NBC News projects it for Obama. Black voters represented 48% of the voters , 49% were white, and 2% other. Obama took African American votes 91% to Clinton’s 9%.
Todd Beeton on the potential delegate allocation:
So a plausible scenario, even with a 60%-40% Obama win, is an 18-15 delegate split in Obama’s favor, which, again, would mean Obama gets screwed since his 20% popular vote win would roughly break down to a 10 point 55%-45% delegate split.

Hiya Jane!
Blowout, anyone?
At this point I say flip a coin and get this over with.
That was the worst Hardball broadcast I have ever seen.
And, that is saying something.
btw, Jane. Nice post on Eliot’s Mess. He’s almost certainly the latest victim of the politicization of the DOJ. Eau de Rove, anyone?
We are hoping that Obama will be the next president.
McCain must be enjoying what the Democratic contenders are doing to each other.
He’s napping.
I don’t know how screwed Obama gets, he gets the “victory”, he gets an increasing delegate lead, he gets the momentum.
So…I guess that Obama was right when he said it’s about the delegate count…did he officially win Texas yet?
Jane, may I respectfully call BS on Todd Beeton’s “…Obama gets screwed…” line? I rather doubt he has used the same line in description of those states where Senator Clinton has received a larger vote and gotten fewer delegates.
And for those about to flame me, I don’t particularly care for either candidate but will vote for the Democratic candidate on the ballot in November 2008.
Today in Indanapolis was also the day for the special election for the replacement of the late Julia Carson (IN7). I’ll try to post results when I can. Julia’s grandson Andre was the D candidate – he looks good, and did some very effective advertising. I have my purple finger available for inspection, should anyone care.
This is my Congressperson. Used to be a very safe seat – downtown Indianapolis, and the areas immediately surrounding downtown. The area is, however, becoming more white and Republican all the time as the downtown area is “revitalized”. i.e. housing bought by speculators, upgraded and re-sold at not-cheap prices.
Here’s hoping: Julia was a very polarizing figure – many loved her immensely, and vice-versa. I’ll try to keep it updated here.
Are we on our way to a brokered concention?
Obama projected winner msnbc
MSNBC – call it for Obama
Kiddo,90% of 1/2 is Damn near half, right?
I think Obama did alright.
I don’t see how a brokered convention will be a good thing.
I am concerned about Pennsylvania.

hi Jane–
am suffering from some kinda viral infection. All those travels across time-zones and all those jetlags weakened my immune system…
OT
The House failed to reach the 2/3rds needed to override Bush veto of a bill that would apply the anti-waterboarding, anti-torture requirements of the Army Field Manual’s rules about interrogations to the CIA and others.
Dems mostly held firm (for a change), but so did the GOP. The final vote was 225-118 with a mostly party-line split:
only 5 GOP in favor: Bartlett (MD), Gilchrest, Johnson (IL), Paul, Smith (NJ)
only 3 Dems against: Kucinich, Marshall, Waters
17 not voting:
GOP: Capito, Coble, Davis (KY), Dent, Pryce (OH), Radanovich, Ros-Lehtinen, Tancredo,
Dems: Hooley, Kilpatrick, Mitchell, Oberstar, Rangel, Rush, Schwartz, Thompson (MS), Woolsey
In what way?
Interesting that they are still counting ballots and assigning delegates in Ohio 01 and 17 and in California. Maybe my provisional ballot counted after all.
He needs 46% of all remaining delegates to get to the magic number.
I was the only voter at my polling place for almost an hour today, and the youngest person period by probably 30 years…
It was the strangest voting experience I’ve ever had – it was at the local VFW, and after I cast my ballot, they invited me to sit around and eat a southern banquet. I live in a northern county where the black population is much much lower than the rest of the state. I didn’t even see any black folks.
We think Obama is the right choice to be our next president.
You should be … if you’re a Hillary supporter … *g*
misnbc has called mississippi for obama – no surprise there…
That Obama will not win there.
Hmmm…I thought it was strange this morning when they said the voting was light to moderate. Unlike the rest of the primaries….what gives?
Facing calls for her ouster from a ceremonial role in Clinton’s campaign, Ferraro instead tried to turn the tables on Obama’s aides.
“I have to tell you that what I find is offensive is that everytime somebody says something about the campaign, you’re accused of being racist,” Ferraro told Fox News Channel.
” ‘Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let’s address reality and the problems we’re facing in this world, you’re accused of being racist, so you have to shut up. Racism works in two different directions. I really think they’re attacking me because I’m white. How’s that?’ “
Thanks for your report from the front lines falasafa. Curious there were not more young voters.
She’s pretty stupid.
Aw man, so sorry to hear that. Take care of yourself!
He’s got a big challenge, he’s going to have to do really well in Philly and the suburbs to have a chance. I’ll be doing what I can to help him Philly over the coming weeks.
…Ferraro told Fox News Channel.
Strike three – you’re outta here!!!
This is so bad I’m about to decide it’s not stupid. The Clintons let nothing happen by accident.
Can you imagine what Obama will do to John on a one-on-one debate with McCain?
All right, my friend! ;0)
This isn’t “turning the tables.” This is just getting tetchy and defensive. And I don’t think the reverse-racism remark is going to play well outside the Klan.
Good, jayt! Keep us posted.
Geraldine BUNKER?
Maybe we need more “context”.
You may be right. It just sounds so ignorant to me. I think she really believes what she’s saying. Shudder.
it’s bullshit and i’m pissed as hell that Maggie Williams tried to spin it that O’s campaign is playing the race card. Hillary won’t get rid of her, huh? Well last I checked, she is gonna need black folks in order to win in the GE (if she is the nominee) way to go
And McCain feels so good he’s gone to Europe.
She was talking to Faux, for Pete’s sake. Since when do they do context?
That’s what they said about Gore vs. Dumbya, and Gore got his ass handed to him. Hopefully Obama’s aides won’t convince him that it’s more important to be nice than to win (as Donna Brazile convinced Gore).
Geraldine needs her meds adjusted….sheeeeeeesh
Obama is 1/2 white too…mebee Hill should point that out to her?
“How’s that?’ “ Kinda shit you say right before you pop someone in the mouth.
Perhaps I should start saying what I think about Hillary. My lady counsels: no.
I think he is wise to pick his battles.
It was, like, a joke.
Can you give us your insight on why? I am already negative about Mississippi so I need to hear my bias is unfounded – There is some legitimate reason.
Fundraising with “GOPers Abroad” perhaps?
I agree. Hil better dump her pronto. And I hate to say it because up until now Geraldine has been a good supporter, but she just can’t keep her big mouth shut.
Apparently they won’t be finished counting the Texas Caucus votes until the end of the month.
Also just learned that in Michigan lots of ballots were voided when people wrote down the name of a candidate that they favored who was not on the ballot. The Electoral Commission did not accept write-ins for Edwards or Obama, even though those “votes” clearly indicated the voters intent. They did not transfer these votes to the “Uncommitted Delegate” tally.
yea with SHORT RIDE,and we are picking up the tab for the GRAND EXCURRSION…see how it works….we are eating pot luck and they are feasting on OUR tax $$$$$
I want to pull out all the stops relative to my feelings on Hillary Clinton, so badly.
“It was like a joke. It had several things in common with a joke. It did lack humor.”
No poo-flinging, OKK! OK? ;-)
They are going to have to straighten this crappola out and give the people their voice — all candidates running on the ballot.
hahahahaha
am i doing that?i cant tell anymore …i report ,U decide”g”
Hold yer fire…wait til you see the whites of their eyes….
I hate seeing decent people fall apart in their twilight.
That is what I see happening to Geraldine Ferraro.
Sad.
-G
I will do sucker punches, if I determine that’s what the situation demands.
so much for hillary ’s being a “progressive” dem….. not that she ever was such a person…. imo
“their”
Put all candidates on the Michigan and Florida ballots who were still in the running to that point. Who knows how many more bargaining delegates Edwards will have? Seems fair to me.
BTW, Tweety did mention that Obama will be on later tonite with him…!
Amazing what a comma can do.
not ever
Same here, buddy … I had to do a double take on the name …
Kinda like Hill does…! *g*
lol
them there eyes…”g”
Yeah, he’s all excited….
this has turned out to be quite the disgusting primary – how can hrc expect sane people to support her and her bullshit tactics…….
First vote for Veep I ever cast was for her.
-G
Dinner calls … have a great night, y’all !
But it’s very difficult.
OK, time to start talking about how biased KO is.
I was so happy that she was on the ticket.
Mondale was like cold oats … but still …
Aloha, Petro! Wow, 67% to 31% in MS…
I know. You might end up having to say, “I’ll support her if she is the nominee”…ya never know…we’ve got a helluva long way to go.
Lahoma, who is upstairs on one of her laptops and reads these posts and comments, has just sent me an urgent email. It reads: “steady kiddo”.
them there eyes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..re=related
Thanks, bro…How was your trip to bury your uncle…
he is biased?
GregB – In defence of Geraldine, not to excuse her follish words, she has worked all her life to get a woman in the White House. So many older women who have fought the good fight would love to see this come to pass before checking out. They put up with a lot of crap.
Sometimes, our effords come to fruition after we walk through that portal. I’m good with that. The times may be right but the person may not be. Any woman really won’t do. Nor do I expect Super Woman. I just want a woman who will take us in a better direction. The times and person may not be aligned.
Man, we have had a lot of lousy male presidents who on a scale of 1 – 10 couldn’t rate 3.
Double standards, the campaign won’t fire her and if they think sending Maggie Williams is gonna placate people, they are deluding themselves. But hillary gets called a monster and Powers is out just bullshit. Sorry folks but I’m so vexed!!! I want to see some outrage from the american public hell at least from my fellow party members
A wise, Shawoman, eh…? *g*
Biodun…everyone always catches weird disgusting stuff on those airplanes…ugh. Feel better.
You too. ;0)
Will Clinton denounce and reject Ferraro?
True but she comes across as so angry that her whole rant screams of entitlement.
…against Hillary you mean? Pretty obvious for some three weeks now….
Hey – I called for Obama to fire Samantha Power, and I think that it’s only right to similarly call for Clinton to fire GF.
This shit is gonna kill the party – it’s gotta stop. Fight the goddamned thing on the issues and STOP – really, just stop – the personal attacks.
And when I say “on the issues”, I mean the issues having to do with what the last seven years have wrought, not having the Democratic contenders comparing the ‘weaknesses’ of each other.
“Can’t anybody here play this game?”
nope, they are defending her and she is staying on the campaign’s finance committee
She has terrible advisors.
I believe Senator Obama is a person for the times. I may be wrong. But I dearly want to find out.
It was as good as it could be. Many of my relatives had been standing vigil for him for a couple of weeks and having me show up was a “diversion”. I made a quick trip to thew high country Sunday morning, see my FB page. Lot’s of people pitched in and helped out here so it worked out.
thx
I totally agree.
I just think he’s calling them like he see’s em. She’s disgusting IMHO.
(((((Raven and family)))))
Thanks–doc said: Ibruprofen, lotsa fluids, lotsa rest, which is fine, ‘coz I have lotsa DVDs…Once Upon a Time in America, Sergio Leone, about the Jewish mafia in NYC in the 1940s; Shoot the Moon; and something called The Feast of Love…
thank EG, how’s the crib?
terrible? way past terrible, the campaign has disintegrated to a shit flinging match. people don’t forget and if she wins the nomination, she won’t win the GE, not after basically telling black people ‘deal with it’
I find Obama uplifting, inspirational and smart. He comes across as trustworthy.
She has terrible advisors.
Masterfully understated… lol
I love Once Upon a Time in America…
Stay warm, and Chicken Soup!!! It works. Even packaged…Lipton Noodle comes up as most effective after homemade.
Feel better soon.
L
If it hasn’t already. I’m really really amazed at all the shit that’s come down, mostly from the Hillary camp–and disappointed. And Ferraro? Maybe she should keep her eye on her husband–Frank Ferraro…
please skip the ibuprfren…kills your kidneys and liver, just sayin
I know, but I can’t do anything about her stupid decisions to follow her stupid, destructive advisors….:(
i’ll not vote for her…. she’s said too much shit for me – i’m sick of her…. and her advisors such as they are….
feel better Biodun
she obviously agrees with them imo
Obama does not come to me as being angry. He seems to be bringing a message of hope. He reminds me a bit of Bobby Kennedy in this respect.
Our sweetie is on…! ;-)
McSame will be a great consolation prize then won’t he.
ok WHATS for dinner?
1,873 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen RieszFischer and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
“Hopefully Obama’s aides won’t convince him that it’s more important to be nice than to win…”
First of all, what makes you think Obama needs aides or YOU for that matter tellin’ ‘im ANYthin’ about how to handle racism and dishonest “when did you stop beating your wife attacks”? No Brother Reisz, Obama is sendin’ his (white) spokespersons out with direct, sharp and rational responses to the irrational, deranged and dishonest attacks. He won’t address the stuff directly until he’s on the stage with Mrs. Clinton eye to eye and by that time she’ll be so far out on that limb he won’t even need a saw ta take care a business.
This is the entire campaign here Reisz… 6 weeks out from the last big primary in one of the most racially polarized states north a the Mason Dixon Line and Obama’s down 18 points. But he’s turnin’ Clinton-McCain’s grand strategy on it’s head…here in the large cities is Obama’s turf and the outlyin’ ex-urban areas are wingnut territory. Maryland showed us that Clinton-McCain can no longer rely on the big city and state (white) machines ta neutralize the urban vote. In fact, even though I personally feel that Pennsylvania is one of the most right-wing racist states in the north USA, I think Obama has set it up to crush the old politics of division…
I think what is more problematic is Clinton-McCain’s scorched earth strategy of advancin’ fascist talkin’ points to be used against the Democratic nominee in November…gives McCain and Rove cover to say “even Hilary Clinton says Obama is racist.”
No, brother Reisz, don’t worry about Obama needin’ any advice on how ta deal with racist wingnuts…
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION…SHE IS NO LONGER PRESIDENTIAL MATERIAL!!
I’m not taking it out on you, i’m just furious at the campaign’s cajones and please don’t let anyone come along and try to mitigate or otherwise justify her remarks.
Chimpy now singing about Scotter Libby on MSNBC–saw this earlier–really pathetic…and now about oil in Saudi Arabia–WTF?
He’s clearly off the rails…My love Rachel Maddow now saying it wasn’t funny, says mission not accomplished…
mine too lol
after the fallon news i need comfort food…pasta i guess
I know that.
Thanks…
oh, so now we’re sharing? I thought you banned me from the Rachel-chase! LOL.
sociopaths laugh at that stuff, like frogs blowing up
Sad thing, LS, is that the line just may have been crossed where she can’t cross back over and folks won’t forgive her. How do you tell a whole race of people to basically fuck off and not have ramifications?
KO called him Caligula…
Time for someone to break the news to the Clintons, they have had their
15 minutes, time to pack up all that tired baggage of theirs and look for
a job, he can go try to find out who his real daddy was in Louisiana and
she can hold Geraldine’s hand and moan about how unfair boys are.
*ahem* Take a number, Bio… Right behind me and JayT…! 8-)
Way off topic – the photo is by a friend of my sister’s. He gave her a print and it has been hanging in my hallway for years. It is stupendous.
after Clenis said he was the first black prez…my how they have morphed
Cool, now I need some chocolate and why was Rachel only on for a minute?
I imagine it was probably a different story in districts with more black voters. But I live in a nearly all-white, dry (as in NO alcohol), evangelical, Southern Democratic county. I think Huckabee and Ron Paul would have drawn a crowd, but folks could care less whether it’s Hillary or Barack. They might have cared if Edwards was in the race, though. I talked to a few bigtime cotton farmers in the Delta a few months back who were looking to punch a progressive ticket for probably the first time in their lives. But a black man vs. a woman… no way in hell.
As for young people, the ones I know live in Oxford and Tupelo, and they’re either driving daddy’s c-class or a suburban with a “W” sticker still proudly in the window, or they have a truck with a couple of guns under the seat. Mississippi is still, for the most part, an incredibly poor and incredibly segregated place, and I don’t get out and mingle much. So that’s my two cents.
I know. Karma is a biatch. They just won’t listen.
Special comment on Hil tomorrow. NO PRISONERS.
i called the texas democratic party today and spoke at length with them. looks like they can’t officially certify the results til the certifiers are seated at the county conventions on march 29th.
this, of course, doesn’t account for why they’re not releasing the rest of the unofficial results, which i imagine wouldn’t be very far off from the official version.
KO will have a Special Comment tomorrow about HRC’s campaign ; )
KO promising a new SC tomorrow night……. do i love KO??? yessssssss
works for me,or little boots,or mephistopholes
Ferraro has outraged me with her comments on Obama.
Thanks for the update!!
Hey moderator, why is the FDL comment-server do slow??!!
updated Indiana 7th special election results:
Name Votes Vote %
Andre D. Carson (D) 10,887 51.19%
Jon Elrod (R) 9,721 45.71%
Sean Shepard (L) 648 3.05%

That’s gonna be interesting and two minutes later the complaints of KO being biased will begin
And they do feel entitled. I hear some women saying so. Within families mothers and daughters are in conflict (the guys stay out of this one). The daughter is for Obama and Mom feels betrayed. I’ve even heard women say Obama is young enough, he can wait. Let women have their turn.
They feel the chance of a woman in the White House slipping away and it will be years before it happens again.
Hard refresh please.
Similar to here in Hawaii, my county convention will be on May 3rd, of which I have to attend as treasurer for my Precinct…! ;-)
Fuck em if they can’t take a joke.
Remember…if they are on the teevee…especially political teevee…they are “actors”. They follow a script. We are watching corporate-controlled teevee.
QuakerGirl, I’m one of those old women who hooped to live long enough to see a Woman Prez. And I started out by backing Hillary. But part of what we hope for is that a woman will govern from a different perspective than a man. When Bill started his games in SC, it reminded me that the elected VP would be the third guy in rank and going against Bill’s ego, it would be a steady battle. Then Hillary showed a willingness to “play dirty” (where’ve we seen that before) and her supporting John McCain over Obama, not once, but repeatedly, was beyond the pale. If she can’t have it, no one’s going to! Obama also sees the world from a different perspective, and I happily voted for him. I’ve got a few years left and the righ woman may show up down the road.
G. Beckk $10,000,000,000.00…….is there anything more ABSURD in this world,i think not
Bless you. I’m from Louisiana now California and Nevada. Left many years ago. I visit family and time has stopped there. It’s 1950. What is a nice person like you doing in a place like that? ;)
sexism and racism are the same side of a coin and spewing this crap just cements what young feminists of color like myself have always thought about the feminist movement (in this country)…that it is racist.
{{{Nannyberry}}} I think we may have gained some wisdom greater than our ego. That great MLK line, “I may not get there with you….” keeps me grounded.
HRC and her enablers are not ready for prime time, it was a fantasy
projected onto her, she believed it and cannot accept the fact of a
generational change happening instead. It is just going to get worse
every day this trance goes on. Time to move on.
Come now, who in this country gets more privileges and advantages than black men with the middle name “Hussein”? I can’t think of any. :)
That was funny.
Apropos of nothing, the Cushing spot price for crude oil closed today at $108.75. The $200 billion Fed bailout may cause some minor retrenchment tomorrow but as I keep pointing out our economy can not sustain these prices without going belly up.
I was in NYC for 6 years, up until about 18 months ago. I came to teach students with learning disabilities. But it’s breaking me, and this summer I’m going back to school for nursing.
Thanks for letting us know, Raven.
KO is biased. He has no business anchoring election night coverage.
Are the Hillary supporters here OK with Ferraro’s comments? And Clintons response?
I know treading carefully on FDL is the rule but this is a returns thread.
No, your supposed to wait until tomorrow to say that
That’s an obscenity!
Well Riesz wasn’t okay with it, but I don’t know about the others.
He is biased every damn night. On Countdown I am cool with it, but not when he is anchoring election night coverage.
Keith has said that he has been a friend of Hillary for many years.
adastra—thanks, i was thinking it as neat as this one, that someone posted a while back…..i think it was kiddo.
http://www.dnr.ne.gov/floodpla…..louds1.jpg
Which media hosts do you believe are giving fair coverage to Senator Clinton?
With friends like that……….
Gibson
Im very glad to hear this. We get to support who we want but racial comments are not allowed.
Ferraro has a long history of this
April 15, 1988, Washington Post:
IF Hillary was elected and started playing the same games that she is using in this election she might just taint things for women for decades. Everyone will go…remember Hillary (just like folks reflect back on Nixon vs. McGovern). Obama, as I see it, is really, really trying to keep the tone of this primary campaign on issues and inspiration. If Hillary really does have the distinctions she claims (at least ones that she’s willing to advance) then THAT should be what she is talking about.
But I think that’s precisely the problem. If Hillary had taken just a few more courageous steps rather than pandering to the Bush Administration about Iraq, I might actually be waving her forward. Instead she played it cautious, I suspect to hedge her bets if the war went “well”. IOW she helped get us into a war that has led to the financial meltdown in this country simply because she wanted a shot at the WH. Some irony there.
But I do believe that it takes a little maturity to vote for a better candidate regardless of sex or race, and the more people out there who are willing to do that the more likely that there will be candidates elected because they are good legislators, governors, executives or leaders…and that would put women right up there with men.
I also see many women out there as Governors and Congresswomen, and quite a few State level executives who could rise just as fast as Obama did.
warms my heart. thanks for the updates.
MS must be another one of those latte-sipping states that doesn’t need a President…right Mark?
Our precinct doesn’t have a treasurer, just a chair and a secretary. Where does the money come in from? Does China hold your debt too?
I wish the states would allocate their delegates strictly as a percentage of the raw vote.
Just as Clinton was deprived of her victory in Texas last week, Obama is not going to get the number of delegates he deserves tonight.
Well said. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Are you sure KO doesn’t just appear biased since he’s sitting next to Tweety?
Rush does it again. Do you feel OK with that too?
13% of her votes were Repug.
I just read that over at TPM, sad really but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck….
This, combined with Rendell, is why Penn is locked.
NO surprise, but exit polls show that a large majority of republicans voted for Clinton. Even when the majority said they did not favor either cnadidate. Looks like they are trying to keep this thing interesting. And they may see Clinton as eisier to beat in November. What do you think?
i have found on my visits to mydd and yuck taylor marsh that many of the hillary supporters feel that KO is biased. it is what it is
Why in the world would you think I am OK wih that?
I am a great advocate for Obama.
I think he can win without the cheerleading. I like my news straight.
“I like my news straight.”
And, yet, here you are, on an outrageously biased website. Werd.
why would our party allow this? And Bill going on Rushs show…is there no shame?
Memo: This is not a newscast! This is a forum for expressing and sharing opinions.
….and a hush fell over Clintonville, for Hillary had struck out (again)…
As a Hillary supporter, I don’t like Ferraro’s comments. I get what she’s saying, though. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that he wouldn’t be a successful candidate if he wasn’t black. And I certainly would never say he’s lucky to be black. But we are still facing a situation where pundits can routinely say that Obama will win a state because of the large black population, but if anyone from the Clinton camp says something similar, they’re playing the race card. Even Obama predicted that black turnout would go up 30 percent if he is the nominee. How is that not playing the race card? I think the Obama campaign has made a concerted effort to paint the Clintons as racists, which I find reprehensible.
As for Rush, it’s amazing how Republicans voting for Obama are a sign of his broad appeal, but Republicans voting for Hillary are part of a nefarious plot by Rush. He’s apparently so powerful that he can send his minions forth to skew the Dem primary, but can’t keep McCain from becoming the nominee of his own party.
One of the really frustrating things about many Obama supporters is their ready willingness to believe, and repeat, any Internet rumor that puts Hillary in a bad light. Now Obama is on board, giving Drudge the imprimatur of credibility by not only repeating his completely unsourced story, but going further and accusing the Clinton campaign of disseminating the photo.
Along those lines, snowbird, Clinton did not appear on Rush’s show. He was interviewed on Mark Davis’s show in Texas. Later that day, Davis filled in as a host on Rush, and replayed the interview. But I have no doubt we’ll be hearing that canard repeated endlessly.
Finally, I can’t believe anyone would even question if KO is biased. His shameful performance the night of the Florida primary sealed the deal on that one.
By the way, this campaign really isn’t that tough. It only seems that way because Obama’s supporters go into paroxysms every time Hillary does something they don’t like. A lot of people need to grow up and toughen up.
