And the penalties for people who aren’t insured are very clear–thousands of them die from cancers that could have been caught and treated by screening. Colon cancer is the second most deadly cancer in the US and the fourth most frequently diagnosed. It is one of the most ttreatable cancers if caught early. The 5 year survival of people treated early is 90%, but the rate of people diagnosed who can be treated early is 39%.
