When last we checked in with John Boehner, he was whining about how much the NRCC's fundraising "sucked." Now he's getting angry.
House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) challenged Republicans on Tuesday to get off their “dead asses” and start raising money for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Potty mouth!
And this is pretty funny:
According to numbers read during the Tuesday morning meeting, only 15 Republicans have met their pledged fundraising goal for the dinner. Among them are Texas Reps. Mike Conaway and Pete Sessions and South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson, a source familiar with the fundraising totals said. Another 42 have set a pledged target but failed to contribute the bulk of that money. And an astonishing 142 members — almost three-fourths of the Republicans in the House — have failed even to set a fundraising target.
I guess the lesson here is when you annoint a Faulknerian man-child as your party's leader, who then proceeds to lose two wars and generally run the country into the shitter, donations tend to dry up.
Politics is funny that way!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
John Boehner: WATB.
May this good fortune extend to November and beyond.
Boner’s a little cranky, his back hurts and he has been ordered onto a tanning bed indefinitely…
It is the product they are selling - few are buying it anymore.
David Dreier must have been offended. His ass surely isn’t dead.
But this is good news for the GOP, right?
From your link
Now, don’t get me wrong, chronic back pain is horrible medical issue affecting millions… …but is this why he cries?
And all this time I thought it was the plight of the snowflake babies…
Of course.
Hey BT -
I actually got a call the other day from the RNCC. It was the day that the House Repugs walked out on the FISA bill. I couldn’t believe it. I had to think fast in order to have some fun with the poor schnook on the other end.
I kept asking him if we were going to be attacked. He had no idea how to handle a call where the person on the other end wasn’t quite giving the right answers. Close, but not quite.
I finally let him know that I was not a Republican, but not before I asked him how I could get on the email list for all the talking points that all the commentators were using. I think I had him on the phone for at least 10 minutes. What fun!
And then there’s this.
may the GOP and the hatred they represent and implement wither and die as the undertakers pump embalming fluid into Buckley’s mortal remains.
may the GOP office holders know personal defeat and economic failure.
Their impoverishment, defeat, and - where possible - prosecution for crimes in office is the first step in restoring our Republic.
Glad to see Boehner with real cause for tears.
May they find them daily.
I suppose when you think about it, baby Boehner has plenty of reasons to cry. Maybe we can help him find a few more reasons over the next 8 months?
“dead asses” what is that code for DLC dems who are siphoning off funds from the GOP.
So the Repugs are crying “show me the money” - it really makes me laugh. All these years of draining the treasury and they don’t have enough to campaign for their in-trouble members. How simply delicious.
The GOP is as they say the party of big business . So what does it say about the GOP when they can’t raise money?
Maybe that the economy sucks? Gas Prices are to high? The dollar is dropping so low that foreigners want to be paid in Euros?
Or maybe big business itself thinks that the GOP has as much chance of wining in November as the Surge has of working.
After years of Mega-churches and the religious right pimping Commander Codpiece, the IRS has finally decided to investigate a potential church-political campaign violation.
Barack Obama speaking at his church.
Wow, any more talk about dead asses and boehner will start blogging! and we can’t have that! Isn’t the GOP the party of dead asses anyway?
Dear Representative Boehner:
“You think that’s bad? I’ll give you something to cry about!”
What a beautiful prayer!
It is entirely possible that we are actually witnessing the end of a political party. As the GOP becomes less successful and more solely regional, its future becomes more limited. Within ten years, we could see the rise of a new political party — a progressive party — as the Democratic Party becomes the happy home of corporatists fleeing the racism and theocracy of the dying GOP.
This could be worth watching, and fun to soak in as well.
I hate this…it’s okay for Mitt the Mormon to get a pass on the religious litmus test, but let’s send Obama through the x-ray machine to see how green his soul is.
I knew they were the party of under-age asses.
Republicans are too busy cheerleading the Iraq war and boasting about their handling of the economy to do anything so mundane as fundraise. No doubt they think they don’t need to and that voters will greet them with rose petals at the polls this fall.
I thought it was a Spell/Curse/Appeal for justice?
I think they expect Codpiece and Darth to fundraise their way out of their current problems. Who pays to see that old show anymore, anyway?
i think i’ll join you in that happy place :)
On second thought prayer works also.
I was wondering about that too. Kind of a slinky effect where the DINOs absorb the sane conservatives (any that are left, like dear Suzanne) and Progressives secede to form a new party.
something like that? Is that what you said?
yeah, prayer is often a double edged sword, eh?
CNN reporting Lewis to switch from Clinton to Obama.
MSNBC reporting poor McVain, he’ll have to be “sensitive” campaigning against Obama or Clinton. And the foreshadowing of the frame as enabled by MSNBC continues. Poor
McVainMcVictim….What a wonderful thought! Spend a few years watching the Republicans twitch and expire, then watch a truly progressive party emerge!
I would love the chance to ignore/forget the GOP and spend some time whoopin the Dems into shape.
McFallguy?
Maybe fundraising sucks because they can’t think of anything else to put in the goody bags besides flag pins. Maybe they should set up a photo booth for the mug shots. Good party fun.
Craig tried live asses and that didn’t work out too well for him.
From Politico this morning via Steve Benen @ C&L:
707!
And it would save time processing them for prison.
You bet! St. Theresa of Avila said “more tears are shed over answered prayers than unanswered ones.”
The GOP’s next talking point will be that once the GOP has selected a Presidential nominee the fund raising money will kick in from all the loyal Bushies.
We just won’t see any of that money go to McCain’s campaign because its all going to go to sham independent third party groups who will make baseless attacks linking Obama to Farahkhan.
You know people like Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, PumpkinHead and NBC News!
Yes, I love the mug shot of Larry Craig wearing his flag pin. You could just cut out the face and use it as the prop for the photos for the other criminals.
See a flag pin, be afraid.
Ah, the delicious irony…their economic laissez-faire policy comes around and bites their own *ss.
corrupt, venal morons.
anybody up for a little metaphorical Republican Fundie Razing?
nice quote.
No doubt the Repubs will be begging for money for their fight against the “Democrat” Party, as they repeat it ad nauseum. I would urge everyone here to call people out when they here this slur, since the Noize Machine is trying hard to make this “the norm” in our vernacular (recently heard Scott Pelley on 60 Minutes using it), instead of the correct DemocratIC Party. Even William F. Buckley felt it was childish and wouldn’t use it, despite his idealogical brethren asking him to do so.

I am sad at hearing about Buckley passing. Sad about him as a person who has died, and sad about an era of debate he represented. I believe in checks and balances and want people from all sides providing reasoned feedback on any leader’s positions. Problem is, BigMedia has succeeded by and large at dumbing down the electorate (so they’ll keep voting in favor of BigMoney, and against their own interests) and there are few Buckleys around anymore. BigMedia pushes Timmeh, Coulter, and Lush instead.
I hope we can have national discourse again where someone like Buckley is a leading voice of Conservatives, and shift the pendulum so that the “middle” is so far left that Buckley would be considered an extremist, albeit one who can defend his positions well, and that the current most popular Repub talkers are just simply laughed at by the electorate. We are moving this the direction I think, which is encouraging.
I am SHOCKED and so SURPRISED!!!

WASHINGTON (AP) - When Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald wanted to find out what was going on inside Vice President Dick Cheney’s office, the prosecutor in the CIA leak probe made a logical move. He dropped a grand jury subpoena on the White House for all the relevant e-mail.
One problem: Even though White House computer technicians hunted high and low, an entire week’s worth of e-mail from Cheney’s office was missing. The week was Sept. 30, 2003, to Oct. 6, 2003, the opening days of the Justice Department’s probe into whether anyone at the White House leaked the identity of CIA operative Valerie Plame…
banking on bankruptcy
“relaxed internal financial controls”
“lack of oversight”?
Money and politicians is like ###### and addicts. You just can’t expect them to control themselves.
I would but I’ve got to get my butt moving.
Back later.
One would assume that the goopers want clinton2 as the candidate so that they can fill their coffers.
What a coincidence it’s that particular week of missing emails. Probably just an “accident.”
Sensitive? funny Bush calls his kid a bastard and McCain gives Bush a Hug!
Neither Hilary or Obama will ever go that low. But McCain is worried about being PC? Well don’t be just ask first if its ok before you hug Obama or Hilary.
My favorite part of the whole article:
HAHAHAHAHAHA.
Yup, John McCain’s such a fundraising tool that his campaign’s about to go dark for six months even if he does illegally opt out of the Federal funding program. Tool, yes; fundraiser, not so much.
He’s been the front-runner for months now, and John Edwards raised more money than he had when Edwards bailed a few weeks ago. When the front-runner of your party needs to take out a bank loan to stay in the race, that’s a bad sign.
Yeah, LOL!
Just like the “accidental” loss of the 60 Minute feed at the Huntsville AL CBS affiliate Sunday night.
ic that too :)
Has Bohner contemplated whether the continued lock step support of George Bush and his policies has a direct correlation with their inability to raise money? Oh wait, I forgot we are talking about GOOPERS here. They do not have rational thinking skills.
Maybe we’ll see Timmeh ask McCain about the sweetheart protection “some say” he got for his Republican cronies in the Abramoff investigation… and Timmeh will interrupt, and wave papers, and follow-up and ask real, serious questions….
oh, you don’t think so either?
Maybe the best place for the nations next prison would be half way between the Capitol building and the White House where every new incumbent would have to pass it on inauguration to office. It must be in plain and obvious view of the Capitol and the deliberations that occur there - as a warning of things to come.
The lack of money suggests that the Main Stream Medias attempt to sell the war to the American people is not working. You can only sell people fear and lies for so long. You can’t keep saying that we are wining in Iraq when gas prices are over $3.30 a gallon in Seattle
When kids born on Oct 7 2001 the day we invaded Afghanistan will be turning 7 soon, going to first grade and have never known anything but war.
Real question: why did/do the Democratic contenders for President agree to have a debate with Russert as moderator?
And can’t Obama or Clinton, whoever wins the nomination insist that a reasonable person moderate debates between Democratic and Republican nominees?
Traders in the pits of the CBOT gave Ron Paul a big cheer this morning, when Paul accused the FED of trying to save banks, at the expense of inflation and employment, by lowering interest rates contrary to market forces.
Bernanke did own that his expertise and interest was concentrated in banking, not inflation and employment.
This attitude should surprise Congress no end.
Front page of the SF Chronicle this morning - pictures of dads telling their kids goodbye- they are leaving for Iraq for the FIFTH time. Appalling…
“…a Faulknerian manchild…,” Do you mean like Benjy? Jeez, I think we would all upchuck at the shallowness of stream of Bush’s consciousness.

Ron is right on this one but the traders think this too? No wonder the GOP isn’t getting any money they have hurt their base the economic elite and have started to believe their own spin on the economy.
5 deployments right there we have our campaign ad for November.
Hundred years war McCain however wants their grandkids to know nothing but war too!
Tell Cheney to cut ‘em a check from his slush fund.
Amazing, really, the Party that goes through money by the pallet load can’t seem to come up with any now.
Try looking in Iraq asshole.
New one from Feingold: A Debate Worth Having…
I still disagree with terror/security frame but Feingold is a centrist I can deal with.
Poor Boner. He yelled for his people to get off their dead asses and what did he get in response? A bunch of wealthy old white men saying, “But it’s hahd werk!”.
Lazy, lazy, lazy, those republicans are…
*shaking head*
oh the sound and the fury of penniless repubs.
Feingold is not a centrist. That’s silly talk. He’s one of the strongest progressives in the government.
Centrist from my vantage point.
Christy is upstairs askin for a little help with the AP.

“A tale told by an idiot….signifying nothing.” Kinda sounds like Alberto Gonzales testimony.
Ballots with a paper trail should be adopted for November or Rove & Co will steal another election … by a whisker, just to p*ss us off …
What is particularly tasty about all this is that the thugs were running an extortion racket with the private sector (only to happy to go along as long as they got part of the cut). They have since lost their ability to break significant legs, while the breakees, having caved in to the extortion, have lost their ability to buy the next election. Of course, all this depends on Obama being able to outflank Hoyer and Rahm on the ground game and fund-raising front.
This is as much fun as watching Godfather I for the fifteenth time.
No need to cut a check. Do you really think 8.8 billion dollars of cash on pallets really was lost?
Darth’s got at least half in his basement.
The Republicans don’t need to raise as much money. They get “free” airtime on radio, teevee and in the newspapers. Helps when you have Rupert Murdoch shilling for you.
Well he’s a pitcher after all.
behind the beam
he grunts and groans
the catcher is ready
here comes the throw
A steal from third
and he’s been caught
yer out said the ump
I doth protest
in vain he pleaded
My pitch was true
yer out said the ump
No more pumps
for you
I might actually feel sorry for McCain when this Election is over … from kos, McCain V Obama on Iraq
RNC is doing fine. They have tons of money. The senate and house funds are sucking wind, but the general fund is exponentially larger than the dems.
Ha! The party of plutocracy is crying poormouth. Ironic, ain’t it?
