Kate Nash – Birds
I stumbled across this lovely YouTube a few weeks ago and set it aside to share with firedogs sometime soon. In three short weeks almost a million people discovered it. I guess I need to listen to my first instinct and post these gems right away if we are going to stay on the tip in these Late Late times.
What’s on your mind tonight?

Hiya all — ES, LL, Suz…
Aloha, LL! How’s Virginy, tonite?
Is Kate Nash a new recording artist?
tw3k, there is no rss feed for the news
And CT, oops! Sorry, love..,
Eureka, I’d never heard of Kate Nash until now — I like her sound very much. Thanks for this!
Aloha CT! Really quiet here tonight, how are things in the isles?
tw3k, was this the article you were looking for?
Hey Chris :-)
Evening ES.
The youtube says the vid is no longer available.
Suzanne left you some pics on the previous thread.
Kate Nash
q thanks – and i got the video to work fine – were you viewing it via this page or did you click out?
yup! thanks, my browser is poky.
Refreshed, works now.
Hey! LL
What a day or two…terrible ice storm yesterday. I walked home from the polls step by step.
Hi. Anyone see this from TPM? Looks like it was the Clinton campaign accusing the Obama campaign for what the HC campaign had done on the NAFTA story.
“The Canadian Prime Minister’s chief of staff has reportedly been fingered as the source of NAFTA-gate. And it turns out he focused mainly on Hillary Clinton’s campaign as being all about rhetoric on opposing free trade.”
http://tpmelectioncentral.talk…..said_h.php
Chris, we got rain here after you got your ice storm — torrential, like a monsoon here at times last night.
q – those are lovely eye candies you left for me – thank you
No worries, M’dear! *g* Nice clear evening here in the Isles, LL!
Thanks, did it when the sun was coming out, late afternoon. Record snow fall this winter, just beautiful.
Hello all. I got caught up in the end of a documentary about Henri Cartier-Bresson.. one of my favorites.
The youtube is working on my page.
Mr. CE dropped me at the polling place. I walked home in a bower of ice — couldn’t believe it! My umbrella had a cover of ice that shattered like glass breaking. Today, four inches of snow NOT plowed by 8:45. I have to move to a better climate.
Eureka!
I think we had a few refresh issues. Worked for me.
Please adopt me…
Chris, you folks who live in the snow belts around the country definitely have my sympathy this winter; it’s been so rough for you all. Hopefully spring is just around the corner.
Lovely song ES.
Pascale Picard just popped up on the Québec scene. Sings in english, wich pisses off a lot of francophones. I think she’s wildly good.

howdy late night pups!
i don’t see fisa on the house schedule tomorrow (and i didn’t see any emergency meeting of the house rules committee on fisa)… so if nothing happens
tomorrowtodaythursday, i think it would be unlikely on friday. and that means we may have gotten another week to push on our reps!ES — Henri Cartier-Bresson – greatest French photographer, with Lartigue and Atget.
most excellent news, selise. thanks so much for letting us know
Hi Chris, LL, ES, Suz, everyone.
selise, have you picked up any scuttlebutt why its being pushed back on the calendar?
What a winter. Monday: 66 degrees!! Yea spring! Today: 19 and snow – bleergh.
no. but then i don’t have connections…
*sigh* I love old B&W masters.
Did you see this in late nite thread?

Hey Margot :-)
Christine, where are you?
Hey Margot — sent greetings late last thread. Thought maybe you were gone for the evening. Trying to play catch-up for time away.
margot, ChrisE, have all the national press types left and have ya stopped cringing when the phone rings?
selise, neither do i – is why i was asking :)
i’m hoping it’s because they don’t have the votes to give cheney what he wants.
hey! just because i’m a cynic that doesn’t mean i can’t dream. ;-)

Snowy Cleveland Heights. Work: Cleveland Museum of Art. Hiya Quebecois!
My congress critter sent mer a letter stating her opposition to immunity for the telcos
I oppose retroactive immunity for telecommunications carriers because I think it would be grossly irresponsible for Congress to grant blanket immunity for companies without even knowing whether their conduct was legal or not. Retroactive immunity would also give little incentive for telecommunications carriers to follow the law.
The underlying premise of FISA is that all domestic surveillance of American citizens must comport with the Fourth Amendment and that purely foreign intelligence is largely beyond the reach of U.S. law. When American intelligence and law enforcement need to investigate foreign targets operating within our country, FISA recognizes that judicial oversight is necessary in order to protect the Constitutional rights of Americans.
nahant, we have the same congresscritter – anna is great.
*waving to Suz* I hope you all had a great time at the latest meet-up! Have not been able to hang out here much this week, working some crazy hours through Friday and then back to my semi-normal schedule.
Chris, be careful! I’m making really good use of some old roofing shingles as a path out to my car. I should just tie them to my feet like Darling Clementine. ;)
Very nice Thank you.
I like her spunk… she acts like she actually cares about the constitution
woo hoo! excellent.
been a busy week for me too (laughing) teddy should have the pictures up any day now.
she’s taken the progressive position on each major issue (based on my memory so add a few grains of salt)
i have really been impressed with her
did egregarious make it to your meet up?
Now that is a mind picture that makes me laugh like crazy. I, too, have no path to the car that is without snow. I shuffle like an old person, and drag all my bags. WHY, WHY can’t I have a real driveway?
Good, Suz, can’t wait to see them.
Once upon a time I loved working the swing shift — but now? Not so much. I guess I have that “day dude” thing going on now.
Eureka Springs,
Are you representing yourself geographically? Are you the Arkansas Eureka Springs, or the California Eureka Springs?
Oh… never mind.
I’m writing about this:
I’ve known tips, a good one was UNPH in 2000. (Oh… never mind.) A bad one is here.
I’m wondering if anyone here knows about solar energy companies we can speculate on right now so that we can become rich? I looked into viable solar energy companies associated with Silicon Valley and they aren’t offering opportunities to the public. However, PBS’s “Nightly Business Report” is starting to highlight stocks that almost any fool will understand are meant to be run up a flagpole before the foolish public is decimated once again as they lose their money on a bad suggestion from a malevolent crew.
Shall we discuss how to get obscenely rich by speculating on alternative energy? Wouldn’t that be more fun than navel-gazing whether Hillary is an innie or an outie?
You be the judge.
Chris, I’m sorry, I did see it but got distracted.
Suz, yes they are gone. It’s very quiet and peaceful now.
she sure did…

Hello Christine!
We had snow on Monday and are expecting more for the next few days.. I am low on firewood and it’s way to muddy to haul more wood in now. This could get interesting.
It is a shame I’m up so late — MR. CE is flying to UK and I’m just enjoying the quiet without tv on.
we are hitting the high 60’s in the day but still getting down into the 30’s at nite. not quite spring here yet.
Interestingly, my mom is jumping through the hurdles to establish an Adult Care center, with my wife and I providing 24/7 care,… My mom is an RN and a Doc, however, not MD… Public Health Policy at NAU… She’s gonna reverse mortgage her home…! 8-)
My nest egg is gone…! ;-)
Hiya Quebecois,
We are in a huge building campaign now, until 2012. Galleries are opening up starting late June, 2008. Please visit! I’m a reference librarian.
Nice, not mice…
Eureka, glad you liked it, been wanting to share that one for a while.
I am in Arkansas now, but Eureka CA is one of my other favorite areas. I almost sailed from Eureka to Alaska several years back but the boat had problems. It may still be in the Eureka harbor now. 65 foot monster..be warned! *g*
Good night everyone, and thanks ES for the lovely video :-)
*sigh* Aloha, LL!

So why don’t these militarist frauds retire then?
“Defense” is completely so Orwellian a term it is hard to comprehend how vulnerable the American people are to having their pockets picked by superfluous fearmongers selling snake oil to a vexatiously ignorant populace.
Who should the American public defend themselves against? Clearly the present danger is a handful of rapacious Republican reptiles resplendent with rapier-won baubles, such as cost-plus Eric Prince contracts destroying the American treasury… and fabulous and anti-fabian fortunes being won by the dick-headed dickwads who run Exxon, BP, Shell and of course, the Saudis.
America is engaged in a class war, and it is fighting for the enemy. What a bunch of dimwits Americans are.
lol.
gotta buy a ticket first.
Interesting…but fully expected. After all, PM Steve Harper is a Conservative who fully supports NAFTA. Why would he authorize the leak of something that would actually HURT someone that he would want to have as a negotiating partner. The leak itself, and its timing, was the “tell” on this. They were going to bring down Obama before he had a chance to respond. Give the report enough time to go viral, but not enough time to have the sourcing and other facts to be exposed.
But Pennsyltucky isn’t exactly an area that is unafflicted by industrial job-losses. So if this gets out there it may have some resonance.
On the product page, they say they’re sold out for the next twelve months. Looks like a winner.
hey!
who you calling a dimwit?
Amen, brother Ray, Sing it!
Europe is providing more government support for their alternative energy companies than we are also even if a Dem wins it will take time for new laws to be passed supporting these companies.
Plus many European companies have factories here. German solar companies are good. But Wind power produces more power at a cheaper cost the best pure play in wind is Vestas Wind Systems from Denmark. Sure GE is bigger and American but its so big that wind can’t raise the companies profits up much.
China and India have the most potential for growth and are trying to catch up with the tech. But their stock markets are real high I would set money aside in gold or a foreign currency and buy after another worldwide market crash.
Vestas is the only thing I would recommend right now.
Not for my mom, she’s probably in better shape than I, shhh… No, Two avenues, rehabilitate an existing home, I rent, or, build one… The State is desperate for long term care outside of a hospital setting, $3500 per patient as opposed to $10-15,000… I’m game and my wife is a CNA…
I thought Hillary said his name was Medvedova…(which means “Little Bear Bitch”…or Sow)…I’m sure he was happy to hear his name mashed up that way.
Haven’t the Russkies been doing this sort of buzzing of US naval operations for about a year now?
They were doing it in the sixties, seventies, eighties, nineties…
Nahant,
Been there, done that:

You know, you’re going to have to get up a hell of a lot earlier in the afternoon if you are going to get ahead of my on the aristocracy learning curve.
Let’s start a class war, shall we?
LOOK, LOOK at HOW ORWELLIAN THIS HAS BECOME:
If you Google “Marxist.org” you get this fraudulent website:
http://www.marxist.org/
This is silly pabulum.
If you use the plural, you get:
http://www.marxists.org/
This is useful.
Take a look at this astonishing article. This is V.I. Lenin talking about the futility of an aristocracy fighting a foreign war. You will immediately understand how this resonates today:
http://marxists.org/archive/le…../china.htm
This is an essay on the nature of imperialism. You will immediately recognize George Bush as Czar Alexander and the invasion of China as the invasion of Iraq.
Or, maybe you won’t. If you are a loyal Hillary fan.
Sorry,CT, what is CNA?
Time for some shut eye.
Nightnightall.
Its not traded yet publicly set up a Google alert to find out when it goes public and or talk to your broker about buying after it becomes public.
The tech is interesting and the buzz around this stock is great.
Hey, they’re re-airing the Pete Seeger montage on PBS here…!

Certified Nurse’s Aide… She’s tended to many Hospice patients…!
Yeah…but they’re our allies now ;-) I read one report that the Chinese have been doing similar things. In one case a Chinese fighter suddenly emerged directly on top of a fleet exercise without any of the ships noticing it on radar. Apparently they have some new stealth technology that they are testing. Maybe the Russians have it, too…and are simply seeing when they get reactions.
Bon Nuit!
CT, watch or record it..It’s really very good.
I was on a conference call with 11,000 other Ohioans in my district this evening. Our congressman answered questions people on the phone asked. One was about renewable energy. He was very enthusiastic about wind energy, and hoped to have plants here to build the necessary parts. I hope so too.
time for me to head out – i’m still tired from last nite. g’nite all
In the interest of full disclosure I’m in SolarWorld a German solar company and Vestas wind systems from Denmark. I just wish Google would give them a stock chart on their Google finance pages.
Then I would brag with a link to their 5 year charts.
We have a dozen aircraft carriers. We have another dozen ships – LPH’s and LHA’s – that we don’t call aircraft carriers that are more capapble than any other nation’s aircraft carriers. We sail them up to the edge of dozens of countrys’ territorial waters. Every day.
The aircraft from our aircraft carriers have killed millions of people since WWII. The Soviets, and now the Russians are concerned about these awesome weapons of mass destruction that move about at 45 miles per hour very near to their country. Their crews need to be trained in all aspects of this potential threat.
I enjoyed it fully the first time…! ;-)
Bonne Nuit, Ma Cheri!
Wind power could power electric tractors for the farmers plus farms have a lot of land so nobody near by would get angry about the rotor noise. Which I don’t hear much but then again my hearing isn’t that great.
Its good to hear Ohio is interested though.
Which state are you locate in? They did the Pete Seeger special on Oregon Public Broadcasting last week.
I was delighted that they were willing to mention that Pete Seeger was a membrer of the American Communist Party. Something everyone of us should consider if we are really interested in community.
Today the Revolutionary Communist Party is kind of a joke in America.
http://rwor.org/
However, it is perhaps the nucleus of a good idea. Social Justice is not something that either the Democratic Party or the Fascist Party are promoting in America today. We do need some better choices if, after all, we dare to call ourselves a democracy or progressives, or socialist Christians…
For more on electric tractors

It blows every day here for weeks in the winter. Then it stops, but not for long. By the time the winds stop in late April, it is light all the time. Then, in early September, when it starts getting dark, it starts blowing again.
Not taking advantage of wind blowing sucks. The Dutch built an empire in the mid-1500s through being the most clever users of wind power.
Which companies are interested in building wind factories or wind parks in Ohio? Is the state willing to offer financial help to build there?
Haven’t given up on Capitalism quite yet, Ray.
Oh my.
Zoltek makes carbon fiber blades for Vestas and an Indian wind company the other companies use fiberglass I believe which is cheaper but not as strong.
Still it depends who gets the contracts Zoltek can make money only if quality rather than cost is the criteria.
do you think we could find a different way to organize it though? instead of primarily through corporations which are in general not just anti-democratic, but totalitarian power structures?
oh, and can we please have a way to factor in the costs of what are now externalities (esp. the environment and cultural destruction).?
for when you’re put in charge, of course. ;-)
Nor have I, I do agree with a lot of what Marx had to say, but, I’m a progressive and a populist…
Dutch owned LM Glasfiber will open a what I believe will be a rotor manufacturing plant in Little Rock next year. The MS and AR river allow shipping of large components up the river as far as LR. OK and Texas will probably be the largest market for them.
How much of Alaska’s settlements are on the coast? The temperature difference between ocean and land usually means that some wind is blowing off the coasts almost all the time.
My congress critter sent mer a letter stating her opposition to immunity for the telcos
From Anna Eshoo:
I oppose retroactive immunity for telecommunications carriers because I think it would be grossly irresponsible for Congress to grant blanket immunity for companies without even knowing whether their conduct was legal or not. Promote a coastal congress critter coalition and a congressional cuacus to promote that and make her the leader. Lois Capps is just south of you and would probaly be happy to participate.
Who is north of you? The whole coastal congress reps should join in a Pacific Coalition for Constitution and support to end the war. No?

I am calling any moron who holds a UNION card and voted for Ronald Reagan a dimwit. Ronald Reagan clearly intended to, and did destroy uesful unions. I am calling any American who voted for Hillary Clinton after losing their job at thousands of small family-owned businesses across the Midwest in the past 15 years a complete idiot. I am calling any American who has lost a family member by death or dismemberment since March, 2003 a complete idiot for voting for a fraud who will continue to perpetrate the imperialist nightmare that is destroying our nation for the sake of a tiny elite who are getting rich off war. The Clintons prosper in almost equal measure to the Bushes. Both families are American Aristocracy and if we had a decent and fully cleansing Revolution as the French did in 1789 neither family would survive and their ill-gotten fortunes would become the funds used to pay for the welfare of the people they have harmed to get where they are.

I high percentage of Alaska’s population lives on or near the coasts. Alaska has more coastline than the rest of the USA. Where we live, we’re in a zone between a river valley that goes into the interior of the state, and the upper end of Cook Inlet. Whenever there’s barometric pressure differential between the coast and interior we get wind. I’ve seen two new windmills within ten miles in the past month. If there were income and property tax incentives that are higher, we’d see a lot more windmills and summer solar.
OK, think about this. If you sit down to a poker game with strangers and if atfer two hands you can’t identify who the sucker is… it’s you.
“Looks like a winner” is exactly the lines the charlatans want you to say. Nanosolar is being set up to fleece the maximum number of dimwits in America. The day that stock goes public, I’m going short. It will take about 18 months, but everyone who takes an initial look-see at the stock and dips into the water and “invests” is about to become part of a flock that is being fleeced.
Wall Street is an unkind street. Not likely to help those who aren’t total cynics.
Gird you loins if you intend to enter the snakepit of speculation. You better hope to Hell you know what you are doing…
Otherwise, you’re just the angle. As in: “If you ain’t woikin’ an angle, you are the angle.”
something else for when i win the lottery.
No specifics of that sort were discussed. But we offer tax abatements for just about any company willing to locate here, so I would think the answer is yes on state help.
The congressman was trying to have sort of a town hall by phone, across a rural district. He was talking about wind-generated power and, if we could have the wind generators here, why couldn’t we build the parts that make them up?
backups are done … i’m off… nite all.
yup :)
You don’t rally the people for making mistakes everyone makes mistakes except for Saints and Liars (well the Liars never admitt to making any).
You use the consequences of the mistaken policies of the Right to rally the people to a more equitable cause or New Deal.
You never saw FDR blame regular people for the Great Depression.
I looked into Vestas in 2002 and thought then that they were old news. You got something new we should consider about that stock? The company will obviously prosper going forward, but I doubt a speculator will.
This has been the sad fate of those who bought Exxon stock after George Bush achieved the monarchy. Exxon prospered. Lee Raymond became fabulously rich. But the stockholders were left holding an empty bag.
Real money is only made rarely by speculators. I’m looking for that money. I’m not looking to be as criminal as George Bush or Lee Raymond or their dead pal Enron’s Ken Lay. These men are all criminals, and I’d rather not get rich the way they chose to do it.
Where does Alaska gets its power from now Burning oil?
If Alaska were to go green that would mean more oil to sell. Oil sales outside Alaska go into that state oil fund that pays people in Alaska right.
Green Power then means more money in the fund and higher payments for every Alaskan. I think we just found a winning Democratic Green Campaign issue for the state.
Careful, Dood, ya need to use codewords like eggplant or squash…! ;-)
Night all.. be nice to each other :>)
Aloha, nahant!
The U.S. Navy fully understands its complete vulnerability to attack. Any Russian jet carrying a compelement of Sunburn missiles can take out any U.S. bazillion dollar carrier at any time.
This is the little secret that neither George Bush nor Vlad Putin want you to understand. Bush, so that he can continue to steal your money to enrich his friends and Vlad so that he can still surprise the dimwits we call laughingly call “Americans”.
oil, natural gas and coal. coal is absurdly abundant here, but it is fairly dirty, even as coal goes. The local area had abundant natural gas for the past 40 years or so, but it is rapidly being depleted. we live along the largest volcanic range in the world, and geothermal sites are only fifteen miles beyond where there’s already a big natural gas distribution plant fifty miles from here. big oil companies have deterred politicians from seeking to develop altenative energy resources, as the more dependant the Alaska polulation is on big oil, the more compliant we are when they threaten us.
Speaking of FDR…
This is the first time I’ve heard this congressman say that we need a cradle-to-grave health care system.
Blew me away.
Do you have any links on this incursion? This is actually interesting.
The Big Isle has a few large wind farms, Geothermal plants and is proposing a trash to power incinerator, but, still, 85% of our power is from burning oil…!
What is new is Gas in West Seattle at $3.50 a gallon today the price has been rising for 2 weeks straight.
A well set up established green company unlike a start up company can add shifts to already existing factories which the start ups don’t have to take advantage of the high price of oil now.
To take advantage of expected higher pollution control standards on coal plants if a Dem wins.
FDL had an article recently about WallStreet pulling the Financing on hundreds of new coal plants in the works in expectation of a Dem win.
Still we need power and I’m betting its going to be green and maybe Nuclear.
Nuclear Fission that is Bush pulled us out of the international Fusion research project like a moron.
Fission is a mistake people in a bad housing market do not want to be near a Nuke plant. Green power I think could be a selling point.
What totally blew the Pentagon Brass’s mind was when the Chinese Sub popped up during last year’s Rim-Pac exercises…! ;-)
War…misery…and huge public debt and private profit…not good for most.
If it is for oil that war is waged then alternative will help. Never elect a profit driven party.
Morality has to be a overarching value to produce political will to value all our citizens.
Never forget to lobby to stop the war, see you all letting that slip away.
Beyond funding and bonding agencies expecting a Dem victory as a problem for financing new coal plants, I think they realize that both Dems and GOP elected on local levels are going to be greener, and that utility boards across the USA are under increasing pressure from their consumers to seek rational non-coal altenatives. By rational, I don’t mean nuclear.
Big Isle ? Hawaii? You import oil across how many miles of ocean at God knows the cost when you have plenty of Geothermal power for free? Solar Power coastal wind Power just who is your power company? And how long have they been in big oil’s pocket?
As Ike warned us in his ‘Farewell’; “…beware of the Military-Industrial Complex!” Would’ve been nice if we’d heeded him back then…! 8-(
As long as HECO has been in business, early 1900’s…!
Alaska and Hawaii both have access to geothermal power and coastal wind power I think Dems in both states can use Green Power is free power to their advantage.
Well that and no more blood for oil.
We have to demonize the power companies. I thought oil burning plants went extinct in America in the 80’s. We can point out that every oil plant burns oil that could be gas for a voters car the less demand for oil the less cost the cheaper then the gas.
We can win this election by saying going green means cheaper gas.
Well, I shall bid another fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
Coal powered is just as vile… ‘Nite!
Nite CT
What we’re seeing up here in 2008 in the US Congress races is candidates scrambling to talk coherently on green power and other renewable resources. Most of the Dems are better, but some of them rely heavily on oil and mining money for their campaigns. On the left, Alaska labor have scads of contracts with big oil and mines, so even the unions aren’t excited about every third person’s house having windmills and solar arrays. The tugs and barges that bring oil to Native villages have crews with union contracts. If the Native villages had wind, solar, hydro or tidal poiwer that the village owned, these union workers would be out of a gig.
Ms. ET and I were talking about this over dinner tonight. It isn’t lack of imagination, lack of products that can reduce climate change problems, lack of will of common people for this to happen. It is lack of imagination at most levels of existing infrastructure about how to effectively implement the massive changes needed. Here and around the world.
There is nothing sillier, weirder and downright pathetic than seeing global climate change denier Don Young trying to talk green. But his advisors are telling him he has to.
14 February 2008—The 2004 report “Burning Plasma: Bringing a Star to Earth,” from the U.S. National Research Council, sold Washington on the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), a massive R&D project that proponents predict will be the breakthrough project for fusion energy. In its fiscal 2008 budget, however, Congress drove the United States’ role in ITER right into the ground, slashing US $160 million promised for this year to $10.7 million. U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) officials are expected to provide an update on how the United States plans to work around the budget shortfall at a meeting of the agency’s Fusion Energy Sciences Advisory Committee next Tuesday. But the United States’ paltry participation has some wondering if fusion research, considered since the 1960s one of the great long shots for a sustainable and relatively clean energy supply, has run out of time.
http://www.spectrum.ieee.org/feb08/5980
How can Darth claim to be pro nuclear if he won’t support Fusion? Does he like radioactive waste?
Green Union jobs! it will take decades to build Alaskan GeoThermal, Wind and Solar power even after that you have to run the plants adjust the grid for power demand repair plants damaged by the weather etc. It will take even longer to replace oil for cars never mind all the chemical uses. Like it or not even after all of America goes green China, India and Africa will still need oil 100 yrs from now.
Plus the greener the world gets the better Alaskan fishing should get!
sadly true, but we need to ramp all of this up several notches.
True but it is cheaper. How can any power utility CEO justify burning oil today at these prices?
Thats what we are doing now providing regular Dems talking points to argue with the global warming deniers. We are showing the Dem candidates that monitor us to see what their base is thinking that this issue is important to us.
May I, Mr. Invisible, address the de-mployment issue you bring.
The timber industry lost jobs, towns closed down without a wimper. We even lost our homes.
Knowing this Unions could bargain to shift employment to the sustainable energy industry that is growing inevitably. Maybe union leaders are so in bed with big oil they are unwilling to adjust. That makes them part of the problem would their membership not want to be part of a cleaner safer solutions?
ET your argument is lazy in that it assumes they are to lazy to adjust. By presenting this as an opportunity to get in at the bottom green becomes a labor preference. That is how you win the vote. I believe that winning politicians take a negative and turn it around. The carbon energy problem is one of those and wind has driven sails forever. Now cargo ships are adding sails to reduce carbon footprint.
The best way to win a war with the oil nations is to make oil valueless.
The best way to win a war with the oil nations is to make oil valueless.
The best way to win a war with the oil nations is to make oil valueless.
Damm Straight economic warfare we can grind all the Saudi Oil Sheiks into poverty for supporting Ossama and then raising the price of oil. And we can do it by withdrawing or troops and spending the war money on going green.
High paying Union jobs for are troops as we down size the army.
We can hurt Ossama more by going green than Bush has managed to do in 7 yrs? of war!
Competition for market will drive emerging economies like China to seeks cheaper cleaner power. It will not take 100 years to convert and the oxygen/temperature dependent organisms do not have more than a few decades according to climatologist. It is not a matter of profit it is a case species survival of which we are one.
There is one big wild card in this…the weapons industry which and promotes wars. How is big weapons shut down? No Fear?
bigbrother – are you not seeing your comments the first time they are posted?
I see identical copies of your last post…
Perhaps a hard refresh will solve it.
The military industrial complex needs to be encouraged to shift its money to making green energy rather than bombs. Given that Bush gave them everything they wanted and we are still losing in Iraq I don’t think they can claim they can win us any wars.
But Government money will be flowing to green companies if they want to jump on. Either they jump on now and save the national power grid and the profits of being able to charge for power.
Or individuals will keep going green by themselves, going off the grid and selling power back to the big power companies.
Will they hop on board or will they go the way of the American car companies who are losing market share to the more fuel efficient cars of Japan? I kind of hope for the later but I realize that the transition to a green country will go faster if they get involved.
Many apologies I made a mispell and repeated with a corr3st one.
Fear is over rated if we have another terror attack the Left will blame Bush for fighting in Iraq when Ossama is in Pakistan. The GOP can only win if they use a terror attack to declare martial law.
But the risk to the GOP if there is another terror attack is high after all 9/11 killed the stockmarket for months which is not something you want to do before an election.
Bill O’Reily and Fox News the GOP’s base is older people who’s retirement money is invested in the market. Many retirees get money every month from their retirement funds but if the market goes down for months then those payments will get smaller.
Heck we could start peeling off lots of 30%ers then.
It is no problem at all.
Fixed.
I like this song! Sweet! Several days ago, I saw a report saying Kate Nash wins Best British Female award at the Brits:
http://www.nme.com/news/brit-awards-2008/34537 , that’s wonderful! I always know Kate’s talent. Has anyone enjoyed her album “Made of Bricks”? I am enjoying it. Last week I just got it with a nice price here: http://dealstudio.com/searchde…..038;ru=279 , I think the music of it is brilliant! You can try it, I think!
That will only happen after we see Florida and other coastal areas go under water. But until then people will keep dragging their feet. Bush by losing the war in Iraq and pushing gas prices so high is doing more to help us go green than even Al Gore.
Bush has made green energy a pocketbook issue for every American.
Military bases are purported by NRC to be safest sites and easy approval for more Nuke plants. France went Nuke.
Not a happy approach to clean energy as waste offsets carbonless footprint of nuclear…but 100,000 year half life cycles has major storage problem too.
If there is a safe reuse for this by product it may be part of the energy solution but there is a limited supply of uranium to consider before commiting to that road.
In any case lower energy cost will make ME war less interesting and with Sauds holding cheap dollars they may decide war is not in best interests of Muslims. A world wide movement against jihad could be in the offing with cheap energy.
If US backs off of ME interference and destabilization policy. the Russians and the Iranians might ease off as well. Then we could pull the 5th fleet out of harms way, refresh our battle weary forces, strengthen our infrastrucure and National Guard at home.
Making war will certainly bankrupt us. making energy cheaper and more plentiful won’t help the oil companies unless they invest. No need to spoil ANWAR and the perma frost of Alaska. Cheap energy may win the war by default and we can again be at peace and return to moral leadership in the family of nations.
I like the way you think, Good Night
And likewise I am sure. Good night TCU.
Did anyone know that Attaturk has a post upstairs?
