In his acceptance/victory speech last night, John McCain made clear his foreign policy would be based on a world view that assumes a global war with radical Islam is the great calling of our time. He essentially endorsed George Bush’s good versus evil mentality and the Administration’s imperial notions of America’s role in subduing this evil throughout the world.
He did not mention, however, that Secretary of State Rice was in the Middle East and Admiral Mullen was in Pakistan, both trying to obscure the embarrassing fact that every single application of the Bush Administration’s foreign policy against Islam has collapsed in total chaos, leaving America’s strategic interests in shambles.
McCain tried both to evade responsibility for the strategic blunder of invading Iraq — he simply asserted there is no value in "relitigating" past decisions — and in the very next sentence to take credit for deposing Saddam Hussein.
America is at war in two countries, and involved in a long and difficult fight with violent extremists who despise us, our values and modernity itself. It is of little use to Americans for their candidates to avoid the many complex challenges of these struggles by re-litigating decisions of the past. I will defend the decision to destroy Saddam Hussein’s regime as I criticized the failed tactics that were employed for too long to establish the conditions that will allow us to leave that country with our country’s interests secure and our honor intact.
It is a neat trick to claim credit for deposing an unpopular dictator while denying all responsibility for opening the Pandora’s Box of catastrophic consequences that flowed from removing a non-sectarian regime and replacing it with the murderous clerics and chaos that filled the governance vacuum we created.
McCain was defiant on Iraq, laying out a set of preconditions for withdrawing so impossible that even George Bush has been reluctant to make them so explicit.
But Americans know that the next President doesn’t get to re-make that decision. We are in Iraq and our most vital security interests are clearly involved there. The next President must explain how he or she intends to bring that war to the swiftest possible conclusion without exacerbating a sectarian conflict that could quickly descend into genocide; destabilizing the entire Middle East; enabling our adversaries in the region to extend their influence and undermine our security there; and emboldening terrorists to attack us elsewhere with weapons we dare not allow them to possess.
McCain did not explain, because his supporters would never think to ask, how his embrace of Bush’s war policies had led us inexorably into the quagmire he was describing and what that says about his own judgment. It is doubtful the adoring media will ask these questions either.
The Republicans now have their man — they didn’t really want him, and some of them still hate him — but he fits their requirements perfectly. McCain satisfies the right wing’s emotional needs to have a perpetual enemy — officially replacing communists with radical Islamists — providing a set of undifferentiated, dark-skinned and dehumanized foreign devils against whom perpetual war is the only acceptable policy, and about whom no further thought is required. The millions of innocents killed, maimed, or made homeless will remain invisible, and after all, it was in the cause of freedom and the American way.
By focusing on world war while extending Bush’s tax cuts, McCain would ensure his supporters never make the connection with their own economic insecurity, and never directly pay for the folly of the worst strategic blunder in America’s history. And he will continue an occupation that, through it’s self-interested excuses for repression, perpetuates its own justification. McCain will thus keep America fighting in Iraq forever, relieving the right wing’s anxiety about losing Vietnam all over again.
It is the unfortunate task of the Republican primaries to select a nominee acceptable to the most insecure and delusional segment of the American political spectrum, and that mission is accomplished. By sheer accident – and the serendipitous incompetence and duplicity of his rivals — John McCain is the ideal candidate for that pitiful group, all that’s left of a once proud Grand Old Party. They will follow this broken but unbowed warrior without question, firmly convinced not only of the national security imperative but that their personal salvation depends on it. Pastor Hagee knows his man.
This morning, the presumptive nominee will dutifully trudge to the White House to receive the Emperor’s blessing. I couldn’t help but think that Darth would say, "The circle is now complete." But beware the New Hope and Princess Leia. tbogg captures the spirit.

Moring Scarecrow
Something like being kissed by a cobra.
PS. Note to McBus I am not your fuc**ng friend.
I am so sad today. My guess is that the die bolt people already have the machines programed for someone controlled by whoever is really in charge.
morning pups
I am now officially tired of the primary. With all due respect to the states that have yet to vote, I’m ready for the main event with McCain.
Based on the last thread, it may be time for the owner’s of the Lake to make another call for cessation of poo flinging – both at candidates and each other. Just saying……..
It seems to me that getting our troops out of Iraq would be easy. Why? Well, the Turks just removed their troops out of the Kurdish region of Iraq and no one knew they left until after they were gone. I have a feeling the Iraqis would step aside and wave bub-bye to us.
According to CNN’s vote tally of sthe 4 states, 2.95 million more Democrats voted yesterday than Gopers. That, for me, is the best news of the day.
Obama/Dean 08
“Sea Change”
Poo flinging is exactly what M.C. Rove wants. A divided Dem party gives McCain a shot at the White House. If you fling poo, you play in to Rove’s hands.
Waccamaw, there was no poo poo flinging on the last thread. I expressed my opinion and RayDuray misunderstood what I was trying to say. Please don’t tell me that FDL is going to become like other blogs where only one opinion can be expressed. That would suck.
Now we are talking!!! That is great information…if only we had a Democratic candidate….oh well can’t have everything I guess.
KayinMAine
Now that would be news!
Let’s start a campaign to pressure Timmeh to ask McCain if he would pardon Bush if elected. It would be so much fun to watch St. John struggle with that question.
meanwhile, that drunk Chris Hitchens is now on MSNBC bashing Hillary…
See my http://firedoglake.com/2008/03…..nt-1314952 last thread, a response to rayduray. Apparently his disinformation and propaganda rule this blog :-(
It should be quite interesting. All the “temporary” Democrats, many of which who caucused quite proudly and unrepentantly with me last night, will return to their true love, the GOP. They have gamed the system & perverted the will of our Primary voters. This in an attempt to put their preferred candidate into play, who they percieve as an easier target in the general. I might add they were openly boastful of that fact.
Whether their coordinated effort made a difference, I cannot say, but it certainly leaves a bad taste in one’s mouth.
nor did he explain that our very presence creates the same adversity we need to vanquish before we leave
this is like saying you are going to pour water on that grass until the grass is dry
Or issue hip waders at the door, possibly. Remember, please, my candidate is teh totally awesome and your candidate is teh awful suck.
Arnie – It is a long standing rule at FDL that directly insulting another commenter is not permitted.
Liberals telling other liberals they can’t question the motive of a Democratic candidate is also playing in the hands of Rove. Hillary’s audience stealing the “YES WE CAN” motto of Baracks could also cause division especially if they continue to chant it from now on.
Rove is loving it because no one is questioning McCain’s motive on a daily, hour to hour, basis. In fact, while we’re all disputing each other, Rove is planning on pulling a rabid rabbit out of his hat. McCain will be set aside and Newt Gingrich, Jeb Bush or some other Reagan Crazy will appear out of nowhere and we’ll be so divided amongst ourselves that we won’t have the energy to fight it.
these weren’t “tax cuts”
they were redistribution of middle class assets, they were tax give aways provided at the expense of me and you and our children
-nor can we call them tax increases when we re claim those assets
we will be re aquiring assets that were taking from us, we will not be raising taxes we will be calling the bill that is long past due
Morning pups. Woke up here in Quebec horrible snow and ice storm. Senator McCain is a piece of work, but her perfectly represents the fearful edge of thuglicanism. My guess is that he will nevertheless retain the moderate end of his party and that the hydra will survive another election cycle. I’m disappointed by last night’s results on our side. I thought the Big O would take TX. I fear McCain can take Hillary in the general. Independents who would otherwise be attracted to Obama will vote Rethug.
That’s merrely a mirage. It’s meaningless that more people are voting in the primary. What counts is Nov. and who counts those votes. The American people have proven themselves to be susceptible of the most blatant propaganda machine the world has known since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The Republican Party has America in their crosshairs. Besides, to paraphrase Stalin, “it doesn’t matter who votes but who counts the votes”, or something to that effect.
Hitchens is talking about the Bradley effect in TX and OH…and also that Hillary will not be afraid to run as George Wallace in order to win this thing…
We have lost the media. Glenn Beck, on CNN Headline News, talking to John Hagee:
http://thinkprogress.org/2008/…..ntichrist/
In 2006, Beck had said of Senator Clinton:
I feel if we don’t coordinate an attack on the media, Senator McCain will be the next President.
In light of this information it should be no surprise.
From Pew research
Well it looks as if going negative works on folks no matter how inaccurate or misleading the info. Low information voters = headache
For seven years, I’ve swiftly turned off the radio to avoid the noxious, arrogant voice of Bush. When the radio came on this morning, I found myself doing the same with Hillary’s voice. It is a physical antipathy. I will vote for her, if she is the party’s nominee. But I dread another four years of muting the president, just because the voice gives me a physical shudder.
I typically express several contradictory opinions in the same post. But I’m special and most are too polite to mention it.
Good morning, everyone. The Democratic primary situation is a mess, no?
so the primary rages on
the situation in south america worries me
That’s because we don’t believe in Obama’s statement that government is going to require us to be our Brother’s Keeper. Government taking our hard earned money by force to turn over to your brother and their looting takers is not exactly a success formula. We want to win the War in Iraq and the War Against Terror which Sen. Clinton at least made a part of HER victory speech last night.
McCain’s voice is hardly a symphony either… [shudder]
Given the latest flap about plagiarism coming from the White House, McCain ought to be very careful about his Iraq-related speeches. It seems to me that much of what he says was said by Republicans during the 1960s, not about Iraq but Vietnam.
I certainly hope he isn’t lifting speeches from someone.
And perhaps McCain is still fighting his old war. “We could have won Vietnam, if we had just stayed the course and kept on fighting — and I’m not going to make that same mistake in Iraq.”
Guess it just depends on what your definition of the word is. *g* The Lake is made of many strong personalities and strong opinions; that’s a given. I’ve been around here quite some time now and it’s never been a place where differences in those opinions were discouraged. Maybe something just grated on my ear this morning that really wasn’t there.
Is now the time to really start working on re-voting Florida and Michigan? It could come down to this.
Hillary Clinton, the answer to Republican prayers.
The Clinton Party destroyed the Democrats in the ’90s.
They’re doin’ it again.
Sort of goes without saying that I can’t listen to him either. I will read what they say, but that is as far as I can go.
As someone (I forget who — senior moment) said in a prior thread Bill Clinton didn’t sew up his delegate count until June. Just because it feels like the Bataan death march now doesn’t mean it’s unusual…
Good morning, tired fire pups!
Clinton 25 Texas Primary Delegates
Obama 14 Texas Primary Delegates
I thought the split would be closer? Has somebody already covered this?
Indeed the information is getting worse
Bushco wants the Venezuelan oil and does not like the Latin speaking commie Chavez. He will no doubt send in Blackwater to boost the right wing government in columbia prior to starting a war with Venezuela.
We need to point out to McCain that the primary means of correcting past blunders in this country is through elections, by throwing out the culprits and their supporters.
“America is at war in two countries, and involved in a long and difficult fight with violent extremists who despise us, our values and modernity itself.”
Why do we do this?
Because we think we are the greatest fucking people on earth? Yes.
Because we love to exaggerate our importance? Yes.
Because we love going to extremes? Yes.
Because we don’t believe in an eye for an eye, we believe in an entire fucking torso and all your limbs for an eye? Yes.
Because we don’t like thinking things through? Yes.
I do not want the very worst characteristics of the American character enshrined in our President.
No more Bush family values. No to John McCain.
You can war against a religion, especially one which is spread throughout the world.
Even is there are radicals within any religion, you don’t wage a war, but have to root out the trouble makers.
When you war on the entire nation you alienate more than you win the hearts and minds of the moderates. We continually make this mistake and we only radicalize marginal people who break any support our foreign policy might have had. We are not making friends by busting in with guns blazing.
Do you have a link for those numbers? There are about 120 or so delegates awarded for the TX primary. I think it’s going to take a while to get final numbers.
IMHO, the Gopers are so far gone we could almost run Al Sharpton and still win in a landslide.
You left out this part:
Yet to be Decided: 97 Texas Primary Delegates and 67 Texas Caucus delegates
(And then there’s the 12 superdelegates, but let’s just wait on that part, OK?)
Bay Buchanan on MSNBC: “McCain has seen more wars than any other candidates. ” Ha. And I’m sure he would like t see more wars…
Th real reason we go to war is that we have this huge war making apparatus which needs something to do.
And we have corporate or “strategic interests” which we believe can be secured at gunpoint.
CNN numbers
Thank you so much, very smart people here at the lake!
On the lighter side, via Mr. Sunshine…
Imus smacks down “gotcha Timmeh” this morning.
Can you name the head of Japan? The head of Kosovo?
The Secretary of Agriculture?
The Secretary of Education–you just had her on your show a couple weeks ago.
You made your point, Don.
Bleeped, Imus: it’s all bullshit.
Ay-yep.
I appreciate that. I’m still just miffed that I live in one of the two states that won’t have a say in this important decision. I can’t get past the role the Rethugs played in moving our primary date. It wasn’t the Dems’ fault here, and yet every Dem in the state is disenfranchised. Again.
Thankfully, last year Howard Dean launched the “Vote Integrity Project” to address the issue of vote counting at the local level.
Someone told me yesterday that Bill Clinton appeared on Limpballz show with a one-on-one interview. So, I put on the Haz-mat suit and ventured to Lush’s site, and sho’ nuff! Bill did an interview with the fill-in host, and I could only make it through about a minute of the interview so got to hear Bill say the “3AM” ad is actually very positive and not fear mongering at all.
Plus, there’s a large box with Hillary’s campaign logo that says “Vote for Hillary” and keep the primaries going as long as possible. Almost surreal to see and hear them there. But David Shuster…no way!
An official Hillary staffer last Fall said they may work with Drudge when needed, and this week we had the Obama in garb photo sucking up headlines. The Canada/NAFTA sourcing is highly suspect as well as the timing. Hillary goes on 60 Minutes and gives a completely RIDICULOUS answer about whether Obama is a Muslim…as far as she knows (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). So apparently Hillary voters in TX and OH approves these actions and want more fear mongering ads.
In the upcoming states, I hope potential Hillary voters think long and hard about this stuff. What’s it gonna take to make people realize that the Clintons and the DLC are not on our side? I thought the 90’s were enough proof. I thought this last year of Dem “leadership” was enough proof. Perhaps the slash and burn actions of Team Clinton will help people realize this, finally.
If the votes are counted in Texas why have the delegates not awarded? (Primary delegates, not caucus delegates)
Someone here (earlofhuffington?) called this Battered Party Syndrome. I think that really sums up what’s happening, where Dem voters keep going back to the same people thinking somehow it’ll be different this time around. Sad, really.
I was amused when the WH got all bent out of shape when China increased “defense” spending to $60bill. China, with more borders to protect than the US, with a population 4 times ours will increase it’s defense spending to less than 10% of of ours and the freakin WH says they are spending too much and are a great threat.
We spend more damn money on useless, fanciful, military toys making billions of dollars for the military machine manufacturers, money that could be better spent on infrastructure, education, health or in fact pizza rather than on gadgets designed for killing.
Today’s lunch menu at the White House:
Stir-fried Constitution shreds with cream of fourth amendment sauce.
Fear-roasted vegetable crescents.
Brown cake with oil sauce.
And for dessert, kiss-up cupcakes.
They get awarded in a rather complicated fashion, broken out by TX state senate districts. When a county reports their vote totals, that’s just what they are — undifferentiated totals. Some counties are divided into two or more state senate districts, so until someone (the party secretary? the media?) can sift through the precinct-by-precinct numbers, we won’t know the delegate counts.
And then there’s the caucus numbers. From what they were saying last night, it could be next Tuesday before we know those results officially.
OK! What flavor of koolaid will John “Ronald” McBush partake of as he kneels before his Living Gawd today? Take a wild ass guess!
Margin of victory also matters — if you win 51/49, you don’t get as many delegates as you do if you win 68/32.
Similarly, there’s a weighting system where some areas get to award more delegates based on the democratic turnout in earlier elections.
All in all, this is an extra-credit word problem for an algebra teacher’s math class.
Would that be the Sunshine State?
What’s a meal in DeeCee without cocktails weenies!
Appetizer: Pigs in a Blanket.
don’t forget yellow cake from Africa!
Yes. We should be Code Red right now. The Florida Legislature convened yesterday.
No dems are seriously taking on the false notion of national security being vested in a huge military.
If our nation were not seen as “threatening” to any group or nation, why would have have to “defend” it?
If you look at a “state” for example, they don’t have a military defense apparatus because no other states are a threat to them. Why do we see the world in terms of “threats”?
What ARE the threats and if they exist (which I say they don’t) what is the cause of these threats? If there is a group of nation which seems to to be a threat, say Iran for example, how are they a threat to this country? What could they possibly want from the USA except to be left alone or possibly economic trade. They don’t want our resources, our labor, our land. What exactly would Iran want with the USA?
When you examine the rest of the world, there ARE NO FRIGGEN THREATS to the USA.
We have a lifestyle and an economy which IS ADDICTED to things off shore. We call them our strategic interests. We need to disabuse ourselves of the notion of “strategic interests” off shore. These are nothing more than oil or other resources.
When you punch holes in the strategic interest national security myth, the vast MIC has no mission and can be put out of business. It is a drain to the economy… a healthy one, while addicting americans to MIC jobs and MIC memes like “patriotism” and “predominance” and invincability.
I am sick and tired of this NATIONAL SECURITY nonsense. This whole mindset is toxic.
I don’t think that the rethugs will have any problem with holding contradictory views of any situation, e.g. we must stay in Iraq forever, but we need to get out as quickly as possible. I’m sure that you can come up with many of your own. Therefore, st. mccain can say anything he wants to say and try to appeal to everyone without fear of MSM actually pointing out his rediculous positions on anything.
Terry McAuliffe, the head of Hillary’s fundraising and a mega millionaire himself, had a 15 State Strategy when he was head of the DNC for many years before Howard took over. Terry actually closed up offices in many smaller states and poured all the resources into approx 15 of the “big” states. The DemocratIC Party almost disintegrated into nothing under Terry’s watch despite having plenty of money.
Now for the most part, the states that Hillary is winning big are the ones where McAuliffe built powerful machines. Perhaps this is why Hillary is winning these states and losing most every other state? I thought this after Super Tues and seems to hold true after yesterday since OH was one of Terry’s projects.
I just realized tbogg already captured the Star Wars fantasy. I may be fired for plagiarism.
The level craziness that is our election system in this country is incredible. We have just one voting day, and that on a midweek day, instead of either a two day weekend voting period or a national voting day holiday. Our mechanical voting systems are of dubious quality in a country that prides itself on technological ingenuity with scanners and touch screens supposedly rigged by one party or another and the primary season is a debacle. Voters in two states are disenfranchised, voters in most states don’t get to vote for their candidate because the system is rigged to weed out the anti-corporate people early, and with the assistance and connivence of MSM. And in Texas they have, it seems, the amazingly cumbersome and surely not fair two-step voting and revoting system. Nuts, its nuts I tell you.
Whelchers Grope Juice
I don’t want Hillary, but I will vote for her vs. mccain. I really don’t think either Hillary or Barack are particularly progressive or liberal. I am more than a little disgusted with the continual outright attack ads or inuendo that her campaign is doing. I didn’t realize that she would rather have mccain than Obama as President.
But were they all Democrats? Have we been skewed (you know what spellcheck would do with that one!)?
The DOD just awarded a multi hundred billion dollar contract for tankers for refueling planes in flight.
What planes are we refueling? How many of them? Basically small one man super expensive fighter jets. Why do we need fighter jets? What is their mission? What nations are we going to do “dog fights” in the air?
The whole scenario is total madness and nonsense. This is because our military has evolved to fight wars which we don’t fight, won’t have to fight.
And then there are the nukes and the missiles? Are we really going to drop nukes on civilian targets? Are there military target that could even merit a nuke strike? WFT is going on?
We are being bled dry by the friggin military which is completely out of control.
Why do we need carrier groups? Why do we need nuclear submarines patrolling the world’s oceans? WTF? These things costs billions and billions?
The military is destroying America in every possible way. And don’t get me started on how they are screwing up the environment.
The economy is in freefall and McCain says he doesn’t understand economics. To counter that, maybe he could quickly get one of those Wizard of Oz style MBA degrees from Harvard like Bush has.
For that belligerent bastard gropes of wrath
Thanks Jim!
After last night I needed a good laugh.
Scarecrow, I forgot to mention that I love the title of the post. It reminded me of that old proverb about prayer: “Be careful what you pray for — you just might get it.”
You are absolutely correct! There is absolutely no justification for it, but the American love for we are biggest bad-ass on the block will sustain it forever. It will be the death of this Nation, 1 Billion aircraft!
From Howie Kurtz’s Media Notes:
“All the cable networks declared at 9 o’clock that McCain had gone over the top.”
I’ve been saying that McCain has gone over the top for years. Also around the bend, and he’s even been thrown under the bus a time or two.
But definitely over the top. That’s St. John.
Best we thin the DINO herd in the Congress to hold the next Prez accountable…
link (sorry for the omission)
Howie Klein has some very good news on that front (posted last night):
The economy is in freefall because the wealthy are partying heartily and trashing the nation to get their jollies and their booty.
Can someone explain to me why a mortgage broker is paid 20k, 30k, 40k to close a loan? Why should a real estate broker be paid 20k, 30k, 40K to sell a home?
Those at the top don’t get paid for work, they just receive enormous fees the effect of which is to suck it all to the top, suck the oxygen out of the economy.
A broker getting an obscene fees is not free market capitalism. It is greed. It is not based on entrepreneurial brilliance or creativity or innovation.
Our system is totally unjust and exploitive. Those who work the hardest get the least, and those who work the least get the most.
looks like jean is gonna be looking for a new job
pitty
What is this “win” you speak of? Please define it. Be specific. No one else has been able to. I’m curious…
the most insecure and delusional segment of the American political spectrum
That wouldn’t be the people that Hillary scared into voting for her too would it?
We need politicians to take the curtain off this oz. We need to introduce this false narrative into the dialog.
We need to question the assumptions.
We have allowed false narratives to run the world.
This must stop.
I got my ass jumped on for saying that last night.
“Narratives” don’t run anything
you certainly have the cool aid point of view, also your opinion is burdoned with the facts, this, the greatest country on the planet became just that because of the success formula you apparently know nothing about;
we do not “take” to give to our brother in a society, we force those who steal from us to stop doing it
when they want to use our roads for their business they must pay for those roads
when they want to dump their crap in my kids air they have to pay to clean it up
when they want to use a workforce they have to make sure that family can put food on the table, educate their kids, and keep their entire family healthy
but according to you, forcing businesses to pay their own bill is “taking”
typical
I am still a little sleepy, from yesterday, does Vic Wulsin will be here today at 3:00pm eastern (noon Pacific)?
“That wouldn’t be the people that Hillary scared into voting for her too would it?”
Uh, yeah. I just heard on tv that 20% of Ohio voters said race played a role in their decision yesterday.
20 percent. Not at all surprised, but that doesn’t make it any less disgusting.
They result in policy decisions. The national security narrative results in the resources sent over to the MIC and the DOD sitting there war gaming and dreaming up new ways to fight the wars of the 21st century.
Yes, right here at FDL on a Blue America thread hosted by Howie. It should be quite the party, with Snoopy Happy Dances for everyone.
A ‘narrative’ is a construct created in a suitable medium (speech, writing, images) that describes a sequence of fictional or non-fictional events.
In the case of the national security narrative, it is a fictional one but it results in resources being spent and lives being destroyed.
god, i cant go through this for 6 more months.
just shoot me.
or better yet, please make me feel better. Tell me how having a long, drawn-out nomination battle helps our party.
you know, lie to me
I won’t vote for Clinton. In this case Nader becomes a viable protest vote. With Clinton’s vote on the war she has proven herself unworthy of being the nominee. I dare say that at least 90% on this and other liberal/progressive blogs knew based on the inforamtion that was available at the time that Bush’s arguments for invasion were bogus. If she couldn’t see through the propaganda she is part of the problem not the solution. Is America becoming a psuedo-monarchy with the families Bush & Clinton as the royal families?
yes, that’s nice, but consider that the republican race was not really contested.
back from my morning run, I needed that
what is scary is Faux News analyzing and making recommendations for our party candidates… bleh
I’m pleased that Obama hasn’t mentioned Hsu or Whitewater, says much about his character.
So you’re a big fan of Robert, Alito, Scalia, and Thomas, and want more like them on the Supreme Court?
No thanks.
Winning the elction is what matters. The bickering has to stop. The RepugbliCains will stop at nothing. Can’t you smell the odor of Martial law???
Wingnuttery, ratfuckery, fatassery
6 more months of
“______ is the only TRUE candidate”.
“I wont vote for ____________, if my super-fabulous candidate doesnt win.”
I have a hard time fighting the republicans every day when so many in my own damn party embasrass me like this.
Oh forgot to add, that his speech last night was fantastic.
It appears that fear mongering by Sen. Clinton won the day, along with her suggestion that even John McCain would be better suited to answer that nonsensical 3am phone call that Sen. Obama.
Even the HRC supporters here should be disappointed by that statement, as that was waaaayy out of bounds.
My point, they may inform but they don’t “run”. Sorry, as you may know I am annoyed by kabuki, meme, narrative and other, like, buzzwords. Nothin personal.
That will help.
To win means to push by force of arms Islamic Terrorism out of Iraq and Afghanistan. We are succeeding so we can take on the next mission of Iran and the Palestinian/Lebanese/Syrian terrorist.
What I don’t understand about Hill is that she needs to win the rest of the races in virtual landslides which seems very unlikely. In each state Obi is rising u. Ohio and TX are examples. He cut way into Hill’s lead, so this is going to continue till the “end”.
The “decision” will come down to the super delegates and if those follow the basic mood of the voters, they WILL give it to Obi.
That is the hand writing on the wall. Now is the time for Hill to read that and tack away and support the party.
While I don’t think Mc will win, the dialog needs to be focused on how dreadful the Rs are for the nation.
That’s it, be so afraid that you’ll vote for someone who would destroy the party to try to get her way because she is so goddamn qualified to lead
I will vote for either HRC or Obama in the general. One will make me slightly more happy than the other; doing so will be a privilege because I WILL NOT be voting for McBush.
I question that. Was she not expected to win by a lot more? Didn’t earlier polls have her way ahead. A case could be made that whatever she is doing is working against her, not for her.
John McCain is the answer to Republican prayers. He has a broad appeal among non-political junkies, based on his long-established reputation of bucking the powers-that-be. War-hero status. Perceived national-security expertise.
He is going to be extremely difficult to beat. Underestimate him at your peril.
Indeed, the answer to Republican prayers.
They wouldn’t be there if not confirmed by Democrats in the Senate.
My sense is that we have these underlying “beliefs” myths, narratives etc. which are accepted as “truism”.
These include notions about markets, about threats, strategic interests and so forth.
Most of these are FALSE ASSUMPTIONS and they need to be questioned. It’s not a matter of tweaking policy to make one of those narratives work. The underlying “narratives” , myths, beliefs and so forth are fundamentally wrong.
We need to have some serious discussion about these matters.
Obviously Hillary understands this dynamic, and that’s why she played coy in answering the “Muslim question” on 60 Minutes. Almost seems coordinated with the Drudge photo of Obama wearing the traditional garb, doesn’t it? Absolute joke! I can’t believe people don’t see through this crap.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHFREDHB-nQ
Raven, I really really respect you.
But thats just silly.
Last night, Rachel Maddow made a statement which I didn’t understand. She said all of the liberal blogs were trying to tie McCain closely with Bush, which is exactly what works for McCain. She said the liberal blogs are wrong and don’t understand it.
Does anyone know what her argument is?
Obama is winning the all important delegate count in Texas.
That’s what I’ve been hearing.
It’s silly season remember?
New Books for Free
I have 2 books that I mistakenly ordered 2 copies of (don’t ask). I’m giving them away, so anyone who would like one, email me at rosannecahn at alo dot com. They are:
Less Safe, Less Free by David Cole & Jules Lobel
Legacy of Ashes by Time Weiner
Yes, the polls did have her way ahead but he was gaining ground until the attack ads and the Canadian NAFTA issue came up.
Then she regained the lead in Ohio and Texas.
I think you’re spot on with that one. What’s silly is fellow Liberals still support these infiltrators called the DLC, of which the Clintons are leaders.
What more do they have to do to make more Dems realize this?
Obama is still ahead delegate count. It is a good time to get the ground game going in PA. I have people out there that have signed up to volunteer for Obama’s campaign and overall I’m encouraged ny the number of voters and folks getting involved in the process (no matter their candidate of choice)
Perfect description. LOL. and LOL some more.
Talk about a long, long, night. I discovered that Sweet Dreams Tea just makes you wake up to visit the bathroom… The results were disappointing and at this point IMO Obama needs to attach the experience issue head on.. Both candidates need to campaign against McCain and change the focus to the economy. The race is still Obama’s to loose but it’s important that he regain momentum. Can someone explain to me what poo throwing is? I assume that if we attack issues or ads that’s ok but what isn’t?
Sigh. Yes it is. Cant wait til its over
What a year to have two strong candidates.
Then again, maybe neither is perfect, but is performing so well becuase everyone is just completely fed up.
Clinton has proven herself unworthy of the Democratic nomination given her support for Bush’s invasion. At least 90% of those on liberal/progressive blogs knew from the information available at the time that Bush’s rationale for the use of force was bogus. That she couldn’t see through the propaganda or lacked the political courage to say NO speaks volumes. She like the Republicans is addicted to power.
Principles vs. pragmatism.
The same conflict that infects our leaders also infects the electorate.
RonD, you cheered me up last night. You had a good take on why the long road to the nom wasnt necessarily a bad thing.
I can’t rememeber what it was, explaining my current depression, but thanks. :)
My problem is that I loathed her and Bill before she ran, while she is running and I see nothing that will change my mind no matter what happens. And if she does get elected I am starting a pool for the first cruise missile
she launches because I guaran-fuckin-tee you that she will.
So in less than two weeks, Obama reduced a 20% Clinton lead in TX to approx 4% in the primary only, and cut a 22% Clinton lead to 10% in OH.
During his 12 in a row winning streak, his smallest margin of victory was 17%, and the margins averaged more in the 25% ranges.
Clinton wins by 10% and she’s crowing about having Obama as her running mate today?!?
Obama is clearly going to win. She cares nothing about the DemocratIC Party.
Austan Goolsbee was/is DLC..go figure.
Hillary only cares about Hillary. She she’s herself as the heir apparent in the royal family.
Raven, I agree with you and I try to highlight Barack’s stregths. His foreign policy argument and diplomacy should be viewed as a strength rather than a weakness. Our agreements or disagreements cannot advance his policy, he needs to do that and he can.
Did she really suggest that he run with her?
Obama told the DLC not to associate themselves with him. Hillary was chair (is still?) of the DLC.
What’s your point?
Yes. From today:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/campaign_rdp
I still consider the Republicans a greater enemy than the DLC.
I still think 1-2 more years withdrawing from Iraq is better than 50-100 years of occupation.
I still see universal health care better than our current system.
I still see relooking at NAFTA and attempting to gain environmental and working condition improvements as better than unrestricted free trade.
I still see getting rid of avowed neocons in the State Department and Republicans in the DOJ as a critical improvement.
I still see increase in taxes on the wealthy as an importang goal.
There are other things as well.
Great news! Go Vic! Send money, y’all. Every $5 helps.
Here’s a link to the Blue America page for her:

Thanks, Grouch! The quote was this:
Nobody should drop out-the issue is not yet decided. Super Tuesday didn’t used to be until June. The idea that this needs to be decided right now, IMO, is false. I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for Hillary. I have felt the pull of Obama. I voted for Edwards.
Breathe deep, and let the process work.

Citizen Scarecrow and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
I wanna see the Ohio crossover numbers…I heard a nibble last night someplace that the Republican crossover for Hillary was huge, if that’s right then we’re lookin at the destruction of the Democratic Party here. Nobody believes that right-wing, racist Pennsylvania will vote for Obama and every corrupt machine politician and recent parolee will be hawkin’ ten-spots on the streets for Mrs. Clinton. I was terribly disappointed that Obama didn’t go HARD after Clinton on NAFTA in Ohio and if he wants ta even be competitive in the Quaker State he better hit free trade and outsourcin’ relentlessly or we’re gunna get Crazy John McCain in the White House.
And no, Clintonistas, I will never again vote for a Clinton…and I’ll spend my energy and time workin for local progressives and givin’ ta Blue America.
And please Firepups, go read Ari Berman’s “The Dean Legacy” and then talk to me about the Clinton’s politics and the future of the Democratic Party.
And what about votin’ machines…any word from the ground on votin’ irregularities in the Ohio cities?
KEEP THE FAITH BUT DO THE WORK OR IT ALL ENDS HERE!!
I’ve lost some respect for Sen. Clinton in this race, and not because I think my candidate is “teh awesome”.
No matter who you support, it is undeniable that Sen. Obama has run a positive, uplifting campaign that appeals to our better selves. After 7 plus years of bogus terror alerts and a bogeyman around every corner, I’ve found it refreshing to hear someone tamp down the fear mongering and speak to bringing us together as a nation across racial, class and gender lines.
Sen. Clinton, not so much.
When faced with vanishing leads in her “firewall” states, what happened?
We got the Muslim tap dance, the 3am keep the kids safe ad, and the unforgivable statement that McBush has more experience to lead this country than Sen. Obama does.
She’s got to take some heat for that. Totally uncalled for, IMHO.
You’re right!!!
Ari Berman, “The Dean Legacy”, The Nation, March 17,2008
aaaaah. much better.
must not freak out and strangle hillary- or Obama- maniacs today.
must not…..
Goolsbee has been Obama’s chief economic advisor for ~4 years..he was (still is?) the Senior economic advisor for the DLC. Seems odd to me.
Ya gotta love a blog whose commenters are flamethrowers who sign off with revolutionary rhetoric, but then ask to see the break down on the cross over vote.
I love our commenters. ;)
It can take a real, conscious effort, can’t it? *g*
I could come up with a hundred reasons not to vote for any pol.
I only need to come up with one to vote for them this time. John McCain.
Might take us 30 years to move things towards what we consider an acceptable choice. Meanwhile, I just need to remember that Ralph Nader was the difference between President Gore or President Bush. (and yes, I know the supremes appointed him, but thanks to Ralphie, we now have two young federalists to deal with til 2050 or so. Not to mention all the other long-lasting damage.
As much as I hate to admit it, until I run for office, every one of my votes will be for the lesser of two evils. I can live with that, because the alternative is unbearable. Purity is for suckers. (and the pictures of me and all that weed pretty much insure my ineligability)

What the fuck??!!! I guess I missed sumpthin’…is Democracy not revolutionary??!! Listen kid, I was dukin’ it out with the closet Stalinists on college campuses in the 70’s and then in the Reagan ’80’s when that’s all that remained of “progressive” politics. What the fuck are you sayin’…??
KEEP THE FAITH BUT DON’T FUCK WITH THE BULL OR YOU’LL GET THE HORNS!!
I believe it was a compliment.

“I believe it was a compliment”
Oh, well then…”Thank you sir, may I have another.”
KEEP THE FAITH, EVEN DEAD FASCISTS ARE DANGEROUS!!
Relax — I meant it as a compliment — but I’m sorry if it did not come across that way. And no, you can’t have another. One a day.
Scarecrow, you probably won’t read this because it’s hours after you left your comment here, but you made me laugh like hell! LOL Thank you. I needed that and appreciate what you said too. :-)
I appreciate your response too, Waccamaw. I honestly wasn’t trying to hit the bee’s nest with a shovel between commenters here. I was just sharing my observations from last night. Honestly, I don’t expect many to agree with me. I’ve pointed out here that I beat to my own drum and the music in my head is much different than others, which explains why I dance so funny. LOL! What I’m trying to say is I see things from a perspective that many don’t. Quirky? Maybe. Annoying? Yes! LOL
