Hillary Clinton showed a range of emotions from anger to mockery towards the upstart, pretentious Barack Obama. Reacting first to an Obama campaign mailing on health care:
"I have to express my deep disappointment that he is continuing to send false and discredited mailings," Clinton said, holding the fliers in her hand. "He says one thing in his speeches, and then he turns around and does this. It is not the new politics the speeches are about. It is not hopeful. It is destructive."
She added, "Shame on you, Barack Obama. It is time you ran a campaign consistent with your messages in public."
And then showing her range, Clinton pivots Sunday to ridicule Obama on his hopes of taming special interests:
“Now I could stand up here and say, let’s get everybody together, let’s get unified the sky will open, the light will come down, celestial choirs will be singing,” she said, to a smattering of giggles. “And everyone will know we should do the right thing, and the world will be perfect.”
She added: “But I have no illusions about how hard this is going to be. You are not going to wave a magic wand and make the special interests disappear.”
Barack Obama demonstrates an ability to keep his cool in the face of simultaneous attacks not only from his Democratic rival . . .
"She’s essentially presented herself as co-president during the Clinton years. Every good thing that happened she says she was a part of," he said. "So the notion that she can selectively pick what you take credit for and then run away from what isn’t politically convenient, that doesn’t make sense. If she’s suggesting she had nothing to do with economic policy in the Clinton White House, then it would not be fair [to attack her on NAFTA], but as you know, that’s not the claim that she’s making."
. . . but also from announced 3rd party candidate Ralph Nader:
"Ralph Nader’s view is, unless it’s Ralph Nader, then you’re not tough enough on any of these issues," he said. "He thought there was no difference between Al Gore and George Bush. I think eight years later, people realize Ralph doesn’t know what he’s talking about."
He added, "Ralph Nader deserved enormous credit for the work he did as consumer advocate." But, he concluded, "His function as perennial presidential candidate is not helping put food on table."
And responding to the Republican smear campaign on his partiotism:
As for the pin, he said, "if we want to start getting into those definitions of patriotism," then he would come back with questions for a "a party that presided over a war where the troops that didn’t get the body armor they needed" and is "undermining our Constitution with warrantless wiretaps that are unnecessary."
"That’s a debate I’m more than willing to have," he said. "We’ll see what the Americans think is the true definition of patriotism."
And the winner is . . .

Scarecrow!
caw caw
Isn’t this the candidate we’ve been waiting for. Lessee…..
Snark…..check
Intelligence……check
Sincerity……check
I think we have a winner!
MSNBC was writing her obit earlier today…
OT did CBS run the Siegelman story last night on 60 Minutes? How was, it if they did?
YO! I just fell for Obama, and I’ve been holding out since Edwards bowed out.
Yes, CBS’ 60 Minutes ran the Siegelman story — it was excellent.
This campaign has entered a silly season. Clinton staffers are distributing a picture of Obama dressed as a Somali elder, taken during his 2006 trip to Africa. I thought “oh, oh” as I clicked through to Drudge, only to find Obama looking like a volunteer for a Scouting bandage practice session, and still maintaining his dignity. If this is the worst the vaunted Clinton machine could find to throw at him, we’re in good shape.
Is Ohio her Dean scream? Can someone tell we have a Democratic party that is maintaining better unity than the repubs and a Senate that works on courtesy, and she has to back to being a working member of both.
And for this blog, did all our SJC fans of Whitehouse notice how he enjoyed the celestial heavens remark? Thought better of him. Can someone explain.
See ya.
Also epu’ed.
the US code establishes flag etiquette. there are however no punishments for its violation, as far as I can see. IANAL.
Yes they did and it was very damning. But scheduled as it was, don’t know if anyone but us watched it.
Transcript and video here.
“Entered” the silly season? It seemed to me like the whole thing has been the silly season.
It was very damning and the reaction from Karl Rove and others (through their attorneys no less!) was to DENY, DENY, DENY. See? Business as usual.
60 minutes. Siegelman.
Except to Northern Alabama, where it was blacked out due to an error they blamed on NY feed, and NY says to Scott Horton is a blatant lie. Big diary last nite on the tv thing but no time to link it. input from tv techies to show it had to be deliberate at some level but cld be by a low level person.
Also a companion diary on the corrupt judge mark fuller. siegelman can’t appeal because they won’t give him a transcript of the trial.
it’s a travesty. it’s soviet. no. it’s Roviet.
everyone
these two candidates are incredible and whichever of these two politicians win the office, they will be recorded among the greatest presidents that have ever served our country
Once upon a time not long ago the country would have been shocked by such a thing. Thanks to the crooks and liars that have infested our govt. it is now ho hum.
Yes, they did, and I thought it was very good. If the investigations go where they should go, then Rove could be in some hot water.
pretty sure it’s not us.
BIG “IF” there. I’m not holding my breath.
i take it back, i was wrong.
and the winner is…. RevDeb!
EPU’d from downstairs:
I get the feeling that the national consciousness has figured out the cons game and is sick of it. I get the feeling that the more they do this type of thing, the deeper the hole they are in gets.
It isn’t going to work anymore. We’ve got a freight train bearing down on us, and the people that are going to be hit hardest are those red state working class Nascar Republicans with the McMansion and the Escalade. Those are the people that are finally waking up, and when they do, the Republican party as we know it will be finished.
really selise?
you don’t think either of these candidates will serve us well?
samatha powers (foriegn policy advisor to obama) interview on democracy now!
Good post.
I am embarrassed for Hillary and impressed at how presidential Obama is acting.
I wonder what shed do if she didnt have such high paid handlers?
Smart woman; did you see her at the conf. in boston with emptywheel not too long ago?
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Obama is really, really good at slipping these punches, and jabbing back.
He worries me; this is our opportunity to really fix health care in this country, and he is even further behind the curve than Clinton. But he is not gonna be easy to smear.
far, far better than what we have now? absolutely!
but if you’re asking do i think they will do what they can to turn us away from corporatism, militarism, imperialism and do what necessary for the future of the planet or even implement a decent universal health care for americans? no.
For all the Obama supporters who chose to watch the Oscars last night instead of seeing what the Republican smear machine is capable of by watching the 60 minutes piece, its an important story that you could be helping to bring to the forefront with all your mouse clicking if you care to put some energy into fighting the Republicans instead of supporting a candidate that wants to hold hands with them.
Amen, pupster! This weekend tipped the balance for me. Scarecrow, I took a lot of flack yesterday for suggesting that Clinton had gone over the top and down the far side. Bless you for more eloquently making that case!!
no. i didn’t – i only went to see marcy and the ma folks.
powers is very, very smart. and she scares the hell of me – she is very good at convincing left of center americans to bomb the hell out of people.
HRC looks like a candidacy run by Mad magazine. She should at least maintain some dignity, as she gets sent packing.
And that asshole Kristol did a knife job on Obama, misquoting to make the point.
It’s going to be the job of We The People to move him and the government where we want it to go.
The good news is that if we win big we will have a president and a congress who will be willing to let that process happen.
Exactly RevDeb. Sad isn’t it?
Good Morning Scarecrow,
Helen Mirren in her red dress!
Oh, you meant the candidates…
Say more, please. Didn’t see either.
Well, good morning to you too, Glenn.
Ye of little faith? Obama’s not stupid, but I question the intelligence of those who claim he is.
Absolutely Healthcare will be a difficult one but it can be done…must be done.
Heard last night that doctors have a new income stream with online consults.
Way beyond sad. Tragic at least.
It’s neither sad nor tragic. It’s criminal.
Scott Horton on 60 Minutes & Siegelman
Off the Air in Alabama
I am now hearing from readers all across Northern Alabama—from Decatur to Huntsville and considerably on down—that a mysterious “service interruption” blocked the broadcast of only the Siegelman segment of 60 Minutes this evening. The broadcaster is Channel 19 WHNT, which serves Northern Alabama and Southern Tennessee. This station was noteworthy for its hostility to Siegelman and support for his Republican adversary. The station ran a trailer stating “We apologize that you missed the first segment of 60 Minutes tonight featuring ‘The Prosecution of Don Siegelman.’ It was a techincal problem with CBS out of New York.” I contacted CBS News in New York and was told that “there is no delicate way to put this: the WHNT claim is not true. There were no transmission difficulties. The problems were peculiar to Channel 19, which had the signal and had functioning transmitters.” I was told that the decision to blacken screens across Northern Alabama “could only have been an editorial call.” Channel 19 is owned by Oak Hill Capital Partners, who can be contacted through Rhonda Barnat, 212-371-5999 or rb@abmac.com. Oak Hill Partners represents interests of the Bass family, which contribute heavily to the Republican Party.
I a finally an Obama supporter. I watched it. If I recollect, one of the most forcefull people on the program, stating that the whole thing was an injustice and political assassination by the Bush DOJ, was former AZ Republican Atty. General and McCain campaign official, Grant Wood. I was actually encouraged that there may still be a few Republicans who believe in justice.
What are you using to move your cursor and select?
I said last night that we should begin to support Gov. Siegleman in earnest. Let America know that Bush has begun taking political prisoners.
Why do you think he wants to hide e-mails from the RNC?
-G
i agree completely that it’s up to us, but i don’t think most of the dems in congress want what we want. that said, i think it’s our job to make them act in our interest. and i think that is possible.
While I agree that Obama need lots of encouragement to make the changes progressives want to see, I am impressed with his ability to handle all the attacks so well. He displays an even temperament that will contrast greatly with that of the current incumbent and should help with his goal of rallying support for his initiatives. I’m an Edwards supporter and am hopeful that the American people – with the help of a new, more progressive Congress- will be able to move him in the right direction. I’m sorry to see where Hillary’s campaign has gone- it’s embarrassing.
Buchanan saying on Imus “the country wants to be rid of the Republicans. Because of the war, Bush…”
Obama can beat McCain. “The battle of the general election may be for Hillary’s voters.”
So, ummm, is Glenn a grenade lobber? I’m irregular here lately (I know, I know, try Senecot), given our cancer stuff, so trying to ID the players.
No mention at all of 60 Minutes on Imus’ show this morning. Any other morning shows reporting? crickets, huh?
Someone had a quote up over the last week about FDR being reluctant to pursue the progressive policies that were asked for by a group of people talking with him. He said something to the effect that he agreed with them in spirit but they were going to have to make him do the right thing. That spoke to where I think we are. We are going to have to make him do the right thing. We’ve got lots of work to do.
surprised?
not.
Wow — someone should lose a license over this.
that is STUNNING
It would be cool if Obama were holding back till in office to reveal his ‘appallingly librul’ plans. Right out of a storybook, methinks.
Excellent point. That’s my impression of him as well. I think with Hillary WYSIWYG.
I don’t think we will be holding our collective breath waiting.
Well that’s why the down-ticket races are as important as the presidency.
In addition to new president we need more and better Democrats.
We are about to fundamentally change our government. That is what the Obama campaign is all about.
attaturk, would be nice if you did a thread on this
I agree, but this is what we have right now, all we can do is begin
you know neither of these were my choice at all, we are left with the hand we are dealt
What does the FCC and St.McBush’08™ have to say about it being selectively blacked out?
IOKIYAR!
Stick with this one…more too come I’m sure.
(yes, I am diggcrazy) I posted this last night about the Siegleman story:
One way to get more eyes on this is through digg
I’ve tried six ways from Sunday to get a direct link to the digg for the Siegleman story but it has to be done through the page at
sixty minutes
scroll down to the bottom and the digg button is there, you can also digg the video itself by clicking on the share-embed link right under the vid. So digg twice!
.
and digg Scarecrow too!
Didn’t I just read that the FCC is soliciting comments from the public? Not about manipulating in this fashion, but perhaps a venue for speaking truth to power outage?
methinks/hopes that there will be a huge blogswarm on the whole 60 min. debacle. The story. The efforts to keep it in the can.The timing of the broadcast. The blackout of AL stations. The *crickets* from the rest of the media and the DOJ . . . .LOTS of material to work with.
You’ve got other folks writings scheduled to come down the pike. I’m sure somebody here will be picking this up today — besides me.
I don’t want to screw up the time schedule.
It was also appalling. I so hope one day to see members of the Bush administration brought to justice!
yes. and the way you say it is inspiring.
from a new zinn piece i quoted from in the previous thread:
i think you might enjoy reading the whole thing.
I’ve been trying to stay positive about both our canidates through this thing, but Hillary is starting to make me really uncomfortable. If she isn’t careful she’s gonna burn the place down. I’ve always had really positive feelings for both Clinton’s, but, I guess I never made all that much attention to the way they operate. I was in college during the impeachment ordeal and thought it was brutally unfair. Which, made me an even bigger supporter. Now, I have almost all regard for both. Espacially after Hillary mocked Obama over the weekend. It seems, and I’m going to get yelled at for this comment, Hillary is kind of a dick. I don’t want to be mean, but this is getting to ugly for me not to point out.
Senator Clinton will be balls to the wall tomorrow night. It’s all she has left in her quiver. All other attacks have been exhausted and failed. She will throw the party under the bus for her own attempted gain and face-saving. It will be interesting to see if Senator Obama takes the bait. I expect his level-headed and balanced temperment will prevail. He’s got this thing won and everyone knows it. The Clinton camp is just playing the game to its end. She conceded after WI, but she has a never-say-die characteristic that she doesn’t want tarnished. She’ll need that in her future endeavors in the Senate and beyond.
Yes! more and better Democrats
that’s where i disagree – i don’t think we have to be limited by the electoral choices were are given. zinn says it much better than i ever could.
I, like several here, believe it’s up to us, but what does that mean? Supporting better Democrats is not only difficult and in many places impractical, it leaves “us” out of it or makes our contribution extremely indirect. We should talk about organizing a nationwide demonstration of people power. A year after John Lennon died there was nationwide mourning as people gathered nationwide. In Bpt, CT., the response was small, about twenty five. That certainly won’t cut the mustard. I don’t know what the demonstration should be or how to organize it online, but that is something we should talk about.
Yes, I think so.
Help!!! I’m stuck in a waiting room getting service on my vehicle. Fox and Friends is on the toob. After this commercial, they will have a pretzel that looks like Mary and Jesus.
I swear I did not make that up!
Oh Jeeeezzz. Hang tough??
I wonder how she will be able to change and support him in the general?
Link for filing a complaint with the Republican dominated FCC.
I’ll try. At least they have wireless and coffee.
change the channel
I do it all the time in waiting rooms.
read zinn (linked above).
sorry that’s all i have time for – gotta run to a doctor’s appointment.
later pups!
Hillary Clinton is your best chance to achieve progressive goals, such as universal healthcare. She offers more than platitudes and foggy bromides that many “progressives” are addicted to. The fact is that more Republicans are crossing over as Dems for a Day to give you their Democratic choice. True Dems are for Hillary. Obama is not the leader we need now, if ever. I hope this site will provide due diligence and research for Firedoglake followers.
707 !!!
The FCC has a strong track record for ignoring input from citizens and public hearings, even and especially if that input is overwhelmingly opposed to the FCC druthers in the matter. The only way to pressure the FCC is through Congress, and this is a dicey approach too. Sad times.
What a hoot! That’s what I’m going to be doing in less than one hour.
Fox News is a festival of igorance.
-G
True Dems are for Hillary.
Ummm, excuse me, ma’am? That sounds a tad judgmental. I am blue to the core, and I am supporting Obama. True Dems believe in choice. Just sayin’.
I think that the people should show up at the inauguration of the next present and make it known ten and there. Can you imagine a million people gathering on the Mall during the inauguration. Lot’s of signs, lot’s of street theatre, but most important of all, lot’s of people.
What a statement that would make.
Update: Fox and Friends claim bidding is up to $2 million on the Mary and Jesus pretzel on EBay.
I heard that George Bush ate it.
You’re all jealous because progressives don’t have a program like Fox and Friends. Steve Doochy is the best eva. You can’t handle the DOOCH!!
I love the segue to Star Trek love tips
Would that be?
She’ll have to. If she doesn’t, the party will slowly but surely distance themselves from her. She can’t afford that because deep down inside she really wants to achieve things in government and for the good of the people of our country. This game of politics has been Bill’s dream, not hers. Her dream is more emotional, personal, from her heart and soul. That really is the difference between Hill and Bill. I think it pains her to have to get all bitchy and negative. I don’t think that’s who she really is. But, she’s being handled (read: mishandled), and it’s late in the game.
I actually knew Docceybag in college. Wasn’t very impressive then, either.
That was a great shot by the comedian. I wouldn’t look for him to be invited back soon.
There are two FCC commissioners who listen and inwardly digest. Copps and Adelstein, as I recall. They are not Bush stooges. I was very impressed with them when they (alone) showed up for an FCC town hall about media consolidation a while back.
I am going to skip the question above, because I am wondering if anyone else is getting ads in their area on wiretapping. It’s kind of horrifying in a way. And I don’t know who’s paying for the ads. The ad goes like this: (paraphrase) The senate has passed a wonderful verion of the “terror surveillance act.” The House refuses too and is staying in the way. Call (fill in blanks, Chris Murphy, Joe Courtney etc.) and tell them you want the Terror Surveillance act passed.
These ads appeared constantly during commercial breaks on Pumpkinheads and on various other shows in CT. Someone is paying a lot of money to make the House look bad.
Please take the time to go to Obamas website and read over his programs.
Nope. That would apply to Fox in toto. *g*
Sen. Clinton will get on board and will deliver the speech of her life in support of Obama at the convention.
She’s gotta fight but it is almost over.
-G
Love it!
I was just thinking the same thing. Exactly.
Who has 2 million dollars to bid on a pretzel?
(how’s that balm working on your skin? *g* – and I wasn’t referring to you, yesterday, per se…)
I just checked. It’s $4,000. Since you can shape dough any way you want, I guess I don’t get the miracle. I may drop off in a minute and go work in the kitchen for a while.
I have no personal preference in this race. I supported Dodd then Edwards so I’m waiting this one out until the general.
That said, there is a lot about Hillary that I like, but I can’t get past the people she surrounds herself with and those that support her. Mark Penn, Rahmbo to name 2 that I can’t abide. I can’t get past the fact that she does not regret her war vote.
I also am not a fan of Obama’s kumbaya.
So whomever wins we will have to push to do the right thing and to find a circle of advisors who won’t sell us all down the river.
HA!
Yes, I really didn’t mean to extend my remarks to all the Commissioners, but unfortunately, the FCC, as an executive entity, has had a pretty poor track record of late.
Amazing how that skin toughens up overnight!! *g*
Exactly!
Couldn’t find the Zinn link. Saw the 60 Minutes Siegelman piece and while it certainly smells fishy, I don’t think they hit as hard as they should have. I can’t believe his appeal is thwarted because the judge wouldn’t release a transcript although perhaps we are further along the primrose path than I think. Siegelman’s lawyer seemed a bit defensive. The check that allegedly bribed Siegelman was issued days after the meeting where the bribe allegedly was passed. That didn’t seem to be part of the trial. Siegelman might be a good cause to rally around. Whatever we do, if we decide to do anything, it has to be massive.
Hope all is well with the doctor, a regular check up or something like that.
Damn! Can you imagine what a hoot the Dem convention is gonna be this year?
selise, this is no time to experiment and try to overthrow the system, there is too much at risk
“ability to keep his cool” BWAHAHAHAHA! that’s funny. Ask him about Mr. Rezko or Exelon or maybe his wifes job at the Hospitol where they let you DIE (can’t have no UHC) if you don’t have the RIGHT insurance and see how well he “keep his cool”.
There’ll be a slug o’progressives in DC for the Take Back America conference in March, including Jane and Christy. I keep waiting for something to perk by way of a visible presence in support of, ummm, taking back America. I’m not smart nor well-enough-connected to perk. Anyone?
That’s exactly what they make “TVbeGone” for!
http://www.tvbgone.com/cfe_tvbg_main.php
I hope I live to see the day when a Presidential ticket contains both Steve Doocy and Gary Busey. The campaign posters wil read – Doocy/Busey: Crazy…with a-side-a crazy!
Ha!
I’ve seen hints earlier that there would be a big antiwar rally March 15 organized by ANSWER, but you would think they would have made a bigger push on that by now.
That would be HUGE!
I’m getting me one of them
hillary kept giving speeches but she never spoke
I’ve been in public speaking all my life and I have this critisism for the clinton run toward the whitehouse
unless you have a booming, unique voice, you can’t make “a speech”, you have to speak to the audience, you have to touch their heart, it can be written words but it can’t be rehearsed, you react to the audience and they react to you
her husband had both, he had a unique voice, a personal touch and he could give a speech…all rolled into one
obama is learning, he gives speeches but I see him starting to show through those diatribes
if you wanted to track jfk’s stumping tour, you would see the same thing, he learned as he went and became more and more powerful with each and every stop
obama looks like the man right now
. I think it pains her to have to get all bitchy and negative. I don’t think that’s who she really is
that’s exactly who she is
FYI, Obama is going to be in Columbus, Ohio the day after tomorrow.
but if you’re asking do i think they will do what they can to turn us away from corporatism, militarism, imperialism and do what necessary for the future of the planet or even implement a decent universal health care for americans? no.
Someone please tell me if I’m missing something here. It would seem that in response to the heavy-handed relationship between Bush and the Congress that in the next administration that the pendulum will likely swing the other way. It will be difficult for any president to get their own programs (healthcare in particular) through Congress, and they will certainly not pass without Congress putting their own touches on the programs. There are just too many dependencies on getting Congress to agree to these programs. So why the hair-splitting over the programs in their current form? Have the candidates gone so far as to say that they would veto each other’s healthcare plan as proposed?
Do you really think so, Raven? Hell, I was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt! LOL! Soft pedaling obviously is my forte.
it sells newspapers, otherwise it’s bullshit
my bad
Absolutely!! Our American flag lapel pins will be so huge we’ll need f**ckin’ back braces just to stand up. Who dares to question that sort a patriotism!!
Appeal to higher forces @94. Is it possible to get the ACLU or some other group to fire back ads to counter wingnut ads on the so-called “Terra Surveillance Act,” that seem to play *constantly* on NBC in CT?!?
not wrong at all. Anything we get will be incremental. The pols have to figure out how they can appease their big bucks PHARMA and health insurance donors so they will cobble together something that will make their real constituencies happy. Without an electoral revolution in the ranks of better dems (not more like the Bush Dogs we have please) we will continue to see health care costs spiral out of control and fewer people being covered.
It’s just the way it is and will be until we can find an effective way to change it. More like Donna Edwards please.
I like to be able to chime in when someone else uses the “b” word so I can’t get accused of using sexist language:)
I think I am going to have to duck out on this one, but Ralph Nader sounded right on during Pumpkinheads show when he countered Obama’s statement, and Pumpkinhead’s as well. Obama in his view is *not* a progressive. And he is right. I don’t agree with third partyism necessarily, but the Nader says exactly what commenters on FDL have been saying about crony capitolism, etc. etc.
You mean something like this or this? Or maybe even this (see the video in Update II)?
Who are you saying their Real Constituencies are?
Yes, he says this every 4 years like clockwork, but then, when the election cycle is over…*crickets*…until the next cycle.
mui1 too bad Nader ONLY speaks out every 4 years, it is getting old, as far as I am concerned the ONLY real progressive is Sen. Feingold and he isn’t running!
SO Ralph STFU!
“Shame on you!”
Much of the blame for this grave political problem rests with the Clinton campaign’s early decision that she would run as the “Margaret Thatcher”, iron-lady of American politics. That might have worked if she had been paired against many, run of the mill opponents. But it was a fatal decision in a race against a master of inspiration.
Being the anti-inspirational candidate is even more disastrous in a context where the overwhelming majority of Americans want fundamental change. Barack Obama says: “Yes we can change the way things are done in Washington.” However she intends it, Clinton’s anti-inspirational, finger waging style translates to: “Get real, you don’t really think things are going to fundamentally change, do you?”
The Clintons are a drag on the ticket. The faster the Democratic Party distances itself from the Clintons, the better off we will be. No convention speeches please by the Clintons, and if necessary, not in prime time.
The various corporate powers that be. It’s always a matter of following the money. Something about the “benjamins” I recall.
The only significant change we will have in this country is when and if we can find a way to take the $$ out of politics—at least any and all corporate money. Taxpayer financed elections possibly supplemented by small dollar donations. The game, as it stands is all about playing the loopholes in the campaign finance laws and they have that down to an art.
As long as it’s pay for play we’ll be stuck with more of the same.
Not feeling very optimistic this morning.
I don’t know that I agree with you that Nader says what a lot of FDLers have been saying.
One big difference between Nader and the folks around here is that Nader does not want to put in the day-in, day-out work that it takes to effect change. He wants his once-every-four-years campaign hobby horse, and that’s all.
I am not impressed.
Glad I could accommodate, you sexist pig you! :)
ditto.
I think/hope the liberal parts of the electorate learned that lesson in 2000.
Well, Rev, you are paired off with someone who also is not optimistic ever! Can’t let it get to you!
agreed.
Christy said it better than I can
Nope. We keep on plugging and celebrate the days when things go right. Like letting PAA sunset and Donna Edwards’ victory.
More of that please.
Sorry about the not so optimistic outlook.
I share your concern.
It doesn’t look like we can fix the problem from the outside.
Campaign Finance Reform won’t be brought about by interests on the inside.
Right now, I’d have to say the only fix can be brought about by the Blue America candidates, as you say.
Maybe as technology changes, we’ll have some possible relief.
I don’t know.
But, I hope you find something to smile about this morning.
???
Maybe a Big Blue Bird or something?
Marcy’s up with the 60 Min. blackout story.
The first blog salvo.
A nice easy-to-understand ad played for Das Publikum on local stations whereever there are wingnut attacks would be nice (glen greenwald tailored for superball audiences, if possible?). But then maybe the stations would say they don’t “do political” even though the wingnuts are being patently dishonest and political.
She and her camp didn’t deem it necessary to campaign in certain states. Senator Obama took advantage of that greivous error. It’s not just his message of hope and inspiration. He had a good plan, worked very hard at that plan and executed the campaign to perfection. Work, work, work is his REAL message. Senator Clinton just didn’t work as hard as Senator Obama and she put her trust in people she shouldn’t have.
Actually, Jim White’s Jesus and Mary pretzel had me laughing out loud.
Off to get my thyroid level checked and then for some breakfast after. Then errands. Monday is my day off to play.
Next monday—the Philly Flower Show!
Caw! Caw! Scarecrow! This is the first thing I’ve read this morning, and it’s a truly great post! I’m very pleased!
Christy’s up with
Profiles In Politicization: 60 Minutes Finally Airs Siegelman Story
I am not suggesting anyone vote for Nader but I will counter that Nader has not been silent. I’ve heard him on local radio, etc. etc. He just doesn’t get on Pumpkinhead’s show unless Russert wants something stagey. Here he is on Pumpkinhead. Judge for yourself.. Please don’t accuse me of being “spoiler.”
Have a great Play Day, then.
And, that Jesus and Mary Pretzil story sounds like a sermon nugget…somehow, in a Twisted way.
I like where Hillary is going in the past couple of days. It’s time we pinned Obama down on who he is and ask him “Which side are you on?” Because Obama has been doing dirty work like he’s done it before. Is he really the change candidate and how much change can we expect from a guy who is willing to throw women and liberals under a bus in order to get that white male libertarian vote?
And how *is* he going to get things done without some divine intervention?
Hmmmm…
I’m going with Hillary. Funny how they were all ready to write her obituary last Friday because it looks to me like she’s not dead yet.
you salted that with a lot of puns demi!
Strange, I don’t recall hearing him talk about anything bigger than putting information on the Internet. What have you heard? What kind of changes?
You always come in late to the threads, like you have to have the last word. Makes me laugh whenever I see your comments.
I know this is going to make me more estranged from the community. As I am now being treated like a suspicious troll, although MarkH and I have been commenting here as long as I can remember, but amen MarkH. Some of us don’t march lockstep with the Obamameme.
You don’t? Perhaps you might want to click on his website. This sort of comment is beyond patronizing. See the recent Pearlstein article (not completely laudatory, but it addresses just your posture).
The comparison with McCain at the end is especially good.
Wow! Who’s treating you like a troll? I’ve not seen that. And, no one here has asked you to walk in lockstep with those of us who support Senator Obama. Your assumptions are just that…assumptions.

and the winner is …the democratic candidate.
.
Stop spreading lies. The Clinton camp has denied any involvement in releasing a benign photo (one that had even been published in a tabloid years ago) and there’s no evidence at all that they did–unless one counts reflexive Clinton bashing as “proof.” My God, her own camp said there’s nothing wrong with a politician doing what Obama did by citing Hillary Clinton’s travels as First Lady and saying there’s tons of photos of her in various attire (including–gasp!–wearing a hijab). There’s nothing there and yet you are claiming outrage.
He’ll be able to do that if he runs as an unabashed Democrat. He’s not basing his appeal on core Democratic policies or values, but instead vague ideas of “hope,” “change” and now “common sense.” If people aren’t drawn to the Democratic party–rather that just Obama–there’s no reason to believe his November victory would usher in a wave of change.
