 200 billion dollars worth of our good cash for private firms bad debt.
I mean Wall Street aint getting stuck with that tab.

OT: Donita Sparks just had her new CD reviewed on NPR’s Fresh Air show today! Check it out!
Good catch!
We are in the run-up to the presidency. By opting to rid ourselves of Spitzer, we show the Republicans up for their hypocrisy, vis-a-vis Larry Craig.
That video makes me physically ill. There’s the whole MC Rove thingie, but you know what also gets me? I’m pretty sure my friends and I came up with better raps in the 6th grade lunchroom.
YEEECH.
The more I read about the Spitzer thing, the more I think he should stick it out and personally try to get to the bottom of who, how, and why they really spied on him, and who leaked his name to the media.
Which he could do quite nicely after his resignation. With his history, it’s not like he doesn’t know “some people”. Get the goods and then come back with them. In the meantime - get gone.
The dooms-dayers story, as I read it in the comments, is that nothing can stop the collapse. And every time the stock market goes down over a hundred points on the Dow, they gleefully post the fall. Now, I don’t think today’s the beginning of the stock market upturn, but was pointing out the use of selective evidence.
Let’s see now. We are going to fire Spitzer, but impeachment (of GWB) remains under the table.
Just so great!
Fallon’s gone. Breaking briefing on CNN
I have a dim view of the economy. Nobody expected the Great Depression.
Jee-bus.
OT - crap. Fallon is retiring. I’m pretty sure he has been the only thing standing between us and bombing Iran.
Fallon’s views that were in opposition to the administration were a “distraction”, so he is resigning…
…and now that the military brass is no longer in opposition to bombing Iran, we can get this show on the road.
OT
Firedoglake.com got a shout-out from the guest host on the Tom Hartman show today. With regards to the Spitzer mess.
FunnyD
Yes, that’s how it will be.
Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran.
If we get a Prez. McCain, I think the bombs will fall.
yup
True. I just want to make sure that someone gets to the bottom of how they spied on him and why he was targeted and whether it was political. The damage to him personally is done.
NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Kiddo @ 65 “Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!”
FunnyD
Let’s get it on.
Bye Bye Fallon…
Worst news on the possibility of war with Iran in 11 months, pups. Kiss sanity goodbye, and welcome to another useless war. Expect more leading Democrats to be swept up within days, if not hours.
Shit, was this just announced?
-G
Well if a stock market crash happens, I’m thankful for one thing, I have very little invested in the stock market. So there’s no danger I’ll be jumping out of windows.
Isn’t Dick Cheney headed to the Gulf this weekend?
-G
All we have to do is cut taxes for the wealthy and things will be fine.
Harvard, may I please have my MBA now?
yup. Gates had a news conference.
Oh………………..shit!!!! There’s simply no other way to express it.
Fallon: Disconnect between my own and the president’s ”objectives”….
Commander CodpieceBratking not used to having a ”subordinate” brazenly speak out…FUHere we go.
Oh, we can rest easy. Gates sez going to war with Iran is ridiculous. /snark
Oh, wait, Gates just said on CNN that it is ridiculous that this means we are going to war with Iran.
I’m very reassured.
Can MSNBC do better? Of course they can.
Do they want to? …
Who broke Gates’s arm? Was that a result of the tussle with Fallon?
Adm. William Fallon resigning as Centcom chief.
Livebloggin CNN on an MSNBC thread…
…have we no shame?!
I think they’re going to fall before November…
IIRC, he fell and broke his arm a couple of weeks ago.
The Dow is still down signifigantly lately and Ian has been spot on in his analysis. What don’t you see in the long term given Ian’s points?
LOL that’s funny!
sorry
Now we know why Cheney is going to the Middle East.
All things are possible with President McCain. Who does Gates support for Chief Exec.?
I bow to the superior knowledge of those here who know far more about economics than I do.
That was injured in the failed attempt to keep Dick Cheney from abducting his grandchildren.
Whoo boy.
Operation Hamas/Hezbollah/Lebanon/Syria/Iran is gaining speed.
Somewhere a Liberty U grad is penning the words “On my orders” and scratching their heads to think of something more.
-G
Could happen.
At some point the Saudi’s are gonna get tired of the US blustering while needing a bailout…
…Cheney may come back with his arm in a sling.
They were probably afraid Shuster would try to pimp his daughter on the show.
Fallon’s resignation will have fall out…because he is perceived has having been pushed out….MSNBC
Good.
OT - crap. Fallon is retiring. I’m pretty sure he has been the only thing standing between us and bombing Iran.
aw fuck. I’m now considering getting good and goddamned drunk, hopefully not to wake up until January - or not…
This is really more like three steps forward, fours steps back, because now, instead of being able to pretty much avoid Tucker’s face and voice by not watching his show, we will have to see him as an “analyst” on everyone else’s show. This is not progress, folks.
Gates says no, McCain say YES
If so, it will be one of the few things about which there *has* been any fall out. Why should it start now? :-(
we will have to see him as an “analyst” on everyone else’s show.
Hopefully, trying to keep the hood on his raincoat up, while he describes the current force of the coming hurricane in the Florida Panhandle…
When Fallon got the job everyone freaked out because it was a sure sign we were going to do a carrier based assault on Iran. I can’t wait to see how we freak out next. Is this a Zappa album around here or what?
What was the gist of the Esquire article re the Fallon resignation?
“I mean Wall Street aint getting stuck with that tab.“
Oh nooo… they sure ain’t.
To do so would take time away for whatever way they are working on as we speak that will plunder the resources of the middle class and below for the benefit of the very few.
Anytime a bunch of these (mostly) guys get together at one of those fancy pants places like The Greenbriar, The Phoenician, Davos Switzerland, etc., and CNBC reporters are outside panting like dogs in heat to know what The Great (Mostly) Men are talking about inside, you better hold on to your hat, wallet, 401(K) and home equity, because rest assured they are inside scheming on how to get 3 out of 4 of those items away from you.
I’ll bet you dollars to doughnuts that Long Term Capital Management, the S& L crisis, and our current mortgage and credit crisis were all incubated over illegal Cuban cigars at one of those gatherings.
Actually, I’m with you! St. Francis would not be good enough to satisfy many here. And I kinda like David Gregory, too! But Andrea Mitchell! OMG! She is the pits! Ever since she said that everybody knew about Valerie Plame and then had to walk that back, because she didn’t know, but she didn’t want anyone to think she was the only one who didn’t know, I have found her incredible. That’s also not the only incidence of her incompetence as a reporter. She misspeaks all the time!
I keep wondering if Shuster is actually still at MSNBC. It would be a major loss to them if he’s not, IMO.
Yea, he is.
just put it off one more day.
Not sure but I don’t think everybody around here freaked out when Fallon was named CentCom. In fact, I think most folks waited to learn his background and were mildly reassured when it turned out that he was a pushback against war.
Which is why some different folks might be freaking now than freaked before.
Freak Out!
The perfect is often the enemy of the good.
“To do so would take time away
forfrom whatever way they are working on as we speak that will plunder the resources of the middle class and below for the benefit of the very few.”Oops!
What, are you saying I am engaging in exaggeration? :)
Help I’m IRAQ!
Quit school
why take it
“Help, I’m A Rock.”
or the 2008 version “Help, I’m In Iraq.”
Bush says he listens to generals on the ground, not admirals in the water.
Relax.
