Funny, how the same news media that uncritically and unquestioningly pass along John McCain’s lies as if they were truth (not to mention racist-originated attacks on McCain’s Democratic opponent, Barack Obama) give far less coverage to a man who speaks the truth about Senator McCain (h/t dday):
Q: So there is big news about John McCain — the story that is in the New York Times, raising questions about his relationship with a lobbyist. This is a story the McCain people are saying is unfair and untrue. What do you think?
Dean: I have no idea whether the affair story is true or not, and I don’t care. What I do care about is John McCain — and this has been well-documented — is talking all the time about being a reformer and a maverick, and in fact, he has taken thousands of dollars from corporations, ridden on their corporate jets, and then turned around and tried to do favors for them and get projects approved. He has tons of lobbyists on his staff. This is a guy who is very close to the lobbyist community, a guy who has been documented again and again by taking contributions and then doing favors for it. This is not a guy who is a reformer. This is a guy who has been in Washington for 25 years and wants to give us four more years of the same, and I don’t think we need that.

Hey Phoenix Woman!
helllllo
:)
scary now … can’t have people speaking the truth … esp’ly about that crazy maverick!
Good morning, PW! I’m having a “duh” moment here, or maybe it’s just a senior moment. Who/what does that refer to?
yeah, thanks for asking Marion.
i was too embarrassed.
McCain’s spokesman/lobbyist had already denied this smear. End of story, lieberals!
morning pw
maverdick indeed
We can always count on the good doctor.
The best thing about Howard Dean is that he always had hit it right using the plain truth….
We need to keep this alive here on the blogs so that the poor tired MSM will finally do their job…
There’s not too much that embarrasses me any more!
The maverick has been branded!
BTW- Bu’ush’s latest Code Brown drool:
“When Congress reconvenes on Monday, members of the House have a choice to make: They can empower the trial bar, or they can empower the
secrecy of my lawbreakingintelligence community,” Bush said in his Saturday radio address. “They can help class-action trial lawyers sue for billions of dollars, or they can help our intelligence officials protectthe secrecy of my lawbreakingmillions ofcrony corporate dollarslives.”Uh, are we all dead yet?
Marcy is all over the McCain stuff with her usual bucket of Clorox, btw.
lol
no, me neither, but i HATE appearing stupid! especially here.
lol.
Look McCain’s lobbyists are honorable men so let’s just ignore the lobbying that is going on in the bus. Next week we find out that they are patriotic also.
LOL!
GOOOOOD UN!
The real story on Mr. McCain is that he is a failed con-man. While purporting to be repulsed by K-Street, lobbyists are running his campaign. I rest my case regarding dismissing McCain out of hand as a liar and a hypocrite and a Bush stooge.
Mr. McCain, you are damn near history.
Google is my friend. I just looked up buh-buh ray dudley and discovered that he’s a wrestler.
lol :) ty. Need to ask Darkblack to make an image.
Don’t feel bad, Marion. You weren’t alone. I sorta read this:
Team 3D (Wrestling)
which mentions the quote, but I’m still not sure I understand.
What’s fun so far is the denial of the Wingers to say anything of depth to the actual charges…except to deny there was an affair and to say Mac is a real stand-up guy, a paragon of ethics. And then, attack the Times and the rest of the “liberal media”. That seems to be their entire game plan: deny everything and go on the attack against the messenger. Hey, it worked for Bush for, um, seven years?
Good luck with that, guys. The Teflon’s finally rubbed off and the substance is sticking to the pan. Let alone hitting the fan.
OK
i got it.
is WWE wrestling, DVon is the bro of Dudley, and it means “get the table, to slam him through”.
it’s related to being pwn3d.
see here
I just googled again and all I could find out was that’s his favorite quote. We definitely need PW’s help on this.
Oh yes John McCain. We’re making progress in Iraq all right. The best that can be said about you and your relationship with George W. Bush is that you are a fool.
AP – Rockets or mortars hit the U.S.-protected Green Zone early Saturday, just a day after powerful Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr ordered his Mahdi Army militia to extend its cease-fire by another six months.
Thanks siri!
(just my opinion, but no one looks stupid for not getting a pop culture ref, esp’ly one from the dim dark past ;)
What’s up with security at Obama’s rallies being cut back? I saw over at AmericaBlog a list sent in by commentors that the lapse was more than just Dallas!
my sig ot here has a neanderthal tiny spot in him, he watches wrestling and spained it to me.
all that DUMB just came of use! who’da thunk?
Hopefully we hear more from Dean.
it’s rampant.
I found it interesting on Tweetie the other day, when all of the bobbleheads (Tucker among them) clucked on about how “nobody cares about whether McCain” was screwing Iseman.
EGGZACKLY! I am tabula rasa about bunches of recent “culture,” and as for wrestling… Thanks, by the way, to all the folks who scrounged around and found out about the Dudleys.
like THIS!
It will be JFK-Nixon tv debate redux when Obama makes McCain sweat in their uopcoming television debates. Bye bye, Mr. McCain.
IAOIYAR
um, i’m bettin Cindy does. “back to the oxy” time in her house!
McCain is yesterdays news. Obama is tomorow’s hope.
Exactly. Recall, in contrast, the Clenis.
Secret Service defends security strategy at rally in Reunion Arena

It is a damned if you do and damned if you don’t and throw in the it is scary with our knowledge of the past and how freaky some wingnuts are…. and it came out in Dallas of all places…
Yesterday some ID10T called our local progressive radio going on and on about Senator Hussein, thankfully Jeff just shut him down and dropped the call.
I called and brought up the subject that in 1961 Obama’s Mama named her son with the middle name of a future Dic tator (which the USA created) in say 25-30 years in the future….. wow pretty special!
So the wingnuts want to penalize a person for their name….the ONE thing that none of us had any control over…but then… that is logic and reason and so liberal of me to think that way…
Have you noticed that you can almost always tell about someone’s political leanings on a story like this, simply by which part of it gets their attention?
In every single conversation I’ve had so far about this, everyone who does NOT support the Republican party emphasizes the problems with McCain and lobbyists, and his relationships with Iseman and others as related to political favors…while every single Republican supporter I’ve spoken with has focused on the affair part.
The article never accused McCain of having an affair with anyone (though it DID mention that his associates were concerned that the relationship might be romantic, and that in only a few sentences out of the entire article.) And yet, that’s the part that sets off the lizard brain response.
The moral majority is very much concerned with affairs.
And notice nobody THIS time is saying, “But CLINTON DID IT TOO!” *L*
AP – Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s must-win states of Ohio and Texas are no cakewalk for her, largely because independents and crossover Republicans are welcome to vote in their Democratic primaries.
OT,
but I just saw this and signed it.
Telecom Petition
i know it’s about the bazillionth one out there, and I THINK i signed them all. If you didn’t, it’s probably a good idea.
Interesting. In 2004 I went to a Kerry rally at Thomas & Mack Arena here in Vegas. I could have walked right in with a rifle with a scope on it hidden under my jacket, and I subequently had a clear line of sight to the senator down on the stage. No one checked me for anything.
Scary.
Jeez I was just browsing around over at emprtywheel and Marcy has got McCain dead to rights eight ways to sunday.
This guy is not going to make to the convention. Between Paxson, Sinclair Broadcasting, Charlie Black, Iseman and Renzi he is really damaged goods.
It’s kind of sad, the cons are f*cked.
instant karma.
and there’s not a “sad” thing about it!
This story has nothing to do with SEX…unless of course you take into account that St.McBush’08™ is the DC lobbyists FAVORITE cheap whore……gang-bangs a speciality…no waiting.
What I meant was, it’s pathetic!
Same lack of security at Yearlykos in Chitown?
What I’ve seen is that the right wing has been very successful at making the NY Times the whole issue. Barely addressing the substance. You can’t do that without the help of the media.
They’re doing it with the Obama military story too. They find some little nub and key in on that. The whole point of the story disappears and the focus becomes something else entirely.
Once again…the repubs can’t succeed in doing that unless they get the media to go along.
As for Gov. Dean. Only the liberal blogosphere will hear his words.
And the bobbleheads on MSNBC are speaking of the Clinton campaign in the past tense.
so, at bush rallies, they throw people out for having anti-war bumper stickers on their cars, while at obama rallies, you could bring in weapons? guess, since the secret service guy said so, this must be according to plan …
it’s overdue, is what it is.
you have a great site there too, Sangemon.
GOOD ONE!
loved the open letter to Obama.
My lady tells me she thinks Howard Dean, Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama are in cahoots. She has a feeling that these three are co-conspirators in their attempts to put this nation back on the right track. As you might suspect, I agree with this with view.
He is if the FACTS about this slacker come out. The pukes are trying to deflect the NYT story to seem like a flawed sex story, and take the attention off his way too close relationship with K Street.
Mc is a fraud and he is ethically challenged and blind to who he is. If he gets real scrutiny he will be exposed as another sucker for and suck up to K Street.
That story has to be pounded again and again as Dr. Dean did.
Another stupid comment from our stupid Pres. Bush managed quite abit of tort-reform in TX going after those trial lawyers. For sometime I have thought, eg.lawyer jokes, that lawyers are one of the few groups left where one is allowed to insult, ridicule, impugn, without pushback. I’m beginning to think they also should be a protected class; I have a moral stance against ever laughing at or repeating a lawyer joke.
Leave it to Bush: he is probably lawyered up to his s** for brains top of his head. Ooops, I should not have gotten started. To compare a fair legal action in the hands of trial lawyers to his illegal do whatever he wants (no wonder he doesn’t like them; they stand for law) makes me ill.
I feel like I don’t get to hear enough from Howard Dean since he became chair. It’s good to see that the Doctor is indeed in.
Thanks!
It’s something my dad and I started doing together a couple of years ago. He just turned 89 and he’s amazing.
i agree. wonder why we haven’t heard from him more.
how wonderful to do something like that with your dad!
and GOOD FOR HIM!
still goin’ at 89!
what a blessing!
If the MSM doesn’t report it…. did it really happen?
Dean is another person the MSM marginalize just like Edwards.
But “unindicted” Kiddo, “unindicted” *g*
John McCain. There is a growing feeling in cities and in the hinterlands that you’ve been a naughty little boy. A impression that you are letting lobbyists run your campaign. And that you are denying the obvious. Not good.
far more than Edwards I suspect.
And I think of them as the corporate media and NOT as mainstream.
Reading Marcy’s site It looks to me like the facts are the facts and McCain is a crook. Now it’s our job in the Netroots to make sure that those facts are brought to light, This is something that we have shown we can do, just ask Abu Gonzalez.
Good morning, everyone!
Sorry I’m late — was up late, took what I thought would be a short cat nap this morning and the next thing I knew it was 11:00!
GOOOOD for you PW!
AND thanks for this post.
gave us a run there for a minute.
hehe
Morning PW!
Everyone wants to know what the last line means.
Much of the current McCain scandal results from a simple misunderstanding about language. Take “honor” for example. Iseman for her part honored McCain to the great benefit of her clients. McCain in turn honored Iseman. In fact, he honored her as often as he could. And taxpayers? They got honored too. See. It’s so much easier to understand once you know how language is being used.
did you guys see Bob Geiger is back? he’s over at The Agonist now, WITH Cliff Schecter!
kewl.
Hey PW -
great post!
(and thanks to siri and Marion and Bilbo: I’m clueless on pop culture references)
Hugh – you are reminding me, ol’ livestock owner that I am, of the whole issue of the meaning of “service”.
Sang, i got it, at post 22.
Thanks, Hugh. Think I understand now.
Have I got it right?
It’s like the Piranha Brothers sketch in Monty Python:
Except that, unlike Stig O’Tracy, McCain keeps denying everything even when the evidence is there for all to see.
Want to hitch a ride with McCain or Obama? The difference between riding with McCain and the esteemed Senator from Illinois, is that John will be driving a Model-T. Senator Obama will piloting a Corvette.
Yes…. this is the same as the Plame outing, Scooter Trial and Gonzales.
The local Phoenix media has moved on….. nothing to see here…. After all the upstanding Rep Shadegg told all of AZ that we should take the word of the Senator over some newspaper…. (insert liberal, eastcoast, NYC, dude(not surfer type))
When I hear it here…. when the AZ Republic(ian) will print it…. THEN…
So what does that say about Hillary’s comment at the end of the debate about what an HONOR it was to be there?
Heheheheh!
A devastating clobbering of Harold Ford and the DLC agenda now up at Kos http://www.dailykos.com/. What was he thinking??
Hillary was using “honor” as a noun, rathern than….ahem, a verb.
O don’t know; Obama is awfully cute.
Eeeeeeek! Electoral Kryptonite!
Even funnier: Dangerstein’s in the mix! (Read all the way to the bottom!)
I wonder if McCrazy woke up today and put his shoes on the right feet.
Dday over at Hullabaloo is on this too:
Spiny Norman!
(wot’s all this then about not wanting me meds?)
This story, which is in its embryonic stages, fits a familiar pattern of denials from Republicans that don’t even touch the real substance of the story. Keating 5 was an early symptom and Dr. Dean recognizes it. Now McCain is beyond biopsy, he’s under exploratory lap.
What will be seen are lobby metastases. The MSM are their usual superficial selves, with Norah O’Donnell and Timmeh Russert showing the moron side of themselves. From Ditzbrain Noron: “McCain and the Conservatives have turned this story to their advantage.” The hell they have. The lobbying revelations have just begun.
Many other shoes have begun dropping and you can expect Marcy to continue pointing them out.
Christy linked Salon’s Joe Conason’s McCain: Reformer or Phony
always worth reading. The NYT is just beginning, and what I’m enjoying about this is the fools like Rush Limpjaw that have launched into Times bashing.
The McCain Article: Ask the NYT Newsroom
Files and McCain Letter Show Effort to Keep Loophole
A Hole in McCain Defense by Michael Isikoff alluding to a deposition done by Dan Abrams’ father, Floyd Abrams the First Amendment expert.
It will be disappointing if the rest of the print media go the way of Norah’s comment, but the chances of that happening are slim and none.
Finally…. for a couple of years I have brought up an 2006 article where it noted that AZ had garnered around 91 BILLION of defense contracts since 2001… THAT our two Senators really brought home the bacon…(all from memory)
The similarity I see in Senator Clinton and Senator Obama is that both these honorable people are extremely intelligent. Perhaps equally so. The difference I perceive is that one of these good Democrats is wise. The other… perhaps not so much.
New book just released by Media Matters David Brock
Free Ride: John McCain and the Media
I find the DLC intensely to my disliking. Hope you are having a great Saturday. Thanks for the link.
I wonder if it has much about Cindy. She may be thinking twice today about her observation that he wouldn’t do anything to hurt the family. She may believe it. She was very young when she married the guy, so she may be just waking up. Esp. if she has taken care of her addiction problem. She may not think all these Sr. moments are so great when they are so public and embarassing.
Danger Stein? Who could have anticipated . . .
Dean has the right instincts on this issue. Attack McBush night and day for bein in the hands of lobbyists—-Of course if you could get some guys who served with him in the navy to make a commercial about what a shitty commanding officer he was- well that would be even MORE impactful.
funny, so funny, why, I can’t stop laughing
man, my head is gonna explode I can’t stop laughing so much
I was rather disappointed to see Sen. Clinton frontpaging Sen. Obama’s ‘ties’ to the Weather Underground on her website.
You’d think after being labeled a DFH for years would have prevented her from going down that road.
I hope she’s getting some good oppo research checks from the GOP.
-G
or a transcript of a conversation with a lobbyist.
Everyday people who have had contact with Cindy McBush have only one adjective to use in a phrase that goes like this…..”what a b*tch” …. hear it from workers at Champus provider (military insurance) and others areas…. they shutter ….. so they might be quite a pair…
If McCain had just had another affair (and we’ll find out if he had one with Vicki), there wouldn’t be near the significance as there is that his relationship with her that is a metaphor for the way he has been in bed with lobbyists for years.
Maybe Cindy McCain is remembering the affair he had with her that helped finish his first marriage with Carol.
While Michelle Obama was working on her senior thesis Cindy McCain was working on a married man.
-G
This guy is not going to make to the convention. Between Paxson, Sinclair Broadcasting, Charlie Black, Iseman and Renzi he is really damaged goods.
Republican voters do not care about corruption within the Republican Party.
so me and my friend have a bet on whether or not there are going to be elections;
I say in the past 232 years we have had 58 elections give or take one
that means the odds are about better then 58 to one that we are going to have elections this cycle as well
so I am taking 25 to one that elections are suspended, this is a good deal for anyone that wants to take the bet
now, if this type of bet becomes known around the internet, it innoculates us from elections being suspended
I’m just saying, start taking the bet, take the odds and we’re good to go
Blast from the past
No, but they do see when a candidate is completely and utterly unelectable.
And they don’t particularly like being lied to.
I agree, he’s not going to make it to through the primaries
so who replaces him?
mutt?
huck?
ghoul?
chuck noris?
Let me check back tomorrow after hearing Scott Ritter tonight discuss his book Target: Iran and his latest trip to the middle east….
The GOP has set the stage for a terrorist attack occurrence on US proper to be sufficiently blamed on Pelosi, Hoyer and Reid.
-G
I can’t agree with you there peterr, they sort of expect their candidates to be lying to them
what I am saying is we can innoculate ourselves from this
if we start taking bets, they will understand we will know they did it and we will not tolerate it
we have to do something to get it out of their tiny little brains, don’t forget, the closer they are to loosing their seat in power, the more brazen they become
Maybe quite a pair; who knows? Or, maybe she won’t want to take much grief from him either. Yet, there are lots of names of women who stay, Jackie, Lady Bird, Mamie, Eleanor, Barbara, I guess. Mrs. Johnson said something like she could not have had a more exciting life. I am sure it is hard to imagine living in the spotlight with both the excitement/perks and the scrutiny. Cindy does not look very comfortable to me, whether b/c of him, the media; I guess we will see.
someone should put up a site to that effect!
good idea.
No, it’s more they expect your candidate to lie to everyone, and their candidate to lie to you (the evil opposition) — but their candidate is not supposed to lie to them.
John McCain. It has come to the attention of the nation that you have been dragging yourself through the mud, among other things. And that you have been trafficking with known lobbyists. And that you have committed perjury to the American people.
correction noted
so no body wants to take a guess who replaces mkkkain?
Just because a lot of people lie, doesn’t make it acceptable.
but you know, I think they’ve given up on winning this election. so, figure they might as well throw up someone useless, assuming there are elections, and watch him get wiped out. Despite mcbushain being bought and paid for, he hasn’t gotten the funds flowing into the right thug pockets, so he’s not their friend. They’re happy to see him go.
at this point, there only option is to avoid elections or smear obama so badly that there the election is close enough to steal. even w/o the latest details about honor, mccain is an obvious loser.
I might put my money on chuck norris
Nedra Pickle.. from AP has a hit peace on Obama questioning his patriotism. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/obama_attack_fodder
See Siri at #22 above. Sorry for not explaining!
The thought here (in our home) is that anybody the Republicans might bring up from the swamp will be a sacrificial lamb. Just a guess. ;0)
Despite the Keating Five, I really didn’t think McCain was corrupt. I believed his bull. He was part of the drive to clean up campaign financing etc. The reports of the last few days as well as Marcy’s post are eye-opening. Maybe corrupt isn’t the right word. But very much in support of corporate interests. Then to say with a straight face that he opposes the very policies he enabled….well, now you’re in Lieberman territory.
it’s the huck/cheney ticket fot the thugs in 08 …
ECW was once a higher class of dumb, until Vince McMahon bought it. The Dudleys were among its most entertaining acts.
PW, Don’t worry, we all had fun googling! Yahoo has an article about Obama that I tried to link to questioning why he doesn’t wear a flag pin and why he doesn’t hold his hand over his heart during the National Anthem.
A B-2 bomber crashed on Guam. That’s $1.2 billion you can kiss goodbye.
http://www.nytimes.com/aponlin…..sh.html?hp
Hagel replaces McCain.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/obama_attack_fodder let’s see if this works
I didn’t realize we needed to kiss each fleeting billion. That’s a lot of smooching.
McCain has been endorsed by George W. Bush. What else do I need to consider? In terms of Mr. McCain.
but the base hates hagel…more then they hate mccain
I think hagel would have a good shot and is the only one with a brain enough to actually do a decent job
See, the Republicans want to pretend it’s all about the sex because in their eyes that’s the only thing that makes a scandal; plus it’s a straw man that can easily be knocked down, and they hope the straw weighs enough to drag the actual scandal out of sight.
But that ain’t happenin’. As dday said at digby’s shop last night, while the TV media pretends this is a non-story, the print media (and not just the NYT) is ripping into the actual scandal with chainsaws a-blazin’.
This is classic manufactured outrage. St John is a proven sleazy pol, I mean how many people remember the Keating Five? It does not seem that anyone in the millionaire pundit class seems to. Is it some kind of collective amnesia? Space rays from the Pegasus Galaxy?
No, it’s just the media protecting their access to the “maverick” “straight-talking” alumni of the Charles Keating Clan.
Everytime a Dem pol goes on TV they should make a point of saying “Keating Five” in every last microsecond of airtime they get.
Well, like I said, they’re kinda f*cked. They could go with Huckabee or Romney, but I don’t think the oligarchy likes either of them either. There’s always Gingrich I suppose, but they don’t have an Al Gore waiting in the wings.
But that all misses the point, I think. I don’t really think they care who their nominee is at this point. It’s pretty obvious to anyone conscious what is going to happen in November (and let’s leave “National Emergencies” aside for a moment). I don’t think that they want to win this one. They know that Bush has fucked everything up. They are not stupid. The next president is probably going to have to do some unpopular things. They want to be in the minority through that cylce so that they can throw darts and rebuild. Don’t think for a moment that they are going to go away. That is why we need to elect the best we got, because whoever that is is in for a ration of shit like none of us has seen before.
See above.
Yeah, Hagel is my fear, not my hope.
I worry that the Republicans, stunned by the reality-based conclusion they are going to lose, might actually nominate someone with a chance of winning.
sad stuff on think progress right now;
1.2 BILLION?? For one airplane?
Give me a Bonanza any day.
Bloomberg.
The B-2 was such an idiot idea for a plane. It lost its primary mission with the end of the Cold War. And it cost so much that it is essentially too expensive to use. The Guam crash more or less shows this. The Air Force just blew a billion to no good purpose. Expensive and stupid, a great combination.
That sums up so much about this administration.
Sangemon — that is a great point.
Replicans are like the barnyard animals in the children’s story “The Little Red Hen.” They want the hen to make the bread, then they’ll show up to eat it.
I’ve been saying since this story first broke, the new york times gave the gop a gift when they published the story
they knew it was going to come out sooner or later and they published the story so the repukes had a chance to regroup
but will they cut off their own nose and nominate a republican they hate?
I kind of think that will be a no…huck has too much under his belt to allow it, and mutt gave too good a speach for mccain, there are prices to pay and they are gonna have to pay the man in the wings, which man in the wings remains to be seen
No one. The other candidates have seen the handwriting on the wall. Who wants it? Mitt’s going to wait it out. Rudy’s thinking that a loss (with max exposure) will ruin his other businesses. Grandpa’s lapsed into a coma. The PTB would rather have McCain than Huckster. The others don’t have enough support. They’re going to be forced to go with McCain.
There are signs that all the repub energy is now going towards ensuring that they destroy the next president, which says, to me, that their planning on losing in ‘08.
Dinsdale! Diiiiinnnsdale? Dinsdale?
wow
that would be a good choice for them, would he take it?
Why couldn’t Mitt come back in?
Solai – I saw a clip of KO interviewing Pat Buchanan and Buchanan said as much. They are willing to lose this one and even the next one to regroup so that when they come back they “will take it all”. I was chilled when I saw him say that…chilled.
The Right and the media construct narratives and then defend them like manicas regardless of the facts. McCain is a straightshooting maverick and they are not going to let a little thing like reality get in the way of that narrative.
Then of course, there is the kneejerk defense of the Right. A week ago McCain was being vilified by the same people who are now defending him. Why? Because they aren’t the ones doing the vilifying.
hee hee hee
pretty much agree w/ that analysis
That may be how “the party” views it, but there are plenty of egos in the GOP who would love to step in and be the messiah candidate that saves the party and the nation at the last minute, in a grand and glorious come-from-behind, rags-to-riches fashion by beating the unstoppable (and evil) Democrat party at the electoral wire.
Plenty of egos.
Right now, there are a lot of folks in the GOP “huddling with their advisers” and watching this whole story very, very carefully . . .
Paul/Nader 08 !!!111
wow again
that’s what they did to clinton, they couldn’t attack his record, he was mostly a republican in democrat clothing, so they had to go after his life
If the Repubs took this nomination away from McCain they would have to put him in a rubber room somewhere. He would go completely crazy and probably harm someone.
There are signs that all the repub energy is now going towards ensuring that they destroy the next president, which says, to me, that their planning on losing in ‘08.
Exactly. It’s not as if they’ve stipulated to how badly bush has screwed everything. Or that they were all complicit and in fact aided the train wreck. The extent to which this country has been changed I fear will not be known fully for a long time. It will take 50 years or more to undo what bush and the republics have done to us. My children will not grow up in the same country I did because of these evil people.
The Repubs will have a difficult time destroying Obama, IMO, because of his oratorical skills, he can get the American people behind him. Think of him as an intelligent Reagan.
I for one think reagan sucked at talking, I think the whole “the great communicator” nonsense was manufactured by the media he created when he rescinded the fairness doctrine
that’s a little scary … since reagan was so completely a tool …
Great post PW. That quote made my day.
But the American people listened to Reagan. He used the media more than any president more that FDR and his fireside talks. Obama has a gift and he won’t be afraid to use it.
I think you have the tail wagging the dog here
the media forced reagan down everyone’s throats without a shred of critisism, even though he was a moron, even though he stole middle class asets and gave them to the wealthy, even though he shrunk the middle class
EVEN THOUGH HE RAISED TAXES MORE THEN ANY PEACETIME PRESIDENT IN HISTORY
so you have the tail wagging the dog, america didn’t “listen to reagan”, reagan was force fed to america and he was not in the least bit “reaganesque”
McCain is just another shameless huckster who gloms on to whatever he thinks is needed to win.
Yay, he’s a reformer! Now he’s a conservative! Soon to be moderate!
Phony and bitter.
-G
The reason why McCain will be the Repug nominee is that Repugs work from a top down management…. They tell them what to do and the troops do it…
That is the difference with Democrats…. we are bottom up…. that is the basis of a Draft a candidate on the convention floor or a brokered convention.
I despises anything/everthing Reagan, alf included, but I think your point is valid.
As things shakedown in the next few weeks with the Dem candidates for Prez and Congress, and we’ll be able to pinpoint our efforts more, we’d be wise to rally some of our support and resources around Howard Dean as well.
The DLCers are still around and have a lot of money and influence still, and we know they’ll be doing everything in their power to undermine and oust Howard. We must make sure that doesn’t happen. Howard Dean is as responsible for the 2006 elections results and the current record-shattering Dem turnout as anyone. We must “have his back,” now more than ever!
Perris, Your point is well taken, but if he is the nominee, and if he wins by a large margin; then the media will adapt or people will tune the 24/7 news out. Lots of ifs but one can only hope.
yeah? well, thanks. i can’t sit thru more than 30 seconds or so of it.
it’s ok tho. bf cannot DO Congressional debates hours on end all day long, so we’re even.

When he dropped out he pledged his delegates to McCain….
I’m with Michelle Obama, the Dixie Chicks, and Mark Twain: “Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.” ~Mark Twain. I have not been proud of my country these last 7 years, as well as certain other periods in our history, such as when we moved to Texas from Kansas in 1957 and I was called “ni**er-lover” by classmates because I had gone to school with blacks all my life in Kansas and did not understand the concept of segregation and got into fist fights over my view. And now, likewise, we are better than we have been portrayed by our present government which wants us to be fearful and cowering in a corner, willing to give up our Constitutional rights to be “safe.” We are a courageous people capable of meeting the world and its challenges with shoulders square and chin high. Barack speaks to this courage we possess and of our “better angels” — therefore, the Obamas have my full support via both donations and action.
I think I saw you in St. Paul the other day…*G*
Howard Dean’s contributions to the Democratic Party are historic and positive. But sometimes he overstates and he should not state in cavalier fashion that he does care whether the “affair” story is true or not. Not because the “affair” story is important but because Dean’s statement can be sliced and diced and taken out of context by the Repubs. The NYT and the MSM, a la CBS, have been grossly irresponsible in the past , Judith Miller, Jason Blair, Dan Rather etc. Our interests in this election should not be tied to so called reporting by the NYT.
and i suppose that parrot really is dead!!!!!?
