So I was getting my hair done yesterday and somebody asked what I do and I did that inner groan and coughed it out -- "I'm a blogger." The cringe started even before the inevitable "what's a blogger?" came, followed by the equally inevitable "oh -- can you make money at that?" I've made it a life-long point not to pull the movie card, but I have to admit at that point everything inside me wants to go there. "No really, I'm not some loser..."
And then you're just fucked.
Maybe not much longer:
[Perez Hilton] has been negotiating a deal that would provide him with his own imprint at Warner Brothers Records, a division of the music giant Warner Music Group, he said. This was confirmed by several other people associated with the talks who spoke on condition of anonymity because no deal has been made. The talks are preliminary, and an agreement is not certain, but Mr. Lavandeira could receive $100,000 a year as an advance against 50 percent of any profits generated by artists he discovers and releases through Warner Brothers, these people said.
[]
Mr. Lavandeira enjoys sharing his passion for music with readers, he said, but “can’t wait to do it on a larger level.” His prospective label venture “is not a vanity project,” he said.
“I’m really going to be actively involved in it,” he added.
He said he wanted to keep the names of acts he hoped to sign to himself for the moment, but thought his partnership could validate the role that blogs and similar sites can play in the music business, which has been straining as sales melt down, and some stars leave major labels. Madonna, he noted, is departing Warner Music after her next album to release her future recordings through a concert promoter.
“I think I could do a lot for them,” he said. “Madonna’s leaving, Perez is coming.”
Thank you in advance, Perez, for making my next trip to the waxer just a little less painful.

Hi Jane.
Through no fault of my own I know who Paris Hilton is. Who or what is Perez Hilton?
From the link:
“Jive Records, the label that Britney Spears records for, sued Mr. Lavandeira in October for posting unreleased tracks by Ms. Spears, some of which were unfinished. The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Los Angeles, is still pending.”
Commented Perez: “I’m so happy to be working with Warner since now they’ll be
picking up my legal billssupporting my work.”Morning Jane. I have absolutely no clue what this post is about or who these people are. Have I been away too long?
Perez Hilton promotes the Paris Hilton’s of the tubez.
From the first line of the article:
Hi Jane!
Jeez I coulda been a contender. I read the post, then went down and read Scarecrow’s other morning posts, then come back and see that there were only 7 comments!
Hmmm… speaking of famous bloggers:
Prominent Liberal Blogger Takes on the AP
Good Morning, Jane.
Your post made me smile.
It did.
I’m running out, right after I push submit, to get the car washed and get my nails done. Last night I got a new hair do — a 60’s-ish kinda thing, really short in the back, poofy on top and long on the sides. All I need is the heavy eye make up.
So, you’re asking yourself why I’m sharing this?
I’m doing all of this to feel fabulous for a job interview this afternoon.
And, just to feel fabulous.
We being the master of our own fabulousness.
Thus,
Letters to the editors — check.
Lower the personal carbon footprint — check.
Shovel the snow on the driveway — No f’cking way…why I live in LA.
Visualize World Peace — check.
Do what I can to be fabulous — not check yet, but, working on it.
So… in the world of Paris Hilton devotees, you may eventually be seen as a legitimite person who is contributing to society, Jane? That’s encouraging.
Seems a little more effective than writing “Fuck You!” across Nedra’s photo…
good luck demi!
So will we have an FDL styled obit on Wm. F. Buckley? I’ll be interested in reading a thread on this now departed icon of the right.
Thanks.
God willing and the creek doesn’t rise.
And, may I add…have a fabulous day your sweet old self.
Why, yes, random nosy people, one can not only make money at blogging, one can change the world we live in.
Rock on, Jane.

I didn’t have a clue either until the GF clued me in. I really don’t get Perez Hilton..really, who gives a sh** about this stuff..maybe people who voted for Bush?
old???? please, I’m in denial. Don’t burst the bubble.
lol, yup :)
Oh, I’m glad I stayed on for a sec…saw the Rev/Deb comment about Buckley.
Maybe I can catch an online obit tonight…
But, whatever else, among really A Lot of stuff to say about William…
The Rush Limbaughs and whomever on Fox that we like to make fun of…they’re Nothing compared to what Bill Buckley was.
I’m old enough to remember the play between him and Gore Vidal.
And, I will always remember him, tilting his head back, and that “Ah, ah, ahhhhh.”
We may not have agreed with his politics, but he was a brilliant mind, and I’ve read his columns for years to get the other side…a take not in my hymnal.
:(
William F. Buckley: He was to our parents generation what people like Hugh Hewitt and Bill O’Reilly are to ours.
All in context, baby, the Context!
Stay in your bubble.
It’s working for ya!
(singing)…if you are among the very Young At Heart…
(Hey, I’m double nickels and just got a silly hair cut…ya know?)
You did Not just say that.
Our Parents?
Rev Deb - don’t listen to sangemon, I mean This Time.
Okay, I’m saying this, and then I’m leaving, ’cause the price on the car wash goes up after 10.
Equatting William F. Buckley to Bill O’Reilly anywhere, anytime is Just Wrong.
Jane (aka the queen of snark),
Too funny!
Yes! I’m 56. I remember my parents going nuts over the Sunday morning breakfast table about Buckley, just the way my (now grown) kids and my grandbabies see me rail against the wingers today.
And maybe O’Rielly was a bad analogy.
The ages of folks who hang out at the Lake are varied. We’re kind of a multi-generational community so please not to generalize. I remember Buckley well, more for the snide tone in his voice and yes, brilliant, yet misguided mind. My guess is that Christy and Jane who are both younger than I will have much to say about him.
Yeah he patented the Larchmont Lockjaw now used so effectively by Ann Coulter.
And as far as I’m concerned he just fasioned himself an “intellectual” and tried hi best to talk like one, but everythng he said was just wrong.
Just like the Kristols and the Krauthammers and the Buchanans are today.
I don’t think that the Kristols, Krauthammers and Buchanans are nearly as smart as he was. They just try to act as puffy.
And as far as I’m concerned he just fasioned himself an “intellectual” and tried hi best to talk like one, but everythng he said was just wrong.
I believe it’s been pointed out before that just because you disagree with someone else’s point of view, it does not make them dumb, stupid or a non-intellectual.
You seem to be cruising for it this am. :)
Well, that’s my point.
I don’t he was as smart as he thought he was, just self inflated.
media has changed as well.
Maybe a little more like George Will. However, it really seems like only some neocons try to project the olympian air that Buckley did. He wasn’t like O’Reilly. He raised his pinkie and one eyebrow when he asserted the obvious priority of property rights over the runny nosed masses. Like Ann Coulter, he continued to assert that Joseph McCarthy was a hero.
I never said he was stupid, or dumb. My point was that he was constantly puffing himself up and passing himself off as an intellectual.
My parents didn’t see him as one, and neither did I.
Interesting post, Jane. I’m a blogger as well, music blogger to the baddest band in Vegas. We’re soon gonna start live blogging from the gigs, to include live A/V streamed out, free.
I’ve finally stopped “hiding” the fact of my blogging from my Suits CV.
Not to neglect Wm. F. Buckley’s mentor/role model, the late Everett Dirksen, Senator from Illinois, aka “The Wizard of Ooze” in whose footsteps Bill Buckley superseded and surpassed in oratorical splendor.
LOL
OT - Lets not forget the House still has the FISA bill to deal with, maybe today.
A few minor tweaks
I’ve always found Buckley pompous and condescending.
Intellectual? Yes, but pompous and condescending.
Oh, and I forgot to mention wrong on so many issues.
He was fun to watch on TV because of his mannerisms - the eyes, the gazing at the ceiling, and his hands always moving. It was like a puppet show - and no, I don’t think he was stupid at all, just wrong-minded.
If you were on facebook you would see that sagenmon is “our” age.
Unlike Kristol, Buchanan, and ORanty, Buckley was well-educated and articulate.
Like them, he used whatever gifts he had to support and conceal policies that led to endless wars of aggression, racial hatred, despoiling our lands, poisoning our children, and destroying our communities.
May the evil he abetted and supported be remebered before his rhetorical skills - he put those skills in the service of hatred and tyranny.
A truly vile man, with a despicable career.
Not even close by any measure sangemon, my parents would watch him I remember.
Can we get Perez baby to pimp the chimp at Warner Bros.
OT but depressing, which makes me laugh..what ya gonna do

dickextender package here is a blurb to read, as all things it is on the net grains of salt but basically has the frightening gist http://hypertiger.blogspot.com…..event.htmlYes, without the mouth froth
And if you were a kid, mind killingly boring in his hubris.
I’m so happy for Perez Hilton, now hand me that oil filter, would ya?
I’m of that generation, too, and haven’t forgotten his attack in the 1950s on the Yale Economics Department. He was and remained dispicable. A smart rich kid from a family that like the Bushes despised everything FDR achieved for the people of this country. Think Conrad Black, who emulated him, but didn’t have the brains God gave to a peanut. Buckley was a successful Black.
I could never watch but a couple minutes of him on Firing Line. He would peer down his nose with a sneer in his voice as if he had won a point, when he usually hadn’t.
He was adept at slipping and sliding in debate, but I guess you have to be behind an antisocial ideology.
and the music industry dies a sweeter death

Screw the waxer, because your own personal Crimey Tory wants you to never forget how important this was, and still is, to so many of us.
OK?
.
Buckley: crypto-Nazi. A fine epithet.
