It was pretty much world-record speed with which the smears against Barack Obama's patriotism alley-ooped from the right wing attack machine into the pages of legitimate media, neatly laundered into the AP by Nedra Pickler. It then quickly leapfrogged onto CNN where a poll inquired as to whether Obama had sufficient patriotism to be president.
It's incredible that a news source which purports to be legitimate would embrace and perpetuate this kind of stuff; common sense dictates that it should stay where it was birthed, in the right wing sewer. Nevertheless, we're in a rather fluid time, when the boundaries are being established about what is going to be regarded as acceptable for the rest of the race, so it's time to come down hard and set the limits. What Pickler did is out of bounds.
AP knows damn well that Obama doesn't hate America. This isn't a he-said-she-said. It's a case where AP is genuflecting to the Republicans and regurgitating their crap in a way Pickler and her fellow reporters wouldn't dare do if the victim were Republican.
As Glenn Greenwald notes, Obama's response was superb, but the fact remains that he should not be subject to these kinds of open smears in the first think.
The AP probably doesn't care a whole lot about what you think, but it does care what the papers who subscribe to their wire service think. So we've set up a page where you can plug in your zip code and automatically send an email to the papers in your area who syndicate the AP and let them know this is beneath what you expect their coverage to be -- for this election cycle and beyond.
Especially if you live in some state that's less likely to get a lot of attention like New York or California, please take time to send an email. We want to blanket the country as broadly as possible and let every paper know that this kind of journalism is unacceptable -- and that you're watching.
And Hekebolos has a diary up at DailyKos about this action, so if you're a Kossak please go over and hit "recommend."

No surprise from AP on this one
Letter to be sent
Still waiting for the tool to run.
Hopefully that’s just because it’s new.
Nope - timed out
Will retry
Yeah.. I’m in. And no surprise at all.. however, it’s worth noting that the AP is huge. The news feed coming out of there is essentially boundless and it’s a product. They have to have something for every shopper.
Is that a good thing? Not so much. Can we fix it? Not very much. But I’m happy to try.
2nd try worked like a charm
These people really do need to hear from us, even if they will ignore us as usual. The AP long ago gave up any pretense of playing it fair-but keep in mind that they’re “liberal” and would never, ever give a conservative a fair shake!
Sent a short, to the point letter. I suspect it’s going to be ignored, but I wrote it anyway.
It’s nothing that wasn’t expected, the GOP is going to be throwing all the mud they can and hoping something sticks. I wonder if the GOP is feeding the Clintons information or vice-versa.
They can’t win on the issues, so they’re going to either destroy Obama personally or turn this into a nasty racial us-vs-them election.
Boxturtle (People vote their prejudices, then they vote their wallet)
I was somewhat cheered to see that the CNN.com poll was running 2-1 that he is patriotic enough to be president.
But they still shouldn’t be running polls like that without the matching ‘is GOoPer X patriotic enough’ question. (Or maybe ‘is GOoPer X honest enough’. [/s]) And I wish they’d have a follow-up or fill-in for comments on the poll question: why do you answer this way, what do you think of this, something that would add some depth to it. (Of course, many of their polls are straight-up fluff.)
Nedra Pickler should lose her job over this — Pickler, CNN, and the AP are a disgrace.
I think that the contrast between Democratic, and non-reactionary targets in general and the wax dummies of the GOP should be noted.
With non-reactionaries the rule is that it would be irresponsible not to speculate.
with the known liars, known frauds, known conflicts of interest among the responsible and authoritarian, but incompetent and corrupt) big daddies of the GOP, it is say nothing until beyond beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Compare the baseles smears on Obama and reluctance to report known lobbyist, FEC problems with McCain.
And, has GOP House relection committee found a any genuine accounting records yet, as opposed to forgeries?
From TMP-The AP’s Nedra Pickler asks disgraced Republican dirty-trickster Roger Stone for his opinion. Stone you’ll remember is the guy who got caught making threatening phone calls to New York Gov. Spitzer
Oh, THAT Roger Stone!
Howie at DWT has had some great pieces on that slimeball- let me go find the links…
npickler@ap.org
probably past time to drop the R-bomb on them. Racists.
And the L-bomb: Liars.
And the F-bomb: Frauds.
And the PCH-bomb: Paid Corporate Hacks.
Then the P-bomb….
Hmmm, guess I better count to ten and cool down before I write anything.
Is all this “patriotism” stuff preparatory to making Obama’s “Weatherman” connection a major campaign issue (helped along by defeat-addled Clinton supporter Larry Johnson)?
http://blog.washingtonpost.com.....ction.html
Great tool!
Simple to use - targeted and helpful for the compositionally challenged such as myself.
You think our papers are bad? The Hebrew laguage Israeli press is far, far worse. Yesterday, Ma’Ariv posted an incredibly racist cartoon of Obama painting the White House black!
The Cinton machine has been continuously using surrogates to portray Obama inaccurately in terms of his stances on Middle East issues in general, Palestinian-Israeli issues in particular.
Done. Thanks for the tool.
Sent.
That’s exactly what they want: to be called “racists” by their opponents. It’s the dirtier version of what the Clinton campaign tried in South Carolina.
sent. cool tool, thanks.
THANK YOU for this! Writing up my letter now…
It would be as good to catalog such nonsense and then run them out of business due to their incompetence, bias, and that they have a problem with facts. Let’s guesstimate that 20 million more people will vote in this election because Obama is running. Our existing networks of entertainment and newspapers that are glory rags for religions, corporations, and other such human excrement, we will get to watch their demise.
The AP is a joke, as bad a joke as UPI became as it morphed with the Moonie Times. Now the GOP is calling their best friends, the NYT and the WP “librul” and trying to make it look as though they haven’t been controlling both over the last few years. The NYT and WP enabled the killing of a million people and they used the “librul” papers as their conduit. The former NYT and WP would not have assisted a fascist takeover of power. The new owners counted on this as they helped destroy democracy.
no, let’s encourage such actions because the people no longer buy this crap. Obama is getting millions of people voting and no built in fraud vote count on the machines is going to be able to stand this time. You will have the Watts Riots and the revolutionary war all combined into one. ( I am not meaning to include all those things free people have fought for in our country, only show how inclusive the population will be in stamping the GOP into dust this time around.
Lettuce point out their incredible reporting as we assist them in becoming meaningless. Lets help any future generation that will not hold them in high regard based solely on a history that no longer applies.
Make no mistake. The MSM and the GOP are just beginning their smear of Mr. Obama. By the time they are finished many Americans will equate a vote for Obama as one for Osama, if not Willie Horton.
pickle the Pickler
I couldn’t find the CNN Quick Vote - current one asks about credit card debt
Perhaps someone clued them that it wasn’t a good idea
Or perhaps they didn’t like the pro Obama trending of the responses
Dumbass question anyways
Stupidity should be distained as well as rejected

What more to do from one in a dilemma of lack of power.
Answer-we can join together say om mani padne om(sp) or,
kick some serious ass with words and civil outrage,
together being the key word.
The electronic media are going to have to be very careful about this stuff. They run a huge, and I mean huge risk if they go off the rails and Obama wins. I can’t imagine any of his people forgetting smears. They can forget about getting any favours for a long time. Personally, I would prefer some serious payback to Time Warner.
I think we need to start a email campaign questioning McCain’s patriotism. After all, he self admittedly dis-honored his country after being tortured. And as good GOOPers know, torture is reliable and saves lives.
Not sure I get your point. Still too steamed to see straight. I’ve been watching the press, and the double standard in reporting and in the punditocracy is outrageous. Has become a truly corrupt institution. Nearly as bad in terms of social engineering as the yellow press around 1900. But the techniques are subtler.
I sent mine, too. Let’s hope a few get published.
Patriotism-a word used by those that have to co opt those that don’t to go die for nothing.
i.e bullshit
It is the Clintons
http://downwithtyranny.blogspo.....ative.html
~~Earlier today a blogger friend from upstate New York was telling me about someone he said was the sickest, meanest Republican north of the Beltway. It was about some Rove-inspired dirty trick he had played on a congressional candidate last year. A few hours later I got an e-mail entitled “Speaking of the Devil.” It was a link to a NY Times story about Eliot Spitzer’s 83-year old father, Bernard, being threatened by an obviously deranged Republican consultant– the same vicious GOP operative he had been telling me about, Roger Stone.~~
link via Howie:
http://www.geocities.com/Holly.....q0213.html
Big time political strategist Roger Stone and his wife Nikki: The former Bob Dole adviser and his wife were swingers and The Vault was a favorite haunt. “Roger and Nikki were our customers for a long time,” Marini says. “They were heavy duty swingers and ran ads on the Internet and in many sex publications. They were heavy players.”
Roger was one of the top advisers who urged Dole and other Republican politicians to emphasize family values and integrity.~~~ (and there’s more!)
Uh, in case it isn’t clear, Nedra Pickler quoted Roger Stone…
Sent a letter to a dozen newspapers. Hope the next Democratic administration in 2009 freezes out each and everyone of the MSM hitmen/women, that includes everyone at Fox. Once they lose their place in the pecking order their careers are over.
digg the petition!
I’ve been Nedra’s case for probably two years. This is nothing new and it would be great to get some mega-pushback on this.
Although….there may be another AP writer leapfrogging Nedra in ridiculousness, and that’s Libby Quaid, who wrote perhaps the dumbest article I can ever remember seeing from AP here:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200.....nged_women
The AP has become a highly suspect organization.
Send the AP a bill of particulars and see if the reporters will stand by their stories.
I was checking the right wing blogs last night and one of them (don’t remember which one and it is gone now) had a lead story on Obama accompanied by a photo of him with enhanced teeth, large spaces between them, and his hands near his mouth showing crossed fingers with enhanced elongated fingernails. His head was tilted in an unnatural way and glazed over eyes. Looks like the wingnuts are going to go for the “sinister scary black man that everyone should fear” approach. Their overt racism is going to come back to bite them in the ass if they are aloud to proceed with this unchecked.
Me too. And, this one’s from LA.
Agreed about the Cool Tool.
Some of us may not be in a position to create a wheel, but, if you give us a wheel, we’ll drive.
We are mere wheels (we’lls on the bus.)
Some days, I’m glad to be a Cog.
Thank you, Jane.
Jane, excellent feed back tool. I just received the “Speak Out,” confirmation email from you and Glenn. Great work!
psssst….whispering…it means we’re on a list, somewhere.
S’okay, tho…
With all the jukelists in all the world, we had ta come into this one…
All things considered….
Wow. Obama up 4% in TX according to CNN.
http://tpmelectioncentral.talk....._texas.php
Never ceases to amaze me how quickly he makes up ground. Another company (not ARG!) has him within 4% on OH, and Gallup national now has him up 12%. Phenomenal. Wasn’t he just just down approx 20% in TX and OH within the last two weeks?!?
Please Hillary, Wolfson, Penn….keep up the negative stuff. In fact, might as well double down and go all out at the debate. That should be enough to end this thing and we can focus on McCan’t, or whoever enters the Repube fray.
patRIOTism.
patxxxism.
You know, some of this stuff is making me think that her performance to date has been … a performance.
Everything is A Performance.
Their’s is just Out There.
Haven’t you ever felt like you were playing a Part in some Play?
Individuals….Media….Politics….how could it be seen as anything else.
Just a bit of context, is what I’m sayin’.
OT: Have a cow! :)
I sent mine to the local Spokane and North Idaho newspapers. We climb the mountain together .. one small step at a time.
The more they scream, the more they self-reveal. And Obama keeps soaring. How many negative voices in the media does it take to begin to impact Obama? From the looks of his ratings - zilch.
I spoke
Thanks, Jane, for the letter link. Sent.
Yep, I would agree with you, and after he clinches the nomination, smears will increase his popularity even more !
I think Obama’s populism (as well as his race) will lauch a huge backlash among the powers-that-be, including the MSM. Fasten your seatbelts.
Yes. And, it feels good.
re: what I said at #47.
Even comments Here are (Art), in a way.
But, we do what we can.
And, it’s even easier when we have Cool Tools.
Not denegrading.
No Snark.
This is Good.
Barack, sometime in the next debate, if you can swing a few uppercuts at Bush43 vis a vis FISA, we would all appreciate it …
Jane,
It would be fun if in a day or so you could let us know how many people participated. Have you considered asking the Obama campaign to send out a link to the tool on his email list? His supporters could literally bury the newspapers in letters.
Thanks again for putting this together.
What’s that I hear?
The sound of Obamaniacs calling out the Bush?
No, it may be in the deep part of their hearts, but that’s Not what I’m hearing…or hearting.
Sent letter. All of it in my own words. Theme: Barack Obama is an American, first and last, and his patriotism cannot be questioned because he has done nothing of question in this regard.
Sent to all AP outlets as able to on letter form as provided by FDL tool.
Worked a-ok. Hoping this helps.
I’m hoping (and praying) that it does help.
Good for you and everyone who contributes.
((((( demi )))))
How’s the nails ?!! *g*
Obama has taken a few shots and Bush43, but he is saving most of that for the GE, where he will hang Bush’s failures around McCant’s neck …
Would it not be sublime if the weapons that Republicans have used against Democrats for the last few cycles (or more) have stopped working — or at least can be neutralized effortlessly by a good, confident candidate (Sen. Obama, I’m looking at you …)?
I see where Hillary is adding a dollop of populism (a la Edwards?) to her campaign. Way late, Hillary. It would have been more convincing if you had built some populist cred at the beginning of the race, instead of near the end when you’re despirate (sp?) for votes and your sincerity is in doubt. Kinda goes against the DLC credo, doesn’t it?
Bob in HI
If someone can give me a zip code to use, I’d be happy to send a letter as well.
OT ~ I’m not even a Hil supporter…but this is beyond ridiculous:
http://www.americablog.com/200.....e-guy.html
Wow now the AP is a sellout. God.
Maybe Obama should challange McCain to an apple-pie eating contest. Or has been noted here see who can wear the biggest flag lapel-pin.
Here are some!
Uh, Lou? If you check Jane’s post, that Nedra Pickler article referenced in your link is one of the reasons she set it up…
I would be happy to do this when I first see some evidence that the same will be done regarding the media’s hateful misogyny of Clinton’s campaign. If you are going to get incensed about it’s coverage of Obama - which, by the way, has been fawning for the most part - then the same should be done in favor of Clinton. She is the one who has been consistently villified in the media with every sexist meme imaginable, along with blatantly false stories as well. Selective outrage just won’t cut it.
Sent letters with the following:
Jane went after that issue bigtime…you must not have been paying attention.
Agree with you for the most part about “lists.” Jane, however, has been so extremely disciplined with the FDL brand that this is one list, I’m proud to be on.
FWIW, it’s the first time I ever encountered this new FDL tool. I’m not in the threads as much as I used to be, so it’s very possible I just missed it. In case it is new, I just wanted to give Jane real time data that it works.
In the “old days” a lot of us would vote in online polls, send emails, and place phone calls, at Jane and Christy’s request. Unfortunately, Jane and Christy probably had little way of quantifying the real impact of their requests. Worse, any wingnut could pretend to be calling on behalf of FDL and do disinformation with a Senator, Congresscritter, or media person. The WaPoo used to have an open site where we could lodge our protests. You could actually see hundreds of FDL pseudonyms on it ripping Jim
Church LadyBrady and some of the other chickenhawks. We also did some great work over at Amazon. It’s that feedback loop imho, which is so important. You don’t stop here much, do ya?
Big P!
I’m hanging okay.
I understand that his strategy may be to hold off until the GE, but, right about now, I think he should at least warm up and start swinging with those Lead Bats?
(thought you might appreciate the, uh, sports analogy…)
Maybe I’ll do my nails during the (snore…they’re boring the F out of me right about now) Debate tomorrow.
Thanks Dood !
Use mine: 91342: LA…Times, News, all the industry rags…)
What’s a friend for?
Reminds me of grade school. When the fat kid was teased by the meanie kids he tried to divert attention from himself by saying, “Well, that’s not as bad as her bony knees. HAAHAAHAA!” And the kids turned on the skinny little girl with the bony knees.
Here’s the link:

Selective outrage just won’t cut it.
Thanks for your input. But, depending on the expected return, you never know.
Do one?
Your are cracking me up, sister.
Thanks.
FWIW, I think you can check back in the last couple of months and find numerous instances where Jane has called BS on the TradMed misogyny against Senator Clinton. In fact many folks have accused FDL of being biased in favor of Senator Clinton because of these posts.
Like here, and here, and here
In my neck of the woods that would be phrased, “you’re not from around here, are you?” (g)
That horse was beat to death long ago.
I meant You Are as in you’re…
but you guys know what I mean…
still. QUAKER GIRL
n response to CognitiveDissonance @ 69:
” the media’s hateful misogyny of Clinton’s campaign”
My new sweetie, who is not very political, supported Hillary (she votes in California), and her reaction to the Obama upsurge is to blame men who are not yet ready to yield power to a woman. This from a lady who is a socially conservative Christian! And she also approves of priests who are women. I think I may have a closet feminist at hand.
Bob in HI
Glenn Greenwald on Air America now on subject of current thread.
Excuse me?!? Do you ever read this blog? We’ve been “selectively” calling the media out on behalf of every Democratic candidate when they pull some boneheaded GOP talking points move like this. Jeebus, before you berate Jane for calling this out, why not look around the blog a little first.
Try this post first from Jane.
I tried a friend’s California Zip code but it was rejected …
As a Hillary supporter, I am in agreement about the AP’s ridiculous article. But do not ask me to follow a link to TPM or Americablog or Huffingtonpost plus several other “progressive” blogs that have been ridiculous also in their biased reporting of lies regarding Clinton’s campaign and fitness for the presidency.
BOB!!!
Just oil the door and slowly, carefully, lovingly Open The Door.
Good for you!
Is this a metaphor ?!! *g*
So…use mine.
Are you on FB?
‘Cause I’ll give you my address…I think you need the street address.
You, I trust.
Sorry for nitpicking, but I got an e-mail “Speak Out: Thank You for Taking Aciton(sic)” … might wanna change that to “Action” …
Didn’t mean it that way.
(you knucklehead.)
Since Taylor Marsh and Larry Johnson have literally fallen off the deep end, I don’t have to waste time checking them out anymore, and can now read TPM more often. There may a slight Obama slant there, but for the most part find them quite fair.
Do you really think that the Thugs care if they are call racist or misogynist? I don’t know the answer but the strategies for the Dem primary aren’t going to work in the General. For me, the labeling of Max Clealand as a traitor and morphing him into Osama is the prototype for the ‘08 general election.
Thanks demi, my buddy tw3k gave me a list of DC zip codes and I sent off the letter.
I am on FB though, under Petrocelli and I hope you still have my private e- mail … *g*
I think what has a lot of women upset is that they waited so long to get a shot at the presidency and ironically they have to compete with the first black who has the same right to that honor and who happens to be male.
Somehow, it proves once again god is a male. Goddess wouldn’t laugh at us that way. Obama is still the young whippersnapper who takes the position away from the woman who is next in line. Man, I’ve seen it countless times.
More women will give the minority male the chance to get the prize than males in general will give a woman a chance to get the prize.
It seems unfair and a slap in the face. Objectively, none of this is really happening but it feels that way.
Gosh! I love these cool new tools!
Here’s my letter to the papers:
Thanks, Jane, for the chance to sound off on this. We need to show them that people everywhere are reading this crap and care about it.
Teflon, heh?
Well, all the more reason to drop the name calling and call them on Facts, facts, facts, alone.
Take no f*cking prisoners.
Yes, it’s the real Demi, here.
I swear, sometimes.
What’s sad about this is that it is unnecessary and works in favor of the Repugs, who we should be uniting against, as Jane, Christy and the others have been saying here from day one …
I only keep the Important Stuff…yep.
The same should be done in favor of Mike Gravel too. humph.
Aloha Y’all, I notice the Pups are fired up today…! Nice to see a concern troll has the audacity to make an appearance..! ;-)
Be nice.
Larry says wonderful things about you.
I hope you don’t Have to go there.
:)
I guess we’re lucky up here in Aaska in respect to local press and racism directed toward Obama. The caucuses are over, Obama cleaned up. And we’re not very important in the electoral scheme of things nationwide. Except that Don Young is such a creep nationwide, he’s helping the Democrats out nationally - and locally.
done, done and done…thanks Jane for making it so easy for us to object.
Some have suggested that there will not be a female candidate for another generation and I strongly disagree with this … Hillary’s presence and ability to last this long despite a bad crew will embolden many women to get more involved in the political process, at all levels.
I agree with Ted Turner, that men should be banned from any office of power for 100 years … it’s the only way to help the world attain peace, prosperity and equality, IMVHO …
Do you think that’s what it takes? Audacity?
Never thought of it that way.
Hmmmm.
Well, then.
… nicer still that we got to have a Troll Barbecue … Thanks Mods !!! *g*
Yes’m, ‘audacity’…! *g*
I think it was Biodun who pointed out to me that Black Men got The Vote before Women.
That made me think twice…several times.
If you know what I mean.
It’s a really fun word to say Out Loud.
Shall we all try it together?
ET…you conduct it..
on three….
Au Da Citeeeeee
(thank you ET, we needed that.)
Heh, it makes for a lively discourse…! BTW, Da Bestest Mods! *g*
There’s a really cool vibration that happens when we speak with One Voice.
I don’t know the answer. IMO, the election is going to be decided by 10% of the electorate, most of whom are low information voters. The Thugs are very good at appealing to this group.
NewsHour is covering the McCain lobbying story in the NYTimes. Maybe the story will continue.
McCain’t: the Odd ass-ity of “Nope”.
Double Ditto… Obama won with 76% of the vote in a record shattering turnout…! Tho, my wife voted for Hill… ;-)
Of course there won’t be another female candidate for at least another generation. There’s no one in the pipeline.
Cool! Here, have a cow :D
Yes, and that 10% are very attuned to listening to That Voice.
:(
*groan* 8-P
Jackson!
Jackson who?
Letters sent to every paper on my zip code list. Thanks for the tool.
I’m sorry … I didn’t realize we had to drill for one …
I disagree. There are several women office holders who have the qualifications to be president, and several more who will have them in a few years. Some governors in particular.
There is a huge, retarded, very retrograde and moronic gender based political glass celing in the US, and I see no reason not to call it what it is.
Hitting the la freeways.
Am taking cool vibes from here.
Ta!
So true. Hillary has slammed that door wide open and the flood gates are open. Many women will go for the prize. Hillary may fall, or not. Others will also get close and may not break that marble ceiling but very soon it will crumble.
Thanks to all those great women who came before us, determine to “not know their place” and we have a voice today. Cheers to The Dinner Party.
((( CT )))
I don’t know, there are some candidates in the House like Debbie Wasserman-Schultz
Lee-Jackson :D
*spew*
Sheila Jackson-Lee! I was thinking of KS Gov. Sibelius(sp?)…
You forgot the snnark alert. /snark
Yeah! I mixed the names up.
Yep. There’s lots of great Democratic women who would make a fine president at some point. Honestly, I wished one of them was running right now!
I’m tired of a Bush or a Clinton being in office.
Drat … missed it yesterday as well … thanks !
How’s the weather in Toronto? Vog is kicking my okole today…!
Nonsense, I will support the Governor of Arizona in 2016 but not the Clintons. HRC should never have been in the pipeline.
Cry me a River … *g* … we’ve already gotten more snow this year than the previous two years combines and we’re getting 6 - 8 inches tomorrow … the Groundhog lied !!! *g*
Rather than detail probs with the women who have been mentioned, I’ll just take bets that none of them will be prez material in the next 20 years.
I will bet that America will have a female VP by 2016, if not a POTUS …
Lessee … The Peanut will be a ‘tween’, Christy will have more time to campaign … yes, it’s all falling into place …
eCAHN- fwiw, Howie at DWT has said several times that Donna Edwards is Presidential caliber.
That’s your story and you’re sticking to it…! *g*
That’s a stretch. I like her, to be sure, but she’s not yet even arrived in the House. Sounds like projection to me.
Since Christy “owned you” at 86, a simple apology would be nice.
Can I ask what module that is being used for the speakout letter form? That’s nicely done. Is that maintained by Firedoglake or is it a Wordpress widget?
eCAHN- I’m just reporting what Howie has said. I think that the first best thing would be to get a great female Dem VP, and that might not take 20 years. And then, one hopes, the house of cards will fall, so to say.
Hey everybody, just heard Glennzilla on Rachel Maddow’s show. Rachel did a good job of pointing out Roger Stone’s resume and Glenn was great at reassuring all of us that Obama’s strategies will work. Obama is not ignoring the slime but addressing it without fear. I think this is so great.
I for one think it helps a bit that America has been major league burned by these smears because what has it got us? A shredded constitution, endless war, and a sucky economy.
p.s. eCAHN- it will be very interesting to see who Obama picks as a running mate. I just can’t see Hill being the right choice, but geez, it would be nice if it was a female. Not that I have any good suggestions… alas
Here’s My Letter:
Great letter!
When I asked myself the same question about potential male Presidential candidates either four or eight years from now I also drew a blank. Assuming that the ones that ran this time are washed out because most have run twice already, who is left? I guess one could say that people like (yuck) Schumer and Rahm are trying to get in a position to run, but other than that I can’t see anyone in any position of leadership really eligible…but lots of Governors. And if Barack wins he will be the prospective nominee in 2012. So we are looking further down the road.
But another generation? I can see lots of eligible women emerging before then. There are many younger women governors, Congresswomen, and I suspect several new Senators will come in before then.
black men got the right to vote before women (on paper). Jim Crowe laws pretty much made that a difficult feat in the south.
While I agree with what you’re saying, I also remember an interview with Jesse Jackson, I think it was, after the first black astronaut went up in space. When asked how he felt about the accomplishment, Jackson made the usual remarks about how proud he was of the long-overdue honor for the black community. He went on to comment that he noticed, however, that the black man had had to wait his turn until after the white lady had her ride.
In this one, it looks like either way somebody wins, somebody loses. And so it goes.
thanks for setting this up, jane.
I wrote directly to our Idaho Mis-Statesman as they don’t usually print “form” letters , but THANKS 4 the motivation, Jane !
here i ’tis :
Smears and Lies in print
PLEASE , please , report the “news” , not false & vile Republican talking points . In the Sunday Statesman , (Associated Press) Nedra Pickler’s smear piece against Obama was pure partisan BS of the worst sort . Will you print a story on my partisan anti-bush blog next ? Ha !
Lies ‘n Slander from corrupt Republicans are as sure as death but they usually have write their own letter or pay to disseminate it . We Americans DEPEND on an un-biased media to tell us the truth . If you continue to spew Political Party Propaganda , you-all run the risk of being the print version of Fixed (fox) News Channel on cable TV , furthering the way of the Dinosaur Dopes (republicans) of Kakistocracy !
Oh , 1 last point : did the brainiacs who allowed this to go to print Google Roger Stone , one respected Republican source quoted ? He started a pornographic 527 group to fight (NOT my choice) Hillary . The acronym of the high-minded name this RePIGliKKKan chose is not fit for print , it starts with “C” and rhymes with “punt” , , , & their T-shirt is a jingoistic ‘n sexist thing resembling the “Y” of a woman’s , (cough) , lower anatomy .
GOOD job , you stenographic fetid fools !

Thanks Jane here is what I wrote:
I appreciate that you have taken the time and courage to show us that Barck Obama is in fact not a patriot. His clear lack of respect as shown on the video when all others in attendance are properly putting their hands over their hearts is proof enough that Mr Obama thinks he is above such trivial emotions as respect for his flag and country. Thank you again and keep up the good work.
Please help me get this out. Yes, I sent my letter and thanks very much. We have to make this nonsense STOP NOW! It is reprehensible, we can’t let them get away with this. CNN had a frigging POLL today, so I heard, to determine if Obama is patriotic enough for America!
Is First Lady Barbara Bush a ‘patriot’?
“Why should we hear about body bags, and deaths…I mean, it’s not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?”
~Barbara Bush
Mrs. Bush spoke these words on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” March 18, 2003.

Obama: “I stopped wearing the pin because it was so much in use by people who have done enormous damage to our country”.
I wrote this to the Boston Globe:
“Conservatives say Obama lacks patriotism” — Why oh why are you publishing this crap? Nedra Pickler likes nothing better than to regurgitate and mainstream right-wing garbage against Democrats. Do the Globe’s editors even realize that the Republican consultant Roger Stone, quoted by Pickler in this outrageous attempt to “Swiftboat” Obama has set up an organization with the acronym “C.U.N.T.” against Hillary Clinton? (And don’t blame me for writing the name — I’m not the one inviting him to comment on politics by CNN and the AP as if he were someone who deserved to be listened to!) PLEASE do not use this swill in the future. How about if I went around saying: “Democrats say Globe editors might have molested children?” And I’ll even give you the opportunity to deny it. Why is this any different? Someone over there must be making decisions on what to include in your newspaper and what to pass by — please show some respect for the truth and for your readers.
