Let us consider that as long as our Presidential Candidates can stop pumping up the competition (the soon to be disappearning John McCain) this nomination fight may actually be good news for Democrats ("Take that Cavuto!")
More people say they are Democrats than said so before voting started in this year's presidential contests while the number of Republicans has remained flat, a survey showed Thursday.
The Associated Press-Ipsos poll had additional bad news for the GOP: The number of independents and moderates satisfied with President Bush and the country's direction has dipped to record or near-record lows...
The poll showed 52 percent call themselves Democrats, up from 45 percent in an AP-Ipsos survey in mid-December. Thirty-five percent say they are Republicans, about the same as December's 37 percent.
So, once again, try to avoid the over-the-top rhetoric (and keep your spinners from saying "like Ken Starr" or "she's a monster") and maybe just maybe we'll have both a President and substantial majorities in Congress.
Meaning bi-partisanship will work for a change.

Good morning Attaturk.
My idea of bi-partisanism is for a bunch of Republicans to rebel and vote for Democrats from one end of the ballot to the other.
Both campaigns need to channel their snark and nasty impulses to the big, fat targets of Bush and McSame. Lord knows there is plenty of material to work with and they can practice riffs that either or both could use this fall.
I was actually angry with both candidates yesterday for the silly bullshit backbiting. I wanted desperately to be able to all of their chatterers to just please shut up.
Will someone please tell the junior Senator from NY that McStupidbatshitcrazyinsane will not be a better President than Barak Obama so knock it off. It is bad for not just party, not just democrats, it is bad in the long run for the country.
I find myself concerned that they will destroy on another and let that crazy war monger win in November. This cannot be allowed to happen.
Either of them would be superior to Bush or McSame. They need to put forth their positive ideas for policy and snark the Republicans. Circular firing squads are just stupid.
They also need to read the riot act to their staffs and let them know that it is fine to shoot out from the home fort and totally inappropriate to shoot within. Sometimes the supporters/staff need to get over themselves and just support their candidates.
Good morning.
The dems BOTH need to start fighting against Insane McSame and stop the pettiness against each other. The Hagee endorsement and the Bush endorsement should be their focus right now.

This is a little YouTube 30 second bit that works for all of us.
perfect! i am going to post that at my place.
And it’s up: Insane McSame
I just sent it to my sister in Kuwait.
Good morning fellow Texans.
That hug should be the last visual of any and all Dem ads.
agreed!
Perhaps we can do a parody of “The Ancient Mariner.” McSame is old, a navy man, and stuck with an albatross named W.
might be a little to high-brow.
something about twins might be better.
or cloning
Mr.Cbl here,
I learned yesterday that the 2 hard right owners of my place of employment, one a pragmatist the other a die hard ditto head, both voted for Obama on Tuesday. This in the very red Williamson county. Both explaining that they believe Obama will be better for their business. Neither has ever voted for a D before.
Hope is alive.
WOW Mr Cbl!
cbl2, we live in the exurbs of Jarrell in North Williamson County. TexBetsy, we are in one of the red counties from County Judge on down. Our precinct had more Dem voters this election than Repubs for the first time in twenty five years that I’ve voted here.
On the one hand that’s amazing Texas Ellen. On the other hand, there was no real need for repubs to come out and vote since things are already pretty settled in their party.
It’d have to be visual along with some smart use of a few verses. *grin* It’d work, but i’m not sure exactly how to adapt it. I really need to learn how to make videos on my own, dammit.
*grumbles at her lack of funds for vid rendering software*
Ah, yes, it certainly works for me!
From ThinkProg, here’s a whole montage of shots that can be used to keep it fresh, make it clear that that wasn’t just a thing, whatever.
315!
my windows xp has a program that makes slideshows and adds music. those can then be uploaded to youtube.
You can get moviemaker.
In Jarrell, voting is a social event. We have a total of right at 1000 registered voters. Lines are no problem. For the first time the Dems got a ballot reader for the paper ballots that kept them for any recount. Yea!!!
I worked as a poll judge for twenty years, here.
Thanks Raven
Yay for paper ballots!
Good morning. Lotta Texans this morning. We got 7 inches of snow in Denton yesterday.
That’s quite a bit of snow! Cold rain here but I haven’t left the house since Wednesday.
It was chilly here, but we haven’t gotten any snow or ice this year.
Ellen, were you living in Jarrell when the F5 tornado hit about 10 years ago? My daughter drove through about and hour before, coming back from San Antonio.
We are in Hutto, the south east part of Williamson county and turnout on Tuesday was staggering. The 2 caucus sites were overwhelmed. It was wonderful.
huge turnout here in travis county as well
don’t send me no more flowers,
here in San Francisco…
if you’re going to San Francisco,
be sure to wear your flowers in your heart,
if you’re going to San Francisco…
We have yet to see the caucus numbers. Any word on when that info might be available?
i have no idea
Ha, where’s John Phillips when we need him?
Yup, I was the only one home and saw it from our front porch. We are about 1/2 mile south of where it finally lifted and we got some “rainfall” checks, pictures, magazine pages, etc on the ranch. I think the website that I set up is still in the tubes somewhere. I knew about half of the folks that were killed. Terrible time.
Just from the pictures, that’s the worst I’ve ever seen. Even tore bermuda grass out of the ground. The same spring, my son missed one in Oklahoma City by about an hour, driving down from Tulsa.
My son is an Obama delegate to the county caucus. Those delegates will select whatever number is allocated for the state convention and those folks will elect the delegates to the national convention. The County meets on the 29th. He will tell me what the ratio and number of delegates are for that meeting. He hopes to go to the state convention.
Great for your son!
The Jarrell tornado stripped the asphalt off the road, totally removed every stem of wheat in a field ready to harvest, took the hair off cattle that were killed. Just stunning.
i am going to try for more sleep.
Sweet dreams and painless rest, TexBetsy! Dream of getting rid of Cornyn.
thanks ellen!
so ou actually got those tags yesterday? I thought they said your zipcode wasn’t on the list for overnighters…and that you would get them today…
Wow, that’s what the pictures looked like. I’ve lived in Texas all of my life, except for 4 years in Air Force and a couple of 2-year periods in Louisiana, but I’ve only seen one tornado from a distance. I hope to keep it that way.
when republicans start voting for the issues their constituents want rather then the corporations that fund their campaign, THEN we will be talking about bi pratisent
just about every democratic platform IS bi particent, the majority of both democrats and republicans want those platforms and us “wing nuts” on the left are centrists, we are NOT extreme
but the problem here is that the corporate world recognized the republicans might not always be in power and they started buying democrats as well as republicans
that has to stop
we have to remove the democrats that are voting for their corporate sponsors
best case scenario, we get some real finance reform, make these elections public funded instead of private
we are gonna have alot of work undoing the damage of the federalists, corporatists, morton freidmans and libertarians have done
and in the mean time we are gonna have our hands full keeping the democrats from drinking that kool aid
lots of work
IF WE WIN THE PRESIDENCY
if we don’t our country is lost
why is mccain gonna be disapearing?
Good morning, pups. It’s Bobo and Krugman. Bobo typed something called “Playing by Clinton Rules,” and he says Senator Barack Obama doesn’t have an impressive record of experience or a unique policy profile. New politics is all he’s got. He loses that, and he loses everything. (Well, everything except the election to McSame…) I wonder why he’s not extolling the virtues of his newly-minted official candidate? Mr. Krugman writes about “The Anxiety Election” and says the state of the economy could give Democrats a huge advantage — especially with white working-class voters who supported President Bush in 2004.

The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and I’ve got a selection of bagels and cream cheese. It’s Friday! Have a splendid day.
Good morning Attaturk. The republic party has become America’s Rotten Food In The Refrigerator. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, poor republic party.
Sure did!
I missed something, could someone tell me why mccain is “soon to be disapearing”?
Because the right wingers are going to pull a rabid rabbit out of their hat, Perris? I think they will.
i forgot to say good morning to Attaturk…*g*
I trust Barack to put competent well-qualified people in place in his Cabinet. I don’t see him doing what Georgie & Dickie did, which was to put cronies in instead. Big difference. And….experience as a POW doesn’t seem like a qualifier to me. In fact, it scares me to have someone like that in charge of the hot buttons & codes!
Wishful thinking I assume. Why should McBus try to make noise right now? The “Dems” are beating up on each other like children in a schoolyard, Clinton2 is getting petulant about the MI and FL voting… I am waiting for her to stamp her feet and go on a tear jag… Obama is showing his (campaign’s) naievte with the blunder on NAFTA. Dean is saying “go fund yourself” while looking for a bazillionaire to pay for a re-do.. In Congress the dems are rolling over and kissing the feet of the chimpenfeuhrer. Why should McBus get in the way of the suicide march. If I were the gooper candidate I would hide from the press and raise funds from the laughing right wing base.
Good Morning, Today show leads with the “monster” comment and Good Morning America has JFK’s possible love child.
Morning one and all,
Imagine a just justice department and double the size one half for current case load and one half to prosecute the criminals who now sully their office. America land that I can love again. sweet!
DOW 12,000 !!!!
Only 24,000 more to go.
Too bad the derivative has the wrong sign.
Pretty scary times ahead for the market.
Allan, what does “only 24,000 more to go” mean? I don’t understand the market like some do. Care to explain in simple terms? ;-)
Having two oilmen in the White House hasn’t done us a lick of good. All that hand holding with the Saudis cuts no mustard with OPEC. Today we will see if we can exceed yesterday’s 105/bbl.
My guess is it’s a reference to this book, but I may be wrong.
A historical reference: the much-derided book by two nitwit “economists”,
one of whom, James K. Glassman, now has Karen Hughes’s old job of explaining
to people who we’re bombing that it’s for their own good.
Centimeters of snow this weekend for you!
Marion, that wasn’t the simple answer I was looking for. LOL I think my brain just exploded. ;-)
As TexasEllen pointed out, having two Oil Maggots in the White House hasn’t done a damn thing in keeping oil/gas prices down. Can you imagine if these assholes had been in the food business their whole lives? A loaf of bread would be $12! Jees.
Or the speed in which my roof collapses! Yikes. Ten more inches of heavy wet snow. *kicking Mother Nature in the chops*
Thanks Allan. So what you’re saying is those who are in “the know” are really the ones who are helping with the destruction of our nation on all fronts? Anyone know where Karen Hughes is today? I’m scared!
Okay, gotta get ready for work. Have a great day everyone. It’s Friday….what news will be dumped on us? I’m afraid to find out. ;-)
Mornin’ Attaturk and Firedogs,
orig. cbl here.
Digby agrees with Attaturk
Digby - calm the hell down y’all
oh and don’t allow your primary fatigue to pump up Corp Media memes
Crosstimbers - 7 inches in Denton ?!?! - yikes! hope you don’t have to be out on the roads
Oh, Lordy — I had managed to forget about her. Now you’ve got me wondering what fresh hell she’s cooking up…
I’m freaking out because my kids are on the verge of opting out. They are not engaged in the political process for the first time to have their candidate dismissed by a fellow Democrat as a one-speech wonder and imply that the opposition has more of what it takes to protect America. After yesterday my son called to say, “Say goodbye to the issues and to that glorious turnout vote we have been building so assiduously.” Time to do something or we’ll be back to fighting for 50% plus 1 and there will be no coalition to enact a progressive agenda. I’m old enough to remember when Nixon was elected because many supporters of Eugene McCarthy could not bring themselves to support Hubert Humphrey, who had not distanced himself from Johnson and the Vietnam War.
Jusat as I thought!
Good mornig CBL!
FDL toobz hiccup…double posts…
Karen Hughes has restored Austin’s missing idiot. Crawford will have to wait for a few more months to restore their village to it’s need for an idiot.
No, everything is pretty much closed or delayed opening this morning. It’s 29 deg. and will probably be above freezing by mid morning, so I expect the roads to be clear pretty quick.
Time to go get with the chores.
Well I don’t know how this primary scuttlebut is all going to play out. I do believe this now…Hillary IS a monster, I don’t know if a surrogate of ones campaign should say it, but from what I hear from all of my friends who work on the Hill…that is what they are ALL saying privately, even the ones that work for some of Hillary’s supporters. They all think the latest Hillary meme that she and Mccain are ready to be Commander in chief, is going over like a lead balloon. I really think this is going to be really bad in the long run.
Unfortuanately for us, the Village
has
lots
of
idiots.
mornin’ to the hotness - Cardinal lost Pac 10 Title to Bruins in OT - it is March afterall
TexasEllen - let’s not forget all the good news out of Bell County either - Fort Hood went 2 to 1 Dem, better yet, local first timer (zero $ or name recognition) outpolled sitting Cong. John Carter by 18,000 votes - tells me the majority wasn’t there to game Dem nominee :)
it seems like it’s not up anymore
When you think about our greatest presidents when did experience trump judgment? I think that Hillary has crossed a dangerous threshold but not the one she is alluding too.
oops, youtube said it wasn’t available anymore but it is
got it
Last night was the first time I actually saw the clip of HRC saying that she and McCain had “a lifetime of experience” and Obama had a speech, along with a later, similar speech. Although I voted for Obama, I’ve been defending and rationalizing for HRC for the sake of party unity, but seeing that pretty much tore it with me.
I’m starting to wonder why Lieberman stripped of superdelegate status for endorsing McCain, if HRC can remain a candidate while endorsing McCain.
Actual SNOW falling on the way to G’town this morning. Snow still on the ground here now.
You said it! I am so sick and tired of defending Hillary when she obviously doesn’t deserve it.
And it gets even better if you read this.
When the fuck did Hillary start writing the GOP’s campaign ads?
And when is she gonna knock it off!
I’ve lost much respect for her as a candidate. For all the talk of momentum after last Tuesday, these comments clearly reflect the fact that they know “the math” is still against them.
So, the approach becomes “McCain & I” are the Very Serious Candidates and junior here just made a speech. This is for the benefit of the superdelegates , because she can’t win unless they go against the popular vote & pledged delegates.
She is risking the Clinton legacy with this approach, and I don’t think it’s gonna work. All she is succeeding at is alienating Democratic voters. There’s not a chance in hell the pledged delegates will flip, and the supers aren’t going to give her this election if she remains behind.
ANY Dem is better than ANY R, this time around…
They give new meaning to the phrase “Oily politicians.”
+29, huh? That’s better than the -11 here!
http://www.weather.com/outlook.....=whatwhere
Maybe by the time you click the link the temp will be higher, but the predicted high for the day here in the twin cities is only +4.
In terms of veracity — which may mean little these days — the “monster” comment is more accurate than the Ken Starr reference. I used to view Hillary Clinton benignly. But attacking Obama by elevating the stature of McCain betrays a level of personal ambition that has blinded her to what is best for progressive politics and the Democratic Party.
