Eureka!
ES!!
Woo-hoo, three Zeds today!
I think hookers are on just about everyone’s mind tonight in varying degrees!
5?
Boy-oh-boy you guys were pretty naughty tonight. EPU’d I said that I’ve been reading Dan Savage for too many years to even speculate about Spitzer.
This very, very weird Andre Rieu pops number reminds me of Boris Yeltsin more than anything UI’ve ever seen. Pass the Stolni, CT…
congrats ct. did you see any of my notes about our caucus here in austin, tx?

hi ES
Yes’m, I sure did! I swear the Repugs see a Tsunami coming and need a disaster to avert it…!
Rep. Don Young is claiming this afternoon that the Department of the Interior is going to announce in the next couple of days that the the Polar bear is “threatened,” but that oil development in the Arctic won’t threaten the bears’ habitat.
doncha just love it?
Is an Indictment in Rove’s Future?
via Legal Schnauzer by legalschnauzer on 3/10/08
http://legalschnauzer.blogspot…..uture.html
Former Bush Administration advisor Karl Rove said Sunday night that he expects to be indicted by the end of the year.
The comment came in a highly charged lecture and question-answer session at the University of Iowa.
Think Progress reports that Rove’s comment came in response to a question about the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame. “I haven’t been indicted yet, but I fully expect to be by the end of the year,” Rove said.
Rove was “seemingly joking” at the time of the statement, Think Progress reports. No word on whether Rove was asked about his role in the political use of the U.S. Justice Department, an issue highlighted by the prosecution of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, a Democrat.
That’s magical.
Good evening Aunt Betsy..)
evening sir. how are you?
Hey! How are you?
ES!
I swear I just heard the riff to the tune above in a car commercial just now.
I thought my player was still running but it wasn’t.
Some kind of SUV, it’s been running all night. the next time I see it I’ll let ya know.
So the emissions would vaporize, *poof*, at the source and not migrate…?
Actually, it looks like it’s a double diggs kinda of night.

In a way. Weird, nonetheless. It appears to be a European pops concert for Reiu fans, but I can’t figure out which country. And everyone looks sorta high. Great lighting. Very 21st century. Shostakovich has more resonance with peoples’ souls than music intellectuals realize.
Haven’t been able to get this song out of my head lately-
The Church of Logic, Sin, and Love.
Good morning Pups, Eureka springs.
There’s a shuttle about to… take off, eh!
Nasa video feed
Night shots are so spectacular, saw an Appolo 5 in the late sixties, one of the most memorable experience of my life.
Wonderful thank you.. Daffodils should bloom this week. I am ready for Spring full of kayaking and garden prep.
ooooh! that’s awesome. ears and eyes love it. makes me feel so happy. everyone was having such a good time.
I would love to hear.
Well, I thought I had been the first to Digg it…it told me so…but I don’t know where it went. I think I Dugg Nahant’s Digg after that!
How does that work?
Dam again… how many does that make 3 or 4 in the last couple of weeks??
It’s such a fun playful tune. When I discovered it I was a bit surprised it hadn’t been viewed more in the few months it’s been on YouTube.
Uh-oh, time to slather my ribs… I’ll be back!
Listening and flipping back between that right now. ^_^ It reminds me a lot of my childhood in the 80s when everyone used to televise the shuttle launches live.
*sighs* I miss that. And i’m pissed off that the shuttles are being retired in 2 years with no replacement vehicle on the burner. I have some choice insults for the Shrub Admin for severely underfunding NASA.
Mmmmmm ribs. Might be a nice enough day to crank up the grill tomorrow.
Bush is science challenged, to say the least…
NASA TV was my fav till the cable co. nix’d it
Greenwarrior, wanted to say that your post to Wigwam was so much more apt than mine… I’m still seething at the generalisation.
Quebecois, thank you for the heads up on the shuttle launch…T-minus 20 minutes…it’s a good, clear night here, so I should be able to see it going up.
I still have it. Never watched a night launch before. But there is no countdown clock on screen..
There’s no doubt of it there. Total lack of imagination and curiosity, which is integral to science. There’s reasons I’m partial to science fiction to t his day. Part of it is that curiosity. I hate seeing those things completely ignored or mocked in so many ways. What’s wrong with trying to see more about the world or find out how it works? Or imagine a world with a different twist with technology aiding the change of humanity?
I’m one of the “Why not?” Types. ^^ Drove my teachers BATTY.
Good night dear friends.
the lines were long to vote for the primary, so i took it upon myself to explain why it was important to come back later and caucus (more delegates for your candidate) and how it all worked. i figured our precinct would go for obama and so that even tho i was non-partisan talking to people waiting to vote in the primary, that we’d get more delegates for obama the more people came to the caucus. when i had to go at noon, i trained others to take my place and people kept doing that all day long.
usually we have maybe 30 people at a precinct caucus. we had 728 this time! i worked at the caucus signing up potential delegates and then helping with the count. 69 delegates for obama, 34 for clinton. and yours truly is a delegate to the county convention march 29.
i had an absolute blast talking to people in line all morning. even tho many people had voted in every election, they’d never been to caucus before and there were some young brand new voters too. and some crossovers there to game the system.
republican caucus had 30 or so to our 728.
{{{TexBetsy}}}
Goodnight.
Nice you still have nasa tv. no counter on the web cam either.
Aloha, Tex! I wish ya pain free sleep…!
Where are you located?
The shuttle is scheduled to launch at 2:28, in about an hour.
Nite Tex, sleep well.
Bonne nuit, Betsy, je te souhaite de beaux rêves.
thanks y’all.
merci Q
Ooh, them ribs looked so good, and, tender, several bones fell out when I lifted the rack…!
I’m in Tampa, and we can usually see them pretty well if the sky is clear…I’ll try to confirm the time.
Yeah! One man not keeping his pants zipped up in the headlines and all of a sudden all men should zip up their lips. feh!
send me pix and i’ll put them on snack for tomorrow!
T minus nine minutes hold, the hold is 45 minutes.
g’night betsy. see you and wdd and whatever other central texas pups make it to lunch thursday. disclaimer: even tho we’re in texas, we are not going to a bbq place. this time.
Not all men. Just 95% of them. Their lips, I mean.
Thanks so much for the link!
(delurk) I miss NASA TV too :-( MSNBC said a few minutes ago that the launch is at 0228 EST.
I wish I could, my teen daughter destroyed two digital cams, one within 8 hours… And numerous cell phones I might add…!
Gulf War illness ‘chemical link’
BBC News – 4 hours ago
There is evidence linking chronic health problems suffered by Gulf War veterans to exposure to pesticides and nerve agents, US research has found.
Wowzers! Incredible. Congratulations on being a delegate. I love hearing the first hand reports like this, greenwarrior. So much more authentic than reading it on MSNBC or another news agency. Dems can’t lose this November, regardless of the Spitzer mess.
How sweet it is! Frog march that perp all the way to the jail house.
Liberty is a lovely lady. But if you find yourself enjoying the special delights of her company, she’ll only sweet talk you and take your money. Didn’t you know? The price of Liberty is eternal vigilance taxes.
Somehow I knew you were lurking..)
Great idea, Tex!
yeah, thanks for link, fun!
Heh, if she misses the zed then she lurks, or she’ll be at the treehouse, right LL?
21st launch for Endeavor!
Wow.
Wink ;-)
and not a word on uranium.
God, I hope he got his $4300 worth! (But, perhaps I lack imagination; I can’t see how that could be.)
Just to clarify, wasn’t that the comment made by WigWag?
I’d give my left gonad to ride the shuttle. I was that kind of a kid who read everything he could find on space, I started reading english because of that, there was very little translated to french.
Or bad KBR water.
Yes it was, my bad.
Someone definitely needs to go to jail for that shit, there is no excuse, especially since this isn’t the first time. Bullshit.
I’d be happy just to be part of the ground crew and support staff. It’s become an international front all around since the ISS came into existence. It’s one of those things that bodes well for the future, if we can dig ourselves out of this hole the Shrub has us in.
So many “W’s”…some much better than others. :~)
Does anyone think Waxmans call for the IRS to investigate Blackwater might actually have teeth behind it this time?
Any NASA fans, or aviation fans in general, should check out the Udvar-Hazy Center of the Air and Space Museum Annex at Dulles Airport. I’m right down the road from there, and visit frequently :-)
Simple questions beget simple answers.
No.
I’d like for all the astronauts to sit down in front of a camera and tell us about every UFO sighting they have ever seen in space. I was watching a show called UFO Files, and they said when astronauts encounter UFOs, they have to switch to a top secret communications channel to describe the sightings and what is occurring to Mission Control on the ground in Houston.
What has come out of any hearing we’ve had so far? Bupkis, as far as I can tell.
I’ll have what he’s drinking..)
We can hope. I keep thinking the dem plan is for 90% of Americans is to demand impeachment. Not just those of us on the far left, but the rest of the country. These hearings are quite informative, and people are getting the picture. If not impeachment, a clear democratic majority in congress and the WH for us.
It’s fine with me if the hearings continue on to ‘09, and war crimes become the result!
How are you doing, Eureka? Have you gotten any rain?
I guess you don’t believe UFOs exist. Ha, ha.
Oops. I made the same mistake on the other thread and have been thinking of it incorrectly since then. Thanks for the correction and apologies to wigwam.
I’ve been thinking of making a trip down to Washington, if the democratic nominee wins the election( if there is an election…). I want to take pictures, and meet as many Pupus as possible. I would make sure to visit that museum. Thanks for the tip.
Lots of good information. No convictions, true. But each investigation leads to another! Bye-Bye, Gonzales and Rove.
Not enough action, but some good momentum.
I think we are not the center of the universe.
Yes we finally did with intermittent ice and snow.. the river is up!
Quebecois, please do come visit. I’d be glad to show you around the Air and Space Annex. Hit me up via Facebook if you decide to make that trip!
What? Do you know what happened to Galileo for those very utterances?
That would be Pups…
And I was not aware that there’s a wigwam here, I’ll extend my sincerest apology.
Colbert to Sen. George McGovern: “Are you on acid right now?”
McGovern: “You may think I need some, but no.”
HAHAHAHA!!
No salami for a month?
There’s plenty of pupus here in the Isles, not so many pups, tho…! 8-(
Don’t mention it! I did notice earlier today that someone was commenting under the name “wigwag,” which I feared would cause some confusion.
Well I guess I’m committed to stay up now to watch the shuttle launch…T-minus 27 minutes or so.
LOL.. Okay, let me just say I would bet most aliens wouldn’t find us to be as interesting as we might like to think..)
A few sideways references were made by some of the original astronauts from the Mercury and Appolo programs. As they’re getting older, it might very well happen that they’d fess up to what they really saw up there.
Yeah, damn daylight savings time anyway. I’m gonna be draggin’ ass again tomorrow.
Me too.
Me too, but I’m gonna hit it now. Nighters. Cindy Loo Hoo and Kobe don’t get it at all!
It was the Apollo program, my grandfather worked for NASA during the majority of those missions, at Canaveral and then Kennedy… My mom attended Cocoa Beach HS…! *g*
Busted, I hear ya. It almost feels like jet lag to me with the DST, and working some evening hours last week. Gets harder and harder to rebound, the older I get!
Quebecois…I see you Canadians have raised the seal hunt quota…the shame
Godnight, LooHoo!
{{Loo Hoo}}}
I think they stop off on earth to pick up supplies. Like energy items they can use for fuel, oil and minerals, that sort of thing. Possibly plants and animals for food. Intentional contact with humans is off limits for them for some reason, otherwise they probably would have made contact by now.
Not the only thing I’m ashamed of about Canada. Let’s start with my neocon prime Minister…
In the late 50s, I was working at the site of the first human centrifuge in North America. The facility had not been been used for many years. While I was there however some fools came by claiming that they were going to go into space in rockets (basically ICBMs) and used it. Those were the Mercury astronauts.
well then I guess you need to do something about those seal hunts…god knows I have friends who try
Wigwam? Are you lurking, feeling better? If so I have a nagging silly legal type of question you might be able to answer..
Wigwam, how cool!
How cool is that?!
I’ve been a fan since I was knee high to a choppin’ block.
If ever there was an image that sullies the reputation of good Canadians, it is the clubbing of baby seals.
i really hate daylight savings time. if there weren’t so many things to deal with that are urgent, i’d love to get rid of that.
Wigwam, Do you know why the House brought a civil suit up against Bolton and miers instead of criminal with chamber pot lodging?
Suzanne?
Dood, I’m still among the quick and getting quicker every day.
Great story, I wish Wolfe would have written a better book. His Right Stuff could have been way more informative.
Launch team is ready to proceed .
Getting ready to resume countdown.
ES, the civil suit was to avoid the necessity to bring the DoJ into the proceeding, particularly since Mukasey said he wouldn’t anyways…!
And they do have some rather unseemly neighbors. *g*
I was at the Biophysics Department at the Mayo Clinic, reporting to Dr. E.J. Baldes, who had been involved in the development of G-suits for the U.S. Air Corp for WW II.
Very tired. Am calling it a night. G’nite all you luvlies.
Excellent news.
I resemble that remark.
*g*
MSNBC said earlier that they’d have live coverage of the launch…sure hope so, as right now they’re showing some kind of prison lockdown dreck.
Suzanne is taking the rest of the evening to watch TDS and Colbert. Lucky girl!
What is beyond me, ES, is why they didn’t go the Inherent Contempt route to begin with…! 8-(
Pretty exciting times!
I should add that at the time the X-15 was considered to be the best we could do toward manned space flight. Vanguard launch vechiles were blowing up on the launch pad. I thought those guys had cajones so big they dragged.
G’night greenwarrior
T minus 9 minutes..
I agree with you, Spiderpaws, the image is impossible to deal with. I try to lead a respectful life, one where ethics are always present. That’s hard enough to achieve. I’ll leave the seal saving to others. Thanks for your advice.
Back from Ms. ET’s great dinner – chicken thighs on lentils, with a lot of herbs and our root-cellar-stored carrots. She made a spinach salad with strawberries (not local!!) and chevre.
wigwam, my Dad is a space and aviation freak — I know he’d love to talk with you, but I don’t know if your paths would ever cross because he’s on the opposite side ;-)
My family on the maternal side is Canadian from the maritime provences…I have lots of cousins there. We have done a lot of protesting but to no avail. Someone is turning their back on this ghastly practice.
I love night shots.
gnite ll,
i may be in your area in the summer. maybe we can say hi.
T-minus 9 minutes and counting. Onboard sensors becoming active…Endeavour’s computers take over at t-minus 30 sec. Preparing to withdraw the walkway. “first global village in space”-someone on ground crew.
Great question, but one to which I have no answer.
But … I always can come up with a theory. So, here’s my wild-ass guess: a criminal charge would require a federal prosecutor to file it and all of them report to Mukasey. Mind you, that’s a wild-ass guess based on no knowledge whatsoever.
It’s a program that should have been continued, space was at their fingertips.
Oooh greenwarrior, please keep me posted on that!
Anothrt hold? Time and space, eh?
T-minus five and counting………
solid rocket boosters armed…t-minus 5 minutes.
Aaah, CNN is covering the launch.
That’s what I tought (but I was a 17-year-old kid at the time), and that seemed to be what my boss thought, though he was pretty old and out of that research at the time.
Looks good folks, we should have a light show in a few minutes.
Beautiful.
okay, will be very happy to.
now, g’nite, have fun watching the launch, y’all.
Am saying one last thing and will leave you to your launch…
It is the responsibility of everyone on the planet to stop this horrible practice. It is not just an image.. It is real.
MSNBC is covering it…!
I’m gonna go to my tv, I’ll come say goodby after the launch.
I wish a safe trip to the crew.
10, 9,8,…
‘night, greenwarrior.
Endeavour-”close and lock your visors”.
4 min 30 sec..:”no constraints to launch.”
One minute.
T minus 1
Beautiful!
w00t!
RonD, I hope you had a good view of the launch :-)
Good separation…!
Already 50 miles up!
Just remember up there, astronauts – keep. it. in. your. pants..
lol ET ;-)
707!
The comments on CNN are ridiculous. This is NOT a basketball game. Looks good though.
4000 miles per hour… wow!
damn. bunch of ground fog here…couldn’t see a thing.
Looks like a good one, I’m going to bed.
Gnite.
Ya mean no zero gravity sex…. what are they going to do with themselves(and each other)
Ever since I was a little kid I’ve been watching, and have been fascinated with, all the various launches in the space program — and I never fail to get a thrill out of them.
‘night, busted.
Specially during a spacewalk…
Aw sorry RonD :-(
G’night Busted, sleep well.
LoudounLib, if you ever get a chance to see one live, DO IT. Strongly recommended…!
Aloha, Busted! Hey, LL, take a look outside…!
yup! Go . Go . GO!
Speaking of which – has anyone ever read any article or interviews about whether or not any or many of the astronauts have had sex up there? It seems like the impulse would be almost irresistable. I’m a member of the five-mile club, but the 100-mile club must be rather exclusive.
You see the smoke, and flame, and then the roar just envelops you, pushing on you…it is a sense of awe the like of which I cannot accurately describe.
64 miles up, 16,000 mph…
Too much cloud cover here tonight CT, a weak Alberta clipper is sliding through :-(
Is it me or did the belly of Endeavor look like a few tiles were missing?
Yup, I’m getting the same thrill today as when I was a kid. So happy to see it going perfectly so far. Go, go, go. Tank is gone, very nice.
ouch – the Bobbit comet…that would be one wacky piece of space junk to see going by your windshield – some astronaut’s frozen penis.
oh lord ES, I hope not.
Sure, blame it on my birth province, Alberta…! 8-P
Ouch, goddammit!
Oh, that’s priceless, 707.
No astronaut have ever said that they had sex in space, not that there would be anything wrong with that… ;)
Space Truckin”
Painful, No…? ;-)
aw, sorry CT ;-)
I have a relative who in the early 60’s worked on developing the material which would be used as the shuttle tiles.
Ron @177, I’d love to see one of those launches some time. One of my friends has made the trek down to FL a few times, and he totally loved it :-)
I think the human species – especially after the scores of billions we’ve spent on this program – needs to have a young couple up there see if we can breed in zero gravity. A man-wife team on the space station would be ideal.
Ok space fans, I’m out — glad we all got to see a successful launch…good night, and god speed to the crew :-)
The father of one of my friends was involved with that ceremic tile stuff. As I understand it, those tiles can be glowing red hot but you’ll not get burned if you touch them, which sounds highly improbable to me.
There is truly nothing else like it…I am aware of how lucky I am, to be able to see such things in person…walk outside, and watch a spacecraft depart for another world…
re’s a link for sighting opportunities. On the left of that page, you can go to your country, state and town, and pretty much know when the Space station, and these days, when the shuttle goes over your head. The higher the degrees, the better the sighting…
http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/
I think that would cool for conception. I wonder how it would effect development tho.
Breed? Shoots, it could be the next Niagra, for honeymoons…! ;-)
Bonne nuit LL.
It is true that you can fire up those tiles til they glow, and you can hold them by two opposite corners.
Aloha, LL!
I had a girlfriend whose father worked on the tiles too. About all she told me, or knew, was that the chemicals used in the development of the tiles killed him.
This is sort of true. I have seen the demo, where the guy holds his hand on one side while a blow torch is applied to the other side. The thing doesn’t glow, because it doesn’t absorb and transmit heat, and can be held in the bare hand.
Amazing stuff.
Missing an He, before the re’s. Put it all together and you get Here’s.
Will there be a video feed from the matimonial suite on the ISS???
In fact, better than vi*gra, nothing keeping it down…! ;-)
We have no idea until it has been done. Some things can’t be reproduced in labs, though I guess that would be what the couple would be performing – a laboratory experiment.
I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
Freesound just got a grant:
Well, I have to go to bed. Long day tomorrow.
It was a pleasure to share that launch with you gals and guys.
Bonne nuit tout le monde, et je souhaite une mission sécuritaire pour les astronautes.
One of my friends rode his HD up to Edwards AFB to watch the second-ever shuttle landing. He said it was unreal. “Nobody could mistake it; that MoFo was visibly coming in from outer space.”
About a year ago, I heard an interview with a NASA flack who was asked about sex research in space…he flatly refused to discuss it, said something to the effect that he didn’t know, and even if he did, he wouldn’t tell. I thought he did protest too much…my working assumption since then is that there has been research on sex in space.
Who? What? When? How?
Inquiring minds want to know.
true, i used enjoy watching the experiments on nasa tv like plant growth and fire. Haven’t kept track but I’d imagine they would have had some sorta experiment involving the development of an animal fetus.
Rabbits in space.
I used to be able to see Saturn 5’s going up from my front yard…the first time I saw a shuttle launch up close, I was around a mile away, sitting on the roof of a house on Patrick AFB…I’m telling you, it’s like nothing else on Earth. Make the time to come see one before they shut down the program. It is something you’ll remember forever.
There once was a man from Adair,
who screwed his wife on the stair.
When the bannister broke,
he doubled his stroke,
and finished her off in the air.
A part of me is still waiting for the world to look like “The Jetsons”…
And with that image I will bid you all a good night. The best of all possible tomorrows to you all.
Damn! I’ve got to do that. I’ve been told that before, but further chances are now diminishing. Thanks.
I always thought Susan Helms, had that certain glow.
No disrespect intended.
G’nite RonD
muppets segue!
I got to see the Apollo 11 launch when I was a kid in Tampa – my folks packed us up in the back of the station wagon and drove across the state to Cape Kennedy. It was so exciting.
My grandmother believed it was a hoax till her dying day.
Hey, she’s in space and we’re not :)
The program has been going on for just over 31 years. The first orbital launch was almost 27 years ago. It is sort of as if the Wright Brothers’ first plane of 1903 was still the travel paradigm in 1930. Blowing off that much rocket fuel to achieve orbital velocity of that mass is one thing, but it is pretty wasteful.
Well I must call it a night myself. See you all on the flip..As The MSM World Spitzers out of control…
G’ nite firedogs
nite eureka
not since Discovery on August 22, 2001. Hope she gets back there! :)
blech, thanks for the reminder.
gn!
Back in the days of the Iridium communications satellite effort, there were a lot of interesting proposals for low-cost launch vehicles. One local outfit was proposing a light-weight craft made out of aircraft aluminum, which would be coated with a ablative coating of carbon foam. It would be towed aloft like a glider by a 747, and would rocket up to suborbital altitude on a liquid fuel rocket motor, where it would launch its rocket propelled payload. It would then skip off the atmosphere like a stone on a pond to complete a single orbit and land where it took off. At least that was the theory. When Iridium went out of business so did this project.
Funny/odd thing, eh?
Hey y’all. I’ve got to call it a nite. G’nite.
gn wigwam
nite wigwam
I grew up in the Shuttle’s heyday of the 80s. So sadly i can’t imagine what it was like for those infancy space programs. But wow, it’s still something to think about. I just wish NASA’d had the chance to develop a newer and more efficient vehicle before they retire the shuttles! This 2 year business is probably one of the worst ideas i’ve ever heard, especially without that alternative on the backburner.
Watching AppleSeed Ex Machina on the heels of the launch makes me wonder where we’re headed though. ^^ Shirow-san’s stuff always does. Whether it’s space travel or the concept of robotics/cyborgs/androids. But that’s why i’m as much of a SciFi nut as a Fantasy fangirl. ^^ Anime is the one genre that slakes my thirst in both and the whole idea of wonder. This sequel though? Kicks TOTAL Ass. Plot, action, a great mix of drama to top it off. The plot was rather pedestrian by my tastes, but it far exceeds a lot of stuff i’ve seen stateside.
morning folks…
