John King asks Hillary if the surge is working. Hillary nails it and rejects the premise of his question, reminding him that the surge was about political progress. Good.
One wonders why she applauded Bush during the SOTU when he said it was working. Oh well.
Obama says it’ll be easier to debate McCain on Iraq when one candidate was against the war from the beginning.
John King goes after Obama on earmarks and says no one knows where the money went. Obama tells him it’s not true and mentions the "Google of government" where you can look up where tax dollars are going.
Hillary knocks McCain on the Bush tax cuts. Good.
Earlier…
Hillary goes back to health care. She clearly sees this as a key distinction.
Obama responds by bringing up Willard’s plan, which fines people for not paying in. Hmmm. Never heard that before.
Hillary says she "fundamentally" disagrees with Obama — says she wants "universal care."
"I think that are adults are going to see that they can afford it under my plan," Obama says. "The notion that I am interesting in leaving out 15 million people is not true."
On foreign policy:
Obama: "My number one job as president will be to keep the American people safe." Oh, Lordy this again. No, Barack. It’s not. It’s to defend the Constitution.
Obama makes a convincing case that we screwed up by taking our eye off the ball and going into Iraq.
So far, with the except of the "Xerox" exchange, the debate has been pretty ho-hum.

Fitz! This Monday!
zed
Brown asks about “biggest crisis.”
Instead of asking directly about Monica.
EPU’d
Okay, we have had the amnesty question for the poor and tattered desperado’s living in the shadows. Can we get a question about amnesty for billion dollar telecommunication firms violating the constitution in broad daylight? Whatcha gonna do about it?
woooooooooooooooooo hooooooooooooo
is that a “snark” look on Clinton’s face when she looks at Obi talking???? I think she’s freaked out. it just NEVER occurred to her that she MIGHT LOOSE this thing!
does Cambell=Clinton
Just how zed’s can you get for one thread??
good analysis
She’s turning the question around to be not about her! Yeah Hil!
Obama just talked about himself.
none. the zed is dead.
Be right back. Talk amongst yourselves, oh hell, Hillary is getting verklempt.
Ixna on the eroxzay
Quite the softball question for Hillary, but she really nailed it.
Kumbyaya my lord
She’s kicking ass baby!
I think when she looks at him like that, she’s trying to stop his heart with her mind.
Im glad its most over.
She has been good and so has he. But she hasnt really stopped him.
That’s it. Penn or somebody got her to invoke McCain…Is she frikkin’ crazy?????
There’s a mole in her campaign or in her brain…I don’t know which….
LOL!
Good closing by both…
hehe, yeppppers! THAT’S the look!
and NOW the slice and dice
Is is me or does Obama look angry?
Uh-oh, here come the comments on Barack pulling out Hillary’s chair!
VERY good closing.
EPU’d:
It seems a lot of folks here did not get the memo:
I believe it is from a HuffPo post today (sorry no link… I’ll look for one) where it is revealed that Obama has the same speech writer who wrote for Patrick… and so no big surprise that similar/same words would be employed in the same context.
So Obama didn’t copy, steal or plagiarize anything… his speech writer was lazy and used words he’d previously penned for a similar situation.
So will everyone just take a deep breath and realize this is a NON issue… and the fact that the Clinton campaign has labeled it plagiarism is completely disingenuous and typical behavior from frantic politicians.
That last statement sounded like GWB. All the faith stuff but she was sincere.
I almost thought she was going to concede.
Clinton has gracious close saying she is honored to share the stage with Obama.
zed is dead
It’s you …
I’m going to vote Obama but in the general I could vote for either easily.
Yes Reisz, Obama is the angry black man that the rightwing blogs have been warning us about.
We got it.
-G
Hmm. The ending handshake and quiet comment looked good and genuine. On both of them. I like them getting along personaly even if they are in a dogfight.
I think it is great to just have a woman moderator. She is the first for the Dem debate – no?
Last night KO said, “when it over tune into us so we can explain it to you”. Oh my god, that may not be the exact quote!
So Obama hired a lazy speech writer? Damn, how is he going to stand up to the terrorists?
lol
Peter Beinart on MSNBC says Barack did better
Joan Walsh disagrees
Good debate for the Dems. Might not have dug into all the details but a few, and almost all civil.
I really got turned off by the attacks, but there were only a few so it did not build up.
I think its about a toss-up. Clinton a bit more on the policy but weak attacks. Obama a bit less on policy in a number of spots, but subtle yet practiced in his defense/counter-attack where I think he won his part of the debate.
Huh! Has anyone EVER seen a standing O at the end of a political debate before?
Admittedly, it’s an Austin audience (town bu;mper sticker: “Keep Austin Weird”).
I’m liking this debate thingy, and our prospects for Nov., more and more.
I haven’t completely decided on my vote, but think I’ll go vote on Sunday (early voting in Texas). I work election day, pretty much the entire time the polls are open. And I’m beginning to think the lines are going to be very, very long! *g*
wow. i didn’t see it that way at all!
Hillary cribbed Bill:
“The hits I’ve taken are nothing like the hits you take every day,”
I like Hillary. I don’t like her advisors. Some said that about W.
No, Barack. It’s not. It’s to defend the Constitution.
The oath of office does not designate the order of importance of the President’s jobs. And the very first part is about faithfully executing the office of the President.
Christy asked very nicely that people shit the fuck up about the stupid ass argument about plagiarism .
I could except for the dynasty issue. I dont want to see us back to Clinton.
Bahhh Candy Crawly – lets get to the KO.
I was talking about how she nailed the question about how she handled her worst crisis. You didn’t think she hit that one out of the park?
Okay, a preemptive strike on any crankiness because I’m tired today: what was the best point for both candidates tonight — their individual best moments this evening?
what about the “hit” all of us, Americans, We The People took when she left the white house with property that belonged to us? THAT was sad and just below the belt!
I hope that is a joke
Now these jackasses on MSNBC are on it.
Oh, come on. You know your candidate sucks! *g*
Ditto. She should have saved 6 million bucks and told Mark Penn to go suck Dick Morris’ feet.
She is far better than that hack.
-G
Better than more Neocons.
Dynasty.
Requires genetic relationship.
When Chelsea runs, you can start complaining about a Clinton dynasty.
I thought him ignoring the xerox was swell.
We get your schtick…and it’s tedious.
Christy asked very nicely that people shit the fuck up about the stupid ass argument about plagiarism
Raven – was that a Freudian slip?
Yeah. I take it you didn’t laugh?
Hillary’s best bit, to me, was her response to the last question and her closing line.
Obama’s delusional comments.
HRC’s closing remarks.
“You didn’t think she hit that one out of the park?”
She did indeed.
She got a standing ovation from a very Obamite crowd.
Good for her.
I missed most of Debate Thread #2 and all of #3.
Are we all still getting along?
I’m stealing this quote.
IIRC biggest applause moments were for Obama on succinctly critiquing the Iraq war – winning issue for him every time; for Clinton best line/applause came in her closing comments, which were excellent – humble and magnanimous.
Definitely the closer for Hillary and I think Obama’s answers to the immigration answers were his strength.
Who? I vant to be jung again!
i’m glad it’s over. the whole thing annoyed me. i really had to force myself to listen to it. neither one of them inspired me in any way. am planning to vote for obama and caucus for him here in texas. but i could hardly stand to listen to either one of them.
Reagan/Bush, Bush/Quayle, Clinton/Gore, Bush/Cheney….
A Clinton dynasty is not the problem.
Yes, but that isnt the issue and Obama polls far better against MCain.
I get along with every one … I just don’t agree with every one.
no zed??
So, if you were a professor and you had to grade them. . . :)
I still think there was a hint of concession in that statement.
The “delusional” remark was witty, but trivial.
The closing remarks brought the house down. Even Barack knew she’d hit a game-winning homer.
Okay, a preemptive strike on any crankiness because I’m tired today: what was the best point for both candidates tonight — their individual best moments this evening?
—-
Obama best: his counter-attacks, obviously well practiced
Clinton best: her policy discussions
Both had great openings, and I missed some of the close but Clinton seemed to be having a good close from what I saw.
Great close. Not good: great.
You’ve gotta give it to these two incredibly brave human beings for their incredibly exhausting and hard fight to help us save ourselves from Bushco.
Applause! (ditch Penn HRC)
Venezuelan jet with 46 aboard missing and/or crashed. MSNBC Alert.
lol … i’m in the ANYBODY but BUSH bleacher… I wouldn’t be very objective ;-)
none.
Oh god these twerps are going to grade them too.
I likes your style
night knuckle heads
I’m really glad Biodun led you here!
I had that feeling, too. That’s what made it seem genuinely magnanimous to me.
Is that how she got here, OMG!
Hey, I’ll go for it. Campbell Brown: F
‘night, Raven!
I truly thought it was a civil debate between two formidable opponents, neither lost tonite…! We won overall in comparing their rhetoric tonite, versus McCain’s to date…!
Iraq–the surge is going fantastically well. John King nailed that so accurately using the usual MSM/Republican Senate tack of praising the surge without having to explain how the surge is working.
Sadr Expected to End Truce
Kiddo has gone upstairs to bed and says he’ll not go to sleep until I join him and he is finished watching a movie with me. What humor that man possesses. I have to wash the supper dishes. He cooked and I do the cleanup. That was the deal tonight. And we both look forward to tomorrow morning. Both of us liked the debate tonight. We wish each and everyone of you sweet dreams tonight.
L.
Whomever is doing Gloria Borger’s eye makeup needs to be smacked.
hey doodle, if you got an emergency call in the middle of the night, would you want to go to the ER with me? hopefully this won’t happen
thank you! it’s been fun!
If I remember correctly… I thought you were going to bed?
I keep seeing it. And its less funny each time.
Personally, I think stopping the Neocon agenda for the entire world, is the biggest issue in all of its veiled manifestations — war, economy, world domination by shock and awe force, of our times.
You like McCain better if it comes to that?
I think it’s going to be Obama. I just don’t see how he loses at this point.
Tonight’s Austin Debate Transcript
@yup and you know ANY democratic candidate has to look stellar after the WORST president EVER!!!
Something truly pathetic that virtually every response needs to begin with a preface correcting the false framing….
Clinton had good points against the questioners. Obama had good responses to Clinton’s attacks on him. Clinton had the best moment of the evening in her closing remarks.
Sweet dreams, Lahoma.
Coke drinkers suck!
(high fructose corn syrup)
To extend on Obama’s best moment – we really made a link that people might know but not think very often that we are dumping oceans of money in Iraq (and he had the judgment to be against it).
I do not think it was an Obama crowd I think it was a more vocal Clinton crowd, but I do think its obvious Obama supporters boo’ed her on the Xerox comment – though I would as well (not supporting either, voted for Edwards).
zed is dead? how about z0d?????
It would be s nice to really hear them without the sound bite hunt. Pandering to all of us. But they cant.
I cant wait for this to be done. Im excited for my country and the young people standing in line and getting active. I think Obama is a transforming person. A rarity. Our country will look and feel good in Nov.
I dont think he is perfect or always right but look at his record he brings folks together and is asking all of us to work for change…all of us.
I missed most, can someone provide a link that explains their respective positions on health care. I think I heard Hillary for universal health care, what does that mean, that Obama would require parents to provide health care, and he lost my vote on that if true. It is a very bad idea, because it is not affordable now, what’s going to change, that would just add more vultures to the group already attacking us. If I miss heard I stand corrected.
What’s up? You know I’m here for you.
Say what? What are you talking about? Shed some prarie sunshine by rewriting what you’re trying to convey in English.
When did Lucretia Borger move from MSNBC to CNN?
-G
You know, I really have a problem with Booing when it’s Dem on Dem, I think we should leave the weapons of mass destruction for Republicans
I’ll bet that kiddo will be asleep before the movie starts, right about when ya finish the dishes, Lahoma…! ;-
g’nite K and L
Per Andy Borowitz:
“When Obama was asked about the alledged plagiarism he said
‘It was the best of times. It was the worst of times’”
Her best moment was her closing remarks. It was soaring. But, at this late date, probaly not enough to change the direction of this nomination battle.
He did not have a soaring moment, but was steady and avoided any big errors. That was, given his position, good enough.
some disturbing symptoms. i have a doc appt at 10 tomorrow morning. got sent home from work today and am basically on bed rest till i see the doc.
As someone who tried, in vain, to get tickets to the debate, I’ll tell you how tickets were distributed. #1 – geographically spread across Texas – #2 – 40% Obama, 40% Clinton, 20% independent/undecided.
I don’t know zod…who is she/he?
Are you okay?? I’m too far away. What is going on. Email if you want to. L
Is there English language for you to explain what is “pathetic”?
You have comprehensive reasons on how the surge is working or the political questions are making progress and being decided in Iraq?
The questioners couched their questions in Bushspeak talking points which had to be deconstructed before moving on to a meaningful answer to the underlying issue.
Rachel!
Countdown is on now…does this mean we don’t have to listen to Tweety’s chirp?
Did you call and talk with your doc today?
She meant that when John King says: The Glorious Bush surge is working soooooo wonderfully, how dare you say anything different Mrs. Clinton/Mr. Obama.
The premise of the question proposed by the Bush fluffers is always reinforcing Bush’s position and degrading the Democrats.
-G
You know, I really have a problem with Booing when it’s Dem on Dem, I think we should leave the weapons of mass destruction for Republicans
—–
Agreed. I should not have said I would have boo’ed, but would have thought about it. I do respect the debates and let them go for it. But just as I was sure the Clinton supporters were booing Obama in the earlier debates it was not a completly natural booing (it was Obama supporters).
I’ll sleep with the cel phone next to the bed, you still have my number?
Well, I don’t think this debate will make much difference in the trends. Both candidates did OK, but there wasn’t any real drama.
I’m tired of all these debates. Can we just vote now and get it over with?
I truly thought it was a civil debate between two formidable opponents, neither lost tonite…! We won overall in comparing their rhetoric tonite, versus McCain’s to date…!

Wow- Pete, I think Prairie was commenting on how we have to wade through the MSM’s framing, not a shot at you.
Easy, there.
High fructose corn syrup, hmmmm!
KO is for Obama, they have Dan A for Clinton.
Isn’t 136 a little late for the zed?
John King the surge is working….
Excuse me, not, as Hillary pointed out. Can’t answer a question that’s framed falsely. The MSM is so coopted by roting blastfax talking points they don’t recognize or are in deep denial of their culpability as enablers of BushCo spin.
that high fructose syrup getting to you?
Ahem.
I hear that the folks who run this place aren’t real big on threats of violence.
*g*
Thanks LS. I will let you know if i need something. right now i need my kid to shower and pack his lunch and DO AS HE IS TOLD! yeah right

You know where I am. I’m there if you need me. L
KO correct, I think Obama made no mistakes on immigration issues. He kind of split the difference on Cuba – but most Cuban Americans will likely vote for McCain anyway. I am thinking Obama might take Texas.
Suz!!!
make my mine a double
Maybe you didn’t hear what I zed before, so I will repeat it…
The zed is dead. There is no zed.
WordPress used to label the first comment on a thread as comment “0,” but that would flash only for an instant, and then become comment “1.”
Somebody around here got the idea that “zed” meant “zero,” and started calling the first comment in a thread the zed.
Actually, “zed” means “z.” And the current architecture of FDL no longer produces “zero” comments. So it never made sense to call it the “zed,” and now it makes even less sense.
The zed is dead. There is no zed. There never was.
Or at least he (for Obama) and Dan A (for Clinton) play one (supporter) on TV.
Good, I’m calling…
I think Kirk is trying to jump the gun on the next thread.
Maybe even the next 20 threads.
Are they going to ask if the closer was Clinton making a play for VP… that is what Tweety would say.
Yes, but she meant it in a good way.
The Zed Lives!
Have you no sense of tradition? *g*
KO ain’t faking it!
Has he said so? I hadn’t heard him say that.
What irks me is that almost without exception, Greg I have been hearing the news commentariat and people like Saxby Chambliss, Kit Bond, Jeff Sessions, several other Republicans in the Senate and House and people like John King, Wolf Blitzer, and Tim Russert summarize Iraq by saying “the surge is working” or “the surge is showing positive results” when to me it’s clearly not working. They never qualify their proclamation but simply glibly state that the surge is working. It’s a ridiculous dumbing down of what is still the same level of chaos in Iraq IMO.
The army is not standing up; the police force is not getting qualitatively or quantitatively better; the refugee problem has never been worse with the US not lifting a finger to measurably change it, and there hasn’t been any significant political progress–which was what the surge was billed to facilitate.
Things could get a whole lot worse in a few days if the cease fire is called off.
Aren’t you the Bar Keep, Ma Cheri? Or just the wench…? (ducking!) ;-)
No, she knows there’s no way he’d pick her for VP. He’ll pick someone like Bob Kerry.
CNN…Hillary should show a little leg…WTF???? Did I miss something?
The truth behind the satellite downing.
SDI boosting propaganda.
-G
I just couldn’t figure out what you meant at first. I agree with you fully. I must have missed Hillary’s reply switching to “Lost.”
Not right out loud, no. But it seems obvious to me…
Uh oh.
Wishing you an emergency-free night.
No.
Damn… I just Google the economy. Apparently it sucks.
And Hillary hires lazy (because she also “plagiarizes”) AND inept speechwriters. Guess that portends more failures in the war on terrorism (BTW good for you on pickin’ up the ridiculous “FEAR” motif”.
CNN…Hillary should show a little leg…WTF???? Did I miss something?
—-
Yes, changing the channel.
Keith says Wolfson fired up an e-mail about the last statement saying that Hillary will be the next Pres because of the last remark.
Hey, guys, it was good following along with y’all tonight – haven’t done it for awhile.
And – who said Obama might take Texas? I’m starting to think so – seeing a lot of Obama stickers and buttons lately…
Of course, while San Antonio is no “People’s Republic of Austin”(as some conservative comments like to call it, outdated tho’ it may be), we are an extremely Democratic city. It’ll be interesting to see – younger Hispanics seem to be going more toward Obama, older sticking with Hilary. But that’s totally an impression. March 4 should be very interesting.
“Fitz!” is tradition.
“zed” is revisionism.
TexBetsy,
Best wishes, and I’ll be praying for you!
Bob in HI
betsy, ygm.
thanks fern. things seem much better than a few hours ago
I’m an economist … I’ll certify that for ya! Another Bush mess up!
Dugg it!!
So where is zed if he once was??
It is a function of our media and political class. They repeat a meme until it becomes the reality and then they never go back and check the original sources to see if it is really true anymore. It is a mixture of sloppy, lazy, and deceitful politics and journalism.
gosh, neurophius, I never knew that *g*
(without zed, I hope my CXXVI wasn’t all for naught…..)
Actually I was joking. But don’t feel bad– many people have had my jokes go over their heads. My humor is very subtle, very sophisticated– tastefully understated.
The problem with the framing, wrt The Surge:
A Surge of Misunderstanding
Thought I’d missed something official — feeling better now. *g*
(And as someone who gets nasty e-mails every time I write a campaign-related post accusing me of doing everything but running their preferred candidate out of town on a rail, I have to say it can be tough to know where someone really stands. I get those from supporters of BOTH Clinton and Obama, btw, so I’m clearly sending out some sort of weird vibe for differing parts of the population.)
The other night Keith revealed that he is a long time friend of the Clintons and has been close to them.
I think hes excited about Obama
you sound a like a wine
Kirk,
What about RC Cola and Dr. Pepper? (Don’t want anyone to feel left out doncha know)
I agree, her close was very good…she took a question that was supposed to be about her personal struggles…and turned it about to be about the struggles of others.
Wolfson’s trying to squelch the “valedictory address” comment from Jeff Toobin on CNN.
TBBetsy, good luck tonight!
Look at the surge as an extension of the war boosterism in the run up to the war. It was really nothing more.
It was a way to allow Bush to hit the reset button on the national rage and discontent that lead up to the 2006 electoral slaughter.
It worked very well, but just as the Rummy, Cheney, Bush strategy of pooh-poohing the insurgency this boosterism will eventually be disproven by the facts.
It is happening slowly. US soldier casualties are rising, rifts are shwoing in the Sunni militia coalition, the US is hostage to Al Sadr’s whims, Turkey is ready to bowl into Kurdistan and start a whole new shitpile.
By the time summer gets here, McBush is going to sound like a fucking moron with his ’surge is working’ idiocy. The media will have to buckle under again.
It is all so predictable, like Groundhog Day.
-G
neuro 1, kirk nil.
She sounded conciliatory to me. So soft and warm.
I understand. You and Jane are both very good at keeping your preference under wraps. I have no clue at all. With KO, though…just a sense…
It’s always implied, sometimes more than implied, that Hillary is a bitch. Where did this come from? Don’t get me wrong, I regard that as a compliment. But, I don’t see it. I’ve never seen her be anything but gracious. Certainly, she’s a brilliant, strong, accomplished woman, but…..nevermind, that must be the very definition.
And, obviously, very personal. Very, very, very “in jokes”. ;-)
Damn, I hate leaving mid-thread. It takes an hour to catch-up. The shitty motel I’m at does not carry MSNBC. In fact, it is rare when a motel does. We do have four HBO channels and even ESPN 8 (the ocho!)
sort of like that– vintage 1951
lost forever in the toobz…
Most of the (non-wingnut) media personalities are interested in a good story, so I think they’ve been very happy with both Obama and Clinton.
What they hate is the 1996 Clinton vs. Dole type snoozefests.
Yep. How dare she be all those things and just a mere woman. No matter how enlightened some men are, the majority still like Father Knows Best women. I think no female in the WH for a long time.
He actually said he was friends with the Clintons…he said something like “I need to reveal”
Yep, they suck too. Mountain Dew, too.
(but they’ll all brighten up the chrome on a trailer hitch – must be that phosphoric acid thing)
This goddamn war was lost before it began, is lost now, and will always be so. Stop talking heads, you are killing people with your bullshit.
Why, you young whippersnapper, you! :-)
I remember when “Fitz” was revisionism, and “Frist” was tradition (back from those earlier years at Eschaton….when “Frist” was revisionism and “First!” was the “first” tradition). Sigh. Anybody got a chart showing what “blog years” amount to in meatspace/time?
There are lots of women I’d vote for. Donna Edwards, yes. Mary Landrieu, no.
Hmmm. Missed that. Still, the Clintons have lots and lots of friends. Not all will support her.
About as good a comment on the Iraq war as I have heard.
I think that they may have read it as almost a “concession speech” though. It was almost apologetic for the earlier attacks on his character.
Fascinating from TPM
MrsK8, you remember “First!” on Eschaton? And then the first 10 comments were an argument about how stupid it was to say “First!”?
True.
Were you gone for a while, Hugh? Missed you.
I defer to your greater knowledge. *g*
I never said “Frist!” because he’s a freaking Republican who kills cats and diagnoses by television from thousands of miles away. Besides that,he sucks.
I was never an Eschatonian. For me, tradition began with FDL.
Thanks for the history lesson!
Aah, Twain, to be fair, there’s been as many black gents as women elected to the WH…!
Here’s a cleaning tip for those with hard water:
for some reason, a can of diet coke sitting overnight in the toilet water gets rid of rust and mineral stains in the bowl.
Is there phosphic acid in diet coke, too?
[BTW — I would NEVER drink the stuff, or any soda other than soda water, or seltzer. But it sure makes a swell cleanser.]
Are they going to ask if the closer was Clinton making a play for VP… that is what Tweety would say.
ROFL! Guess you know the answer now…Amazing, isn’t it. They’re so predictable.
Axelrod, Obama’s campaign strategist, is doing pretty well at spinning, I think. Heard him say, “we are not safe” (went to kitchen for a minute). I want to hear more like that.
Zed!
Just kidding.
Obama: “My number one job as president will be to keep the American people safe.” Oh, Lordy this again. No, Barack. It’s not. It’s to defend the Constitution.
I would be comforted if Obama were to point out that the best way to keep the American people safe is to defend the Constitution. Having done that, his assertion would make sense to all of us.
That debate continues, except now it’s about how stupid it is to say zed!
No disrespect toward any FDL commenter attended. *g*
Thanks-Money for death-the sad story of all war.
I’m bringing Fitz back because I’m excited about the Rezko trial that Fitz will be starting this Monday!
Quite true and with good luck and hard work we will get one or the other this time.
I thought they both did very well. Hillary didn’t do enough to change the momentum. Either one should do exceptionally well against John McCain. The impression I got, regarding who is ready to handle issues, is that both are rational, very intelligent people who will listen to advise an choose the best alternative approaches. That will be a great relief from and ego driven moron who relies on his gut and chooses wrong every time.
Thanks, I had things going on in my family.
He is subtle…as would someone who would name themselves after “Parsival’s Formula”!
last night he said that was his number one job as commander in chief
We thought that would help Howard Dean too. He was kicked around like a hacky sack. The only reason it might be easier now since the public has already come around to opposing the war. There isn’t much convincing that needs to be done in a political campaign, just tell the people your position.
Why, of course I do Riesz! My “handle” was slightly different then (changed because of security reasons), but Eschaton was where I cut my blog commenting teeth back in early 2002.
Good times, good times.
At least until the uncontrolled trolls and the interaction with them became more than I could stomach.
The I found the Lake of Fire Dogs, and have been very happy to call this place blog home ever since.
Yeah, I’ve noticed that, but it was a lot more intense in the old days at Eschaton. Some people got really huffy about it!
Why I want HRC to be prez; only (?) three to five centurys of African American injustice–ten milleniae of men being politically un fair to women.
Ah, I see you worked that one out for yourself….
Nearly forty years after consciousness-raising, this is still the basic point of view of too many people.
When Bill Clinton took the Presidency, a thousand careers were launched. He enabled the mighty right-wing wurlitzer with the signing of the Federal Communications Act which consolidated media ownership. Big-mouthed hatespewers had little orbits of lickspittle wannabe’s who were contractually joined at the hip. Fortunes were made and fame was found by nuking Bill Clinton for eight solid years, “and your little dog too.”
This is a wholly owned construct of the right-wing noise machine. The Clinton’s are not left-wing ideologues, which irritates progressives, but they are democrats which is unacceptable to the Oxymorons of the right. I try not to regurgitate themes issued from right-wing talking-point pez dispensers.
Yep. Sad, isn’t it? They’ll only let women get so far, and then whammo. (Not a direct comment on the Clinton v. Obama issue- that’s more complex, as I’m sure you understand very well)
What’s interesting to me is for lack of a statistical term or a political one the sheer rate of change in the polls for the 3 large states. Obama is gaining at a very constant rate in all 3 of them and a lot of Texas polls that I’ve seen tonight have him even there.
I love Sheila Jackson-Lee!
No they weren’t, you ninny!

Q: Shut your festering gob, you tit! Your type really makes me puke, you vacuous, toffee-nosed, malodorous, pervert!
M: Look, I CAME HERE FOR AN ARGUMENT, I’m not going to just stand…!!
Q: OH! oh I’m sorry, but this is abuse.
M: Oh, I see, well, that explains it.
Q: Ah yes, you want room 12A, Just along the corridor.
M: Oh, Thank you very much. Sorry.
Q: Not at all.
M: Thank You.
(Under his breath) Stupid git!!
I think that Obama made no major errors and Hillary had a draw (or perhaps a shaded win). But she really did need to knock it out of the park tonight. She has to win Texas by 60-65% to get the delegates she needs…and it’s very tough in the Texas Primary/Caucus system. Obama likely won over some people leaning for Clinton, and vice versa.
New thread up there^
Maybe Im missing something too, but my understanding is a little different
Hillary: requires you to get health care for you, and your children. for 100% of people.
Barack: requires you to get health care for your children. And helps you if you want it too.
So.. both require you to pay for it yourself. I would assume that both have some sort of assistance for those without the money to do so.

I think that may be my very favoritest Python sketch ever! Thanks for posting the link.
I don’t recall that Howard Dean ran against George Bush…instead I recall that it was a pair of guys that voted FOR the WAR that got booted around as flip-floppers. AND who would only criticize the strategy of the war, not its fundamental framework.
“Bob Kerrey?” Oh dear. Strikes me as something of a loose cannon in the present political atmosphere.

BTW, IIRC Diet Coke also has phosphoric acid.
But with fewer calories, the trailer hitches don’t gain weight.
I wonder how to quantify the impact of any debate on the primaries or the general.

Well, now that you mention it – yes.
But it’s never too late for the bloody Vikings….
She didn’t answer the question.
Her answer was that she was blessed, committed to serving her country, and nothing she has experienced is as difficult as what most soldiers who’ve spent time in Iraq have faced.
It wasn’t the relentless attacks from the RightWingNuts, the failure of her healthcare efforts from Bill’s 1st term, it wasn’t Bill’s impeachment, or Bill’s womanizing, it wasn’t her father’s death. I can see being grateful for your blessings, but that wasn’t the question. She didn’t answer the question. Unless the question is out of line, you don’t get extra points from me if you avoid answering the question. I know politicians do it all the time. Doesn’t mean I have to like it.
Congrats on the Cow’s Tail, maddy!
I didn’t say Dean ran against Bush. I said he didn’t even get that far because the people weren’t against the war back then. The Dem ticket didn’t argue against the ‘flip-flopper’ charge very well. I blame Kerry and still wonder if he wasn’t perfectly happy being a senator and letting Bush be preznit.
Actually, for a senator to vote against the AUMF would’ve been ridiculous. It had caveats which required Bush to get U.N. support. It was perfectly reasonable. It wasn’t a direct vote FOR war!
OTOH, I don’t criticize someone who was outside the senate, like Howard Dean or Barack Obama, for saying we shouldn’t go to war. Actually, you could easily take both positions at once: against the war, but for the AUMF.
Where it all falls apart is when you have Clinton voting for the AUMF (alright), but then continuing to support the war despite it’s obvious failures and the revelation that the evidence for it was fake or nonexistent or when Obama says that if he’d been in the senate he probably would’ve voted for the war despite using it as an argument to pound Clinton (hypocrisy).
Neither Obama nor Clinton show much character or Leadership.
707, a little quick on the draw I was.
MarkH-to me we don’t have exactly stellar choices, and everyone will shoot me for saying that I don’t believe we really vote for president as much as, are manipulated into choices that are acceptable to those who call the shots..the men with the money that you never see, but then what the bleep do I know.
If I lived closer, I would come for you. Hope you will feel better.

Definitely an “eeeewwww” moment. I expect better from you, Barack. Pure pandering. And as Blue Texan points out, it’s the oath you swear when you take office. If you forget it, I say as one of your supporters, I will press for impeachment, same as I do for the Smirking Chimp-in-Chief.
