Here we go....
In a discussion of recent comments made by Michelle Obama, Bill O'Reilly took a call from a listener who stated that, according to "a friend who had knowledge of her," Obama " 'is a very angry,' her word was 'militant woman.' " O'Reilly later stated: "I don't want to go on a lynching party against Michelle Obama unless there's evidence, hard facts, that say this is how the woman really feels. If that's how she really feels -- that America is a bad country or a flawed nation, whatever -- then that's legit. We'll track it down."
It's not a "slip of the tongue," and it's not that he doesn't realize the use of the term "lynching" is racist and hateful and threatening and eliminationist just because he's an old, out-of-touch white guy. It's how he speaks to the lizard brain racism that still consumes the country in order to inspire a different kind of "unity." Bill-O goes all serious and responsible for context -- "wouldn't want to be presumptuous, must be cautious, wouldn't want to leap to conclusions, we'll track it down first" -- but he gets it in there.
That he throws it in there with sympathy for Bill Clinton really just pins the irony meter.

I don’t want to go on a lynching party against Michelle Obama unless there’s evidence
Meaning, Loofah Bill’O does want to go to a Michelle Obama lynching party, because there’s bound to be evidence . . .
Glenn has a wonderful take on the attacks on Obama and what is to come.
This is another test for Obama. Let’s see how he does.
lynching party? oy!
That seems to be the key point. Bill-O would love to go on a lynching party, however, seeing as he is a responsible adult, he will wait for the evidence first…
We are looking at our new First Lady. In our home, we are pleased.
Geez, Louise! Well if there is “evidence” (i.e. something made up and repeated on Fox News), I guess he’s saying it’s time to get out the rope and the white sheets. This is just so wrong on so many levels.
Evidence of what? Did she burn a flag? Besides, what does it matter? It’s obvious what she meant so these idiots are just trying to make trouble.
The photo on the last thread? Should be used by the DNC on billboards across America starting in August.
Who do you see as being more intelligent? Ms. Obama or Rush?
I’m sure there has got to be another meaning for a “lynching party”, right?
The great thing about the Obama phenomenon is the large youth cohort,
exemplified by the marchers in Texas, that will not take this kind of
thing from Murdoch and his Nazi minions sitting down. If Billo wants
to go out soon, all he has to do is keep talking that racist crap.
BillO? Presumptuous? Now who ever woulda thunk such a thing? /s
Billo is so pathetic. I can’t believe someone that stupid won three Peabody awards.
Oh, wait…
And why does Bill-O want to string up Michelle Obama? Because she implied she hadn’t always been proud of her country — horrors! When Felafel Boy’s God Bush says the terrorists hate our freedoms and that’s why we have to invade a blameless country and kill millions, isn’t freedom of speech one of the ones he’s talking about?
That o’reilly wants facts is laughable.
The breadth and depth of racism in this country is amazing but the depth and breadth of anti-racism is even more amazing to me. I really do believe that the vast numberof people are fed the fuck up with racism and have now a candidate to express their feelings about the issue. I also think that a lot of the youth support of obama is a strong reaction to the hate filled few years that have just passed. I guess what I am saying is that there is a lot of “I don’t want hate any more and here is my way of stating it” voting all of which goes to show that the “average” american is a decent, decent human being though how the hell we have ended up with all these rotters in government is nuts.
Bwahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Republican Party is like a festering boil. And it will be lanced come November.
Now, doesn’t that constitute a threat of murder against the wife of a presidential candidate? Hello, Secret Service! I’d say that Bill-O has crossed the free-speech line there.
Dear Leader:
My main problem with all of this (beyond how ridiculous it is) is how often she is misquoted in the news. More often than not “really” is left off of the “proud”, which, since we’re parsing words here makes a huge difference in meaning.
Kurtz makes this mistake in his WAPO column this morning.
Oh this is so great! Really. Like the sexism brought out by Hillary’s candidacy, the racism that’ll bubble up from an Obama-McCan’t campaign season will be immense. America needs this to happen in order to move beyond it.
I hope we can continue to tighten the screws on the sexism in America at the same time we do that for racism. We’re really at a crossroads I think, where the collective American mindset is willing to admit mistakes and change their ways, for the most part. We can do a lot to help this in the blogosphere.
Barbara Ehrenreich covered this really well recently:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/.....86677.html
Maybe we should put it on a billboard outside McCain campaign headquarters.
I’m not so sure that speaking out your ass qualifies under the first amendment
Fox News’ brilliant Bill Lynchmob O’Reilly doesn’t know the difference between a loofah and felafel. Unless, he really did desire to rub his female employee’s body in the shower with fried chick pea balls AND a loofah.
This is only the beginning of the horseshit that the goopers will throw at Obama. They figure he’s going to win and they want to make sure that he fails- a one term wonder.
Bill-O: Strange low-hanging Fruit.
There was a discussion last night about the “really” and whether SHE left it out in one speech or whether it was edited out. Don’t know how it turned out.
Jane -
My response to you was EPU’d. Downstairs at #126.
I know you are serious.
I like the way you brought that up without repeating the victim’s name. I wasn’t her fault, after all.
But Obama doesn’t want it lanced, he wants “post-partisanship”.
I’m so afraid that is a repainted version of the “bipartisanship” the democrats have given us during Chimpy’s reign…
there’s a post linked through The Huffington Post February 18th that highlights Michelle Obama in a most dispicable way. Its linked to a story that appeared on Newsday.com (”The voice of Long Island, NY, and America’s 6th-largest regional newspaper (8th overall), includes special reports, local sports, classifieds, yellow pages, …”)
It quotes Michelle Obama’s speech in Milwaukee on the 18th of February thus:
Michelle: What does this mean? (Updated)
Here’s a quote from Michelle Obama, via the Globe and Politico, that seems to have trouble written all over it:
“For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country,” she told a Milwaukee crowd today, “because it feels like hope is making a comeback.”
A lot of Republicans, and Democrats, and Independents will be surprised to learn that pre-Obama, there was no reason to be proud of America. Probably she didn’t mean that. But what did she mean?
It means that somebody edited out the word really and completely misrepresented her remark. There are all kinds of accusations flying around from the Clinton camp about plagairizng other peoples words…what do you call it when somebody intentionally changes somebodys words?
This is followed by:
Update: Here’s a longer, and slightly different, version of the quote:
“What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback. And let me tell you something — for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. And I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction and just not feeling so alone in my frustration and disappointment. I’ve seen people who are hungry to be unified around some basic common issues, and it’s made me proud.”
This story appeared on Drudge yesterday about 3pm, it obviously took Matt Drudge about 2 minutes to notice that somebody had “edited” the word “really” from her remark and to his credit, he immediately removed the link.
Cheers to Drudge. I love the Huffington Post and read it many times a day but I see continuing to link to this kind of crap as an on-going major screw up on their part.
Now I can get back to my Obama buzz…this is diamond ed for kfmlnooze…
Brilliant!
Ugli fruit?
OT: Put aside some of dislike of Dallas Cowboys. Emmet Smith making a very strong introduction of Barack Obama. In short, not only did he overcome odds to become running back, he was put here for this moment, “to help him get on his way back to Washington so that we can have a new President, Barack Obama.”
It’s also to provoke a reaction and paint Obama to whites another black candidate with grievances (as if there weren’t grievances).
As for the general, less vicious attacks on “Michelle”, bring ‘em on. Those are easy to hit out of the park — the Obamas understand that marriage is about sticking together and weathering every storm, blah blah. After all, his admirable opponent McCain and his second, dope-addict wife understand this..
I agree, but I’m afraid your warning will largely fall on deaf ears here. BTW, if anyone offers you any kool aid, just say no thanks. It’s strong stuff.
Not a “mistake”.
In the video clip I saw, she said “really proud.”
O’Reilly is the most transparent concern troll, EVA
Yes please!
Well… I can say I understand your position. Which Democrat do you think is best equipped, my friend, to lead us out of the wilderness? And why? ;0)
I think if you’re worried about what the Noize Machine is gonna do to the Obamas, you’re not understanding what’s happening right now.
The old shit ain’t working anymore. People are tired of it. The more they try this stuff, the more people flock to Obama, and those doing the old tricks become more marginalized. Hillary is finding this out the hard way.
Please Jabba The Ailes, Lush, Ruturd and friends, keep it up! In fact, ratchet up the charges and give ‘em everything thing ya got. Triple dog dare ya!
It could be the end of the Noize Machine I’m thinking.
It’s not going to work for them this time. He’s not a Jimmy Carter. He’s seen what the thugs can do if you give them a chance. If he gets in, the first thing his people will do when stuff like O’Reilly’s crap comes down will be to have a quiet talk with Rupert’s people, and explain to them how the new regime works. The thugs created a new game of hardball, and it works in both directions. A shot across that bow will be enough to bring the rest of the media into line. As to NPR, better to fire the lot of them and start over from scratch.
ah, the dogs of war, all is fair in war (not really in love, who wrote that?…they are clueless about love)
this is the only way they can keep their seat to power, they must unleash the bogots, the bigotry, the hatred
the dogs of war
we must be at the ready with attack in kind, when they attack we must attack back, their very premise must be embarrassed for even being raised
we have the high road, and we must attack their depravity, their claims, their seat in power
we must beware the dogs of war
To the video tape: http://www.dailykos.com/commen.....3/3494/127
Do you think President and Mrs. Obama will have billo to the white house and serve him some mother effin’ ice tea to go with his humble pie?
And who do you like? And why?
Obama did not mention that someone had edited a word out of his wive’s statement when responding to charges about it. This suggests that perhaps Michelle left the word out at least once.
Thom Hartmann is talking about the edited quote now. On Air America.
Gosh, I wonder who will be KO’s ‘Worst Person in the World’ tonight?
I realize the pantomime partisanship of Lanny David and James Carville and Paul Begala have been very soothing these years, but you two should try to be less afraid.
Bill-o” strange fruit, a metaphor for lynching (as you absolutely know, but other’s might not.
billo says “we’ll track it down first”???? but he didn’t, did he? troll.
And the problem the GOP has now is that the attack machine has been loaded for the past eight years with their bad stuff. Get ready for payback. Nothing they could throw at Obama will come close to the onslaught of Bush/Cheney crap raining down on their heads come November.
What did Obama say?
And, fwiw, imho, it was a very poorly worded statement. She could have said “I’ve never been more proud” or 100 different things. To phrase it the way she did was not too smart.
He should be taken off the air. The man is offensive beyond belief. Take Hannity, Ingraham, Rush and a few others. These people are not conservative, they are rude and offensive and not worthy of the positions they hold.
I like that Bonkers..a lot
It’s obviously way out of anyone’s hands now.
So perhaps we should all rally around Blue America candidates and make sure we fill up Congress with Better and Better Dems. Imagine a Senate with the 60 vote majority. Harry and Nancy will have no excuses anymore to sell out America and to give away the Constitution.
They can also keep the pressure on President Obama to not get to Lieberman-esque, which personally I don’t think Obama will just on his own.
I think what’s really going on here is that the GOP and pretty much everyone on the right is used to using racist “code” to appeal to their base. It’s always worked in the past. It isn’t working now, and they can’t figure out why. The logical reason–blatant appeals to racism are no longer very effective in this country–doesn’t even occur to them. So they’ve concluded that their racist code is simply too vague to be understood. Their solution–Let’s be more overtly racist!–is the obvious response to this “problem”.
I’m not so sure about that, though one never knows. The MSM buried Edwards, who has the same rhetorical skills as Obama, because he was ‘too populist’. Obama avoids that fate by being ‘bipartisan’. This is part of his appeal to independents and some Republicans, but I think the greater part is the sense of authority he exudes. These are people who need a father figure for president, and despite his youth he gives off that aura. His rhetoric sends a good signal to the Left, which is why most of us who supported Edwards have gone over to him. I believe that part of his message. Could be wrong, but I think people are going to be surprised if he gets in with a massive majority and a huge Democratic delegation. At that point, the MSM threat is neutralized, and he can move left without fear. It’s good strategy. If he wins big on his own, he won’t be able to be bought.
I don’t feel I have to vote for whichever candidate the Dems can cough up for me. I would love to vote for Obama if he doesn’t pee all over us liberals again, the way he did when he praised Benedict Ronald Reagan. I’ll give him one more chance, but if he doesn’t act like a Democrat then I won’t feel obligated to vote for him just because he’s the lesser of two evils.
That was supposed to be “Davis”. I must have had Larry David in the back of my mind. He supports Obama, by the way.
Well said, I agree completely. More Blue America candidates will send a strong message to the “Rats”.
A lot of people were right here, loudly mocking her for it.
As someone who loathed Reagan, if you listen to what Obama was actually saying it did not constitute “peeing” on Democrats.
So what he needs to do, in your estimation, is figure out a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, and engage in pointless ideological infighting to the detriment of a common goal?
Your forgetting something else important. He’s black. He has to lay it on thick with the unity talk.
That sounds really good, Knut. I hope you’re right. I will be very happy in 2009 if I have to come here and admit I was wrong about Obama.
where were you when Bill was so knocked over by his visit to Sylvia’s? “no one was shouting hey where’s my mother f*cking ice tea?” that racist enough for ya?
I’m sure you can do the research here on FDL to see how people responded to Hillary’s speech in the south…
Bill-o” strange fruit, a metaphor for lynching (as you absolutely know, but other’s might not.
Billie v. Bill-O…no contest
Your race card is a bit of an over-reach, Jane.
Must every criticism of the Obamas ALWAYS be a sign of sinister racism?
Blech.
So you will, if in your view, Senator Obama fails you, will vote for a Republican, stay home on election day, or do a write in perhaps? Or something else? And if your choice is to do somwething else; what would that ’something else’ be?
when both clips were still up at kos, they had the same time stamp on them and she was wearing the same clothes, one had really in, one had really edited out.
Ya that’s it Frank, all us republicans are a bunch of racists.
Question for all of you….when was the last time you actually helped a black person in need? How often have you passed by them on the side of the road without a second glance.
You all remind me of those living in Berkley, CA. Sure like to talk a lot how caring and feeling everyone is (except republicans), but when it comes to buying some unfortunate sole a cup of coffee, or a meal…walk right by him without acknowledgment. Funny thing is, those same people look down at me when I actually take the time to talk/buy the person a meal.
Most of you need to look in your own souls before you start pointing fingers.
I understand what Obama was saying about Raygun, but I do think Obama was wrong in saying that Clinton didn’t have the same effect of being able to market a “brand.”
Bill Clinton was able to make Democrats think they only way they could get anything done was to sell-out their ideals to BigMoney. Clinton gave rise to the DLC way of thinking, which isn’t a Liberal approach at all…to any issue! Yet, Democrats to this day defend the Clinton Admin. Weird really how well Clinton was able to snowjob much of the Liberal electorate.
Bill’O’s statement is full of KKK racists code words….. including the “tracking it down” ….. Romney’s “who let the dogs out” foopaw was bad enough…
Did he not praise how he did, not what he did.
?
Do you buy them a loofah?
Must…not…feed…
Another round of MF ice tea. Billo’s treat!
“militant”. where have i heard that before? oh right, last night on “hardball” after tweety played that clip and asked his panel “so, too militant?”.
today’s word of the day from right wing central.
Ah, you know us each so well; see into our very souls. I don’t think we’ve actually met, but I can see you don’t form stereotypes. LOL.
Aw, come on, moderators! My comment was “Shorter Kurt:…” with the title of a well-known Sly and the Family Stone song with the two nouns inverted…
You all remind me of those living in Berkley, CA.
ummmm. no. speak for yourself. some of us Berkeley residents are involved in mentoring public schools, contribute to scholarship funds so lower income kids aren’t excluded from fee based school trips, volunteer occasionally in food banks, etc.
do I buy the Street Sheet from every guy on every corner? no.
your sentiment has an element of truth but you paint with too broad a brush.
I disagree with your assessment of Bill Clinton as President.
You are, of course, entitled to your opinion as to the the job he did as President.
But, I don’t appreciate your suggesting that the vast majority of Demcrats,
who disagree with you, were recipients of a ’snowjob’.
That’s the only way you can paint with schmaltz.
Michelle Obama accomplishments and abilities vs. Cindy McCain–not a pretty picture.
Congrats to Clinton for discovering her new best friend–not realizing that Stephanie Tubbs Jones was an equally dim bulb and that when Clintn’s legislative accomplishments are pulled up they read like a train wreck unless your George Bush and then you love ‘em.
Clinton Acknowledging her new heart throb Tweety Mathews and her own dim bulb Stephanie Tubbs Jones
Let’s see–can I remember it–there must be a notepad somewhere around here:
Solutions to problems
So lu tions to pro blems
That is so brilliant. Makes me want to run out and give my life’s savings to the Clinton campaign. Boy we need her. Solutions to Problems–of course she is!
Indeed. And expect that this meme’s making the email underground rounds today too. There are way too many lizard and shallow brains all too eager to believe that Billo’s their hero spreading truth.
Push ‘em back, push ‘em back, harder…. whatever the medium they choose.
The more times O’Reilly gets air time and says anything about the Obamas–if he as much as emits a mini-burp–those are votes in the bank for Obama.
How ’bout “She’s Inevitable!”
Brilliant.
O’Reilly and others, like Tony Snow when he was doing talk radio before his White House gig, have been a lot more extreme and slimy about what they say and what they try to incite in their listeners than when they’re on teevee.
I do not think NAFTA, the Telecommunications Act which was practically written by Ruturd Murdoch, Clinton’s Welfare “Reform,” Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and many more were good for America or Liberal policies at all. In fact quite the opposite. Yet, many Democrats say he was a good President because of the supposed Peace and Prosperity of the 1990s. Don’t have time to get into the deatils of that, but youa re right, I disagree with that assessment very strongly. Boils down to short versus long term results.
Whatever word you want to put on it, Clinton did do a great job of selling these ideas to Democrats and getting them to “buy-in,” just as Raygun did.
Eeeeuuuuwwww, I shudder even as I suggest this, but it may be time to turn the strong light of scrutiny on what these guys are sayin’ in local radio markets.
I know. Invest in brain bleach.
Moderators: Thank You Falettinme Be Myself!
Oh, yes I suppose Jane might have read Bill wrong. Lynching? What in the world does that word have to do with racism?
Snark…Off
When will the MSM be held accountable for promoting the rightwing bullshit. Drudge or his minions can edit out comments to then use it against Obama. Drudge and the MSM are scum.
That worked out real well for you. The only way you can think of black people is as “person in need”? Or you’re doing a black person favor for just given them “a second glance” while passing by them “on the side of the road”? WTF?
mod - thanks for correcting my spelling error (mentoring)
Well, polls pre-primary showed him winning Wisconsin by between five and seven points, and he won it by seventeen, so he’s probably handling it as well as he needs to. :-)
I just hope the Obama campaign doesn’t fall for the hissy kabuki.
A simple test:
If, in early 2000, Cindy McCain had said “For the first time in eight years I feel hope”, does ANYONE here think that the GOP/Media Complex would have had a hissy kabuki fit?
nope.
Bill O’Reilly is a racist - plain and simple. It’s time to call this thug out on each and every angry ugly thought that spews out of his mouth. There will be no swiftboating nor lame responses this time around.
Fox is propaganda. O’Reilly is a Brownshirt thug posing as a patriot (as is the way with Brownshirts) and you know how much Obama scares the hell out of them…so we should expect the worst, and plan to take on any and all persons in our immediate communities who try to ape this monkey of a man.
But that isn’t a true comparison. The true comparison would be: If, in early 2000, Cindy McCain had said “For the first time in eight years I feel hope”, does ANYONE here think that Democrats would have had a hissy kabuki fit?
I am neither a Hillary nor Obama person. I was an Edwards girl until he dropped out.
But this really fries my oysters. She has little children. Chances of them finding out about this comment? Heigher than you would believe. Kids have way of quietly slipping into another room to find the thing on TV the grownups don’t want them to see. Add to that schoolyard gossip….
can you imagine the mental picture those kids will have in their mind’s eye? WHat a hurtful thing to say.
quoting American slang
“oh no he dinnnt”
this is going to backfire and become worse than the original blown-out-of-all-proportion statement.
KO will be on it like Rush on Oxy.
SENTENCE FIRST, trial later.
Do these guys even know what lynching is…historically and in legal terms?
Of course, Bill-do will be allowed to say, I misspoke. Michelle Obama…not.
Ahh the future Sister soldiering of Michelle Obama begins.. Lynching?Something that should never come out of this irishman’s mouth.
BiLLO is reaching despicable levels of desperation that even I never knew he could gravel to.. BTW BILLO i went to a black restaurant with the family last night here in the ATL. I even used a knife and a fork.
Whenever the right-wing wants to skewer someone who disagrees with a conservative administration’s policies, they use the frame that the person “hates America.”
Even if a person actually uses that particular turn of phrase,i.e., they “hate when America does this or that,” nobody in politics uses it to mean that they LITERALLY HATE AMERICA. They mean they hate the policies of a particular administration.
And the right wing knows that.
It’s all in the frames.
Didn’t someone get suspended for using that language? Is he deliberately suggesting such a thing is even an option? Literally, no; but the very language floats the possibility. His choice of words is abhorent.
I try not to burden my little head with nuances. Once they came out with solutions_to_problems I knew we had a cultural phenomenon on our hands.
*g* Is that the best that Mandy Gruenwald can come up with?
It sounds like Gruenwald trying to teach her 2 year old to talk.

Said in the truest Obama cult voice.
The Machine isn’t so easily overcome. Wake up!
But but but, you don’t understand. Haven’t you had your Cool-Aid yet today? Just bask in the glow and everything will be alright.
Besides, he wasn’t peeing on your leg he was just sucking up to some other people. That it felt like he was pissing on you is probably just an hallucination. Drink the Cool-Aid and that feeling will go away.
Obama is a uniter, not a divider!
LMAO.
No, it’s a sign of BENEVOLENT
white supremacyracism.
