ES almost made it here for tonight’s thread but that nasty bug that’s going around has stopped him in his tracks. He asked me to say the following to ya’ll:

May the Dogs of tiny Phillips-head screwdrivers and grounding straps shine upon thee!
g’nite katymine

Heh, One needs to be well-grounded, in more ways than one…! Aloha, Katy!
*sigh* i bet it is lovely on the islands tonight CT
sleep well, Katy!
Fela Anikalupo Kuti! “Black President!”
I was able to catch the man in San Francisco just a few years before his demise. Concert was a hypnotic swirl of Afrobeat rhythms, gyrating scantily clad danceuses, and the pungent aroma of skunk. Danced ’til I was exhausted and several pounds lighter and soaked with perspiration…The pregnant friend I was with said her baby was kickin’ in time with the talking drums.
Lurker reporting briefly to wish you well, Snow storm over, not dramatic as NE snowstorms go (or used to). More expected. Must away, before Hawaii-envy consumes me.
thanks for the weather report BSRH – stay warm
BSRH – you’re a commenter! Good luck with that stuff.
what is this snow of which you speak?
Kirk (formerly from Santa Monica)
this takes me back…what?…100 years?
hey spidey
kirk, isn’t it that frozen rain stuff?
…anyone have a birthday tonight?
Hello all , we maxed the limit on dungeness crab this evening for the first time this year, then sent Obama $50.00 for fun. It felt great.
All the president’s men is playing on the CBC. Damn that film is good. We need another Mark Felt…
Bonne nuit encore. I had my suit on this time…;)
Nope but my b day was Valentines day
Yep. jealous.
well then I expect you are good at many things TCU
Damm! Straight!
I really enjoyed your post on body/mind and how it is affected by the trauma history. Even 2800 words is brief for such a broad topic. The same for McCain can be said for Bush and a psychiatrist did an evaluation of post addictve behavior as a dry addict that Bush is.
The next driver of the world’s leading nation needs to be controlled by reason and good judgement.
These kinds of post are really interesting.
I would not be a good president as I am still pissed about the twins comment toward JE who i admire as a progressive leader who put this presidential campaign back on track. He ahs earned a lot of credit for his leadership when he was ignored by the other candidates and the press in the debates. I believe he has a lot to offer America and I hope his wife gets well now.
It was cold and very damp, a typical day on the Oregon coast, lol.
My late dad’s birthday was the 15th.
He would have been 100 years old.
But of course! I tried to post a gorgeous pic of the snow shrouded Mauna Kea from Hilo Bay but the local rag doesn’t archive those pix…! 8-(
If you do dogs Tucker is three
…but particularly writing
It’s always muggy in Hawaai, but warm with plenty of Ocean.
thanks bb – and I hope the best for Mrs Edwards, too. I miss him and admire her.
31tudor, congrats on the limit
hi, spidey!
Thank you!
token’s birthday is sunday – he will be 3
…and I have a picture of you laying up treasure in heaven…can that be right?
Could anyone one tell me when Oregon gets any primary action? I am ready to vote.
‘lo kirk…how’s the doctoring business?
I give spare change to homeless people?
Hey, Tudor
savor those yummy crustaceans for me, too. Jealous does not begin to describe…
FunnyDiva
Mine too. 47.
Well we need to bring TokenTreats to the MeetUp.
Liver?
Chicken?
lamb?
may 20th according to this site
…standing beside god, directing the action…
Heh, drinking age for him! 21 yrs old! :-)
token is a very very fussy eater – he prefers people food – but only after sniffing it suspiciously to make sure nothing like a pill is hidden inside it.
My great-grandfather was a leap year baby. He died in his nineties – claimed he was in his 20s.
Are you inviting all the neighbor dogs for a hoot…a birthday is bit the same without a nice party…bones cookies and treats. Decorations, invitations and ball games…let the doggie games begin.
Blackjack loves hangin at the coffee shop with the other dogs and their owners. Especially Monday Farmer’s market is so festive and all the great smells and noises…it is by the coffee shop as well.
Happy Birthday Token from Blackjack
I write allot on this blog and maybe influence a few people? Does this mean Jane is the Goddess?
suzi…have never done dogs – much : )
spidey, life is good – tho i haven’t been doing much doctoring (left the county clinic last month)
Did you get to see the eclipse?
Wherever you are, hope your stars are good….
We got lucky today, usually we get 6 or 7 but 12 is tough in a day. It must have been something with the eclipse then almost full moon. who knows.
oh spidey, i wasn’t asking – it just occurred me that his birthday is sunday when nahant mentioned tucker’s birthday
Do the ephemerides apply to our canine brethren…? *g*
eclipse was lovely from here – blood red at one point
Thank You Spider Paws:)
i was socked in with clouds :( saw the last one tho. wow, blood red for the longest time
TCU be careful standing between idealism & confusion
Ok folks I have chores to do, I just checked in to say hi.
Have a good weekend :)
enjoy cleaning up after all that crab, 31
My b/day is Thursday, the 28th spidey – been shamelessly hoping my kiddos have taken my shameless hints for my very own iPhone. ;~)
Hawaii was outside the viewing zone! 8-(
hey npb
CT I do not think so…a different species
g’nite 31tudor –
bon appetit. please wave to the Oregon coast for me (and give my regards to crab)
npb…seeing your head in the encyclopedia
Too bad is wasn’t the 29th, you’d only age every leap year then, Ma’am! 8-)
But, the stars were in the same position for them…! 8~P
Great catch I always figured it was the price for my gifts the thing that leveled me back to equal with everyone else. Everyone is equal I figure just luck and effort raise us up my time here has been luck and effort both going my way.
Of course being around so many smart talented people knowledgeable about so many different things does help the writing and supports the idealism when I get down.
yes but human destiny is different from dog destiny
Yes’m, I was teasing ya… We never studied their characteristics in relation to the stars…! *g*
Wow, Moyers is awesome tonite…!
crap – i forgot it was on tonight. i’ll have to catch it on the rerun.
Yep. Sarah Chayes is amazing. She has been after this since her first visit to Afghanistan.
What will happen with McCain? I see “Paxson refreshes McCain’s Memory” up in the cornor here from emptywheel
Now he’s really hammering the earmarkers…! Mostly, Repugs, natch…!
the Sarah segment is coming on now…
I just caught the end of Moyers and was enchanted by the mother and daughter, Hillary and Barack voters respectively.
Suicide car bombings are a new phenomena for Afghanistan… Similarly, there were none in Baghdad under Saddam…! 8-(
From the last thread
“Simply put, we want to bring out the wackos to vote against something and make sure the rest of the public lets the whole thing slip past them,” he wrote. “The wackos get their information [from] the Christian right, Christian radio, e-mail, the internet and telephone trees.”
What goal motivates a person to manipulate people that you obviously despise? Or is the question backwards what kind of person manipulates people with no regard/respect/empathy for them. I’m sure Kirk has a whole list of disorders.
I speculate that the goals are selfish in nature though cloaked in whatever reasons the person thinks will motivate the herd. The reasons don’t matter Bill’s adultery was a means to an end, to end Bill’s presidency.
But notice Rush and company dismiss McCain’s adultery perhaps it because it gets them what they want.
Selfish goals tend to be shortterm and bad for the long run which sounds like the entire Bush Presidency can a mental disorder be prevalent in an entire political party?
Why then are the sheep who do believe the way they are?
Sarah and Frontline World. Amazing story.

Fascism comes marching in, wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross… 8-(
hello all,
a little over cast but mid 40’s in Dresden.
Kirk, in your post (or was it one of the comments) i was lead to “raw story” where it said that Mark Penn’s firm actually owns Charlie Black’s firm. i can’t think of any single bit of information which spells out more clearly what we’re up against.
If your rich your every desire is fulfilled instantly for the most part rather than accepting no you cheat to get your way. Money buys you a pass from the rules they don’t apply. Could being rich and ignored create an environment that creates mental illness?
Guten Tag, Fahr! If K Street can write the laws, they surely can apply the law…!
Been getting a lot of phone calls – mostly from people worried I’m organizing some sort of demonstration against Exxon at tomorrow night’s Anchorage Symphony concert, which is being sponsored by Exxon 3 days before the Supreme court hears the class action lawsuit by over 30,000 Alaskans who were slimed but never compensated during and after the Exxon Valdez oil spill
I’ve been writing about it this week, trying to get the symphony not to publicly ask people to applaud Exxon so close to this emotional event for so many Alaskans. I’ve been telling the callers that I’m not organizing a protest and that I don’t know what i’m going to do tomorrow myself.
That’s what’s on my mind.
God and Country the biggest things that appeal to the most people.
I still think ya should moon ‘em! But, hey, I’m not you…! *g*
my butt’s so small nobody would notice…
perhaps a silent protest – everyone objecting standing up at the mention of exxon’s name and turning their backs to the stage.
i’ve been following this over at your blog, et, and look forward to your reporting of the event.
spiderpaws – wow an encyclopedia! Have been known to get awfully sleepy when researching so it wouldn’t surprise me if ya caught me in a nap. I actually did fall asleep in the Bancroft Library a few years ago and remain grateful a fellow researcher discreetly nudged me awake. ;~)
That could pose a problem…! 8-)
wow faherender – that is a perfect illustration. vertically integrated “opinion” purchasing: take the candidate’s money
to tell her how serve the megacorpsfor “consulting”; pay for ads to select plaint candidate.things, in the ;ast two weeks I saw an aricle describing how 5% of people IIRC in a crowd determine how the other 95% psosition themselves.
Think kthe report was carried on new scientist or BBC…
sobeiriniing.
i’d find it but i sniffed the rainpplug-up.
whatever banch of evolution came up with sinuses were out of their heads.
gooodnigth pups – slpeep well. and sleep well, too.
the problem with protesting at an Anchorage Symphony or most city’s symphony concerts is that the people who go to them aren’t exactly liberal – by and large. And in the period I’ve been an adult, since the late 60s, corporate sponsorship of orchestras, opera companies and such, has gone way, way up. A lot of these corporations pay half the price of their employees’ season tickets. In Anchorage, most of the big corporations are fucking oil companies and oil company service groups, etc.
g’nite kirk, hope your sinuses unplug soon
Nighters kirk – hope you can make it to the Boulder Creek Firepup meetup on March 2nd – would be wonderful to meet you.
All the more imperative to moon ‘em…! Jez sayin…! *g*
fork
nite kirk
I’m sooooooooooo jealous! 8~P
Aloha, Doc!
More pix less video, eh Newt? *g*
Yes, Boss…

Let me reiterate…….. 8~P

head hanging in shame
Maybe if I started paddling…? *g*
i’m not as proficient with chopsticks as i am with forks tho – takes me a few minutes before i stop dropping everything all over the place.
Aw, rest assured you’ll be there with us in spirit CT! If you can make it to Salinas I could get ya up to Suz’ cottage and back – we have two comfortable couches free in two separate rooms if anyone wants to stay over on the Monterey Bay southern shore.
Hah, Rookie!
*taking glare off stun*
Woo hoo! Any news from Scarlett on the meetup?
Mahalo, NPB! I’m thinking of Military Hopping to Denver, or as close as possible, I’ve relatives living in the Denver area… I want to be at ground zero… ;-)
haven’t heard back yet, npb
Good on you CT! Can we look forward to some live blogging from the convention?
I’ve gotten into the habit of using chopsticks at least once a week with my own rice dishes. *grin* Amazing considering i refused to learn how to use these things as a kid! But being a regular of local sushi bars? Good motivation, for really good food.
Pretty good for a wacky little lefty.
Can the party have a mental disorder…when they vote in lock step to protect their greedy interests you betcha. Greed fueled by self interest…a non socialized phenomonon…anti-social behavior not patriotic statesman like behavior is sick. E pluiribus Unum in reverse.
If I make it and Denver’s Finest aren’t hosting me…! ;-)
ok, pups, time for me to go clean house. i have a showing scheduled for tomorrow afternoon so i gotta make it all sparkly and shiny again.
nite suzanne
sleep a little if you can
Pretty good, indeed! I’m impressed. ;~)
Chopsticks necessitate ’sticky’ rice… Uncle Ben’s doesn’t cut it…!
Good Luck, Ma Cheri! Aloha!
Gotta be the cleanest house within 100 miles of Santa Cruz!

hello all,
a little over cast but mid 40’s in Dresden.
Is it true Fahr that Dresdenders go out in the evening in their lederhosen with their walking sticks looking for stairs to climb?
I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
Can the party have a mental disorder…when they vote in lock step to protect their greedy interests you betcha. Greed fueled by self interest…a non socialized phenomonon…anti-social behavior not patriotic statesman like behavior is sick. E pluiribus Unum in reverse.
By acting in lock step around a common interest greed probably with discipline enforced by threats well it seems sociopaths can despite their antisocial tendencies work together as a group. I think that they are sociopaths I am not making a diagnoses. I thought that antisocial people without empathy could not work well with others in a group though.
Well yeah. :P Which is why i now have a rice cooker and a regular place to shop for the nice sticky rice. One of the things i like about my city is plenty of asian groceries around to get this stuff. And the japanese curries i’m fond of. Indian ones are way too spicy for me.
It is the GANG mind set… gangs are sociopathic and require discipline in the group…pecking order and for the benifit of a few while society pays.
Gave your listing to 4 realtor friends…it is hard for them to take a client to show your place but you price is below this market…which is bad.
There may be close to 100 million homes with debt higher than equity. It is very scary. at with a negative of $50K each that would be $5 trllion. Whatever it is the equity market is no longer liquid and that drives prices down. No matter if you sell low you can buy low.
Plasma because it is everywhere.
you mean ladder hosen that get a lot of stares?
funny, they do that bit with the ski poles. i saw some out walking this morning in the Grosser Garten. Lederhosen, not so much in Dresden. you see it a little bit but that’s more Bavarian or Austrian, or at least Saxonian village gear.
Morning anyone awake…
I also feel like recycling this from thread top:
yo
Yo brother…
Just you and me here. I gotta get some breakfast, so I’ll be in and out. I missed a lot of stuff on the threads yesterday…was reading through them late at night
People are going nuts it seems…
Yea, the time of the season, maybe the moon. I’m reading Keller’s email replies on the Times site and it seem like they are hangin tough. “If you can keep your heads when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you”!
Thanks for reminding me of that. I’ll go there now. Yesterday was kinda nuts for me too–privately.
As you might surmise, I have quite a rich private life…that’s best kept private…*G*
From WAPO
So what, you say. Idiots like me and Facebook’s 65 million other users are publicizing our personal lives voluntarily. Corporations aren’t exactly sneaking into our bedrooms; we’re inviting them in. The problem is that most people who perfunctorily fill out social networking forms don’t understand the privacy risks. It’s not just the publicizing of data that endangers privacy, after all; as other analysts have articulated, it’s also the ability to search, aggregate and find uses for that data. Unlike newsfeeds and Beacon — controversial features that broadcast users’ activities to their friends — data mining by Facebook, third-party advertisers and applications is hidden.
Consumers, plain and simple, are too unsophisticated to realize what can be done with their data. Besides, users may have offered up information before even Facebook realized what it could do with the data, since the company only recently developed a coherent plan for making money through advertising. If advertisers (and biographers) were to research my profile archives, they would notice that it’s not just my more sophisticated tastes in movies and men that transformed my profile over the years. It’s also my more sophisticated understanding of how Facebook could sell me out. Unfortunately, for at least a “reasonable period of time,” my wily revisions may prove worthless.
Yep yep yep–
As I tell people these days, especially young on’s, Google is your resume, period…
That’s why I’m so glad I have a close friend who is a Google site manager who gave me instructions about how to remove a nasty Google entry or move an item up to the Google front page.
Will you be at the book salon at 2 FDL (4 CT) today?
BTW, I also think it’s a good idea for people to Google themselves every f*cking day…Just to see what some idiot might have written about you at some point that the various search engines have picked up from the cyber-garbage-dump…
I do…Google myself…I mean.
Must check out the Fela later …
Day-to-go 332 is also the 4th anniversary of one of Alan Greenspan’s signature moments, when he got up ‘fore an audience of the Credit Union National Association and told them all about household debt:
Emphases have to be mine; afterall this is Greenspan here.
And the rest is history.
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins and Herbert today. La Collins says it’s “A Bad Year to Be a Mallard,” and points out that there is something about an election year that makes politicians start bragging about how many critters they’ve killed. Mr. Herbert’s column is titled “Hillary on the High Road,” and he suspects that Hillary Clinton’s biggest hurdle from the beginning was the unforgiving nature of time — the tides of history changing.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
The coffee, tea and hot chocolate are ready, and while we were out doing errands yesterday (hurray for a day off!) I picked up some chocolate croissants for this morning, and some plain ones as well. Enjoy, and have a great day. 332 days of W to go…
Good Morning everyone.
Good Morning! don’t those chocolate croissants sound divine!
They sure do. Marion is so thoughtful and gracious.
Dang…and I just had a raisin bagel with cream cheese..sigh. Good morning everyone. It’s 23 here in Upstate New York. Storm is gone, but the snow is just waiting for the shoveling..
ever since i was misquoted as wanting to make violent acts against our government (at lGF i think?) for a comment i left at glenn greenwald’s blog (back in his blogspot days), i have set a google email alert for my “name” – just so i will get the warning if it happens again. luckily my “name” is not common and so i rarely get anything.
Good Morning, Thanks to Marion for reading the NYTimes oped pieces for us and providing wonderful goodies.
oh my achin’ back!
chocolate!
damn. you make me want to whip up another batch of elliot’s amazing chocolate cookies.
my “name” is not common and so i rarely get anything.
Lucky you. My name is not common either. The one guy who slandered my in cyberspace: I sued his pants off in US District Court in Minneapolis and got a settlement…
(Disclosure: I went through two major cyber-wars in Web 1.0)
BTW: A close friend of mine (whom I met in China in 2002) now works as a site manager for Google. He gave me a set of instructions about how to (1) improve entries in Google, and (2) Bury abad item in the back pages…
I posted info on this several days ago and asked that I’ll be glad to send any FDLer interested in having these instructions. Just send me request by private email. I did get many many bites. Not surprising,
And no: Google will not delete an index entry unless you can show that a legal judgment was rendered in your favor against whoever is responsible for that entry was entered.
thanks!
ygm.
