This past week, there's been three really stunning examples of just how completely divorced from reality the wingnuts are these days.
First, you have Glenn Reynolds' nutball fantasies of an al Qaeda-Saddam alliance:
OBAMA RESPONDS TO MCCAIN: “There was no such thing as Al Qaeda in Iraq until George Bush and John McCain decided to invade Iraq.” The problem with this statement is that, although it's an article of leftie faith, it's not true.
Why Reynolds considers the 9/11 Commission, the CIA and Colin Powell "lefties" is anyone's guess.
Next, you have W. expressing surprise at the price of gas.
"Wait, what did you just say?" the president interrupted. "You're predicting $4-a-gallon gasoline?"
Maer responded: "A number of analysts are predicting $4-a-gallon gasoline."
Bush's rejoinder: "Oh, yeah? That's interesting. I hadn't heard that."
I'm guessing most working people wouldn't use the word "interesting" to describe what gas prices are doing to their already stretched-thin wages.
But Mary Matalin, on "Meet The Russert" this weekend, had an answer for them, too.
MATALIN: Well, there’s an element of cognitive dissonance there, because if you ask them how their own personal finances are going, those numbers completely switch. Yes — he’s looking around. Those numbers are completely true. They absolutely switch on their own personal finances.
SHRUM: I think most people are getting very insecure about their personal finances.
MATALIN: That’s because they’re berated with these numbers.
Here's hoping St. McCain uses all of this great material and runs on Saddam's ties to al Qaeda, the great economy Americans don't appreciate because they're brainwashed by the media, and gas prices...what gas prices? I'm sure all three will be big winners for him in November.

Who could have known?

and shrimp curry for lunch!
poo at two.
Mary M= female Godzilla
Drive-by. Singles?
MATALIN: That’s because they’re berated with these numbers.
Yeah bitch we’re berated with numbers, the falling numbers in our bank accounts.
Hey BT, minutes later in that presser, bush was already at work on those gas prices he didn’t know about.
“Its working out very well for them”
let them eat cake
That’s the thing about poo. There’s always more where that came from.
W’s thinkin’ about gettin’ some mo oil…in Venezuela….as we speak…
Curiously, if you substitute “media” for “right wing” in the post’s title it works just as well:
The Media: Delusional, Out Of It, And In Denial.
BT…good points!
I just love it when Rs tell voters that economy is great & anyone who thinks it isn’t is delustional. If there’s anything that households know for sure, it’s their own wallets.
Is it okay if I call Mary Matalin dumb?
lovely Mary
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/.....icient.jpg
“Berated with numbers”?
Has she lost her ability to speak English along with her ability to reason?
“All governments lie, but disaster lies in wait for countries whose officials smoke the same hashish they give out.” I.F. Stone
On second thought, one could, perhaps, berate Mary about her high IQ and her perverse use of it.
Well, I berate, reject, and denounce those numbers.
Wait, the government’s giving out hash? Where?
Perhaps you should scroll up and see what I called her.
It’s a riff on the old “Who are you going to believe me or your lying eyes?”
I had a friend with the ability to “paint the picture” when she wanted to sell something. I watched her bring a whole group of potential buyers into this huge, empty, unfinished room, where she stood there with them for half an hour describing what she was going to do in the room. She pointed up and told them there would be bookcases with all kinds of great books on them and a sofa and chairs over there, with a rug that was such and such color, and the walls would be this color and over there a fireplace with a beautiful mantle, etc., etc….the people just followed her gesturing at the walls and over here and over there..
The fools bought the place. They bought a great big nothing, because nothing was there….and they paid full price too!
Unbelievable.
lol, metaphorically, in the US, at least.
Yep. However, the Rs got away with it on the war for a long time, so they’re trying it on the economy. But it won’t work on that subject. I’ve followed consumer sentiment numbers on the economy for a long time, and they’re very in touch with what’s going on.
I’m pissed that Obama actually acknowledged the organization known as “al Qaeda in Iraq”.
Despite their use of the marketing tool “al Qaeda”, this group remains primarily a home grown Sunni Iraqi insurgency.
However, Obama is dealing with an electorate whose collective brain begins to hurt when presented any manner of complexity.
bewildered and befuddled by facts
It doesn’t matter anymore.
Can’t you see?
Little Georgie and the Big Dick have data-mined the internet to find enough blackmail information to co-opt Congress, the Courts, and any member of the Executive Branch who refuses to drink the kool-aid.
We’re done for. The Constitution is toast.
Heil Bush
Actually, the feds have started taking away medicinal marijuana from cancer patients.
Nice. /s
This sounds like more great news for Republicans!
No argument.
The Republic is kaput.
Time to detonate it and start again.
As Jefferson recommended in the Declaration.
No surprise there. Security, after all, is such as growing market.
A couple of weeks ago I turned on the radio, and on our local station that’s a mix of liberal and right-wing talk radio, some winger show was playing. In response to a caller, the host was talking about the only reason people don’t like the super-rich and don’t want them getting their tax cuts is because of the media’s portrayal of them, and if the media just presented them accurately, everyone would see how great they are.
I laughed and laughed!
“facts are stupid things”
Wha happened? I was reading a top post on media treatment of the candidates, but when I tried to open the comments, I got a 404 and was then switched to this thread.
Bob in HI
Ah, the red-wing super hero!
must have been released too soon, happens once in a while.
Yeah, real winner telling people they’re stupid.
Mama always said, “stupid is as stupid does”.
I don’t think it is difficult to imagine what kind of drugs the wingnuts are on for both old age maladies and those that they use to fight the depression that is setting in on them. They know there kind are about to be relegated to the rubber room of society and they seem unable to cope.
We will see more and more absurdity due to King G’s statement yesterday. “making gains in Iraq” is code for war profiteering from the King, because it seems clear that this is all he is capable of understanding about the situation. Remember, he refers to condi as someone that advises him. Knowing she is incompetent and worse, one of the profiteers, she must feed him all of his good, or bad, news. To be this removed from reality shows well as he makes public statements. Same with her. Obvious lack of understanding the basics. Perhaps it is just that their bullying won’t do what it once did, and they too are freaking out
Since war profiteering ends when he leaves, (were that it were so) they find themselves incapable of understanding why anyone would want to stop killing and stealing of that for which they have sold their souls.
look for the new government in exile, landing on their feet in Dubai or the UAE. Very wealthy and ground zero.
OT - Dan Abrams at MSNBC (sounding quite punch drunk) reporting Andrea Mitchell will be up soon with an exclusive live interview w/Hillary from Texas…lasted less than a minute before back to Dan saying full details on the evening news. Pathetic.
You didn’t get your notice in the mail?
;)
Let’s not forget pathetic Tim Russert wrongly attributing that Obama’s pastor stated that Farakkahan(sp) epitiomizes greatness. It was a Chicago reporter who stated that in an article.
I think you all are making a bad mistake by assuming that the wingnuts are delusional and out of it. I think they darn well know the truth of things, but are trying to confuse the average citizen.
Boxturtle (If you’re a GOPer, confusion of the voters is your only hope)
So you accuse Bush/Cheney of total, seamless and complete success at findin’ sumthin’ on each and every person they wish to bend to their nefarious ends?
Of course, the ‘is no other explanation’?
For me, the wonder is how these people, all of them, are ‘acting’ their parts so well.
I can’t imagine that dramatic prowess of this magnitude has been witnessed since the days of the good Bard. We are truly blessed.
Little Georgie and the Big Dick…
I have a bit of a problem with that second nickname…
This is frikkin’ scary:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/.....376/468471
I Just called Sylvestre’s office in DC. I told them how disappointed I was with the FISA kabuki. She said they had been getting calls.
The Cruella deVaudeville quote about the economy is really popping up a lot in BigMedia. I’ve joked with a friend whenever we see a quote from one of the Toll Brothers from the mega-housing company, it will include some form of blaming “the media” for the economic problems. Sho nuff he came through again last week in a NYT article.
Jabba The Ailes of Pox Newz says this all the time, and no doubt Ruturd Murdoch feels this way. The new owner of the the LA Times/ChiTrib just took it a step further blaming Obama and Clinton for our downturn since they’re always “complaining” about the economy and making people concerned. Jack Welch, a former BigMedia boss was interviewing Sam Zell and agreed all along and really got a kick out of Zell’s comment that “even Liberals can follow logic at least some of the time.”
More of that Liberal media….
Mary Matalin is without doubt one of the most loathsome creatures I’ve ever had the misfortune to lay eyes on (even if it was, thankfully, only on the teevee).
She simply has no idea what the world is like when you’re not a rich white Republican (and if you don’t fall into those categories, it’s your own damn fault).
Maybe gas prices should be income-based. If Mary was payin’ $400/gallon, *perhaps* she’d get a clue…
They have constructed a new British East India Company as their government in exile, they will wage war on a successor administration not
to their liking while we try to make a country out of what is left. It will
be extremely difficult to pull off even if all the democrats could get on
the same page for it, the USA has been sold off, gutted and left like those
empty factory buildings in Ohio and elsewhere by the propagandists who
imagine they are still there… they believe their own lies, the definition
of insanity.
Hey, Whaat Happened to Jane’s post: As the Worm Turns. It was there. There were a few comments. And now it’s not there. ???
It was a draft that got posted too early it seems.
Same thing happened to me. I think we got a sneak preview.
Bob in HI
NSA pulled it.
Just kidding. Sometime posts get released too soon, so they put them back in the queue for later release. Comments stay there for when it comes back later today.
got posted early in error, I think.
I personally believe the wingnuts ARE delusional. A lot of them exist within the deliberately constructed propaganda reality presented by their blogs and the Fox/MSNBC/NBC/ABC/CBS propaganda mills. Like Barbara Bush who thought the Katrina refugees were better off living in an arena, a lot of these wingnuts have no actual contact with reality.
Bush may have been suprised by the gas prices, but it was a good suprise for him. His oil company pals are making big dollars and he likes that. He and the Republics are not demanding that anything be done now. If you look back to 1999, you’ll find that the same crowd was up in arms and wanted Clinton to do all sorts of things about gas prices back then.
We can finally put the Ohio Class to use, Doctor Strangelove.
Speaking of Delusional, out of it and in denial Right-wingers… How about a “total moron and ass on Hardball“?
Melanie Morgan, a/k/a Elsa, the she-devil of the SS has “been relieved of her duties“at KSFO.
Mike Stark must be over the moon! I know I am.
Josh Richman, local bay area political reporter weighs in, here.
Yeah, I’m sure I am the fifty-leventh person to bring this news to the FDL crowd, but at this moment, it’s a little hard to contain my glee.
I had thought in terms of political war sponsored from abroad, much like
AIPAC does now, only Dubai/Halliburton in this incarnation. It is not
impossible to imagine an actual war, but that is not what I was driving
at… the mad fools.
Bush may have been suprised by the gas prices, but it was a good suprise for him. His oil company pals are making big dollars and he likes that.
Ding! Greg Palast agrees (”Armed Madhouse”).
If there was, tomorrow, a deal signed by the Iraqi’s giving George and his pals the ability to *control* Iraq’s oil, we’d have 100,000 soldiers home within 60 days. Just gotta leave a few behind to protect (from permanent bases), the wells and pipelines.
O/T Bomb Threat halts voting in Madison, OH via MSNBC
OT
Has anyone seen an ad of Hillary’s where Obama is much darker than he actually is? AmericaBlog has an article and pictures and I haven’t seen the ad. If it’s so it’s shocking.
It’s absolutely inconceivable that Bush is unaware of gas prices. The economy is the HIGHEST priority for any administration and if energy prices get out of control the economic consequences can be disastrous, (politically as well). Bush feigning ignorance is, well, inconceivable.
The fact that his family’s wealth is derived from oil just puts the lie to W’s whole “I hadn’t heard that” shtick. No, he thinks by downplaying gas prices people won’t pay attention.
I’m not sure what the word for it is, but it’s not delusional and it’s not denial.
Wait, I just thought of the word.
Criminal.
FYI, I just tried to call Reyes’ office at the Intelligence Committee and was told via recording, that “Due to an erroneous advertisement we are experiencing an unusual amount of calls this morning - please leave a msg…” but the mailbox was full.
What’s the real scoop?
any time there is a critisism of the administration that person/organization becomes a “lefty”
fact
I called his Wahington office and got right through jacqrat
someone posted a diary about it over at orange overlord’s place
Here is the Americablog post on the Obama ad:
http://www.americablog.com/200.....ormal.html
What about Bay Buchanan’s statement that we HAVE to look into Obama’s background, because he could have Muslim blood?
“Erroneous advertisement”??????
Muslim blood? what the hell is muslim blood? blood is blood…Oh, just makes you want to flog her with a wet noodle
we should test Bay Buchanan to see if she has blood
How shameful that would be. For the noodle.
uhyup, this is true!
most people would NOT know how bad things were if they weren’t berated with the numbers indicating how bad things are
how could someone argue with that point?
Is that flung poo?
good grief. are we never going to be finished with this. I read about the most interesting study a few months ago. A professor did a DNA test on all his students to find out their backgrounds and heritage. One guy was blond, blue-eyed with very fair skin. His DNA actually had some Asian and African in it and he was very excited about that. We all have something “else” and isn’t that great.
Anyone who gives up their DNA voluntarily has a dark future, regardless of the original intended purpose. DNA can only be used against you.
You know, for all their discussions about “the highjacked religion of peace” it’s pretty clear the reichwing simply hates muslims — otherwise, why would it even be considered a smear that Barack Obama is one? There needs to be more pushback on these internet smears, of the variety: “No he isn’t but what’s the big diff?”
Like everything else about our constitution, Americans need reminding that there’s no religious test for office in this country.
How can you avoid giving up your DNA involuntarily? It’s constantly falling off you.
We need a government that protects our rights and privacy in this regard.
The hits just keep on comin’. Terry McAuliffe jumps on TV to spue fiction on Afghanistan over site attributing it to Obama when only his candidate has that oversight. They really think Americans are stupid about the Senate.
Actually, the price of gas has not gone up. The value of the dollar has gone down.
What about Bay Buchanan’s statement that we HAVE to look into Obama’s background, because he could have Muslim blood?
That is, I believe, called barely concealed racism.
otoh, if *I* were, as a white male, to convert to Islam, would I then have ‘Muslim blood in me’? Somehow, I don’t think so. Which begs the question - Just what *is* “Muslim blood” there, Bay?
[Mod Note; edited.]
Did Ms Mary really say that my personal finances were “berated by these numbers?” So, she agrees that high food and gas prices makes my finances less significant?
Wow, and I thought I could never agree with her!
But my corner gas station does not take euros!
They would if they were smart.
I don’t eat them, but is it better if it is a nasty moldy noodle?
Matlin also appeared on MTP to say that Iraq wasn’t one of the top two issues, and the American people don’t care about what’s happened in the past. I hope they continue with those kind of blinders.
the truth is We Are Family, we are all sisters and brothers.
That is the main problem and it is also the world’s vote on Bush/Republic economic policies.
The Republics are working hard to find an issue like gay marriage for the coming election.
Actually, this business of lying to the public is part of the “reality creation” project that the Rs have been using all along. The trouble with creating your own reality is that after a while you come to believe it is so.
Until they can change the subject of the election, what else can Republics like Matlin say?
Hehindeedy!
Um…
The higher the price of fossil fuels, the higher the urge to conserve and not waste. A dammed good portion of this county’s fuel consumption is waste, so from a standpoint of inconvenient truths, I’m all for high fuel prices until folks get real about melting ice caps. Folks should have listened to Jimmy Carter.
That being said, the operative phrase should be “windfall profit taxes.”

“Paradigm Change”
This is interesting…

I do believe adjusted for inflation these are the highest prices ever paid for petro
however I agree with your point and I have been predicting this inflation for some time now thanx to the president printing money withouut reservation;
I buy product from canada and they say they are keeping prices the same this year but we are paying a much higher exchange rate
I have been predicting this for some time no
In 2004 we took our then 5 year-od daughter with us to the polling place.
She was very excited and called out to her girlfriend up the block
“We’re going to vote for John Kerry”
HEr little friend lookde puzzled
“The man who wants to kill the babies?”
Now, this a a sweet kid, and while we don’t have a ton in common with the parents, they are generally decent, young folks, both Army Vets.
They have a Ron Paul sign on the lawn this year.
^_^
Obama has sponsored the “Tax Haven Abuse Act” to recover monies Wall Street Crooks have stashed away in offshore Pirate Islands. There are some 12,000 of the Crooks in the Cayman Islands, alone, harboring derivatives worth $1Trillion.
There are 500$Trillions worth of these derivatives stashed in Pirate Islands around the world.
Wall Street will be coming after Obama with both barrels blazing.
Don’t eat ‘em either but, be there a noodle beyond redemption? Do not noodles also await the Rapture and transport to their own ‘heavenly mansions’ or at least, a ‘righteous’ end, a chance to make something of themselves in the sauce of their better selves?
Do as you wish, but, in the better world we all would seek, all noodles are innocent until proven suseptible to brackmail or some such slimey connection as lobbying against the macaroni or supporting the endless occupation of spaghetti-land. Of course if ‘oil’ is involved we butter send them all to gitmo and let Dog sort them out.
Of course. They’ve had 8 years. I’m sure with 8 years of phone transcripts and complet internet history I could find something so excrutiatingly embarrassing that you’d do just about anything to keep it quiet.
It only takes a few people to corrupt the group.
Why is impeachment off the table?
I should like to see a wee bit of ‘evidence’ supporting this ‘Blackmail Theory’.
As ’speculation’ it has a following.
But for me, at least, it has more the aspect of romantic fantasy or the feeling of a fairy-tale.
Mere ‘embarrassment’ could not be excruciating enough; why not suggest dire threat, of life or limb or towards one’s family?
I do not find it reassuring that, according to your theory, ALL of the Democrats, willy-nilly, obligingly have ‘phone’ or ‘net’ peccadillos or felonious, clacking skeletons so ripe for plucking that, enmasse, without exception, they are so cravenly and contentedly in the palms of our latter-day Augustus (Bush) and his Livia(Cheney).
For if they are, they weren’t ‘much’ to begin with and hardly worth a fig to the rest of us, and therefore not worth defending and certainly not worth retaining in their present sinecures, which may well be the case, regardless, but I think the ‘answer’ far more simple.
They are doing what they are doing, not because they have to, but because they choose to, perhaps they even ‘want’ to.
Now, you ask, ‘Why might that be?’
The simple answer; ‘they’ really don’t see things the way ‘we’ do.
The less-happy answer; ‘they’ wish to be on the ‘winning’ side, which, painful as this might be to believe, they do NOT see as being with ‘us’, but rather with great wealth and unrestrained power.
If this last speculation (for a ‘theory’ it is not, there being no ‘test’ or reasonable procedure to determine the ‘truth’ of the matter) is true,
then it shall make little difference who holds, ostensibly, the reins of power, for ‘they’ are, many of them, to a greater or lesser degree, corrupted by that same power, and no more interested in truth or justice than those whom they would, playing to the ‘public’, appear to challenge.
In which case, it is all but sham and pretense, ’sound and fury, signifying nothing’ …
Whatever the ‘truth’ our dilemma remains, but perhaps ‘cynicism’ is, ultimately, more vulnerable to ‘change’ than is the power of fear, with which we have all become far too-familiar of late.
The real question, which all of us here face, is this; If the Democrats ‘win’, will it make any difference?
To be brutally honest, both your ‘theory’ and my worst-case ’speculation’, logically must argue, ‘NO!’
Were it otherwise, your ‘theory’ would require a mass confessional, which seems beyond ‘likely’; whereas my worst-case ’speculation’ would offer both more power and the opportunity of yet more wealth, neither of which would engender ‘good’ change or a call to honesty.
Our best hope, so it seems to me, is that my lesser ’speculation’ describes our situation, for then there is at least the possibility, however slim, that ‘change’ which neither threatens or embarrasses over-much, may be embraced by those who frustrate us so universally …
