That songbird peering incredulously at those big heads talking on your television screen is a Desert Cardinal, the Pyrrhuloxia, but please don't ask how to pronounce it. The photograph was shot by twolf1.

Elliott!
Elliot!!!!
Zed
Congratulations Elliott!!!
Ellie!!! Good morning.
When I was a kid, we could buy that bird made in plastic, and you had to paint it. Somehow, mine had teeth. ;-)
Elliot!
(Where’s Christy?)
Hey Good Morning!
As most of you know, Christy fritzed out her computer (And I think her hair, the way it sounded) and so she couldn’t do the Sunday Talking Head thread. So I’m filling in for the morning.
What’s cookin’ ? I smell bacon
Morning elliot. The sun is actually shining today and it is not snowing. Maybe spring is not far, maybe bush will resign, maybe cheney will vaporize…nah it is business as usual I see.
and french toast waffles, Marion.
That bird photograph is perfect for Talking Heads. What a beauty. Love the expression in his little face.
Wild mushroom omelets are here along with a few rashers and good old Tetleys tea.
Good morning Elliot!!!! et al.
I get to stay in this morning, yeah! my sunday off.
French toast waffles, eh? sounds good.
you’re breakfast smells pretty good to me; but you’re right, that Meet The Press line-up just smells.
Just went up and looked at the lineup. *gag*
great pic, twolf1!
Good morning Christy, morning dawgs -
I just heard a Republican congresscritter from Ohio, Stephen LaTourette, say that he would have preferred an economic stimulus package that focused on infrastructure in the US. He actually said, “You can’t rebuild roads and bridges here, from China”.
I could not believe my ears.
The Fox “News” lineup smells too this morning.
Good morning everyone.
I think Christy and Pach are the only PC holdouts. Maybe the latest fried laptop will Move Christy into mac land? They just came out with souped up macboos and pros.
RevDeb, what a special treat to see you on a Sunday morning. You must feel like you’re goofing off.
Hey, I bet we all could come up with a better lineup for this week than the one we’ve got, any suggestions for more and better guests and topics?
And like most republicans, he goes and votes against the rebuilding of our infrastructure right after going on television to say what they really want. See? Tired of it.
and rumor has it the imac will get a slight upgrade on tuesday.
i’m hoping for a matte screen version…. to replace my 6 year old imac.
Beautiful here. Ill plant some lettuce and spinach seeds because they dont mind the cold.
I saw Obama at a highschool in Ohio last night talking Constitution. He made FDL proud. Reminded me that he is a constitutional scholar.
First coffee and I must wait for it to warm a bit.
Can you imagine having Christy ask the questions on these shows?
Well, a girl can dream.
Some 18 year old won an award at the Philly Flower show for an Amorphophallus aka voodoo lily, stink lily or corpse plant. We can dedicate it to this mornings entire line-up.
Thanks for the line-up, Elliot.
I wonder who among them will be the first to bring up the massacre happening now in Gaza– massacres that are adding to the prolonged agony of the Palestinians and the ire of the rest of the world… (I won’t hold my breath)
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200.....lestinians
twolf1– what a beautiful picture!!!
do you read the macrumors site? I’ve been hanging out there lately as my PB is now out of warranty. But it looks like June will have a real revamp. Meanwhile I’ll either have to take stuff off the HD or get a larger one installed.
oh, and most of the upgrades the past couple of weeks have been the processor chips and HD sizes.
Whats with his Blackwater support yesterday(?). He, apparently, said that he would keep the privatized murderers in Iraq, is he bloody nuts?
And…. I would plant seeds too if I could get through the frozen snow! I envy you.
Switching from pc to mac is not just the machine , but all the software that you may use which was licensed for PC, and now has to be purchased again in the Mac version.
Isn’t converting some docs from PC to mac a bit of a problem?
Wow, hey Elliot, I didn’t even notice that it wasn’t Christy with the Talking Head Thread this morning.
How cool! :)
Perfect! Good morning. ;-)
New front pager! Pretty exciting.
Us PC users are sort of like the VW drivers in the 60s and 70s– you had to be able to work on your car. But that was, presumably, half of the fun of driving a VW.
I mean, with a Mac you just turn it on and it just works! Where’s the fun in that?
NBC’s Lisa Myers and Jim Popkin report that Hillary Clinton has declined to return $170,000 in campaign contributions from individuals at a company accused of widespread sexual harassment, and whose CEO is a disbarred lawyer with a criminal record, federal campaign records show. The federal government has accused the Illinois management consulting firm, International Profit Associates, or IPA, of a brazen pattern of sexual harassment including “sexual assaults,” “degrading anti-female language” and “obscene suggestions.” Sen. Clinton’s spokesman, Howard Wolfson, told NBC News in a statement that the senator decided to keep the funds because the lawsuit is “ongoing” and because none of the sexual harassment allegations has been proven in court.” It is so hypocritical that she will not Reject and Denounce. This is the usual Camp Clinton Hypocrisy Spin.
Hillary Clinton has no Credibility on national security since she cast her Yes vote to authorize war in Iraq. There where other Senators who voted NO! They knew to vote yes was to automatically Invade a Country that had nothing to do with 911, but all about OIL. That is not Judgment and it is the wrong kind of Experience. And what National Security Experience Does She Really Have? Will she run the country like she has run her Campaign?
Some say, who know the Clintons, that she and Bill have the agenda to get Bill a THIRD Presidency, that should not be allowed. It was Bill, after all, who spoke first after their loss in South Carolina!
Obama’s record is not thin, unknown, perhaps. He has had over 20 years if one would investigate. And the Clintons have had years of Scandal, that one should investigate. How many presidental families Plunder the Whitehouse after they leave taking pictures and furniture? Not to mention the scandal of Impeachment. And then there is “file gate” and so much much more. There is a lawsuit pending because there are records of the Clintons not to be released until 2012 and some want them released. Has she released her Tax Returns, No? America we need to turn the page from this kind of Politicking.
[Mod Note; Here’s the original.]
LaTourette Syndrome on C-SPAN is now saying he has no idea what the caller from Delaware is talking about when it comes to the easily-hackable voting machines in Ohio that gave us the piece of crap in the White House a second time!
Good for the caller from Delaware to point out how wearing the US flag is desecrating it.
Thanks Angie!! How are you? It’s good to see you back at the Lake.
the imac rumor i heard was for a processor upgrade that wouldn’t make a big difference - but really don’t want the glossy screen, so that’s the big issue for me.
i might try to wait until june, but trying to to do video on my old imac is not easy…. and i can’t upgrade to leopard on it (processor is too slow).
My machine (G4) is stacked with freebee Gnu software. NeoOffice is way better than MSOffice and is compatible with old MS software that MS is no longer compatible with, word perfect for instance which is still used in some gummint circles.
Depends on what you use. I’ve got a word processor that I love that cost around $79, I think that converts pretty much anything. The iWork programs do word and excel and PP just fine and that package cost $79 too. If you get into the heavy graphics packages that can set you back a lot. I don’t do microsoft anything and manage just fine thank you. But that’s me.
Yes, indeed, in fact I just heard him say, in response to a caller about the 2004 election being stolen in Ohio, that “the machine are working perfectly”, and that ‘if the caller is referring some kind of conspiracy to steal the 2004 election, that’s nonsense”.
Right you are! However, one hate to miss witnessing the highly likely event of either Carville or Matalin’s head exploding. MM herself could likely be arrested in a sane world and be stored in the same dungeon as Shooter.
Thanks, and I even slept most of the night.
I’d like to hear a good back and forth on the state of the War in Afghanistan, the outlook sounds poor right now and the opium trade is only growing under our “influence” Hours of horse race chatter isn’t my idea of informative discussion.
LaTourette syndrome! LOL!
Did anyone ask LaTourette why McCain has refused to renounce Hagee for his blatant and revolting anti-semitism?
Don’t imagine that St. McCain will be on Russert’s “Press the Meat” until Hagee’s endorsement begins to fade in the public’s mind. That should be in about 24 hours but then again Russert wouldn’t want to challenge McCain. He’s a Republicant.
no.
do we think anyone will broach the question? NO.
If anyone hears it brought up anywhere, let us know.
No, unfortunately.
Will Condi Rice find peace in the Middle East or will she come upon some great shoe sales while there?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....8030102095
It’s anyone’s guess at this point.
Good morning, Elliott and all good company! peer-oooh-lox-ee-ah, I believe. And props to twolf for the photography.
Morning lineup? Well, Chris Dodd vs. Evan Buh-bye could be amusing.
Why hasn’t Karl Rove been indicted yet?
And…I expect the first place we’ll see the Pentagon’s Ray Gun of Power will be at the Rethugs national convention.
Good luck to Christy with the laptop–Compaq is the little laptop that keeps on keepin’ on…
Prairie Today: Is Your Preacher Packin’This Morning?
i helped a friend replace the HD on his 12in PB. as i recall, it wasn’t as complicated as doing on my 3 and a half year old 12in ibook - which, with it’s maxed out ram and 160GB HD, i’m counting on for a few more years.
…
woo hoo ellliot - didn’t even see it was you on the front page. that is most excellent!
Yep, “working perfectly” is code for, “we got this election wrapped up again”. See? Oh, but when you’re a LaTourette and you have reich wing Tourette’s, there is no getting to the truth.
lots of fun finding shareware and widgets that do all sorts of stuff.
The last 3 churches I’ve worked at all had PC’s and I’d often ask the admin. to do something on them and the #$%^ PC didn’t have the capability. The kinds of things that my Mac did so easily. Now that I’ve got a “settled” job rather than an interim one and since they bought a new computer last year I’ll have to wait until we can convert it over. My new admin. would also prefer to work on a mac. Oh well.
When they have Donna Brazile on to represent the Democratic Party it just seems wrong. I think they should show a disclaimer at the bottom of the screen saying “Brazile is not approved by the Democratic Party” every time her face appears or her voice is heard.
It just isn’t right that anyone can call themselves a “Democratic strategist” and go on and misrepresent the party.
I was thinking of you!
The basic office suites are pretty much not the issue, but I think things like Adobe or CAD software and other “industry” products which are expensive ARE the issue for switching over. And some software does not even have a PC and a MAC version, such as navigations software.
If you are doing basic stuff, a PC is not advantageous except they are pretty cheap.
Good mornin’, egregious! Are you all settled in your new locale?
I find that most office environments are PC based, except those in the “arts”. No?
What a wonderful photo. Maybe spring will get here…and quite soon. One of the memories the photo triggers for me is that it was just about this time last year I was introduced to FDL, and lovely photos were being posted then. What a treat! And what a year. Thank you all. Cheers.
I agree. Personally, I like Flavia Colgan…
http://www.philly.com/dailynew.....ia_colgan/
She always seems to have her crap together, more so, than Brazile who seems scared to contradict the wingers.
angie - did you see this (from friday)? :(
my bold.
What, you’re expecting real dialogue . . . on real issues of importance?
Surely you jest.
When I looked at my Globe RSS feed upon awakening this morning the first articles that came up:
Egypt to treat wounded Palistinians
Sudan nomads clash with ex-rebels, dozens killed.
US: Major al-Quaida figure killed
Afghans protest Danish cartoon
Taliban destroy Afghan phone tower
No, nothing to see here. Let’s talk about the horse race.
Windows will run on all newer Macs — which will allow you to use any PC software *shudder* on the Mac. On the newest Macs, Vista runs faster than it does on PCs.
and the new macs can run both OSX and windoze.
we need to talk.
my my…*g*
not worry–I won’t–well, I’m headed out again in any event…felicitations…I thought you’d posted before…
Assuming you would ever want to use windows ever again.
Mac convert…does it show?
and linux :D
just have to plug linux every now then ;)
Yo-Grand Blanc, I despise Vichy Donna.
Uh ohhhhh, the president of Iran is in Iraq and he was greeted with tons of pomp and circumstance:

Poor Georgie!
mac sabra—using Apples since 1981.
How’s the new digs? How many dozens of boxes unpacked and how many to go?
We’ve managed to move all of our still packed ones to the basement¸—out of mind, out of sight. We just have to go down when there’s something we can’t find anywhere else.
Hi Prairie!
A little birdie told me there would be a good post this morning. It’s still dark outside here on the left coast. The pups made me some bacon and biscuits.
With California license plates, real furniture to sit on, food in the frig, and new friends among neighbors and folks at church, yes it does seem like life here is going pretty well, thanks for asking!
I do miss the early morning conversations tho.
SOOOO tired of her. All of the dem “spokesdroids” are so yesterday. How about getting some well informed bloggers to take their places? At least we’d be up to date on what’s really happening and leave the cocktail weenie minions behind.
MoDo and Frank Rich both writing about the candidates of experience this morning. [linky’s to Rich’s take on the McCain Strategery which seems to also be Hillary’s strategery].
you have my #s.
if you decide to opt for major surgery, i have an portable external 100HD you could use for a bootable backup of your current drive (surgery always involves some risk, better to be prepared).
It just bugs me that those asshole journalists get to pick centrist Democrats and try to make it look like anyone to the left of Joe Lieberman is a commie radical.
I adore twolf1’s birdie pic, and thanks for the pronunciation Prairie!
If you click on the say waa? you can see even more beautiful bird pictures by twolf1, and mebbe some eclipse others.
Down to 23 boxes, mostly books and papers. Trying to go thru 2 every day. A lot of the stuff I look at and think, I paid somebody to move that here? and just toss/recycle.
I cannot believe they are trotting out these blathering, self serving fools (esp on MTP) instead of talking about the killing fields. These people have nothing to say to me and are a bad influence on the uninformed who might tune in to the soundbites later.
Yes, selise @ 58– I did. It’s horrifying and so much for “never again” ;(
I trust Senator Dodd will have something substantive to say– also Jaap de Hoop Scheffer NATO Secretary-General (wrt Afghanistan) and Howard Dean DNC Chairman.
twolf1– nice to be back and able to post– thank you kindly.
Joe Sudbay has a good opener for Americablog’s Sunday line-up:
I know the feeling. The books were unpacked very early on here but lots of the boxes that are left have papers in them. Why I think they’re important enough to keep escapes me right at the moment.
i want a sunday morning talk show hosted by amy goodman. with christy, jane, glenn, et al. in the rotating line up to represent us and with a couple of experts on whatever is the main topic of discussion to keep the pundits honest.
Ooo yes, Glenn Greenwald. And Jeralyn would skewer these fools as well.
BTW, where is Bill Donohue when you need him? He’s a major league asshole but he’s a bulldog and this time I happen to agree with him. (Never thought I’d hear myself say that.)
They had him on every channel to go after Amanda, a lefty blogger no one ever heard of, but now the kewl kids won’t let him go after McCain for his anti-Catholic bigotry.
I guess they had to protect their precious St. John.
It’s hard to even watch these bobble heads. There are so many intelligent political observers and they turn to the same jerks time and again.
DON’T WATCH. BOYCOTT the networks. IGNORE THEM
given the trial balloons sent up last week, it looks like the coming week will be the next act of political theatre in the congressional dems elaborate FISA cave (while trying to convince us that they really are fighting it).
Watch LINK TV on satellite DirectTV 375.
SUPPORT IT
It HAS DemocracyNow!
they only put his mug on the teevee when he’s skewering dems.
Why are they so many willing to not hold the telcoms accountable for wrong doing? WHY?
teevee for me is sports and movies. Can’t watch anything else and haven’t done for lo these many years even BB.
Off to make banana muffins now.
because the lobbyists bribe them, er, I mean, contribute to their campaigns.
don’t think it’s the telecoms they worry about being held accountable.
add chocolate chips—makes for a much better experience, IMHO. I love banana nut muffins with choc. chips!
emptywheel always has good questions and what she covers should be the top of the topics list.
Shrum — Mike [Murphy] is right.
he continues…there is a generational struggle in the Democratic Party. HIllary is the Beach Boys who can’t believe the Beatles have arrived on the scene.
Matalin’s wearin’ Easter pink.
Carville’s painfully reaching for how Hillary can turn it around.
Russet: I am Obi Wan, concertmaster…
So reframe the issue. And let them restate the accountability of WHOSE liability for WHAT?
Are we being lied to about what this immunity is for?
Is it to protect the administration? Can’t they pardon themselves?
don’t hold your breath expecting to an airing of that one.
I am glad someone is watching so I don’t have to :)
Georgie knows that if the telecoms don’t have immunity from prosecution his ass is screwed.
ohhh, I am soo looking forward to watching MTP (not)
That show has become irrelevant
Would it be okay if I air punched Mary Matalin’s face this morning?
I bet Millineryman is at the bakery getting some sort of really tasty bakery goods
Yeah, but that doesn’t explain why the Rats are going along with it.
ditto that.
nonviolent protest is encouraged.
he’s home, not feeling well. Some sort of bug going around I guess.
blather, blather, blather, blather,
takes five Idahos to equal a California
teh math,
teh primaries
Pennsylvania [aside, Philly’s a tough town, did you know that?]
more blather, blather, blather…
It’s all horserace alla time.
blergh
Hey, anybody remember that phony committee that got together in Oklahoma to push talking about issues and Real Serious Stuff?
Where are they now?
OK, shower time. Don’t need to hear more.
Then a wonderful day of house cleaning on my day off. The dust bunnies are starting to take over.
selise, YGM.
Oh goody…
*uppercut, right cross, left cross, grabbing her shoulders, knee to the gut, knee to the gut, right cross again*
Wow. That felt good. And looky, she’s still sitting there. Darn it. LOL
it’s 3 a.m. now.
more blergh
Okay, Chris Wallace just chattered away a quarter of his show with the hillary side v barack side yeammering.
But now *drumroll* it’s on to Karl Rove.
I have a silver crucifix at hand.
Prairie, is your phone ringing? If it’s Obama, please answer it. ;-)
thanks for the update, he’s extra-special.
it’s 3 a.m. now. do you know where your president is?
ohferpetessake, Shrum forgot his line there for a bit about “that reminds me” Walter Mondale ad, but not to worry Russet’s got it cued up and ready to go.
Now a phone ad Bush 1 used against Bubba. Give me an effin’ break.
That reminds me. I’ve been procrastinating all weekend on cleaning up the winter dog crap from the back yard.
enough’s enough.
