Which leads me to the YouTube: the snipy, nasty, backstabbing idiocy that has taken over a certain segment of the comments of every political blog in the form of "my candidate is Jesus and yours is Satan." It has to stop. Truly.
Because your zeal to promote your particular candidate — who is TEH AWESOME FOR WORDS — is driving everyone else batshit crazy. Why? Repeating talking points that everyone has already seen for months and months is annoying — be they for or against a particular candidate — and…it’s just silly.
As in KLo still mourning over the loss of the daily Mitt hair-do report and teh awesome suit and how his tie color brings out his eyes and dazzling pearly white smile and… just silly.
Here’s a clue for everyone engaging in the ritual primary poo flinging with gusto: these people are politicians. Your candidate is not the second coming (or the first, depending to what religion you may or may not adhere). Your candidate is, first and foremost, interested in doing whatever it takes to get elected. Period. Regardless of party.
Because this is…wait for it…a political process. And a lengthy primary is nothing new. So suck it up, people.
But if you cannot help yourself. If getting that last jab in is beyond your control. If you must rebut that last nagging nitpick from two days ago or your brain will explode. If you must share the welling up of your heart for this really important tangential reason that keeps you up at night (and why does this sound like a faculty party fight about the importance of a 16th century Spanish literature folk tale to all of Western civilization as we know it?)…then this is the thread for you.
Fling your poo. But keep it here.
Don’t drag it around, because we are going to be up late and trying to parse out a lot of information, and would like to do so without having to moderate poo-flinging personal insults and invective. For one thing, it tears at the community we have worked hard to build here over the last few years. And that messes with our long-term effort to elect more and better Democrats. It’s been a long primary, which may not be over even after all the votes are tallied today, and no one wants to spend the day wearing hip waders.
So, if you have any poo, fling it now…
John Harwood lays out the timing for poll closure:
Vermont — 7 pm ET
Ohio — 7:30 pm ET
Rhode Island — 9 pm ET
Texas — 9 pm ET to determine 2/3 of the delegates, with an evening caucus to follow to determine the other 1/3 delegate allocation.
Independents can vote in all four primaries today — and the earliest returns in from Texas are worth watching closely, as Harwood says, because they could foretell overall campaign strength for Dem candidates. Same goes for Ohio, but more as a weathervane for McCain’s ability to pull in anyone beyond the kool-aidy GOP voters. Lots to watch today, including the weather and voter turn-out.
(Oh, and your favorite candidate still sucks. If you can’t laugh, then you are taking things a little too seriously. Huge H/T to Mr. ReddHedd who reminded me of this scene.)

Mr. Reddhedd ! most excellent
Christy, what’s the analysis of how all those independents and cross-overs voting in the Dem primaries will break?
Will they go for Obama because they prefer him?
Will Repubs cross over & vote for Hillary because they know she’s easier to beat [and Rush told them to do so]?
Thoughts?
I was watching a re-run of Letterman last night and he had a clip of Edwards during his “Know your current events” segment. It made me realize that I really, really, really miss John Edwards.
This little video clip cracks me up. Enjoy, everyone…
But what’s the scene from?
I am excited about the 50 state strategy and the progress being made. I think this is more important over the long haulo thhan anything else.
PS Christy – raining here – no dachshunds want to go out and get wet. Bet PJ is all curled up somewhere warm.
And in the “poo” department:
I’m a Yellow Dog Democrat. Thus it revolts me to see the partisan attacks Hillary is leveling @ Obama, all for her own success.
Are there so few of us out there — we who care for the Democratic party and the principles it used to espouse — who are turned off by Clinton’s antics and would never vote for her, or are we all Obama supporters anyway?
I’ve seen analysis on that issue that is all over the map. I think the dynamic this year is so fluid, it’s impossible to really make an accurate prediction. Which is why watching this unfold over the course of the day is going to be fascinating!
Sorry, I’m all pooed out.
BTW, Thank you FDL for being sane in an insane world.
CHS:
This post seems designed to provoke. Picture me screeching and gnashing my teeth (Obama! Obama! Obama!). I’m all out of poo, though.
Good Morning Christy,
Good post and you are correct. A lot of stuff has been said yesterday and today so far. It’s pretty sad when we are fighting amonst ourselves. We need to stay united no matter whose candidate takes the next four states.
I guess it depends on who you ask.
Wait. What? People making up their own minds? People voting? People deciding? Huh?
It’s from “The Wild.” It’s a so-so cartoon, but the monkeys are freaking hilarious throughout…
What a great summary of the arguments lately!
Get it all out and be done with it. After this, the place is gonna get hosed down like a dive bar after closing* and NO poo flinging will be tolerated. We’re adults and can act like it. Even if we don’t want to. :)
(I’m not comparing FDL to a dive bar in any way. Just being funny.)
Even though she is not my candidate, I have to say I feel very good about any woman, particularly the grandmothers and great grandmothers and oldest women voters who are taking great pleasure voting for Hillary Clinton. I wish they weren’t but I sure applaud what they have bravely lived through over the years in terms of opportunity and glass ceilings.
I live in what would I suppose be categorized as a very politically “active and aware” neighborhood. We have large Hillary signs up all over the place as well as bumper stickers. More than one woman has said to me and a couple men on the street who have a reasonably good command of the issues “Look here’s what it comes down to for me. I think she has the qualifications and more importantly it is way overdue for a woman to be President. I don’t know when of if a woman will have the chance soon. That clinches my vote. I understand and respect that.
Christy – Is WV gonna be relevant this primary season?? Prediction please.
Think of it as “the dump” thread for today. Because I honestly cannot take thread after thread of poo-flinging today. I have really had it. So be forewarned people — if you have poo-flinging to do today, confine it to this thread for all of our sakes.
Another reason not to fling too much poo is that if Hillary wins (perish the thought!) we’ll have to seriously get behind her (Ugh!)
No poo from over here. I voted and that is that. I sent money to Edwards and that is that too! Just going to wait and see who comes out ahead and whoever that happens to be I will support because he or she is a Democrat. Thanks for the reminder that this is, in fact, a political process and that all the players are politicians. It will be interesting. I don’t expect anything more than some intelligence and thoughtfulness in White House. If we can get that after the Shrub’s reign then that will be quite enough thank you.
Remember folks, this is what we are up against:
From Media Matters:
On The O’Reilly Factor, referring to a photograph of Sen. Barack Obama dressed in traditional Somali clothing, Rush Limbaugh said, “I think that Michelle Obama is seething over the attacks that the Clintons have made against her husband with that photo with, you know, Obama looking like Ayman [al-]Zawahiri, all of this talk about his middle name and so forth.” Limbaugh added that Michelle Obama responded “with a womb-to-womb frontal attack on Hillary Clinton.” In fact, Sen. Hillary Clinton has denied any knowledge of the photo’s release
I’ve got a cat who sometimes flings poo out of the litter box. Can she play too?
Thanks, Christy, for trying to bring some sanity to the party.
Wouldn’t that be fun for once? But, alas, I think we’ll be a bridesmaid yet again…
lol, love the clip
The video is a good chuckle!
I love kids’ movies. They are fall-down heehaw funny and I used to feel sorry for people without kids who don’t take time to watch them. If you have kids you’re obligated, then rewarded with funny poo moments. priceless.
Repeat after me: Alito, Roberts, and no more…it’s the federal courts, stupid.
Why can’t we just fling our poo at McCain? He makes such a good target because it can stick to him. I repeat my mantra:
He has a son in Iraq but supports administration policies that increase rage against our troops while denying them the weapons and support they need.
He was tortured as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam, yet he just interrupted his campaign to vote in favor of torture on the Intelligence Authorization Bill.
He embellishes his “maverick” outsider status while lobbyists run his campaign and conduct their business while on his bus.
He is violating the campaign finance law that bears his name.
With such a target rich environment on that side, why waste ammunition over here?
You mean the way she made the assinine comment that McCain has experience, she has experience but Obama has a speech he made in 2002?
What I have never heard and you will never hear Clinton say is “I have experience–let me tick off the bullet points that butress and define my experience that I allege Obama does not have.”
Nice video, I spit out my juice
Yeah, too bad the issue is a few too many steps removed for the average joe to understand. But wow! we can thank Alito and Roberts for pushing the issue front and center.
Don’t forget the appellate courts, too. jumpin’ jiminy.
I’ll fling my poo, then drive to work in the slush:
{{{{ I love you all here!!! W’ell fight even harder against the GOP than we’ve argued and snarled at each other}}}}
I sincerely believe that these are growing pains, Christy. If anyone doesn’t believe that, go read some of the posts at my place about how liberals, progressives and moderates are taking over the slimiest, dirtiest fighting GOP political machine north of the Mason-Dixon line.
Dems are divided here between HRC-Obama; between old-school Dem pols who still (!!!!) embrace big oil and young progressives; between urban and rural. But we’re banding together to win it back from these outlaw, Corrupt Bastard Crooks.
All ur candidates are belong to suck!
Good morning, Christy – it’s raining plenty here in Upstate New York. And – no poo for me. I always remind myself that these people – every single one of them…WANTS to be teh president. They are not being pulled kicking and screaming to the party. They all want this. A lot. None of them is coming to the party with clean hands, or a completely pure heart or anything like that and the sooner we all realize that, the sooner we will be able to get through this, hunker down, and all band together to support the Democratic candidate – because the goal is the beat the rethugs this November. That’s the goal. Let’s all remember that.
What is worse than the “My Candidate is the 2nd Coming Your Candidate is Satan” dynamic is the stupidity of talking heads who don’t have a rat’s ass clue what the polls mean or what’s happening right now talking about x candidate having a 2nd wind or a 2nd look–the talk pulled right from their ____.
It’s worse than ditzy CNN likening the voting to a Super Bowl (because if it’s not Britney or not the Superbowl htf are Americans supposed to get their heads around it) and MSNBC’s anchor calling the Byzantine voting apportionment for delegates based on past performance of the district in Texas the “Texas Two Step.”
O/T Brett Favre retiring just on MSNBC. I’m depressed
now that thar is some pretty poo :)
Good one!
Hey ET. back atcha. I try to jump into other blogs but the energy is…different. People are pretty nice here. The listening and responding is different.
Drive safe now.
that’s base
C’mon Pete. I know you’ve got some good poo. Let it roll!
Hillary gettin the livin shit kicked out of her by the media- starting with KO.
If she loses both big states tonight, it’s all over.
If she wins both- the slog continues
If she wins Ohio and loses Texas, she’ll have some agononizing re appraisal ahead of her- and lots of help in doin it.
I’m more depressed. I went to games for a team whose coach fired him before his career got off the ground for partying and told him he’d never play for any team. He would have made Lombardi very proud.
When Starr got the call in Mississipi that he was being fired his reply was “I’m eatin’ catfish and you called me in the middle of this just to tell me I’m fired?”
The thing that gets me is, I doubt if there’s more that 10 people on FDL who haven’t already voted, don’t know how they’re going to vote, or vote too late to make a difference. So what is the intent of all the shit fights and who do they benefit?
We are Anonymous.
All your candidate are belong to suck.
to suck. to suck.
I think that’s absolutely right — Dems are, for the most part, debating the fine points of issues. The GOP is squabbling over who gets to be the Shrubbier version of Shrub, and who will then be the background Cheney-esque guru.
Ew. I know which I’d rather be.
OK, here’s my headbursting poo:
I am so sick and tired of having my intelligence insulted by this administration. That McCain is continuing the line of BS is beyond belief. Retire already! The kids are driving and have moved out of the house.
Hillary needs to get a grip on the fact that she is not entitled to a shot at the White House. She is relatively new to the election stuff, if you ask me, so stop flinging your experience at me. If you are so experienced, stop whining about rules you wrote–that’s so GOP!
Media: stop your “gee, I don’t think we’re biased” bullcrap. It’s friggin’ annoying. Own your poo.
Yeah, but Hillary has been getting her ass handed to her and she won’t go home. Instead, she’s trying to wreck the place.
For some strange reason- the closer the positions of any two candidates, the angrier the debate between supporters. Go figure!
Well, there were horrendous lines for absentee ballots in Columbus, Ohio yesterday, but when I went to my polling place this morning, there were only 2 people ahead of me.
I did what I said I would do after I met him, and voted for Edwards. I disagree with things that Clinton and Obama have said and done, however, no matter who the nominee is, I will be voting for them in November.
I am counting on a Democratic majority in both the Senate and House to ride herd on our next President.
“More and better Democrats!” is my battle-cry.
and now she’s using it to pressure them
disclaimer: am still relearning the linky thing
Greetings from The Woodlands Texas – I’m a Precinct Captain for the Obama campaign and willbe working the caucus tonight. Right now I’m holding signs and talking to voters. Most seem to have their minds made up. Lots of good responses for Obama. Turnout is light right now at my pct. However, we are getting quite a bit of Democrats voting, which is unusual because The Woodlands is a bastion of oil money – we’re just north of Houston. More later….after the caucus tonight.
The next background Cheney will be…Permanent Vice President Dick Cheney.
Repeat after me:
They are ALL politicians
They ALL have “overweening ambition” or they wouldn’t be running for president.
They ALL have surrogates/campaign staffers/family members who make incredibly stupid and/or disingeneous statements.
They ALL have voted in ways that make you scratch your head and say “What the F*CK are they thinking about with that vote.”
I pretty much have gotten out how I feel about Clinton. I guess the last thing I’d have to say is I’ve never seen more different tones in one campaign than hers. Truly she represents the best of the Joanne Woodward Movie “The Three Faces of Eve.”
It’s 3AM and your child’s asleep. And the phone rings 6 times before someone answers it. She’s cranky because Bill’s back on the Burkle plane partying with the babes. She gets word that a nuclear bomb has been launched and her reply is a screech “Shame on them.”
Clinton is from Arkansas as a wife most of her political life although she rarely admits it, and Huckabee is from Arkansas. Both of them are serving the same purpose in this primary as they continue to try to hang on even though they can’t possibly win via votes or delegates. Let’s look at the numbers right now.
If there is a pony somewhere in all this poo, I think it is that an amazing number of people really care about our country and where it is headed. They have massive amounts of energy and emotion invested in the outcome, but I truly believe that the people on the Democratic side really want what is best for our country and the people of our country. I think that focusing on this idea will be key to getting everyone to pull together once the nomination is settled.
Absolutely poo-fect, Christy.
For this thread only, fer them whut think it; ‘better out than in …’
And then, enuf!!!!
agree.
OK, I’ll get this outta my system and bug off.
It’s been painfully obvious that The Clintons and DLC Dems in general want nothing to do with traditional DemocratIC and Liberal principles since oh I dunno….1995.
They strategically pick certain votes to side with us so they can point to “Liberal scorecards,” and large percentages of fellow Dems will go on and on about, “Hey, see they’re not so bad. Better than a Repub!” Meanwhile, years later those who supported the DLC Dems wonder how things got so bad. The DLCers, of which the Clintons are leaders, exist specifically to destroy the DemocratIC Party from within.
This dynamic his literally almost drove me insane at certain points over the last 10+ years, and the blogosphere came along just in time for me keep together and see that there are a lot people that understand this.
And that’s what’s been so disturbing to me during this primary season. Fellow Liberals still fall for the DLC Kabuki Dance. Unbelievable to me that there’s so many Liberals standing up for the family that has almost single-handedly destroyed our Party.
After the TX debate, where there was simply an honest discussion of issues, and why each person thought they’d be a better Prez, I started thinking maybe I should give Hillary some credit for actually caring about the DemocratIC Party.
HA! It’s been slash and burn since then. We’ll see what happens today, but by ANY MEASURE, Obama is the candidate to create a whole new era of DemocratIC dominance. If Hillary stays in this sucking up cash and energy better saved for McCan’t, will that be enough for people to realize that she’s here to please her BigMoney stringpullers, and doesn’t give a shit about the middle class?
Sorry, Christy, but you’re wrong. Hillary is now the anti-christ.
Ture, but some are infinitely better than others.
It seemed like the sort of thread that everyone could use, frankly. Of late, the bulk of the e-mails that I’m getting fall into three categories: oppo research tips against one candidate from supporters of the other candidate; people bitching about other annoying people bitching; and people begging me to tell them when this is going to be over.
I thought we needed a laugh, and a little ventilation.
And the thing is folks all over the political map feel that THEIR candidate is the one true candidate that is “infinitely better than others.”
Which means they ALL suck in their own inimitable ways.
I thought that was Cheney. Jeebus, why didn’t anyone tell me we were working off a whole new instruction manual?
Well, I would like to say that I have great respect for all FDL participants and often remark that I haven’t noted a single person who doesn’t reveal outstanding intelligence, logic, and research in their posts and comments. It is just unfortunate that about half of you have been suffering from a temporary case of the dumb ass for about a year now.
A pox on all their carouses!!!
I know that there have been headlines posts vetting Obama, but tonight Clinton will effectively be out of the race, though she’s not going to quit until she’s dragged from it even after Pennsylvania, but there never was after the “Obama Rezko poker game distorted perception of a Present Vote “vet” of Obama a correllate “vet” of Clinton currently, and I’m sure their never will be now that I’ve mentioned it.
And by the way for any former DOJ AUSA out there let’s be very clear. In the government’s Indictment “Public Official A” was not Barack Obama, and I don’t know where anyone who formerly worked for DOJ’s PIN (Public Integrity Section) got that idea– it was clearly Pat Fitz’s ultimate target in this prosecution–it was clearly Rod Blagojevich–at least that’s what Judge Amy St. Eve says and my information is that she has a seat in the courtroom as a Whitewater prosecution alumna.
Judge reveals Blagojevich is ‘Public Official A’
I’m not sure about the laughter but the venting sure helps. A few pro Obama blog sites are hinting at rumors about the Clintons coming out. Does anyone know what’s up with that?
My candidate sucks the least! so there!
-pass the toilet paper-
I wish Hillary could see that she would do the party and HERSELF an enormous favor by putting all that energy behind Obama (however you feel about either candidate).
What if she were Secretary of Health and Welfare?
Wouldn’t that be an incredible use of her talent and passion? Why does it have to be this incredible fight to the death to grab top spot? Why is anything else just a consolation prize? Really, I teach my kids to go for it, but they need a plan B.
Your point is taken, Christy.
We are mindful of SCOTUS, the economy, healthcare, security [does not equal eternal war!], global climate change.
That’s a handful…and in our hands is our own fate.
More and better Democrats, in the WH and Congress, the State Houses and every small town/county/township we where we can elect ‘em.
LOL. I won’t ask which half.
You are so wrong!
Your candidate sucks a fair bit more than mine!
Someone please make Tucker Carlson STFU.
What does coming out mean–the last I heard of it in a campaign it was referring to the Debutante parties for Jenna Welch Bush and Tonic.
I found the source on that Clinton supporter poll. Salon.com war room march 3 by Alex Koppelman
Gosh, because we never, ever criticize Hillary Clinton or her campaign tactics. Such as in the post just prior to this one to which you commented…
I’m picturing pitchforks and torches, baby.
Why does she want to be President?
Why would we want a dynasty with Bill as VP?
No clue.
You will never hear an objective assessment from Tucker whose rich daddy funded much of the Libby support effort during this campaign season. Just as you will never hear any objective comments from Hillary Rosen who has clearly been a Clinton shill for months.
All of the people can’t be all right all of the time. I think Abraham Lincoln said that… I’ll let you be in my dream if I can be in yours,
I said that. Bob Dylan
I would but (now don’t get me wrong) but all that repetition sounds a bit like chanting which is a bit cultish and I don’t want to add any more fuel to that fire (snark)
Oh and my candidate is teh suck
There is no more stupid legal analysis on the planet that Tucker Carlson’s childish grasp of the Rezko trial or federal law either legislative or judicial in general.
correction… it’s from “madagascar”.. great choice tho!
McCain says that when he and the repubs came to power…inflation was at 10%, interest rates were at 20%, and unemployment was at 10%…and they fixed the economy.
Is this true?
Maybe, just maybe, Sen. Clinton thinks that she would make a better president than Sen. Obama…and that what she brings to the table is important in terms of pushing particular issues. You know, because she’s a politician and that’s what they do. Same with him.
Because they not only want to win, but they have policies that are important to them that they want to push.
They did fix it. They put it in the toilet.
WaitinginTexas – your comment reminded me of the Noriega race, another less than perfect Dem with an underfunded sometimes faltering campaign, but will be interested in overall Dem strength reflected in that vote
One good reason to have this over is that we can focus on Congress again and the nominee will have much clout.
he is an ass with a mouth or more simply he talks from his ass
Ackkkkkk! That’s it. OMG I’m so over the dynasty thingies. poo poo poo. poopoo.
Madagascar! Thanks — for some reason I thought it was The Wild — but you are absolutely correct. (Can you tell we watch many children’s films in Chez Smith? *g*)
Dosido says: What if she were Secretary of Health and Welfare?
*G* The Cabinet level position would be Secretary for the Department of Health and Human Services.
The term “welfare” has not been part of our name since Carter was President…
Well shit then. They all suck.
It’s just that Russ Feingold doesn’t suck as much as John Pornyn. It’s so clear now.
Off to kill myself.
Right. She thinks. But people are voting otherwise now?
Just flingin’ the poo.
Americablog hinted at something and so has Mark Kleiman at The Realty Based Community. IMO if it’s not over tonight it will get much uglier.
Think I’ll go make some spicy almonds for snacking tonight.
Ah, the succulency of them who would choose our Main Course is, all ways, food for thought, if not indigestion or worse. I don’t think I feel so good … musta been sumthin … I … eight … years is more than enuf!
Thanks for the correction B.
Is my age showing? Does this blog make me look fat?
:)
I think the current administration has proven that, while Lincoln may have been right as far as he went, you can fool enough people, long enough, to do a godawful amount of damage.
Not here — the poo flinging stays in this thread. *g*
I will be voting today in Austin, Texas for Obama.
Many pundits are saying Hillary has an advantage with, Female voters, Hispanic Voters and Elderly Voters. Some Observations from a middleaged Hispanic male:
1) The same reasons older folks are supporting Hillary are the same for older woman and Hispanics (male or female), However be aware (extreme generalization) that older folks in Texas as well as older Hispanics in Texas also distrust African Americans.
2) Also younger people (white, black, hispanic, male or female) really don’t care as much about race.
So really Hillary’s support is not woman vs males or hispanics vs. anglos. It is still older vs. younger, with many middle aged going with the taste for change that they remember from the 90’s. (No Hillary does not make people feel that Bill will be back or that she will bring good times like the 90’s back, those years are gone).
In Austin Obama had a speech that had about 20,000 people. Hillary did not even come close. The same night that Bill came to Austin (6000 showed at the UT campus – Limited space), in the nearby college town of San Marcos (30 miles south of Austin and North of San Antonio) Obama had another showing of about 20,000.
Personally, I never wanted Hillary to run (never liked her). I still believe she is the GOP’s best chance for a W by a squeaker again. Obama is my No.2 choice after Edwards, both were not establishment which is what Hillary is and is basically falling back on now B/C “I am change” has failed for her.
The most pernicious symptom of Battered Party Syndrome is amnesia.
Which explains why the Democrats insist that no matter how many times they’ve been assaulted – no matter how many times they’ve been forced to have unprotected politics with the GOP and its lobbyists – they insist that if they submit one more time, life will return to normal.
An electoral intervention, targeting Bush Dogs and GOP wolves, seems essential if the Democratic Party is ever again to deserve its name.
I’ve heard every time you fling poo at McCain, the botox in his forehead attracts it like a magnet.
Do you think her comment that is was experienced and ready, McCain is experienced and ready and all Obama has is a speech he gave in 2002 is appropriate?
Also if she is a politician why can’t she butress her claims to superior experience with any accounts of what in fact constitutes that experience and why did she put Wolfson out to lie and say Obama was on a committee that oversaw Afghanistan when the facts are that he isn’t but she’s on no less than three? Afghanistan isn’t in Europe, and that’s Obama’s sub. She sits on three subs that directly deal with troops in Afghanistan and the political and strategic efforts there although she may not realize it or remember it.
I have never heard her explain what she perceives to be her superior experience. She has 7 years in the Senate where as far as I can tell she has accomplished next to nothing except foreplay for a run for President.
No, and it is a stupid long-term strategy for short-term gain. It’s like profit-grabbing business planning write political. (No offense to people who make a profit in the careful, long-term way, and not the Enron way.)
“3AM Phone” ad:
Honestly, can you get more pathetic than that? Haven’t we had enough of the scare tactics? It doesn’t even really make sense, as CTBob eloquently pointed out in his version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99oat5t-w9w
My vote for the best home-grown video so far this season.
poo flinging politics. that’s too nice. to me it seems more like they’re wrestling in a ring that’s filled knee deep in pig shit and they’re both covered head to toe. or they backed up one of those sani hut trucks that clean out port-a-potty holding tanks and opened the lines. it’s raining shit.
Let’s everyone throw some poo at him all at once!!
Metaphorically, of course.
Would anyone agree with a theory that W has ruined negative campaigning for the next guy?
mind if I fling through . . .
Anti Christ ? if she makes one more McCain lovin’ stumble, she’s Shiva, Goddess of Death
am really impressed with the Obama ground game and what it could portend for November in conjunction w/ Chairman Dean’s 50 State strategy
I’d vote for good King Julian ! sheepishly admit I watch that damn youtube at least once a week
Oh man, that is so spot on. Gotta remember that one. Thanks!
I hope you can round up some friends that may not have been intending to go (I don’t know about registration in Texas) and get them to vote for Obama. Thanks for your input.
The prior voting record in the 2006midterms as you know is going to heavily influence the impact of the Hispanic vote in districts where it is heavy today, and in districts where the African American vote is heavy.
One reason that Bill Clinton had a sparse turnout–whether you’re for them or against them it’s always fun to see Bill in action live–is that the Clinton campaign didn’t do enough to let people in many of the small Texas towns know where and when he would be there.
Yeah, but this is liberal/progressive poo! This is just a little warm-up for the really nasty, over-the-top, stinky stuff the repugs are going to start throwing!
Great, my own private “kitchen sink”… but for just one day?
Stand back, cheap and dirty attacks loading up, a giant cloud of muck is making its way through the net to a computer near you… accompanied by ritualistic and empty cries of unfair mistreatment!
Hey! Any Nader fans here?
I don’t think the forehead is where St. John injects his Botox.
I don’t think so. Unfortunately, I think in a few months we might look back nostalgically on the poolets that are being thrown now when we get the poolapalooza released from the Republics.
Cowabunga Dude !
… as promised earlier … *g*
If ever the Democrats had a track record and voluminous ammunition for whatever the Republicans throw at us–this has to be the year. I can’t control the unfortunate prevalance of touch screen voting, but we have an over the top amount of information to use this time around against McCain and whatever that machine has to throw.
Ooh – if I can sign up my poo-flingers, that’s five more votes for the sucks’ campaign.
A poo on all their houses….
On Hillary and Arkansas-
Actually she’s from Illinois. Bill’s from Arkansas.
Given the way delegates are allocated in in the Democratic primary, by number of Democrats who voted in the subject precenct in prior elections, I don’t see how Hillary could pull off a win. The last polls I’ve seen show them almost even, but African-Americans have made up the most loyal Democratic base in all recent elections. Accordingly, precincts which are predominantly African-American should have been allocatted by far the most delegates and, if they follow the patterns of other states, will vote strongly for Obama.
Hey! Any Nader fans here?
They better not put their head up above the wall!
Dosido — if it’s any consolation, think about how old I have to be to be able to remember the Department of Health, Education and Welfare!
heh. delurking a moment because i recognise the headline. My response is that we must remember our ultimate goal, so let’s do as the chief penguin advised, “look cute ‘n’ cuddly, boys, cute ‘n’ cuddly.”
Which of the cable networks provides the best election night coverage?
Starting with the Iowa Caucus, I have been watching MSNBC. I have grown increasingly disenchanted with their election night coverage. I simply do not think KO or Tweety should be anchoring an election night newscast. I like my news straight. I would have no problem with either or both of them being assigned the role of commentator and giving their take on the election results, but I do not like their views coloring the entire proceedings.
So, where does one get the best straight coverage with varied opinions offered for flavor?
dont know if this is relevant – i’m dismayed that dem candidates have handed repugs loads of ammo to use against whoever the dem nom will be….. just soo sad to me and thus st john may slide in…..
Or wherever else she needs to say she is from to grovel for another vote.
Now you know how Deadheads felt when Jerry Garcia died.
He is to suck
I don’t want to fling any poo. no one on this blog deserves such disrespect! but, I AM TENSE TODAY. and i think we all know that this primary season is so important because we’ve all just been HORRIFIED at what the Bu$h Crime Family has done to our country, there is a definite sense of urgency to STOP IT, FIX IT, GET OUR COUNTRY BACK!
i.e. WE HAVE BEEN THOROUGHLY TERRORIZED. By our own government!
I WILL vote for which ever Democrat runs in the Generals. I HOPE it’s my candidate, but I will say: “I didn’t vote for him/her, but I hope he/she does a good job!”
The point of this is that i think WE ARE SCARED. at least i know i am. I want my country back. That is NO REASON to disrespect ANY one who is so involved and cares so deeply about this election.
peace out, and let us ALL pray this primary ends with tonight, with a clear victor, so we can get on with the formidable task of defeating the other side, lest we loose so many rights that we can’t vote another day!
Peace out, the amazing minds of FDL!
KO always plays it straight on those shows, he’s a pro.
I have to say–the NCAA and the NFL playoffs and the World Series are fun, but they don’t hold a candle to tonight for me.
Hi ndfg!
Karl’s junior staff must be relieved now that the feds have declared unconstitutional the Texas law that makes it criminal to use anatomically correct sexual aids.
on the tubes? fuh-git-about-it
Also I went with my wife to visit my in-laws in Eagle Pass Texas (on the Border of Mexico about 2.5 hrs southwest of San Antonio), this weekend. It Is a democratic stronghold that was formally part of the Bonilla Congressional regime. I think that unfortunately it is more pro-Hillary for the reasons I mentioned. While at the in-laws on Saturday they received to robocalls one from Bill and one from Hillary asking for them to vote for her. I also think that Bill made a pass through. Oboma I think really is not focusing at all on rural areas except radio and statewide ads on TV. He is going urban whihc makes sense.
If there are I think he’s on Jon Stewart tonight.
I was thinking about that when we rolled through Charlotte this weekend, they tore down the arena where I saw him the last time.
Excellent diagnosis!
I’d be careful using “Bill made a pass” that’s a minefield!
My father is a deadhead so yes I know, but somehow because it’s my pain, it is greater *g*
very hard to get excited about OB or HRC when the House folds on telecom immunity and there isnt a peep from either one of them.
do we care about finding out what BUSH did that so outraged Comey and Ashcroft that they wouldnt sign on to the reauthorization?
How can our House leadership and DEMO candidates for President NOT stand up for the rule of law.
Event the telecom companies say they dont need this immunity. It is all about covering up what BUSHCO did.
we apparently are electing monkeys who run as democrats.
Well said. I’m with you.
Besides, I already flung half a wheelbarrow full of poo this morning. In the pasture, where it belongs.
I got up early to listen to Washington Journal and hear the nutties call in and do their last song and dance for a ready audience. I went back to bed. I already heard all these stupidos. Enough already.
I keep looking up. The sky is blue. The sun is shining. My six pound Molly is sweet as ever. See, nothing has really changed.
I have to drive down to San Francisco, listening to NPR all the way, where I’ll stay for a few days and meet up with my “radical”, really very gentle, friends. We’ll ridicule the political nutties while munching on French pastries from my favorite bakery this side of Paris. From that perspective, the world will look pretty good. Then I’ll go to the old Federal Building and vigil with my Quaker friends and reality slaps every memory of the French pastries out of my head. I’m back in the fray.
Tonight, getting in on the primaries will amount to a sneak and peek between playing games with my grandkids who have no interest in a bunch of adults making fools of themselves. They keep me grounded.
Four kids, three dogs, two parents and one granny for dinner. I’m looking forward to today’s primaries.
*ndfg waves at kirk*
i think you are doing great work with your posts, don’t always have time to comment, but always read thoroughly and ponder. *ndfg applauds kirk*
Repeated talking points?
I’m sorry, but what you wish for is what Hillary banked on with this run for presidency – that we would all tire of reminding the electorate of her war enabling vote, or pointing out that she has lobbyists running her campaign, or that she plays the victim card when the chips are down.
Newer repeated talking points: She a fear mongerer. Plus, yesterday she said, “I have a lifetime of experience. JOHN MCCAIN HAS A LIFETIIME OF EXPERIENCE. Barack Obama gave a speech in 2002. So now Hillary is feeding the McCain machine with words to use against Obama!
We now see that nothing is below this woman. It’s Hillary or no one.
DROP OUT HILLARY!
…thanks Chritsty, that felt good, and it’s going to feel good anew when it’s repeated again and again as long as Hillary plans to undo the Democratic Party with her me-first campaign of destruction.
“Annoying,” right?
Well, that’s about the only thing I like about our two remaining candidates, they’ll both fight back.
Even if I hate the poo-flinging style of politics, doesn’t mean I can’t have some fun flinging at the those who fling first.
I voted this morning. In Southeastern Vermont, turnout wasn’t huge, but it wasn’t small either. About 300 people had voted by the time I got there (around 11am). Turnout was bigger when we had the chance to vote for Howard Dean :)
I’ll go along with this assessment.
*SPLAT!*
Also realize that Hispanic voters from the southwest (not Cuban) are staunchly loyal democrats. They won’t be voting for McCain. W got their vote because he was the Gov. of Texas, Went to the Tejano Music Awards and spoke some Spanish and generally kissed the Hispanic Leadership’s collective asses. That won’t happen again by any Republican. Hispanic won’t vote for the GOP unless its a HIspanic.
dinner with the family sounds like bliss indeed.
Thanks Jim. Can I borrow your pasture?????
The House is in session. Is today “sellout” day?
What’s the differenece in what Hillary and Obama say they will do about Iraq? Isn’t it about the same?

according to wapo–the House plans to fold on immunity today.

Congressional oversight office at NSA headquarters sits empty
something about lack of oversight requests from Congress
I hope it isn’t. I’ve been busy today emailing out links to raise awareness for Black Flag Week next week in Pakistan (blatant blog-whoring–click my name for more info). I was hoping I had a few days before getting back to phone calls for the House.
You can keep up with FISA scrolling down on Cbolt’s blog.
Me too.
No, I wasn’t implying they would. I was talking about this primary, where suburbs of Houston, for example, will be awarded far more delegates than suburbs of San Antonio, or McAllen. So, the precincts with the most delegates to elect, in this primary, will be African-American. Unfortunately, I’m sceptical that Texas will vote Democratic in November, regardless.
Texas closes at 7 Central/8 Eastern caucuses start at 7.15 (or after the last person in line at 7 has voted)
poo poo poo
for you poo flingers .. i hate you all, you have ruined reading the threads of all political blogs for months and months, i can hardly breathe sometimes
for you Obama people – i hate you too – i want mr constitutional lawyer to talk more more more about rights and the law and what has happened, educate people – oh and he is human
for the Hiliary people – i hate you too – you are going to have to let go of the past and bring fresh fresh fresh – oh and she is human too
for all the Democrats who didn’t see that Edwards was the one that would have gotten a sliver of the goverment back from corporate control and didn’t keep him in this thing longer to add to the conversation a bit longer
for the pundits, i hate you, you are embarassing just as much as Bush is to Americans and the world
for my self righteous senator and his staff – poo poo poo – you could be part of the solution so easily but you are fighting the wave
and just because …
for my rebpublican family
for my brotherinlaw who wants to talk about emails reporting Hiliary murdering people, how many WTF faces do you think I have?
for my sweet wonderful niece, who joined the young republicans and put all her father’s thinking on the front of t-shirts to sell … here is some poo to fertilize some independent thinking
for my father who actually said “why exactly is everyone so mad at dick chaney” and “you know, in the future people are going to think bush was a good president’ just in the past 30 days
Isn’t it sad that our political narrative has become analogous to bribery? It is extortion plain and simple. You buy the candidate of your choice and that is how it is, was and will be, unless….
What’s fun is that the press has been trying to push the Rezko story for years. Maybe Hillary needs someone who understand federal law to explain to her what the significance of the Rezko story actually is to her, Obama, and her campaign and she’d quit clinging to it as an example of the mistep that’s going to CPR her campaign that is now clearly asystolic.
i have a sister in texas. military family, repubican and born again. it’s been 20 yrs since we agreed on something. polticians are corrupt.
I FOUGHT immunity in every single way i could. my senator (SORRY senator, Salazar) has several offices in Colorado and the folks in those offices ALL KNOW ME. I can’t even articulate how I’m going to feel, think and respond if they let telecom immunity fly!
*sigh*
ANOTHER HUGE CHUNK of my freedom, my Constitution, OUT THE FRIGGIN WINDOW!
say what
Christy:
Who were you thinking of there? Is there one particular group who thinks that of their candidate? Hmm, let’s see… Think think think think think.
Last night Hillary had a televised townhall meeting on Fox Southwest Sports cable channel. Didn’t see it but on the radio ad she tried to affect a Texas drawl, (I sware I heard it), You could tell the difference because at the end the just inserted the “I’m Hillary Clinton Presidential candidate and I approved this message.” where she sounded like her usual monotone self.
She said something like in Texas everything is big so I’m going to have a big town hall meeting live and on tv on FSWS all across Texas.
I’m tired of all the…
race baiting
religion baiting/bashing
misogyny
lies
misrepresentation
hypocrisy
bull shit
in this primary race and in politics
whew. Had to get that off my chest
i’ve had the flu for almost a week but since no fever and not contagious, i dragged myself out to vote, stuck a hairband on my head…….i look beyond bad.
this is something that has been bothering me about the talk……..and you mentioned it christie—it is a LONG PROCESS…….
until Senator Clinton or Senator Obama reach the magic number of delegates to cinch the nomination, it is not a ’race over’.
i can’t ever remember being told to just throw the towel in on a tennis match because i was behind…….or don’t bother finishing a backstroke race cuz my opponent was ahead of me, what if they screw up their turn? then i win……..or don’t bother to do those last two dives, cuz you’re behind………..a lot of times it is WON in the last parts of a competition, anyone who has competed in anything can tell you that……..
quitting or pulling out before it is decided is bullshit.
this just be nice to hold everyone together crap is making me sick. not one of you would do that in your lives if you were competing for something. you compete to win.
a race is to the finish line.
this isn’t being mentioned enough.
the ’i’m entitled’ generation thinks that just because it looks like someone is winning, or that someone gave a great effort, that they have momentum, that you should ’give’ it to them…..cuz they deserve it, they participated, even though they didn’t earn it, the race isn’t over yet……but everybody gets a trophy.
nope, gotta earn it if you want to call it your prize……you stay in the race until it is decided.
a race is to the finish line-the minimum of delegates needed to lock up the nomination, and if neither of them gets that magic number, then, on to the convention……
here’s a poo fling to herald everyone on to THE FINISH line.
Mention Alpine Valley to your Dad. See how wistful he gets.
I love it!

Are we related? We must be if the ratings are down to 19 percent…
Christy,
I am so glad that someone has finally said the things you said in this blog. So-o-o-o glad. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
you have my deep sympathy about the family situation. But I must say that I loved this line
That has been my thought many a day talking to some people that are just the definition of ‘low information’ voters
hey, fling the poo.
Who flug dung? What’s the poo doo? And who (actually) is on the -hit list?
How deep is this gonna get?
Yeah, I noticed that too, when I watched her speech in the Fort Worth Stock Yards. It had a sort of old time across the clothes line tone. You would have thought her people would have told her not to try it after her earlier try at an accent. I dont’ dislike her, like some, but it was a little embarrassing.
Actually, I was thinking of every person on every side who has sent me an e-mail screaming at me for criticizing their candidate just in the last 6 months. I’ve gotten e-mails from all sides on any given post — it’s bizarre. In one day, I was a paid Obama shill, a paid Hillary shill, a mole for Karl Rove, a Dick Cheney plant, a paid RNC destroyer of the DNC, a DLC shill and a hater of ___________ (fill in the blank with every conceivable option and you have it about right).
Welcome to my world. Every fucking day as long as this primary keeps going on and on and on…and please keep the poo in this thread today. I beg you.
You are most welcome. Glad someone enjoyed it! :)
lol! you must be doing something right!
Keep up the good work :)
(((siri)))
thanks for your hard work.
Texas Has been GOP for a while Thanks to Tom “Squeezy McFeel pants” Delay and his criminal re-districting of the state. BUt I think Cornyn is going down. The Dems are putting up Rick Noriega Gulf War Vet, and congressman. Blacks and Hispanics will vote for Him not Phsyco Albino “Please Fence me in and deport the mexicans and put the blacks in jail” Cornyn.
I’ll do that. I actually got him a Deadheads for Obama t-shirt and baseball cap. (copped the logo from a supporter who freely gave it out for free) He loved it and sported it yesterday down in Miami *g*
Just like a Banana Republic. Corporate capitalism works much better in an oligarchy than a democracy.
Wow, Christy, sorry about that.
Hi Christy and pups!
No poo from here. Not a plop to spare. Saving up for next fall.
We just voted (n. e. OH), semi-rural, rapidly-growing slubburbs. Lots of old folks who ALWAYS vote. Lots of newish-comers, especially those probably up-to-their-eyeballs in debt, trying to keep up payments on their starter-castles that are so common in the burbs.
As usual, heavy turnout.
The 2 folks in front of me and my honey announced a desire for repubble ballot. All I could think of was, oh you poor thing, to have to say that publically. heh. but, then… it’s been heavily repub. here since we’ve lived here. AND lily-white wall-to-wall, sigh.
Hubby & I, and at least one of our sonnys, went Obama, but it was a struggle to decide. We all think both Hill and Barack wayyyy marvelous quality compared to ANY repubbles, irregardless of any unfortunate last-minute nasties flung on their behalf by less-than-helpful zealots.
Oh, hey! And we see some Obama signs in our blindinglywhite neighborhood.
As well as some for Clinton. Makes me smile, it does.
Stay tuned, folks.
And thanks much, Christy, for your admonitions. Well timed, if not over-due. Enthusiasm is wonderful. Hateful trickery will only come back to haunt those who hatched it. This election is too critically important to risk on cheap shots.
Go Dawgs!
OMG…me too. I miss him and I miss Elizabeth and the good, solid ideas, the passion (real) and the hard work (not that all of them don’t work hard).
keeping the poo in one pile today. good luck with that chs.
My candidate is teh awesomest since FDR punched out Adolf Tojo and Bennito Hitler at the OK Corral.
Your candidate is teh suck.
I think you and the other Ladies of the Lake have been very even handed.
And I’ve been trying to be nice whenever I talk about this (with mixed results). Some of the other commenters have gently scolded me when I’ve gotten out of line.
Eh, it’s part of the gig. It’s just usually not as vitriolic and all over the map as its been lately. *g*
AMEN!!!
That’s a very high compliment. It means you’re doing a terrific job. Keep up the good work. :D
So anyway, where was I?
Oh yeah: Obama is
All fluff no stuff
all talk no action
all show no go
all hat no cattle
My wager is that the wonderful Mod Squad will be quite happy to help Christy enforce the “poo in one pile” theme for the day.
Once again, you have it right, Chomsky’s Manufacturing Consent is a
good text on that subject, “we” do get fooled and pay hell for it.
The major Chicago news papers are staunchly conservative–and they have statements that they are on their websites, and they are clearly supportive of McCain. Further Obama told Lynn Sweet that travels with him the other night and both Chicago newspapers he’d answer any questions they could think of. Rezko is a dead horse as far as Obama, and people who think it’s helpful don’t understand the target in the prosecution is basically the Governor of Chicago and always has been.
Hillary has a large contributor to her campaign who is in a BOP medical facility right now, Norman Hsu and as far as real estate goes, I don’t hear a whole helluva lot of mention of White Water to be dissected by Howard Wolfson and Mark Penn and Maggie Williams.
I don’t hear much about who contributed the $5 million dollars for Hillary to give her campaign, the $31.5 million mining deal Bill Clinton made, the anatomy of the Burkle money for Bill, the stock deal she made on cattle futures miraculously turning a grand into one hundred grand, or the bribe that got a pardon for Mark Rich.
I also don’t hear much about why Hillary took 18 months under subpoena in a federal criminal investigation from then federal prosecutor Amy St. Eve’s White Water team when in contrast a few weeks ago the same Amy St. Eve threw Rezko in jail for not revealing all his sources of money over a matter of weeks. Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds for Amy St. Eve.
I don’t know anyone from the US Attorney’s office who issues a subpoena and waits patiently for 18 months while the target of the subpoena decides whether they’ll comply as Hillary did, and suddenly produces the documents in their dining room that has no other furniture than a table and chairs.
By the way Kerry is right, Obama has more legislative experience than Clinton and the idiot Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones is too stupid to make a phone call to get the rules of the Illinois senate explained to her and I know damn well she’s too dumb to read the New York Times.
Bill Clinton’s former White House Counsel/former D.C. Circuit Judge and former member of the Illinois Senate has explained Present Votes but Tubbs and Bill Clinton’s wife are apparently too dumb to read the explanation.
‘Present Perfec’t by Bill Clinton’s White House Counsel
“Ah don’t know anything about her Tax returns but ah think she’s the best person to elect.”
Beautiful. “Ah don’t know anything.” Classy and bright and great representation for Clinton.
OT — Hey Christy, do you know if we should be seeing Nielsen surveys when entering FDL-affiliate sites?
I just got a survey form, killed it because I wasn’t expecting it and I don’t know if it’s something that FDL was dispatching versus one of the advertisers. Thanks.
I’m voting for my party’s nominee. I also know that anyone who gets the job is going to give us at FDL the opportunity to fling more poo.
I hope it’s true, but I have a hard time believing it. While there are fewer W stickers visible here in North Texas, I just doubt that there are fewer Hillary haters, Barrack Hussein Obama pronouncers, or Limbaugh listeners. Again, I hope I’m wrong.
lol, your going to be spending all day on this thread aren’t you :)
We’ve been trying it out to get more ads, so I think that’s something that’s been ongoing for a bit. Any way to keep the servers in hamster chow, eh?
Where in the world is the misogyny in saying that Hillary Clinton is disingenous and her campaign lies every day as does she? I know you’re voting for Obama, but when will people stop construing opposing Clinton for misogyny.
Is everyone who opposes Obama full of racial hatred?
In Texas Hillary is running a radio spot that talks about Obama being selected as the chairman of the War in Afaganistan Committee, and that b/c he is running for president (He thinks it’s is more important that the country, according to the ad) he has not had one single hearing, and then Obama confirms that he was appointed beginning in ‘07 at the beginning of the campaign. Isn’t Hillary’s caller ID showing the POT on the line.
Naw it’s all yours. Got to be away from the box the rest of the day.

Obama: Don’t listen to what I say about NAFTA, it’s just campaign rhetoric. I’m just saying that to the rubes to get elected.
Pete, I didn’t accuse you of it. I’m tired of it period (in the media, society) It was in no way tied to just her. Hackles down, okay?
Well Christy, you know that you are ‘everything’ to everybody. :)
wish I could vote for this guy
Candidate: ‘Vote for me, I’m a ‘labor-loving, latte sippin’,liberal pantywaist’
Steve Novick running in Oregon’s Dem Senate Primary, he isn’t expected to win but I love how he uses their poo against them
If the shoe fits where it.
You are making me very happy today, very. I have been trying to get people to calm down and think about the courts. I even have a friend who says she will vote McCain if her candidate doesn’t get the nomination. She truly sees him as just a little less than a Democrat. Scary. Thanks again for your sane, sensible discourse.
I know from my own experience that some of what happens with Obama and Clinton is “silly season” stuff. Clinton’s reference to McCain yesterday as better prepared for POTUS than Obama is a typical one – even as an Obama supporter, I know she intended that as a reference to her “experience” theme, and not to specifically “endorse” McCain.
The result, as Christy says, is that the ridiculous comments come out of the woodwork and start poisoning the discussion. Obama does things that irritate (Rezko, anyone?) but so does Clinton. I’ll vote for either in the General, no question.
Let’s keep our eyes on the ultimate goal.
Been debunked by the Canadian gov’t yet again this morning, so let’s operate in what is a real issue.
LOL oh yeah, I’m SURE. *g* I could, however, use a clone to take care of fixing dinner this evening while I’m blogging all day. (Can you say thank you, crockpot?)
Oops: forgot the (circa 2000) EarthFirst! poo fling:
Your candidates ALL suck.
Vote Nader!
hee-hee… off to squeeze oranges – have a good apoplexy, and enjoy those conditioned responses.
Pavlov for campaign strategist!
Hillary’s done this a bunch of times. Embarrassing to watch:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..re=related
Just plain weird.
Oops, I meant “If the shoe fits wear it.” :-}
I’m not trying to deride you with the quality of your comments. I just start to skip over the clinton ones after awhile. In effect it becomes noise over substance after a while.
I heard that All hat not cattle line from Hillary. That has got to be the worst line. Seeing as she doesn’t have much to stand on except for her husband’s experience as a governor and president. The line is better suited towards W. As Former Mexican President Vicente Fox called him a windsheild cowboy, (he rather drive around in a truck than ride a horse or actually manage cattle).
Thank you, dosido. I DO believe I’ve seen YOU in a fray or two, here, as well!
:)
Let’s operate in the realm of real issues. oops typos
That’s not what I heard– do you have a link?
Hmm, Christy did not stipulate how ‘long’ this thread would be.
Acck! The Endless Thread!!
(*_-) Wink! Wink!
I wonder how Hillary Clinton was able to become Satan? I gather from reading her that she is PURE evil incarnate…I’ve even heard that when she fell behind in a political race, she said bad things about her opponents. Such evil is unbearable.
typos aren’t real issues?
my typing teacher sure thought they were
;)
ME TOO!!!!!!!!
Of course there are still alot of W’04 stickers here in North Austin Williamson County).
I pretty much missed this thread. I am so disappoonted.
You understand that ad is a complete lie. Lying and Hillary are fast friends. Or else she’s just too fucking dumb to understand committee assignments in the Senate–she’s been away for so long. Obama is Chiarman of a sub on Senate Foreign Relations that oversees European Affairs.
Afghanistan is not in Europe, and I’m positive it’s not being moved there.
Clinton is the only one of the two on subs that oversee Afghanistan affairs
Here are the 3 Committees that oversee Afghanistan on Armed Services and the one that does on Senate Foreign Relations is in fact John Kerry’s legislative sub but John Kerry is not running this year and Obama’s not on it.

Re your comment:
All words, no truth.
Pete Pierce has devoted screens and screens worth of detailed comments and links showing those statements to be laughable.
You just made me HOWL! Thanks for the laugh, and now back to work.
After Mrs BC saw that reprehensible ad, she said, “I don’t want my angry mother or her look-alike answering that phone at 3 AM.”
I said the candidate statement should have been, “I’m Hillary Clinton and I’m ashamed to admit that we released this message.”
BC
you are so right.
And you got this insight because? *g* You don’t think he would get on a horse because ………
Have you been horsebackriding with him?
Wow I am late for the poo party. CHS is swearing like a trooper, commenters are getting feisty, candidates getting trashed and we are not even at a brokered conventin yet. Will we make till then?
… perhaps better luck this time …
Cowabunga Dude ! *g*
horsies are very SMART intuitive animals, they will ride to death if asked by their owners
Both Democratic candidates have a lot of pootential in my humble opinion.
i saw a steve novick ad and loooved it, checked out his campaign positions, and sent him a donation. twenty minutes later my phone rang. steve novick, thanking me for my donation.
if not this time, he’s laying the groundwork for a next round.
Don’t worry – the content will swirl around for quite a while…
ROFL
I don’t know anything about professional politics–I just have a good time watching it–but I “believe” that if you got the best and brightest in a room, they would say that was an add that hurt her–hell maybe it got her votes I don’t really know–and it also seemed inconsistent. To me as an observer, her campaign has had many moods compressed into a small time space, but maybe that’s the nature of a campaign when the other side seems on a roll.
Yes, they’re very intuitive– they would hate W and buck him off (if he had the courage to get on one!)
im not into anymore poo flinging, cause,im spent….Obama is the better choice in my humble opinion for the DLC problem alone
Have we um.. ‘covered’ everything yet?
With all this fertilizer I expect a bumper crop come ‘harvest time’.
Just remember

Cowabunga!!!! *g
That was practically punaisian, Hugh. Good on ya!
Candidate, Candidate, have you any Poo,
Fling it now or it goes in the Loo!
Thanks for this space to be an agitated monkey…
Here’s the poo about the Clinton “thing” that keeps me awake and makes my head want to explode:
I resent the assumption by Clinton campers that – because I support Obama -I am somehow a wayward child of their cause. I was never a Clinton supporter. Never will be. I believe her lack of integrity and interest in the greater good makes her a phony democrat.
And supporting Obama is not an either/or thing. Try to imagine this my Clintonistas: If Obama had never been born, I still would not support Hillary. Is that clear enough?
So stop bugging me about how “we” all need to come together after this is all over. No “we” don’t. I was never one of you. It’s so insulting.
aw heck. why would they even waste the energy to buck. a side-step next to the manure pile would do it. ‘member teh seggg-wayyyyyyooooopsie?
I have to get back to work– it’s been fun, everyone.
GO HILLARY!!!!!!!!11!!!1
Christy, this is a brilliant idea, consider putting one up every day and direct all poo slingers of future threads to that one …
Bush called Orribe of Colombia and told him the Homeland fully supports their side of the heightening tensions with Venezuela…Great.
bravo!
You should direct that to the GOP because its them who are going to be voting for Nader this time around or Ron Paul (both equally crazy and/or narcissistic).
SOB…he wants Pukes and Dems to come together on an agreement to support Colombia.
Say NO!
Because your zeal to promote your particular candidate — who is TEH AWESOME FOR WORDS — is driving everyone else batshit crazy. Why? Repeating talking points that everyone has already seen for months and months is annoying — be they for or against a particular candidate — and…it’s just silly.
Christy, thank you for saying this.
We all owe Vicente Fox a debt of gratitude for exposing yet another fake aspect of our Dear Leader.
ahhhhhhhhhhhh SO predictable,no?
What’s wrong with your candidate? I’ll tell you what’s wrong with him/her.
Once upon a time, before St. Ronnie, patron of corporate sock puppets, traveled the land gathering every racist, bigot, misogynist, and holy rolling religious wacko into the Publican fold there was a significant overlap between the views of fiscally conservative democrats and socially liberal Republicans. After the great saint had finished his work a lot of those folk who might once have been liberal to moderate Republicans but weren’t able to crazy up enough for the new GOP ended up in our party. Now, these folk are nice enough people and we got the best of a bad bargain but there is a big downside to this realignment; The Democratic Party can’t nominate a truly progressive candidate and the Publicans can’t nominate a sane one. Thats what’s wrong with your candidate. I’m Clothodi and I approve this message even if you think I’m full of crap. So there!
I this poo thread is to celebrate the end of the PC, get all the crap out now before launching new (non-potty mouth) CHS posts with an immaculate Mac.
Yeah … Go Hillary … back to Chappaqua ! *g*
This Poo flinging might catch on … *g*
My seven-year old has quite a scatological collection already, her peer’s influence no doubt. I don’t know where else to poot the blame.
How old is your daughter?
You are most welcome. :)
Pavlov lives!
oh yes
no poo to fling. just hope it will be a great day for Dems.
I throw teh poo in W’s general direction.
I believe you (preaching to the choir) but she has a clip of Obama saying “I was appointed (or selected) in ‘07 at the beginning of this campaign so yes there have not been any oversight hearing on Afganistan that is true.”
But Like I said “Hello, the Pot is calling”
Unless you have it.
Speaking of culting and chants. Reminds me of the line of Zulu warriors on a hillside above Rork’s Drift, chanting and banging their shields in the film “Zulu.” Been trying to work up a similar routine to perform in front of our local earmark king, Bill Young. Using cardboard boxes, or maybe pots and pans, and wooden sticks, though.
his mother was a hamster, and his father smelt of elderberries….

Everyone is wondering why I’m laughing so hard at your zingers …

Go with something less obvious, like a Giant Ear and Q-tip … *g*
Uh oh. Tom Brokaw just said he’s heard that there about 50 superdelegates just waiting for the right time publicly to announce for Obama.
http://thepage.time.com/2008/0…..ck-pocket/
Bill Richardson said over the weekend that whoever has the most delegates after today is the winner, and the other person should “suspend.” Bill is obviously saying to Hillary that it’s over for her. Watch for a flood of supers to Obama in the next few days. How does Hillary staying in help the Dems again?
Ding!!
Vicente Fox invited him to his ranch and when he came he invited him to go horseback riding. W declined. He is not a real cowboy or Texas “He’s all hat and no cattle.” He just likes to cut brush so he can look like the Marlborough man without the cigarette. He has never been seen on the back of a horse even when he was governor of Texas.
now my cat Harry, poops PERFECT tootsie roll size poo..s i wanted to send them to Scooter
Ewwww.
he is TERRORIZED by horsies………true!
At this point in the campaign, Hillary does not care about her party.
i sent him a dung beetle instead…wonder if he got it…yes i live on a farm
I knew it!!!! Fake azz, but as we know real cowboys only clear brush!
He’s not even a real Texan, but no other state is willing to claim him.
Really? You know that for certain? Omniscience is such a gift…
Now, I once saw a picture of young George on his pony. He looked quite uncomfortable and was probably wishing he was back with his exploding frogs.
I’m only speculating, of course.
You have a point. I think this administration is a good example of how unfunny it can be.
oh when i think of the cast of characters in the Chump administration…i marvel at the evil…somtin to ponder
Here we go again. The ditzbrain anchor who has a pc that MSNBC bought her talking stupidly about what committe oversees Afghanistan and the Congressman too lazy to look up Senate Committes. LOL Stupidity is pandemic in the United States–that’s for sure. Nearly every talking head on MSNBC is an adult left behind as a child.
I appreciate everything you can do to bring us the “flavor” or the atmosphere from Texas today and hope some people from Ohio will soon chime in. But if she was appointed in ‘07 or whenever what the hell is her chief media spokesman from Glover Park Group who bills millions of dollars doing blaming Obama who is on the

Afghanistan is not in Europe. Afghanistan is not in the purview of Obama’s subcommittee but it is in the purview of three committees that Hillary Clinton sits on and she’s been on them I believe her entire 7 years of the Senate.
And regardless of how long she has been on them she has the responsibility for putting Howard Wolfson on ABC This Week to lie about them.
It’s par for the course that the MSNBC anchors who “love small baby bears” are too dumb to understand Senate subcommittee assignments. It’s probable that the baby bears understand Senate subcommittees better than they do.
Thank you. *splat* That was a good one.
dear peteypiercer,
i have a confession.
every time i encounter one of your multi-chapter,

uh, actually not true.

poo party, Great
I wish that my candidates were leading the fight on FISA and Torture, and the Constitution rather than campaigning. I find them irrevelant to the matters at hand. are they not Senators?
Likewise, and that’s the rub of this whole primary season for me. The Clintons and all their DLC brethren are not Dems, and in fact are purposely trying to destroy the DemocratIC Party form within in order to favor their BigMoney stringpullers. Keep us Liberals in check as it were, so we don’t get too out of line and disrupt profits. This has been in motion for about 20 years, and the actions of our Dem “leaders” over this last year are just further proof.
This is why Hillary must be stopped. We at least have a chance of overcoming Battered Party Syndrome with Obama, and certainly with the extra Blue America candidates.
He’s terrorized by his daddy too and the last seven years have been his attempt at threapy to work that out.

Haha, I linked it with you in mind, LS…thanks for humoring my linkie.
Didn’t W visit Orribe recently? I wonder if he told him to send troops to the border to provoke an incident, so the US could have the excuse to go after Chavez and his crew…
i hate to say this but…its POO thread
Pamela,Digby Churchill,HARRIMAN (Brown Brothers Harriman) (Prescott bush) got BILL Clinton elected
I try. He did say that he received many compliments on the shirt and hat. I only wish I could have gotten him tickets to the Deadheads for Obama concert they had.
oh yes!
zingers? moi?
the OJ was a bit tart this AM, but otherwise…
Yes, they are ‘not-Senators’. Excellent word, especially in light of our ‘not-Constitution’ and the general ‘policy’ of ‘not’ on the table in the other ‘not-chamber’ of ‘not-representive-democracy’ so much in evidence today. ‘Not’?
Because war is so good for our economy…and he’ll be remembered as a peacemaker.

Christy,
Thank you for the third time today. Listen to Christy people.
Well, pups – I fling my little bit of poo, drive 50 miles through Alaska slush to work, turn on the computer in Anchorage, and you’re still flinging. I hope this worked, gang.
Meanwhile, speculation is rampant here on what Frank Murkowski’s ex-chief-of-staff’s plea with the Feds yesterday means.
we’re in danger of chronic poo flinging. Call your doctor to find out if Imodium is right for this blog.
If Hillary suspends her campaign before the convention, and is close enough to Obama to be able to beat him with the Edwards’ delegates but he won’t cede them to her – might she give her delegates to Edwards and let Edwards take the nomination? Makes your brain hurt, doesn’t it? :^)
I think America really blew it by not giving the nod to Edwards. I have no confidence in any of the current candidates.
In the spirit of poo flinging, I offer this John McCain website. You keep clicking the refresh button and you get a new John McCain joke (it’s about him being old, so there is your warning)

Wow. AP flings poo at McCain for us:

This could very well be an affliction. Since I tend to have the same problem, I’ve done a bit of research into it and it appears to be an actual medical condition. (not a fan of HC, but wanted to point out that there could be a reason for this accent-adoption)

Oh my goodness that’s a funny picture. And on topic!
not so much poo as an observation
it is very curious when so-called Progressives get hung up on distractions like
shiny, smelly Red Herrings. Like the most important things in life can be
found in the pages of Ms. Manners.
Meanwhile, there are real, InfraGard-ian types (google it) who are using their
FBI issued toys to run Seligman-like smears for personal & political gain.
It happens to the little people, the civil rights people, and the freethinking people,
but it’s not important if it’s not happening to a US Atty or a Governor.
People can be smeared as “a dealer (false), a gun-owner (thought that was a right),
or BSFC,” when they are actually responding to being stalked. How long would it take
for anyone to have a meltdown if their pet went missing and they had just been told
about the same thing happening to another ‘dissident’ in the preceding weeks.
It is shocking the number of legally affiliated so-called Progressives who don’t even
do any fact checking before they agree to carry water for persons whose real agendas
aren’t even known to them. Apparently, it’s just a numbers game and the priority is
to keep the win streak alive. Never mind employers who lose background check forms
(5 minutes after being given one) and ask for a second signature, never mind those who
rifle through personnel files for fodder for the rumor mill, or those who orchestrate
wildly amusing observational activities without the consent of the observed. What’s more
is how someone can be nicked 1000 times, with the orchestrator saying, “Behold how the
hemopheliac bleeds. Must be bad genes. Must eradicate.” And the bystanders predictably
ooh and aah at the sight of blood. “Let’s nom on some of those personnel tidbits, pass the
relish.”
Since this is a match free zone, hopefully no one is too cheap to buy some eco-friendly
air freshener.
The Emperor is not only nekkid; he has completely forgotten that he is human.
“first they came for the little people and freethinkers, but the so-called progressive
were too busy having high tea and studying Chapter 4 in etiquette”
I take this thread is the last chance to “fling poo”… I read it as the last chance to espouse one candidate over another on FDL, predicated on the assumption that these primaries today will end the speculation over the delegate count…wish that would be true, but there is the possibility that this contest will go on and on.
I wish I could say that I have enjoyed this primary as an ordinary voter (after years of heated involvement as Bexar County Democratic Chair, first with Mondale, earlier with McGovern, before that with Sissy Farenthold, and before that with SA City Council “fresh air” candidates…)
But it’s been an ambivalent feeling on my part all the way through. Right now I’m switching back and forth deciding whether or not to attend my precinct convention tonight. I cast my vote for Hillary in early voting, but I’m torn whether or not to attend and sign in as Hillary tonight. Do I want to contribute to continuing this fight or do I want to deny the voices calling for her to drop out and cede to the inevitable Obama win?
I need to say that, however much I admire Clinton and believe she would be a great president, I am distressed about the “kitchen sink” strategy she has employed since the last debate. I am equally distressed about Obama’s connection to Rezko, but I guess that campaign could also counter with Whitewater.
I hate the fact that the MSM (including KO, who I once considered fair) has night after night on their loudest megaphones, worked to discredit and impugn Hillary. In fact, leading up to any actual voting, they had crowned her, seeming just to be able to knock her down. I hate the fact that arguments have turned on sexism and racism. I worry that the generational divide which has thrust Obama ahead will not falter in the general election.
For those of you who lament the “byzantine Texas primary process”, let me attempt to clear it up. The number of delegates we have is based upon turnout in the last presidential election. Votes in the primary and the precinct are divided. Ergo, delegates elected out of the precinct conventions are based on the smaller % allocated to precincts and on the participating voters signing in for their candidates at the precinct meetings.
If a precinct meeting yields more votes for one candidate over the other, the lion’s share of delegates go to that candidate. Then out of those attending that candidate’s delegates are chosen.
Being chosen as a delegate obligates that voter to attend his/her District Convention about 2 weeks later. The process continues, with the number of delegates out of the District decreasing in number. The same process/obligation on the delegate continues at the State level. Then, those delegates go to the National Convention. Yikes!
So, this election will not “settle the question”. Clinton will win some delegates and Obama will win some delegates. Just as all (or most) of the earlier states’ primaries have done.
What I would welcome on FDL is a cessation of the attacks, name calling, and general divide that seems to separate us.
Bottom line: a Democratic President this year!
If Johnny Carson was still alive, he’d gently fling a little poo in John’s direction:
JC: “John McCain is so old…”
Audience: “HOW OLD IS HE?”
JC: “He’s so old that when he….”
I never thought I’d say (type) this but, boy, do I miss Johnny.
I’m selective with what gets bold that’s not a link. I never shout–that’s uppercase. I bold links to make them easy to use.
I hope you are not correct on that, but I had a very hard time not poking the “X” by Edwards’ name this morning…
I still hold hope that he will be an active part of the new administration.
We badly need what he has to offer.
Must make travel quite interesting. Talk about picking up the ‘local’ flavor. In your case, if you do it well, it might be a ‘talent’. Good mimicry, done without malice, is an art-form in certain ‘cultures’.
If an ‘affliction’ think you it will present problems for a ‘President’ Hillary Clinton?
There are some people who might find it perplexing or embarrassing or simply confusing …
Now let’s see. Why on earth would they expect anything to go badly when they choose to fund and arm extremists and expect them to stay on our side? It’s not like that has ever happened before.
For example, Adie, when I listed the 3 subcommittes that oversee forces in Afghanistan that Clinton is on and Obama is not on, I bolded her name to underscore she is the one on them.
If you listen to the ditzbrains MSNBC uses as anchors reading from teleprompters and their pc screens, you’ll notice that they perpetuate the myth Obama was on any subcommittee that had anything to do with Afghanistan. It’s Kerry on foreign relations and Clinton on 3 on Armed Services. But the talking heads and Clinton’s campaign are lying/too stupid to know the difference. That includes poly sci major and Chief Washington correspondent for ABC George Stephanopolis.
Froomkin today notes that George Bush has so far spent 879 days of his Presidency on vacation. Perhaps a simple work to vacation ratio could be mandated for everyone.
So, based on the huge turnout, the next election will have a lot more delegates…
Well said. Although I voted differently because I wanted to put and end to it, I agree with everything you said.
I suggest that everyone wipes off their shoes before going upstairs.
Yes, time to be poolite.
Hi Christy, Hope you’re still here. At least you know it’s not just you. Everywhere I go it’s all vitriol all the time. The FDL folks have created a higher standard though, so I appreciate how wearing this must be.
I just found out I won’t be able to participate in the primary here in Texas and I’m soooo bummed. Can’t get a ride to town for love or money. *Sigh* This isn’t the first primary this has happened in for me. :(
My man John E.
I am sure throughout 2006 and into 2007. Most folks figgered’ it would be Edwards-Clinton.(I know I did). A lot of us were scratchin’ our heads about the “Obama thing” But a connection was being made on a higher energy level.
In the two times I saw both Edwards and Obama, Edwards was the most passionate. He still was unable to attain a wider connection.
Obama’s inaugural address will go down with Kennedy’s.
You certainly have a case for saying I am out of line on this occasion. But your use of bold has tightened considerably of late, for which I am grateful.
I appreciate your posts, and your input. no snark, honest.
P E A C E
Thank you Christy for a thoughtful and worthy post and I agree wholeheartedly. Tuning into other blogs and reading the hate that is posted on democratic, pregressive and liberal web sites is making me sick. My only comment on this primary ritual is “why are not all states uniform when determining the vote=delegates? I am from Florida and you must be registered in the party that you for voting for. That seems fair to me. Don’t you think much confusion & power play comes from the independent and cross-over party votes that states allow?
Audrey — have you tried phoning a local campaign HQ or your local Dem party folks? A lot of the time, they have arrangements made to give folks rides to the polls, the campaigns especially.
I appreciate your long rich experience and your contributions to the political process over the years. You must have learned a lot. I wonder though how a political veteran like you says
Specifically what about Rezko distresses you? Do you know the case and the history?
You would not have heard the word Rezko if there weren’t a trial in the middle of voir doire right now whose purpose is to target and try to figure out how Pat Fitz can indict the democraticgovernor of Illinois.
And I know everyone has learned to say and spell the name Rezko. Even Chris Jansen the ditz on MSNBC who keeps saying Obama is on a subcommittee on Afghanistan when he is not, and Clinton is in fact on three of them.
Can you deliniate what about Tony Rezko distresses you in connection with this primary?
Also there are dozens of things people can bring up as to the Clintons that are current–the $5 million bucks, the $31.5 mining deal that her husband just swung; the connections with Ron Burkle she refuses to talk about, the Clinton Library contributions she won’t release; her tax returns–Obama has released them and she has not and won’t until well after she is out of the race; her secret 1.6 million health care documents and other White House documents she disigenously says she can’t control when she absolutely could release them.
I think you’re sharp to point out her kitchen sink strategy. It’s what she’s always been–she’ll say whatever she thinks will get her elected, whether it is true or not.
If you’re in the Senate, you damn well have a responsibility not to put on commercials as she is in Texas this minute lying and saying Obama did not hold meetings on Afghanistan when she’s the only one of the two on any subcommittee that overssees affairs with Afghanistan. You don’t send your media guru Howard Wolfson onto morning talk shows lying to the public on the same issue, and if you turn on the TV you’ll notice ditz brains on every channel repeating the fiction that Obama has membership or is the Chairman of any sub that overseees affairs in Afghanistan.
Yes, especially as regards dis-cussion of poolitical matters and public poolicy generally!
I don’t think the ditzbrains of the corporate media want Obama to win the nomination– they know he will be steamrolled by McCain and they want a close election. You know, for ratings and ad dollars.
I don’t think you’re ever out of line Adie. The feedback is good. If I was overusing bold, I have tried to tighten it up but think because the print is so small on this site to me (nothing stops me from dialing it up though by tweaking IE or just hitting the percent in the lower part of the IE7 window) that it helps on hyperlinks.
Yes, I’ve noticed. and it makes me livid also.
MSM are not just careless. They are dishonest and flagrantly biased over and over.
Tweetie acts as if he’s fully aware and thinks it’s a hoot.
Timmeh seems to think he can successfully pretend to be both clueless and honorable, even while lying through his teeth.
David Brooks is the very definition of a wolf in sheep’s clothing, and others on Lehrer have yet to pin him down & smack him for it.

I agree with you on a lot.
Just have to adapt to your style. I’ll get there. ;->

You can’t be serious. Obama tracks much better than Clinton versus McCain in every poll.
If the Democrats can’t beat McCain given the damage Bush and his Republican scmucks and scmuckesses have done in the house and the Senate, they should dissolve the party.
Which Obama hasn’t. In fact, I can’t remember hearing him bring up anything at all like that, and there’s plenty of red meat for him, but he is in fact ushering in a new kind of politics. The closest thing Obama might’ve done in this regard was the “sitting on the board of Wal-mart” comment during a debate. But this was a simple statement of fact used to defend his “experience” which has been a consistent critique, and to show how their “experience” differs (”I was on the streets of Chicago when you were on the board of Wal-mart…”).
So if you want to end the sniping and name calling, why are you bringing up the Rezko stuff? This has been so vetted and it’s been completely clear to this point that Obama did nothing wrong.
Obama and his supporters (for the most part) deserve a lot of credit for not stooping to the Clinton’s level. They are truly trying to change our political landscape, and are having success at it so far. I hope they can keep it up.
i really find poo flingers more or less contemptible. i don’t remember attacking any candidates, at least on the Democratic side, but i have attacked more than one poo flinger at this site and a few other sites.
add my voice to the ones above who’ve said that they miss John Edwards in this race. Amen to that sentiment.
and this has been a drive by, bedtime for fahr. carry on, pilgrims!
Ah, Pete, I bow to your superior knowledge about Rezko… but you must know that code words for potential scandals (I count Whitewater here, too) carry weight in the very juvenile and inadequate public discourse. On Rezko, let’s just say the odor of personal gain stands out. Remeber I said the media had crowned Hillary to knock her down? Well, they elevated Obama as the pure, untainted public servant. All the better to knock him down.
I reserve my opinion when I do know all the facts. That doesn’t mean I cannot be distressed about it now.
Pax et bonum
I get variable results with wayback machine and its clones. Sometimes it does wonders, but often many of the links it puts up for you go nowhere. I’m always interested if someone knows the best way to use it–maybe I’m not getting out of it what I should.

Thanks Christy, our local contact person is not at his phone. The Party is in really bad shape here. (Very disorganized.) I’m still trying though…but since it’s happened before, I’m not hopeful. GAWD!! I only miss having a car about 50 times a day as it is. It’s so isolated out this way and everyone I used to know is dead or moved away. I’ll keep trying because I must. Oh well, if I keep complaining here, I can’t use my phone. That won’t get ‘er done.
Peaceful fest, fahr.
I’m sorry. We may have the votes, but Diebold & Company still count the votes. We’re watching the death of our republic. The Great Experiment has failed.
‘rest’ not ‘fest’ gadzooks!!!
Obama polls well against McCain now, but believe me that will change if he wins the nomination. Most people haven’t been paying attention yet. And when the Republic attack machine starts slapping him around like a punching bag, I mean, he’s never seen anything like that.
Hillary would be much stronger against the right wing Wurlitzer– she’s withstood it for years.
*snort!?!*
In a word, NO! “We” won’t let that happen. The Democratic Candidate won’t let that happen! You think these people just blundered into campaigning by accident?
I’m gonna give them more credit than that.
I predict StCain, on the other hand, will blither and dither his campaign into the nearest brick wall…
Hey! Did Cindy loosen her hair into a flounce recently? Now there’s a bold campaign move for ya?!
Live Free! Or Diebold …
Me, too. Next week’s pooflingery should be fun! *g*
Marily when I ask a question, it’s hardly fair to project or ascribe “superior knowledge” or an attitude of condescension to me that I don’t have.
But when someone says to me “Clinton is more experienced” it’s logical for me to say show me how.
When someone says Rezko has an odor–I watched LHP who has outstanding experience and a terrific ability to analyze put up a post that was based on “odor” rather than the facts I would have expected from soemone who worked in the PIN (Public Integrity Section) at DOJ.
Saying Rezko has an odor that you are implying implicates Obama is like Tucker Carlson’s mention of Rezko when he doesn’t know jack about the situation and couldn’t supply answers if he were questioned.
I follow Rezko’s prosecution pretty closely, and if you can show me how Obama is implicated in it or what more people would point out any wrong doing that’s not indictable (and you can indict anything and anyone if you’ve got a grand jury–I’ve seen plenty of examples of that) I’d like to see you point it out.
Obama didn’t use dirty money to buy a house. Had he exercised good judgement, he would have steered clear of Rezko once he knew Rezko was under investigation –not necessarily if he had done the deal apart from the political process–because what he did with Rezko was hardly illegal or even sleazy as it’s been portrayed but because if you’re running for office, and someone is under investigation, it is a bad choice.
Had he done a deal where Rezko helped him buy that house that’s now been put all over the media (great for security for his family in a town where a federal judge’s husband was shot to death in 2007 by someone who was crazy)with illegal money that would have been wrong as well. That’s not what happened.
And the poker games he played that LHP cited were given a ridiculous spin by her. He played poker to try to get some of his legislation passed.
Also mentioned on her blog were the Present Votes because she didn’t drill the Illinois Senate Rules and understand what the present votes context were.
So when I ask a question about how Rezko distresses you in Obama’s run for the Presidency, I think it’s a fair question–it’s not done with a scintilla of condescension or “superiority”
What I don’t understand about FDL and other blogs is that people have no compunction about bringing up a topic, but when you want to get deeper into it or ask them what it means to them they think you’re Hillary bashing or not being constructive.
Hell if somoene brings up Rezko, they should expect someone to ask them to be precise as to what they mean. Just tossing his name around is not enough. That’s smear politics. You’ve seen years of campaigns and have a wonderful background so I know you know what that is.
Guess that’s why she is so familiar and comfortable using some of their tactics, huh?
That was my big fling of poo
Audrey where is your town? I’ll try to help you get a ride. I’m not in Texas but I bet I can do it.
call the campaign office of the candidate you are supporting. they may well get you a ride.
You all DO know Diebold is the target of a hostile takeover attempt right this very minute, don’t you?
Who, you say?
Not to worry. It’s only that harmless little old mom & pop company, United Technologies.
Pour a strong one and gargle ‘em.

This is not good news.
I also didn’t understand your reference to Kennedy. Maybe you can explain it to me.
I’m sorry you misperceive Obama’s ability to campaign against McCain. I’ll enjoy seeing you eat your words soon, and be quick to remind you and link you to where you said them.
Now that we are so deep in EPUland, I have to comment regarding RoyalOak @343 and the southern accent Mrs. Clinton sometimes uses –
My brother and I share the accent affliction. Neither of us has lived in the south recently, but when we go there to visit relatives, we pick up the local sound. My bro’ has been accused (in a written complaint to his employer) of being a Yankee doing a mockery of the South. Yeah, some Yankee – our parents were born in GA and all our ancestors go back in the south to well before the American Revolution. Both of us lived in the South throughout our childhoods.
The thing is, the bro’ and I both have spent years living in the non-south. After college, we’ve lived all over the US and learned that allowing others to judge us by how we sound is not to our advantage. We have both worked hard to NOT sound Southern in our daily communications. But when we visit the South and are surrounded by such familiar sounds as a Southern drawl evokes, we unconsciously fall into it ourselves. Emphasis on the “UNconsciously.”
I’m not fond of Mrs. Clinton, but this “Southern drawl” issue is one area where I have to give her a pass. The years she spent in Arkansas certainly gave her plenty of time to develop an familiarity with Southern sounds.
Yes. And Adie who is to blame for the touch screens or the stupid configuration of the Democratic primary versus rotating regional elections? It’s the apathetic people of the US–the same people who are allowing Congress to run the FISA legislation into the ground.
You will have plenty of time to apologize to me later, when it becomse apparent what kind of person Obama really is, and I promise I will be magnanimous.
I voted in Ohio right after the polls opened at 6:30 AM; it wasn’t crowded at all and I got through it immediately. That is, after I made a trip back to my car to grab my driver’s license to prove I wasn’t engaged in the dreaded Voter Fraud.
If we were in the same area, I’d bet you a case of whatever it is you drink if you do.
Jeez Adie, thangs jus’ get better and better. Don’t they?
Oh poo! such a nice group of people these ‘new’ massas shall be.
As the great ‘pappy Boosh’ done put it, we is in ‘deep doo-doo’ fer sure.
What continues to puzzle me with everyone that says the Republicans will crush a democratic candidate is how they can ignore what’s gone on the last seven years. On whatever level, there are enough people who are repulsed by it to withstand the usual Republican bullshit. And that’s what it will be.
Thanks for the offers. Pete, someone has given me some leads via email. I’m hunting them down now. But I can’t be here and use the phone. Wish me luck. :)
I appreciate all you just said. But what Hillary was doing in that commercial if you listen to it is not what you’re explaining. I know what she sounds like. I’ve been listening to her for years, and will be glad to see less of her face on the TV after tonight although I know she’s going to keep running in her own mind past January 20, 2009. Her affectation is not the way she sounds, and she did not pick it up barnstorming Texas in the last few weeks. She was in Ohio just as much of the time anyway.
Good luck. Don’t give up. You’ll get there.
yes, no, and ouch!
i stay semi-sane by trying to be realistic about the behavior and qualities required to be a good candidate, versus those required to be a sterling officeholder.
in the meantime, i find it counterproductive to hold my breath for months at a time, but the effort of waiting and working for change during campaign season nevertheless produces similar levels of stress.
would that we could just close our eyes and click our heels….
hang in there. and please DON’t you DARE give up. please? ;->
Diebold is fighting it. Is that good news? I haven’t a clue.
tell me sumpthin i don’t know!
why u think i bring it up in the poo thread?! eh?
Genuine ‘good news’ would require the end of non-paper-trail voting- machines and a Supreme Court which understands its proper role in elections (among a raft of ‘other’ election ‘improvements’). We shall see.
Really though, I should like to see the motto on our coinage read: ‘Its Up To Us’, just as a reminder.
Interesting days (daze) ahead.
This post is so refreshing. Feels like a good shower. Yeah, I voted for Obama. But many Obama (and Clinton) supporters are losing all sense of proportion as they defend their candidates. These people are uh . . . fallible. And they’re freakin’ politicians. Actually, I’m still waiting for Obama to reverse his position on Blackwater (which he will not rule out using in Iraq, if elected); Hillary Clinton made the right choice in response to Jeremy Scahill’s piece in The Nation, and I hope that Obama follows suit, political motivations notwithstanding.
never. give. up.
This is one bet I would be glad to lose, but I don’t think I will.
What part of post-partisan centrist “Reagan was awesome” don’t you understand?
Oh yeah, and I keep forgetting to bring up the fact that Obama appeared with known gay-hater Rev. Donnie McClurkin, even after everyone was yelling about it before it happened.
Tell me, Pete, is homophobia acceptable to you?
PS– I drink Labatt’s Nordic, a non-alcoholic beer :-)
Yeah, Pete AT 404,
I don’t sound southern (or hillbilly, either) to all my friends I’ve known for the thirty-plus years since I left the South. And those current friends have been listening to me speak for years.
Yet when I’ve had to return to take care of my mother, who now lives in Appalachia, I start sounding like her neighbors.
I don’t start sounding like my teenage self (I have audio tapes of myself) when I had a legitimate urban Southern drawl. Instead, I start sounding like her neighbors. Truly cannot help it.
When I telephone my friends after I’ve been around her neighbors, my own friends don’t recognize my sound. Believe me, this is NOT something I try to do, it just happens.
And my the way, my brother’s employer actually DID discipline him for the supposed mockery of the South when he welcomed his passengers to Atlanta – HIS HOMETOWN for the first 21 years of his life. A Georgian on the trip was so offended by my bro’s “false twang” that he complained to the company.
Affectation? Not always.
I’m not defending Mrs. Clinton – only pointing out that in many situations, there can be more than one explanation for perceived behaviors.
And I agree, I’ll be plenty glad to see less of her, if that is what happens after today.
Thanks to CHS for providing a Port-O-Let. Here’s my contribution. I’m tired of baby boomers, and I am one. A new generation for a newish century! Go Obama.
I hope you live near PetePierce– the two of you are going to need some company to drown you sorrows tonight when the results start coming in!
:-)
Unlike you, I sling my poo at the candidates themselves, not their supporters
Have a good one
Piffle!
Puffle!
Poofle!
Does yer candidate wiffle, wuffle or woofle?
Can we take much more giffle, guffle or goofle?
Whom may we trust to tell us all the triffle, truffle or troofle?
Ah! Whut’s the the diffle, duffle or doofle?
Now, everbody’s feathers is riffled, ruffled and roofled.
Eniffle! Enuffle! Enoofle!
“If the Democrats can’t beat McCain given the damage Bush and his Republican scmucks and scmuckesses have done in the house and the Senate, they should dissolve the party.“
I have made this very point for weeks now. There is no excuse for not winning the White House in November.
None.
I went to vote around 8:30 this morning, it was busier than usual but no lines. The weather is getting worse–freezing rain– but nothing that should greatly affect turnout in the Cleveland area.
I wish I could remember where I saw the “Nobody cares who you vote for” item. Maybe over at dKoz? I bookmarked it at home to use next time someone pontificates on the topic of who THEY will vote for. Unfortunately, bookmarked at home and not on the work computer.
Oh well. The thought is there.
Great thread! Hope the poo stays here.
Actually, Obama’s positions on gay rights are a bit more progressive than you suggest. He supports civil unions rather than gay marriage (I that think he’s wrong here and should support gay marriage as well). However, he also promised to repeal the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, created by Republicans to prevent the federal government from recognizing gay marriages in various states that allow them. Who signed the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act? Oh yeah. Bill Clinton (he of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell). So here again we encounter the problem with completely trashing a candidate (or throwing out the baby with the bathwater – my favorite idiom): it chases us away from discussions we ought to have about this subject (such as gay marriage versus civil unions, Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, etc.).
glad to hear you unconsciously pick up accents that way. i’ve always done it too and have also sometimes gotten in trouble for it.
If the foo shits
Wear it.
LOL!
I haven’t read a single comment but I thought I would help the Mods with the clean up.

thanks
it was getting pretty deep
Just returned from voting in Universal City Texas. The turn out is running in favor of Democrates about three to one. Does my heart good to see the Repugs disappear.
[and Christy @ 212]:
I got one and answered the hell out of it, trying to impress them with what an attractive customer comes to FDL. Hope that helps!!
Pete, I believe I owe you a courtesy of a reply to your comments here and at #367.
First, my observation on your superior knowledge (of the Rezko facts) was not meant to be condescending. I do not write snark. It was a reference to the fact that you always seem to have additional information in any of your comments, which I admire. And sometimes links. Your mention that Pat Fitz was prepping for an effort to get at the Governor of Illinois through the Rezko trial was a surprise to me. I would love to be referred to the source of that information.
As to your request that I delineate what distresses me about Obama and the Rezko connection, let me say that all of my comment at #350 had to do with what could transpire in the general election, i.e., how McCain and company would attack Obama (if he is our nominee) on this matter.
I believe I was even handed in my comments with my concerns about both our candidates. Again, this concern has everything to do about how either Clinton or Obama might be met with “smear”.
Further, I recall your noting in one of your comments in one of the previous threads (am I right?) that you are an English major. Quell chance! Well, I am also and have taught English and literature many years in local high schools. Then you no doubt know of the literary usage of words, phrases, or abreviated mentions that evoke a whole set of ideas, shadings, and history…used as brevity in composition instead of a litany of information. That was what I was trying to do with the words “Rezko” and “Whitewater”.
As to my not hearing the name Rezko before today’s voir dire, no. Since I do not read right wing blogs, the only source likely for me was on one of our sites: FDL, TPM, Daily Kos, etc. Certainly, not the TV MSM.
I hope this reply clears up any confusion about my words. I do not want to be drawn into any “my candidate is better than your candidate” discourse, even though this is the Poo Thread. Bonkers also replied to my comment with what I would have to say was an Obama commercial. OK, he supports Obama, as you do, apparently. I honor you both.
Bottom line, we have two flawed candidates. Two human beings, which by definition are flawed. Therefore, the dilemna. I think I’ll go to the precinct convention and sign in as a Hillary supporter.
Thanks for the opportunity to dialogue with you.
I hope Senator Clinton can be that graceful in bowing out:)
