WaPo:
The Dutch designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, aka Viktor & Rolf, showed their line on Tuedsay afternoon and it was apparently a kind of catharsis for them. Frustrated by the relentless demands to create one collection after another with practically no time in between to recharge, but unwilling to run through the streets of Paris shouting "No!" at the top of their lungs, they decided to let loose a scream of protest in their show. Thus, the No! collection was born. Clothes were embroidered with the single word of rebellion and there were jackets that bore the word in giant three-dimensional blocks. Wouldn’t a little kvetching over drinks with friends have done the trick?
I guess there’s a yin to every yang.

Sounds like the official clothing line of the McCain’t campaign.
guess they were a ‘wee’ frustrated, huh?
Nice eyes, looks like Pris from Blade Runner!
I wish I’d thought of that headline.
No, McCan’t!!!
I remember when Yoko Ono’s YES was radical. Look through the telescope and at the end of it it says YES – and John fell head over heels in love.
LOL, that was my reaction as well.
Pris
Okay, can one of our photoshop gurus put that shirt on Bush in the “hug” picture with McCain’t?
“Mmmphhmmhphh!”
That’s a doggie bed, look at the little paws!
yeah, one of my fav movies
epu’d …
mccain not natural born citizen? *g*
not much chance of the supremes ruling against him, but funny to see his campaign constantly tripping over its own feet …

“You’re going out dressed like THAT?!?”

No Mas…mierda del toro
Anyone see Colbert on tuesday?
“your prayers fall on God’s deaf ears”
bwahahaha!
No mierda
Wow, fashion designers rebelling. It may be anti-fashion fashion but it’s still fashion and supremely irrelevant as far as I can see. Besides aren’t Viktor and Rolf just riffing on all those Snorgtees that keep infesting this site? *g*
NO we can’t have an administration that covers up and condones torture!!!
Below are new Abu Gharib pictures…Warning: do not click on this link if you are squeamish:

Jane, lol, you should have thrown in fashion threads when the clinton/obama pie were in full swing. they seem to have a quieting effect upon the lake waters *g
Oxi!
As someone pointed out in the last thread, 1% of the US adult population is now behind bars.

I find these numbers horrific. Another mission accomplished of sorts.
The highest percentage per population in the world

Maybe we should have clothes designed with a P on the back of the shirt for prisoner, a new fashion statement of reality, because that is how it feels to this guy.
Hi LS, I’m late but did you catch any of the “press conference” this a.m.? What a friggin’ joke. “we can’t embrace dictators (Castro) who falsely imprison people”.
Yeah, never mind that island called Gitmo.
was this discussed earlier or did everyone just throw up a little and move on?
If the designers really want to make money, they’ll produce a toddler line. Any two or three year old will be happy to wear a NO! T-shirt.
Hiya,
I thought it was really funny when he said that working people need money to put “money” on the table…He said a bunch of weird stuff…like that McCain won’t necessarily be the nominee!
We liveblogged it a couple of threads ago. To be more precise, Bush does not believe tyrants should be embraced at least on the first date. Also we should not get into bed with them until the third.
“Mr. Dursley returned home, where he learned that Dudley had learned a new word: won’t!”
Apparently the 1790 Act established that “natural born” included those born of US citizen parents (thus extending jus sanguinus) as well as jus soli (those born within the boundaries of the United States). It was left out of the 1792 revised Act, but reinstated in the 1802 version. There was a Supreme Court decision a century later that also firmly re-established that children of even ONE US parent, though born abroad, are “natural born”.
Interestingly George Romney was, in fact, in a very ambiguous position. His grandparents may have surrendered their US citizenship when they left the United States (and it’s Utah Territory) in the 1870’s to establish a polygamist mission in Mexico. Most appear to have accepted Mexican citizenship, some even serving in positions within the government. George’s parents may thus, not have been US citizens when he was born in Mexico. And his status as either a naturalized or jus sanguinus citizen was in question. Mitt was definitely a citizen, however, since his mother was a US citizen and he was born in the US. But he could be viewed as a sort of “anchor baby”.
I almost got the impression that Bush was drunk or medicated or something. He would wander, use tons of long (awkward, pauses and far more interjections like (Err and Um) than usual. Even parts of his conference where he should have been well-scripted, like on TeleComm Immunity, he was wandering and only giving “fear mantras”.
Gosh! He makes everyone running for President sound like geniuses, especially Obama and Clinton.
Belittle fashion all you want, but it’s from where stuff sneaks up on us. If the fashionistas have decided to say No! on the job, there’s really something out there.
(Besides, it can be fun, even if you lack the wherewithall to participate much.)
