Not to get into campaign arguments, but both Clinton and Obama are half-right and half-wrong. It is about experience and it is about judgment.
Except the problem really is about out-and-out stupidity and Georgw W. Bush’s years of experience with the problem.
[Palestinian national-security adviser Muhammad] Dahlan says he warned his friends in the Bush administration that Fatah still wasn’t ready for elections in January [2007]. Decades of self-preservationist rule by Arafat had turned the party into a symbol of corruption and inefficiency—a perception Hamas found it easy to exploit. Splits within Fatah weakened its position further: in many places, a single Hamas candidate ran against several from Fatah.
“Everyone was against the elections,” Dahlan says. Everyone except Bush. “Bush decided, ‘I need an election. I want elections in the Palestinian Authority.’ Everyone is following him in the American administration, and everyone is nagging Abbas, telling him, ‘The president wants elections.’ Fine. For what purpose?”
The elections went forward as scheduled. On January 25, Hamas won 56 percent of the seats in the Legislative Council.
Few inside the U.S. administration had predicted the result, and there was no contingency plan to deal with it. “I’ve asked why nobody saw it coming,” Condoleezza Rice told reporters. “I don’t know anyone who wasn’t caught off guard by Hamas’s strong showing.”
“Everyone blamed everyone else,” says an official with the Department of Defense. “We sat there in the Pentagon and said, ‘Who the fuck recommended this?’”
The who, was the Chimperor Disgustus. And don’t you love just another "nobody could have anticipated" claim out of Condi? This sure seems like the ideal thing to be her "epitaph" ["Nobody could have anticipated I'm mortal"]
And when the elections were held on Bush’s insistence and things went from bad to worse, Bush decided to turn them up a notch.
Bush didn’t like the fact that the elections he demanded produced a result he didn’t like, even though everyone had warned him about it. So he decided to try to undermine the democratic election he alone wanted by issuing yet another demand.
He pressured Fatah to declare a state of emergency and go after Hamas in spite of the results, when Fatah’s leadership wasn’t keen enough on this idea, the Decider decided some more, "SEND ‘EM GUNS!"
Amazingly enough, it just isn’t easy to play Teddy Roosevelt when your personal history is more like his brother Elliot Roosevelt. Further, Bush is not exactly surrounded by Commodore Deweys. The Jordanian press reported the arms shipments and just like that, a civil war breaks out between Hamas and Fatah…and Fatah loses (which is why they demurred from acting in the first place). And what arms was Hamas using?
Why the arms the Chimp sent for Fatah.
So Hamas won the election, thanks to Bush.
Hamas won the civil war, thanks to Bush.
Hamas captured and loaded up on American weapons, thanks to Bush.
And now Hamas regularly shells Israel from Gaza, thanks to Bush.
And yet, it’s Barack Obama decried as not being supportive enough of Israel?
You know,” says [Khalid Jaberi, a commander with Fatah’s al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades], “since the takeover, we’ve been trying to enter the brains of Bush and Rice, to figure out their mentality. We can only conclude that having Hamas in control serves their overall strategy, because their policy was so crazy otherwise. […]
Now that it controls Gaza, Hamas has given free rein to militants intent on firing rockets into neighboring Israeli towns. “We are still developing our rockets; soon we shall hit the heart of Ashkelon at will,” says Jaberi, the al-Aqsa commander, referring to the Israeli city of 110,000 people 12 miles from Gaza’s border. “I assure you, the time is near when we will mount a big operation inside Israel, in Haifa or Tel Aviv.”
Bush and Rice are simply incapable of negotiation — they dictate. When it comes to being flexible or choosing to bully and threaten, the choose the latter every damn time.
What a legacy.

Attaturk! You’re rolling this morning…
It’s pretty clear Bush, Condi, and the rest of the Regime love the killing of the innocent no matter who is doing it. They cheer it until the cameras turn on and then they suddenly act like they didn’t see it coming and try to remove themselves from any blame.
The Regime hasn’t focused much on Israel/Palestine over the years and for good reason. Using Israel as a catalyst for more war is always a good thing for the warmongers. The bees inside the jar are raging mad and there will be a time when the jar is smashed open.
We’ve had 7 years of Who could have thought that would happen!!!. Remember 9/11. They just couldn’t visualize anybody using airplanes to attack the US. What a couple of dolts. Condi and Bush really should just stay home and outof the spot light. At least Condi. She is a piece of work. It all sounds so familiar.
Right on
Bush is as hated as Isreal in the Arab world. What could he accomplish there?
Nothing
o/t Apparently the Dems are going to cave this week and give the telcoms immunity and Bush all the stuff he wanted to spy without warrants.
Meanwhile, the DOJ continues to stall on Republican prosecutions and anything involving the crimes of AG.
So, in effect, the Democrats will give Bush power to spy on Democrats without a warrant (or reason) – again.
Am I wrong here?
Now they hyping up on Iran again. I am really worried they will strike against Iran and really start a holocost in the Middle East. thank you Rev. Haggee.
Does Joe Lieberman really believe he’s loved by the right wingers who are hell bent on “protecting” Israel? I think he does. He’s in for a rude awakening when he realizes Joe, Israel, and others have been used by the Evangelical whackos to get what they want, which is, the destruction of Israel so Jesus will return. LOL Sorry, it makes me laugh sometimes. Sad really. Oh, but Joe thinks he’s got friends in high places! He’s feeling safe! Oh boy.
Okay, going to work. Great post Attaturk. Pointing out the incompetence of the Regime is always a good thing, because McCrazy supports the Regime and their intentions. It scares me some days that Hillary can relate to McCain knowing what he represents. ;-)
The right wing and the neocons believe in the idea that what we say and want MUST be followed around the world. It’s imperial and empires don’t negotiate, they decree. The make their empire do as they emperor wants. You don’t negotiate with serves, or lessor people. You impose your world view because it serves YOUR need to get what you want from the empire.
We may not have declared an “official” empire, but we use the rather innocuous “sphere of influence” or strategic interests which happen to lie outside our shores.
The rest of the world is increasingly resentful of this domination. And domination is a religious notion. God gave man dominion over the earth and the strongest man (men) group or country gets to run the world.
These days the ones who run the show are the transnational corporations. Their purpose is simply to create “wealth” and control wherever and however they can. Nation states now do the bidding for these corporations, or they simply ignore them or work outside their jurisdiction.
Negotiation is way too egalitarian for those with power.
No you aren’t. It’s pretty disgusting isn’t it?
I am suprised she didn’t say;
“nobody could could have predicted hamas would win”
even though the only person that thought elections were a good idea was the president
BRILLIANT!
I just don’t understand why they are so willing to just give away their power. Isn’t power what politicians live for? And they just give it away to Bush, for no apparent reason. I don’t get it!
They could visualize airplanes attacking america. In fact it was the perfect way to scare the shit off americans and at the same time have a perfect excuse to blame it on islamic terrorists.
I predict that we will learn a very different story about 911 and who was involved in that event.
Good post Attaturk. By everybody. Gots to go to work.
I hold to the same truths as you. I don’t believe the 911 commission report at all. They were hoodwinked or they were complicit.
Good Morning Attaturk,
wonder what if any traction this is getting in places like Haertz(sp?) and Jerusalem Post –
megpiepie1 – good morning Bell County! cold but no rain here in Williamson -
there is an informative diary about how to caucus over at DKos written by Kath25 – she is an Obama precinct captain but has lots of good info for anyone wishing to join in the fun (know Roberts Rules, Bring Snacks, do it to strengthen the cause in November, etc)
I am having link issues but you can simply google – How To Caucus in Texas – dkos
love, love , love seeing all these Lone Star Firedogs
silly george. look over there! why it’s a bright shiny mccain! see him lie? seem him want to bomb people? oh, nooooo mccain.
see? isn’t that better?
We certainly wouldn’t want you to crib quotes conservatively, Attaturk. Nice post.
The thing I find reassuring is that both Democratic candidates are reasonable, pragmatic, intelligent adults rather than spoiled, egotistical, lazy, ideologues. We’ve suffered for 7 years under a lazy frat boy who was given the world to play with, thinks he can bend the little toy people into whatever shapes he wants, and gets mad and throws them down, or pouts, when they don’t bend right. Imagine if he had been president during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
With Impeachment off the table, my money is on complicit, Pelosi, Reed, et al are Fascists until they can provide real evidence of their innocence. Just how Occham’s razor cuts.
they were compicit, they deliberately witheld information so we wouldn’t find anyone accountable
this they told us
think someone is channeling (for a coke ;-)
Here is some more good info on Texas caucuses from Democracy for Texas. How To Win Your Precinct Caucus
I suspect that all the national security nonsense and secrecy, and immunity is to hide the facts which are left behind in “data” which will lead to the real story of who and how we dominated.
The thing is you can destroy physical evidence, but data can’t be destroyed and those facts will lead to a very uncomfortable or inconvenient truth.
coke is on me then
Thank you. And yes it is cold here. 36. I’m from Minneapolis originally, but have been down here 2 years. I’m COLD. LOL. I will look this information up at work today. I have a pretty quiet office. Just me!!. I listen to air America, Colorado and Pheonix radio stations and go on line to read all the blogs. I keep informed. I work parttime Tues-Fri for a contractor and he is out all day. Good job to have.
Have a good one Firepups. I may be able tlog in later this AM.
I love this site. I read Pheonix Woman also, Minnesota Stile.
Muchas gracias, and one for you as well
Ref. prior post discussion on Texas 2 Step. Local Democratic Party HQ just returned call and said they have all info needed from voter roles, so all we need to do is show up at voting place at 7:15. So, we’ll do it.
Great Thank you.
re: fisa.
it’s on the house schedule for tomorrow:
.
watch the house rules committee schedule for an emergency meeting, unless they plan to consider fisa under a previously adopted rule… we’ll see it pass through the house rules committee first.
by that time all the back stage negotiation and kabuki planning will be complete. please consider making a few calls today. thank you.
OK, I’m having a little trouble with that razor. Attaturk is mighty persuasive to say that BushCo can’t even plan competently, let alone execute those plans:
And you’re saying that this is the same crew that somehow engineered a fake attack on 9/11? And kept it from being revealed?
Sorry, but there’s a helluva lot more evidence for stupidity than competence with BushCo. Occam’s Razor isn’t going to help your 9/11 theories very much.
Thanks for the editing Peterr, post corrected.
thank you selise!
here are the katymine numbers for your Representative and Senators. Just dial any of these and the operator will patch you through.

Please DIGG this excellent post,
Bush sets up the middle east for war by taking the Sunnis regime out in Iraq. That empowers the Shites who defeated the Shah…the republican ally.
Then they empowered Hamas by the election setting the table for Isreal to go to war with surrounding enemies, Lebanon, Syria and Palestine…McCain’s 100 years.
This will be the rethugs election strategy. The Isreali lobby will go all out to push the Fundies into a dither. Everything is going according to their plan.
Another major war will weaken us at home and abroad.
It’s worth considering all this in light of Naomi Klein’s thesis of The Shock Doctrine — sow the seeds of discord and terror and the corporatist and “elected” elite reap the wealth. And if one shock isn’t enough, apply more.
Pew Research Poll suggests “Quarter of Clinton supporters would vote McCain over Obama”! I hope this is BS…
fwiw, The campaign is propagating this information. Terrific!
The dog that did not bark, the obvious stupidity of George W Bush, was
his strong suit in anti-intellectual America. Brains are something you
rent in Texas and Hollywood and the rest of the country has followed
that lede happily since Reagan. The party is over and some smart folks
will clean up the mess, if there is enough left.
YES! YES! AND YES!!!
Bush and Condi may not be competent, but there is evil compentence pushing from behind.
Attaturk and the pups out there,
Where does it say in the job description of the secretary of state’s the most important job ,history will remember you for ,is being a secret shopper? Name one outstanding accomplishment the lady added to her resume.
Remember on 3-19-08 No shopping,no work and no school ,show you care.
And to Attaturk and the other posters, how blessed you are with this band of fools in control ,it isn’t running out of material rather which scum rises to the top and stinks the most, a never ending quest I would suppose.
from glenn greenwald yesterday:
imo, the best statement i’ve read on both our “Democratic” congress and on the current state of FISA legislation.
Your gratuitous insults are always appreciated by those of us here in the Lone Star State. It isn’t the first instance, either. How about putting your broad brush away?
sorry to pick on you, Attaturk, with the OTs… because i love you and think you’re great. (and thank you for your early morning posts!)
but i am so sick of watching our D congress fuck up. that the Rs are sometimes worse is no consolation.
The other question is how this benefits the Saudi regime. Remember that Bandar Bush threatened Tony Blair with terrorist attacks in London. With GWB family loyalty and the bottom line of the family business was probably sufficient.
Yeah, I hope that’s BS. However, it’s beginning to look like the 10% of disaffected Obama supporters might almost equal in number to the 20% of disaffected HRC supporters (kidding). However, I actually don’t see how that many of either candidates supporters would be disaffected enough to vote for McCain, unless they were never real Democrats, are racist, or are sexist.
Shock Doctrine is a great book, but I’m not sure how much it applies here. I don’t exactly see Israel, Hamas, Fatah, or anyone else in the region inviting the Chicago Boys to come and fix things. On that, I think all the players in the Middle East would be in agreement.
Since I did not call you by name, and am a Texan by birth, I call it
like I see it. Resent it or deny it, Texas has a problem with the idea
that something beyond violence, threats, ass whupping are needed for
civilization, too much hollywood myth has replaced the old Texas of
McMurtry.
from Vanity Fair -
this sounds tragically familiar
Duh. They never asked Bush’s input or let him in on all the details! Just look at his reaction w/ pet goat location,he had no idea of the scale.
My reference was to the fact Pelosi, Reed, et al have covered access to impeachment and have become as rubber stamp as the congress that accepted 9/11 findings with all their (alleged) faults and failures on the minimal presented evidence. Those are the facts which leave as a minimal Pelosi, Reed, et al are fascists until further evidence is presented to prove their innocence. Since they seem to have destroyed the constitution, they do not enjoy the protection of that document, let them prove their innocence beyond doubt.
when i go looking for “smart folks” one the first things i’ll look for is someone smart enough to know there are brains in texas.
Long as you aren’t couning yourself among those who will clean up the mess, I’m fine with it. You obviously do fit right in with the other 27 million brainless foloks here.
The Siege of Gaza has been going on in one form or aother since 1948. It will continue until the Israeli far right and the compliant American government – GOP or Democrat-led – creates a big enough distraction elsewhere that Americans and West Europeans will be too numbed to notice that the siege is over.
Exactly. The manipulation of these bozos is a cinch…who controls the corporate oligarcy in Conneticut? Be safe by world domination unimportant marginalized state can be ignored, The CIA is now owned by this administration and protected by the DOJ and the Supremes. The strategy comes out of neocon think tanks the secret apparatus implements it. The november election is what counts…get back the white house and turn it around. Obama and Hillary need to be allies to win the WH not adversaries.
I saw Keith Olbermann’s report on Bush’s time spent in Crawford. It showed films of him in jeans, straw hat, cutting brush. For first time, I symathized with him and thought, only about 11 months left and he can get rid of that damn chain saw.
If Bush had been in office during the Cuban missile crisis, we probably wouldn’t be here to imagine anything.
lol!!
It’s not the heat it’s the stupidity. How true. What is exasperating about this is that when I point this out to otherwise liberal though politically very conventional friends and colleagues, I get dismissed as a ‘Bush-hater’, as if that resolved the issue. We don’t see much of this on progressive blogs, but the general public, much as they dislike Bush’s policies, seem to think that people were against them early anid often were just ’sore losers.’ I don’t understand this psychology, but it’s real. I experienced it again yesterday with a colleague originally from Westport who still thinks Chris Shays is ‘liberal’. I won’t even start to get in to our conversations about Liberman.
Literal minded, thin skinned, humorless response indicates superficial
interpretation… this current dominant brand of republican conservative
worldview is a Texas product, the Texas establishment owns it, and has
sold it to the rest of the country as a myth. There are plenty of bright
people in Texas, they just have no say in how the state is run or who
runs it, not a happy situation.
He can go back to Highland Park and try to “settle down”… whatever that
would be in his terms is hard to figure.
I was thinking more of her analysis of the transformation of Israel in the 90’s and probably conflating it with her general thesis. I also get the feeling that the liberals (for lack of a better word) in Israel are as powerless against a corrupt government, which ensures re-election because of the ongoing and debilitating state of attack, as we are in the face of the Bush administration.
I was disappointed in Keith and Rachel last night. They were discussing the 3:00 a.m. tv ads and Rachel said something to the effect that when the fear card is played studies show that the public votes Republican because ‘although everyone knows it isn’t true, the Republicans are perceived as better at keeping the nation safe’.
Stop.Right.There.
We who employ thought and reason and read and listen to Independent Media know the Bush administration’s and its complicit Republican Congressperson’s abysmal record on national defense. It is simply criminal negligence. Worse, it is knowingly, willfully criminal behavior. Much of the ‘public’, however, gets its ‘news’ from F#$%s News and the Corporate Media, and their thinking and reasoning skills have become as flaccid as, well, why does George Bush wear a codpiece?
We must stop assuming that the public knows an iota of what it needs to know about Republicans and national defense. I think the Democratic leadership has been shamefully ineffective at presenting the overwhelming body of information that puts to the lie the myth of Republican wisdom and strength when it involves
anythingour national defense.I would love to hear Obama really open fire on this subject.
that’s a little different than saying “Brains are something you rent in Texas”
but hell, what do i know? i’m only literal minded, thin skinned and humorless.
How in hell will anyone get that over to people and live long enough
to do it?
i think israel is playing point. their economy has long ago been made into the tool of right wing fanatics.
celise at 41: in re Glenn’s question about the Dems, I am afraid that they have adopted
athe page out of Arlen Specter’s playbook. It is so refreshing to see Rachel on primetime tv, but am I the only one who thinks her comments are becoming less insightful and more bland the more she is on (television)?
hard to imagine, but the reid/pelosi congress is about to become a more bush-compliant congress than the frist/hastert congress was.
I grew up in an oil town and I know what brains are worth to the oil
elite, kids like Bush who could not fail no matter what they did had
nothing but contempt for intellect so they would brag that barais were
something you rent, Sam Goldwyn rented Scott Fitzgerald and William
Faulkner with the same attitude. Brains are ok for engineers and accountants, but god guns and gutz still dominate here.
We’re getting into needless arguments. Many of us from Texas are disgusted with the prevailing political climate here. There was a time when real people, like Molly Ivins, Ann Richards, Jim Hightower, and others were characteristic. In those days, anyone who mouthed John Wayne phrases, like “bring ‘em on” would have been despised as a “drug store cowboy.” For the last number of decades, through the civil rights act, and immigration into the sunbelt, the state has become dominated by voters who gave the nation people like George Bush, Tom DeLay, Dick Armey, and Phil Graham.
if you haven’t seen it already, go over to Moyers and watch the video when RG Joe makes his entrance at the CUFI Klavern – disgusting
google: Moyers – CUFI, there’s a vid
cbl, you can just copy then paste the link into your comment, have you tried that yet?
Aaron David Miller is coming out with a book about the Camp David meetings at the end of the Clinton administration, and US-Arab-Israeli dipomacy, called The Much Too Promised Land. Here’s a gem, related by Sen. Chuck Hagel:
i’m not disagreeing with you that there lots of that in texas. what i am disagreeing with is your one-dimensional description of texas.
you mentioned highland park…. don’t forget, right across the street (inwood ave if you know dallas) is the largest primarily glbt church in the world (and the fourth largest UCC congregation).
texas is a big state – it’s not all what you describe.
don’t like to see good people stereotyped without some friends coming to their defense. that is all.
Elliot,
thank you and yes I’ve tried. got so excited with your help on this the other day but continued to get the same ol 404 message every time
am trying to be a good firedog and not take up any thread time with extraneous stuff but it’s frustrating, I used to be quite the link queen and now snake eyes w/ every attempt
maybe if someone explained it real slow *g* but in the past there used to be 2 prompts in the link box 1 for pasting URL and then 1 to shorten/rename it – now I just get the one box
(((cbl2)))
not extraneous! what’s more important?
i’m sure elliott’s explanations will help others who are having the same or similar problems.

cbl2, that is how it works now. The preview function is inoperative PASTE YOUR TITLE HERE!!!.
I have never understood why that http is already in there because if you don’t delete it, the link won’t work. Every link I ever have has http in the url anyway by convention. Maybe someone can tell me.
How’s your neck?
Oh goodie! Are we playing, “My state is dumber than yours.” I missed it last time.
a href=”http://xxx”>PASTE YOUR TITLE HERE!!!
CBL2 I am trying to get it to show you between the > < </p>
How did that come up? If Texas is trying to make that claim, there are a lot of recent transplants in Alaska, from Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma up here who have put Alaska right up in the “dumbest state” category.
later pups! have a great day and don’t forget to call a congress critter or two!
I predict that we will learn a very different story about 911 and who was involved in that event.
I agree wholeheartedly with this prediction and the sooner we learn the truth the sooner we can take disciplinary action against those really responsible for this mess.
Atmosphere at the Lake seems to be a little testy today…………PEACE, friends!
We’ve antied George Bush. Are you in or out?
And I see even more of those Alaska pols heading off to the big igloo. More plea bargains = higher targets. Jeeze I never realized how corrupt it was up there on the other hand oil = corruption so…..
thank you everyone !!!, the tip about preview not working is probably the key – will do some practicin’ and see if I can rope this doggie
nonplussed, if you don’t mind my asking where in Texas are you ? we are in Hutto, Williamson County
PetePierce, yeah, that funny http;// is there as a hint -totally ignore it – it disappears when you paste.
Re my neck, how nice of yuou to inquire, but it must be someone else’s neck; but mine is up to in work!
Let’s hope not since I’m in GA.
That’s why I didn’t want to miss out . . . Jim Clark COS to x-Gov Murky – an admitted criminal! Whoda thunk?
No shortage of idiots in office or the people who elect – and keep re-electing – them!
There’s a reason I’m NOT blogging about the nomination fight.
We can at least all agree, George Bush is danger to himself and others.
PS, PetePierce, was impressed with your contributions to the Siegelman thread.
How about “smart” states like Vermont. I don’t think that the chimpenfeurher dares visit up there.
I’ll see your Clark and Murky and raise you Alberto Gonzales.
hello Edward Teller – sure would like to know why Alice Fisher’s DOJ is so vigorous in Alaska and moribund everywhere else
Let me raise you 49 …(grinning, here)
…’There are plenty of bright people in’ America, ‘they just have no say in how the’ country ‘is run or who runs it.’
The dis-ease has spread and it has nothing to do, incidently, with ‘blackmail’ but rather with craven self-interest.
No matter how bad things may become for the rest of us, many in the political ‘class’ intend to protect and ‘reward’ themselves, knowing full well that whatever pain they might feel will be minimal. It is ‘devil take the hindmost’ and whom do you think that ‘category’ includes?
You’ve got your ‘haves’ and your ‘have-mores’ which group do your Senators and Congresspersons belong to (or wish to belong to)?
The nation has been sold out, the only haggling regards the disposition of the ‘remains’.
I agree. How could a gang so incompetent everywhere else pull off something that effective and coordinated without leaving pointers all over the place.
I also agree that we don’t know everything about how that fiasco came about. However, I do believe you’re going to have to look somewhere else.
‘With Impeachment off the table, my money is on complicit, Pelosi, Reed, et al are Fascists until they can provide real evidence of their innocence. Just how Occham’s razor cuts.’
No doubt some of them are complicit, but more (I think/hope), know that there would be only one shot at getting ‘EVERYONE’ in the spider web (and it goes deep and way back).
So maybe ‘Impeachment is off the table’, because it has already been decided to go with it. BUT, because of whom we are talking about (family bush/cheney/rove/wolfowiz etc, etc) the case/evidence/support of The People has to be completely solid. A lot of todays players were also playing ‘during’ Watergate/Iran Contra etc..
Off the Table could mean no longer negotiable, therefore, no longer on table…and sometimes I’m just a Little Optimist. :)
Those changes you describe in our state have produced this faux Texas
that unfortunately has reproduced itself on a national scale. When Dick
Armey blew into NTSU and the faculty was gutted to suit his politics
in the late 70’s, it was downhill form there… you have it right compadre.
test . . . this is only a test of the cbl linking system
CUFI
We of North Dakota apologize for Armey…he slithered out of here for Texas and we were glad to see him go. Sorry, Texas.
new thread up
Supposedly, when Miss Alice tried to deliver the Cheney-inspired message to the DOJ Office of Public Integrity to stop the investigation two years ago, there was a very quiet, very firm revolt by the surviving old-time investigators there. Edward Sullivan, the lead investigator on this set of trials, will have one helluva book when this is over – about 2011. I’m pretty sure that names will come out by the end of March that push this series of indictments into RICO territory.
Good play :)
It’s gonna be a long day; off to start it.
You have it right, Texas is just the microcosm and the idea was to spread
it as wide as possible… it works, unfortunately.
CUF?? got a 404. try linking to another blog maybe
crikey ! still getting 404 when I typed “CUFI” in btw the > and the
if you are trying to type it out long hand…. stay tuned will post that
I’m in Austin (Westlake) now, I lived near Liberty Hill in Wilco for many years, though.
oh great :( should read “in btw the > and the < backslash ‘a’>
first, note that i will use @ for < and @@ for > OK?
@a ref=”http://www.whateverTheURLis.com”@@the fancy phrase you want as a link@/a@@
OK cbl2 don’t give up.
Type “bush” in the comment box.

The new blue Texas you describe is not yet the dominant culture, that
will take time and the end of the petrochem era that has turned the rest
of Texas into greater Houston. I hope it happens, but you should know
that the mindset I describe is real or you would not seek out the
enclaves of sanity you describe.
We don’t “need” a national defense per se. No one is seriously at risk of storming our beaches.
Let’s get real. The national defense “establishment” has stood up all these “fears” and they are ALL nonsense. Not USSR nor China wanted to or wants to attack us. What on earth for?
BushCo didn’t engineer 9/11. They let Obama do it.
I’ve lived in Texas. It looked just like every other place I’ve ever been. Short ones, smart ones, fat ones, dumb ones, and the fact is George is a transplant like most everybody else in America.
He likes to play the cowboy, but the people who know (and a lot of them are Texans) consider him all hat and no cattle. They may not tell that to his face – yet, but that’s what they think
Molly Ivins, Jim Hightower . . .
Thanks for the link — it was illuminating.
I sorely wish that Dems would eschew the influence of all lobbyists…
(a girl can dream– even this increasingly cynical one)
Glen Greenwald explains this Texas effect on DC very well in Tragic Legacy
I thought you had said yesterday you sprained in shoveling snow.
All they have to do is examine the way Texas functions and they will see
the prototype for the corporate confiscation of public assets cloaked in
religious intolerance backed up by police state mentality we now see at
large as the new america. Greenwald is completely on target, as he usually is.
Don’t forget it was Obama who requested Lieberman to be his mentor in the Senate.
We are in the grip of some real egomaniacs who may at times appear to be stupid, but who are carrying out a plan which is consistent, destructive and truly scary.

TELNET:// on some sites will let you access and run an application program over the net.
The browser just checks for http:// access first by default.
In the days before the “Web” the use of ftp and telnet was tedious and painful, but usable. Now we are all free to mindlessly become Obama, er uh, http users. Thank God Al Gore invented Barack Obama, er uh, the Internet.
heh.
