Yesterday, St. McCain said this about Iraq:
"Al Qaeda is in Iraq. And that’s why we’re fighting in Iraq, and that’s why we’re succeeding in Iraq."
So we’re succeeding in Iraq … because al Qaeda’s in Iraq? WTF?
And what happened to this from just a day earlier?
The Iraq War, Mr. McCain said, will be over "soon."
He continued: "…the war for all intents and purposes, although the insurgency will go on for years and years and years, but it will be handled by the Iraqis, not by us, and then we decide what kind of security arrangement we want to have with the Iraqis. … "
So according to St. McCain, al Qaeda will be defeated "soon." Really? And al Qaeda is, by his definition, not part of the insurgency.
This makes absolutely no sense, but still, we should listen to St. McCain because he’s very serious.
For more incoherence, see Attaturk.

not too hard to do.

live-blog presser here or stay in last thread?
Please advise…
zed. Not.

who’s in charge here?
meant for BT and Mods…
LOL…
spoken like a military person…
Maybe at 71 his command of facts and his memory are not what is needed in a president?
We don’t need someone whose wife has to feed him lines… like Nancy Reagan did… remember her whispering: “Tell them.. ‘we’re doing all we can.’”
I don’t think it’s his age. He just wants to stay in Iraq forever, but can’t say that, so he keeps having to twist himself around like a pretzel every time he talks about Iraq.
“I don’t know a whole lot about him, either….”
A rare, rare moment of Bush being more honest than the press. Some reporter, sucking up, described the mention of Medvedev in the MSNBC debate, saying of Obama and HRC, “they didn’t apear to know a whole lot about him.”
Did someone ask Bush to pronounce the next Russian Premier’s name ?
as opposed to chumpy, who knows nuttin about nuttin
“al Qaeda in Iraq” is a whole cloth invention of DoD.
Whoever the fuck they are, they remain home grown free lancers.
The Big Lie of 2003 (Iraq + Hussein = al Qaeda + 9/11/01) is now part of the Warmonger lexicon.
This flaky bastard swallows it whole.
W thinks he’s a straightforward, tough character? 707!!
Am I wrong or is Lil Bush’s presser even more fact free than usual. While he was pissing and moaning about FISA, he dragged out the old chestnut up or down vote. Every time I hear a gooper use that phrase, I get the feeling that someone is trying to jerk me off.
He and the rest of these talking point asswipes conveniently forget that Al and the Quedas weren’t in Iraq until they started dicking around in there.
Saddam didn’t like ‘em either and kept them out.
Now it’s the reason we are fighting there?
It’s not about the oil/
Golly gee Gomer, I wish they would make up their minds, people are getting killed.
Who was the reporter that asked the AL Qaeda question?
Like “Roach” at the bridge
Good for Bill Plante!
Shareholders are more important than Constitutional Rights, right from the Chimp’s mouth.
... on the plus side, unemployment numbers for terrists are at historical lows …
Question: Are you telling Americans to suck it up about the loss of their privacy?
Bush: Well I wouldn’t want to say that in public.
Yes, he actually said this.
He is lying again. Whenever he pounds his hand and states emphasize he is lying.
Aw, c’mon, he’s wearing a flag pin, he must be a patriot.
They are getting steady paychecks too.
We are paying these guy’s not to fight us.
I don’t know if this fits in with anyones ‘research’ etc, but still interesting.
‘The lavishly-furnished custom Boeing 727 airliner (727PX) which ferried Senator John McCain on four occasions during his Presidential run in 2000 also flew Saudi Royals out of the U.S. right after 9/11, carrying an entourage of Saudi Royals from Las Vegas to London six days after the 9/11 attack in a controversial operation later scrutinized by the 9/11 Commission.
The 727 figures in the current tempest over his relationship with female lobbyist Vicki Iseman, who provided and flew with McCain on the plane.’

The perils of dial-up. There were no comment when I pressed submit. Sigh.
watching on mute. I can tell he didn’t like the question. What was it?
Yeah well, when they realize they’re getting paid in Dollars and not Euros, all Hell’s gonna break loose …
It is impossible to articulate any coherent Iraq policy which incorporates or accepts any of the incoherent policy which led to our enabling the chaos which is now Iraq.
he of course mispronounced it…
moot question…looks like live-blog’s migrated here…
that was always the plan, methinks…BIG DIVERSION allows big theft
I just turned the presser on. Bush is a moron. It’s hard to believe that he is where is and and taken seriously.
Pathetic.
he doesn’t look as enthusiastic about all this as he was before he went on his African safari…maybe that mellowed him…
Possibly someone whispered some uncomfortable truths into his shell-like little ear?
Denge fever?
Chimpy: Obama should stay focused on his campaign against Hillary Clinton…My party’s nomination isn’t yet decided either….
“Sustainability is to keep enough troops there to succeed”!
He was shocked to find that Africa is a continent not a country and it will take some time for him to recover.
Oh, gawd, that’s priceless!!
There’s that “Uppity” thing again. This time from POTUS.
Um … don’t forget Paris …
But have you seen him at Liberian folk dancing?
and the definition of succeed is what….
The “War” in Iraq has been over since Hussein’s Iraqi government fell. With no opposition government, it was no longer a war, and has since then been an Occupation.
The deliberate confusion and conflation of the present military actions (an occupation) with the term “war” is part of what makes it difficult to discuss and resolve these issues.
There is no war in Iraq. It’s an occupation.
To achieve sustainability.
How bout no taxes for incomes less than $75K?
He is actually claiming that $4 a gallon gas means his tax cuts should be permanent. I am sorry the man is a moron and does not deserve the respect of the office he holds.
Oil man president.
This is class war and they are winning handily.
They are all effin’ mad.
“Explore robustly in ANWR,” where there’s about five months worth of gas…..
Oh God, now it’s raising taxes on the poor old oil companies.
“Some expert told you gas was going to $4″!♦
And how much profit would that be?
Good Christ. ANWR again?
So they can spill a couple million gallons on land and have Alito and Roberts absolve them of any wrongdoing?
Fuck that noise.
he’s focused on gas prices but doesn’t no the price of gas? I don’t suppose he has actually bought any for a decade or two.
doesn’t know
Petrol is actually only $2.50 as the dollar has gone down in value.
tell everyone you know,if a puke steals theWH again, the great experiment is OVER
Oh, but we have technologies that will mitigate that noise.
They don’t have enough money to explore? hahahaha they’re running out of places TO explore so it’s profit now while the taking is good.
Alito has recused himself from the case. It’ll be 4-4 letting the damages stand.
Just had to turn on the teevee after all these comments. He is worse than pathetic.
Why don’t we just stop buying oil and use our reserves for a while. That will drop the price overnight.
IMPEACH
he wants to sequester coal. hahhaha

By many measures, this shouldn’t be a record week for oil and gasoline prices.
Fuel inventories are at 14-month highs, gasoline demand is down nearly 4 percent from this time last year and the U.S. economy is sluggish. The country is so flush with gasoline it actually exported some to oil-rich Nigeria this month.
Yet Houston and other parts of the state hit record gasoline prices on Tuesday, with AAA Texas reporting $3.045 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline. Oil also set a record Tuesday, closing at $100.88 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange — and set a intraday high this morning by reaching $102.08..
The point being that North America, short of some really rapacious practices way beyond “robust,” cannot supply the needs the GOP constantly complains environmentalists are keeping them from. To get North American oil production up to levels where imports woud be reduced would require a lot of offshore drilling off the lower 48 coasts, and rquire tearing up thousands and thousands of miles of the US and Canadian Rockies, going after oil shale.
For the amount it would take to bring Bush’s dreams to fruition – about $650 billion, we could develop some awesome infrastructure for renewable and alternative non-nuclear solutions.
I was not aware of his recusal.
Thanks.
Thats some catch, that catch-22.
i have zero pathos for that man…pure evil little misscreant
I have cut my driving miles in half this year. I think others are as well. Demand will be dropping as these prices shoot up.
MERKINS need to do a general strike imo
((( ET ))) How are you, Sir ?
me too…i will fight these creatins
Well keep in mind that oil is in no way a free market, so supply and demand have little relevance when it comes to oil.
Can you spell collusion?
Re energy. His timeframes are wrong. His math doesn’t add up. His priorities are either nonexistent or misplaced. Conclusions: He’s an idiot and we are screwed.
i also have kept the house pretty cool 63d but it is ok
And of course Exxon which made about $50BB in profit last year is fighting to not pay civil penalties in Alaska. Great PR ain’t it?
Doin’ alright, petro. Please note how I stand above against tearing up the Canadian Rockies.
They will not rest until they have raped and ravaged every damn thing they can in the name of money. We could make good headway in getting a decent rail system for those kind of bucks. Pigs
we will fight him and his ilk
what do you expect when getting advice from a man was bottom of his class at the naval academy, so low, he was close to dropping out but that wouldn’t be acceptable in his family
for gods sake, the man was sixth from the very bottom, he graduated 894th out of 899
wiki that for the source if you want to read it yourself
I just hope that McCain will keep providing the opening…and Obama graciously taking it…for the reminder that those folks were not in Iraq until W opened wide the door. Come on in and join the chaos and the rage at the US.
Heckava Job, W.
Lack of supply is not the reason oil prices are high. Demand is not the reason oil prices are high. Bush has destroyed the value of the dollar. That is the reason oil prices are high. Why is it that the Preznit escapes responsibility here? His policies are the reason the dollar has crashed. Mission Accomplished.
Me too … but the Blue Eyed Sheiks in Alberta have Harper & Chin-ee in their corner …
a couple of families are reaping zillions while the rest of us deal with austerity….
Me too but it is not so easy to get bread to rise!
It’s because you are. Republicans shamelessly filibuster everything in the Senate requiring 60 votes to move forward on anything. Why aren’t they for up or down votes there? It’s only on their issues and when they think they can peel off the usual conservative backstabbing Democrats.
you are so cute,he will be gone in 11 months, then the stall mukkkers can come in and clean up his massive poops
it’s not that he’s 71 – lots of folk still have good memories at 71. i heard howard zinn give a talk when he was 80 – and he was great (especially during the q&a). look at chomsky, who, i think, is close to 80 now. i don’t think it’s his age, i think it just who he is.
No better place for McCain to dig himself in deeper than Tyler Texas,
the Montgomery Alabama of Texas… island of revanchist Civil War goons
and flipped out fundies just love hot war talk and don’t mind how many
die for their entertainment. Let the man talk…
I wish Obama would detonate the myth that “al Qaeda in Iraq” has a direct connection the bin Laden/al Zawahiri organization.
But remember, we need to factor in what’s happening with Chinese consumption too.
diplomatic head butts? WTF
“to” the bin Laden/al Zawahiri organization.
escusa.
About half of the current increase in oil prices has come from the fall in the value of the dollar. The other half has been a bid up in commodities’ prices driven by hedge funds using heavily leveraged money to recupe losses from the subprime fiasco.
did massive drinking and partying,a known neuron killer
I just paid $3.55 a gallon for diesel for my little Golf TDI. Fortunately, I’ve tuned it up, and it is getting 44 mpg on the winter fuel mix.
Now I’m just speaking for me, but I for one, think Attaturk is usually quite coherent.
Even for a turk.
But there is Earl Campbell.
And, Stevens.
Jane has a new thread
And, a beer bong.
I heard McCain say yesterday that if we left Iraq. al Qaeda would take Iraq over. At best al Qaeda represented about 5-10% of the Sunni insurgency. Against it you have both the Kurdish Peshmerga and Shia militias including the Muqtada al Sadr’s Mahdi Army. If McCain doesn’t understand even this simple arithmetic, how can anything else he has to say about Iraq be trusted?
Absolutely, he is from the rose growing country north of town between
Swan and Lindale, fine country folks… man could carry the mail back
in the day, nearly beat the Steelers by himself.
Thanks…I’m headed to the airpory in a few…but will be online back to FDL from there…wifi hot spots…and my friend’s broadband…
Yeah, that was the trouble. Bum Phillips used time after time when he was virtually by himself.
I’m so glad that the WAR will be over soon.
Can’t wait until we begin the OCCUPATION.
Wired has new pictures of citizenship Ghraib up via TMP. Couldn’t bring myself to link it.
Those two bastards pictured above advocate these atrocities to protect the American people. You know what? Fuck. You.
Don’t attach my citizenship to your shit.
These beings were not raised right.
The Hague should kick their fucking doors down.
“and maybe, just maybe, cause a public meltdown in response to a reporter’s question.”
Surely not John “Mellowman” McCain?
We can always tell when he’s about to erupt. Mount St.McCain’s eyes grow beady and his expression gnarly, and his lip curls up into a sneer just before he blows up… And it is inevitable he will “lose it” more than once between now and November, and hopefully that he will lose it in November….
Especially if, after one of his fearful conjectures about the Islamic threat we face, some reporters are willing to ask him if he read David Ignatius’ column today, or just ask him if he has read the book Ignatius features in that article, by Marc Sageman, that defies McCain’s fear-and-warmongering about worldwide jihad. Like Larry Johnson, Scott Ritter and some other noble excptions, Sageman is a real expert, who deals in reality-based research, not delusional propaganda.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..inionsbox1
If McCain claims to have more expertise than Sageman, and disputes this expert’s opinion, he just proves again that his casual walk through McCain Plaza in Baghdad was one more horse and pony show contrived to deceive the American public and conceal our diplomatic failures behind a curtain of questionable military “progress.”
From what I recall, and from what we are seeing now, McCain’s straight-talk express has always been driven on a crooked road…
Hard to vote for someone who displays unclear, inconsistent thinking about the war.
Where precisely is this Al Qaida “base” in Iraq and, if we know where it is, why has Bush refused to attack it?
There is NO al Qaida base in Iraq. And there is no way that they will establish one if the US leaves. Our presence acts as a terrorist magnet, gives them a reason to fight and makes other NATIONALIST groups who want us out, willing to form alliances-of-convenience with them.
Why would al Qaida want to persist to stay in an area that have no religious or ideological ties with them once we leave. These folks would do far better in parets of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, or Yemen. Iraq is a dead-end for them…Iraqis are almost negligible in the ranks of this wannabe “Al Qaida in Iraq”. THEY would be the “foreign meddlers” once we leave. To think that they could “take over” is the most moronic statement that has been made by McCain yet.
Bush was a failure at everything he did and was always saved by his family.
McCain was as bad in college, shot down and held prisoner of war in Vietnam and a Republican in politics who let Bush people steal his campaign organization blind.
They sound like soul-mates to me.
But, Bush had a family to save him. Who saved McCain’s butt every time he was tanking? Big Money?
We need people who can succeed and make government work for America. McCain is not that person.
