Which leads me to the YouTube: the snipy, nasty, backstabbing idiocy that has taken over a certain segment of the comments of every political blog in the form of "my candidate is Jesus and yours is Satan." It has to stop. Truly.
Because your zeal to promote your particular candidate -- who is TEH AWESOME FOR WORDS -- is driving everyone else batshit crazy. Why? Repeating talking points that everyone has already seen for months and months is annoying -- be they for or against a particular candidate -- and...it's just silly.
As in KLo still mourning over the loss of the daily Mitt hair-do report and teh awesome suit and how his tie color brings out his eyes and dazzling pearly white smile and... just silly.
Here's a clue for everyone engaging in the ritual primary poo flinging with gusto: these people are politicians. Your candidate is not the second coming (or the first, depending to what religion you may or may not adhere). Your candidate is, first and foremost, interested in doing whatever it takes to get elected. Period. Regardless of party.
Because this is...wait for it...a political process. And a lengthy primary is nothing new. So suck it up, people.
But if you cannot help yourself. If getting that last jab in is beyond your control. If you must rebut that last nagging nitpick from two days ago or your brain will explode. If you must share the welling up of your heart for this really important tangential reason that keeps you up at night (and why does this sound like a faculty party fight about the importance of a 16th century Spanish literature folk tale to all of Western civilization as we know it?)...then this is the thread for you.
Fling your poo. But keep it here.
Don't drag it around, because we are going to be up late and trying to parse out a lot of information, and would like to do so without having to moderate poo-flinging personal insults and invective. For one thing, it tears at the community we have worked hard to build here over the last few years. And that messes with our long-term effort to elect more and better Democrats. It's been a long primary, which may not be over even after all the votes are tallied today, and no one wants to spend the day wearing hip waders.
So, if you have any poo, fling it now...
John Harwood lays out the timing for poll closure:
Vermont -- 7 pm ET
Ohio -- 7:30 pm ET
Rhode Island -- 9 pm ET
Texas -- 9 pm ET to determine 2/3 of the delegates, with an evening caucus to follow to determine the other 1/3 delegate allocation.
Independents can vote in all four primaries today -- and the earliest returns in from Texas are worth watching closely, as Harwood says, because they could foretell overall campaign strength for Dem candidates. Same goes for Ohio, but more as a weathervane for McCain's ability to pull in anyone beyond the kool-aidy GOP voters. Lots to watch today, including the weather and voter turn-out.
(Oh, and your favorite candidate still sucks. If you can't laugh, then you are taking things a little too seriously. Huge H/T to Mr. ReddHedd who reminded me of this scene.)

Mr. Reddhedd ! most excellent
Christy, what’s the analysis of how all those independents and cross-overs voting in the Dem primaries will break?
Will they go for Obama because they prefer him?
Will Repubs cross over & vote for Hillary because they know she’s easier to beat [and Rush told them to do so]?
Thoughts?
I was watching a re-run of Letterman last night and he had a clip of Edwards during his “Know your current events” segment. It made me realize that I really, really, really miss John Edwards.
This little video clip cracks me up. Enjoy, everyone…
But what’s the scene from?
I am excited about the 50 state strategy and the progress being made. I think this is more important over the long haulo thhan anything else.
PS Christy - raining here - no dachshunds want to go out and get wet. Bet PJ is all curled up somewhere warm.
And in the “poo” department:
I’m a Yellow Dog Democrat. Thus it revolts me to see the partisan attacks Hillary is leveling @ Obama, all for her own success.
Are there so few of us out there — we who care for the Democratic party and the principles it used to espouse — who are turned off by Clinton’s antics and would never vote for her, or are we all Obama supporters anyway?
I’ve seen analysis on that issue that is all over the map. I think the dynamic this year is so fluid, it’s impossible to really make an accurate prediction. Which is why watching this unfold over the course of the day is going to be fascinating!
Sorry, I’m all pooed out.
BTW, Thank you FDL for being sane in an insane world.
CHS:
This post seems designed to provoke. Picture me screeching and gnashing my teeth (Obama! Obama! Obama!). I’m all out of poo, though.
Good Morning Christy,
Good post and you are correct. A lot of stuff has been said yesterday and today so far. It’s pretty sad when we are fighting amonst ourselves. We need to stay united no matter whose candidate takes the next four states.
I guess it depends on who you ask.
Wait. What? People making up their own minds? People voting? People deciding? Huh?
It’s from “The Wild.” It’s a so-so cartoon, but the monkeys are freaking hilarious throughout…
What a great summary of the arguments lately!
Get it all out and be done with it. After this, the place is gonna get hosed down like a dive bar after closing* and NO poo flinging will be tolerated. We’re adults and can act like it. Even if we don’t want to. :)
(I’m not comparing FDL to a dive bar in any way. Just being funny.)
Even though she is not my candidate, I have to say I feel very good about any woman, particularly the grandmothers and great grandmothers and oldest women voters who are taking great pleasure voting for Hillary Clinton. I wish they weren’t but I sure applaud what they have bravely lived through over the years in terms of opportunity and glass ceilings.
I live in what would I suppose be categorized as a very politically “active and aware” neighborhood. We have large Hillary signs up all over the place as well as bumper stickers. More than one woman has said to me and a couple men on the street who have a reasonably good command of the issues “Look here’s what it comes down to for me. I think she has the qualifications and more importantly it is way overdue for a woman to be President. I don’t know when of if a woman will have the chance soon. That clinches my vote. I understand and respect that.
Christy - Is WV gonna be relevant this primary season?? Prediction please.
Think of it as “the dump” thread for today. Because I honestly cannot take thread after thread of poo-flinging today. I have really had it. So be forewarned people — if you have poo-flinging to do today, confine it to this thread for all of our sakes.
Another reason not to fling too much poo is that if Hillary wins (perish the thought!) we’ll have to seriously get behind her (Ugh!)
No poo from over here. I voted and that is that. I sent money to Edwards and that is that too! Just going to wait and see who comes out ahead and whoever that happens to be I will support because he or she is a Democrat. Thanks for the reminder that this is, in fact, a political process and that all the players are politicians. It will be interesting. I don’t expect anything more than some intelligence and thoughtfulness in White House. If we can get that after the Shrub’s reign then that will be quite enough thank you.
Remember folks, this is what we are up against:
From Media Matters:
On The O’Reilly Factor, referring to a photograph of Sen. Barack Obama dressed in traditional Somali clothing, Rush Limbaugh said, “I think that Michelle Obama is seething over the attacks that the Clintons have made against her husband with that photo with, you know, Obama looking like Ayman [al-]Zawahiri, all of this talk about his middle name and so forth.” Limbaugh added that Michelle Obama responded “with a womb-to-womb frontal attack on Hillary Clinton.” In fact, Sen. Hillary Clinton has denied any knowledge of the photo’s release
I’ve got a cat who sometimes flings poo out of the litter box. Can she play too?
Thanks, Christy, for trying to bring some sanity to the party.
Wouldn’t that be fun for once? But, alas, I think we’ll be a bridesmaid yet again…
lol, love the clip
The video is a good chuckle!
I love kids’ movies. They are fall-down heehaw funny and I used to feel sorry for people without kids who don’t take time to watch them. If you have kids you’re obligated, then rewarded with funny poo moments. priceless.
Repeat after me: Alito, Roberts, and no more…it’s the federal courts, stupid.
Why can’t we just fling our poo at McCain? He makes such a good target because it can stick to him. I repeat my mantra:
He has a son in Iraq but supports administration policies that increase rage against our troops while denying them the weapons and support they need.
He was tortured as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam, yet he just interrupted his campaign to vote in favor of torture on the Intelligence Authorization Bill.
He embellishes his “maverick” outsider status while lobbyists run his campaign and conduct their business while on his bus.
He is violating the campaign finance law that bears his name.
With such a target rich environment on that side, why waste ammunition over here?
You mean the way she made the assinine comment that McCain has experience, she has experience but Obama has a speech he made in 2002?
What I have never heard and you will never hear Clinton say is “I have experience–let me tick off the bullet points that butress and define my experience that I allege Obama does not have.”
Nice video, I spit out my juice
Yeah, too bad the issue is a few too many steps removed for the average joe to understand. But wow! we can thank Alito and Roberts for pushing the issue front and center.
Don’t forget the appellate courts, too. jumpin’ jiminy.
I’ll fling my poo, then drive to work in the slush:
{{{{ I love you all here!!! W’ell fight even harder against the GOP than we’ve argued and snarled at each other}}}}
I sincerely believe that these are growing pains, Christy. If anyone doesn’t believe that, go read some of the posts at my place about how liberals, progressives and moderates are taking over the slimiest, dirtiest fighting GOP political machine north of the Mason-Dixon line.
Dems are divided here between HRC-Obama; between old-school Dem pols who still (!!!!) embrace big oil and young progressives; between urban and rural. But we’re banding together to win it back from these outlaw, Corrupt Bastard Crooks.
All ur candidates are belong to suck!
Good morning, Christy - it’s raining plenty here in Upstate New York. And - no poo for me. I always remind myself that these people - every single one of them…WANTS to be teh president. They are not being pulled kicking and screaming to the party. They all want this. A lot. None of them is coming to the party with clean hands, or a completely pure heart or anything like that and the sooner we all realize that, the sooner we will be able to get through this, hunker down, and all band together to support the Democratic candidate - because the goal is the beat the rethugs this November. That’s the goal. Let’s all remember that.
What is worse than the “My Candidate is the 2nd Coming Your Candidate is Satan” dynamic is the stupidity of talking heads who don’t have a rat’s ass clue what the polls mean or what’s happening right now talking about x candidate having a 2nd wind or a 2nd look–the talk pulled right from their ____.
It’s worse than ditzy CNN likening the voting to a Super Bowl (because if it’s not Britney or not the Superbowl htf are Americans supposed to get their heads around it) and MSNBC’s anchor calling the Byzantine voting apportionment for delegates based on past performance of the district in Texas the “Texas Two Step.”
O/T Brett Favre retiring just on MSNBC. I’m depressed
now that thar is some pretty poo :)
Good one!
Hey ET. back atcha. I try to jump into other blogs but the energy is…different. People are pretty nice here. The listening and responding is different.
Drive safe now.
that’s base
C’mon Pete. I know you’ve got some good poo. Let it roll!
Hillary gettin the livin shit kicked out of her by the media- starting with KO.
If she loses both big states tonight, it’s all over.
If she wins both- the slog continues
If she wins Ohio and loses Texas, she’ll have some agononizing re appraisal ahead of her- and lots of help in doin it.
I’m more depressed. I went to games for a team whose coach fired him before his career got off the ground for partying and told him he’d never play for any team. He would have made Lombardi very proud.
When Starr got the call in Mississipi that he was being fired his reply was “I’m eatin’ catfish and you called me in the middle of this just to tell me I’m fired?”
The thing that gets me is, I doubt if there’s more that 10 people on FDL who haven’t already voted, don’t know how they’re going to vote, or vote too late to make a difference. So what is the intent of all the shit fights and who do they benefit?
We are Anonymous.
All your candidate are belong to suck.
to suck. to suck.
I think that’s absolutely right — Dems are, for the most part, debating the fine points of issues. The GOP is squabbling over who gets to be the Shrubbier version of Shrub, and who will then be the background Cheney-esque guru.
Ew. I know which I’d rather be.
OK, here’s my headbursting poo:
I am so sick and tired of having my intelligence insulted by this administration. That McCain is continuing the line of BS is beyond belief. Retire already! The kids are driving and have moved out of the house.
Hillary needs to get a grip on the fact that she is not entitled to a shot at the White House. She is relatively new to the election stuff, if you ask me, so stop flinging your experience at me. If you are so experienced, stop whining about rules you wrote–that’s so GOP!
Media: stop your “gee, I don’t think we’re biased” bullcrap. It’s friggin’ annoying. Own your poo.
Yeah, but Hillary has been getting her ass handed to her and she won’t go home. Instead, she’s trying to wreck the place.
For some strange reason- the closer the positions of any two candidates, the angrier the debate between supporters. Go figure!
Well, there were horrendous lines for absentee ballots in Columbus, Ohio yesterday, but when I went to my polling place this morning, there were only 2 people ahead of me.
I did what I said I would do after I met him, and voted for Edwards. I disagree with things that Clinton and Obama have said and done, however, no matter who the nominee is, I will be voting for them in November.
I am counting on a Democratic majority in both the Senate and House to ride herd on our next President.
“More and better Democrats!” is my battle-cry.
and now she’s using it to pressure them
disclaimer: am still relearning the linky thing
Greetings from The Woodlands Texas - I’m a Precinct Captain for the Obama campaign and willbe working the caucus tonight. Right now I’m holding signs and talking to voters. Most seem to have their minds made up. Lots of good responses for Obama. Turnout is light right now at my pct. However, we are getting quite a bit of Democrats voting, which is unusual because The Woodlands is a bastion of oil money - we’re just north of Houston. More later….after the caucus tonight.
The next background Cheney will be…Permanent Vice President Dick Cheney.
Repeat after me:
They are ALL politicians
They ALL have “overweening ambition” or they wouldn’t be running for president.
They ALL have surrogates/campaign staffers/family members who make incredibly stupid and/or disingeneous statements.
They ALL have voted in ways that make you scratch your head and say “What the F*CK are they thinking about with that vote.”
I pretty much have gotten out how I feel about Clinton. I guess the last thing I’d have to say is I’ve never seen more different tones in one campaign than hers. Truly she represents the best of the Joanne Woodward Movie “The Three Faces of Eve.”
It’s 3AM and your child’s asleep. And the phone rings 6 times before someone answers it. She’s cranky because Bill’s back on the Burkle plane partying with the babes. She gets word that a nuclear bomb has been launched and her reply is a screech “Shame on them.”
Clinton is from Arkansas as a wife most of her political life although she rarely admits it, and Huckabee is from Arkansas. Both of them are serving the same purpose in this primary as they continue to try to hang on even though they can’t possibly win via votes or delegates. Let’s look at the numbers right now.
If there is a pony somewhere in all this poo, I think it is that an amazing number of people really care about our country and where it is headed. They have massive amounts of energy and emotion invested in the outcome, but I truly believe that the people on the Democratic side really want what is best for our country and the people of our country. I think that focusing on this idea will be key to getting everyone to pull together once the nomination is settled.
Absolutely poo-fect, Christy.
For this thread only, fer them whut think it; ‘better out than in …’
And then, enuf!!!!
agree.
OK, I’ll get this outta my system and bug off.
It’s been painfully obvious that The Clintons and DLC Dems in general want nothing to do with traditional DemocratIC and Liberal principles since oh I dunno….1995.
They strategically pick certain votes to side with us so they can point to “Liberal scorecards,” and large percentages of fellow Dems will go on and on about, “Hey, see they’re not so bad. Better than a Repub!” Meanwhile, years later those who supported the DLC Dems wonder how things got so bad. The DLCers, of which the Clintons are leaders, exist specifically to destroy the DemocratIC Party from within.
This dynamic his literally almost drove me insane at certain points over the last 10+ years, and the blogosphere came along just in time for me keep together and see that there are a lot people that understand this.
And that’s what’s been so disturbing to me during this primary season. Fellow Liberals still fall for the DLC Kabuki Dance. Unbelievable to me that there’s so many Liberals standing up for the family that has almost single-handedly destroyed our Party.
After the TX debate, where there was simply an honest discussion of issues, and why each person thought they’d be a better Prez, I started thinking maybe I should give Hillary some credit for actually caring about the DemocratIC Party.
HA! It’s been slash and burn since then. We’ll see what happens today, but by ANY MEASURE, Obama is the candidate to create a whole new era of DemocratIC dominance. If Hillary stays in this sucking up cash and energy better saved for McCan’t, will that be enough for people to realize that she’s here to please her BigMoney stringpullers, and doesn’t give a shit about the middle class?
Sorry, Christy, but you’re wrong. Hillary is now the anti-christ.
Ture, but some are infinitely better than others.
It seemed like the sort of thread that everyone could use, frankly. Of late, the bulk of the e-mails that I’m getting fall into three categories: oppo research tips against one candidate from supporters of the other candidate; people bitching about other annoying people bitching; and people begging me to tell them when this is going to be over.
I thought we needed a laugh, and a little ventilation.
And the thing is folks all over the political map feel that THEIR candidate is the one true candidate that is “infinitely better than others.”
Which means they ALL suck in their own inimitable ways.
I thought that was Cheney. Jeebus, why didn’t anyone tell me we were working off a whole new instruction manual?
Well, I would like to say that I have great respect for all FDL participants and often remark that I haven’t noted a single person who doesn’t reveal outstanding intelligence, logic, and research in their posts and comments. It is just unfortunate that about half of you have been suffering from a temporary case of the dumb ass for about a year now.
A pox on all their carouses!!!
I know that there have been headlines posts vetting Obama, but tonight Clinton will effectively be out of the race, though she’s not going to quit until she’s dragged from it even after Pennsylvania, but there never was after the “Obama Rezko poker game distorted perception of a Present Vote “vet” of Obama a correllate “vet” of Clinton currently, and I’m sure their never will be now that I’ve mentioned it.
And by the way for any former DOJ AUSA out there let’s be very clear. In the government’s Indictment “Public Official A” was not Barack Obama, and I don’t know where anyone who formerly worked for DOJ’s PIN (Public Integrity Section) got that idea– it was clearly Pat Fitz’s ultimate target in this prosecution–it was clearly Rod Blagojevich–at least that’s what Judge Amy St. Eve says and my information is that she has a seat in the courtroom as a Whitewater prosecution alumna.
Judge reveals Blagojevich is ‘Public Official A’
I’m not sure about the laughter but the venting sure helps. A few pro Obama blog sites are hinting at rumors about the Clintons coming out. Does anyone know what’s up with that?
My candidate sucks the least! so there!
-pass the toilet paper-
I wish Hillary could see that she would do the party and HERSELF an enormous favor by putting all that energy behind Obama (however you feel about either candidate).
What if she were Secretary of Health and Welfare?
Wouldn’t that be an incredible use of her talent and passion? Why does it have to be this incredible fight to the death to grab top spot? Why is anything else just a consolation prize? Really, I teach my kids to go for it, but they need a plan B.
Your point is taken, Christy.
We are mindful of SCOTUS, the economy, healthcare, security [does not equal eternal war!], global climate change.
That’s a handful…and in our hands is our own fate.
More and better Democrats, in the WH and Congress, the State Houses and every small town/county/township we where we can elect ‘em.
LOL. I won’t ask which half.
You are so wrong!
Your candidate sucks a fair bit more than mine!
Someone please make Tucker Carlson STFU.
What does coming out mean–the last I heard of it in a campaign it was referring to the Debutante parties for Jenna Welch Bush and Tonic.
I found the source on that Clinton supporter poll. Salon.com war room march 3 by Alex Koppelman
Gosh, because we never, ever criticize Hillary Clinton or her campaign tactics. Such as in the post just prior to this one to which you commented…
I’m picturing pitchforks and torches, baby.
Why does she want to be President?
Why would we want a dynasty with Bill as VP?
No clue.
You will never hear an objective assessment from Tucker whose rich daddy funded much of the Libby support effort during this campaign season. Just as you will never hear any objective comments from Hillary Rosen who has clearly been a Clinton shill for months.
All of the people can’t be all right all of the time. I think Abraham Lincoln said that… I’ll let you be in my dream if I can be in yours,
I said that. Bob Dylan
I would but (now don’t get me wrong) but all that repetition sounds a bit like chanting which is a bit cultish and I don’t want to add any more fuel to that fire (snark)
Oh and my candidate is teh suck
There is no more stupid legal analysis on the planet that Tucker Carlson’s childish grasp of the Rezko trial or federal law either legislative or judicial in general.
correction… it’s from “madagascar”.. great choice tho!
McCain says that when he and the repubs came to power…inflation was at 10%, interest rates were at 20%, and unemployment was at 10%…and they fixed the economy.
Is this true?
Maybe, just maybe, Sen. Clinton thinks that she would make a better president than Sen. Obama…and that what she brings to the table is important in terms of pushing particular issues. You know, because she’s a politician and that’s what they do. Same with him.
Because they not only want to win, but they have policies that are important to them that they want to push.
They did fix it. They put it in the toilet.
WaitinginTexas - your comment reminded me of the Noriega race, another less than perfect Dem with an underfunded sometimes faltering campaign, but will be interested in overall Dem strength reflected in that vote
One good reason to have this over is that we can focus on Congress again and the nominee will have much clout.
he is an ass with a mouth or more simply he talks from his ass
Ackkkkkk! That’s it. OMG I’m so over the dynasty thingies. poo poo poo. poopoo.
Madagascar! Thanks — for some reason I thought it was The Wild — but you are absolutely correct. (Can you tell we watch many children’s films in Chez Smith? *g*)
Dosido says: What if she were Secretary of Health and Welfare?
*G* The Cabinet level position would be Secretary for the Department of Health and Human Services.
The term “welfare” has not been part of our name since Carter was President…
Well shit then. They all suck.
It’s just that Russ Feingold doesn’t suck as much as John Pornyn. It’s so clear now.
Off to kill myself.
Right. She thinks. But people are voting otherwise now?
Just flingin’ the poo.
Americablog hinted at something and so has Mark Kleiman at The Realty Based Community. IMO if it’s not over tonight it will get much uglier.
Think I’ll go make some spicy almonds for snacking tonight.
Ah, the succulency of them who would choose our Main Course is, all ways, food for thought, if not indigestion or worse. I don’t think I feel so good … musta been sumthin … I … eight … years is more than enuf!
Thanks for the correction B.
Is my age showing? Does this blog make me look fat?
:)
I think the current administration has proven that, while Lincoln may have been right as far as he went, you can fool enough people, long enough, to do a godawful amount of damage.
Not here — the poo flinging stays in this thread. *g*
I will be voting today in Austin, Texas for Obama.
Many pundits are saying Hillary has an advantage with, Female voters, Hispanic Voters and Elderly Voters. Some Observations from a middleaged Hispanic male:
1) The same reasons older folks are supporting Hillary are the same for older woman and Hispanics (male or female), However be aware (extreme generalization) that older folks in Texas as well as older Hispanics in Texas also distrust African Americans.
2) Also younger people (white, black, hispanic, male or female) really don’t care as much about race.
So really Hillary’s support is not woman vs males or hispanics vs. anglos. It is still older vs. younger, with many middle aged going with the taste for change that they remember from the 90’s. (No Hillary does not make people feel that Bill will be back or that she will bring good times like the 90’s back, those years are gone).
In Austin Obama had a speech that had about 20,000 people. Hillary did not even come close. The same night that Bill came to Austin (6000 showed at the UT campus - Limited space), in the nearby college town of San Marcos (30 miles south of Austin and North of San Antonio) Obama had another showing of about 20,000.
Personally, I never wanted Hillary to run (never liked her). I still believe she is the GOP’s best chance for a W by a squeaker again. Obama is my No.2 choice after Edwards, both were not establishment which is what Hillary is and is basically falling back on now B/C “I am change” has failed for her.
The most pernicious symptom of Battered Party Syndrome is amnesia.
Which explains why the Democrats insist that no matter how many times they’ve been assaulted - no matter how many times they’ve been forced to have unprotected politics with the GOP and its lobbyists - they insist that if they submit one more time, life will return to normal.
An electoral intervention, targeting Bush Dogs and GOP wolves, seems essential if the Democratic Party is ever again to deserve its name.
I’ve heard every time you fling poo at McCain, the botox in his forehead attracts it like a magnet.
