The Hunting of the Snark: an Agony in Eight Fits
Fit the First: The Landing
(1st of 11-ish)
“Just the place for a Snark!” the Bellman cried,
As he landed his crew with care;
Supporting each man on the top of the tide
By a finger entwined in his hair.
“Just the place for a Snark! I have said it twice:
That alone should encourage the crew.
Just the place for a Snark! I have said it thrice:
What i tell you three times is true.”
Here’s my advice on dealin with goopers:
When they talk about the surge- raise the ante- “Nuke Iraq”. This leaves em dead in the water.
i love the leghorns with prissy setting her cap on him as husband material.
(2 of 11-ish)
The crew was complete: it included a Boots–
A maker of Bonnets and Hoods–
A Barrister, brought to arrange their disputes–
And a Broker, to value their goods.
A Billiard-maker, whose skill was immense,
Might perhaps have won more than his share–
But a Banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.
There was also a Beaver, that paced on the deck,
Or would sit making lace in the bow:
And had often (the Bellman said) saved them from wreck,
Though none of the sailors knew how.
pulling up chair, settling down for story time with popcorn and spew proof drink container
The whole basis of gooperism is that they are more macho than dems. Most of em have never had a fist fight in their lives. Doesn’t take much to get their testes to crawl inside for a warm night.
(3 of 11-ish)
There was one who was famed for the number of things
He forgot when he entered the ship:
His umbrella, his watch, all his jewels and rings,
And the clothes he had bought for the trip.
He had forty-two boxes, all carefully packed,
With his name painted clearly on each:
But, since he omitted to mention the fact,
They were all left behind on the beach.
The loss of his clothes hardly mattered, because
He had seven coats on when he came,
With three pairs of boots–but the worst of it was,
He had wholly forgotten his name.
He would answer to “Hi!” or to any loud cry,
Such as “Fry me!” or “Fritter my wig!”
To “What-you-may-call-um!” or “What-was-his-name!”
But especially “Thing-um-a-jig!”
While, for those who preferred a more forcible word,
He had different names from these:
His intimate friends called him “Candle-ends,”
And his enemies “Toasted-cheese.”
Double posts wassaup??

Detestable punks, the first ones to run their mouths and then run period.
required equipment around the lake – along with spew resistant monitors and keyboards
(4 of 11-ish)
“His form is ungainly–his intellect small–”
(So the Bellman would often remark)
“But his courage is perfect! And that, after all,
Is the thing that one needs with a Snark.”
He would joke with hyenas, returning their stare
With an impudent wag of the head:
And he once went for a walk, paw-in-paw, with a bear,
“Just to keep up its spirits,” he said.
He came as a Baker: but owned, when too late–
And it drove the poor Bellman half-mad–
He could only bake Bridecake–for which, I may state,
No materials were to be had.
(5 of 11-ish)
The last of the crew needs especial remark,
Though he looked an incredible dunce:
He had just one idea–but, that one being “Snark,”
The good Bellman engaged him at once.
He came as a Butcher: but gravely declared,
When the ship had been sailing a week,
He could only kill Beavers. The Bellman looked scared,
And was almost too frightened to speak:
But at length he explained, in a tremulous tone,
There was only one Beaver on board;
And that was a tame one he had of his own,
Whose death would be deeply deplored.
(6 of 11-ish)
The Beaver, who happened to hear the remark,
Protested, with tears in its eyes,
That not even the rapture of hunting the Snark
Could atone for that dismal surprise!
It strongly advised that the Butcher should be
Conveyed in a separate ship:
But the Bellman declared that would never agree
With the plans he had made for the trip:
Navigation was always a difficult art,
Though with only one ship and one bell:
And he feared he must really decline, for his part,
Undertaking another as well.
(7 of
11-ish7)The Beaver’s best course was, no doubt, to procure
A second-hand dagger-proof coat–
So the Baker advised it– and next, to insure
Its life in some Office of note:
This the Banker suggested, and offered for hire
(On moderate terms), or for sale,
Two excellent Policies, one Against Fire,
And one Against Damage From Hail.
Yet still, ever after that sorrowful day,
Whenever the Butcher was by,
The Beaver kept looking the opposite way,
And appeared unaccountably shy.
So endeth Fit the First.
FunnyD

As far as the double post don’t let Suz put you on it’s the NSA lurkers.
Snark. BTW what does it mean when G is put at the end of a comment?
Fit the Second: The Bellman’s Speech
(1 of 8-ish)
The Bellman himself they all praised to the skies–
Such a carriage, such ease and such grace!
Such solemnity, too! One could see he was wise,
The moment one looked in his face!
He had bought a large map representing the sea,
Without the least vestige of land:
And the crew were much pleased when they found it to be
A map they could all understand.
“What’s the good of Mercator’s North Poles and Equators,
Tropics, Zones, and Meridian Lines?”
So the Bellman would cry: and the crew would reply
“They are merely conventional signs!
“Other maps are such shapes, with their islands and capes!
But we’ve got our brave Captain to thank:
(So the crew would protest) “he’s bought us the best–
A perfect and absolute blank!”
*G* = Grin
Fit the Second
(2 of 8-ish)
This was charming, no doubt; but they shortly found out
That the Captain they trusted so well
Had only one notion for crossing the ocean,
And that was to tingle his bell.
He was thoughtful and grave–but the orders he gave
Were enough to bewilder a crew.
When he cried “Steer to starboard, but keep her head larboard!”
What on earth was the helmsman to do?
Then the bowsprit got mixed with the rudder sometimes:
A thing, as the Bellman remarked,
That frequently happens in tropical climes,
When a vessel is, so to speak, “snarked.”
But the principal failing occurred in the sailing,
And the Bellman, perplexed and distressed,
Said he had hoped, at least, when the wind blew due East,
That the ship would not travel due West!
Big *G*= Big Grin,
Little*g* = little grin
In my experience, there are A LOT of Repubs that literally do want to “nuke Iraq.” They’re all for it and would say, “’bout time you seen the light!”
Perhaps those are just the 25%ers we’ll never tap into? I do think there is a certain percentage of reasonable Repubs, and I guess they’d respond rationally to your “nuke Iraq” strategy.
Fit the 2nd
3 of 8-ish
But the danger was past–they had landed at last,
With their boxes, portmanteaus, and bags:
Yet at first sight the crew were not pleased with the view,
Which consisted to chasms and crags.
The Bellman perceived that their spirits were low,
And repeated in musical tone
Some jokes he had kept for a season of woe–
But the crew would do nothing but groan.
He served out some grog with a liberal hand,
And bade them sit down on the beach:
And they could not but own that their Captain looked grand,
As he stood and delivered his speech.
Nice beaver.

rwcole- I have to admit that there were times when your no-nonsense comments totally pissed me off- those times being during the Lamont CT race. However, I have to say that your comments of late have been so VERY refreshing and much appreciated by me. Especially re: the endless primary (discussion on FDL threads!) I am so fed up with that too, esp. when people take every OT opening they can find to veer off into that.

“Friends, Romans, and countrymen, lend me your ears!”
(They were all of them fond of quotations:
So they drank to his health, and they gave him three cheers,
While he served out additional rations).
“We have sailed many months, we have sailed many weeks,
(Four weeks to the month you may mark),
But never as yet (’tis your Captain who speaks)
Have we caught the least glimpse of a Snark!
“We have sailed many weeks, we have sailed many days,
(Seven days to the week I allow),
But a Snark, on the which we might lovingly gaze,
We have never beheld till now!
“Come, listen, my men, while I tell you again
The five unmistakable marks
By which you may know, wheresoever you go,
The warranted genuine Snarks.
Yeah- maybe- but not many.

With a flavor of Will-o-the-wisp.
“Its habit of getting up late you’ll agree
That it carries too far, when I say
That it frequently breakfasts at five-o’clock tea,
And dines on the following day.

And it always looks grave at a pun.

Which it constantly carries about,
And believes that they add to the beauty of scenes–
A sentiment open to doubt.
“The fifth is ambition. It next will be right

Distinguishing those that have feathers, and bite,
And those that have whiskers, and scratch.

OK, this is weird, I keep getting “database error” but when I refresh and re-submit, it says I’m duplicating. Sigh.
Here’s the really interesting thing.
Our country is in a world of hurt- and it’s an election year- and if you go to the websites of ANY of the prez candidates- you will find solutions approaching zero as a limit.
They don’t have the faintest fuckin idea what to do- NONE of em.

What do you mean by that?
I’ve been following the remaining two candidates’ “Issues” pages on their sites, and Obama’s at least has been quite detailed for a while. Seems like Hillary has added more detail now, but for a long time she didn’t have much.
Obama’s almost has too many “plans” where my eyes start to glaze over trying to read through all the details.

pun sent me an email saying he was taking a break from the tubes for a while and to let anyone know who inquired.
hey Suz, and for those seeing the dup comments, as I have- check out the comment numbers- because those are also duplicated. Thus, if a comment shows up twice, it always seems to have the same comment number attached. So, it’s not as confusing as it might be, that is if the comments were duplicated but with different numbers attached.
Maybe it’s just Senator Stevens throwing a tantrum again.
Here’s the damn deal..Americans are unwilling to elect anyone who tells em the damned truth.
In Californina, we elected a fuckin movie star who pretended that we could continue to spend and not raise taxes and make a deficit go away. Of course the deficit got larger-
But NO ONE would vote for someone who told em taxes needed to go up
NO ONE
At bottom- the problems america faces are caused by the american public who won’t take “suck it up” for an answer.

Apparently there are big protests in Afghanistan asking our NATO allies ~ the Netherlands and Denmark~ to leave because some newspapers have insulted the Prophet once again.
Maybe we should inform the Iraqis that right-wing pundits like Coulter, Malkin, O’Reilly, Savage, and Limbaugh are constantly insulting Mohammed! Maybe they’d insist that WE LEAVE!
In addition, since such incindiery comments could cause riots…”Why do they hate our troops?”
[Just thinking of this…if they start to insult Obama’s middle name that might be grounds for getting us out of Iraq?]
c’ape, you have a link? if so, i’ll put it in the news box
Punch line of an old joke:
“Hey lady- ain’tcha a little old ta believe in Santa Clause?”
Sorta like Pelosi’s 100 hour deal last year when she took over?
That was great and really had me excited, but our Dem “leadership” has been absolute shit since then. Makes me think it was more about pacifying the Liberal “base,” and keeping us complacent so we don’t get too outta line. This has been a big part of the DLC master plan for years now.
I do know just the other day Obama was talking about his first day, where he says he’ll call the Joint Chiefs of Staff together to start the troop withdrawal out of Iraq process. He says this often, and he also has started critiquing Clinton on the torture issue, speaking eloquently about how the U.S. should not use torture for anything, while Hillary has been wishy-washy about it.
Sure, could be all talk, but of the remaining ones, he’s the only one talking this way.
Dear Mr. Fantasy, play us a tune
hey rat, how ya been
damn…should NOT use torture…ugh.
I know a conservative who actually believes this. I don’t have the training or the patience to lead him through why we pay taxes, what a society is, what a civilization is, why it depends upon us being willing to pay our fair share.
Well gee fuckin whiz- if we could just get a prez who believed in goodness- everything would be fuckin GREAT!
Ahnold just screwed Monterey County by appointing a wing nut conservative to sit on our Board of Supervisors months before the election in June – couldn’t resist screwing with an otherwise exemplary progressive who has been campaigning since the vacancy occurred when the incumbent died some months ago. No doubt he’ll fly in, play some golf with Clint and con the voters. aghhhh – he is a pain in the arse and small wonder we still call him the Terminator. aghhhh.

Americans won’t take medicine unless it’s free and buried in a gum drop.
One of my favorites, thank you.
It’s all good.
It’s funny though, that this idea the campaign has gotten so nasty and how they’re both at each other’s throats, and so on, is one of the main reasons I’ve found myself defending Obama regularly around here.
The “they both need to stop bickering” storyline seems to be popular here certainly on the frontpages, but it’s simply not true IMHO.
Obama devotes so little time to this crap, while bickering has become mostly what the Clinton campaign is about. I would think the last two weeks would make most people agree with this analysis, but it doesn’t seemed to have changed many opinions around here at least.
Obama is not perfect. Got that. However IMO, he is a far superior candidate over Clinton.
Hi all–
I have my own blog now but I’ll continue to write for FDL. Jane also wants me to stay in FDL comments because she appreciates my perspective and voice…
I think Republicans tend to be the ones who believe in perpetual motion machines, those additives that make gasoline out of water, and were the biggest suckas in the Sub-Prime home equity scams. Many probably bought the line that they could use the equity on one home that they obtained a sub-prime mortgage on, to buy another property, and use the loan on THAT to buy yet another! Soon they had themselves believing they could buy half the homes in the subdivision in their fervid amphetamine-fueled hallucinations.
Oooo…yummy! Can I have two!! Pleeeeeaze….
Hey, I’m ready for a dose of hard medicine. Tell us like it is. All those things you just listed, plus…
We MUST make an Alternative Energy moonshot. Then sell the technology to the rest of the world, pronto. Meanwhile, and this what Americans really doesn’t want to hear, we must cut out the consumption craziness.
Our education system must be rebuilt from scratch. As you say, WE are all guilty of the abyss into which we tilt. Idiots at all levels of society, how else to explain the cycle of boom/bust quicker and quicker each time. The tech bubble and bust took all of maybe 10 years. The housing bust was half that. People taking out stupid loans, and the bigwigs who should know better, giving them those loans. Now we pay to bail everyone out. We are a nation of dummies, looking for a quick fix, so why wouldn’t we get a govt that acts accordingly?
God that sounds depressing, sorry. I guess that’s why I’m escaping this place for a year!
The guy who’s ahead is above the battle- as soon as he falls behind he will become a fuckin rabid dog.
This is as clear as mathematics.

Happy Talk!!! That’s the ticket.
haven’t the d’s done that every primary so far this year?
please do stick around. we need your expertise and buoyant spirit.
Obama was behind for a long time. Way behind. Just these last couple of weeks he was way behind in TX and OH. I’d ahrdly say he went negative at any point, and he made up 10-12% in OH and nearly 20% in TX in two weeks.
Don’t know if I buy that theory.
BTW, officially Obama has won at least 4 more delegates out of TX in total. Why is BigMedia still saying, as I saw several times today, that Clinton won TX? She won the primary. He won the caucus. They go together, and if the race is “all about the delegates,” isn’t it accurate to say Obama won TX?
Well, there were a few open seats the R’s scooped back up. One dude who died in a safe red district stayed in GOoPer hands and one other one too.
But, the Democrats now hold the seats of the former speaker and the former majority leader.
Brand GOoPer is pretty tarnished, not that the mainstream media is willing to report that.

Edwards is the exception. at least i’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. would like to see him be in a position to prove his altruism and progressive ideas. what he would actually do and stand up for when in the oval office.
that is so forking cool! what part of france. my neighbor has a second place along the coast near the border with spain… coillier or something similar.
Regarding those goons that used their “perpetual equity machines” to get second homes, vacation homes, and investment property…apparently under the current bankruptcy bill the judge can compel the lender to renegotiate with the borrower.
But the Primary residence one is pretty much at the lenders control.
That means speculators and the wealthy who over-expose themselves get a break…but some poor Joe Palooka who bought a house to live in, and who failed to predict his income limits or has had a healthcare or other financial emergency…no such luck! Eviction!

Of course, when the Democrats attempted to expand this capability to live-in home-owners the banks flung poo at them and got the Zoo Keeper to threaten to veto the revision.

My sister gave Edwards the benefit of a doubt when she voted for him for Senate back in 1998. She told me she was a bit stunned at some of his votes when he was in Congress. Stuff about tax rates, the Bush tax cuts, inheritance taxes, and public campaign financing got her a little pissed.
Goodnight all you fabulous late late pups.
Au’voir!
FunnyD
evening skunk lovers…I just saw my old friend Rocki playing congas on that Traffic video posted by ratbastard…a seriously old flashback
g’nite funny d.. thank you for the lovely ode to snark and the video
hey spidey. how cool that musta been to see an old friend in a music video
We just signed a 6-month lease in Frejus, in the Cote d’Azur, two freakin’ blocks from the Med. I’m still kciking myself! That starts 9/1, gonna spend July traveling and August in Paris. Started taking french last Sept, and I really want to be conversational. Wonder if I’ll want to come home…
It’s pretty self-indulgent quite honestly, but hey, you only live once. I am dead serious about raising my daughter as a citizen of the world. I debate whether our experience is something worth sharing – I could write a book just on the 9 months (so far) of prep work.
didn’t you send me a message last week that you guys are looking to rent something?
is that correct? in Paris or elsewhere in France?
….made me feel like Methusala…or whoever he was
So Bill Clinton just said a Clinton/Obama ticket would be “almost unstoppable.” Hillary has said multiple times this week they’d make a good ticket.
Now how can that be when she’s been saying McCan’t has crossed the Commander-in-Chief “threshold” while Obama hasn’t, and all Barack has done is give a speech?
Yep. Had a hell of time finding something in Paris. Figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask.
citizen of the world, yes! More power to ya…My kids are world citizens–with two passports each (Israel and the US) and they’re better off for that…
please please write the book too–we all have stories! wonderful ones…unusual ones…helpful ones…
its forking cold down here tonight, spidey. down to 42 and there is a bitterness to the air, a sharpness that makes it feel much colder than 42
..am surprised at how mild it is here…a little nip but not too much… finally out of winter long underwear
Been watching a lot of french films lately (trying to HEAR the language) and you would love Paris Je t’aime – 20 shorts, one about each arrondisment of Paris, all by great directors. My free plug for the evening.
So, like, how can someone be ready to be vice president when they’re not ready to be president? Hmmmmmmm.
Been up for 18 hours. Bon soir.
g’nite rat
And properly so. Edwards the candidate was way more progressive than Edwards the senator. And Feingold properly bitched about that.
arrivederci even if you are a rat
speaking of rats, are the critters still making whoopie up in your ceiling?
A righteous woodshedding to be sure, but it came at an awful time.
actually, it sounds now like they are pouring sand…I swear
…if anyone can shed some light on this I would be …well…grateful
zzzzzzzzzzzzz ?
I got nothin, spidey.
sorry, spidey, maybe they are building nests?
can’t see how that translates to the sound of pouring sand right over my bed
See if you can get some Gerard Depardieu films. I love him. Cyrano is great. I’m not at all fluent but I can learn a lot from just listening.
Southern France…nice weather…people talk a lot slower than Paris…also I heard more conservative…was the Vichy government:
Between 1942 and July 1944 nearly 76,000 Jews residing in France were deported to concentration camps in the east via transit camps in France. Of these, only 2,500 returned. The Vichy authorities were directly responsible for sending over 73,000 Jews to their deaths.
Through the process of collaboration, Vichy wanted to have a good relationship with Germany, but the Nazis were not interested in treating France as an equal. They viewed France as a country who supplied raw and manufactured goods. However, “France’s population believed collaboration was just a synonym for selling out to the enemy and supporting its cause and interests over those of France.
In 1945, many of the Vichy leaders were arrested and executed for war crimes and sending Jews to die.
My bold from google
This was the area that collaborated with the Nazi…I remember a movie Guns Of Navaronne…a strategic big gun emplacement, Gregory Peck and Anthony Quinn were two actors that played part of a speacial ops force sent to blow them up. Turned out on of the French women on their team was in fact a Nazi collaborator…they murdered her on the spot…suposedly a true story. Made me think of Nancy Pelosi I don’t know why.
this rat issue seems to haunt me relentlessly
twas the best i could come up with – that did not involve the sound of bodily fluids – given the location
tred lightly on that slippery slope, bigbrother – ya don’t want a visit from the secret service
Also in Wyoming (Cheney-land) the turnout in Sweetwater county that the Republicans bragged about as “unprecedented” for their caucus had 120. The Democratic caucus in Sweetwater pulled 600!
Apparently the Republican caucuses were ghost towns…with whole precincts rescheduling them because no one even showed up!
Wyoming Republican Caucuses
One would have expected major turnouts for the Republicans, Romney had a large Mormon support base there…the Paulistas thought the had a lot of support, and there was Huckabee and McCain. Something is really odd about the lack of jnterest in the Republican race by REPUBLICANS! Either they don’t give a damn who is elected, as long as it’s a Republican…or they’ve just given up.
perhaps still in shock and disbelief?
Agreed.
Oh, No! Do you still have rats, Spiderpaws? Did you ever get some of those better rat trap things?
Home from this weekend’s concerts. They went great. Then we went and saw the Banff Mountain Film Festival, where they show a lot of short films about people doing mostly insane things on mountains, in rivers, in caves, etc…
hey et – how’s alaska tonight?
Yesterday, I came home early nursing my flu/cold/bronchitis/whatever for the tenth day. My brain was too numb to even read the blogs, so at 3:00 pm I turned on MSNBC to catch Tucker, who can be fun to analyze for a few minutes. He bagan with an interview of Gerri Peev the Scottish reporter whose interview of Samantha Power caught the Hillary’s-a-monster quote.
I was astonished when Tucker immediately started trashing the caliber of British journalism and Gerri herself for not allowing Power to take that comment off the record in real time.
My immediate thought was: “Oh my God, I wish Glenzilla could hear this.” Well, what a coincidence, I got my wish: http://www.salon.com/opinion/g…..index.html
And, in this case, Glenzilla is a good read as always.
oh wigwam, that is a horrible cold you have – or whatever it is called.
tucker gave us an insight – a frank acknowledgement really, that this is how the media conducts itself now.
Just did a little math… I tried to be pretty generous to Clinton. Let’s say we allow the Florida vote in and half the Edwards vote jumps to Hillary and half to Obama. That would give Hillary 57% (106 delegates) and Obama about 40% (76 delegates). That would be generous to Clinton. In Michigan the delegates (based on current surveys show an even split (15 delegates each). Pennsylvania is pretty close but lets give Clinton a bit of an edge there (98-90 delegates). Indiana polls show Obama winning by almost 63% (44 delegates to 28). Mississippi – I’ll give a generous break to Clinton…a 20-13 delegate split for Obama. North Carolina looks like it’ll be about 68-47 in favor of Obama. Hillary might get 20 delegates in WV to Obamas 10.
So do the math over the next few weeks…and this is being pretty generous to Clinton and giving her those two “gems” she desires.
It turns out after all this that Obama would net 323 delegates to Clinton’ 327. After all THat she gains FOUR delegates! Obama would still lead by 119 delegates.
That leaves Oregon (52), South Dakota (15), Kentucky (51), Montana (16) and Puerto Rico (55). That’s 189 delegates of which she’d have to capture 63%. Oregon is polling heavily Obama, and S Dakota will likely reflect Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska or N. Dakota…thus lean to strongly support Obama.
It would be really awkward if it came down to Puerto Rico as Hillary’s last straw to pick up 70-80% of that Commonwealth’s vote just to come close to Obama. PR can’t vote in the General Election…and she’d likely have to point out that her husband pardoned the PR Independence attackers or something. PR is actually so diverse that Obama might do quite well there…these aren’t Cubans or Mexican-Americans. They might vote more like the folks in the Virgin Islands.
Right. It so reminds me of Steven Colbert’s routine before the annual White House correspontents’ dinner.
As big as ever. It will get down below freezing at our lake tonight, for the first time in six or seven days. Really windy too. There’s a HUGE low pressure system headed our way, though, so it will probably get warmer again.
ouch, et, that wind sounds cold. i pushed submit and realized i should have modified that to your corner of alaska.
So, Obama will almost surely go to the convention with a 100+ lead in pledged delegates. So, in a reasonable universe, unless there was some unforseen reason to believe that Obama had become totally unelectable, the super delegates would opt for him. Right?
Tres interrasant…that is quite a stretch. If you haven’t seen the movie it is about the treachery of a women who threatened the mission of the US government. The “Guns” would have sunk our fleet as they passed through the Straight of Gibraltar to land in Italy to help liberate Europe. The “Team” was captured by the nazis because of the traitor even though she died. I always thought a great deal of Gregory Peck he seemed to take on rolls that were controversial. Rolls that required high character and values.
Seems like a very conservative viewpoint like my conservative very Christian sis might whisper to me… how could you say that. But them she shuns me for not professing Christ.
I have a sense of right and wrong. When I go into a library it doesn’t bother me that all the ideas in their are available for me to read. It was the Nazis that burned the book if I remember correctly.
If in fact what you say is true and the “Mind Police” are coming then here we are in 1984 and my name is Big Brother who is no longer watching you he is incarcerating us? I highly doubt that. It is true that the US Constitution says Impeachment is the remedy for high crimes and misdameanor. That would include war crimes, torture and constitutional abrogation of citizens rights.
I guess I better go run and hide. No more speaking at the Supervisors podium, the Community Servicea District…I will quietly disappear on a concentration camp train or one of those “Black Sites”. Au Revoir. Who will be next? What drama!
The comparison is simple Bushco war has killed over 1 million Iraqis assuming a life is a life then those congress critters that supported the funding of the killing and turned their back on the blood letting are not like the collaborators in Vichy that were in fact tried convicted and sentenced to death. I would think that people for peace at least anti war or people who are against killing might see a concept of letting people die without doing what you can to prevent it as dispicable. I should have explained more fully that a war crime with any other name is a war crime just the same. Whether one disagrees or not your interpretation of mu comment is I believe a stretch as I oppose killing a solution.
I found your statement about the secret service far more threatening.
Just sayin no offence intended to you or anyone else.
There is a good deal of treachery goin on in light of the 06 election promises I have seen expressed many times by FDL commentors.
Even the mods miss “edit”
i’m just happy preview is back
I view Suzanne’s comment to you a little differently. Your comment about Pelosi could be interpreted as an invitation for someone to do violence to her. She is second in line to be President of the United States. It is the Secret Service’s job to protect such people. They don’t take threats lightly. Regardless of your intent, your statement, apparently comparing Pelosi to a Nazi spy who was killed when her treachery was discovered, could be viewed as a threat. I thought Suzanne did you a favor by pointing that out. Besides, she is the moderator of this blog, and this blog does not condone threats of violence. So if you did not mean it as any kind of threat, you might want to be a little more careful about how you word your statements here.
If I came into your home and expressed myself in what you considered to be an inappropriate fashion, I would expect you to say something.
Likewise, I expect that FDL has expectations of conduct, which we are all bound to.
Not your house.
Hey Big Bro,
I’ve seen Guns of Navarrone many times, and I giggle each time it gets to the Nazi scramble scene when the good guys are about to take out the guns. One of the extras distinctly pronounces the line: “jaw wowl mean her,” which is a phonetic reading of the the German: “Ja Wohl, Mein Herr!”
Also, I still maintain that Nancy Pelosi, like General Yamashita, is a war criminal for failing to excercise her authority, and blocking the exercise of authority by others, to attempt to stop this President from his admitted and on-going war-criminality. IMHO, when this is over, she needs to be brought to justice.
3.9 in la (san bernadino area) followed by a 3.1.
It was very mild.
mild works :) those forkers scare me – shrudder
They scare me too, but they are the best reminder I’ve had – several times – about how limited our senses are. Each time there were pets around, they tried to warn us.
not token. we had a good shaker last year and he jumped outta his bed all panicky with a wtf look about him.
When I first came to town some decades ago, a friend took me out for my first Mexican meal. At the end of the very fine meal, my mouth was burning and as I stood up my knees seemed to turn to rubber. “Damn, that stuff packs a wallop,” said I to myself, blaming the wobbles on the Mexican cuisine …. until somone said “earthquake” and I noticed the chandelier swinging like a pendulum.
I am happy the Dems are kickin ass and takin numbers all over the good ol USA, I was listening to Hannity quite by accident, he was going on about the Dems fightin each other and muddling. How pathetic that all they have to talk about.
Don’t want to hear Russ L or Newt G (that does not stand for grin) again as long as I live.
I like the explainin Cinnamonape is doin…
Today was good listening to the Leslie Byrne with Howie Klein of Blue America who asked her about impeachment, didn’t answer. but he said he wanted impeachment for the same reason I do to get all the crimes out in the open…as in open government. That will help a dem landslide. It was not my goal to remove the bush wacko from office although I would not at all object..need I not remind you of Katrina where Edwards reetired as a candidate…or the war in Iraq…the fraudulent contracts for billions…that enriched his cronies also McSames like McConnell a long Navy and private intell career with contracts for Booz who is in a buyout deal with Carlyle who will own all our messages including this one. Who’s father was head of CIA, G Herbert pals with J EDgar the incestual list rolls like a military drum beat from Vietnam ti Iraq. They never get the enemy and we always pony up or sacrifice or both….the ponzi real estate scheme that just broke the the global economic system… the big oil polluters that sit in the seat of power in the White House charging us $4.00 a gallon for gas they produced the housing bubble that will make millions homeless or broke in the coming economic disaster.
Tell me there is no conflict of interest. Tell me there is no crimes here.
Tell me they have taken away many of the right for which my American family has defended for almost 400 years or struggled to achieve. Shame I am not hiding never have.
Freedom is a part of my DNA anything else is an obomination. As Patrick Henry said Give me Liberty or give me Death. If you want to be free that is a great motto to live by
laughing – i’ve eaten mexican that has left me with wobbly knees – but usually after dousing the fire in my mouth with margaritas
Bro: Those who’d trade essential freedom for a bit of safety deserve neither and will lose both.
Unfortunately, at that point I had yet to learn the wonders of the Margarita. But was was introduced to Dos Equis, which is also pretty good.
I used to believe that tequila was my friend…
until I found Negro Modelo.
To all a pleasant evening goodnight.

G’nite, Bro.
G’nite, Suzanne.
Good stuff, but a bit heavy for me. Right now, my favorite from Mexico is Bohemia.
I don’t feel too bad about the “heavy”… I have friends who treat Guinness as it’s own food group.
First, I wanbt people to consider calling the other party the REPUBLIKLAN Party until they stop calling your party, the Democrat party.
Second, help take back America every single day, even before the 2008 election.
Thank you.

After deciding long ago that Guinness was “too heavy” on the basis of what I tasted in bottles, I recently changed my mind after a bar opened nearby that has very fresh Guinness on tap — it was way lighter than I recalled. And maybe, I should retry Negro Modelo — those judgements were made decades ago.
It is
Alright. It’s time to crash. G’nite all.
Our little English pub, The Prince of Wales, closed recently. Sad day, as they had the good stuff on tap.
Goodbye Windsor Burger.

Thanks.
Guinness in bottles is for those that know no better. Years ago Guinness was a wonderful drink poured lovingly by careful bartenders striving for the perfect pint then the powers that be at Guinness decided that an easier tap system should be employed as fewer and fewer bar people knew, or cared, about pouring the perfect pint. So now the tap systems in use (in the USA) are fixed so that even the least caring of bartenders can pour an adequate or “tourist” pint. It is not very good but certainly better than bad.
It was many moons ago (1980) that Guinness employed me to go to bars and show the staff how to pour a perfect “priest” pint. It was a grueling experience but I survived.
Guinness is the food of the gods.
PS. What the hell time is it anyway?
Poor you… :-)
Epitomizing the phrase, “The journey is it’s own reward.”
One small sip for man………
Thank you Mod. If you looked at my post this does not appear about me or my site. It appears more about crushing the right wing by calling their corporate supporters and forcing them to get us the legislation we want or they lose our business.
Nice!
nite all
Good morning all.
I want my hour back.
I’ll be with you in a minute.
Take your time.
Guinness: liquid bread
Okay, back to bed, must have been abducted by aliens, got a whole 60 minutes missing… Where’s agent Scully ?
I think Scully’s at two thirty
Good Morning, I was glad to awake in the same place I fell to sleep. I was afraid I’d be wind swept away.
David Greenberg who has a piece in Slate The Long Goodbye, It’s too early to talk about Hillary’s withdrawal is on Washington Journal right now
Mornin’, Elliott -
Looks like lotsa people sleeping in today. Watching Greenberg with you….
Morning Waccamaw!
How’s your weather this weekend?
I’m lurking.
Well, I just moved back to the eastern end of the state and temps were in the 30’s last nite. Miserably gusty yesterday with heavy surf which probably means we lost even more shoreline. It’s nice to be back b/c there’s some real color on the trees and the bulbs are in full bloom vs. the mountains. Skies very clear but haven’t checked weather forecast for daytime temps.
Whut’s it like up your way? PA or somewhere in that neck of the country?
Hi, Mr. Cbl. Gotta couple of URLs to post but thought I would wait for new thread.
Good Morning Mr.Cbl, I’m glad somebody’s lurking about.
We got 19 inches of snow since friday. Winds gusted to 55 miles an hour during the night. Numerous roads were closed during the night, a few still are closed. I’m going to go take some pictures.
I am SOOOO very EPU’d! I want my hour back… Just to prove that I’m not dead, it’s MoDo and Kristof in the NYT today. MoDo says if Barack Obama thinks Hillary Clinton has cut him down to size lately, he’d better imagine what his life would be like as the Clintons’ vice president. In his column titled “Obama and the Bigots” Mr. Kristof states that with countless people spreading scurrilous rumors that Barack Obama is a Muslim, the most appropriate response is a denial followed by: And so what if he were? Frank Rich is on vacation.

Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready for any other late wakers, and I’ve got lemon poppyseed muffins. I like daylight savings time after a few days, but the first day or two make me feel jet-lagged.
