But Fitzgerald knew that a leak had in fact occured, therefore that there was a perpetrator somewhere to be found. What is the underlying crime here that existed apart from knowing whether Spitzer, or anyone else, had committed it? The situations are not comparable.

So the structuring charges are lame? They know they won’t stick but they’re going to do as much damage to him politically as they can. I ain’t shedding any tears for Spitzer, but it’s just sickening the double standard at play with the Rs & Ds. “Heads: I win. Tails: you lose.” and Reed & Pelosi, Obama, Clinton, all seem to be fine with that.

I’m a Clinton supporter (reluctantly). But I publicly promise to support and vote for the first candidate who swears he or she will not issue pardons to the Bush administration and will not respect any pardon issued by Bush for any charge that has not reached a verdict yet (no Poppy Bush pardons for crimes that haven’t even been discovered yet. Waiting…..

What causes these men who know they’re surrounded by enemies ready to pounce, who are observed 20 hours a day and talked about the other 4, to suddenly decide no one will notice? If they bring a mistress home, if they find a young boyfriend, if they have their office staff driving assorted bimbos around at taxpayer expense, if they have various zipper problems? They expect everyone to go blind? What are they thinking? And do they ever get old enough to stop thinking like that?

Albatross:

The fact is, Spitzer helped the neocons. He helped set up the Democratic party for this black eye. So why NOT call for his resignation? What are the benefits of keeping him in place?

There is no long term benefit.

Short term, there’s the chance that he can negotiate a non-prosecution agreement of some sort.

If so, that would keep it out of the news going forward. Much better than having a trial being reported throughout the primiary and election season.

I posted something the other day about Dubya’s poor taste in selecting a song “The Green, Green Grass of Home” that was essentially about the dreams of a death-row prisoner awaiting execution.

Great tune when sung by Johnny Cash (at Folsom Prison) or Joan Baez (at the Bread and Roses festival)…but by the Governor who oversaw the greatest number of executions in Texas history…

there’s gotta be a bit of mental illness involved.
