Lobbyists: Forget Vicki Iseman. America apparently has. There's a bigger story here -- a story Americans fed up with a bought-and-paid-for DeeCee culture understand. McCain is owned by lobbyists. They run his campaign, they run his his Senate office, they make business calls using the phone on the campaign bus. Media Matters:
- Lobbyist fundraisers. Two of the co-chairmen of McCain's national finance committee were registered to lobby Congress as of year-end 2007 (the latest disclosure data available), and a third previously lobbied Congress. Another co-chairmen is one of Florida's "most powerful lobbyists" (St. Petersburg Times, 10/1/06). McCain's "top fundraising official" (Washington Post, 2/22/08), one of the two co-chairmen registered to lobby as of year-end 2007, is the founder of a prominent Washington lobbying firm that has made "millions inserting earmarks into spending bills" (Politico, 2/8/08).
McCain's reliance on lobbyist fundraisers, which according to Public Citizen includes 59 former and current lobbyist bundlers, follows a multi-year effort by McCain of "reaching out to K Street to strengthen his national fundraising network" (The Hill, 3/8/06).
- Lobbyist advisers and staffers. At least 24 McCain staffers or advisers were either registered to lobby Congress (as of year-end 2007) or were previously lobbyists, according to a Media Mattersreview. Former and current federally registered lobbyists include McCain's campaign manager, deputy campaign manager, chief political adviser, senior policy adviser, more than half a dozen economic policy advisers, and numerous national and state co-chairmen.
A June 2007 Huffington Post report by Tom Edsall on lobbyist staff and advisers to McCain found that while "lobbyists are playing key roles in both Democratic and Republican bids ... all the campaigns pale in comparison to McCain's, whose rhetoric stands in sharp contrast to his conduct."
So when it comes to lobbyists, America needs a constant reminder of the rebranded Straight Talk Express.
Lawbreaking: Listen to the Doctor. Howard Dean has John McCain in a box full of lawbreaking, and he's not about to let him out:
“The law is very clear. He can not withdraw if he has used the promise of matching funds as collateral for his loan,” Dean said, “John McCain cannot unilaterally withdrawal from the spending limitations.”
John McCain wrote the campaign spending laws. Americans think Russ Feingold's first name is McCain, for pete's sake. Let's be sure Americans understand that John McCain can't follow the law with his own forking name on it.
The Lord's Messenger: The Rev. John Hagee's endorsement was one St John eagerly sought. Now America is starting to see that there's some weirdness associated with Hagee, and that maybe they don't want a President who's quite so eager for an endorsement from a wackjob like him. Glenn Greenwald gives us the three highlights of Hagee's belief system:
* All Muslims are programmed to kill and we can thus never negotiate with any of them. From an NPR interview Hagee gave to Terry Gross in 2006:
TG: If you use the Bible as the basis for policy, is there any room for compromise? And if you use the bible as the basis for policy, should Muslims use the Koran as the basis for their policy, and then again, what possible basis is there for compromise at that point?
JH: There is really no room for compromise between radical Islam --
TG: I'm not talking about radical Islam. I'm just talking about Islam in general.
JH: Well Islam in general -- those who live by the Koran have a scriptural mandate to kill Christians and Jews.* God caused Hurricane Katrina to wipe out New Orleans because it had a gay pride parade the week before and was filled with sexual sin. From the same interview:
JH: All hurricanes are acts of God, because God controls the heavens. I believe that New Orleans had a level of sin that was offensive to God, and they were recipients of the judgment of God for that.
The newspaper carried the story in our local area, that was not carried nationally, that there was to be a homosexual parade there on the Monday that the Katrina came. And the promise of that parade was that it would was going to reach a level of sexuality never demonstrated before in any of the other gay pride parades.
So I believe that the judgment of God is a very real thing. I know there are people who demur from that, but I believe that the Bible teaches that when you violate the law of God, that God brings punishment sometimes before the Day of Judgment, and I believe that the Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans.* The End Times -- Rapture -- is imminent and the U.S. Government must do what it can to hasten it, which at minimum requires: (a) a war with Iran and (b) undying, absolute support for a unified Israel, including all Occupied Territories (hence, Joe Lieberman's love affair with them).
From Christian Palestinian Daoud Kuttab in The New York Times (h/t PZ Meyers):
A small minority of evangelical Christians have entered the Middle East political arena with some of the most un-Christian statements I have ever heard. . . . [Rev.] Hagee, a popular televangelist who leads the 18,000-member Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, ratcheted up his rhetoric this year with the publication of his book, "Jerusalem Countdown," in which he argues that a confrontation with Iran is a necessary precondition for Armageddon (which will mean the death of most Jews, in his eyes) and the Second Coming of Christ. In the best-selling book, Hagee insists that the United States must join Israel in a preemptive military strike against Iran to fulfill God's plan for both Israel and the West.
Less Jobs: Joe Scarborough put this one quite succinctly. We all need to be sure Americans understand that this really is McCain's primary election platform:
SCARBOROUGH: We’re gonna start a lot of wars! He has promised, for the record Keith, John McCain’s platform — and it certainly looks inviting for the fall — he has promised less jobs and more wars. Now that’s something we can all rally behind.
Love of War: Hasn't Robert Greenwald covered this topic very well in the video at the top of the post? Be sure you do your part to help it go viral. John McCain wants lots more wars; he's promising them on the campaign trail! American, weary of war, won't want to vote for more wars.
Love of Bush: John McCain's campaign slogan might as well be "Four More Years." Our slogan can be "No Third Term." People understand what that means. Our job is to bind McCain close to Preznit Nineteen Percent. This close:
No, this close:

Got it? Six Ells: Lobbyists, Lawbreaking, the Lord's Messenger Hagee, Less Jobs, Love of War, and Love of Bush.
It's very easy to remember: L is for Loser.
Update: St John will be interviewed on 60 Minutes next Sunday. Suggest your questions at the bottom of their webpage.

Hey Teddy
Teddy! Aloha, LL!
Teddy! Great to see you again.
Excellent post Teddy — hope some more wheels fall off that bus!
Aloha CT!
Hey Teddy! Where’s the Lust for Larceny?
“They drive his bus” pretty much sums it up for me.
(((Teddy!)))
Just here to say hi! as i retire for the evening.
****good night smooch***
Teddy: Less Jobs is not bolded and the rest are. would you like me to fix that for you?
What is the last part of that video from? Is that really McCain singing?
Y’know, if you photoshop out the three middle fingers on Bush’s hand in that lower-right pic, you’d have the “L”
Good evening teddy. Great post!
We’re going to make George W. Bush John McCain’s running mate.
pet peeve —- why the hell can’t people say “FEWER JOBS” instead of “LESS JOBS”?
OK. I am done.
Hey Teddy! I’ve gotta find one of these whack job churches around here and go for “services”.
Hey, Betsy, your young Cassie is writing some powerful posts these days. Her new one on prison populations is excellent!
some people would vote for him!
Yes! I agree. She wrote another one today as well. Great stuff.
Political Teen Tidbits By Freckles Cassie, a liberal blog written by a teen with input from teens
Read her earlier one as well…she and I both double-dipped on posting today. Like minds. Different topics of course *g*
McCain and the Lobbyists: a decades long love affair.
Bravo Teddy - you’ve outdone yourself with this post and snark-a-delicious in the bargain. Deserves Diggs here, there and everywhere! woo hoo! Hugs!
Good evening Teddy. I was great to meet you today at Suz’s.
The post is great also. We can’t let Mucus McCain off the hook on the finance laws, this needs to be made crystal clear to all citizens that he is breaking the law but in trying to opt out of his agreement with the FEC to gain public financing for his campaign. He should be made to stop any campaigning until this is settled. He should not be allowed to flaunt the law just because his name is on it. OH yeah he is Republican and they don’t follow the law….they change it as they see fit as their needs change, I knew I was missing something in this whole mess :>(
What a incredible young woman that Cassie is!
pups need to digg this post - we gotta do our part to make sure this story does not die in the media
besides which, it will make st john the coinchanger’s jaw all tight and twitchy again :)
http://digg.com/political_opin.....mpaign/who
I didn’t know you could digg your own post??? But
I guess in Teddy’s case it is OK
Hi Suz, have dunnit
Hello all (thanks, Suzanne, I fixed that and a coupla typos too!)
Folks, I added a link where you can go Contact CBSNews to suggest questions for next week’s interview with John McCain. I think some of the Ells deserve questions, don’t you?
Hope everyone is well tonight — and thank you, I am!
well it does help avoid that whole double digg thang we got going on (laughing)
Wow. That girl is smart.
Hey, Loudoun! Hey, CT!
Hello eg, great to see you again too!
That was supposed to be a reply to Aunt Betsy @ 17
“What an incredible young woman that Cassie is!”
Hear, hear!
Hey Mary - hope you’re feeling better. I picked up a horrid cold and had to cancel the FDL pup meetup at Suz’ cottage at Boulder Creek and thought of you. Take good care.
Hello, Betsey!
Big kiss, and goodnite, Kathryn….
i kinda figured!
Isn’t that weird? It really sounds like it’s him, doesn’t it?
I wonder if Robert Greenwald found a singalike….
How is SF tonight Teddy? Did y’all have the big meet-up?
We need to do it again. SOON.
Well, on top of the 6 Ls, let’s make a little comparison of Rodeo Queen McCain and Michelle Obama.
wow, lobbyists are his addiction
Loo Hoo, that would be a terrific sacrifice. What if you were “assimilated?”
Hiya, brat, we missed you today, hope you are feeling better.
So nice to meet you today, nahant!
Next Bear Creek Krewe meetup will be after the flu season :)
or before.
hey TeddySanFran—
hello from Paris…(Thanks for the other day–you know what I’m talking about…*g*)
OT-Just before 8pm there 544 comments on that horrible women hating piece in the WaPo today. Very few were complimentary. Heh.
let’s hear about the meet-up! any pix?
hey there!
We had a wonderful time at Suzanne’s lovely cottage on the creek. I’ll get my photos up tomorrow and post them for y’all. Lotsa good food, fun firepups and pups, and beautiful weather. I made it home five minutes before my zipcar turned into a pumpkin!
Related: There was an article in the NYT about a movement for same-sex education in which there was a lot of talk to the effect that “studies show girls are different…”. These people want to undo Title IX and put girls back in their place.
There are Neanderthals among us.
poor teddy - i was ducking the pictures since i woke up friday morning with a popped blood vessel in my left eye and now look like a reject from one of them slasher films (laughing) those forkers take 2 forking weeks for the blood to be reabsorbed into the eye.
Oh yes please tell us everything! Suz? Teddy - did ya take pictures?
Wouldn’t you hate this?:
“Of course I’m for real,” Obama said, “That’s why I’m here.”
He then headed to a nearby taquito stand where he bought a torta and posed for the press as he took a big bite out of the sandwich. Unfortunately for Obama, a piece of beef was wedged between his two front teeth as the cameras snapped away.
and is wasn’t even near midnight.
Just got into Santa Cruz and am heading back to Seattle. Suzanne’s was cool I scored 3 books everyone brought great food.
I seems that everybody feel like I do about Bush. There is no doubt no excuses, we just want somebody to fight.
We need some Dem Politicans to come to these meetings the Dems don’t seem to be in touch with their base or their anger.
Which pups were able to make it to the meet-up?
The dems are fools. The repugs are worse.
Things! was great meeting ya today. Driving down from seattle!!!
Bummer Suzanne! At least it’s not painful, just a bit gruesome looking. Make up some sort of juicy story about how it happened, even though the truth is it was likely a cough or sneeze or sometimes nothing at all.
Oy! How’s your eye now Suzanne?
Ahh, ya mean we missed a true kodak moment, Ma Cheri? ;-)
The eye is totally groody looking but no other problem - just walking around with a gross looking bloody left eye.
excuse interruption … msg for you from Du at end of last
hey siun - you are never an interruption :)
TCU gets the award for farthest-trip-ever for a firepup meetup, I imagine. Not sure what the odometer shows, but it’s 684 miles by teh google. Has ever a firepup traveled farther for a meetup?
Mahalo, Siun! 8-)
Niters all - gonna swill down some cough syrup and snuggle up with mrbrat and the pooch and see if the movie will put me to sleep. Thanks for the update on today’s meetup and look forward to the pictures. ((((Teddy)))) ((((Suz))))
when EG flew in from DC at the november one teddy - but that was not driving - Things totally gets the most miles driven :)
Hey Suzanne … sorry I was not longer in Cali so I could have joined you all. I miss SF so much as they forecast the next snow storm here …
a bunch of us went to Chicago. Does that count?
Had I made it I would have owned the record - 7417 miles - but I had to go to Sacramento to see my mom. Sorry Suz - maybe next time,
next one for sure siun :) we had a lovely spring day in the 60’s today, lots of sunshine and blue skies.
Brat and MaryMc, see you guys next time I hope.
YKos or Netroots Nation or whatever it is called does not count. That’s national - we are talking regional (laughing)
hi Pete, sorry we missed you, hope your mom’s well.
dood, you show up and i’ll make sure ya get a shiny golden award.
Suz, eye patches are cool, and very pirate looking. Then there’s no need to duck pictures. *looking over the top of my glasses at Suz and laughing*
How do you get to comments on We Scream, We Swoon?
Did Token scratch you? I had that once, and Cindy Loo Hoo was trying to wake me up to go potty.
Any NY/NJ pups available for a meet-up in late June? Father’s day weekend I think.
my allergies have been acting up and i probably rubbed it too hard in my sleep or something equally as boring.
waking up with it is the #1 symptom according to the google.
It’s on the page with the op-ed piece, just to the left of the column under Toolbox. Click on VIEW ALL COMMENTS.
Suz, could ya take a peek behind the curtain and see what happened to a comment for Du? Did I say a no-no?
OT: bad news:
RFID tags installed in German pants
from Raw Story Breaking News
PARIS: Thousands of garments in the sprawling men’s department at the Galeria Kaufhof are equipped with tiny wireless chips that can forestall fashion disaster by relaying information from the garment to a dressing-room screen. The garments in the department store, in Essen, Germany, contain radio frequency identification chips, small circuits that communicate by radio waves through portable readers and more than 200 antennas that can not only recommend a brown belt for those tweed slacks but also track garments from the racks, shelves and dressing rooms on the store’s third floor.
Plus, lots of people at YearlyKos were not pups.
I have that symptom sometimes but it’s not a bloody eye.
CT i looked and its not caught in the filters. bet we have the cranky NSA monitor tonight and he made it poof to mess with us (sorry dood)
hi there egregious….
hope this meets you well…
hehehehe
Thanx! Could be…! *waving* to the nice man… 8-)
and you too…*g*
I’m off to London in an hour and-a-half…EuroStar from Paris Nord, two-and-a-half-hour trip…will be back tonight…
Looks like McCain might be getting his more wars now. Too bad we don’t have any extra troops to send to help Columbia. America’s enemies know that we are weak and with our troops in Iraq we can’t do anything to anyone else.
If war breaks out in South America we pin this on McCain.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/.....89457.html
Phoenix to Seattle… 1500 miles… does that count?
i meant back in Paris–
–flying back to the US tomorrow, back to Minneapolis, MN, USA! won’t give up being based in Minneapolis for anywhere else…
hey things - did you see this one in our news box?
Thanks. Didn’t take long to get a flavor!
Hello Biodun,
Am mostly ok most of the time. Marcy says that’s success and I wouldn’t argue with her. Thanks for the updates from Paris.
Hey, traveler. Is your goil going to be coming to Minnesota?
That’s got to be a record, katymine!
We are creating separate categories for driving and flying, apparently. Did you drive or fly? *g*
How are you, katymine? We were talking about your state today, and I wondered if St John McCain will even carry Arizona this fall. There’s been talk on Orangerie that the “intermountain West” is lost to Dems this year with McCain as the GOP nominee, but I doubt that’s true.
you’re welcome, eg–
is my pal punaise keeping you good company? Tell him to introduece you to his famous neighbor, Michel Chabon. He and hiswife, Ayelet, are atrip, especially Ayelet, wwith their 4 kids.
If you ever get to meet them, their company might be good tonic…
Another good tonic–a trip outta good old USA for about a week or so..
When is your next trip to Russia? Where BBC News has been obsessed with for the past two hours–you know Medveyev, which Chimpy had trouble pronouncing the other day aat his pitiful presser…
She is something else!! Cassie!!! You go, Girl!!!
I drove 8 miles down to greenwarrior’s house! And Gnome drove two blocks out of her way to have lunch with me once.
I see it now. Is Columbia still a country where left wing rebels sell coke for guns and right wing death squads sell coke to keep the current government in power.
Plus aside from buying the coke we sell them weapons and we give them did money to buy more weapons.
Bush can’t ignore this if the Leftist countries of South America start invading American Puppet countries in South America and winning then Democracy won’t be on the march anymore. Bush’s base will scream that Fidel is wining.
yep–and we’re going to paint the Warehouse District red. We’ll fit right in: that’s the boho section of Minneapolis, for those who want to know…*g* everyone wears black, and everyone has a laptop with wireless, and we take ourselves oh so very seriously at various hotspot cafes around the neighborhood. some of us venture way out into the outskirts, like Cafe Espresso Royale in Dinkytown…
hahahahaha
Seems we should aquaint ourselves with Medyenev…sooooon. Next one…
I flew to Portland and then drove to Seattle. So have to split the millage…
McBush is hated on the right here for several reasons…
1. Immigration
2. McBush ran a slate of candidates to take over the AZ GOP state party and they lost…. BIG deal and nasty mess
3. Immigration
4. Repubs call him LIBERAL
5. Immigration
Oh did I mention they really hate his stand on Immigration?
On the left… his hugging the religions right has cooked him with the so called McCain Democrats….. More War just doesn’t do it..
They are making this McClame shit up…seriously.
Do you think the MSM would give Clinton a pass on even one of the scandles that have come out as of late concerning Crazy Train. The republics say they loathe him, but do they really?
