…because I know you are going to be talking about it. Here’s a thread just for the red carpet chitchat, wild arse guessing on who will win what, and running commentary on the wackadoodle hair, make-up and oh good lord what in the hell is she wearing over there!
Kick back, relax, and dish…it’s the Oscars.
Oh, hey, look! It’s Jon Stewart…
(And blessedly, Regis has shut up now.)

Jo Stewart: “Oscar is 80 this year, which makes him the automantic front runner for the republican nomination”
Hey, I thought that was Jeri Thompson, seen from behind! Where’s Grandpa Fred?
Where are you all? This is the only way I know what’s going on in the world. Univision has some kind of circus act competition on …

EPU’d (does it matter in an Oscar thread?) – Did anyone see Dennis Hopper’s skit with Rainn Wilson on last night’s Spirit Awards? Hilarious!

LOL
Dang it, had to run to the store, ran out of Mt Dew.
I missed Jack?!
Dammitall.
Oscars? I gave up on the Oscars when “The Further Adventures of Tennessee Buck” didn’t get nominated.
;~(
It depends what “is” is.
OMG, repeats of acceptance speeches. ack!
Some tech either got fried or fired right about now.
I don’t think I have seen her from behind…It’s always been Jeri and the twins.
The lady who won for costume design has a dress of amazing construction. I wonder if it is one of her own?
??? Always Be Cool? (I have to lurk at icanhascheezburger to catch up on my abbreviations, like brb, ktnxbai.)
But where’s Remy? (Though it has to be said, Persepolis is an exceedingly strong contender, howsoever utterly different in nature)
ohhhhhhh honnay…..next time my mom tells me my ass is big,i will keep this photo of Beyonce in my purse
Hey Jane, there’s your Resident Evil, in the Diet Coke commercial!
You were expecting?

Christy!
Tell me you’re wearing a tiara and boa….
And, of course, this has already been addressed…
I was busy with my other life… and I got pre-empted…probably.
But, that’s the image I’ve got in my head.
And, peanut’s the princess, right? Red Carpet?
Oh, right, you’re on the Other Coast.
Hopefully, you can have some tea or otherwise enjoying.

Wasn’t that great, John Waters and Allison Janney throwing money at the audience was wonderful.
And the shoes?
We can only hope that all the schmalz will be crammed into this intro.
No more, please.
The Peanut’s in bed — but Mr. ReddHedd and I are now settled in — me with some hot tea and we are loving the old Oscar clips.
SO many greats no longer with us…
if it wasnt spontaneous it sure looked that way – i love the looseness of that award show ya know?
Dream on.
mmf. Beyonce ought to look at getting someone to do her a Badgley Mischka gown. Just looking at their designs makes me feel slinky … and I’m short and dumpy.
And Moldy Peaches
I love the schmaltz! It’s the best part
I have a really old lap top, can’t see the shoes?
Are they fabulous?
Oh, shit, it’s bad.
I shit teared up at that montage.
And, we haven’t gotten to best supporting whatever…

Katherine Heigl wasn’t struck by lightening after all
I don’t watch for the movies. I never have time to go to the movies, so I rarely have seen them before the Oscars. (Harry Potter and Lord of the RIngs being exceptions–THEM I see on opening weekend)
I watch the Oscars for the clothes and for the gaffs.
And this year b/c a childhood friend of mine is a first time nominee. I’m gonna have to stay up late tonight.
who is the blonde?
How does Katherine Heigel walk in that dress?
OK this red dress drapes beautifully.
Wow, Marylin Monroe look alike.
Pretty.
Ratatouille is excellent. We have watched it a bazillion times at this point, and it stays amusing each and every time.
tehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh kewl!
I love her dress and hair. Very old time Hollywoood glamour
trust me TW i know my people fa real ;o} lol no offence – jus sayin……….
Grey’s Anatomy and Knocked Up.
LOL! No — she-who-holds-the-remote watches Spanish language TV, and I’m kinda along for the ride. We’ve got a blond gymnast on right now who is supporting herself on a bite-piece between her teeth with her body swirled into an improbable position above her head. Not bad viewing, I have to say.
ok im getting in to it
I had to get predictions from my Mom since I haven’t seen any of the movies
christy, what hilary swank does for you, for me katherine heigl.
can’t explain it, just a visceral “uck”.
La Vie en Rose won. I have to take Littelprop to see it. She has been an Edith Piaff fan for years. She discover Piaff on the internet looking for music to download on her Ipod
Well, yeah, honey, valentine, that’s what I thought you meant.
I can’t see her shoes…. from here.
Let’s just pretend…
Ruby Slippers…
Black Stilettos…
But, since it seems to be so Damned Cold where she is…
I say…Muklucks!
mmmm – i’m loving the red outfits…… my fave color
bringing the music up early is fucking annoying and rude.
What’s Amy Adams’ musical background? She’s quite good.
It’s good but it is a serious bummer.
just the right amount of ugly american for the europeans, eh?
I’d highly recommend it. I suppose it didn’t hurt that I’m very fond of good food, and the joys of culinary creation anyway, but Ratatouille did such a remarkably job of communicating just what joy there can be in cooking; not to mention some outstanding animation, comic timing, and choice of actors. For me, it was one of those rare productions where I was simply awestruck by the time the credits rolled, having just enjoyed a truly remarkable work from some extraordinarily talented people, Brad Bird most certainly amongst them.
Song sucks, but she’s good.
Gotta stay somewhere near on time. Remember, some of the categories don’t even get presented at all.
Amy Adams needs to spend some time inthe 360 mirror from “what not to wear”. That dress is WAY too tight and irching up. The length makes her legs look like tree truncks, which I doubt is the case.
That dress makes tha skinny toned woman look like she has a weight problem.
ratatouille was really cute. the kids dragged me to it but I really enjoyed it. And the opening scene with the stampede in the old lady’s house scared me to death! Very hitchcock for me!
btw, The Peanut looooooooooved Enchanted. It was an hilarious spoof on all the gushy princess motifs and I still can’t believe that Disney made it.
you must get this for the peanut, one of MY favorite movies
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091149/
They are so worried about shortening the show they cut everybody off, instead of just the really verbose ones
me too
Writers still on strike?
how the hell am I going to get my presentation ready for tomorrow?
My four chow chows are in the basement with me watching. [Dad is out of town, so they have the run of the house for tonight.] It’s fun having them here.
No, that’s why the oscars are ON, baby. Now getta outta here, we love you, we mean it.
Oh, we’ve got that one. *g*
Just record the oscars and jon stewart giving your presentation. people will laugh, cry….
makes me cry everytime,i dont know why
etting actors to hit their marks and remember their lines can be a colossal challenge, a director will tell you. Any director of the annual Academy Awards telecast might elaborate: at the Oscars ceremony, getting anyone in the film business to stick to a script—or at least keep an eye on the clock—is more challenging than herding a pack of feral cats.
At the 1999 Academy Award presentations, Lily Zanuck worried aloud that Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar would win the best foreign film prize. He had recently won the Golden Globes for All About My Mother and had given a long, wandering, and strangely incomprehensible acceptance speech. According to film journalist Steve Pond, Zanuck feared that he would stage a repeat performance if he won an Oscar. He did win, and sure enough, Almodóvar began a long speech that showed no signs of ending even as the band played him off and Antonio Banderas dragged him away.
Almodóvar wasn’t alone that night. Michael Caine had already pushed the clock back on receiving the best supporting actor nod for The Cider House Rules, going long because, he explained, he’d been a no-show the last time he won an Oscar. Irving Thalberg Award winner Warren Beatty gave a six-minute speech paying homage to everyone he’d ever met. Even the visual-effects winner took his time, earning another blast from the band.
very tepid remarks thus far…..
The song is more amusing with the rats, cockroaches and pigeons in NYC helping her clean up the apartment while she sings it. *g* CGI, no workee on live teevee, I suppose.
after a gloomy gray day, we are now having a technicolor sunset here in hollywood. with a blimp, flying over the kodak theater.
i have brownies in the oven…ha ,ha…hahaha
a very good looking black man!
Dwayne Douglas Johnson (born May 2, 1972), better known by his former ring name The Rock, is an American actor and former professional wrestler.[1] He gained mainstream fame as a standout in World Wrestling Entertainment from 1996 to 2004. Since 2001, he has focused on a thriving acting career, though he still makes occasional WWE appearances for promotional purposes.
Jon with a funny- “in case we were wondering what they do backstage, they make catty remarks about what the viewers are wearing at home. Yes, it works both ways.”
in way too many respects it isn’t funny at all.
I bet my brownies are better.

There’s So Much Politics at the Oscars.
Now, as a kid, my grandmother took us to see Sweeny Todd w/ Angela Lansbury
Heard it sucked…Entertainment Weekly panned it and Rotten Tomatoes said it was not fresh
Yes no brownies for this buckaroo, I like to see things in real black and white!
I’d like to see Jack Palance v. The Rock.
Is that one of the Weinstein brothers sitting with Renee Zellwiger behind Johnny Depp? He looks like Meatloaf with those sideburns

I’d tell ya, but Mr Mukasey might be watching… Shhhhhhh!
;~P
It isn’t that I don’t like the oscars, I just thought that the Seigelman story needed a place to be talked about.
Though I did miss the opening of the oscars—thought it started at 9. Did Jon do a monologue? Was it any good?
U teh lucky
shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh does it involve sour cream…………shhhhhh say no more

Why do people insist on wearing colours that do absolutely nothing for them?
The words in my head were…

But, hey, what do I know…
It’s a take..just mine.

August Rush
The story of a charismatic young Irish guitarist and a sheltered young cellist who have a chance encounter one magical night above New York’s Washington Square, but are soon torn apart, leaving in their wake an infant, August Rush, orphaned by circumstance. Now performing on the streets of New York and cared for by a mysterious stranger, August uses his remarkable musical talent to seek the parents from whom he was separated at birth.
wow quite a voice on the girl!
OK this little kid has some kick ass voice
August Rush.. Which I have never heard of but is on my list.

1 put a whole teaspoon of fresh ground cinnamon in,they are pretty good
Just so you know, Bee Movie? So not worth your time. It was painful to even wit through it with a four year old. (And there is a little joke in it about stinging Pooh Bear, and she cried for 10 minutes on my lap because she thought Pooh Bear died. Just say no in a children’s film.)
No Sad Thread for me tonight…
the saddest PBS show i ever saw,was on the woman and newborns of Afghanistan…IT HAUNTS ME
Ruby Dee for best supporting actress
Lotsa ghosts
So, now This is the new Sad Thread?
Serpentine Shel!
i sorry………..i shut up now
luv her.
OK my friend Amy is up now. Hold your breath.
Oh, I love Amy Ryan on Wired. Yay — she got a nomination.
Ruby is 84 and looks fantastic
i must extol the virtues of Colmans mustard
who’s sad here demi?
Tilda! Another great performance.
David Bowie
OT–or maybe not, it seems to’ve been a political show trial–CBS/60 Minutes has the video up re the Don Siegelman story
Tilda Swinton for Michael Clayton. Timely film.
drat but she was great in Michael Clayton
no surprise – she’s scary but she can act imo
Ruby Dee looks amazing this evening. I hope I look half that good at 50.
her hubby and work mate Ossie Davis died this past year, I think.
Bummer. No Amy Ryan–If it wasn’t her, I hoped it would be Ruby Dee
No…don’t shut up.
I just thought we wanted to go some place else, here.
Really, I’ll shut up.
Does she have makeup on?? Her face looks so naked
Wouldn’t have called that one…I love Beadie on The Wire too, she rocks!
ok i need to get out more
Not Cate?
you are 100 % correct…im a bit haunted
Uh, what?
What?
…..
Gotta say, Swinton’s dress is fabulous.
she looked better in the film clip than she did at the awards show.
oh no he passed in 2005
I’ll admit, I’m a bit surprised not to be hearing more about Persepolis here – shirley a fine nominee for the Lake. (Trailer here)
While the Oscars were on 60 Minutes ran a story of Alabama Governor Don Siegelman. The video is on the web now. The White House blocked the first attempt to air this but it finally got aired during the Oscars.
Here’s the link:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories…..9830.shtml
Unfortunately, with a young Peanut, and not much babysitting help for us…we just don’t get to see many movies here unless they are kiddie films or out on DVD. Some day, perhaps, we’ll get a date night again. *g*
time seems to contract as I get older. Seemed not that long ago.
Its the whole androgynous thing. I saw her in some movie with Keanu and I didn’t believe she was a woman
Yep, we know — and there was lots of talk about it two threads down. Thanks!
I don’t think she really cares about all that jazz.
it was a reply to your demi @ 182
Persepolis was fantastic. We saw it a while ago but they have released it nationwide as of this past weekend, I think
And for some *strange* reason, broadcast of 60 min. to Alabama went blank for the first 12 minutes of the show. Funny thing, that.
See, separate gig.
ok this stuff is cheap and so freakkkkkkkkkkkkin wunderful
Seafood Sauce
• 1/4 Colman’s Prepared Mustard
• 1/2 cup Mayonnaise
• 4 tsp. Lemon Juice
Combine 1/4 cup Colman’s Prepared Mustard with 1/2 cup mayonnaise and 4 tsp. lemon juice. Serve over crabcakes or fish.
Here’s a Big Hug…
No ghosts tonight….hugs and chamomille tea.
Elliot, you khow to check up a few comments.
So, I have to ask…You giving me a hard time, on a Sunday Night?
you got funny formatting
Oh, he was in The Last King of Scotland (I know he is in Atonement)
i wanted to see that,i need to rent it
Swinton was great in Orlando.
That would be “Constantine”, and Tilda played Gabriel, I think.
The rain is ruining the NASCAR race here in Fontana, CA and this NASCAR dad is angry and disappointed.
no!
The Deep End too.
ok i cant pay attention and type,so you guys do the play by play
My father was creeped out that Forrest Whitaker had Amin’s voice and gestures down perfectly
Fresh Oscar chitchat thread, up and running for everyone…
I hadn’t heard that. When was it blocked? Any idea who at the WH did that?
Too bad the 60M story didn’t mention that.
All I’ve seen this year is Juno and No Country for Old Men. I didn’t care for either, though their production values were top notch Hollywood quality.
Someone before was talking about the next thread…the one about Afganistan not wanting to go to the Sad Thread.
That’s what I was referring to.
That’s what I was referring to.
i have to see it
its her intensity and acting skill – plus she lives a very interesting life…..
correcto…hubby loves that film
Funny ha ha.
Or, funny, peculiar?
And, yes. To both.
I’m kinda a different girl, but, you know that.
Wow, I must be wrong about Swinton’s dress, Heather and Jessica hate it.
He’s very good. If an actor can go from light-hearted goofy (as he did in Good Morning Vietnam) to creepy as in (King of Scotland) or quiet and dangerous as in (Ghost Dog) then he’s got some real chops.
Oh, it’s actually gained a wide(-ish) release? That’s very good to hear. Maybe, little by little, animation can shed the “only for the little ones” image it’s gained in the past forty years, at least outside Japan.
gottal love the little pixie, Kristin Chenowith, and the great dress, but the song….
I didn’t like it either. Too boxy, bad drape on her. Fabric was gorgeous though…
I like Dame Judy’s outfit on Seth Rogan.
OK, sorry about that. I’m in Singapore so I wasn’t sure if ya’ll had seen it yet. Just spreading the word. Sorry for OT post.
LOL last post was for Christy, not myself.
I think I have that outfit myself…
I liked it in the gallery — not by tv right now. But of course, the thing has to move well, too.
Anyway, congrats to her. (I too was hoping for Ms. Dee, but when all the nominees are good …)
Marion Cotillard was great, totally believable as Piaf.
The song from Once is a real song, written for a really sweet movie.
donde está la biblioteca…
OT: On the west coast just watched 60 minutes. I am so pissed. This is Outfuckingrageous.
Can’t agree with Heather and Jessica about Renee Zellweger’s haircut, I think it’s cute.
