Hey Jane!
I’m liking Obama’s closing.
hiya Jane!
Oops– apparently it’s his pre-closing.
good night irene
Debate Coma!
Obama sounds really good here.
It’s the end of the last debate until the next debate.
Jane,
You don’t need to have anything regarding this continuing dog and pony show.
We will all show up and vote for whomever wins because of the Supreme Court. That’s what it’s about for me.
And McCain? Feh.
Brian: “What does Senator Clinton have to do to put you in this Buick, Barack?”
I’m with Raven in the previous thread. Her raging ass is defused.
Jane, think of the kids/dogs/bandwidth.
As a reminder for those of us that had difficulties streaming, Cspan will have the audio up shortly.
Who said that?
I think I’ve made up my mind. I’ll be completely honest here. Chris Dodd sealed it for me today.
I thought Jane was putting the words to Hillary’s picture there when she typed “I got nothin’”
yup–since Edwards left that’s my thought too (but i worry it’s too late even for the Supremes)
I can’t imagine regular folk outside of Ohio are still watching these debates. There are so many of them.
It’s what Hillary has been thinking the last 45 minutes.
Brian William’s question was stupid. Embarrassing.
This reminds me of when I used to officiate high school hoops and some asshole would rag on me the whole game and then want to shake hands after, fuck that.
and, Nothin’s plenty for me…
You cant slam him when he is so complementary.
Clinton’s highlighting one of her major weaknesses: her insider status.
George Costanza.
Now it shifts to the debate on why Harold Ickes should steal Michigan, Florida and delgates both Super and pledged.
Elvis Costello said “Everything is Less than Zero”
President Obama may well prove to be a person for the ages. In this house, we support Obama.
When is this thing over? Or is it over for Hillary?
We’re all safe from Central FL. Ugly storms. No tornado here. Don’t know about the rest of te area.
Is this debate going into overtime?
She learned that Arkansas Junior Civitans pose from Bubba… Basta!
Good night.
Lahoma.
Well that was dull.
she has had to tone it down.
I,I,I, everything is about her
So what else is new?
It seems that her years of experience keeps getting longer and longer… when did it get up to 35 years?
It’s over.
I tell ya if “Meet me in Ohio” meant “get ready to rumble buddy”–I missed the punches.
what would have made it for you?
She’s going to lose Texas, and maybe Ohio.
I’m late to this. Did anyone ask Barack Republicans Have Been The Party of Ideas Obama why he is a Democrat? Or what the values of the party are as distinct from the Republican Party. It’s a pretty basic question.
Timmeh’s “reality”… Terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrists!!!!!
Children’s Defense Fund in the early 70s til now, i think.
If you called those games like you blog, I pity the coach that would try to bully the referee.
Why doesn’t Bill rush up on the stage after each debate?
Such bullshit, huh?
i wish, Dean.
Oh FUCKING Bullshit.
“THe wealthy and connected have had a President for seven years it’s time for the American people to have a president.”
Like she’s not WEALTHY and CONNECTED? Fucking PLEASE!
All day long I suffered reading dyslexia. The “outages” in Florida were “outrages”. That’s how I view our status right now.
Hey…*g*
oh god – is it ovah yet?
Chris Matthews.
Ugh!
My regret is that KO will not be allowed to critique his own network’s dismal performance.
It’s good that they use the sports analogies or else I couldn’t understand anything they say.
Oh, I dunno– it was just a boring debate. Not much in the way of anything exciting or unexpected.
Part of Josh Marshall’s take on the way Russert handled this:
aw–Tweety was bored by them–poor baby. This whole process exists simply to entertain pundits, i guess.
No, just the opposite– they accused him of being a liberal! Well, at least he was honest– he denied it.
ok i see its did…. anything new said? prolly not
Tweety…STFU.
Exactly the same, just call em like ya see em. Also, someone told me that Jane and Christy were bloggers and we are commenters.
After his speech today, he probably is holding back
I’ll second that.
Chris Matthews has become disgusting and unwatchable.
I’m going to bed.
G’nite all.
OK, I got a diagnosis for Russert based on the Medvedev question: he is pompous, very dim, fool. In addition to being a dishonest hack.
I think he was in control. Brilliant. Wow.
obama’s left-handed
cool….
” Will there be a 21st debate”
Please free advertising is well FREE. Notice that Huckabee and McCain are not having this many debates we own the airwaves lets keep them!
i think Russert was trying to prove they weren’t in the tank for Obama with that stuff–now they can say “See? we were tough on him too! We’re not biased against Hillary and for Obama and McCain”
I like to think KO subtly alluded to that with the “90 minutes of them, now 85 minutes of us.” I heard “them” as Timmeh and Williams.
How many more of these bloody debates are there going to be?
The City Beautiful:
http://www.orlandosentinel.com…..108002.jpg
Eeek!!! Run for your life!!!
it was ugly weather. It’s been a crappy winter. Either rain or heat. it’s supposed to be mild & dry. that’s why I moved here, damnit!
I loved hearing his comment about Schiavo.
seriously! : >
You!
Got heaven de whole day long,
Got my song!
Swan song.
Soooo… I just got back from meeting with some of Feingold’s campaign people. Yes, he’s laying the groundwork already for his next election.
Did I miss anything noteworthy?
I agree– the Schaivo comment was nice. Maybe I’m just grumpy :)
Goodnight folks. Time to catch the end of Tennessee-Vandy.
You are not going to get Edwards or Kucinich, move on/
She should have kept pounding the fighter theme.
does he do public financing?
Barn burner
So is Bill Clinton
Why would Ned Lamont, Russ Feingold and Chris Dodd support a “Barack Republican”? I’m still trying to figure that one out.
the debates make me sick…after the push to “knock out”
autographs????
That was good.
Goodnight all.
okk and Lahoma.
KO: “Was she peevish?”
Yeah, I think Obama won tonight.
Some audience questions next time, maybe.
I have no strong preference for either candidate and thought they both did OK. I prefer specifics of HRC proposals, but lean Obama on basis of recent evidence of continuing DLC and big consultant anti-50 state stance of HRC.
Did they have that Wilson guy on? Give him a second chance? maybe he like, read something since the last time.
I did. I’ll vote for whoever the candidate is, but they’re both weak. If a gun was to my head, i’d go Hillary bec she fights at least–she doesn’t need to be a movement like Obama does. It’s a job, and we’re hiring one of them to do it–we won’t be there doing it.
Hillary:
I say again: The Dream is Over!!!!
dommage…vraiment…
renounce vs reject…beautiful!
Experts saying that gas will probably reach $4 per by spring – that ought to really help the Repubs – not.
Far too subtle for me. I’d prefer a straight apology from KO for his colleagues. After all, he apologized for Mathews’ comments on Clinton. Why not apologizie for the Obama smearing by Russert.
That’s an outrage. Tenn #1 in basketball. When is anyone gonna tell these schools that the sec is a football confertence?
Kos poll running 94% Obama as winning debate. No surprise there.
why is graciousness and acceptance not powerful.
In my training it is the most powerful tool of all.
They better not touch one hair on his head.
denounce vs. reject.
You know, I’m really not sure if he’s publicly financed, but, he’s followed not only Feingold-McCain as it is written, but the true intent of the law. He was outspent by his challenger last time because he refused to accept more money from outside WI than he could raise here.
MSNBC is just totally bitchy lately.
I couldn’t believe Olbermann went off on Jon Stewart about the name thing at the Oscars.
I agree that we need better debates but I would rather have us on TV all the time than the GOP.
The second the race is over the MSM and the GOP will find it much easier to spread their lies.
But now if any GOP talking point/lie starts getting traction with the voters it ends up as a high profile debate question where we can ridicule it in front of a bigger audience than the GOP can get for their ideas.
not much. Whats the news on the ground game?
Analysis? Unless Barack Obama is struck by lightning there is no way Clinton can win the 66% of the delegates she needs in Texas and Ohio. In fact, that might actually increase his votes!
If anything Obama won this debate. He took away the “this is a dangerous man” theme, showed he was amiable but willing to stand strong on his views, but unlike Clinton not make it personal. The momentum will continue over the next week. But expect a slow down simply because the “undecideds” and “waverings” are running out.
That’s ideal for Obama, who appears to have paced this thing perfectly. Don’t know if this will start to bleed over to Pennsylvania or Rhode Island, though. Hillary may win those states. But electorally it won’t matter.
We’re going to have to push whomever gets the nod to do the right thing. Neither of them will do it on their own because the corpos will be pushing them in a different direction.
We will have lots of work to do.
Shut up, Tweety.
very cool, noonan–thanks–i wish more were doing that.
Why did Hillary wear the most drab color imaginable?
Hillary: “Solutions” You Have to Google.
Two tremendous candidates. It will be a pleasure to vote for either of them in November.
Tweety now interviewing Timmeh?
Give me a break.
Time to tune it out.
Exactly. More and better Dems will help.
This thread is missing a Cow !
Evenin’ all !
72 county (a la 50 states) strategy again, building now to help out Congressional (in my CD, that’s Kagen) and state races (like me) – which was good news. Keeping us as his eyes and ears to see what the other side is sliming about in the media.
I thought she looked nice tonight… not as colorful as usual, but she was in a serious mood…
Russert now spending time defending his own questions. Someone must have told him the audience didn’t like his participation.
You have said it!!
We can shape either one.
Obama is inviting us to join him. Hillary says I will….
Shit. meant to type “Experience” You Must Google.
Obama is like Ali in his prime. You can’t lay a glove on him.
Agreed. We have work to do no matter what.
Please forgive me, but at least she didnt wear her wall paper jacket *g*
We need more cowbell, too.
They all share the same brain
Greetings from Singapore, thanks for the thread FDL! Can’t stream from here so well, campus internet and all….
lol! :)
McCows for all!!!
YellowDogJim assembled one.
Hello Russert….. McBush has demanded to opt out of public financing …. HELLO… don’t you read the news?
Is it just me or did Hil look kind of angry at times?
Tw3k that is so clever. Mad McCow Disease.
I’ll give Hillary some props for not going ballistic tonight. After her campaign’s bizarre whining over the last few days, I was afraid she was gonna double down on the negativity.
Perhaps though she just realized the more negative she got, the more ground she would lose.
i liked what she was wearing, except when she got up and it was pants instead of a skirt. i especially liked how the pearls just fit in the neckline and the color suited her.
Because i need and demand certain things from my government–we all should be doing so continually. They work for us and are our employees. And sitting Senators make bad candidates–neither of them have experience truly running things.
They don’t deliver, and neither of these two are going far enough at all (The majority of americans want and need true medicare for all, but they don’t want to go that far, i want equal rights, but they won’t go that far, we need a new WPA, but they won’t go that far, etc…)
Evenin’, zombie!
Excellent!
Thanks for the update :)
You’re right. She did look really nice, although the hair wasn’t the best. I would have advised her to wear some color, but oh well!
We have to do something about Russert. Ok, so he has his interview show, but having him framing a national presidential debate is totally ridiculous.
Either way, denounce/renounce is the active aspect of opposition…reject is passive. You can sit on your butt and reject someone elses position, but you have to VERBALIZE a denunciation or renunciation (and actually a renunciation, technically means that you once held those views and have now verbally and publically rejected them).
Whatever…Hillary is wrong in attacking Obama on his use of words. Denounce was the better thing to do…and he did.
I’m glad I didn’t see Russert, I’d be screaming at my teevee
Uhhhh boy cows don’t have udders.
Loved the McCow! Unfortunately, the guy in the office I particularly wanted to give it to cannot be trusted with scissors. I’ll have to make it for him…
“Mad McCow Disease” needs to be regulated!!!111 :)
I went to Vandy and back in the day I saw a bunch of great overtime roundball games with Kentucky and other SEC schools.
Overall: bo-o-o-oring. I learned nothing new about either of them, though I admit I was surprised that he fathered black children and Hillary has a vagina. Who knew?
Oops … I put McCain under the tail … my bad … *g*
That’s udder nonsense ;)
Hey Zombiewolf…I just got back from a couple months in Singers in January? Is it still raining there? How was Thaipusam, this year?
Why do foreign policy questions usually run like this:
Here is an unlikely hypothetical scenario. Would you use violence immediately, yes or no?
It’s kind of sick. And simple minded.
I don’t even like him having his interview show. Why should that asshole (and Tweety) have so much influence on public discourse?
Hi! I’ve spent a good deal of time at the Ritz-Carlton there on Raffles, and had some wild times downtown along the river. That whole strict society is kind of blown outta proportion isn’t it? We never had trouble finding locals to “party” with!
Clinton decided she wished she could pull back her war vote? She could have done that sooner not wishing that she could pull the vote back was her campaigns first mistake.
lol!
at least they’re not talking about her outfit this time.
Totally true. She should have hired me a year ago to dress her. She’d feel much more confident now.
Russert has the perfect face to be a paper mache’ head that spins on top of a carnival funhouse.
-G
I wish my hair look that good.
I’m amazed at how anyone could look as good (both of them) after their grueling schedules.
Sounds like he’ll drop his crayons too :)
And I was struck by the disingenuous line “as I’ve said many times.”
Like when?
Yep … lost the wardrobe edge the last couple of weeks. The makeup was also sub- par, where one previous debates, her face glowed and her eyes shone … I’ll stop now … *g*
Is that because they dont want it or are they wanting to actually achieve health care? I dont have the answer but I hope that is it.
We cant have single payer health care immediately.
the answer’s always supposed to be yes! violence! war! i’m tough! (especially when it’s us Dems, because they don’t even ask Republicans stuff like that–we’re “weak” on war and “security”, ya know)
it sucks.
She did. She wasn’t able to fight the wave.
Hello,
It’s not raining as much. Thaipusam was incredible, my first one. I was in pain watching them.
Would fit better on the House of Horrors.
I called and emailed her campaign today from Texas to say I’d been undecided but that all the negativity had pushed me over to Obama. Looks like it did the trick. /s
He is unpleasant to look at, but even hearing him is almost unbearable.
Niters, pups. Gotta go get stuff for dinner to replenish myself after that gruelling display of Russertism.
There was a debate?
nite kevin
yes, i agree. just setting the record straight.
Senator Byrd, 90, hospitalized.
Wilhelm worked for the Clintons
It depends on who you talk to. The cabbies always have some interesting perspectives. Funny “uncles”..
I agree that she looked totally serious and professional. I just think a splash of color may have given her a fun feeling/look.
Just on an anecdotal note:
My sis-in-law in PA is a huge HRC fan. Has been for a long time. Was realy psyched about this whole woman president thing. (She was also thrilled when a woman became Madam Speaker and she’s seen how that turned out.) She tells me now she’s leaning to Obama. O got the mo.
Two of the old workhorses in the Senate have been hospitalized today. Sen. Robert Byrd who was injured in a fall at home and Sen. John Warner who suffered from heart troubles.
Good luck old boys.
-G
We’ll have to work together to get more and better Democrats in Congress to push for those things. Those reforms won’t happen from the top down.
HE looks like he has some sort of hormonal imbalance.
And the answwer is always “I’d use diplomacy. Then I’d use snactions. but i won’t rule anything out.”
It’s astounding what passes for journalism these days…
Good work!
It’s been fun to watch how slow the Old Guard has been to realize what’s happening with Obama. The Repubs still don’t get it. The more they all, and that means BigMedia, keep trying to crank up the old tricks, the more they alienate themselves. Fun times!
I’ve lost track. How long since his wife died? I wonder if he will die a year after his wife.
Bless his heart, I goad him unmercifully. He’s a good sport about it, and has actually confided that he’ll have to vote for a Democrat this election. For the first time in his life. He’s a vet and can’t stand what’s going on in Iraq.
Is it just me, or do these people have superhuman energy…Unbelievable.
i think we can have big things, if they have the balls to do it.
i think this caution and incrementalism doesn’t help us at all, and we’ve been backsliding compared to other countries since the 70s on social things and the common good. If you start out asking for less than 100%, you end up with very very little and signal that you’re already compromised and weak. If you start out demanding 100% and fight and push stuff thru no matter what–because it’s right and helps us–you end up doing better even if you don’t end up getting the full 100%.
And everything is divisive and partisan, so don’t even start on “unity” or “bipartisanship”–the GOP brags of not giving health care to kids, for god’s sake. They need to be steamrollered.
Yeah, Singaporeans do party…and it’s in some ways a culture of contradictions to Western eyes.
Still the gov’t doesn’t like public expressions of dischord (demos are still banned without permits…i.e. if they will actually be effective in making a point). One-party plutocracy…but starting to listen more to complaints if properly and politely conveyed.
I like Singapore, and Singaporeans, a lot.
Ha! Very interesting place. Enjoy!
That happens. Weird.
I keep doing sun dances to keep John Paul Stevens kicking. He’ll be 88 on April 20 and we gotta keep him healthy till December at least.
better–not more, especially when it’s wimps like Pelosi and Reid in charge.
I can’t stand this Senator-for-life thing–so many them hurt us and are weak. Most need to be challenged in the primaries but the money is always behind incumbents.
Daily Show is new tonight!
Yep.
Get out the Oreos. Pick up some fresh fruit. Go for the trail mix. If it really gets tough, bake some homemade chocolate chip cookies.
I’d use every snack in the book.
“He comes out of this debate with his foreign policy credentials enhanced, looking strong, firm and Presidential.”
- David Wilhelm on MSNBC
Agreed.
Well that is good hear. You are so very well informed I’m sure some of your good influence has rubbed off ;)
Hey, in a few weeks Beerfart comes back with the March Madness Heart over Head Picks. The BF man comming off “Take the New York Football Giants, straight up.” Plewase consult this blog PRIOR to any doing any ofice polls.
Did you know that because of the Bush restrictive policy on stem cell government funding that we’ve lost about 20 of the top stem cell researchers including a husband-wife one of whom was a Dean at U Cal Med to Singapore? It wasn’t about money either–these people already had all they need. It was about support for their research in Singapore.
Are you an American expat…or a Singaporean oddly obsessed with US politics (and watching train-wrecks)?
BTW, a couple of local rightwing AM radio hosts are saying “Barack HUSSEIN Obama” every time they mention Obama’s name. Is there a concensus that when vthey say it the way those guys do it is slanderous, and is there a really good response?
Yup, my Grandma died almost exactly a year after my Grandpa.
True.
I still don’t like the way she claps at rallies. Totally doofy.
“And everything is divisive and partisan, so don’t even start on “unity” or “bipartisanship”–the GOP brags of not giving health care to kids, for god’s sake. They need to be steamrollered.”
Well said, amber. I don’t want to hear about any bipartisanship. You can’t work with those assholes.
Every time I see a display of that ET it just reenforces how desperate they are. If that’s all they can do, it’s pathetic.
Just heard that the good Senator-for-Life Byrd…has had to go to the hospital, though. Hope he comes out okay.
Did anyone know that his son-in-law is an Iranian-American?
your lips to god’s ears, Kevin.
Response? An old standby, maybe? “Fuck you asshole!”
But seriously, that’s not getting any traction. Anybody who might think that matters already believes it does.
LOL
Believe you me, I’ve seriously considered the same thing these past years. Likely will take the leap if McCain gets elected…and fight things from abroad. At some point you need some “brain space” from the madness.
totally–we have “bipartisanship” now and it just means the GOP gets everything and gets to kill good things–and we all lose.
(and i won’t even start on that total bs 60-vote thing and threats to filibuster — but no one ever makes them actually do it.)
An ex-pat. My wife teaches at Nanyang Technological University in the Art Design and Media Department. I’m a freelance guitarist. And I’m obsessed with American politics for the obvious reasons….
If you can’t work with people then you need to marginalize them. The best way to do that is to offer to work with them and when they reject it (as they will), expose them. If you attack immediately you put yourself in a much weaker position because you justify their opposition.
Make the opposition unjustified and you win. Obama understands this.
It’s very hard to know what a place is like unless you spend time there. But they have a very supportive research environment for stem cells and they’re pulling some of our best and brightest in their prime and at the top of their game.
Well, maybe you got nuttin, but Comcast just told the FCC to go screw themselves on Net Neutrality. Those of us who have had Comcast shoved down our throats should cancel and tell them why.
was reading comments and can’t pass this one up—even though i’m epu’d…….
i posted this 2-13-08 about DAVID WILHELM, everyone should know what kinda guy he really is……..i sent letters all over the damn place, seems like i must have missed a few people, didn’t write msnbc.
=================================
david wilhelm, hmmmmmmm……seems like a nice enough guy, good looking, pleasant enough……..
BUT
well, he’s known around these parts………
google lake snowden albany ohio hocking college
there is a lake here that he and a pal tried to develop and make private.
a girl at athens messenger wrote some good articles about it.
it is a public lake, created for water use, many families were ’bought out’ and relocated to make it, now owned by hocking college, long story, it’s in the deed that it remain public access land…….
they tried to thwart that.
one of my friends was directly involved in fighting it.
the locals here even turned out to fight it.
the kind that don’t do that.
you’d a thought someone was trying to take away their rights to own a gun.
the developers pulled out—said that all they were trying to do was bring jobs here……uh huh, waitressing and a cook…….meanwhile, noone would have had access to the best lake in se ohio to camp or fish anymore.
and a corporation would be profiting from public lands, big time…….
they acted like they were the only solution…..we didn’t buy it.
that’s david wilhelm. democrat.
back to shoveling snow…….
and david wilhelm was here last week, in athens, ohio, here’s a quote–
”i’m impressed by barack obama because of his rural development strategy”
um, if it’s the same as david wilhelm’s there’s gonna be nuthin’ left here.
How about the candidates discuss some other very important issues like education, prison reform, and other huge holes in the democratic agenda.
