Oh yeah…I remember this dress. Do you? Which celebrity outfit sticks out in your mind as the all time OMG moment? Well, besides any outfit ever worn by Cher.
Thus far, red dresses are a big choice. Katherine Heigl’s was stunning. As was Anne Hathaway’s.
Jessica Alba’s fluffy feathers? Eh, not so much, although I symphathize with the finding of a pregnancy formal. Cate Blanchett’s is a great example of how to be preggers with style.
Who knew James McEvoy was Scottish?
Ooooh, screenwriting adaptations. Boo yah…the Coen Brothers!

Oh! That is frightful.
Please go back after the Oscars to see Siun’s thread. Watch Lou Costello’s video too…
It used to be so much fun anticipating what Cher was going to wear!
Miley Cyrus? Why?
Thanks for the bump Loo Hoo. LINK
Disney film, Disney song, Disney’s biggest current cash cow child star…
Re James McEvoy, I thought he was good in Children of Dune and pretty funny as the younger brother in Wimbledon.
I did…well only because I live with a brit and we have a ton of movies from across the pond
Cash cow? Try factory farm…
Kristen Chenoweth opened Wicked on Broadway
Okay, her voice is just making me itch
Cher does have quite the Bod
She’s a broadway regular and also was on West Wing for a while
Worst dress evah?
How could you forget?
So hows come we have all those red dresses showing up on women in DFH liberal Hollywood? No cobalt blue anyone?
That wasn’t a bad song.. but was it Oscar night worthy?
yep. No contest.
without clicking I say bjork
**cringe**
Ding Ding Ding!
waiting for the song from “once”, and seeing the now in love in real life co-stars performing it.
I still laugh when I think about that dress. It was the silliest looking thing I have ever seen.
if i went i might find one of these
http://americanhistory.si.edu/…..0-3021.jpg
Are any of them? ever? IMHO it’s the most bogus category in the whole mishigos.
i guess they wanted to show her singing chops….. or something
the dead bird dress.
me likey Oprah’s new hairstyle (commercial here)
me wish sh give me a million smackers
Off to watch the Wire, be back later
Hubby just ran inthe room..when he heard Halley’s name but stopped dead in his tracks upon seeing the pale chunky white men
who are these clowns trying to stretch a one liner joke into a routine?
ok switched to Pride and Prejudice
Now THAT is funny. *g* (The running in to see Halle thing, not the two guys…just to be clear there.)
I’ve got two hours till that comes on out here.
I think that would fall within the costume category. That’s no dress.
I haven’t seen any of the Bourne movies but I really liked the books.
I gotta get a DVD player.
Tivoing that. I can savor it better.
ive seen it at least 10 x and never get tired of it
Who is the person in the rather remarkable dress in the picture with this thread? It seems that her dressmaker ran out of fabric and her hairdresser wasn’t available today.
Oprah Uma
Uma Oprah
ok this is not witty repartee lol
the COMPLETE Jane Austen has been amazing(PBS)
But, but, but,
Because of the Writers’ Strike, the writers had only Eleven (11) days to write this stuff.
*g*
It’s a good one — though I’ve been disappointed in some of this “new” Masterpiece series. I liked the new Persuasion okay, but I thought the Northanger Abbey was bad.
the one and only devine Kim Bassinger
ask scarecrow about that. I think he has it memorized. He’s an unrepentant Jane Austin fanatic.
kim basinger.
that is pretty much his lizard brain :)
And Cher looked fantastic in them.
The dress pictured reminds me of one of those toilet paper covers that my aunt used to have in the bathroom.
Pix above: It’s Kim Basinger from the 1990 Oscars.
The only person I even recognized so far was Kristiin Chenowyeth. Now if this was the Americana Music Association awards, I’d recognize some of these people but I haven’t even been inside a movie theater since 1999 when I saw the South Park movie.
I am old.
Miss Austen Regrets was WONDERFUL
oh damn too late its over
she made it…iirc
I defer to scarecrow on this. The 10 yr. old P&P is by far the best version. He didn’t like the others in the series—they changed too much and to quote him in several of our back and forth e-mails, “there is no kissing in Jane Austin!”
That is a hideous dress
she never found her Mr. Darcy
see 52,she sews
wow . . . there are really a lot of fantastic female actors.
707!
They’ve really changed around the traditional order of things. Best Actress up now. They usually save that for almost the end.
It looked like my sister’s home ec project
and very sad that she made so little $$ in her lifetime for her work that gives enduring pleasure.
Julie Christy looks amazing!
Piaf wins.
wow – surprise surprise!!
wow ,i had a flash back of being at Blenheim with my dad and he asked the gardner ,how the lawn was soooooooo green,he said 400 years made it soooooooo hahahahaha
I hate to tell that girl that dress looks like she is wearing a carp.
I wish I could see Julie Christie’s dress. The color and neck line look fantastic.
genuine feeling
betcha people or the enquirere will have them all
i simply want a piece of salmon with mustard mayonaise sauce….no salmon though
the mother is priceless
Where’s Teddy? He’s missing all kinds of Colin Farrell material.
Damn just saw the Siegelman piece… wow.unbelievable. They have lost their minds
I think the only oscars i’ve been interested in, in the last several years have been the animated picture ones. Since those are always a mix of foreign and domestic ones depending on what gets over here. *grin* Have they announced it yet?
“they?”
Wow sorry but this song sucks (well the singing does)
repugs
Do you know if CBS has 60 minutes segments on their website? I’d love to see it… or maybe someone will put it up on YouTube.
im trying to imagine living in the 18th century
mute is my friend
Here’s Scott Horton on the 60 Minutes piece:
http://harpers.org/archive/2008/02/hbc-90002487
i hungry
Nice touch the ratty guitar with the holes worn in it.
/snark
Dirty fingernails.
Dirty pretty much everything.
Unless, you were Royalty.
someone posted that it is already up. I think it was in the previous Oscar thread
JACK!
cheese omlette?
oh thanks
no baths huh
You can see it here.
Jack….Connects the humanity (hey, hey, hey) in all of us.
no antibiotics
no telephones
no telephones sounds like a plus in some ways
no prolonged primaries.
I think I am the only person in the world who hated Forest Gump
Now that they are reviewing all the movies that won pic of the year, kind of makes you wonder why some these movies won……
Dances with Wolves?
i loathe the telephone in ALL its forms
“what fresh hell is this”
Oh nevermind, i found it. *grin* Figures the Pixar film would take it this year once again. But those writers are good in ways that have been years in the making it.
That little Rene is so cute.
Poor Rene. Can we take up a collection to get the poor girl some eyes. She’s just so squinty all the time!
No, you aren’t.
Renee looks good…she finally ate a sammich. She was looking a bit scary for a while there
i love RobinWright Penn
all-time omg–Bjork’s swan dress : >
tonight’s very blah–the Edith Piaf actress looks good tho…and short hair is nice on Zellweger.
Nicole Kidman is entirely plastic now –scary
Nope. I hated it too.
I wish Nicole would let her hair be curly, much prettier IMHO.
wtf is Nicole wearing?
i love Nicol she needs to STOP THE BOTOXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX oy
That’s why I hated Forest Gump. (I adore her too) I thought her the treatment of her character (not her fault) embodied every horrible stereotype inflicted on women of my (baby boom) generation.
What a necklace!
Not sure, but the necklace is lassoing her breast in a most distracting fashion.
She’s going to be Val Plame on film.
Four words for Cameron Diaz: blotting papers and matte powder. Just needed to say that…I bet it’s hotter than hell in that theater with all of those people crammed together in it.
Something that fits a fourth months pregnant woman…
They say Cameron’s career is totally over because of her skin and hi-def. It’s sad.
Kudos to 98 year old Mr. Boyle.
he looks good.
I say Jessica Alba has the best baby dress.
Okay now everybody, who is willing to admit: How many of us practiced our Oscar acceptance speech in the bathroom mirror when we were kids?
Kidman’s color looks really unhealthy–as if she’s consumptive or something.
Wow, that sucks. Can’t they do a dermabrasion magic thing? Or some sort of underbase filler?
You know, I had lunch with all those women the other day.
And, they all had really fabulous things to say about your squinty eyes and necklaces.
I guess it’s all in fun, huh?
And, PS, I liked Forrest Gump.
harummmmph.
But, really, they all had nice things to say.
I guess they can afford to.
the camera isnt kind
Her dress washes her out badly, and it is very wrinked. She’s looked really good in the past, tonight, not so much.
Love the Marion Cotillard win. Here is La Vie en Rose sung by Edith Piaf.
Really? I hate those ostrich feathers on it. The plum color was gorgeous, though. I liked the Cotiallard dress best thus far.
Well it didn’t take long for the media to turn on Obama, CNN is now running a poll on “Does Obama Show Proper Patriotism to be President.” Creates a nice contrast of course with Uber Patriot McCain, details & contact info at Kos: http://www.dailykos.com/story/…..409/463353
For fear of Godwin coming down on me, how is that different from asking, in another place and another time,if Obama is a good German?
thank you muchly
Oh wait, you said baby dress — I really liked the one Catherine Zeta Jones wore in the old clip when she won her Oscar. *g*
I think this award is the only one where they don’t start the music to cut them off.
that old man is so fab…makes chumpy look far worse
I’m with CHS, feathers on the breast is a bad look.
they are dinosaurs, and will be shunned
she is such a magnificent woman, she would look good in a flour sack
It’s so nice to see them honor someone unknown to the public rather than someone everyone has been watching all their lives who has been honored again and again. Unsung heros.
he was dynamite,wow
Frankly, I don’t care about the Oscars. What I want to know is why John Kerry looks and sounds better campaigning for Barack Obama in Texas in 2008 than he did campaigning for himself in 2004? (Event on Saturday, on CSPAN right now.)
Bob in HI
Colin Firth so adorable
because his heart was never in it…i would LOVE to know WHY?
nope–they say hi-def shows everything and that bad/zitty/cratery skin isn’t as fixable–and that from now on only actresses with naturally good skin have a chance (unless it’s some character role or something)–tv people are losing their jobs bec of it also.
It’s sad–many 70s stars wouldn’t be allowed near a camera nowadays.
I refuse to leave the house without blotting paper
still hungry
Were you referring to that awful necklace?
oh yeah………………the demise of witch Andrea Greenspin
Gotta say the feathers on Penelope Cruz show how to do that look: the feathers are above the top of the breast line.
mmm….Dempsey! he grew up to be so hot!
he’s got nothing to lose and no handlers tugging on his leash any more.
We have seen The Counterfeiters, Mongol and 12. I guess you know who lives in this house (we don’t need no stinkin preznit)
Penelope Cruz has a feather thing going on with the bodice too. I like it, even on Jessica Alba. Maybe it was that delicious plum color. But it is hard to find a formal when preggers. I had to find fancy dress when I was 8 months along, it was made by a local awning company, the only place that had enough fabric. *pleh*
yes…I was so perplexed that I paid no intention to what she was saying
You know, I meant to say the other day, I wish they’d chosen Charlise Theron for the role of Valerie Plame. I know Nicole is talented, but I just think I would have liked for Charlise to play that part.
Andrea looks terrible–they’ll be putting her out to pasture soon.
This is way way too much Disney–ugh.
You know, I hadn’t really thought about that, but thinking about Regis in high def earlier, I can certainly see how that would be true. Good lord — that’s going to be like the transition from silent films to talkies, and then from B&W to color, isn’t it, in terms of turnover?
damn missed it…she always dresses well
One of the things that’s so refreshing in British tv/movies is that the love interest characters don’t have to be played by beautybots.
Maybe that will take hold over here????
Julie Christie..
Penelope can wear what evah she wants.
I have been told that the makeup they have to wear is just awful for the skin and that the hot lights open all the pores and lets the goop inside. It’s not like the makeup we use at all and has lord-knows-what in it.
How about best dress…Halle Berry the year she won.
Am I the only one who hates the songs from Enchanted?
Mongol looked intriguing — was it good? I’ve heard Counterfeiters was excellent.
mute time again
So frustrating- TV not working. How long until Johnny Depp wins Oscar for best actor? Generally under-rated, imo.
Isn’t that Scarlett O’Hara’s outfit that Kim Basinger is wearing? I thought Selznick sold that antique to the Smithsonian.
So I think I liked all of the songs this year!
Penelope Cruz was fabu in Volver. Does anyone know if she did her own singing?
Oh come on, Bob…you’re such a party pooper…*G*
Did John Travolta get his hair from a spray-can?
It was fantastic!
not in our lifetime heh
Think I liked Raise it Up best!
oops. so used to typing another Christy . . . .
CARY GRANT never won one,i dont think Mitchum did either
Just luv the, er, mosaic effect in the comments.
I hated all of the songs.
that’s what they say—you’ll see many people gone from the air entirely, and the only roles for them will be weird/side/supporting ones or as villians or something–like Olmos and Bardem do.
Already it’s noticable on sitcoms and stuff how much more goodlooking everyone is, compared to shows in the past.
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
okay who put the golf widget on top of john Travolta’s head??
I was thinking the same thing—remembering the Fabulous Baker Brothers
The Academy agrees with me: the natural song that fit the movie won over the bubble gum from Enchanted.
She did not. But she sure did her own acting, and is wearing one of tonight’s best gowns on my list.
im so glad im perfect
i wonder what the Brits will do? Soon movie theaters will all be hi-def and tv goes digital next year–i’m sure the pressure will hit them too.
bebemos vino rojo esta noche…
Me too.
songs? What songs?
I suppose you liked “It’s Hard Out There For A Pimp!”
que color,i missed it, damn
The actress from Enchanted (cannot remember her name!) is wearing an absolutely awesome dark green dress. With that red hair, so lovely!
Steven Spielberg graduated from my university a few years back. His senior film he submitted was Schindler’s List after it had won an Academy Award. heheheh what was the critique offered on that film?
(en portugues) a gente tambem
when i was married to hub # 1 ,i had to go out dressed black tie a few times a week…horrors
yup–they say that foundation/powder is really noticeable on hi-def so they can’t use the cake stuff to fill craters or anything anymore…
Midnight I think, or black.
Apparently there’s some rather nasty email going around about how Obama won’t say the pledge to the flag, or some such nonsense. Talking Points Memo had a story about it within the last day–a Georgia congresscritter was touting it somewhere.
Gak.
YGM on f/b.
enem portugues sigh I type too fasti just adore, antiques roadshow, course i luv antiques
“im so glad im perfect”
you and me both! ; >
(it is bad tho–and it’ll raise more damaging body image stuff)
yes. classy.
I thought Spielberg graduated long ago from Long Beach State. He didn’t finish?
—
BTW: the sad discussion of complexions are why I will neve watch hi def TV. No one will take the Regis of my dreams away from me. Except for animal shows, gold when I need to pretend I have a manse on the whatever posh hole down by, what Pebble Beash or whatever that tony crud is down there on the coast.
must get copy of people, when i was a redhead,my whole wardrobe was navy blue
Like Cameron’s dress but hate the hair…sorry, it looks like she just rolled out of bed
Well, now that the songs are done with I think I’ll go watch tv;)
See, now Cameron Diaz looks lovely. I think she was just warm…
Cameron’s so fun–but when was the last time she starred in anything? It’s sad. (her dress doesn’t sit right on her tho)
Restylane & nude lipstick — bad combo.
yea,and it starts with the kids, and self loathing,my sis was bulemic
The most beautiful dresses on presenting ladies I’ve ever seen. Just breathtaking.
Yes, I’ll be interested to see what they do. I’m really hoping they don’t change.
Marketa Irglova’ was really good in the movie, and I am thrilled Stewart brought her back to speak. Her Czech accent is so charming.
Regis looked awful on my old non-hi-def tv–he’s like 80something and still pretending to be hip and cool. He should go wherever they sent Joan Rivers (who i really miss on Oscar night, actually)
Or, “Shuster’s Theme”
Thanks for the tip, I’ll try and avoid that in the future.
This part always makes me sad.
No, he had dropped out but had promised his mother he would finish. He re-enrolled some years back and submitted the film as his senior project. He even took part in the graduation ceremony..camera crews were insane. It was back in 2002
The sad part now, In Memoriam.
I know that. I once typed Christie to her a few months ago…moi..*G*
She was terrible in The Holiday. All hand waving and not much more.
cameron diaz sure had some sunken cheeks…….
me too. I forget that so many have passed
Christmas Story one of my fav movies of all time
yup—all that stuff is booming nowadays i hear–it’ll get worse i think. And it seems like there’s no outcry over any of it anymore at all. Even the Model/Fashion Show size-requirement thing was quietly dumped in most cities.
I think the foreigners have been the best thing tonight overall.
These tributes are actually one of my favorite features of Oscar–please don’t ask why…
oh this is teh sad
Real stories on hiatus until the highly choreographed battle of Kabuki press ghosts finished on McCain and the babe. So smear e-mails on Obama will have to take up the time.
Next up will be the threat of fascist Mommy-dom. HRC let it out of the bag with her “shame shame Obama” comment. A fascist mommy pres is a greater threat to our earth and every other threat in geologic history combined, up to and includeing the heat death of the sun.
Can you imagine? “Shame shame shame Addison Mitchell McConnel Jr. you go to your room until you have that GOP legislative propsal straightened out.”
That kind of fascist mommy-ness is responsible for the prssy hysterical men we have to put up with like Carlson, Matthews and Broder, and many more. Only real men like the Dobson can stand in front of it.
I expect the next month or so will be on whether we want a disciplinariam mommy for president. Very irresponsible not to speculate on that critical issue.
She was actually very good in In Her Shoes.
me too
Didn’t know freddie fields died. I liked Freddie.
Heath Ledger!!!
hopefully everyone caught SNL? That Tina Fey thing was wonderful!
Have they done best animated film already? Who won?
yep. My “namesake” was one of them. Parents went to see King Solomon’s Mines right before I was born.
I actually don’t think light colors are that good on her. It’s a very pretty pink, and I like the dress, but she wears alot of white and beige stuff and she seems like she would be better off in something more vibrant.
Ratatouille won.
No, you aren’t. Gimme the gospel music.
Back from Baltimore, what’d I miss?
Was that Rattatui?
loved her…..i posted this the nite she died
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6z4ZWK2ycMQ
Ratatouille won–he always wins. (i didn’t love it at all)
I can’t believe Stewart went along with the way-too-obvious WII and Iphone(?) product placement bits–it’s sad.
Dood! It was every bit as ugly as the worst predictions. It was a devastating indictment of Rove and the Republican establishment. It did, however, show some righteous individual Republicans. How in hell do righteous people identify themselves with that vile outfit? (That indictment goes for my hero, John Dean, too.)
Actually, I was talking about her skin — because we were talking about it earlier. I agree, the dusty light peach flesh tone dress wasn’t a stunner for me.
ah yes, Brasil…
I can live with that *g*
John Dean’s an Independent now. He hasn’t been a registered Republican for a while…just FYI.
Dean has left the ranks and officially become an indy.
ce pode falar portugues?
Trying to stay up long enough to see what wins best documentary. But I’m waning…
whatshername is not vavavoomy enough to wear a dress like that black one i don’t think.
ugh—Hanks–total GOP stooge, and uglier than ever.
he is?…oy
how did they get the envelope to them? weird…and hokey.
I thought someone said earlier that she looked washed out; it’s my premise that the neutral or very light colors make you look washed out, especially if you’re very fair skinned.
Hanks is a ‘puke?
I would not have thought so…well, I’ll have to burn my Splash DVD.
yay! movie against glbt discrimination won!
he is? since when?
That was nice albeit a bit strange (kind of broke the flow) Don’t get me wrong, it’s cool they took part, but I’d rather that they have body armor and stuff rather than an Oscar cameo
Eu posso somente lê-lo…
Maybe not
well if you speak spanish you can usually read portuguese *g* ( I can do the same with spanish)
then you smudge the eyeshttp://static.flickr.com/80/26…..6f7a_o.jpg

SIDNEYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool Taxi to the Darkside won !!!!!!
Taxi to the Dark Side
Best Documentary.
Good thing HBO will be airing it in Sept. before the election.
Yay, Sidney!!!!!! Did I hear that HBO Films is going to be showing this? (Since Discovery Channel decided the truth was too gruesome…)
bravo bravo speak the thruth
THANK YOU!!! finally a statement of support for the rule of law
Finally, a political statement. Seems they may have skipped over Bush’s name. Anyone else think that?
Excellent acceptance speech for Taxi To The Dark Side. His father was an interrogator who urged him to make this movie because he was outraged at the violations of the rule of law. Aren’t we all!
yes – hbo will show film in sept i think
i keep reading about Hanks supporting both sides but that more cash goes to GOP candidates (and that he doesn’t talk about it bec Hollywood supposedly hurts repub actors or something). I don’t have proof tho–it’s been something i’ve heard repeatedly since 00.
If it’s going to be on HBO, I won’t be able to see it because I can’t afford the movie channels. But that was a hell of a speech. Really appreciate it.
Well said. End the Dark Side.
my dog is snoring next to me
yeah – meee
YES
thanks Linda–i didn’t know it was listed anywhere–i guess i heard wrong–(maybe bec of the roles he takes?)
sooooooooooooooooo cute!
It looks like you’ve been hearing wrong.
Love the fact that he maxed out giving to Al Franken.
So is my hubby. He grumbled as to why I was watching. I rpomised I’d watch a film with him afterwards
Baz goes on his back balls up ,and does the same
ohh – i’m sad that he’s drunk repug kool-aid…..
It would have made me sad to think he was a Repub tool!!
It’ll be out on DVD March 11.
uh oh,Ford looks like Ralph Nader
Thank goodness. I love his work, hate to think he is delusional enough to buy the BS.
hah! Adam Sandler gave to Rudy! too funny… http://www.newsmeat.com/celebr…..andler.php
sounds like he took one oo many zolofts…
just did not sound right
whoa Harrison Ford. My hubby looks a lot like him — well in 30 years or so
I know that well…with all the romance languages. i have a funny anecdote wrt to Spanish/Portuguese. One night about ten years ago, I fell asleep to what I thought was a Spanish movie without subtitles…in my REM sleep I could understand the dialogue. Imagine my surprise when I woke upo to what was actually a Portuguese movie! That’s when I knew for sure.
Roadkill mode…
yup–i had Hanks wrong (it’s good to hear that they’re not Repubs–open or closeted ones)
sorry all.
i love her Lulu bob! she rocks–the Juno writer.
Dakota Cody wins for best tattoo.
hahahahaha
he is sooooooooooooooooooooo very adorable my boy
I used to teach Portuguese and many of my students had studied Spanish and thought it would be a breeze to learn the language. Well grammatically they picked it up with ease but the pronunciation….Meu Deus…I had to make a little sign that had ESPANOL printed on it because they would fall back into Spanish so easily
God I miss John Wayne.
ok thats my fave dress
way too many red dresses, no?
And earring
I love Helen’s dress, her overall look. So elegant
OOOOH best dress of the night!
mirren? she always looks great–the younger ones should look and learn–older women usually do formal better.
OOOH: Helen Mirren!
go GEORGEIE
Remember Helen Mirren in Excalaber??
Helen Mirren is teh awesome! One of the best dressed of the evening. Great color, a bit of bling, age appropriate but not frumpy-dumpy. w00t!
need. some. BLUE.
whenever i see Clooney i think Facts of Life ; >
Daniel Day Lewis always plays the most intense roles
Aren’t the red dresses part of the campaign to raise awareness about women’s heart health? That’s what I assumed.
I love DDL toooooooooooooooo
OMG
THAT DRESS!!!!!
i haven’t been THIS dazzled since some Bob Mackey back in the 90s!
wow
i love the sparkles!
Many hot men in this category.
Helen Mirren then next Judi Dench. Destined for damehood.
Vigggggggggggggggggggggggo!!!!
it’s weird too–red on the red carpet is bad, but it looks good on tv.
No green either, really. Very subdued colorwise tonight–and tons of black too.
One of my favorites movies and the first time I ever heard Carl Orff’s O Fortuna. To this day when i hear that song, I think of that movie.
DDL
ohhhhh—if it’s for that, then ok…i didn’t know.
If so, I’ll give them that. But my guess is that most of them aren’t that intentional about making statements.
I like Viggo but something about his teeth…
anybody seen “There will be Blood?” What do y’all think?
OK Dan …take off the hoops
Did DDL play in Gangs of New York?
What’s with everyone’s hair tonight? It’s like they all just got out of bed and couldn’t find a hair brush.
Viggo is very hot–he has a sexy Ed Harris-ish thing going on.
oh yes
never too many red dresses ok lol
Whenever I see Clooney, I either think of Roseanne or Golden Girls.
Teh Google sez yes.
He was awesome in that too.
Helen Mirren – rrrrrrroooooowwwrrr!!!
did you see him in “the unbearable lightness of being”?
here’s an article about the Hi-def skin thing— http://www.abqtrib.com/news/20…..-new-chal/
— “High-definition TV face-time gives actors new challenges”
I was wondering if he won the Oscar for it. I’m sure he was nominated for it for that year.
Yes — and I meant Excalibur, not Excalaber — typing too fast.
I liked it. It’s quite intense and there’s no cute, happy, Hollywood ending. It was well done.
The friend I went with was a little freaked out about it.
loved him on Roseanne : >
(did he have his chin fixed or something tho?)
Not yet.
Mmmmm, Ed Harris-yummy. Also Sam Elliott.
i love Martin S
Yes he did…it was on the other day and I started to get sucked in. Was just looking at it on IMDB
He was a cutie back then, but now he is in Cary Grant territory. I like now better.
now that’s a speech.
I saw There Will Be Blood, Daniel Day Lewis is a bit of a scenery chewer for my taste.
i dont dig Cohen brothers sorry
mebbe Raising Arizona
yummy denzel
I saw two old-time actresses I haven’t seen in, like, forever tonight: Anne Jeffries and Jane Russell. Wow!
total Cary Grant–a little too much i think.
Oh, i was in Rome in the fall, and he’s doing Nescafe ads there–too funny. Some pod machine thing.
O, Brother, Where Art Thou was practically perfect in every way.
No Country For Old Men, best picture.
here it is: http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/sto…..ryId=90679 — Just making a living: Clooney defends Nestle ad –it’s for Nespresso.
I read somewhere lots of big stars do foreign commercials for mega-bucks that they would never do in the US. Do they think no one would ever see them in the states?
remake of a Preston Sturgis
is it over?
OK, I sat here and somehow missed best actress?!
Are you sure? I thought it was an original screenplay — based on The Odyssey.
Done! Done! Done! Now for “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.” See y’all tomorrow!
Busted – Best actress Maria Cotillard for La Vie en Rose very early in the evening
Wait, the tall freaky looking red head.
The La Vie en Rose actress.
i stand corrected,oh brother where art thou was taken from Sullivans Travels but was a different plot
OK, Sheese!
My CRS is getting bad.
Thanks.
probably, madmommy. it’s dumb in the internet age to think anything public like an ad campaign won’t be found out here.
Japan is chock-full of US stars in ads. The Lost in Translation premise wasn’t made up at all.
Night all — this has been lovely.
My favorite from the whole night: Marion Cotillard, and in honor of her fine work in La Vie en Rose, here is another original Piaf: Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien.
Cotillard was also fun to watch in the Russel Crowe vehicle, A Good Year, 2006.
blah oscars, but fun thread : >
George Clooney is very publicly childfree, so I ALWAYS root for him.
Helen Mirren, too. Helen Mirren ROCKS!
my fav too, masaccio–foreign actors always come off as more honest and less staged, i find.
sweet dreams
I wonder if Christy managed to see all of it, she was fading a while ago, poor Mommy wuz tuckered out.
indeed – this was very fun :o)… now i’ll bid all pups a bon nuit…
This was fun, but Monday is a work day, toodle-oo all.
Fine. But, how could someone that decent and smart have ever been a Goldwater/Nixon Republican in the first place. And, please understand, I don’t say that by way of condemnation of John. He has been a hero of mine since he first opened his mouth at the Watergate hearings. And, I asked myself that same question then, i.e., in 1973 or so. Shit! I’m talking about 35 years ago. But it’s still a mystery to me.
